Scelzi Kicks Off Return to Chili Bowl With Preliminary Action Tuesday

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (Jan. 13, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi is returning to the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals this week with confidence.

Scelzi is back with Cole Wood Racing a year after making his debut at the premier midget event inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla. His preliminary night is Tuesday with the finale on Saturday.

“I’ve always felt good in the times I’ve run a midget,” he said. “I feel confident in the car and the way they feel and the similarities to a nonwing micro sprint. I think the laps I had two weeks ago in the Tulsa Shootout will help.”

Scelzi nearly won the nonwing outlaw main event at the Tulsa Shootout a week and a half ago on the same quarter-mile oval inside the River Spirit Expo Center. He returned to the track on Monday for a few practice laps.

“There’s a lot of things we’ve had to switch on the car,” he said. “I think I’ve had eight laps in it so far. I think it’s just a matter of everything feeling good for me and being right with the car.”

Scelzi said he doesn’t have more than 100 total laps in a midget during his career. Therefore, his goal is to simply pass cars.

“The first goal is to pass cars and move forward every time we hit the race track,” he said. “Something that is realistic is to make the prelim main event and run in the top 10 to put myself in a good shot to make the main event on Saturday.”
