DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 88 AXALTA CHEVROLET SS – Involved in multi-car accident on Lap 60
IT LOOKS LIKE YOU TOOK A BIG HIT. ARE YOU OKAY?
“Yeah, it wasn’t too bad, actually. I knew I was going to hit the wall. The No. 34 (Chris Buescher) just drove into the left front quarter panel. Oh, man. I don’t know; them restarts and all that. You’ve got a responsibility to try and take care of everybody out there even when you’re three-wide. I’m disappointed in that. But, we had a pretty good car and we were just kind of taking our time, there. And the car was great. So, it’s a shame.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Michigan–Race Notes

Red Horse Racing at Texas Motor Speedway

Red Horse Racing at Texas Motor Speedway

This week, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams made their way to the Lone Star State for the Rattlesnake 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. On Thursday, three practices were scheduled, but due to a travel delay for industry officials, only two practices were completed. Timothy Peters recorded the second fastest time in the first practice and was 17th in the second practice. Germán Quiroga, stepping back into a Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra for the first time since 2014, posted the 13th and 14th fastest times. On Friday afternoon, teams returned to the Fort Worth, Texas facility for two rounds of single-truck knockout qualifying. Both Red Horse Racing Tundras transferred into the final round with Quiroga securing the second starting position in his return to the NCWTS while Peters took the green flag in eighth. During the 400 kilometer event, both teams remained in the top-10 for the majority of the race with Peters finishing sixth and Quiroga finishing eighth.

Timothy Peters Earns Sixth-Place Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

Timothy Peters piloted the No. 17 Toyota Tundra to a sixth-place finish, his fifth top-ten in seven races, at Texas Motor Speedway in the Rattlesnake 400. On Thursday, in two practice sessions, Peters posted the second and 17th fastest times. On Friday afternoon, on a hot, slick track, Peters transferred into the second and final round of single-truck knockout qualifying to earn the eighth starting spot. The Danville, Virginia driver quickly began to move toward the front of the field, reaching the top-five by the time the first caution flag flew on lap 12. Peters stayed out under this caution, and soon reported a free handling condition in his red and white Toyota Tundra. Crew chief Shane Huffman brought him to pit road for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment during a caution on lap 52. Peters restarted in the fifth position and remained in the top-five until the caution flew again on lap 97. He returned to pit road for four fresh tires and fuel, and a quick stop by the No. 17 team put him in the second position on the restart. Under the final caution on lap 121, Huffman again called Peters to pit road for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. After restarting in the fourth position, Peters reported that some sheet metal damage and this set of tires caused the handling of his Tundra to tighten up, and he fell back to the sixth position, where he would take the checkered flag.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“It was just an awesome night with our Red Horse Racing Tundra. Shane (Huffman, crew chief) and all the guys did an awesome job. That last run, we got really tight. We feel like a win is right around the corner. It’s frustrating more than anything to run as good as we did and have a top-three or maybe even a winning truck and finish sixth with it is disappointing.”

Germán Quiroga Earns Top-10 Finish in Return to Truck Series

Germán Quiroga earned a top-10 finish in the black and red No. 11 Toyota Tundra at Texas Motor Speedway after returning to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the first time since the season finale in 2014. The No. 11 team unloaded on Thursday for two practice sessions and Quiroga posted the 13th and 14th fastest times. On Friday, teams returned to the scorching hot Fort Worth, Texas facility for single-truck knockout qualifying. After transferring to the second and final round, Quiroga rocketed to the top of the board and would take the green flag from the front row in second position. On the start, the Mexico City, Mexico native fell back to the eighth position, and soon reported that he was experiencing a tight handling condition in the middle and exit of the corner in his Toyota Tundra. Crew chief Scott Zipadelli encouraged Quiroga to move around the track to find speed, and Quiroga began to climb the leaderboard. Under a yellow flag on lap 52, Zipadelli called Quiroga to pit road for four tires and fuel. By the halfway point in the race, the No. 11 Tundra was in the sixth position and Quiroga reported that he was loose on exit. Under caution on lap 97, The No. 11 team gave Quiroga four fresh Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel and he left pit road in the fourth position. Quiroga reported that the handling in his Tundra had gotten free, which was due to some damage to the rear bumper, and returned to pit road for a final four tire stop under caution on lap 121. He restarted in the seventh position and recorded a solid eighth-place finish, his 18th career top-10.

Start – 2
Finish – 8
Driver Points Position – 30
Owner Points Position – 10
Laps Led – 0

Germán Quiroga Quote:
“Thanks to all the fans and to Tom DeLoach and Red Horse Racing. It was great to get a top ten after not being in a race car for a year and a half. It was a good experience, I’m very happy and happy to be back. Hopefully we can make more races this year. And thanks to all the guys back at the shop and the guys here who worked really hard to put this truck in the top-10.”

Paul Menard Battles for the Win in the Menards 250 Presented by Valvoline at Michigan International Speedway

“We were so close. We had a fast Richmond/Menards Chevrolet today. The handling was just a little bit off which made the car too loose in the opening laps. Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the guys made good changes on pit road. We adjusted a little too far so had to dial it back after the car got too tight. We were right there all day and overall I was happy with our Chevy. It’s always fun to race with this team and I’m looking forward to my next race with them in Indy.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Menards 250

Sharman Racing at Baja

On June 4th the ARP sponsored class one race team of Ryan and Paul Sharman captured a seventh place finish in the Baja 500 starting in Ensenada Mexico. Sharman racing, a father and son team out of Arizona, survived record temperatures, an overheating engine and multiple flats in the Baja desert to hold off 11 out of 18 other cars. During pre-running the course the week before the temperatures increased every day until peaking on race day at 120° in the inner deserts of the peninsula. The Sharmans adapted their race strategy to deal with the intense heat which included slowing the pace across the lake beds and extra pitstops with lots of ice water in the cockpit. Early on they moved from 13th to 7th place and held on to finish back in Ensenada and just under 13 hours.IMG_7780
