WHAT IS THE SECRET TO NAVIGATING THIS TRACK?
“Well, the first thing is you’ve got to have a fast car and that starts with the fabrication department, the engine shop; the crew chief has got to be sharp knowing every little part of the car that can influence the speed of the car. You’ve got to just have everything in a row there. The car needs to be as good as it possibly can be. That really makes the driver’s job a lot easier when the car is a dominant car. I’ve had plenty of dominant race cars down here. And when you’re out on the race track and you have such a good car, you gain more and more confidence as the weekend goes and your confidence really starts to create more opportunities. When you’re confident about your car, you’re trying more passes and trying to do more things. If you don’t feel confident in your car, you might second-guess a decision or not do something. Every little move you make out there sort of puts you in position to win. I don’t think it’s just one thing that you do at the end of the race. It think it’s from the very beginning of the race and what you’re doing lap after lap is going to determine where you are at the end of the race and what position you’re in and how confident you are about your situation. It just keeps going throughout the weekend. The car really kicks it off. If you get in there and you’re car is not where it needs to be or doing the things that you want it to do, it’s very hard to have the confidence in it to put it where it needs to go.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Beach–Dale Earnhardt Jr.

2017 Camaro Announced for NASCAR XFINITY Series

2017 Camaro Announced for NASCAR XFINITY Series
Sixth-generation Camaro bodywork debuts next February at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – As the Camaro marks the 50th anniversary of its introduction this year, Chevrolet announced today the sixth-generation Camaro SS will serve as the model for Chevrolet race cars in the NASCAR XFINITY Series ™, starting next season.

The updated Camaro race car was shown today at Daytona International Speedway ahead of tomorrow’s Subway Firecracker 250 Presented by Coca-Cola. The official racing debut comes next February at the 2017 season’s NASCAR XFINITY Series kickoff race at Daytona.

“For the past 50 years, Camaro has played a key role in Chevrolet’s racing success in winning races and championships,” said Mark Kent, director, Chevrolet Racing. “We look forward to further success with the new Camaro SS in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.”

Computational fluid dynamics analysis, as well as traditional full- and reduced-scale wind-tunnel development, was used to refine the shapes of the unique upper nose and hood of the new 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series Camaro SS.

The fifth-generation Camaro was introduced into the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2013.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series showcases some of the world’s most talented drivers and the stars of tomorrow – all creating defining moments that help make their name and ignite legacies. Chevrolet drivers have captured five NASCAR XFINITY Series checkered flags so far in 2016, bringing Chevrolet’s tally to 408 victories in the modern era since 1982 – and contributing to the most manufacturer titles in NASCAR history.

“Racing improves the breed and helps us design better cars for the showroom,” said Kent. “That’s why Chevrolet is on the track week after week, year after year.”

ARP Racer– John Barilka–ACE Speedway

Friday night we earned the feature win at ACE Speedway with an outstanding performance by the entire team. As Randy Dorton used to say the car unloaded fast (took me awhile to figure out he was not talking about unloading the trailer). In first practice the car was slightly tight in the center and a tick loose off. Jason made a few small adjustments that turned a good car into a great car that I was able to set fast time with. With another adjustment and a great starting spot we were able to jump out to a commanding lead and put a straight away on second place. Mark did a great job as usual spotting keeping me clear of the lap cars and caution flag. If feels great to get to this point, it has not been easy at times but with all your help, support, and friendship it is worth the effort.

We also pulled double duty running Saturday night at Orange County speedway where we qualified 4 and finished 4th. It was not that boring, some knuckle head drove across the right front before we even took the green about spinning us out. So we had to work our tails off to get that 4th with a bent right front wheel. Orange County is a very high banked fast joint where you run the top groove. I really like it a lot but don’t have a bunch of laps there and am still competitive, I see us doing well there in the future as well.

And as if I did not have enough excitement this weekend I stopped and helped some drag racer who had two trailer flats at one time and gave him my spare.
I have been in that same spot and someone helped me so tonight I got my chance to pay it forward.

I want to send out a special thanks to ARP fasteners for help with some quality parts for the engine build in process. Sam Benson and the staff at ARP make first class fasteners for Hendrick Motorsports engines so you know they are more than good enough for garage builds like mine06 24 16_0220

Lakeside Speedway Added to 2016 World of Outlaws Schedule
Lakeside joins rescheduled Salina Highbanks weekend in October

CONCORD, N.C. – June 29, 2016 – The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series has added Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas to help close out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 21.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts Rumble on the River is a special addition to the 2016 season as it joins the previously rescheduled event at Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway the following day on Saturday, Oct. 22. Those two events are the last ones on the schedule before the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals, Oct. 27 to 29.

Lakeside is a longtime staple on the World of Outlaws schedule with 17 appearances dating back to 1980. This season’s event will be the seventh straight for the track on the series schedule.

“The World of Outlaws looks forward returning to Lakeside Speedway this season,” said World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Director Carlton Reimers. “With a long history at the track, this is a great way to help close out the 2016 season.”

Last season, Donny Schatz powered his way through the field to score his 18th win in a record-setting season that saw him score his seventh World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series championship.

It’s always a fun challenge.”

Scelzi Closes All Star Ohio Speedweek with Top-10 Finish at Eldora

Scelzi Closes All Star Ohio Speedweek with Top-10 Finish at Eldora

Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (June 27, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi capped his inaugural Ohio Speedweek with a top-10 finish during his debut at the famed Eldora Speedway last Saturday.

“To go to Eldora and get a top 10, I was really happy with that and to end Speedweek with a good finish like that was great,” he said.

The Speedweek, which had eight Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions races in nine days throughout Ohio, was a learning experience for Scelzi.

“It was the toughest week of racing in my entire life, but it was so much fun to see so many tracks and race with some of the best guys in the country,” he said. “They have some of the stoutest competition in the country. It was great to learn and get an idea of what’s it like racing back in Ohio. The tracks are completely different than in California. They are very dry, dusty and definitely a new challenge that takes getting used to compared to the heavy style of tracks in California.”

Scelzi had several bright moments throughout the difficult week. His first came a week ago Monday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, where Scelzi opened the night by qualifying 24th quickest overall and fastest in his group.

“We went quick time in group four,” he said. “That was huge for us. The track was so similar to (Thunderbowl Raceway in) Tulare in every aspect. I felt really, really comfortable. We went fourth to second in the heat race and I felt like we had something in the main event.

“We were up to seventh at one point in the main event. I was running in eighth and went down into turn three and hit a hole. It lifted the car up and spun me around. It was a bummer because we were so fast to run in the top 10. Luckily it didn’t tear anything up. We were able to restart and get around a few cars.”

Scelzi rebounded from the spin, which forced him to restart at the back of the field, to post a 13th-place finish.

The other Speedweek main event he advanced into came during the finale last Saturday at Eldora Speedway, where Scelzi timed in 22nd quickest and seventh in his group. He then powered from seventh to fourth place in a heat race to lock into the 15th starting position for the main event.

“It was unlike anything else I’d been to,” he said. “I felt a comfort right away in hot laps. It was one of those places that was so fast and so banked, but it had similarities to Knoxville Raceway and I-80 Speedway if they were mixed together. That was huge with me feeling comfortable quickly.

“We were able to get to eighth in the first six or seven laps of the feature. I got to racing with Kraig (Kinser) and it burned my left rear tire off so we weren’t able to move forward any further.”

Scelzi ended with a ninth-place result, which marked his ninth top 10 of the season.

Here is a video of the main event: https://youtu.be/DvtsOAuvdZ0.

He is scheduled to return to National Sprint League competition this Friday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where he scored a seventh-place finish during his debut earlier this month.
