WEST MEMPHIS, AR (October 15, 2024) – Arkansas is set to host the newest premier 360 Sprint Car event this weekend for the American Sprint Car Series National Tour – the World Short Track Challenge.

The first National Tour race at Riverside International Speedway in three years will be a co-sanctioned event alongside the ASCS Hurricane Area Super Sprints and the United Sprint Car Series, with the three tours combining to bring more than 60 cars to “The Ditch” this weekend.

The event wraps up with a 40-lap Feature on Saturday night paying $10,000-to-win and $1,000 to start. Friday’s preliminary action will conclude with a $2,000-to-win/$200-to-start main event.

Here are the top storylines entering the weekend:

HANK HEATING UP: Whenever Hank Davis has been asked to reflect on his first season in the TwoC Racing machine, his answer has remained constant all year.

“I didn’t know we would be this good.”

Regardless of what his goals were entering the year, Davis has been a nightly win contender ever since he got in the car – but especially over the past six weeks.

His win on Saturday night at Paducah International Raceway was the latest chapter in a seven-race stretch that includes three wins, five podiums and no finishes worse than fourth. Davis’ 2.2 average finish dating back to his weekend sweep at Electric City Speedway is the best of anyone over that span, including championship leaders Seth Bergman and Sam Hafertepe Jr.

The Sand Springs, OK native will be making his first trek to West Memphis this weekend, although the challenge of taking on a track for the first time didn’t seem to faze him at Electric City or Paducah. Riverside’s tight confines and high banking should suit Davis nicely given his Midget background as he goes for the first five-digit payday of his Sprint Car career.

PILING ON THE PODIUMS: Good luck finding anyone happier about an eight-race winless streak than Seth Bergman.

Although he hasn’t won since Aug. 23 at Big Sky Speedway, his six podiums since then have given him a 136-point lead over Hafertepe in the standings. While he would have loved to convert a few of those seconds and thirds into wins, the ultimate goal all along has been earning his first National Tour championship, and the 20-year Sprint Car veteran is closer than ever to doing exactly that.

The gap will go unchanged this weekend with the World Short Track Challenge paying show-up points only, meaning Bergman can put the title fight aside and focus solely on gunning for the $10,000 prize on Saturday night.

His Riverside resume includes two National Tour wins in 2012 and 2015, making him one of six drivers to win more than one Series event at the track and the only current full-timer on that list.

TIME FOR A RESET: After a dream summer that included nine wins over the span of 13 races, Hafertepe hasn’t quite been the same in the cooler weather.

His last nine races on tour have included no trips to Victory Lane and three finishes outside the top 10, including a late-race flat tire at Clay County Fair Speedway and a crash at Benton Speedway, causing his gap to Bergman to be nearly 100 points larger than it was when he left Montana 40 points back.

Hope is not lost though, as the final stretch of the season might as well have been tailor-made for Hafertepe. The next full points race takes place at his home track of RPM Speedway before the season concludes at Tulsa Speedway and Creek County Speedway in November. Hafertepe was victorious at Tulsa in June in his first time competing at the track, while he has won three times at Creek County in 2024 alone, including with the National Tour during Speedweek.

While a win this weekend wouldn’t help their points situation, it could be critical to building momentum in the No. 15H camp entering their final bid for a sixth Series championship.

STAR-STUDDED FIELD: With the season winding down, 360 Sprint Car teams from across the nation are planning to travel to West Memphis for one more big event before putting their cars away for the winter. The list of expected entries includes all the regulars from the National Tour, Hurricane Area Super Sprints and the USCS along with dozens of invaders looking to steal the spotlight.

Of course, there’s no bigger name on the list that three-time World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car champion Sammy Swindell, who hails from nearby Germantown, TN. The 68-year-old is still a contender in the limited Sprint Car starts he makes each year, as his 2024 season has included a local win at Riverside on Aug. 24 as well as a USCS triumph one week later at Buckshot Speedway.

A familiar face in a new place to keep an eye on is Jordon Mallett, who will become the first driver to compete for three different teams with the National Tour this season. Mallett spent eight races driving the Brandon Anderson Motorsports No. 55B in a stint highlighted by a win at Batesville Motor Speedway before fielding his own No. 14 car at Arrowhead Speedway in September, and he has since jumped into the No. 3 for Rains Motorsports.

His debut with the team came last weekend in USCS action at Riverside with finishes of second and ninth in the twin-Feature program. The night was swept by Derek Hagar, who has now won five times at “The Ditch” in 2024 and enters the weekend hungry for more.

The American Sprint Car Series National Tour will head to Texas for the only time in 2024 for a doubleheader at RPM Speedway outside Dallas on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26, marking the final stop before November’s championship weekend in Oklahoma.

• Tom Blomqvist, Colin Braun, Nick Yelloly and Renger van der Zande tabbed for full-season IMSA duties with Acura MSR
• Acura MSR looking to build on its 3 IMSA championships, 12 wins, 26 podiums, and 12 pole positions with Acura and HRC US

Returning to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with an expanded Honda Racing Corporation USA (“HRC US”) partnership and competition program, Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/ Curb Agajanian (“Acura MSR”) has finalized its full-season driver pairings for a two-car Acura GTP attack in 2025.

After bookending the 2023 IMSA season with wins at the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Motul Petit Le Mans, as well as taking an overall victory at CTMP with Acura in 2023, Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun will return to drive Acura MSR’s No. 60 Acura ARX-06.

New to the Acura MSR stable are Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly, who will pair up in the No. 93 Acura ARX-06 entry. Van der Zande is coming off of a competitive IMSA season, with an overall win on the streets of Long Beach and most recently Petit Le Mans this past weekend. He also has three podium finishes at Sebring, Detroit and Watkins Glen.

Yelloly has competed in IMSA for the last four seasons and collected a win at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in 2023 as well as five podium finishes in IMSA’s top category.

The 2025 IMSA season will see Acura MSR partner with HRC US to field two entries in the GTP category. Acura MSR first partnered with HRC—then known as Honda Performance Development—in 2017 as the factory team to a run a pair of Acura NSX GT3s. The team scored the first-ever victory for the Acura NSX in Detroit.

Running the Acura NSX platform in IMSA competition for four seasons, MSR amassed seven poles, seven victories and 16 podium finishes. Acura MSR won the 2019 IMSA team and driver championships and followed that up with a second championship win in 2020—also giving Acura the manufacturer championship honors that year.

The 2021 and 2022 seasons saw Acura MSR move up to the top DPi category. Three poles, two wins and eight podiums later, and the team raced to a third IMSA championship title in 2022.

Acura MSR embarked on a new era of competition with HRC US in 2023 with the debut of the Acura LMDh hybrid—the ARX-06. The team stood on the top step of the podium three times, including a third MSR Rolex 24 Hour overall win as well as wins at CTMP and Motul Petit Le Mans.

Acura MSR will make its first official outing at Daytona International Speedway for the IMSA-sanctioned test in November.

From watching in the paddock, the cars have been very competitive, so I am looking forward to see what that is like. MSR is naturally a great racing team. I was able to see how competitive they were when I competed against them in 2023. And it’s awesome to see them taking big leaps and strides on the INDYCAR side as well.

Clearly the team is very hungry and willing to push flat out, which sits well with me as I have the same type of mentality. My teammates I’ve known for quite a while. I’ve raced with Renger and Tom for many years, so I think that will be quite seamless. Colin, I’ve raced wheel to wheel against a few times last year, and he’s a great racing driver. For second generation Pro Stock driver Mason McGaha the chance to race for seven straight days was a chance of a lifetime. As Harrison Burton and the No. 21 DEX Imaging team head to Talladega Superspeedway for Sunday’s YellaWood 500 they’re hoping to duplicate their success in the most recent race at Talladega’s sister track, Daytona International Speedway.

In the Aug. 24 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, Burton surged ahead at the finish and delivered the Wood Brothers their 100th Cup victory and his first in NASCAR’s elite division.

Crew chief Jeremy Bullins was upbeat heading into that Daytona race and feels similarly about the upcoming 500-miler on the high-speed, high-banked, 2.66-mile track.

“The superspeedways have been a strength for us all year, and obviously winning at Daytona gives us a ton of confidence knowing that our race cars are good enough to go win another one,” Bullins said. “Just like Daytona, we have our DEX Mustang ready to go compete, and there’s no reason we can’t go get win number 101 for the Wood Brothers this weekend.”

Per NASCAR’s rules for Daytona, Talladega and Atlanta, there will be no pre-race practice. Qualifying at Talladega is set for Saturday at 12:35 p.m. Central Time (1:35 p.m. Eastern Time.)

Sunday’s 188-lap race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 1 p.m. (2 p.m. Eastern) with TV coverage on NBC.

Stage breaks are planned for Laps 60 and 120.
 

Xtreme Outlaw Series championship to be decided at demanding 1/4-mile bullring Oct. 4–5

CONCORD, NC (Oct. 2, 2024) — Banked, curbed and fast. Jacksonville Speedway hosts the 2024 season finale for the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota this Friday–Saturday, Oct. 4–5, and will offer drivers one of the biggest challenges of the season.

Located approximately two hours north of St. Louis, the black dirt, banked 1/4-mile oval located inside the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Jacksonville, IL, has been a host of Midget racing every year since 2005 and has hosted the Xtreme Outlaw Series in each of its first two seasons. This weekend, its hosts one final Midget special for the year with a 25-lap, $4,000-to-win main event on Friday and a 30-lap, $5,000-to-win program to close the season on Saturday.

Home-state racers Chase McDermand and Karter Sarff — last year’s Xtreme winner at Jacksonville — will race points leader Cannon McIntosh and the rest of the field on both nights of the event. Each offered their sentiments on competing at the venue and the excitement surrounding championship weekend.

Generally speaking, what are your thoughts on racing at Jacksonville?

McDermand: I really like Jacksonville. We seem to have good speed there. I’m super familiar with the track; I’ve grown up going there from when my dad raced Stock Cars there to various Midget races growing up, and then racing there with the D2 and Badger stuff even before Xtreme came along.

McIntosh: I feel like all year, it’s been kind of breaking down those barriers of tracks that I’ve either not been great at or not enjoyed racing at. We’ve went out and kind of changed the narrative for me this year. I’ve won at tracks that I’ve struggled at in the past this year, and actually enjoyed a lot of the tracks that I didn’t enjoy racing at before.

I feel like I’ve lacked a bit of comfort when it comes to running there. It’s probably a little bit of [a mental thing], but I’d say a lot of it is just really understanding the way the track works. I’ve raced there quite a bit, but I feel like I’ve just never got a full understanding of it and what I need to do when I go there.

Sarff: I always look forward to racing at Jacksonville. It’s close to home, not too far of a drive to get there. It’s a little bullring, a lot of action. I have a lot of laps around there, so we’re usually pretty good there. I always look forward to going back to Jacksonville.

Do you like racing at the tiny bullrings like Jacksonville?

McDermand: I do. Jacksonville at least has a little room to move around and race compared to some of the other places we go to. I feel like the big tracks kind of suited me for a couple races this year, but I’ve had good runs on the small tracks too. It helps having some familiarity with the venue that we’re going to, and just having a good notebook is always important to success.

Sarff: Yeah, it seems to be the places we usually stand out, with the big ol’ cushion. But I don’t know, this year we’ve been pretty good on the big tracks as well. I think just getting our whole package put together has been a big thing for us. I’ve always been a short track racer and like the cowboy-up, big-cushion tracks, and that’s usually what Jacksonville is. It suits me pretty well.

What makes Jacksonville stand out from all the other 1/4-mile “bullring” type tracks that Midgets so commonly race on today?

McDermand: For the classification of a 1/4-mile, I feel like it’s pretty small. Seems like we go to a vast majority of 1/4-miles, and they all seem to be a little bit different in length. It’s a tight 1/4-mile and it’s got a lot of banking, which I feel like races well. It seems like it always builds a nice cushion up on the wall, which helps with the sliders and that type of racing. The track’s usually pretty good when we go there in terms of being pretty slick. That bodes well for our type of racing, and it seems like we’re always putting on good shows when we go there.

McIntosh: I’d say one of the things that makes it stand out is how hard you have to run it. It’s usually up around the fence, and you’ve gotta be pretty much running 99 percent the whole time to keep a good pace.

Sarff: I feel like it’s one of the fastest 1/4-mile bullrings that we go to. It usually puts on some good races no matter what; I feel like we’ve never really had a boring race there. It’s close to home too, so that stands out to me. Not too far of a drive to get there and a short drive home as well. We’ve always ran well there. It’s the place I ran my first 305 Sprint Car race at, so I have a lot of special laps I’ve made there.

What is something that only a driver would know about racing at Jacksonville, something a fan can’t understand by just watching?

McDermand: As a driver, something that always sticks out to me about Jacksonville is the frontstretch. When you’re racing on the frontstretch — that’s where you pull on and off the racetrack, so there’s no wall or anything there — so you have to be careful of the huge berm going into Turn 1 and off of Turn 4. That’s something that’s definitely bitten a lot of people.

McIntosh: The top is trickier than it seems. Being able to trust your car. I feel like it definitely tests the balance of your car, especially early in the night — it’s a lot more rough than it may look. Each corner you get into, there’s always a little bit of a hump that the car goes over, and it unloads the car. It definitely tests the balance and whether or not you can trust your car throughout the night.

Sarff: It’s just fast. It’s one of those places where, as a driver, you go up to watch a Heat Race that you’re not in and it’s just kinda wild to see how fast they’re going.

What are your expectations for the atmosphere and the racing in the final weekend of the season?

McDermand: Me and Ashton (Torgerson) that are kind of tight [in points], maybe a little bit harder racing there compared to the rest. You might get a couple of those throughout the top 10 maybe that are close, but nothing changes for me, really. You still have to go out there. My philosophy is if you win, you do everything that you can to get the points anyway. We always show up to win, so nothing really changes from my perspective.

McIntosh: I feel like it’ll be pretty normal. Obviously, people know what’s on the line, but at the same time, I’d like to think that a few of us have enough respect to race each other the way we have all year and not try to overdo it. There’s a lot of guys that aren’t in contention anymore and can make up some places, but I’d say that everyone is gonna be smart about it and respectful.

Sarff: I think some drivers may be a little on the cautious side, but then again, they gotta be running up front, doing all they can and taking advantage of every spot they can get. For drivers that are racing for the championship, I think their mindset shouldn’t change much because they still need to try and win to try and seal up a championship. But for me, how it’s been all year long — we just want to win races.

All three NASCAR national series will be back in action this weekend as the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series face arguably one of the most unpredictable tracks in playoff competition: Talladega Superspeedway. For NASCAR’s top two divisions, this weekend will be their second appearance at the 2.66-mile Alabama venue this season, with Saturday’s United Rentals 250 and Sunday’s YellaWood 500 marking the second race of the Round of 12 for both series. For the Truck Series, Friday’s Love’s RV Stop 225 will be its sole visit to the superspeedway this season, with the event opening the Round of 8 and delivering the first of three opportunities to claim an automatic berth into the Championship 4.

Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series at Talladega: Talladega Superspeedway is yet another track where Chevrolet paces its competitors in NASCAR Cup Series victories, with the manufacturer heading to the 2.66-mile Alabama venue with 44 all-time wins. Chevrolet’s first trip to victory lane at Talladega Superspeedway came with Darrell Waltrip behind the wheel of the No. 88 DiGard Racing Chevrolet in May 1977. The Bowtie brand later went on a historic run that saw the manufacturer reel-off 17 wins in 18 races – starting with Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s victory in the famed No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in April 1999. That run included a streak of 13-straight victories (April 1999 to May 2005) – a series record that still stands today.  Upon the start of the Next Gen era, Chevrolet found success right out of the gate – making three consecutive trips to victory lane at the Alabama superspeedway. Three drivers from three different Chevrolet organizations have earned wins in the Next Gen Camaro ZL1 including Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain (April 2022), Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott (Oct. 2022) and, most recently, Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch (April 2023).

NASCAR CUP SERIES ROUND OF 12: PART TWO

After a series-best 52-point day in the Round of 12 opener at Kansas Speedway, William Byron and the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team found themselves at the top of the playoff standings with a 34-point advantage over the cutline. While having a sizable points cushion heading into the weekend, the 26-year-old North Carolina native has an added boost of confidence with three top-10 finishes on drafting-style tracks this season, including his victory in the 66th running of the Daytona 500. When it comes to Talladega Superspeedway, Byron has tallied finishes no worse than 15th in the Next Gen era, including a pair of seventh place finishes and a runner-up finish in the series’ last three events at the track.  Heading into the second race of the round, Byron is joined by his other three Hendrick Motorsports teammates in the top-eight positions of the standings. Despite yet another challenging race to open the second round, Kyle Larson and the No. 5 Chevrolet team still holds a double-digit points cushion (+18 points) over the elimination line. Alex Bowman and the No. 48 Chevrolet team made the biggest move up the standings once again, going from below the cutline to the sixth position with an eight-point advantage. The 31-year-old Arizona native has three top-five finishes on drafting-style tracks this year, including a runner-up finish at Daytona, as well as a pair of fifth-place results that came at Talladega Superspeedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway. With an engine issue forcing the No. 9 Chevrolet to start at the rear of the field at Kansas Speedway, Chase Elliott and the Alan Gustafson-led team salvaged a top-10 result and a 30-point day to maintain a position above the playoff cutline. The former series champion heads to a track where he has found victory lane twice in NASCAR’s top division, one of which came in the Next Gen era (Oct. 2022).

Suarez Looking to Capitalize on Rising Superspeedway Strength: While Daniel Suarez and the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet team might be on the outside looking in, this season’s playoff competition proves how quickly things can change. When it comes to drafting-style tracks, the 32-year-old Monterrey, Mexico, native has a pair of podium finishes in five races this season – one of which included a trip to victory lane (Atlanta Motor Speedway – Feb. 2024). At Talladega Superspeedway, the Chevrolet driver has earned three top-10 results in five Next Gen races at the venue, including a career-best eighth-place finish in the 2022 fall race.

NASCAR XFINITY SERIES ROUND OF 12: PART TWO

With a playoff spoiler victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Round of 12 opener at Kansas Speedway, all eight tickets into the next round remain up for grabs as the series heads to Talladega Superspeedway this weekend. Four drivers from three different Chevrolet organizations currently occupy positions above the playoff cutline, with Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill leading the charge in the third position (+26 points). JR Motorsports’ Sam Mayer departed the Midwest as the second-highest mover up the playoff standings, sitting in the fourth position with a double-digit advantage over the cutline (+13 points). Joining Hill and Mayer in the top-eight of the playoff standings includes series rookie, Shane van Gisbergen, and the No. 97 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet team in the sixth position (+8 points), as well as the series’ most recent Talladega Superspeedway winner, Jesse Love, in the seventh position (+3 points).

RCR Teammates Shining on Superspeedways: The pair of Richard Childress Racing teammates, Austin Hill and Jesse Love, can easily be viewed as natural favorites to earn the first automatic berth into the NASCAR Xfinity Series Round of 8. The Chevrolet organization has made its way to victory lane in four of the series’ five drafting-style races this season, including all three of Hill’s 2024 victories (Daytona International Speedway; Atlanta Motor Speedway sweep). Richard Childress Racing also returns to Talladega Superspeedway as the series’ most recent winner courtesy of Love’s victory earlier this season. In the rookies’ five starts on drafting-style tracks this season, Love has qualified no worse than fifth in each event, including three pole wins. In addition to his victory earlier this season, Love also earned a sixth-place finish in the series’ most recent drafting-style race (Atlanta Motor Speedway).

Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Talladega: Since the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ debut at Talladega Superspeedway in 1992, Chevrolet has earned a monstrous winning percentage of 67 percent with 24 all-time victories. The Bowtie brand’s winning ways at the 2.66-mile Alabama venue began when the manufacturer took the victories in the series’ first-three visits to the track, including the inaugural event that was won by Ernie Irvan (July 1992). Chevrolet currently holds an active, and record-setting, streak of 10 consecutive Talladega triumphs in the series – recorded by eight different drivers between April 2018 and April 2024. Among that list of winners includes two of Chevrolet’s current playoff contenders, with Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger claiming the victory in Oct. 2022, and Richard Childress Racing’s Jesse Love earning his first-career victory earlier this season (April 2024).

FIVE TEAM CHEVY DRIVERS CONTINUE IN NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES TITLE HUNT

The checkered flag at Kansas Speedway last weekend officially dwindled the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ playoff field down to just eight remaining title contenders. Among those left in championship contention includes five drivers representing four different Chevrolet organizations. With the playoff standings restacked for the final three-race stretch to the championship-deciding race, McAnally-Hilgemann Racing’s Christian Eckes continues to lead the Bowtie brigade – settling into the second position with a 29-point cushion to the elimination line. Joining Eckes in the Round of 8 includes Rev Racing’s Nick Sanchez (fourth; +8 points); Spire Motorsports’ Rajah Caruth (fifth; -8 points); Eckes’ teammate Tyler Ankrum (sixth; -11 points); and CR7 Motorsports’ Grant Enfinger (seventh; -11 points).

A win in the series’ next trio of races also comes with a ticket into the Championship 4, with the first opportunity coming at Talladega Superspeedway. The series has only contested on two drafting-style tracks in 2024, which came back-to-back at Daytona International Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway to open the season. Only three of the series’ remaining playoff contenders were able to bring home top-10 results in both drafting-style events, including Chevrolet’s Nick Sanchez and Rajah Caruth. Sanchez became a first-time Truck Series winner at the “World Center of Racing”, going on to follow up that career moment by driving his No. 2 Silverado RST to a fifth-place result at Atlanta Motor Speedway one week later. Caruth also came out of the gate with a pair of top-10 results, including a podium finish at the 2.5-mile Florida superspeedway. Looking at the greater picture, Eckes continues to prove to be a leading contender for the championship title. The 23-year-old Middletown, New York, native has tallied top-10 results in 18 of the series’ 19 races this season. Among those finishes includes a series-leading 13 top-fives, three of which were victories. Driving his No. 19 Silverado RST to a third-place result at Kansas Speedway last weekend, the Chevrolet driver enters the Round of 8 with eight consecutive finishes of no worse than fourth, with that streak including one victory and seven podium finishes.

Chevrolet in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Talladega: The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has a much shorter history at Talladega Superspeedway, with Friday’s event marking the series’ 19th appearance at the track. Chevrolet ranks second among its manufacturer competitors with six Truck Series victories at the 2.66-mile Alabama venue. Six different drivers have tallied a Talladega triumph behind the wheel of a Chevrolet-powered machine, including current playoff contender Grant Enfinger – recorded in Oct. 2016 with GMS Racing. With that victory, the 39-year-old Fairhope, Alabama, native holds the advantage as the series’ only current playoff contender that has found victory lane at the track.

I’ve played the conservative game a lot of times and it never works for me. I think we have to go into this weekend to get all we can get. We aren’t in the Playoffs, so might as well. At the same time, I know how fast this truck was at the start of the year, so I really don’t want to tear it up. If you can make it to the last lap, you’ll have a good shot at getting a good finish. I’ve never raced on the Talladega Short Track before, but it’s different than what I’m used to. There’s red clay, and they’ve added a wall there, so things have changed. Do you feel it is a great opportunity to lock into the Championship 4, or a place you can fall way behind?“I believe Talladega is an amazing opportunity. Some go into drafting tracks and try to avoid the crash or anticipate when the wreck is going to happen. If you have that hesitant and nervous mentality, it is all over before you get off the plane. I think it is a great opportunity to qualify well and grab some valuable stage points. We will see how it shakes out at the end. Talladega is an awesome race track. I enjoy pack racing and hopefully it goes our way this time.” If you win this weekend, what would your next two races look like for your team?“I wouldn’t be thinking about any racetrack except Phoenix Raceway (laughs). Realistically, we do the same things we’ve been doing. As a whole, I’d be more excited to have the opportunity to race for a championship. I think the main goal coming into the year was for to be competing for the championship in Phoenix. It doesn’t matter how you get there. If it’s in our stars and in the plans of the man upstairs to win Talladega, then Homestead and Martinsville will be even more enjoyable.” CHASE PURDY, NO. 77 BAMA BUGGIES SILVERADO RSTYou’ve led laps and had multiple great performances at Talladega. How do you plan to seal the deal and get your first career win?“To win the race you have to survive the chaos and be there at the end. I’ve always believed the best way to avoid the mess is to be ahead of it. That is what we plan to do on Friday. Keep it up front and be there at the end to make a move.” Talladega is your home track. What would it mean to get your first-career win there?“I grew up a few hours west in Meridian, Mississippi and my mom’s side of the family is a couple hours away in Tuscaloosa. I grew up coming to this track as a kid. Hopefully we can put on a good performance in my home state.”

CONCORD, NC (October 2, 2024) – At the dawn of the 2024 season, more than half a dozen drivers were signed up to run the full American Sprint Car Series National Tour for the first time.

The quantity and quality of first-timers meant that the Rookie of the Year battle was shaping up to be equally as intriguing as the championship fight. But with six months and 24 races in the rearview mirror, the freshman standings are topped by someone who wasn’t even on the list of contenders until the end of May: Hank Davis.

After TwoC Racing and Seth Bergman parted ways two races into the season, Davis was tabbed as the new driver of the No. 2C for the remainder of the year. He didn’t take long to find his footing, finishing on the podium at Dodge City Raceway Park on June 1 to cap off his first weekend with the team.

That run was the second of nine top fives through Davis’s first 10 races behind the wheel of the Todd Carlile-owned, Wayne Johnson-tuned car. The Sand Springs, OK native’s expectations were high entering the next chapter of his Sprint Car career – but not quite that high.

“I didn’t know we would be this good,” Davis said. “I didn’t know if [Rookie of the Year] would be attainable really, but once we started rolling, I thought it would be attainable. We just had to do our job and be there at the end every night.”

After a summer filled with strong runs and close encounters with Victory Lane, Davis finally broke through on Labor Day weekend at Electric City Speedway with not one, but two victories. The wins weren’t just the first and second of his career with the National Tour, they also vaulted him into the lead of the Rookie of the Year race.

However, that isn’t the only points battle Davis has to think about, as TwoC Racing sits 34 points behind the Hill’s Racing Team No. 15H of Sam Hafertepe Jr. in the owners championship standings with 10 races to go in the season. Going for two separate titles while learning the ropes of full-time Sprint Car racing might seem like a lot to balance, but Davis’s solution is simple – don’t think about any of it.

“I really try not to think about any of the titles honestly,” Davis said. “I would love to get [the owner’s championship], just because that would help Wayne out, it’s on his side. We’re just out here to try and win as many races as possible, and wherever we end up is where we end up.”

Up until Electric City, the Rookie of the Year chase had been commanded by Caney, KS’s Andrew Deal. Racing a full season with a national Sprint Car series had always been a dream of his, and that dream came true in 2024.

“I was just going to have fun,” Deal said of his goals entering the season. “I mean, I wanted to do good, I thought we could do good. I thought [the Rookie of the Year Award] was a possibility.”

The best way to have fun racing Sprint Cars is to finish towards the front, and Deal did that on a regular basis early in the season. A runner-up finish in the season opener at Super Bee Speedway kicked off a string of seven top 10s through the first eight races, placing the No. 15D team at the top of the Rookie leaderboard and firmly on the list of nightly contenders with the Series.

It’s been an up-and-down season in the months since, as top-five runs at Lincoln County Raceway and Clay County Fair Speedway have gone along with a handful of finishes in the bottom half of the field. Deal admitted that he’s still in the learning phase of racing with the National Tour but said the box score doesn’t tell the full story of what he’s capable of.

“These guys, they drive so hard. They’re on it the whole time and they’re willing to wreck,” Deal said. “There’s a lot of times where I do lift. I’m not quite willing to just chance everything and tear my stuff up and get hurt. The right conditions, there’s no doubt in my mind we can win.

“I’m just not going to go 150% like some of these guys out here. It’s out of my pocket, I’ve got some good sponsors, but at the end of the day I’m paying for it.”

The level of competition on the National Tour isn’t the only thing Deal has had to adjust to this season, as many of the tracks on the schedule have been brand new for him. Getting up to speed at new facilities is a major hurdle for anyone taking on a new series for the first time, particularly for drivers like Deal who did little traveling prior to taking on the National Tour.

“Try to watch some videos, just try to study up on how the race goes and where I need to be at,” Deal said. “The hardest part is Qualifying. Kind of sets your night up, so you get basically three to five laps to see the track and then you’ve got to qualify on it. Wayne [Priddy, Deal’s brother-in-law and longtime Sprint Car crew chief] helps me a lot, he’s raced at a lot of these tracks. I’ll visit with him about tendencies of the track, of the dirt, try to get an idea of what to do. But once we get there, I’m pretty much just flying blind.”

Two places where Deal won’t be flying blind are the final two tracks on the schedule – Tulsa Speedway and Creek County Speedway – where he has plenty of laps in both winged and Non-Wing competition. If Deal can chip away at Davis’s 134-point lead in the six-race October slate, he could be in position to retake the lead during championship weekend in November and put an exclamation point on what he said has already been a rewarding year.

“In my mind, this has been nothing but a success,” Deal said. “There’s some nights where we should have been better and we weren’t, and there were some nights where we were pretty good and we probably shouldn’t have been any good at all. I would call it a success.”

The next chapter in the Rookie of the Year duel will be written next weekend at Benton Speedway (Friday, Oct. 11) and Paducah International Raceway (Saturday, Oct. 12). Tickets will be available at the track on race day, but if you can’t make it, watch every lap live on DIRTVision.

NARC NEWSLINE – OCTOBER 1, 2024, By Jim Allen … Imagine if the NFL played their first 12 games of the season and then took off two months before another game was played? Or just when the baseball pennant races heated up in July, the MLB didn’t play another game until October? Well, welcome to the NARC 410 Sprint Car season! The last time we played in the dirt was July 27th at Santa Maria Speedway, a race won by Chase Johnson and the top three in the NARC championship standings somehow managed to crash out or break in three separate incidents. Unpredictable as a WWE match.At that point on the calendar, 18 races were in the books and the excitement and momentum was at a fevered pitch. We had a tight points chase, 12 different winners, four rookie drivers in the top 15, and open wheel competition that has been off the charts. In fact, we still have those things, we just had to fast forward 70-days for the High Limit and World of Outlaws shows to come through.Along those lines, California continues to be a powerhouse and hotbed of creating top national sprint car talent. Of the 15 combined High Limit and Outlaw shows on the West Coast, eight were claimed by California drivers (Michael Kofoid – 3, Carson Macedo – 2, Rico Abreu – 2, Corey Day – 1). Fresno car owner Dennis Roth scored five wins between the two series with Kofoid and Aussie James McFadden.Honorable west coast mention goes to Trey Starks, who scored not one, but two HL feature victories (Grays Harbor & Skagit) helping to prove my point that he is one of the most underrated drivers in the country. Justin Sanders, Shane Golobic, Cole Macedo, and DJ Netto fared the best among the NARC locals with 17 top five finishes combined. Sanders and Golobic both scored a pair of runner-up finishes. Tim Kaeding even nailed down an impressive runner-up finish at Merced Speedway.CHASE JOHNSON:  While all that was going on, we have been talking and thinking and praying about Chase Johnson a lot lately. Who would have thought his scenario was even possible? Chase’s crash at the High Limit Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway didn’t appear to be any worse than others we have witnessed, but the physical damage was painful to read. Chase broke his back in several spots which required a nine-hour surgery. Throw in additional setbacks like a rough bout of pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and a finicky feeding tube and you have a life-changing scenario.The 28-year-old driver, who always possesses a positive outlook and a million-dollar smile, is a fighter and one of the toughest guys we know. After five long weeks in the ICU at UC Davis in Sacramento, Chase had stabilized enough to be airlifted to the Shepard Center in Georgia. It is a highly-renown facility that specializes in spinal cord rehabilitation injuries. We will continue to monitor social media posts from wife Haley Johnson and the Johnson family during this process.On another note: The good news is Chase has medical insurance. The bad news is he has medical insurance. They say that the best insurance to have .., is insurance you never have to use because it seldom pays or covers the enormity of the expenses or allows coverage into premium world-class rehabilitation facilities. However, due to the amazing outpouring of support by fans, friends, and family of Chase, the Shepard Center became a reality and the best option for recovery. It’s a super expensive ordeal and he will be there for at least 11 weeks.Please keep those positive vibes, thoughts, and prayers coming for the entire Johnson family, but also continue with the helmet passes, track barbecues, and t-shirt and decal sales. United StatesIn hindsight, it’s been a rough year on the NARC driver’s roster. It closely resembles a weekly NFL injury report. Let’s not forget that Ryan Robinson was forced to retire after his violent crash during the Mini Gold Cup back in March. In the good news department, Angelique Bell is almost fully recovered from her fiery June 12th crash at Southern Oregon Speedway. The burns have healed, but she still needs an occasional steroid shot in her vocal cords to get her voice back to 100%. She has managed to keep her sense of humor and upbeat attitude throughout the process. By the way, and this is a big “BY THE WAY,” Angelique will be making her second season debut at Hanford on October 5th in a new family-owned race car. We plan to work in an opening ceremony interview with her.Then there was two-time NARC champion Dominic Scelzi, who was hearing church bells ringing in his head after his Super Dirt Cup crash at Skagit. Not to mention rib injuries of the type you would normally get in a fight with a Mike Tyson or Jake Paul. That took almost two months to recover from, but he is back to consuming tacos at his usual pace and frequency, so he is back to normal. Justyn Cox, who is currently third in NARC driver points, is expected to be out for the rest of the season in the Bates-Hamilton 42X with a back injury. He was hurt at a High Limit race, this one at the Douglas County Dirtrack in August. He is trying to nurse a broken and compressed T3 vertebra back into shape. Unfortunately, he will drop completely out of the top ten in points during the healing process. It’s been one of those years.CALISTOGA SPEEDWAY: Yes, it’s hard to believe, but movement is finally being seen, or at least scheduled, at the Napa County Fairgrounds. There is a Fairgrounds Community Clean Up Day scheduled for October 19th. Unfortunately, that is Trophy Cup weekend so racer participation may be limited. The good news is that there is a buzz at the fairgrounds with the hiring ofShelly Wright as the Fair Revitalization Director. She is a former fair manager at Lakeport and is a fan of motorsports, which is a huge plus for reopening the historic ½ mile oval. Tommy Hunt is excited at the possibilities and feels that the Louie Vermeil Classic should become a reality in 2025.NARC NOTES: Here is a strange fact for you. The October 5th race at Hanford will be the first visit by the NARC sprint cars this season. The first two shows, the Dave Helm Memorial and Peter Murphy Classic rained out. … Although we are not expecting to see Willie Croft at any of our final five NARC events, he will be at the Trophy Cup. Give the 53-year-old driver a proper send off for an entertaining and successful racing career. … Among the drivers who still are looking for a NARC 410 win in ‘24 include Bud Kaeding, Caeden Steele, Gauge Garcia, Dylan Bloomfield, Nick Parker, Kaleb Montgomery, and Tanner Carrick. … Kalib Henry, who has been enjoying sprint car success racing in the Midwest, will be competing at the next two NARC shows …The numerical stat lines of Justin Sanders and Cole Macedo are almost identical with 80% of the season complete. The only real difference is Sanders has five wins to Macedo’s three. There is a three-point premium for winning (42-39), compared to second place. Sanders leads this horse race by only three-points. Stay tuned! … Speaking of identical, Sanders andMacedo both have seven heat race victories this season to lead all NARC drivers. The hot shoe with the most pockets $500 from Kimo’s Tropical Car Wash at the year-end banquet. … The NARC top wing wickerbill rule was changed to match the High Limit and WoO rules. …… Gauge Garcia is attempting to zero in on the Williams Roofing season-long Hardcharger title, which pays $1,000 at the banquet.  To date, Garcia has advanced 66 cars in the Keller Motorsports sprint car, to lead Nick Parker (57) and Cole Macedo (53). There is no prize for second place. … Special thanks to Ashley Smith, Katie Smith-Williams, Roth Motorsports, EMADCO, Southern Pacific Farms, and Hoosier for their financial support of this Saturday’s Morrie Williams Memorial. … Each 20-lap feature pays $3,000 to win and $300 to start., plus a $1,000 bonus to the overall champion. The venue is the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, located about 10-minutes from the track. Brookside has hosted the event five-times and is a first-class facility. In addition to the four victories, Schatz has also bagged four runner-ups and a trio of thirds, giving him 13 podiums in 25 attempts. His average finish in the event is a stout 5.96.Schatz’s strength at Williams Grove doesn’t stop with the “Natty O.” The half mile is home to 21 of his 315 career Series triumphs, which is more than any other track on his list and ranks behind only Steve Kinser’s massive tally of 38.This weekend supplies Schatz the chance to extend his record with a seventh National Open win in the Tony Stewart/Curb Agajanian Racing No. 15.GRAVEL’S GROUND: With a hometown of Watertown, CT, David Gravel may not quite come from a PA Posse background, but Williams Grove Speedway is a special place for him.It’s where he first raced a Sprint Car. He’s won once in 2024, topping a Port Royal Speedway race on April 20.POSSE PRIDE: There’s no event on the calendar that the Pennsylvania Posse want more than the National Open. It’s the ultimate stage to represent the home state, make the fans proud, and compete for major cash. As always, the Pennsylvania contingent boasts a stout set of locals ready to square off with the World of Outlaws.Anthony Macri stands out as a prime candidate to make the Posse proud. He’s tied as the nation’s winningest Sprint Car driver this year with 15 wins under his belt including four at Williams Grove. The Dillsburg, PA driver has never beaten the World of Outlaws at “The Grove,” but he’s been knocking on the door with 10 top fives.Fayetteville, PA’s Lance Dewease may have the best résumé in the history of Williams Grove Speedway. His record 115 total victories outrank the second most by 25. Seventeen of those wins have come against the World of Outlaws including five National Open championships. During the show Prock talks about his early days racing sprint cars for now NHRA superstar Tony Stewart as well as how his career as a chef has benefitted him behind the wheel of the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car. The Prock episode was shot in the Turn 11 event center during the Sonoma Nationals at the end of July. Prock and Hull exchanged several stories on how they have approached their respective rookie seasons behind the wheel of a nitro Funny Car coming over from racing Top Fuel dragsters. The duo also touched on the almost serene atmosphere of the cockpit moments before they hit the starting line stripe.
 
“We have done a number of episodes of the show and every one is a little different,” said Hull. “I love that we are giving guys the chance to tell stories and highlight what is so cool about racing Funny Cars. Austin was a great guest and I think people will enjoy hearing what he has to say about his first year driving a nitro Funny Car.
 
Future episodes will include sit downs with Matt Hagan and J.R. Todd. Each episode will be a free-for-all of conversation with the one constant being the Funny Car Fast Five segment, a rapid-fire Q&A getting thoughts and opinions from each guest in quick succession.

ENNIS, TX (October 1, 2024) — The official start of the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the historic Texas Motorplex will rev up on October 10, with an epic line up of NHRA drivers and riders for the Pre-Stage Fan Fest in downtown Waxahachie, Texas, including current and former world champions in all four Mission Foods Drag Racing Series categories as well as nearly two dozen Texas Fall Nationals professional winners. Over 50 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series drivers and riders including fan favorites Justin Ashley, Ron Capps, Antron Brown, Texans Steve Torrence and Erica Enders, Matt and Angie Smith are scheduled to sign autographs at this free event held for the fourth consecutive year at Railyard Park just south of the historic Waxahachie town square. The JEGS All-Star participants will once again join the festivities allowing fans to meet and greet some of the best sportsman racers from across the country.

 
“Every year the Pre-Stage Fan Fest gets bigger and bigger,” said Christie Meyer Johnson, Texas Motorplex co-owner. “We love having so many drivers spend time with the fans before the race starts. Last year we added the JEGS All-star participants and now we have one of the largest autograph sessions in all motorsports. This year we have added Andy Ross to take the main stage and rock out for all the fans in attendance.”

 
Reigning 2023 Texas Fall Nationals champions Matt Hagan, Erica Enders and Gaige Herrera will be in attendance as well as local drivers Buddy Hull and Kebin Kinsley. Austin, Texas, residents Alexis DeJoria and 8-time world champion Tony Schumacher along with Temple, Texas’ Terry Haddock will represent the Lone Star State. Some of the biggest names in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle will join the Texas contingent including 2024 NHRA championship contenders Tony Stewart, Austin Prock, Dallas Glenn, Aaron Stanfield, J.R. Todd, Shawn Langdon, Ronn Capps, and Josh Hart will be on-site from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. signing at this free event which begins with food trucks, live music and activities for the whole family from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

But Friday’s trip to Wayne County is especially meaningful for the 31-year-old.Haudenschild’s hometown of Wooster, OH is only 15 minutes down the road from the Orrville, OH oval. He loves the track, and the fans love him. Haudenschild’s sights will be firmly on victory Friday. He rolls into the weekend as the most recent Series winner at Wayne County, claiming the 2020 visit. The driver of the Stenhouse Jr.-Marshall Racing/NOS Energy Drink also has several more victories at his home track including five with the All-Star Circuit of Champions.Haudenschild is also no slouch at Sharon. Both are chasing their first title.Gravel finished ninth at the 2020 World of Outlaws trip to Wayne County. Back in 2012 he picked up an All-Star podium. Over at Sharon, Gravel grabbed his first win at the Hartford, OH, dirt track earlier this year after two straight runner-up finishes. Macedo has been consistent in eight Wayne County races with no finish worse than eighth. The highlight of that experience is an All-Star runner-up in 2018. Sharon is a similar story for the Lemoore, CA driver with eight top 10s in nine Feature starts including four podiums.BUDDY ON THE BRINK: Michael “Buddy” Kofoid moved one step closer to making history as the California swing wrapped up last weekend.A third and a second pushed his current podium streak to seven in a row with Roth Motorsports and moved him to fourth in the standings. He’s now in position to tie the record for the highest finishing Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year in Series history, but he could also set a new mark. Donny Schatz sits just 64 points ahead of the Penngrove, CA native.Kofoid has been successful at both tracks on this weekend’s agenda. The 22-year-old claimed an All-Star Race at Wayne County in 2019 and podiumed there that same season.His experience is a little more limited at Sharon but still with flashes of speed. Kofoid posted an All-Star top five in 2022 and drove from 12th to seventh last May with the World of Outlaws.BUCKEYE BRILLIANCE: Any trip to Ohio is a welcome part of the schedule for Donny Schatz.The 10-time Series champion has tallied 32 of his 315 career World of Outlaws victories in the “Buckeye State” at six different facilities – Eldora Speedway (18), Attica Raceway Park (five), Atomic Speedway (four), Fremont Speedway (two), Limaland Motorsports Park (two), and Sharon Speedway (one).Schatz could make Wayne County the seventh on Friday. CHICAGO (September 26, 2024) — Zizzo Racing and the Rust-Oleum Top Fuel dragster team are gearing up for a strong finish at the NHRA Midwest Nationals, September 26-29. The team has already made a significant impact this season, securing their first No. 1 qualifier at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 Nationals in May.
 
At the prestigious 70th annual U.S. Nationals, driver TJ Zizzo piloted the Rust-Oleum Top Fuel dragster to a No. 3 qualifying position, his best starting spot since joining the event in 2004. With just one more race remaining on their partial season schedule, Zizzo is eager to cap off the year with a strong performance at World Wide Technology Raceway.

“We don’t race at every NHRA national event by design but when we go to the races, we are there to perform, entertain the fans and try and get in the winner’s circle,” said Zizzo, a Top Fuel national event finalist in 2020. “We got some people’s attention in Chicago and that was a highlight for this entire team. They work so hard year-round. When you can say you were the No. 1 qualifier in Top Fuel in 2024 with as tough as the competition has been, that is a great achievement.”
 
Zizzo’s legacy at the NHRA Midwest Nationals, nestled in the historic shadow of St. Louis’ Gateway Arch, traces back to his debut in 2004. Since then, he has maintained a perfect qualifying record. The fan-favorite’s best performance was in St. Louis in 2020, when he secured the No. 4 qualifying spot and progressed to the quarterfinals, defeating Luigi Novelli in the opening round. Last year Zizzo qualified No. 13 and was ousted early by championship contender Justin Ashley.
 
“Every race is special to our team,” said Zizzo. “We put a massive amount of effort into our program. We were more prepared than the last for every race we attended this season.  It’s a privilege to be able to compete at a very high level. It takes a dedicated team to be able to compete against the best in the world andSt. Louis feels like a hometown race.”


The 2024 edition of the Midwest Nationals will be Zizzo Racing’s final event of the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. The event is the third race in the six race NHRA playoff series and Zizzo is looking to continue to improve on the Rust-Oleum Top Fuel dragster’s performance and make an impact on the playoff outcome. A first Top Fuel win is still on the bucket list for the family owned and operated single car team.
 
“It is cool to be able to compete in a playoff national event and we want to be sure to represent Rust-Oleum and all our sponsors at the highest level,” said Zizzo. “The stakes are high across the board for all the teams. We are chasing our first Top Fuel win, and some other teams might be chasing world championships. Every team must perform at the highest level to have success in qualifying and on race day. We have proven we can race with anyone, and I am ready to get on the track.”
 
Zizzo and the Rust-Oleum Top Fuel team will make their first qualifying run Friday at 5:30 p.m. CDT and 8:00 p.m. CDT, with two more qualifying runs slated for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Final eliminations for the quickest 16 Top Fuel dragster will begin on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The contested race will be broadcasted nationally on FS1.
 

WEST MEMPHIS, AR (September 25, 2024) – The long-awaited return of the American Sprint Car Series National Tour to Riverside International Speedway is finally here, as “The Ditch” is back on the schedule for the first time in three years.

Given the tour’s absence in recent seasons, more than half of the Series full-timers have no prior Riverside experience entering this weekend’s World Short Track Challenge. One driver not on that list is Memphis’s own Landon Britt, who began his Sprint Car career in 2018 competing in Riverside’s 305 Sprint Car division.

But even with that experience, for what to expect this weekend, Britt said his guess is no better than anyone else’s.

“You can’t really expect anything,” Britt said. “One week you can have a hammer down, heavy track, 15 inches all day and then the next week you can have glass slick, 10 or 11 inches all day. It’s a very wild track to know what’s going to come. Then, also with the river being there, you have to watch how high the river gets. Kind of like down in Florida, the higher the tide, the wetter the track. It’s a guessing game.”

One of the few drivers in the field with more laps around Riverside than Britt is Greenbrier, AR’s Jordon Mallett, who has been a frequent visitor to the track throughout his 15-year Sprint Car career and has two United Sprint Car Series wins in West Memphis on his resume. He preached the same message as Britt, emphasizing the importance of keeping up with the unpredictable Riverside track surface.

“It’s a flip of the coin, honestly,” Mallett said. “I’ve seen that place be anything and everything. It’s just dependent on what they do with the place.”

For Britt, the opportunity to sleep in his own bed after a night of racing is a welcome change of pace after spending the last three seasons traveling thousands of miles across the country chasing the National Tour.

“Always good to be closer to home and hopefully do well in front of your home crowd,” Britt said. “It makes it easier on us. We have the availability of anything we need if something happened, any help, things like that.”

The 2024 season has been a roller coaster for the No. 10 team, with three top fives mixed in with a handful of crashes and mechanical gremlins along the way. He currently sits seventh in the standings, the same spot in which he ended 2023.

Britt is focused on building momentum in the final 10 races of the season to propel the team into 2025 with a full head of steam, and there would be no better place to kickstart that upward trajectory than his home track.

“It’s had its ups and downs,” Britt said. “We’ve really played around with [the car] a lot and dove deeper into our fine tuning, trying to find new things. We’re trying not to get too caught up in the points, because then you just kind of stay in your own box. We really want to get out of it and learn. If it falls back for us a little bit this year, then hopefully it gains us next year.”

Mallett’s season has also taken plenty of unexpected turns, many of them having nothing to do with his on-track performance. His original plan was to take a hiatus from running the full National Tour with a newborn baby at home, but he ended up joining the Series anyway for eight races in the seat of the No. 55B while Brandon Anderson healed from an injury. Mallett didn’t take long to get comfortable in his new surroundings, with a last-lap pass for the win at Batesville Motor Speedway highlighting his substitute stint in the car.

The last stop on tour at Arrowhead Speedway marked Mallett’s first National Tour races back behind the wheel of his own No. 14 car. He was a contender all weekend, collecting finishes of fifth on Friday and seventh on Saturday.

While laps in a Sprint Car are helpful regardless of which car they come in, Mallett touched on the need to compartmentalize the two teams when switching from one to another.

“There’s just some things different,” Mallett said. “For the most part, everybody’s got good equipment. There’s some things that carried over there with me when I went, and there’s some things that carried back. I know what I like in my own car, and theirs drives a little different than mine.”

Mallett will follow the National Tour to Riverside this weekend looking for his second Series win of the year and first in his own equipment. With the World Short Track Challenge being a co-sanctioned event with the USCS – where Mallett has two championships and 25 wins to his name – he has all the motivation in the world to get the job done in one of the top events on either schedule.

“It’s cool, it’s like, where do you draw your association at,” Mallett said. “I’ve spent quite a bit of time with both series. It’s just a cool deal. I’m just more excited about another big 360 race. That’s super beneficial, we need big races, so hopefully it’ll turn out to be a really good event.”

More than 50 of the top 360 Sprint Car teams in the nation will join Britt and Mallett in West Memphis, AR for the World Short Track Challenge at Riverside International Speedway on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28. The World of Outlaws battle for two nights at the last debuting tracks on the 2024 schedule

GREENWOOD, LA (September 24, 2024) – All eyes are on the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models as the final five races are next until a champion is crowned at World of Outlaws World Finals.

Kicking off a weekend in the South, the Series stops in Louisiana for the first time since 2007 at Boothill Speedway for the $15,000-to-win Bayou Classic on Friday, Sept. 27. Before the racing begins at the 1/3-mile dirt track, there will be a kickoff party from 8-11 p.m. CST, featuring live music from Don Hayes.

Then, it’s a westbound trip to Petty, TX for the Texas Torpedo 50 at Rocket Raceway Park with $15,000 up for grabs and the momentum to end the season on a high note before the finale at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in November.

Here are the top storylines to look out for:

Three-Way Title Standoff: Current World of Outlaws CASE Late Models points leader Brandon Sheppard holds a 54-point margin over his two championship adversaries in 2024 – Bobby Pierce and Nick Hoffman – with little room for error between the three.

Sheppard’s three wins, 22 top-fives, and Series-leading 30 top-10s have the New Berlin, IL driver in prime position to end the season with the Longhorn Factory Team hoisting his record-breaking fifth Series title.

Pierce has been the top dirt Late Model driver in 2024 with 12 Series wins, crown jewel triumphs in the NAPA Gopher 50, Prairie Dirt Classic, USA Nationals, North-South 100, World 100, and most recently the Late Model Knoxville Nationals on Saturday. However, time is running out on the Oakwood, IL driver’s chances of catching Sheppard for his second consecutive Series title.

Hoffman disregarded any possibility of a sophomore slump in his 2024 season with the Series. The Mooresville, NC pilot’s five Feature wins, 18 top-fives, 26 top-10s, and 258 laps led are the most by a reigning World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year honoree since Watertown, NY’s Tim McCreadie in 2005.

Born on the Bayou: Robeline, LA’s own Cade Dillard enters the weekend with a strong home-field advantage at his native grounds on Friday night at Boothill Speedway.

The Dillard family has long ties to Boothill, dating back to Cade’s father, Greg, racing at the 1/4-mile facility. Dillard and his little brother, Caleb, have both won at Boothill previously.

Bobby Pierce is the only other Outlaw to win at “The Hill”, coming in March at the Ronny Adams Memorial from battling alongside Dillard for the Feature win.

Five More Chances: An incredible 33 races completed in the season lies five more opportunities for competitors to park their car in World of Outlaws Victory Lane before 2024 concludes.

Among the drivers that won in 2023 and have yet to score this season are Kyle Bronson, and 2022 Series champion Dennis Erb Jr. Outlaws looking to snag their first career Series points win include Tyler Bruening, Dustin Sorensen, Max McLaughlin, Brent Larson, Cody Overton, Tristan Chamberlain, and Dustin Walker.

With two new tracks on tap for these competitors in Louisiana and Texas, there is an opportunity for any driver to break through for a Feature win with the Series before it is over.

Don’t Mess With Texas: Returning to the Lone Star State for the first time since 2017, the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models visit Rocket Raceway Park on Saturday night as the final track to debut on the season’s schedule.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the track’s opening in 2014, the Petty, TX area has seen notable winners, including MD3 Rookie of the Year points leader Dustin Sorensen, Jake Timm, Cade Dillard, and reigning Summer Nationals champion Tyler Erb. Sorensen, Timm, and Dillard took their triumphs aboard a UMP Modified.

Saturday’s Texas Torpedo 50 marks the last race until the four-day season finale at The Dirt Track at Charlotte as drivers continue to shuffle positions inside the points standings through the remainder of 2024.
