“I’m actually enjoying it. It’s definitely a different role, but I enjoy the car build side and dealing with the people. Not calling the race seems a little strange, but Randall (Burnett, crew chief) is doing a great job. It’s just fun to watch and watch him come along. He is doing a great job. If he was doing a really bad job it would be hard. It would be something that you would want to question everything he does, but I just support him. I support the whole group and just try to make sure everybody has what they need. We are moving forward, everybody is working well together and that is what I feel my role is. To make sure everybody has what they need and everybody is working together and going for the same goal. Simon Pagenaud Puts Chevy on Pole at Barber
Chevrolet IndyCar Drivers Capture Top-Five Starting Spots and Eight of Top-10

BIRMINGHAM (April 23, 2016) – Simon Pagenaud, the most recent Verizon IndyCar Series race winner-last Sunday on the Streets of Long Beach-won the Verizon P1 Award for the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park. With a lap of 1 minute, 6.7262 seconds/124.089 mph, Pagenaud, piloting the No. 22 PPG Automotive Finishes Team Penske Chevrolet, captured his first pole of the 2016 season, and the third of his career.

Will Power qualified the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet second. Power, along with Pagenaud and Scott Dixon, No. 9 Target Coca Cola Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, who qualified fourth for Sunday’s 90-lap race, are the only drivers to appear in every Firestone Fast Six session in 2016. THE MODERATOR: Simon, first of all, how did the first practice go? Obviously it looks like some weather is moving in, so it might be a marker for you guys in terms of progress heading into tomorrow.

SIMON PAGENAUD: Yeah, this morning was interesting. We worked mostly on race setup. We had a few things we wanted to try from the open test here. The car was behaving pretty well on the tires, actually. It was a very interesting session. The track changed a lot, as well, which it always does at that time of the day between 11:00 and 12:00. KEVIN HARVICK TO START FROM POLE POSITION AT RICHMOND
Qualifying for Toyota Owner’s 400 Cancelled Due to Rain

RICHMOND, Va. – April 22, 2016 – Qualifying for Sunday’s Toyota Owner’s 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

The starting grid has been set per the provisions in the NASCAR rulebook. Starting positions are based on the times from the first practice session held on Friday. Twenty-one Chevrolet SS drivers will take the green flag on Sunday for 400-laps/300-miles of racing at the .75-mile track.

2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and three-time Richmond winner, Kevin Harvick, piloting the No. 4 Busch Light Chevrolet SS, will start from the top spot as he posted a quick lap of 20.919 seconds/129.069 mph in the first practice session. “I just came off pit road trying to go out there in qualifying trim. Not knowing what the weather is going to do later on, we wanted to lay down a lap and get us the best starting position we could if it does rain out qualifying. It’s unfortunate. I just feel like a rookie, it’s my third year in the Cup Series, and to do something like that you feel pretty stupid.”

WHY DO YOU LIKE RICHMOND SO MUCH AND WHY DO YOU THINK YOUR DRIVING STYLE IS A GOOD FIT HERE?
“The short track part of our schedule is a lot of fun. You have Martinsville, Bristol, Richmond, all are uniquely different, but they all share the same quality and that is a short track. There are things you have to do on a short track to work on conserving the tires also, making sure you are good on the short run, making sure you are good on the long run, because restarts have become so much more important over the last couple of years. You don’t know if you are going to have a long run to finish the race or if you are going to have short run. You’ve just got to be ready for everything and it seems like at the short tracks the preferred lane on restarts is becoming more and more important. You hope you are on the inside lane when it comes down to one of the final few restarts and that way you are able to gain positions instead of having to be on the defense. Richmond is a fun track. They used to call it the action track, that was when the groove would widen out and get to two, three lanes wide. We always hope to get back to that and it’s a matter of finding the right tire and the right downforce combination to allow the cars to race competitively side-by-side in safe situations. That is what we want to do is put on a good show. DETROIT (April 21, 2016) – If there is any pressure on Josef Newgarden to repeat his 2015 Victory Circle appearance at Barber Motorsports Park this weekend, the 25-year-old from Hendersonville, Tennessee, isn’t letting on.

To the contrary, the driver of the No. 21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing is brimming with confidence entering the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.

“We’ve had a couple of good top-10 finishes these last two races (sixth and 10th). Now it would be nice if we could go there and get a little bit better than that,” Newgarden said. “Finally getting back on the podium or getting a win would be nice leading into the Month of May. FIVE QUESTIONS WITH SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT/KB RACING CAMARO SS NHRA PRO STOCK POINTS LEADER JASON LINE:

KB Racing teammates Jason Line and Greg Anderson, who drive the Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro SS, have dominated the early going of the Pro Stock class of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season. They have split the wins in the four events and enter the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals presented by Lowes Foods at zMAX Dragway first and second in the standings.

Line, who also has posted two runner-up finishes to Anderson, enters his 289th career race with 39 Pro Stock victories and 43 second-place finishes. He’s been the No. 1 qualifier twice already this season after recording three top qualifying spots in all of 2015. In the spring Charlotte event last year, Line set the national Pro Stock elapsed time record with a 6.455-secnd pass. LONG BEACH, Calif (April 17, 2016) – Simon Pagenaud put the No. 22 PPG Automotive Finishes Team Penske Chevrolet in the lead for the final time on lap 56 of the 80-lap Grand Prix of Long Beach, and went on to claim his fifth career Verizon IndyCar Series (VICS) victory. Six Chevy SS Drivers In Top 10

BRISTOL, Tenn. – (April 17, 2016) – Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s second straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) runner-up effort in the No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS was impressive, but didn’t come easy at Bristol Motor Speedway. Earnhardt suffered an issue with the ECU unit right after the start of the race and lost two laps to the leaders. But by lap 146, he had moved back to the lead lap in 27th position. “Junior” methodically made his way back to the front and had a shot at the win in the waning laps before finishing second. We didn’t have a good enough car to run in the top 5 today, but Greg (Ives, crew chief) and those guys did a great job getting our laps back. We had a dead battery at the start of the race; something bad like that, same thing I think happened to the No. 22 (Joey Logano). That cost us two laps early in the race and we worked real hard. Greg did a great job helping us get our laps back. The car was about a 15th or 10th place car. We were just lucky on those restarts as to where we lined up. And that really helped us.”

“We just battled through it. Junior had trouble at the start and I was 40th when we started the race. One car at a time. One set of tires at a time. And then we were in great position around lap 350. We got the lead from (Carl) Edwards for a little bit. And we just kept working on it. And there’s nothing more that I could have gotten out of the car. I’m really happy with the way that everybody worked together. I shouldn’t be happy about finishing 3rd, but I’ll take it. It’s just a great effort. And the way that this team has come together is perfect. We just need to find that last little bit. Thanks to Haas Automation, Monster Energy, and Chevrolet. It’s just wonderful to have a good group of guys to go out there each week to have a shot at it. And, I still don’t think I’m supposed to be happy about finishing 3rd. But, Edwards ran a great race. “Well, it wasn’t much different. I just think the two guys behind us were racing each other a little bit and the No. 5 (Barbosa Fittipaldi) wasn’t as near, so it kind of gave us some freedom to push. But, I think if it wasn’t for Ricky’s (Taylor) start, getting us into the lead, right up to the end, we wouldn’t have had a chance because track position was key. And the guys kept us up front with that pit stop. So, it was a tough day. But I’m glad to have Konica Minolta back in Victory Lane here in Long Beach.”

This race, three years ago, when Konica Minolta started with us and we’ve had three second or first-place finishes. So, it’s just awesome. We couldn’t be happier.”
