THEY SAY EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS. HOW BIG WAS THIS WIN?
“I guess I remembered how to drive; and I guess this team remembered how to do it! I’m just real proud of this team. What a tough track and tough conditions. We were really in our wheelhouse and we were just able to execute all day. Thanks to everybody at Lowe’s and Chevy and the fans and a ton of sponsors. Oh, it was hot in there. I got cooked in the car today. I didn’t have any fluids so I’m not feeling the best, but we got into Victory Lane. I’m so proud of the fight in this race team. I can’t wait to celebrate during this off-weekend with my family and friends and really enjoy this.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas–Post Race Notes

YOU WENT THROUGH THE ADVERSITY OF SPINNING IN QUALIFYING AND HAD TO START IN THE BACK OF THE FIELD TODAY. AT WHAT POINT DID YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAD SOMETHING AND COULD POSSIBLY WIN THIS ONE TODAY?
“Oh, probably on the second or third run I knew we were in good shape. From there, off we went. It was so tough those first 23 laps in traffic. The air was very turbulent, the track wasn’t very clean, and just the way it finished now, I think we could start with what I could show. It will just take a little time for this track to age. It’s nothing out of the ordinary. But, it was an awesome day for this Lowe’s team. A big thank you to all the employees at Lowe’s. If you’re not busy this afternoon, head over to Lowe’s and pick up some stuff for your house and let’s celebrate.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 24 NAPA CHEVROLET SS – Involved in a single-car accident during the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Texas Motor Speedway

WHAT EXACTLY LED TO YOUR IMPACT?
“Just got out of the groove there off (Turn) 2 and got too high and got the wall. Then had too much wheel in it going the other way, so just a mistake on my end. I hate it. I thought our car was pretty good, so hopefully this one will be just as good if not better.”

ARE YOU GOING TO TRY TO GO FOR IT LATER IN QUALIFYING?
“I’m not sure. I literally just walked up. We will talk about it and see what we think is best. It is obviously going to be a… just need to be mindful of the rest of the weekend. This is our last car. We just need to keep that in mind. It’s definitely edgy so that is something to think about… good question.”

WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT IS THE TRACK LIKE?
“Yeah, just made a mistake and got too high off (Turn) 2. Got into the fence and ran out of room.”

THERE ARE A LOT OF DRIVERS TALKING ABOUT HOW ON THE EDGE IT IS CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT IT FEELS LIKE ON THE TRACK?
“Yeah, it’s just with new repaves we have to have a tire that can withstand the speed and when that happens it just makes it real on edge and that is just part of it. Not an excuse, just made a mistake.”

DID YOU LEARN SOMETHING IN THIS SHORT PRACTICE? OR ARE YOU STILL SORT OF CONFUSED AND YOU ROLL ON TO QUALIFYING?
“Don’t do what I just did.”

DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE IT IN YOU TO CONQUER TEXAS THIS WEEKEND WITH THE NEW TRACK SURFACE AND NEW CONFIGURATION?
“I have it in me, but I think it’s a clean sheet of paper. You can’t pick a favorite right now. Anytime there is a reconfiguration, a new asphalt it’s a total game changer. All of past history is now out the window and it’s like we are coming here for the first time.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas–Jimmie Johnson

ALL THE DRIVERS IN THIS GARAGE AREA HAVE PRAISED YOUR CINEMATOGRAPHY SKILLS. HOW MUCH GRIEF HAVE THEY GIVEN YOU FOR GETTING THOSE LAPS ON THE TRACK AND GIVING THEM AN INSIGHT OF THIS NEW SURFACE?
“I’m not sure who posted it or how it got there, but I wish I had thought of that. I was trying to help our team, not everybody. But, it kind of worked out that way. We were here right after the Vegas race before they had lines on the track and just taking a look. I think the speedway did a pretty good job of paving it. It was extremely smooth. All the transitions seem to be pretty good and it was very wide. Trying to decide where to run in the pace car with no lines and not knowing where Turns 1 and 2 will go once we get into practice here. It was definitely interesting. It’s going to be a good time. I’ll be a little bit curious to see who is going to be the brave soul that goes on track first today. It won’t be me. I’ll kind of sit back and watch and see how it goes.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas–Chris Buescher
