INDIANAPOLIS (August 30, 2014) — On the eve of the 3rd annual Funny Car Traxxas Nitro Shootout three John Force Racing Funny Car drivers having differing views but similar goals on attacking the $100,000 to win specialty race. There was much discussion today at the Shootout press conference about “doubling-up” and for the all the competitors they know that is a tough proposition. Of the 20 different drivers who have “doubled-up,” winning pro bonus races and national events on the same weekend, only four have done so more than once: John Force in Funny Car, Bob Glidden and Greg Anderson in Pro Stock and Matt Hines in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Today the best effort came from John Force and the Castrol GTX High Mileage Ford Mustang Funny Car who covered the 1000 foot track in 4.865 seconds at 168.94 mph.

Fontana, Calif (August 29, 2014) – Helio Castroneves will lead the field to the green flag for the final Verizon IndyCar Series race of the 2014 season. The championship contender piloted his No. 3 AAA Southern California Team Penske Chevrolet around the 2.0-mile Auto Club Speedway with a two-lap average of speed of 218.540 m.p.h. Four Team Chevy Drivers in Top Six in Qualifying

ATLANTA (Aug. 29, 2014) – Kevin Harvick put Chevrolet power on pole position Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) for Sunday’s Oral-B USA 500. His lap of 190.398 mph (29.118 seconds) in the No. 4 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet SS was a full 0.3 mph faster than the second-place qualifier around the 1.54-mile track.

This marked the sixth pole thus far in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season for Harvick, and his first career pole at (AMS).

“That is a big number. I hadn’t thought about it a whole lot until I saw a decal with it made up. I thought ‘man that is a lot of races, especially in a row’. Really proud of that, it’s been an amazing career in the Cup Series. It seems like it was yesterday that it started right here over 20 years ago. I love this track. I love racing here so it’s pretty cool to have 750 happening here.”

World of Outlaws Legend Sammy Swindell Announces Retirement

World of Outlaws Legend Sammy Swindell Announces Retirement
Three-time champ was one of series’ original racers
CONCORD, N.C. – Aug. 25, 2014 – The numbers and statistics are only a measure of the legend, but Sammy Swindell will be remembered as one of the greatest drivers in World of Outlaws history.

Swindell, who on Monday announced his retirement from full-time racing effective immediately, is a three-time World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion who achieved 294 victories. The Memphis, Tenn., area native was one of the original Outlaws who helped grow the series from its 1978 origins at Devil’s Bowl Speedway into the premier sanctioning body it is today.

A calculating driver on the track, Swindell also is highly respected for his skills in building and setting up his cars, dedicating his life to perfecting the science of racing.

“Sammy’s talent is more than a driver, he is an innovator,” World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Director Carlton Reimers said. “He was one of the ‘Big 3’ along with Steve Kinser and Doug Wolfgang in the early days, and he persevered through the years. He was a threat to win every night. I hope he and Kevin find all the success they want.”

At 58, Swindell has been racing since he was 15 years old. Now, along with his wife Amy, he plans to help and support his son Kevin, who is achieving success in the NASCAR ranks.

“We have been fortunate to have one of the greatest racers of all-time compete in our series right from day one,” said World of Outlaws CEO Brian Carter. “We wish Sammy and Amy the best as they move on to support Kevin’s racing aspirations.”

Follow A Dream Heads to U. S. Nationals

Jay Blake’s Permatex/Follow A Dream Top Alcohol Funny Car team is already in Indianapolis for the biggest race of the season, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals. “This is a huge weekend for us, and it’s even bigger this year because the race is sponsored by Chevrolet Performance,” said Blake, whose car is the first 5th Generation Camaro Funny Car in drag racing. “We’ve gone over every part of this car, and everything’s in place for a great weekend.”
“It’s not just the biggest race of the year, it’s my favorite race of the year,” said driver Todd Veney, who lives in Indianapolis, just five miles from Lucas Oil Raceway. “We got to the semi’s here a couple years ago, and a win here would be the best thing ever.”
Qualifying begins Friday with afternoon sessions at 1 and 4. There’s one run Saturday at 12:15, and last-ditch qualifying is set for Sunday morning at 9:15. The first round is that evening at 5, and final eliminations are to be completed on Labor Day.

KKR Headed to Washington for West Coast Swing

The World of Outlaws had one stop this past week, a back-to-back show at Castrol Speedway in Alberta, Canada. All three KKR teams finished in the top 10 both nights, and currently the guys are headed to Washington to Kasey’s old stomping grounds for races at Skagit Speedway and Grays Harbor Raceway.
