HUTCHINSON, KS (May 28, 2025) — The summer stretch of racing begins this weekend for the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) with a swing through Kansas at Salt City Speedway and Dodge City Speedway.

Salt City Speedway, located at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, KS, has never hosted the stars of the national 360 Sprint Car circuit and will play host to a standard-purse event on Friday, May 30. ASCS will be joined by IMCA Stock Cars and Super Stocks. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m.; Hot Laps at 6:30 p.m.

The Series then shifts its attention to Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, KS, on Saturday, May 31 for the 15th running of the Steve King Memorial. A $4,000 grand prize will go to the winner of the memorial event, run in remembrance of the life and career of Steve King — a local 360 Sprint Car racer from Jetmore, KS, who was killed in a crash at the 2006 Knoxville Nationals. The IMCA Northern Sport Mods and IMCA Hobby Stocks will support the ASCS program. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m.; Hot Laps set for 6 p.m.

Tickets for the event at Salt City Speedway are on sale in advance at the link below and will also be on sale at the gate on race day. Dodge City tickets will be sold at the gate only.

Here are the drivers to watch and storylines to follow this weekend:

DODGE THIS — Sam Hafertepe Jr. is one of only two drivers in Series history to win in back-to-back fashion at Dodge City and will try for a three-peat this Saturday.

The 39-year-old from Sunnyvale, TX, swept both Series races at the venue last year — first taking the checkers in June after early leader Matt Covington dropped out after a collision with a lapped car. He won again in August, leading all 30 laps of the Steve King Memorial, making him the second driver to win back-to-back races at the track after Jeff Swindell did it in consecutive nights in 2012.

The five-time Series champion has also been competitive in 410 Sprint Car competition at the track in the past, collecting five top-10 finishes in 11 appearances with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, including a best finish of third there in 2009.

WEEKEND WINNER — After a third-place run with the Series at Paducah, Jason Martin continued the swing of good momentum into US 36 Raceway last Friday, where he won with the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League.

Martin, the 2023 Series champion from Liberal, KS, collected his first Feature win of the year at the Missouri oval, topping a field that included Knoxville Raceway champion Austin McCarl, and various Midwest Sprint Car regulars like Kameron Key, Noah Gass and Ayrton Gennetten.

Historically, Martin has been strong at Dodge City, winning nine total Features with various different organizations including with URSS, two with the National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) and one with the American Sprint Car Series in 2023.

HOME STATE HEROES — Kyler Johnson and Zach Blurton are another two Kansas natives racing around home this weekend at two tracks where they’ve turned laps at and won before.

Johnson, 21, of Quinter, KS, has one appearance at Salt City in his career, resulting in a fifth-place finish with the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) in 2020. He’s had success in both a Sprint Car and a Midget at Dodge City, topping a URSS race there in 2021 in addition to two wins with the Colorado-based Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association.

Blurton, 30 — also from Quinter — won Salt City’s marquee Hutchinson Grand Nationals in 2022 with URSS and has amassed seven total URSS wins at Dodge City, dating back to his first in 2013. Last year, Blurton posted top-10 finishes in both American Sprint Car Series visits.

HEATING UP — Matt Covington topped the field the last time out, collecting his 20th career Series victory in the return to Paducah International Raceway on May 10. This broke a 21-month-long streak of being shut out of ASCS Victory Lane, dating back to August 2023.

The 34-year-old ASCS regional champion from Glenpool, OK, has had past success at Dodge City with four top-five finishes in five career starts, including a Western Plans Region win last year and a win with the national Series in 2023.

Recently, Covington has been contesting weekly 360 Sprint Car events at Knoxville Raceway, recording a third-place run against the locals on May 3 and a 10th-place finish last Saturday.

305 KING — Rookie of the Year contender Ryder Laplante clinched the inaugural IMCA RaceSaver Speedweek points championship this past weekend, which hosted five consecutive nights of racing at five different tracks across Arkansas and Texas.

The 18-year-old from Calera, OK, posted an average finish of 4.4 over the five-race stretch with the 305 Sprint Car group, including a win Thursday at Rocket Raceway Park.

He returns to ASCS competition this weekend after taking the last Series event at Paducah off — as permitted by the one-race drop stipulation for perfect attendance drivers — and will take on Dodge City on Saturday, where he qualified for the ASCS main event last year.

TEAM CHEVY ADVANCE Nashville Superspeedway May 30 – June 1, 2025

Making the trek to the outskirts of Music City, Tennessee, all three NASCAR national touring series will take the stage at Nashville Superspeedway for a trio of races under the lights.

The tripleheader weekend will mark the sport’s fifth trip to the 1.33-mile Tennessee tri-oval since finding an annual spot on each series’ schedule during the 2021 season. For the Bowtie brigade, Sunday’s Cracker Barrel 400 will be a shot at redemption after falling just one spot short of staying undefeated in NASCAR’s top division at the track last season. Chevrolet at Nashville SuperspeedwaySince NASCAR’s return to Nashville Superspeedway in 2021, Chevrolet has been the only manufacturer that’s paid a visit to victory lane at the track in all three divisions.

When the NASCAR Cup Series hit the track for its first-ever appearance in 2021, it was Chevrolet that made the inaugural trip to victory lane with a dominating performance by Kyle Larson and the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team – a win that was accompanied by a podium sweep for the Bowtie brand with Ross Chastain (2nd) and William Byron (3rd). The victory kickstarted a Team Chevy three-peat at the Tennessee track, with Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott taking the victory in 2022 and Trackhouse Racing’s Chastain following suit in 2023. Larson and Chastain’s victories are accompanied by series-leading statistics that automatically put them at the forefront of top contenders heading into the weekend. In four Cup Series races held at Nashville Superspeedway, Larson is the only driver to finish within the top-10 in each of his starts. While a late-race incident took him out of contention last season, Chastain powered his Trackhouse Racing-prepared Chevrolet to top-five results in the series’ first three events at the track, including a runner-up finish in the inaugural race and his win in 2023.

Hitting the Halfway MarkAt the drop of the checkered flag at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Cup Series has officially raced its way into the second-half of its regular season schedule. With Chastain’s crown jewel triumph, Chevrolet has collected a series-high five wins this season, with the 32-year-old Alva, Florida, native joining his fellow Team Chevy teammates, William Byron and Kyle Larson, with an early ticket into the 2025 playoffs. Dating back to just the third race of the season at Circuit of The Americas, Byron took over the series’ points lead and has been a fixture among the top-two positions ever since – ultimately regaining the lead from his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Larson, following a strong points day and a runner-up finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Chevrolet also holds a commanding lead in a variety of statistical categories including stage wins (14), top-10s (60), laps led (1,976) and pole wins (7).
On the ReboundWith eight different winners thus far this season, eight opportunities remain to secure a playoff position by virtue of a win. Among those looking for their first trip to victory lane of the season includes a handful of Team Chevy drivers that are hitting a stride as we enter the second-half of the regular season.

Intermediate IconsFresh off the Coca-Cola 600 victory, Chevrolet continues to prove to be a force to be reckoned with on the circuit’s intermediate ovals this season. In seven races on non-drafting intermediate ovals, the Bowtie brand has made three trips to victory lane including Chastain’s Charlotte Motor Speedway win and a pair of victories by Kyle Larson at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Kansas Speedway. Qualifying has been a strong suit for the Chevrolet camp, with five of the manufacturer’s series-leading seven pole wins coming on the configuration – each earned by a different driver. In five of the six intermediate oval races thus far this season, Chevrolet has recorded at least four top-10 results in each, including a season-high seven top-10 finishes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

I always stay after the race and go to Tootsies down on Broadway and that’s always a good time. Tootsies has been a longtime supporter of Trackhouse so it fun to go down there and spend time. I get to Nashville a couple of times each year, usually for sponsor things, so I’m very familiar with the area and it’s a lot fun.”
Why have you had so much success at Nashville?“The track is very unique. It feels like it’s a mile-and-a-half but it’s not so it takes me some time to get acclimated. But I’ve had fast cars there to be honest. If my cars aren’t good, I can’t go fast. We’ll look to build off of things we’ve learned more recently about these cars and try to keep moving the needle. I’m running the Xfinity race so that’s exciting and a challenge. I’m running a JRM car with Acceptance Insurance on Saturday night and that will allow me to get some more reps in at the track.”

Austin Dillon, No. 3 Richard Childress Racing ChevroletWhat are your thoughts on Nashville Superspeedway?” Nashville is a very awesome town. The racetrack is concrete, which makes it unique from some of the other tracks we race at. It’s become a good race on our schedule. I’ve won a truck race there, so looking forward to trying to win another guitar. The track surface is one of those surfaces that really chews up a little bit of tire, so you definitely have to do a very good job at putting heat in the car.”
The No. 3 team seems to be figuring things out lately. What has changed over the past several weeks? And what do you still need to improve on?“We’re starting to click as a team. We do a good job adjusting on our Chevy during the race, but if we can hit the setup earlier in the weekend, we can have better track position, which will help a lot during the race. We had a top 10 streak going and I really thought we were going to have another top 10 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but we unexpectedly ran out of fuel at the end of the race. Our finish doesn’t reflect how well we ran. Nashville is another track that has been good to us in the past, and I think with the way this team is performing right now, we should be able to continue our positive momentum.”
What has Kyle Busch been like as a teammate? Specifically, this year as RCR continues to restructure things and move forward. What has he brought to the organization?“I feel like Kyle Busch gives you what you expect, which is that he’s a hard worker. He’s fiery. He wants the best for the cars. He wants to get to victory lane constantly and will push everyone to figure out how to make that happen, even himself, on the track. But as far as being in the meetings with him after practice and on Mondays in our team debriefs, he’s very helpful. He asks good questions at the right time about what your car is doing, and he provides information that you can make your car better off of. From that standpoint, you couldn’t ask for a more helpful teammate when it comes to his knowledge of the game and what he is providing from an informational standpoint.”

Justin Haley, No. 7 Spire Motorsports ChevroletHow do you feel about Garner Trucking coming back to Nashville for Sunday’s race underneath the lights?“Everyone at Spire Motorsports appreciates the support from Sherri and the entire team at Garner Trucking. Our trucks stand tall going up and down the road and when they pull into the race track for the weekend. We’re looking forward to representing Garner for the next two weekends. I feel like our cars keep getting better and Nashville and Michigan should be good tracks for us, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how we stack up.”

Kyle Busch, No. 8 Richard Childress Racing ChevroletHow do you think the racing has evolved at Nashville Superspeedway since we started going in 2021?“I think the racing in Nashville has been really good. I remember years ago, a long time back in the Xfinity days, it was a one-groove racetrack around the bottom of the racetrack. It wasn’t really conducive to a whole lot of side-by-side racing and whatnot. But the last few years it’s really been good there. The track really widens out. There’s guys that are running all the way up at the top groove. So it’s been a good show. So hopefully the fans enjoy it. I hope it’s not too hot next week. Perfect weather here this weekend in Charlotte. So I look forward to Nashville.”

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 Hyak Motorsports Chevrolet“Nashville Superspeedway is always a race I look forward to. The atmosphere is incredible, and the fans bring a lot of energy. Michael McDowell, No. 71 Spire Motorsports ChevroletTalk about earning your first top-10 of the season last week in the Coca-Cola 600.“We have been really good at 1.5-mile tracks, I’m glad to get that top 10. We have been in position to get those finishes, but haven’t been able to get to the end. It was a long night after missing my pit box and starting Stage Two at the back. It was tough to get back to the front, but we slowly and methodically worked our way forward with some big help from out pit crew. I’m proud of our guys, our ability to execute a sold night, and getting to the end of a long race with a good finish. We have some more to work on, but I am proud of the effort from our Spire Motorsports team. We have some momentum to ride into Nashville this week.”
What are your thoughts as we head into Nashville this weekend?“Nashville is fun. I’ve been able to race there a bunch over the years with both the ARCA Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. When I started in Cup, that was the track where we went and tested at a bunch. It’s a fun race track and it’s a challenge to get around. The race is like a hybrid of a short track and a big track, but in these cars, it’s pretty cool because you’re downshifting, up shifting, there are a lot of opportunities. I think that it’s one of my better tracks, even though we don’t have the Cup results to show for it. Speed wise, it’s been a fun track for us. We just haven’t had the finishes, whether we got tied up in wrecks or we had a transmission explode there last year. I haven’t had great luck but felt like we’ve had good speed.”

Carson Hocevar, No. 77 Spire Motorsports ChevroletWhat is your outlook for Sunday’s race at Nashville?“I think we’ll have a good car and hopefully another shot at a win, without the bad luck this time. We’ve reached a point where it doesn’t matter what type of track we go to, we are consistently up front and running some of the fastest lap times. Eventually everything balances out and we’ll start having the finishes to match those runs. Nashville is a really fast track and I think it plays into my driving style, having to keep up with the track changes and making moves when the opening is there. I feel like we’re going to have another really good race.”

Shane van Gisbergen, No. 88 Trackhouse Racing ChevroletAfter a solid performance at Charlotte, how do you feel your aggression is growing on ovals?“I think we are showing improvement now. It has been difficult results wise, but I do feel like we are getting somewhere, getting better and better. To me, I know I have a lot to learn but I don’t feel like I’m forcing it or driving outside my limits. Every week I’m being methodical about it. I feel good about the way it’s going.”
There are three road course races over the next two months. Are you looking forward to this part of the season?“I’m looking forward to some right handers, that’s for sure (laughs). Got some good tracks coming up, tracks I know, but obviously Mexico City is a fresh one for everyone. But these ovals have been a big learning process the last couple of months, so it will be nice to have a break and turn right.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 Trackhouse Racing ChevroletWhat are your thoughts on Trackhouse Racing’s 300th start this weekend in Nashville?“That’s amazing. It all started as Justin’s (Marks, owner) dream and we’ve grown from a single car team to what we are now. The men and women who work at Trackhouse should be very proud. We are a very young team competing against the Gibbs, Penske, Hendrick and Childress teams of the world who have been successful for so long.”
What are your thoughts on Nashville this weekend?“We want to celebrate Sunday night at Tootsie’s like Ross did in 2023. Maybe we will drive our Tootsie’s Chevrolet from victory lane and park it right on Broadway. Nashville is a special place for us. It’s Tootsie’s hometown, Justin’s hometown, and a really fun town. There would be no better place to win.”

Connor Zilisch, No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet“I’m really excited to go to Nashville for the first time. It’s such a cool city and I’ve raced at the Fairgrounds before, but this will be my first time racing at the NASCAR track in Nashville. I have some laps on the simulator and it’s definitely a technical racetrack and is one of the few concrete tracks that we go to. I’m looking forward to figuring it out quickly and keeping the momentum up from Charlotte. We had a really good day running inside the top three in both stages and finished second. The Blues Hog team is starting to fire on all cylinders and I’m looking forward to putting races together and getting more good finishes through the summer.”

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: First North Dakota Weekend of 2025 Brings World of Outlaws to River Cities, Red River Valley

The Series heads to a pair of North Dakota staples to begin a stretch up north

GRAND FORKS, ND (May 28, 2025) – The northern part of the United States hasn’t seen The Greatest Show on Dirt in 2025, but that’s about to change in a big way.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is trucking from southern Ohio after a Memorial Day stop at Atomic Speedway, all the way up to North Dakota for a weekend in the “Peace Garden State.”

First on the agenda is the always exciting River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND on Friday, May 30, for the Gerdau Metals Recycling presents the Don Mack Classic. The tight bullring never fails to deliver thrilling action. There’s a reason it’s atop longtime Series announcer Johnny Gibson’s list of favorite tracks out of the more than 400 he’s visited.

Saturday, May 31, takes the tour an hour south down I-29 where Fargo, ND’s Red River Valley Speedway awaits to host the Ellingson presents the Rumble on the Red. The 3/8-mile dirt track is the most visited North Dakota track for the World of Outlaws, and this weekend will mark 70 trips to Red River Valley. That will give it sole possession of the eighth most visited track overall in the long history of The Greatest Show on Dirt.

The north has been waiting, and now it’s their turn for the country’s best Sprint Car drivers to invade.

Let’s look at the weekend’s top storylines:

HOME SWEET HOME: A weekend in North Dakota means racing in front of home state fans for Minot native and now Fargo resident Donny Schatz.

Schatz grew up attending World of Outlaws races in his home state with hopes of one day competing himself, and he’s followed those dreams to 10 championships, more than 300 wins, and cementing himself as one of the best to ever get behind the wheel.

Home turf has always been kind to Schatz as he’s assembled his legendary résumé. His River Cities record is nearly impeccable. He’s taken part in all 33 World of Outlaws races at the bullring and bagged a dozen victories, 23 podiums, and 30 top fives. His average River Cities finish is 2.8, and his worst result is eighth. Red River Valley is home to six of Schatz’s checkered flags with The Greatest Show on Dirt.

BREAK OUT THE BROOM: Recent history at River Cities and Red River Valley says a driver just might break out the broom.

The last two weekends at the pair of North Dakota tracks have resulted in sweeps. First, it was Logan Schuchart in 2023, taking both nights, giving him two scores at River Cities and his first at Red River Valley. Then, Carson Macedo and the Jason Johnson Racing group swept last season, giving the Lemoore, CA native two checkered flags at both ovals.

The only driver to pull off a weekend sweep so far in 2025 is David Gravel, and the defending Series champion has done so three times already.

WINNERS ON THE RIVER: The three drivers above aren’t the only current full-time World of Outlaws competitors that have enjoyed success in North Dakota.

David Gravel is a two-time River Cities winner. The current point leader came out on top with CJB Motorsports in 2017 and then again in 2023 with his current Big Game Motorsports crew. The Watertown, CT native is yet to win at Red River Valley but has landed on the podium three times, including a pair of runner-ups.

Last year, Giovanni Scelzi went to River Cities Victory Lane in only his third attempt at the 1/4 mile. “Hot Sauce” hasn’t finished worse than eighth in four tries in Grand Forks, ND. Like Gravel, he’s still in search of a win at Red River Valley, peaking at fourth in 2023 with KCP Racing.

ROOKIES ON THE RISE: The last couple weeks have proven to be very productive for many among the stout 2025 class chasing the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year.

Chris Windom is leading the recent charge. After no top fives and five top 10s in the first 21 races of the campaign, the Canton, IL native has reeled off a pair of top fives and four top 10s over the last four races in the Sides Motorsports No. 7S. He’s fresh off a personal best second-place finish at Atomic Speedway. “Big Daddy’s” lead atop the rookie points has grown to 52 markers. He’ll debut at both River Cities and Red River Valley this weekend.

Another former wingless ace, Hunter Schuerenberg, heads to North Dakota with the momentum of his best result of the year. He steered the Vermeer Motorsports No. 55 to fourth on Memorial Day at Atomic. That came after a solid 11th at Attica, completing a weekend that allowed him to pass Cole Macedo for third among the rookies. Schuerenberg grabbed a River Cities top 10 with the World of Outlaws back in 2018, and he came home 11th at Red River Valley the same weekend.

The Bill Rose Racing rookie duo of Zach Hampton and Conner Morrell have also turned heads. Hampton’s last seven nights have led to a trio of top 10s. Morrell was runner-up at Ohsweken two weeks ago and followed that with an Attica top five. Neither driver has been to either track on this weekend’s agenda.

Skylar Gee and Logan Fenton Racing found plenty of speed in Ohio this past weekend. The Leduc, AB, Canada driver came away from Attica with his first World of Outlaws podium. He backed it up with an Atomic top five two nights later.

NOSA NAMES: Expect many local drivers that compete regularly with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) to face off with the World of Outlaws this week.

Grand Forks, ND’s own Mark Dobmeier is always a name to watch. He’s a three-time World of Outlaws Feature winner but is still looking to capture one at his home track of River Cities, where he’s racked up dozens of local checkered flags. He’s been in the top five on six occasions, including a pair of podiums with The Greatest Show on Dirt at the bullring.

Fellow Grand Forks native Jade Hastings is already a River Cities winner in 2025, topping this past weekend’s NOSA event. He also won there four times a year ago. Hastings’ lone World of Outlaws top 10 came at River Cities in 2018.

From right across the river in East Grand Forks, MN is another recent River Cities winner, Nick Omdahl. He topped a pair of NOSA visits last year and is a frequent competitor with the World of Outlaws when they roll into town. Omdahl made the Toyota Dash last August.

Other local drivers likely to be in attendance this weekend are Brendan Mullen (Grand Forks, ND), Blake Egeland (Climax, MN), Jack Croaker (East Grand Forks, MN), and more.

Evaluating the World of Outlaws Rookie Class of 2025 Entering the Summer Stretch

CONCORD, NC (May 28, 2025) – This year’s list of newcomers to the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision was billed as one of the best in recent memory.

Sixteen races into the season, the quartet of MD3 Rookie of the Year contenders have been living up to those expectations since the drop of the green flag in January.

Hailing from four different corners of the United States, each of them has been on their own unique path to the pinnacle of dirt Late Model racing, and they’re each on their way to becoming household names with The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet.

Here’s a look at where each rookie stands four months into the year:

Drake Troutman – 1st in rookie points, 4th in overall points: After joining forces over the winter, Drake Troutman and Team22 Motorsports have both reached new levels of competitiveness in the first portion of 2025.

The pairing burst onto the scene by nearly winning the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals finale at Volusia Speedway Park. Troutman led the first 39 laps of the Feature before coming up one spot short in a fierce battle against one of the all-time greats in Jonathan Davenport.

A pair of top fives at Swainsboro Raceway a month later further cemented Troutman’s status as a regular at the front of the field. At the next stop on tour at Farmer City Raceway, Troutman experienced a bit of déjà vu from Volusia, as he led the first half of the Illini 100 before it was ripped out of his hands late in the going, this time by five-time Series champion Brandon Sheppard.

If Troutman wants to close the gap to the likes of Bobby Pierce, Nick Hoffman and Ryan Gustin in the coming months, the name of the game will need to be consistency. While he’s collected five top fives, Troutman has also finished 13th or worse nine times. That will require plenty of learning on the fly in the coming weeks, as I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park is the only one of the next seven tracks on the schedule Troutman has raced a Late Model at before.

Ethan Dotson – 2nd in rookie points, 8th in overall points: For the first time in two years, a rookie has already gone to World of Outlaws Victory Lane in 2025 thanks to Ethan Dotson’s performance at Farmer City Raceway.

The Californian’s first Series triumph was the culmination of a year’s worth of effort since he teamed up with ASD Motorsports in May of 2024. The No. 74X team won four times at the regional level in the second half of last season to give themselves a head of steam entering their first full World of Outlaws campaign, and they didn’t let off the gas once the calendar turned to 2025. Dotson picked up two top fives at Volusia to put himself atop the rookie table leaving Florida, and while he stumbled a bit with some tough nights in March, his Farmer City score thrusted him right back into the Rookie of the Year conversation.

Three top fives in the seven World of Outlaws races since then may not have been the stat line Dotson was aiming for, but things are trending back in the right direction. A fifth-place run at Marion Center Raceway was Dotson’s best finish since the win, and he followed that up with a runner-up in regional action at East Alabama Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend.

Much like Troutman, Dotson is also new to the upcoming tracks on the June schedule. But once he gets through that stretch, July brings some places Dotson knows his way around – he’s a former Modified winner at both Deer Creek Speedway and Fairbury Speedway.

Jake Timm – 3rd in rookie points, 15th in overall points: Jake Timm knew he was in for a challenge taking on the entire World of Outlaws schedule in his first full season in the Late Model ranks, but confidence is growing by the week in the No. 49 camp.

The former United States Modified Touring Series star experienced his fair share of growing pains in the opening weeks of the year at tracks that were all brand new to him, only making the Feature three times in the first 10 races. The Dairyland Showdown at Timm’s home track of Mississippi Thunder Speedway was supposed to be a get-healthy weekend, but a flat tire on Friday and a spin on Saturday knocked him down to 19th and 20th, respectively.

Timm notched his best run of the season when he finished 11th in his first visit to Marion Center, and he’ll be chasing more solid showings during the Midwest swing that features multiple tracks he’s familiar with. Timm has raced at I-94 emr Speedway three times in USMTS competition, and he has two USMTS wins and plenty more local success an hour from home at Deer Creek.

Austin Smith – 4th in rookie points, 17th in overall points: Rounding out the rookie class is Austin Smith, who is chasing the World of Outlaws tour with the support of 2015 Series champion Shane Clanton and the Capital Race Cars team behind him.

After a rough start to the season, the No. 11 team turned a corner during the Ohio-Pennsylvania swing. Smith finished top 20 in back-to-back races for the first time at Raceway 7 and Marion Center before rounding out the weekend in 11th at Bedford Speedway, matching his performance at Weedsport Speedway in 2016 as his career best with the World of Outlaws.

Smith will continue his chase for his first top 10 as the season wears on, and there’s one track in particular he has circled on the calendar – Fairbury. Last season, in his first Prairie Dirt Classic appearance in eight years, Smith finished third in his Showdown Feature on Friday night to lock down a spot in the 100-lapper on Saturday, and he’ll be looking to build on that run in his first PDC as a full-time World of Outlaws driver.

Berry, Freightliner Team Have High Hopes For Nashville

Josh Berry and the No. 21 Freightliner team are headed to Nashville Superspeedway, the 1.33-mile concrete oval that is about a 30-mile drive from Berry’s hometown of Hendersonville, Tenn., for Sunday evening’s Cracker Barrel 400.

Berry, who qualified on the outside pole last year in his only Cup start at Nashville, said he’s looking forward to returning to the track and continuing the run he and the Freightliner team have had on intermediate-length ovals this season. That includes a win on the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.

“I feel good about where we’ve been on the intermediates,” Berry said. “We’ve shown a lot of speed and been really competitive. The goal is to keep building on that, especially in qualifying and continuing to learn with the playoffs in mind. Nashville and Michigan are two tracks I’m looking forward to. I felt like we ran well there last year, so I see them as great opportunities to put together some solid results and keep improving.”

Practice for the Cracker Barrel 400 is set for Saturday at 3:35 p.m. Central Time (4:35 Eastern) to be followed by qualifying at 4:45 (5:45 Eastern). Sunday’s 399-mile race is expected to get the green flag just after 6 p.m. (7 p.m. Eastern), with Stage breaks planned for Laps 90 and 185. Amazon Prime will carry the TV coverage all weekend.

HULL AND JIM DUNN RACING BRING MOONEYES AND COMPASS TO EAST COAST

Jim Dunn, a legend within the sport of drag racing, continues to support Hull’s growth as a competitive force in the Funny Car ranks. The team has been fine-tuning its setup to meet the unique challenges of the Epping track, and fans can expect an exciting weekend of high-speed action. During the second round of qualifying on Friday night, Hull will be competing for the No. 1 Clawifier Award that comes with a large lobster for himself and a lobster dinner for the team, presented by NAPA.

Josh Hart Looking to Improve on Race Day Consistency in Epping

OCALA, FL (May 28, 2025) — Over the past four NHRA national events, dating back to the Winternationals in late March, Josh Hart is one of only two Top Fuel competitors to advance out of the first round at every race. That four-race streak will be put to the test this weekend when the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads to the northeast for the NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway. The R+L Carriers Top Fuel team will be making their fourth attempt to race to the winner’s circle at one of the most historic tracks on the circuit. Hart has enjoyed success in the Top Alcohol Dragster ranks racing to three consecutive final rounds in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series winning at the track located just north of Boston in 2017 and 2019

“New England Dragway has been around for a long time, and we have had some success there with my Top Alcohol Dragster. I have only raced there three times with my Top Fuel operation, and we are looking to get back into the winner’s circle,” said Hart, a multi-time Top Fuel national event winner. “It is a smaller venue, but the fans up there are super passionate about their drag racing. We have been making some good runs, and the temperatures should be cooler. We have found a solid cooler track temperature tune up so hopefully we will be able to put it to good use.”

One new addition for this weekend’s race is the introduction of the “No. 1 Clawifier Award presented by NAPA.” A special chair made of lobster pots will await drivers at the top end, with the evening’s No. 1 qualifier sitting in the chair until they are replaced by a new No. 1 qualifier or claim the No. 1 Clawifier Award presented by NAPA. The driver will receive a large lobster, while the teams will be given lobster dinners to celebrate a thrilling performance under the lights on Friday night.

To cap it off, a special New England Nationals lobster pot buoy trophy will await event winners on Sunday, along with the iconic Wally trophy.

“Lots of tracks are stepping up their game on special trophies or award which makes me even more eager to get this R+L Carriers Top Fuel dragster into the winner’s circle,” said Hart. “As a team we want to come out with quick runs on Friday because that sets you up for a strong weekend. It there are extra prizes on the line that just makes it a cooler experience for everyone from the crew guys to the fans.”

In the three previous R+L Carriers appearances at the NHRA New England Nationals Hart has experienced a wide array of on-track results. In his first appearance in 2022 as the No. 5 qualifier racing Shawn Langdon, Hart’s 12,000-horsepower Top Fuel dragster suffered a major engine event right off the starting line. In 2023 the event was a complete washout and Hart was a part of a contingent of drivers who lobbied the NHRA to move the event to Bristol Dragway the following weekend rather than wait out a problematic rain forecast. As the No. 4 qualifier he was then upset in the first round by Brittany Force. Last year he raced to the quarterfinals from the No. 11 spot outrunning Justin Ashley in the first round before falling to 8-time Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher in the quarterfinals.

“We really haven’t had a normal race in Epping yet,” said Hart. “I know my R+L Carriers guys are ready to get back on track after a week off. We have some good momentum going and we just want to build on that. We will have four qualifying sessions hopefully if the weather cooperates but regardless, we are going to give it our all.”

Hart and the R+L Carriers Top Fuel team will be on track for two qualifying runs on Friday, May 30, at 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and the final two qualifying runs will be contested Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Final eliminations will commence on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. with the race being broadcast nationally on 6:00 p.m. ET on FOX.

Indianapolis 500 Glory: Honda retuned to victory lane at the Indianapolis 500 this year, with reigning and three-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou giving Honda their 16th Indy 500 win—and the first Indy 500 victory in the hybrid era. The win comes as part of a record-shattering season from the Spaniard, which has seen him win five of the first six races so far this year. Palou holds a 112-point advantage in the drivers’ championship going into this weekend’s race in Detroit thanks to his five victories and worst finish of P2 so far this year.
Honda winning streak continues: Honda has kicked off the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES with a perfect winning record thus far—with Alex Palou taking victory at St. Petersburg, Thermal, Barber Motorsports Park and the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in addition to his Indy 500 victory. Honda’s Kyle Kirkwood took the honors at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in American Honda’s backyard in April. This is the first time since the return of multi-manufacturer competition in 2012 that one engine manufacturer has swept the first six races of the year. Honda holds a 102-point lead in the manufacturers’ championship leaving Indianapolis, 539-437.
Detroit Domination: Honda drivers and teams are two for two since the Detroit Grand Prix moved to the downtown street circuit for the 2023 edition of the race. Alex Palou took victory in 2023 in the first race on the new circuit, while his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate, Scott Dixon, led a Honda 1-2-3-4 in last year’s event. Between the new downtown circuit and the previous track at Belle Isle, Honda holds 18 victories in the Detroit Grand Prix.
Honda’s IndyCar engine scores 100th win: Alex Palou’s victory at the Indianapolis 500 has pushed Honda’s HI22TT engine series past the century mark in victories since its introduction in 2012. The 2.2-liter, six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged engine has powered Honda to 100 IndyCar series wins, eight Indianapolis 500 victories, six drivers’ championships and four manufacturers’ championships.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Xtreme Outlaw Midgets Tackle Inaugural King of Coles Doubleheader, May 30-31

MATTOON, IL (May 27, 2025) – Since the 1950s in Illinois, the town of Mattoon has witnessed dirt Midget racing grow from a regional to a national level.

The town welcomed the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota to Coles County Speedway for the first time last year, and this year the premier Midget series returns for the inaugural King of Coles event, May 30-31.

Competition begins with a $4,000-to-win Feature in the weekend’s opener on Friday. Then, Saturday night’s $5,000-to-win finale will crown the “King of Coles County Speedway.”

Both nights will also count toward the Xtreme-POWRi Challenge Series. They’ll be the third and fourth races of the 10-race series, which started at Farmer City Raceway in April and continues at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park (Jun. 20-21, Aug. 1-2), Doe Run Raceway (Sept. 5) and the finale at Highland Speedway (Sept. 6).

Here are the top storylines to keep an eye on:

Inaugural Coronation – The Xtreme Outlaw Midgets visited Coles County Speedway for the first time in 2024, with the year’s Rookie of the Year Ashton Torgerson winning the night’s Feature.

Upping the stakes in its second year with the Series, the track will award the status of King of Coles for this year’s main event winner.

Alongside the racing in Mattoon, IL, the Honest Abe Roofing Cookout will provide food and refreshments for drivers and teams to enjoy at the Xtreme weekend on Friday night.

Holding Strong – Series points leader Jacob Denney’s time at Airport Raceway did not go the way he wanted. Trouble early on in the race resulted in his drive from 16th to eighth by the checkered flag.

His recovery helped him maintain his points lead. He left Garden City with a 57-point advantage over Chase McDermand.

Similar to the four tracks that the Series has raced in 2025, the pilot of the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports (KKM) No. 67 will climb into his car at Coles County for the first time to chase the first monarch honors in the track’s history.

Cannon’s Takeoff – Cannon McIntosh needed a spark to get his 2025 Xtreme Outlaw Midgets season back in full song after leaving Farmer City Raceway 16th in points. Since then, the Bixby, OK driver has garnered a top-five finish at Humboldt Speedway, a podium finish at 81 Speedway, and then his first win of the season at Airport Raceway – his second career Midget Roundup victory.

The reigning Series champion’s May comeback helped him jump 10 positions in the standings to sixth place as he looks to score his second win of the season at a track that saw him pick up a top five and a podium finish in 2024.

Challenge Royale – The King of Coles weekend sets up the third and fourth races of the 2025 Xtreme-POWRi Challenge Series schedule – the first events since Farmer City Raceway in April.

Mason City, IL’s Karter Sarff leads the standings entering the weekend, with Denney behind the Toyota-powered No. 21K by a single point.

The top five drivers sit within 26 points of each other, with 2023 champion Zach Daum in third (20 points), Chase McDermand in fourth (24 points), and fifth-place rookie Kameron Key in tow.

Flying Rookies – Several rookies of the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets have shone through the first quarter of the season as they knock on the door toward their first Series Feature win.

Hayden Wise became the first 2025 Series rookie to lead laps in a Feature after starting the Midget Roundup on the pole and leading the opening 14 laps before finishing fourth for her first top five.

Trifecta Motorsports’ Michael Faccinto scored his second straight top five, while 21-year-old Alex Karpowicz has scored top 10s in every Series race contested in Kansas.

Cadillac at Detroit: Driven from the start

Three Cadillac V-Series.Rs aim for victory in home race on downtown circuitDETROIT (May 27, 2025) – Brothers Jordan and Ricky Taylor, who have combined for nine sports car racing victories on temporary street circuits in Detroit, will attempt to add to that total with Cadillac Racing in the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic.
Ricky Taylor teamed with Filipe Albuquerque in 2024 to win the 100-minute IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race on the temporary circuit around the Renaissance Center with another manufacturer. This weekend, they’ll be driving the No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R.

Aitken teamed with Pipo Derani to recover from 10th on the starting grid to finish sixth in 2024, three positions lower than the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R.
“Detroit is one of the most important races of the year for us with it being in General Motors’ and Cadillac’s back yard,” said Jordan Taylor, who will be making his 180th IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship start. “We have high expectations for the weekend. I feel like we’ve been learning and making progress every time we are on track with this car, so hopefully we can roll off the truck in a good spot and have a strong weekend at home.” The Taylors co-drove to victory on the Belle Isle circuit in 2014 and 2016 with the Corvette DP and in 2017 in the Cadillac DPi, which resonates as a career highlight in their IMSA championship season. They led a 1-2 Cadillac sweep in the No. 10 Cadillac DPi V.R for Wayne Taylor Racing for a fifth consecutive triumph.
“I actually crashed in qualifying and lost my best lap time. I had to start at the back, and so we thought it wasn’t going to happen. But it had a happy ending,” Ricky Taylor said.
Added Jordan, who has also won in the Motor City in 2013 with the Corvette DP and in 2012 in the GT class: “I think after the qualifying crash we thought that our win streak was going to be over, but I think that year we were so strong. It was the first year of DPi and I felt like as a team working with Cadillac and Dallara developing the car we felt like we were in such a good position performance-wise all through those races. Detroit came and I think Ricky made a couple positions on track and then the guys made a good strategy late in the race.” Peacock will provide flag-to-flag coverage in the U.S. at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday, May 31 (internationally via IMSA.TV and IMSA Official YouTube channel). PLACERVILLE SPEEDWAY HOSTS NARC SPRINT CARS FOR THE DAVE BRADWAY JR. MEMORIAL RACE

(5/26/25 – Andrew Kunas) Placerville, CA … One of the most prestigious sprint car races on the West Coast is next for the NARC Racing Series, as the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series competes in the 34th running of the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway.

The event honors the memory of a popular young sprint car racer who lost his life at age 28 in a crash at the 1987 Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. Dave Bradway Jr was a winner of several NARC main events, his first coming at Petaluma Speedway in 1982, and he also won a track championship at the old Baylands Speedway. First run in 1991 and held every year but once since, the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial for a long time has been considered one of NARC’s signature events and a staple on the West Coast sprint car scene.

As has been the case every year, extra payout – a lot of it – will be up for grabs for the racers. Everything from bonuses for winning heat races, to cash for leading specific laps, to drawing specific pills, to quick qualifying time, to bonuses for just winning the race, and much more, will all be going out on Saturday night. With bonuses, Saturday’s 40-lap main event will pay at least $5,500 to win.

D.J. Netto of Hanford is the NARC points leader going into Saturday’s race, having won twice so far this season as he picked up wins at the Stockton Dirt Track and Antioch Speedway. The former NARC champion will be looking to win the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial for the first time aboard the Netto Ag No. 88N.

Fremont’s Shane Golobic, second in the points, should be one to watch aboard the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w as he has seen a lot of success at Placerville Speedway in his career and has won twice there already this season in non-NARC competition. Golobic led much of the way in last year’s Bradway, but this time hopes to win it for the first time.

The list of past winners of the Bradway features many of the best to ever do it, including National Sprint Car Hall of Famers Brent Kaeding, Jimmy Sills and Paul McMahan. McMahan won the inaugural Bradway in 1991, while Kaeding has four to his credit, with Bradway victories coming in 1995, 1999, 2000 and 2007. No one, however, has won more than former series champion Jonathan Allard, who has five Bradway victories on his resume, picking up checkered flags in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2012.

WHO TO WATCH

The 2025 season in NARC competition for reigning series champion Justin Sanders has been nothing short of a roller coaster. Sanders, out of Aromas, has won two NARC features this season but has also experienced a number of lows across the way, including twice spinning out while racing for the lead.

Sanders though has seen success at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, being a two-time winner of the event including last year’s barn burner when he picked off a number of cars in the late laps to win it. Having a low moment the last NARC outing, Sanders hopes the roller coaster ride swings back up in the form of a third Bradway win for him aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x.

Lemoore’s Gauge Garcia is still hunting for his first NARC 410 sprint car victory, and Placerville Speedway could be the place where that happens. Garcia led laps in last year’s Dave Bradway Jr Memorial main event. Garcia and the Keller Motorsports No. 2k team hope that it happens again, only this time they stay up front and pick up a special victory.

The NARC program will include qualifying, four 8-lap heat races, a 6-lap Trophy Dash, a 12-lap Last Chance Qualifier and a 40-lap main event.

Placerville Speedway is located on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds at 100 Placerville Drive, in town just off U.S. Hwy 50. General admission is $28 for adults. Tickets are $25 for seniors 62 and older, military and kids ages 12 to 17. Kids ages 6 to 11 are in for only $10 and young children 5 and under are in for free. The fairgrounds is charging $10 for parking.

There is more sprint car action on Friday night as well for fans to check out. The inaugural Davy Thomas Memorial, honoring the NorCal sprint car superfan who also supported NARC, will feature SCCT 360 sprint cars action that night.

Dominic Scelzi Records Back-to-Back Third-Place Finishes at Silver Dollar Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (May 26, 2025) – Dominic Scelzi earned a pair of podium results at Silver Dollar Speedway last weekend during the Silver Dollar Fair.

The two third-place finishes doubled his season total of podium outings from two to four.

“We changed a lot on the race car and it had a different feel, but we qualified where we have been,” Scelzi said. “But racing-wise, I think we’re really good.”

Scelzi opened Friday’s competition by qualifying 11 ^th quickest. He then won a heat race from the third starting position to garner the pole position for the main event.

“The bottom got reworked before the feature,” he said. “I ran around the bottom and when I moved up it was a lap too late. (Justin) Sanders had a big run and was able to get around me. I followed him around for 10 or 12 laps. Then I hit a little bit of the hole into turn one and (Shane) Golobic got by me.”

Scelzi’s third-place finish put him in a good position entering Saturday’s event finale. He won a heat race to advance into the dash. A seventh-place result in the dash lined Scelzi up on the inside of the fourth row in the A Main.

“We had a really good race car and ran ourselves up to third,” he said. “We weren’t bad to start. Everyone else faded and we just didn’t. The longer the race went the better we got.”

Scelzi’s third-place outing marked his fifth top five of the season.

“We are racing really good,” he said. “We know what we need to focus on. We know where we need to get better. Qualifying has been our hinderance. We made a lot of changes last weekend in Chico and will continue to work hard at it.”

Scelzi plans to head to Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., this Friday for the Davy Thomas Memorial with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and Saturday for the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial with the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series.

“We’ve raced good there over the last few years consistently,” he said. “It’ll come down to qualifying. We have to be able to qualify well to put ourselves in position. If we can do that I have no doubt we can race for wins.”

CORVETTE RACING AT DETROIT: Home Goals

GTD PRO Corvettes eyeing big victory at hometown street race DETROIT (May 26, 2025) – Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports will be back on home turf this weekend with its pair of Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs part of the field for Saturday’s Chevrolet Sports Car Classic.

The No. 3 and No. 4 Corvettes help make up a 22-car grid of GTD PRO and GTP entries for the fifth round of this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with both cars looking to build on levels of success from the 2024 event in which they qualified first and second in class.
Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, second in GTD PRO points, share the No. 3 Corvette and are coming off a third-place podium finish in the previous round at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. A year ago at Detroit, Garcia claimed pole position in GTD PRO but the No. 3 suffered a mechanical problem on the way to the green flag and finished well down the order.

That left Tommy Milner and Nicky Catsburg to fight for victory in the No. 4 Z06 GT3.R. Milner set the fastest race lap early on as the Corvette led the first 39 laps of the race. Shortly after Catsburg took over, he was hit and spun out following a mid-race restart that resulted in damage to the Corvette and a ninth-place finish.

This is the second appearance for the Corvette/Pratt Miller squad and the rest of the GTP and GTD PRO cars at the downtown Detroit circuit, which runs around the Renaissance Center and the global headquarters of General Motors, is the shortest on the calendar at nine turns and 1.654 miles around. The program previously scored three victories at the Belle Isle circuit. The Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 31. The race will air live on Peacock in the U.S., and IMSA’s YouTube channel internationally. IMSA Radio will air all on-track sessions at IMSA.com along XM 206, SiriusXM Online 996.

It is the home race for Corvette, we race around the Renaissance Center and Pratt Miller isn’t far away. So there will be many guests and fans who we want to do a good job for this weekend. This is the only street race for us in GTD PRO, and I like these a lot. It puts a lot of importance on precision and how you do a lap, not just top speed. I would really like another pole position there and this time a win in our ‘home’ race.”

ALEXANDER SIMS, NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “I take a lot of pride driving and racing a Corvette in Detroit for our home event. In terms of the racing, the Detroit track is quite a challenging one. It’s much shorter than any other track will race this year but it has vastly different sections. There is the long straight in front of the RenCen where you can create opportunities out of the corner leading on to it but also the tight hairpin at the end. The other sections are tight and twisty where you do have to take some risks. Some are calculated and others not so much. But that’s part of street racing and what the fans want to see. Last year Antonio did a mega job putting the car on pole but unfortunately our race was in effect finished before it started with a mechanical problem. I’m confident that this year will be much different and we can finish at the front this time around.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “I’m excited for Detroit. I thought we had a good Corvette there last year. It’s obviously an important event for Chevrolet, for GM and for Pratt Miller, as well. Last year we had lots of guests from all three groups, so it was a big event for the whole team and for Chevrolet. This is a polarizing racetrack. I enjoyed it. I thought it was fun. The beauty and the downside of street-track racing is you get exciting racing, but you’re also exposed to risky passes and exposed to situations that can be outside of your control in many situations. So as always, we have to be diligent with how we race. We are going there with some sense of confidence and excitement for the weekend. That’s not just because we were faster last year, but it’s great to have so many family members of the race team and guests of Chevrolet and GM around in the shadow of the RenCen makes that race even more special.”

NICKY CATSBURG, NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “I’m looking forward to going back to Detroit again. I’m personally not a fan of the track. It’s very difficult and challenging and having to be close to the walls in every corner makes it pretty tough. But it is a very important race for us as a team and as Corvette. It’s one where we want to do very well. Last year we were in a very good spot to have a proper result and maybe even a win. Tommy had a very strong qualifying and I think he brought the car in in the lead. Then I had an incident with one of the Lexus which took us out of the race. Hopefully this year we can fight for our first win in the 4 Corvette, which is something we’ve been trying to achieve for some time. It would be great to achieve that on home soil.”

Berry Finishes 12th At Charlotte

What began as a tough night for Josh Berry and the No. 21 eero team turned into a hard-fought comeback, as they rebounded from a lap down to finish 12th in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.Berry rolled off 18th but quickly began losing ground to the leaders as handling issues set in. He had dropped to 30th by Lap 40 and was on pit road under the green flag when Kyle Larson spun and brought out the caution flag.That ill-timed caution dropped Berry to 37th and a lap down, but he took the wave-around on the next yellow and finished Stage 1 in 33rd.Berry and the eero team endured another tough stretch in the second 100-lap Stage, holding on to finish 27th while staying committed to turning things around in the closing half of the race.As the handling of the No. 21 Mustang Dark Horse steadily improved, Berry finally caught a break, earning the free pass after a multi-car incident at Lap 247 involving Ryan Blaney and four others.Returning to the battle in 22nd place and back on the lead lap, Berry was able to finish 20th in the third Stage.With the car dialed in for the final 100-lap run to the checkered flag, Berry cracked the top 15 by Lap 315, ran as high as fifth during green-flag pit stops, and settled into 14th with 38 laps to go.With nine laps remaining, he moved into 13th place, then passed Erik Jones for 12th with two to go, earning his fifth finish of 12th or better in 13 races this season.Eddie Wood said that the strong comeback was rewarding for him and for the family of Marine Cpl. Honda returned to victory lane in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing with Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou taking the win in the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The victory extends Honda’s record as the most wins for any major manufacturer at 16, and also extends Honda’s winning streak to start the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship—with six wins in the first six races.

Five of those victories have come at the hands of Alex Palou. The Spanish sensation has won at St. Petersburg, Thermal, Barber Motorsports Park and earlier this month on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Today’s Indy 500 triumph gives him five wins in the first six races as he tries to go for his fourth-career NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship in just five years.

Palou’s worst finish so far this year is second, finishing behind Honda driver Kyle Kirkwood at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach in April. The stellar start to the season has Palou sitting 115 points ahead of his nearest championship rival (306-191).

Palou started sixth and led just 14 laps en route to his first oval win, with Honda’s Takuma Sato leading the most laps in today’s Indy 500 at 51. Sato started second in the race and would come home ninth.

Felix Rosenqvist and four-time winner Helio Castroneves both scored top tens in a strong showing for Meyer Shank Racing. Rosenqvist was scored fourth and Castroneves P10.

The Allegra team did a really good job to get us back in the mix, and the Honda engine was giving me some really good fuel numbers, so we were able to go a bit off strategy. It’s a race you want to win, and it’s a winner-takes-it-all kind of race, and we had a good shot at it. I’m proud of the effort, I’m proud of the performance. “I’m just heartbroken. We had a chance to win this race today. And with a car that hadn’t run a competitive lap before the race started. The DRR/Cusick crew did an amazing job to get the backup car ready for the race. And then to lead for 48 laps and be in position to win the 500 is pretty remarkable. It felt like the engine was starting to run out of fuel when I came through turn four for the pit stop. The final pit stop was good, and we were in the position we want with 31 laps remaining. But it felt like we were out of fuel and the engine stalled. I tried everything to keep it running. But I really don’t know what to say. The Wedbush crew got me in the right spot today with strategy. And the car came together well as we made adjustments during the race. It felt very good the second half of the race. I think we would have come out of the pits with two back markers between myself and (Alex) Palou, and in the proper position to win the race. It’s just a heartbreaking scenario today. It’s going to take a while to get over this one.”

“I think I had a pretty decent start today and we were at the top. Then we had our first pit stop, where we had some issues and we were at the back. I tried to battle my way to the front and I think we were in P13. When it was yellow, it felt really strange – my brakes – already when I was in going slow coming in the pit lane I locked both front tires, which is not usually the case. I wasn’t sure if it was the brakes or if the tires were cold. I did not push, I tried to be very slow, but as soon as I touched my brakes both fronts locked and I just went straight into the guys. It was very scary when I braked I was just a passenger there were no brakes. We don’t know what happened with the car. We’ll have to have a look and see if there is any mechanical problem or if it was just cold tire. It was really sad because we did such a great work in qualifying, but as we know this the Indy 500 and in the race anything can happen. I saw already a lot of strong drivers are out of the race or behind.”

“It’s always a terrible situation. It’s so disappointing. It was such a phenomenal race car. The team made a great decision to stay out there, when that first split happened with strategy. David MalukasPress Conference
THE MODERATOR: Also joined by third-place finishing driver in David Malukas, driver of the No. 4 Clarience Technologies Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Enterprises, his best career finish at the Indianapolis 500, starting from seventh, best career finish in the NTT INDYCAR Series since second place at Worldwide Technology Raceway a couple years ago in 2022. The other day I said, ovals, you and ovals, something about you and ovals.
DAVID MALUKAS: I love them, yeah. I mean, at least — we’ve been having a lot of success on short ovals, but at least finally we could say pretty good success here at the 500.
But yeah, bittersweet ending, but what a good race.
Q.  You said on TV you were tearing up coming in after the race.DAVID MALUKAS: Yeah, all those yellow flags, seeing our position of the car and how good we were, I mean, we had it at the end there. Definitely picturing it, and man, we gave it our all in those last — I think it was about 15 to go, and we turned it up and I was just hanging on for dear life trying to get something out of it. Those two lap cars kind of came in and ruined the fun for us and chose this winner. That’s just kind of how this track goes.
Q.  Obviously it’s bittersweet, but what does this result do for you guys kind of going forward for the rest of the season?DAVID MALUKAS: It’s very good. You’ve got to look at it from a positive standpoint. The guys did an incredible job from start to finish. And that’s not speaking about the race, it’s speaking about this month.
As soon as we unloaded the car, we’ve put the car in the right direction, and never took a blindside. Our path was clear, and it kind of led to getting this P3 finish. That comes down to them. It was from the engineers and mechanics, just an incredible job.
And I think we needed it. If I look at it from a championship standpoint and the season as a whole, we got a little bit of a rough start. So I think this has been a very good month for us to boost morale and lead us for the rest of the season.
Q.  I think your team has a technical cooperation or alliance with Penske. Is it fair to say that maybe your car are nearly identical like the Penske cars?DAVID MALUKAS: No, I don’t think it’s fair. I think it’s an AJ Foyt car. Those are the guys that are working on it, and it’s the AJ Foyt team. So all the credit goes to AJ Foyt. That’s what I’m driving. That’s what’s on my suit.
Q.  Does it feel like this has been a bit of a breakthrough for you, or do you feel like this is the best car you’ve had so far at the speedway and that’s the explanation for the result today?DAVID MALUKAS: For sure. It’s a little bit of a breakthrough. This is third time here but kind of three and a half seasons, fourth season, I don’t know how you put that, but I’ve definitely matured a lot since the last time I was here. But it’s an incredible car. I think we’ve always had the maximum success we could out of the cars, but everything lined up for us, from the team to the guys.
Q.  Do you think that the yellow flag at the end kind of threw you off a little bit?DAVID MALUKAS: I mean, not really. I think we all kind of — are you talking about the one right at the end, like the checkered flag? No, because we were coming out of Turn 4 so there wasn’t really much left to it at the end there. It was going to be the end.
But yeah, it was more leading up before that when we filtered back out after the last pit stop is where things got out of our hand, where the two lappers came in and Palou was able to time a run and sneak behind them and able to take their tow and obviously get his lucky win there.
Q.  The start to this race was sort of all over the place. You had the delay, you had the McLaughlin crash before you started recording laps. You record some laps under yellow, you have the Andretti crash, you have rain. How hard is it to get into a rhythm, especially for a 500-mile race, with that kind of a start, and when did you feel that you and in general most of these guys started to settle in?DAVID MALUKAS: Actually, I think the rain delay in the beginning helped us. We were having some fitting issues so that rain delay gave us some time to get things sorted out. Before the race even started I had to pee so bad, and all these delays, it just made it so much worse. I just kept thinking about it. Then finally the green flag drops, I was able to focus on the race and immediately it was caution again. I’m like, man, we need to just go or I’m going to piss myself in this car. So yeah.
Q.  Can you maybe put into words what it means to you to have this result today just in terms of everything that you’ve gone through over the past two years? The journey you’ve been on has been pretty incredible. I imagine today feels like a turning point or at least something really good to happen to you after a pretty difficult time.DAVID MALUKAS: Yeah, I mean, this past year that I’ve had has been the toughest year I think of my life really. It was a lot of different emotions, roller coasters. And if I look back one year ago today, I wasn’t even in INDYCAR anymore. I didn’t have a left hand and I was up here in the media center just being a fan. And I could say one year later that I’m back in the 500 and not just back but I’m fighting for the win, which is incredible to say.
It’s been an insane year. It’s always going to be a year of maturity for me. I’ve aged — although it was a year, I feel like I’ve aged 10. Everything happens for a reason and I’m taking all this knowledge and everything I’ve learned in the past year and all the hardships and going to put it into more success in the future.
Q.  Talk through, from a team standpoint, Santino started off the month pretty slow, trying to find that balance in the car. You were pretty solid all month long. Talk through how two top 10s builds up morale for the team.DAVID MALUKAS: Yeah, I think as a season as a whole we’ve had so many unfortunate events and they tend to topple, and morale is such a big deal when it comes to team unity and having performance out of it. We were just in a very unfortunate spot and things kept not going in our favor and it was really putting everybody down.
But this month was very necessary for us. If we just look outside of the 500 and the championship, we really needed this. And I think it’s going to be a big turning point for the team and for everybody that we can be there and things can go our way if we just have some luck.
The morale is very high in the team. Even though we were still P3, man, it’s an incredible time. So many things can go wrong in that race, and everything went forward for us and the crew did an insane job on the pit stops, the engineers, incredible time and gave me a great car and strategists were on point.A lot, a lot of positives to take out of it, and we’re going to push into results for the rest of the season.

Promising and Productive Indianapolis 500 for Cusick Motorsports

Both Dreyer & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports cars lead ahead of late race setbacks
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 25, 2025) – The Indianapolis 500 is the crown jewel of open wheel racing, with every driver hoping to get their face permanently enshrined on the famed Borg Warner trophy. For Indianapolis-based Dreyer & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports, that dream seemed within their grasp on Sunday, until lady luck shifted the cards.

Ryan Hunter-Reay (No. 23 DRR Cusick Wedbush Securities Chevrolet) and Jack Harvey (No. 24 DRR Cusick INVST Chevrolet) both led the 109th running of the legendary race, with Hunter-Reay, the 2014 Indy 500 winner, leading 48 of the 200 laps. But despite an alternate pit stop strategy that appeared to have the pair heading toward a solid finish – and perhaps, victory – late race issues thwarted that plan.

Skies around Indianapolis became increasingly threatening as pre-race festivities progressed, with light rain postponing the command to start engines by 42 minutes. The green flag was further delayed when a car near the front of the field tagged the front straight wall on the pace lap, but after a quick clean, the race finally started in front of a roaring crowd that neared 350,000.

Hunter-Reay and Harvey settled in early, with Harvey pitting under an early yellow for fuel, and Hunter-Reay pitting under the second yellow for fuel and a front wing adjustment – putting the team on an alternate pit stop strategy that they hoped would play out at race’s end. With Harvey not pitting under the second yellow, he slotted into P5 as the race returned to green, and as stops continued, the 32-year-old Englishman sped into the lead, holding the top position for three laps before pitting for fuel and tires on lap 47.

Hunter-Reay cycled to the front under yellow, with Harvey slotting into P7 as the race returned to green. In the middle of a scrum in the top six, Harvey placed himself in perfect position, taking third position as a two-car incident behind immediately brought out another yellow. Dashing in for fuel and tires near the end of the yellow, Hunter-Reay returned in P21 but with the team hoping they would be able to get to the finish on only two more stops.

Harvey took the green in second position, with Hunter-Reay making quick moves into P17 – but for only a moment, as a spin mid-field sent the field back to yellow. When the race returned to green, a swarm of cars in the draft pushed Harvey back to P8 as the action settled in once more. Harvey climbed to P6 before pitting on lap 128, returning to the action in 18th with Hunter-Reay just ahead in 15th.

By lap 138, pit stops and passes placed Hunter-Reay briefly into the lead before he too headed to pit lane – but quickly regained the top spot with 58 laps remaining, ticking off the laps with only lapped cars ahead with Harvey not far behind in P11. Hunter-Reay began reporting a push, then a vibration, but the veteran boldly held onto the lead before diving into pit lane 140 for what would be his final pit stop.

But disaster struck for Hunter-Reay in the pit box, with fueling issues. The crew was able to get him back on track, but Hunter-Reay immediately reported issues with the car’s acceleration that sent him back to pit lane – and ultimately, out of the race. Meanwhile, Harvey, with a brake issue coming into pit lane, received a drive-through penalty for a pit speed violation that sent him back to P23. At the checkered flag, Harvey finished P22, with Hunter-Reay 24th.

“We have a lot to be proud of today,” said Harvey. “We led laps, we were both passing cars, the strategy was looking good until it wasn’t, and that’s just the roll the dice that you play here – when you start where we did, you have to roll those dice. I had the brake issue and couldn’t slow down into the pits, which got us a drive through, so that was on me. I just feel like with this team, we could win it, so it’d be great to come back and do it next year.”

“I’m just heartbroken – we had a chance to win this race today, with a car that hadn’t run a competitive lap before the race started,” said Hunter-Reay. “The DRR/Cusick crew did an amazing job to get the backup car ready for the race. And then to lead for 48 laps and be in position to win the 500 is pretty remarkable. It felt like the engine was starting to run out of fuel when I came through turn four for the pit stop. The final pit stop was good, and we were in the position we wanted to be with 31 laps remaining. But it felt like we were out of fuel and the engine stalled. But the Wedbush crew got me in the right spot today with strategy, and the car came together well as we made adjustments during the race – it felt very good the second half of the race. I think we would have come out of the pits with two back markers between myself and (Alex) Palou, and in the proper position to win the race. It’s just a heartbreaking scenario today. It’s going to take a while to get over this one.”

At race’s end, Cusick focused on the positive takeaways from the day – leading the second most laps of the race, with two cars in contention for much of the way.

“If you’d have told us Friday, when that car was in a million pieces, that we’d be leading halfway through and that we would be in front for 48 laps, we’d have taken that bet for sure,” said Cusick. “We were in position to contend for the win, just one of those things in the end. I’m super, super proud of the team, first and foremost – the DRR organization, the people, everybody in the garage and how hard they worked. They all believe they’re going to win. It’s kind of a gut punch when you work so hard and then just come up a little bit short – the next 364 days are going to be tough, but we’ll come back and we’ll try it again.”

INDIANAPOLIS (May 16, 2025) – The 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 features several storylines as Team Chevy goes for their 14th win on the historical 2.5-mile ‘Brickyard.
Josef Newgarden in the No. 2 Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Team Penske Chevrolet chases history as he goes for a record third straight Indianapolis 500 win, but he will have to do it from 32nd on the grid. Pato O’Ward, in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, is hungry for a win to kickstart a championship run after finishing second in two of the last three years.Kyle Larson in the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Arrow McLaren Chevrolet is contesting a second straight ‘double,’ in a pair of Chevrolet-powered cars. Logan Schuchart Bests Sheldon Haudenschild to Earn First Career Attica Victory

ATTICA, OH (May 24, 2025) — Logan Schuchart was looking for a bounce-back race and found it Saturday night at Attica Raceway Park.

The 32-year-old from Hanover, PA, came to the Ohio oval with a DNF, a 12th-place finish and a 13th-place finish in the last three World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series events. But he and the Shark Racing team were determined to turn their results around, and did exactly that, winning a back-and-forth battle with Ohio’s own Sheldon Haudenschild in the 35-lap main event to claim his first career win at the 1/3-mile.

“I’m hoping that what we did tonight gave us an eye-opener of what we need to do better, but we just never figured it out all weekend up there,” Schuchart said, referencing his last two results in Canada at Ohsweken Speedway. “First time I’ve really felt slow all year, but we bounced back with a win, and that’s the best thing we can do.”

Schuchart’s first Attica victory marked his second win of the season with The Greatest Show on Dirt after first going to Victory Lane in April at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park. It also counts as his 44th career Series Feature win, which breaks the tie between he and Haudenschild for 19th on the all-time wins list. Shark Racing also gets its second Series win at the track, dating back to the team’s first in 1992 with driver Joey Allen.

Though Schuchart triumphed in the end, Haudenschild was the driver to beat early. Haudenschild, of Wooster, OH, jumped to the lead from the outside pole and led the first nine circuits as Schuchart and Skylar Gee followed.

Schuchart converted on his first pass attempt for the lead on a Lap 10 restart, taking the high line through Turns 1–2 and driving around the outside of Haudenschild as he stayed down low through the corners.

The next restart on Lap 18 brought more excitement as Haudenschild again took the bottom lane through Turns 1–2, and this time made it stick, driving past Schuchart and sliding up in front of him out of Turn 2 to take the lead back.

“Once we had the lead, I thought we could take off on the top, and I thought it would make it really tough for Sheldon to get a run, but he did a really good job at getting the jump there, getting beside me on the frontstretch and then getting to the bottom quicker than I could entering Turn 1,” Schuchart said. “That was kind of the difference maker on that restart.”

Then came the pivotal restart in their battle on Lap 25. Schuchart again gained speed on the top lane through Turns 1–2 and rode the momentum down the backstretch. When Haudenschild switched lanes from the bottom out of Turn 2 to the top side going into Turn 3, Schuchart dove to the bottom and threw a slidejob across the nose of the NOS Energy Drink No. 17 and took the lead once again out of Turn 4.

“When I was able to run off his right-rear in Turns 1–2 on one of those last restarts and kinda get with him down the backstretch, I knew that as long as he went high, I would be able to slide him,” Schuchart said. “Or I was hoping that if he went low, I could run around the top.”

“Just got that one restart on him and thought I could enter Turn 3 a little higher than I did the couple previous times and maybe get off 4 a little bit faster,” Haudenschild said. “Just left the door open for him a little bit for him to get a slidejob in and get going.”

The red flag was displayed on the next lap, briefly halting the action while Darin Naida’s No. 7N was towed back to the pits. With only 10 laps left, this made for a single-file restart.

Try as he did, Haudenschild was unable to catch Schuchart in the closing laps and settled for a runner-up finish for the second time in World of Outlaws competition at Attica.

“I knew it was gonna be tough single-file,” he said. “I tried to rip around Turns 1 and 2, on the first single-file start and didn’t make up any ground off of 2, so I kind of aborted that. Really, I got through 3 and 4 pretty good and held with him. But running with him and passing him after a single-file is pretty tough.”

Crossing the finish line third was Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award contender Skylar Gee. In doing so, the Leduc, AB, Canada-native secured his first career podium finish with the World of Outlaws — a much-needed confidence boost after enduring the struggles of his first full-time season on the national Sprint Car tour.

“We knew we were capable of doing this,” Gee said. “It just seems like this first quarter of the season, if it could go wrong for us, it has. Truck and trailer issues, motor issues, the list goes on. It’s nothing to feel sorry for us about, we’ve just gotta keep working through it.”

Kalib Henry gained 15 spots of position in his drive from 23rd to finish eighth and earned himself the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award.

Donny Schatz earned his first Simpson Racing Products Quick Time Award of the season in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races were won by Conner Morrell (NOS Energy Drink Heat 1); Gio Scelzi (Real American Beer Heat 2); Logan Schuchart (WIX Filters Heat 3); Sheldon Haudenschild (TheGreatestStoreonDirt.com Heat 4).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw Award went to Conner Morrell.

The Toyota Dash was won by Skylar Gee.

Darin Naida won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Carson Macedo.
