THAT QUALIFYING SESSION WAS REALLY TIGHT
“Yeah, the top 5 was tight. I saw William (Byron) run his .04 there before I went out and I thought man, that’s going to be tough to beat. And, I would have never thought that three other guys would have squeezed in between him and me. That just shows how tough our sport is and our series is. But, our DC Solar Chevy has been really good all day, both in the Xfinity Series and the Cup Series. I felt a little off in first practice, but we got it going good in the second practice and then was fast every round in Qualifying. It’s my favorite track. I have yet to get a win here. We’ve been close so many times. I feel like Kyle (Busch) and I are the two best here, but he always seems to edge me out. YOUR PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK WAS PRETTY GREAT FOR YOU GUYS AS A WHOLE. DO YOU GUYS HAVE MORE OF THAT AND IS THAT THE FIRST OF WHAT YOU WILL SEE FROM YOU GUYS IN THE PLAYOFFS?
“Yeah, you know, obviously that was a big run for our team there at RCR and ECR. Everybody back at the shop has been working really hard to turn the Camaro around for our side of things. We have seen some speed from other guys throughout the year and we have been close. We have had some qualifying runs that were positive, but we weren’t able to relate it to the race. I think last week we proved that we could relate the speed in qualifying to the race and that is huge. Great momentum coming up to some good tracks for us with Bristol, Darlington, finishing with Indy leading into the Playoffs. HOW LONG HAD THIS REALLY BEEN GOING ON IN YOUR HEAD? HOW LONG HAD YOU BEEN CONSIDERING MAKING THIS MOVE? HOW HARD WAS IT TO KEEP IT TO YOURSELF?
“It has been on my mind for a while. Truthfully, the last two years at Hendrick and then the year here at LFR (Leavine Family Racing) just like as far as competition, I haven’t been as competitive as what I want to be. So, I would say over the last three, four months it’s started being on my mind, like man, do I need to find other things to do and think of other things to do. I just finally made that decision. But it’s definitely been there for a few months. I would say this year and LFR is working very hard to make improvements even get better from where we are at right now and that was exciting to me. DETROIT (Aug. 15, 2018) – Past success at a racetrack is a tangible motivator for Verizon IndyCar Series (VICS) drivers. More intrinsic, though no less significant, is a driver’s perceptions of the venue – “their enjoyability factor,” according to Will Power.

Power returns this weekend to Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, for the ABC Supply 500 with motivation and momentum. Power, the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series champion and four-time title runner-up, has won the past two 500-mile races on 2.5-mile tri-oval designed by Rodger Ward. DETROIT (Aug. 16, 2018) – Second-year Pro Stock driver Tanner Gray enters the penultimate race of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Mello Yello Drag Racing Series regular season with great memories, momentum and motivation.

Memories: Gray, driver of the Gray Motorsports Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro SS, will seek to repeat his victory this weekend in the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway. In 2017 at the Minnesota racetrack, the 18-year-old claimed his third No. 1 qualifier honor of the season and raced to his fourth career Pro Stock victory by defeating eventual class champion Bo Butner in the final.
