If he can pull off the rare feat, he’ll stand alongside Doug Wolfgang (1985) and Donny Schatz (2007) as the only men in history to ever achieve the milestone.However, Larson’s 24th career World of Outlaws win was arguably one of his least convincing in recent memory. It’s been since Knoxville when I was last in a Sprint Car, I had to get used to how fast it felt again early in the night.”After qualifying 14th in Flight A, “Yung Money” himself expected to miss the transfer position in the Drydene Heat Race. Lady Luck soon showed up, though, and Larson’s night turned around.Two different cautions, including one for leader Danny Dietrich, moved the #57 up from seventh to second and sent him to the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. It was there he pulled the “1” and then won the six-lapper to secure pole position of the 25-lap Feature.Untouchable in clean air, Larson’s kryptonite was lap traffic as fellow front-row starter Logan Schuchart reeled him in and battled for the lead each time the backmarkers neared.Schuchart cleared a turn-one slider on Lap 17 and momentarily took the lead, but Larson crossed him back over as they sped under the backstretch bridge. An all-out war for the top spot was on the brink before the final caution flew and gave the leaders open-air with a handful of laps left.From there, Larson cruised to a 0.905-second margin of victory in his fourth World of Outlaws win of the 2021 season.”I started sniffing dirty air, it was getting dusty, hard to see the cushion, and I just got over it,” Larson spoke on his mistake. “Logan was good all night, so I wasn’t surprised to see him slide me down there. Overton nets Mike Duvall Memorial at CherokeeThe Evans, GA driver held off Brandon Sheppard for his 18th career Series victoryGaffney, SC – October 1, 2021 – Brandon Overton found himself in a unique position Friday night. The Evans, GA driver, lost the lead to Daulton Wilson on Lap 1, forcing him to step back, regroup, and calculate his next move. A caution on Lap 14 gave Overton another shot at Wilson—one he wouldn’t let slip away. “Big Sexy” used a lap car as a pick to thunder around the North Carolina driver, en route to winning the 3rd annual Mike Duvall Memorial at Cherokee Speedway.   Overton had to search to find his best option on the racetrack before he could make another attempt at the lead.  “[Wilson] was good; I just kind of got back there to see where I’m better, or I’m worse,” Overton said. “He was just slidin’ up and kind of blocking my momentum, so I couldn’t really roll past him. So, I told myself just slow down and maintain.  “I think I seen [Brandon] Sheppard underneath me one time, and I was just like if I don’t go, he’s going to pass me, and I didn’t want him to get by me if the caution come out.”  Seeing Sheppard was the catalyst of Overton’s ascension to the lead, but it wouldn’t be the last time he’d deal with lap traffic.  Sheppard started to reel in Overton during the Feature’s closing stages, but Overton’s experience at Cherokee helped him prevail for his fifth World of Outlaws win of 2021 and 18th of his career.  “I tried to pass them on the bottom a couple times, and they go in there and slide up, so I didn’t want to hang wide, so I just made sure that I didn’t make a mistake,” Overton said. “Like if I wanted to go past them, I needed to pass them or, I needed to box [Sheppard] in.”  Three-time and defending Series champion Brandon Sheppard finished second, his 32nd top-five of the season.  The New Berlin, IL driver, finished on the podium for the 24th time in 2021—a trend he hopes to keep alive through the end of the season.  “We had a pretty good car there; it’s just super hard to pass, especially that 76 car he’s been good all year,” Sheppard said. “We’ve ran second at this place quite a few times in seems like so we’re definitely itching to get a win here. But like I said, our car is really good, so hopefully, we can finish off the year strong and with a good head of steam going into next year.”  Sheppard’s runner-up finish means he’s mathematically secured his third consecutive Series championship and fourth overall, tying Josh Richards for the most all-time. He’ll officially claim that title at the NGK NTK World Finals November 4-6 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.  Early race leader Daulton Wilson finished third, his best finish with World of Outlaws. The Fayetteville, NC driver is confident that running up front means he’s knocking on the door for a Series win.  “I got out front and led some laps, and it’s not a matter of if it’s when here when you get into the lap traffic, and you’re the leader,” Wilson said. “You can’t get off the bottom, you know it’s coming, but to get outrun by the top two drivers in the country it says a lot for us and our program, and we’re just going to keep building on it and hopefully next time we come out on top.”  Chris Ferguson crossed the line fourth, and South Carolina driver Chris Madden rounded out the top five.  Brandon Overton’s ability to calculate his next move in the face of adversity is one of the reasons he continues to be a factor in every race he enters. MONROE CENTER, OH (October 1, 2021) – Current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship point leader, Tim McCreadie, extended his lead in the quest for his first series championship as he swept the night at Raceway 7. McCreadie’s Paylor Motorsports entry set Allstar Performance Overall Fast Time, won Penske Shocks Heat Race number one, and took the lead over from Shane Clanton after Clanton had a flat tire while leading. McCreadie and Clanton went back-and-forth for the race lead between laps 38 and 41, but Clanton suffered a left rear flat tire while leading with 41 laps scored. Clanton slowed on the track and headed to the pit area after leading a race high 36 laps. After the caution for Clanton, McCreadie powered away for his sixth series win of 2021. Josh Richards came from sixth to finish second with Earl Pearson Jr., Kyle Bronson, and Jimmy Owens rounding out the top five. Owens was the Optima Batteries Hard Charger of the race coming from 23rd to take fifth in a back-up car after motor issues in his main ride during a heat race. McCreadie’s 28th career LOLMDS triumph was his first at Raceway 7, in only his third start at the Northeastern Ohio speedplant. “I could tell his (Clanton) left rear was wrinkling really bad. I mean normally when they wrinkle up like that, they still have air in them and it’s because it’s got a bunch of load in it, kind of like drag cars. I noticed it was rolling outside the rim and I knew he was in trouble. I just didn’t want to ring that cushion. I just tried my best. I hated it for Shane. I know how hard they are working. I think he truly had it tonight.” Richards came home in second, 1.8 seconds behind the winner. “We’ll take second. We have had a pretty rough year. Just to be in the hunt for the win was really cool. I didn’t want to see that caution, I was thinking I could sneak up on them. After that restart Timmy got out there and he was pretty good.” Pearson rounded out the podium in the Jason Papich-owned car as he recorded another strong finish. “We survived the race. We had a good battle with Josh for most of the race. McCreadie and them were pretty well checked out up front. To be up this far north I really enjoy it. Year-end point fund increased following 2021 prize money increase; New and big events highlight 2022 schedule 

CONCORD, NC – October 1, 2021 – As the 2021 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models season gets closer to the NGK NTK World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, big plans are already in place for the 2022 season.  

New multi-day events and an increased year-end point fund highlight next season’s campaign, as next season’s champion will take home an additional $25,000. 

The winner of the 2022 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model championship will earn a Series-high $125,000. The top-12 drivers in 2022 will see more than half a million dollars spread amongst them—each driver getting at least a $5,000 increase.  

Along with the point fund, the 2022 schedule is taking shape in an exciting way, too. A mix of high-paying new events, returning crown jewels, and events drivers and fans love make-up next season’s campaign, so far.

“We are always bouncing ideas off our teams to try and get feedback on things when it comes to the schedule and points fund,” Series Director Casey Shuman said. “We have tried to add some new big weekends each year, and in 2022 we will do that again, along with a very enticing point fund for our full-time teams.” 

WHAT’S NEW

The Rev (Mar 11-12): The Series will get a blast of the Bayou, March 11-12, when it heads to The Rev in Monroe, LA for the first time. A $20,000-to-win Feature caps off the two-night weekend. 

I-55 (June 24-25): Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 has been a staple on the schedule for many years. But in 2022, the World of Outlaws Late Models will make their first appearance at the track since 2018. The Series will be joined by the DIRTcar Summer Nationals for two incredible nights of racing. The stop at the Missouri venue on June 24-25 has $20,000 on the line to finish the weekend, along with special bonuses expected through the field. 

CROWN JEWELS

Fairbury Speedway (July 29-30): The highly anticipated Prairie Dirt Classic returns to the schedule in 2022, again paying $50,000-to-win. Some of the best drivers in Late Model racing will make the trek to Central Illinois to try and win one of the most prestigious races of the season. Kyle Larson held off Bobby Pierce to win his first World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Feature at this year’s event.

USA NATIONALS (Aug. 4-6): The USA Nationals is also back in 2022, as the World of Outlaws prepare for three nights of action at Cedar Lake Speedway. The highly anticipated event will once again pay $50,000-to-win, giving drivers a chance to win $100,000 in eight days between USA Nationals and Fairbury.

Volusia Speedway Park (Jan. 20-22) (Feb. 16-19)- The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model season will again kick off at Volusia Speedway Park with two big events in the sunshine state. First up will be three nights of the Sunshine Nationals (Jan. 20-22) before returning to the World’s Fastest Half-Mile for four nights of DIRTcar Nationals action (Feb. 16-19).

Cherokee Speedway (Mar. 25-26): “The Place Your Mama Warned You About” returns to the schedule in March for the 2nd annual Rock Gault Memorial. The two-night weekend will see the World of Outlaws take on a stout field of drivers in the Southeast, battling for a $20,000 prize on Saturday, March 26. 

Farmer City Raceway (April 1-2): It’s Farmer City Baby! Two nights of action return to Farmer City Raceway for the Illini 100 at the historic 1/4-mile. The Series will spend the first weekend in April in the Land of Lincoln, as drivers battle for a $20,000 prize on Saturday, April 2. In 2021, Mike Spatola and Bobby Pierce each scored their first World of Outlaws victory at the historic event. 

Bristol Motor Speedway (April 29-30): Only three words are needed. “It’s Bristol Baby.” The Series makes its return to the iconic 1/2-mile on April 29-30 with two nights of action for the second consecutive year. The speeds of The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet will thunder around “The Last Great Coliseum,” joined by The Greatest Show on Dirt, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars. 

Mississippi Thunder Speedway (May 5-7): 2021’s Dairyland Showdown at Mississippi Thunder Speedway was an instant fan-favorite, and it’s even bigger in 2022. Next season, one more night has been added, making it a three-day show. $10,000 is on the line the first two nights, followed by a $30,000 prize for the final night of action.  Chris Madden and Brandon Sheppard each won a Feature at the Fountain City, WI track in 2021. 

Sharon Speedway (May 27-28): After a thrilling race won by Kyle Larson at Sharon Speedway in 2021, the Series returns for two nights in 2022. The Hartford, OH track will host a doubleheader on May 27-28, with Saturday’s event paying $20,000 to the winner. 

Boone Speedway (July 8-9): Boone Speedway returns to the schedule in 2022 after making its first appearance this season. Another weekend of events is on tap for the Boone, IA facility, with $30,000 up for grabs on July 9. Bobby Pierce scored a victory in the inaugural Hawkeye 100 at the speedway earlier this year.  

Davenport Speedway (Aug 25-27): The Series will make a second trip to Iowa in the summer with its return to Davenport Speedway. The World of Outlaws will be in town for another three-night tour on the banks of the Mississippi River on Aug. 25-27. Saturday’s finale will pay $30,000-to-win for the second straight year.

And that’s only up to the end of August. More schedule announcements will be made in the coming months.

The biggest stress point for me is like trying to make the right decisions to make it to the end of that race. It’s really difficult to do, no matter how good of a speedway racer you are. Just trying to make the right decisions there and the right calls. Hopefully end up towards the front there at the end of the day is definitely pretty tough.”
LOOKING AHEAD TO THE ROVAL, WHY DO PEOPLE STILL CONSIDER IT TO BE SUCH A CHALLENGE OR SUCH A WILDCARD SINCE IT’S NOT NECESSARILY A NEW TRACK NOW?“I would just say that it really doesn’t have any room for error. It’s a tough place to get around. Once you start pushing, if you make any mistakes, they tend to bite you pretty hard. I’ve been guilty of that there. Late in final practice a couple of years ago and destroyed a race car. It’s just really easy to get yourself in trouble and overdrive a corner and tear something up. So, I feel like that’s what really makes it a wildcard. You have a lot of mistakes from people that you may not normally see. Maybe similar to how Darlington is easy to tear up a race car. The ROVAL kind of falls into that category.”
YOU AND YOUR NO. 48 TEAM REALLY RESPONDED TO THE PRESSURE OF BEING BELOW THE CUT HEADING INTO BRISTOL AND MAKING YOUR WAY IN. HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU NOW IN THE ROUND OF 12 THAT YOU CAN ADVANCE TO THE ROUND OF EIGHT?“It’s not going to be easy by any means. I feel like last year we had a really great Playoff run. This year we’ve kind of had the opposite of what we had last year. It’s definitely been a little frustrating. But at the same time, our speedway cars are really fast every time we go to a speedway. And we’ve always been pretty good at the ROVAL. I know we have the tools we need to get the job done, and I’m confident we’ll have fast race cars. But I was really confident before we went to Las Vegas as well, and obviously that didn’t work out very well for us. Just got to go make it happen. We’re expected to run better than we’re running right now, and just need to go turn our stuff around and get pointed in the right direction.”
WHAT IS THE MOST UNIQUE FAN EXPERIENCE YOU’VE HAD?“There’s always people giving you stuff or making wanting you to sign weird stuff. The most recent one that sticks out to me isn’t really one of those. I guess I’m like the approachable one to ask to go get somebody else. We were in Richmond and NASCAR had us all corralled for the driver intros and fans kind of surrounded that. Most everybody worked their way inside but a couple of us were standing outside, kind of where the fans were. And this girl kept yelling at me like for a couple of minutes. She wouldn’t stop yelling at me. So, I walked over finally, and she just wanted me to go get Chase Elliott for her. It was kind of funny. I thought that was a good one.”
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN CONTROL AT TALLADEGA AS FAR AS MAKING THE RIGHT DECISIONS AND THE RIGHT CALLS?“The things you can control are your strategy and kind of where you place your car throughout the day and the situations you put yourself in. I don’t think you can win that race riding around in the back all day and just saving it to be there at the end. But you might be able to score decent points that way. So, it’s definitely a tough situation. The end of both Stages get pretty hectic and then the end of the race, I’m sure we’re going to see a ton of wrecks and kind of the normal superspeedway deal that we all go do and tear a bunch of stuff up. It’s going to be difficult to make it through all that and some of it is luck, but some of it is also where you put yourself. So, I’m going to do my best to put myself in the best position I can. I feel like we need to be aggressive all day and go try and win the thing, so that’s what I’m going to try to do.”
YOU ARE RUNNING UNDER A DIFFERENT PACKAGE AT TALLADEGA THIS WEEKEND THAN IN APRIL. YOU HAD A CHANCE TO TRY IT IN DAYTONA. WHAT DID YOU LEARN THAT YOU CAN APPLY TO TALLADEGA?“I think some people thought it was really different. I didn’t really think it was that much different. I just felt like the runs formed a little differently. So, just understanding how the runs work with it; but it’s still a superspeedway race and some of a lot of the same things are going on. Just a little different how some of the aero situations worked out. But at the end of the day, it’s still very similar to what we’ve had.”
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM PRIOR PLAYOFF EXPERIENCES THAT CAN HELP YOU THROUGH IT THIS TIME?“The biggest thing for me is just trying to maximize each and every race and every Stage. You can’t freak out and try any harder because I’m already trying as hard as I can every week. Approaching every race like normal and really just trying to maximize each and every thing. Last year we didn’t change what we were doing that worked. This year we didn’t change what we were doing that hasn’t worked. But just trying to maximize every Stage and every race. You can’t really worry about the points. They kind of are what they are right now. We’re not in a great spot and we’re going to a place that’s a huge wild card. But at the same time, we could be on the good side of the wild card and have other guys get torn up and have an opportunity to win the race. So, we’ve just got to wait and see how it shakes out. If it works out for us, it does. And if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”
NOT THAT TALLADEGA COULD GET ANY MORE WILD, BUT DOES THE FACT THAT YOU GUYS AREN’T USING THESE CARS AGAIN ADD TO PEOPLE SAYING THEY DON’T CARE WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN?“Yeah, I feel like I should just answer that with are you silly? I’m still going to send it. But I don’t know. I don’t think any race car driver in the Cup Series really, other than a few that are in some situations where they are driving for teams that can’t afford to tear stuff up or have their own reasons for not wanting to tear stuff up. Like, nobody goes to a superspeedway race and is like, oh I want to save this car for the next one or anything like that. We’re all putting it all out there, kind of regardless. But yeah, you’re right. These cars don’t have to get fixed. They are going to have whatever afterlife they have (laughs) after we switch to the new car next year. I hadn’t even thought about that but man, we don’t need any more reasons to tear stuff up at superspeedways. So, stop giving us reasons.”
DO YOU HAVE CONFIDENCE? OR DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’RE AT THE MERCY OF WHAT OTHER PEOPLE DO?“I don’t know. I want to sit here and tell you I’m super confident and everything is going to be fine. But I’m really confident that we’re going to have a really fast race car. We always do. The guys do a great job on our superspeedway cars, and we show that each and every year. We’ve had a bunch of Daytona 500 front rows and that comes down to some really fast cars. Not super confident that my 39 best friends are going to make the best decisions all day to put me in a great spot, but at the same time we’re all in the same situation and just go race and do what we can.”

I was in the shop yesterday talking to the guys and they’re always putting the really good details on our superspeedway cars. Brian Pattie (crew chief) is always trying to make sure they’re perfect and fast and ready to go. But I definitely think there’s a thought in the back of our heads that hey, we’re not going to need these cars anymore. We’ve been fortunate enough to make it through some of these speedways lately without major damage, but it still hasn’t been great speedway races for us. We’re either battling for the win or just kind of riding around and waiting for the race to be over. But it definitely could get a little crazy knowing that nobody needs these cars again.”
LOOKING AHEAD, ARE YOU DEFINITELY BACK AT JTG DAUGHERTY RACING NEXT YEAR?“Yes, I’m definitely back at JTG Daugherty Racing in the No. 47 Kroger car, so I’m definitely happy about that. It’s something we have kind of been sitting on for a while just trying to get everything else in place. Obviously, there are a lot of moving parts that go along with race teams and especially transitioning to a whole brand new car and trying to make sure we have everything aligned out there. But Tad (Geschickter, co-owner) and everybody is doing a really good job of that and working on manufacturers things and stuff like that. It’s been a busy few months for our team and we’re continuing to work hard and we’re looking to finish this year off as consistent as we have been. That’s one thing that we’ve been proud of this year is our consistency is better than what it was and we’re looking to build on that the rest of the races.”
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD ABOUT YOUR PLANS FOR NEXT SEASON WITH JTG?“I’m just looking forward to a third season with the team. I felt like this year was kind of like the first year with the organization with the way last year went and the way it was kind of thrown on us and not being able to hang-out with the guys and be in the shop and really spend time with each other. And now, I’m enjoying……we went to the Daytona test with the new car, and I felt like we had a successful test. It’s been fun going to the race shop and helping kind of design the cockpit of the car, where we want things, and just kind of make it custom to what I need and working with everybody in the shop. So, I think next year could be our best year yet, and even my best year in Cup in general. So I’m really looking forward to the opportunity that next year presents with the new car, our great partners at Kroger, and everybody at JTG Daugherty Racing.”
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AT THE NEXT GEN TEST IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AT CHARLOTTE?“I think with it being a road course test, I feel like this car is almost a lot more set up for a road course than our current cars. I’m interested to see how that drives. Obviously, the sequential shifting, I think, will be a big plus. The brakes that are on the race car and the independent rear suspension are a lot of things that I think will help make our road course racing really good. So, I’m interested to see how that dynamic plays out and the way it handles. And also, obviously, after the Daytona test, NASCAR has been looking at trying to reduce the heat inside the race car. We’ve been taking our own measures inside the race car, of things that we can control, and the way we build our pedals and where we have our seat positioned and things like that. So, we’re looking to just continue to collect data. We collected a lot of data at Daytona. I think we ran close to the most laps just trying to not necessarily go fast, but just collect as much data as we can so we can get back to the shop and analyze and process it and continue to close those gaps and answer those questions that we need between the tests that we have coming up. I’m also excited that I get to be the one that drives the car in every single test. I don’t know if every other team and driver will be able to do that, so I think that will be an advantage for us as well.”
DO YOU ENJOY TESTING?“That’s one thing that I used to not really care for. But now that we’re not practicing and we’re not qualifying on the weekends, I just like being in the race cars, especially Daytona tests. Daytona tests are some of those tests that you kind of dreaded going to, but I enjoyed it. I had fun. I felt like it’s a whole new race car and so many things to learn and try to get right. We’re looking forward to working really hard on that and like I said, I’m pumped that I’ll be in the race car for every single one of those tests.”
IS YOUR CONTRACT A ONE-YEAR DEAL OR A MULTI-YEAR DEAL?“We just added a year to what we were doing. Tad is working on the sponsorship side of things and I’m sure we’ll talk beyond that once we get everything kind of lined out and finalized where he wants. But I’m just excited to finally get in this new car. When we first signed at JTG Daugherty Racing, it was supposed to be a year in the old car and a year in the new car and I was really looking forward to that. So, I’m glad that we got to that point and focused on trying to make that car and next season as best as we can.”
YOU WILL BE THE ONLY DRIVER AT JTG NEXT YEAR. HOW DO YOU THINK THAT IS GOING TO GO, AND WHAT THAT PROCESS IS GOING TO BE LIKE WITH NOT HAVING A TEAMMATE? IS THAT GOING TO BE A NEGATIVE IN ANY WAY?“I definitely think it could be a negative on one hand, and then a positive on the other. Obviously when you’re practicing and testing, you can have more ideas and run different things through both cars, it definitely helps kind of speed the process up. But we would also have to share the seat when it comes to testing. So, I feel like what I look for in a race car and what somebody looks for in a race car and the way they drive, is sometimes totally different. So, I feel like we’re going to be able to kind of build around me and at least the set-ups and things like that will be more around what I’m looking for in the race car, and all our focus will be on one car. I feel like that will be a positive thing. I know everybody at JTG Daugherty Racing so far has been all in on the new car and trying to speed the process along and I’m definitely looking forward to 2022.”
YOU WILL BE WEARING THE WHOOP BAND ON SUNDAY. TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK THAT EXPERIENCE WILL BE LIKE FOR THE FANS TO BE ABLE TO SEE THAT TALLADEGA DATA.“Yeah, it’s always cool. I always wear a heart rate monitor in the race car and when I work out during the week. Now, to be able to see that broadcast live on the TV will be really cool. I always look at my data; download it and process it after the race and send it to my trainer and he kind of builds my workout programs based off of the way my heart rate is in the race car and we try to mimic that when we’re in the gym. So, it’ll be cool to be wearing it this weekend and I look forward to working with everybody at Whoop. I know it’s been fun watching, I haven’t watched our races with people wearing it, but I’ve watched the Xfinity Series and those guys wearing it and it’s always a cool extra data point that the fans get to see.”

RACE #31 – TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAYChevrolet drivers from NASCAR’s three national touring series return to the always exciting Talladega Superspeedway where NASCAR’s longest oval will be the host of a Playoff tripleheader. The 188-lap YellaWood 500 on Sunday, October 3, will mark the second event in the three-race set of the Round of 12 for the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) Playoffs. The upcoming race weekend is the second visit for NASCAR’s premier series to the 2.66-mile Alabama venue during the 2021 season. Championship contender William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Axalta Camaro ZL1 1LE, led Team Chevy in the final running order of the April race at the track with a runner-up finish. 
Four Team Chevy drivers are contenders in the Championship battle. The field will be trimmed from 12 drivers to eight following the third and final race of the Round of 12 held on the Charlotte ROVAL on October 10.

Matt Sackman and Rachel Meyer will be piloting both Randy Meyer Racing Top Alcohol Dragsters to conclude the 2021 North Central Region of the NHRA Lucas Oil series this weekend in St. Louis.

“I’m looking forward to driving for Randy Meyer Racing in St Louis with Hangsterfer’s Metalworking Lubricants backing me along with a new partner Sullivan Auctioneers LLC,” Matt said. “Their most recent event was in Charlotte where they ran a 5.10, the weather conditions will be similar so hopefully we can pickup where they left off.”

While this will be Matt’s second time behind the nitro wheel for this year, this race will be Rachel’s final regional race of the 2021 season in her NTK Sensor Specialist dragster. She is currently in the lead of the regional series, 20 points ahead of James Stevens.

Qualifying kicks off on Friday, October 1st at 5pm and will carry on into Saturday with a total of 3 sessions followed by first round of eliminations. Final eliminations will take place on Sunday.

The last time Matt DiBenedetto and the No. 21 Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center team raced at Talladega Superspeedway they won Stage One, led 28 laps including the white-flag lap and finished fifth in the April 25 GEICO 500.

This time around, in Sunday’s YellaWood 500, the strategy and the goals will be a bit different. With the team eliminated from championship contention, there’s less emphasis on earning points and more on putting the No. 21 Mustang in position to race for the win in the closing laps.

DiBenedetto said the Quick Lane team is capable of coming away with a victory if the late-race circumstances play out in their favor.

“We have been in contention to win at the superspeedways countless times now,” DiBenedetto said, adding that being there at the end requires a lot more than just racing luck.

He said that he, spotter Doug Campbell, crew chief Jonathan Hassler and other team members, as well as the entire Ford contingent, put in a lot of hours going over scenarios that are likely to occur at Talladega and coming up with strategies to deal with them.
 
“Doug, myself and the team have really worked hard on our race craft at these places to be there when it counts,” he said. “Luckily we don’t have to race for Stage points and are there to try and take the win!”
 
There will be no qualifying or practice prior to the start of Sunday’s 188-lap race, which will feature Stage breaks at Laps 60 and 120. DiBenedetto will start 15^th, the line-up having been set based on results from Las Vegas Motor Speedway with the 12 championship contenders starting ahead of the rest.
 
The green flag is set to fly at 1 p.m. (2 p.m. Eastern Time), with NBC carrying the live TV broadcast.
 

Australia’s Peter Britten and DIRTVision coverage helping NAPA Super DIRT Week reach an international crowd beyond North America

OSWEGO, NY – Sept. 29, 2021 – Growing up in Australia, Super DIRT Week sounded almost like a myth to Peter Britten.

A 200-lap race around a mile-long track was hard to fathom. In Australia, the Big Block Modifieds – or V8 Dirt Modifieds, as they’re called there – tend to run 20 to 25 lap events around quarter-mile bullrings. Then, Britten made the trip across the pond and finally saw the spectacle for himself.

“When my dad was alive, he really enjoyed coming over and going to Super DIRT Week,” Britten said. “To me now, I haven’t been a New Yorker my whole life, but I’ve lived here for about 10 years now; Super DIRT Week has a very special meaning to me now.

“When I go home (to Australia), I talk about how great it is. I tell everyone, you have to come over and at least see it one time. If you’re a Sprint Car fan you have to go to the Knoxville Nationals. If you’re a Big Block fan, you’ve got to come to Oswego.”

Since making the journey to the United States and joining the Super DIRTcar Series, Britten said the interest in Super DIRT Week is “definitely growing.” Not only has more of his Australian fan base latched on it but some other Aussies have made the trip over – like Sportsman drivers Dale and Chris Corbett – further growing the interest in American Modified racing.

Like Canadian fans, Australians are unfortunately unable to make the trip to Oswego, NY this year due to the pandemic. However, with the addition of premier live DIRTVision coverage to the entire 49th NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week, fans across the world can still watch Racing’s Biggest Party from wherever they are.

Every lap of NAPA Super DIRT Week will be live on DIRTVision throughout the week, including all on-track action at Oswego Speedway (Oct. 6-10), the Super DIRTcar Series Demon 100 at Brewerton Speedway (Tuesday, Oct. 5), the NAPA Super DIRT Week Kickoff Party race at Weedsport Speedway (Wednesday, Oct. 6) and the Hurricane Harvey 75 at Brewerton Speedway (Thursday, Oct. 7).

For Britten, there’s nothing like arriving at NAPA Super DIRT Week in Oswego. Flags of past champions line the streets to the track. Campers fill nearly 1,000 spots around the facility. Thousands of fans create an atmosphere throughout the week he said he doesn’t experience anywhere else.

“I really enjoy being a part of the big event the way it is,” Britten said. “I think that gets me up on the wheel a little bit more. I really hope we can get the ($50,000-to-win Billy Whittaker Cars) 200 win this year. Either way, we’ll give it our best crack and see how it all plays out.”

He came close to the prestigious victory in 2017 but had to settle for second. The next year, he found some redemption by winning the DIRTcar 358 Modified Salute the Troops 150. While still a satisfying victory, it didn’t make up for the lost 200 win from the year prior.

With a solid 2021 Super DIRTcar Series season under his belt – currently third in points with one win – Britten said he has the confidence to make another run at the historic win. It would go a long way for Britten’s career and send a ripple across the seas to Australia, further growing the allure: an Aussie was able to win the unfathomable event.

Weekly racing stars converge on local bullrings for 2021 season sendoff LINCOLN, IL – Sept. 28, 2021 – Twenty-six weeks of racing down, one final weekend to go. It’s time to crown national champions in the 26th annual DIRTcar Fall Nationals. Lincoln Speedway will host the season-end spectacular for the second-straight year this Thu-Sat, Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Six DIRTcar divisions will take to the quarter-mile oval over three nights in the final weekend of the DIRTcar regular season. The on-track action begins with Thursday night Hot Lap sessions for all cars before the first of two full programs Friday night – UMP Modifieds, Pro Late Models, Pro Modifieds and Stock Cars on tap. UMP Modifieds, Pro Late Models and Pro Modifieds will stick around for Saturday’s show, joining the full-size Late Models and Sport Compacts in the season finale. Late Models will race for $3,000-to-win, while the UMP Modifieds see a winner’s share increase to $1,500. DRIVER REGISTRATION The Stock Cars head to Charleston Speedway on Saturday night, joining the Factory Stocks in the track’s annual DIRTcar Street Stock Fall Nationals event, paying $2,000 to the Stock Car Feature winner and $150 to start the race. It all starts with Thursday night’s practice session at Lincoln – don’t miss a moment of the action! The only other Pro Modified race held at Lincoln this year was in the season opener on April 9 – the 2020 Fall Nationals makeup date. Kevin Crowder, of Argenta, IL, scored the win over Kyle Helmick, both of whom are projected to be part of the Pro Modified roster again this weekend. FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME – Newly crowned UMP Modified track champion Ray Bollinger, of Kewanee, IL, comes into the weekend as a favorite with five Feature victories at the track already this year. This is Bollinger’s first career track championship at Lincoln, winning the gold by 62 points over Brian Lynn. Of the 11 events, Bollinger drove his Nutrien Ag Solutions #77 to a top-10 finish in all but one. LITTLE BIG CHAMPION – The Midwest Big Ten Late Model Series has a brand-new champion. Jake Little, of Springfield, IL, bagged his first career championship in the DIRTcar Late Model miniseries by 80 points. This weekend serves as the eighth and final race on the schedule, and with his plentiful Pro Late Model experience at Lincoln this season, Little looks to end his 2021 campaign with a $3,000 check in his pocket as a Fall Nationals winner. EIGHTEEN AND COUNTING – It’s been a season to remember for New Berlin, IL, driver Jose Parga, with 18 DIRTcar Pro Late Model victories since opening weekend in April – the most of all drivers in the nation. No other driver had more than nine. Parga unofficially secured his first DIRTcar national championship by nearly 100 points over the rest of the field, largely credited to his dominance in weekly competition at Lincoln. Sweet currently holds a 120-point lead – down more than 30 points in the last two races – over the Connecticut native, who is going for his first title. He’s one win away from tying Josh Richards for the most Series wins and if he can hold on to his points lead by World Finals, Sheppard will tie Richards for the most Series championships.Another title this year would also be Sheppard’s third consecutive championship, making him the first driver in series history to accomplish that feat.To get another win at The Dirt Track, Sheppard will have to face a plethora of all-star Late Model drivers from across the country. His 2021 championship rival, Chris Madden, has three wins at the track – the last coming in 2019. Last year’s winners Tim McCreadie and Brandon Overton are expected to return for another shot at the prestigious victory. McCreadie, the 2006 Series champion, has one win with the Series this year and Overton has won almost every big race presented to him. He swept the DIRTcar Late Model Dream events at Eldora Speedway and won the 51st World 100 at the “Big E.” He also won the Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway in July. Super DIRTcar SeriesSeven-time Super DIRTcar Series champion Brett Hearn, a legend of the sport, held the title of most Series championships for five years before Matt Sheppard tied him at the Dirt Track at Charlotte in 2018. Matt DiBenedetto’s No. 21 Suicide Prevention Lifeline Mustang was fast from start to finish of Sunday’s South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and the team came home with a 12^th-place finish despite a mid-race setback due to the way a pit-stop cycle played out.

DiBenedetto started 14^th and drove into the top five within the first three laps. He was running fifth when the Competition Caution flag flew after 26 laps had been completed.

He continued to run in the top five and top 10 throughout the first Stage and ended that 80-lap segment in ninth place, earning two Stage points.

In the second Stage, the No. 21 team was again running in the top 10 but their pit strategy didn’t work out when the Stage ended with a 63-lap green-flag. The Suicide Prevention Lifeline team was forced to stop late in the run under the green flag, and that left them in 23^rd place, one lap behind the leaders.

Taking the wave-around during the Stage break put DiBenedetto back on the lead lap but at the back of the pack to start the final Stage. That entire segment ran without a yellow flag, taking away any opportunity to use strategy to jump up in the running order.

Still, DiBenedetto was able to remain on the lead lap and drive his way to 12^th place at the finish.
 
“Obviously we had a much better car than that,” he said. “We were able to drive away from the leaders at the end.
 
“We had to come from the back at the start of the final Stage, and there were no cautions to re-bunch the field and get back to where we deserved to be.
 
“We had a top-five car.”
 
Still, he said he was proud to be able to spend the weekend raising awareness about suicide and ways to try to help those contemplating taking their own lives. The team’s regular sponsors, led by Motorcraft and Quick Lane, yielded their logos on the No. 21 Mustang to the suicide prevention effort and to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number, which is 1-800-273 TALK (8255).
 
“The numbers of people either contemplating suicide or taking their own lives are staggering,” DiBenedetto said. “Being able to talk about suicide and mental health was much bigger than driving the race car.”
 
DiBenedetto and the No. 21 team remain 18^th in the points standings heading into next Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
