(3/29/23 – Jim Allen) … The Northern Auto Racing Club (NARC) announced its associate sponsorship package for the 2023 sprint car season. The package incorporates the involvement of 29 different companies, providing a variety of products and services ranging from financial advisors and bacon, to property management and racing components.  Overall, the NARC sprint cars are competing for over $800,000 in purse money this season, plus these partnerships, which are worth another $145,000 in cash and product during thee 23-race campaign.

Heading the list are Hoosier Racing Tires, Floracing.com, and NAPA Auto Parts, who are collectively providing championship point fund support.  All but one of NARC’s events are live-streamed on Floracing this season.

Automotive Racing Products (ARP) is once again the sponsor of the ARP Fast Time award.  They are paying $100 to the quickest car team at every event.

The four heat races, which each pay $100 to the winner are sponsored by Brown & Miller Racing Solutions (BMRS), Kimo’s Tropical Car Wash, Beacon Wealth Strategies-Raymond James, and Kaeding Performance.  Kimo’s Tropical Car Wash is kicking in another $500 to the driver who wins the most heat races this season.

Starr Property Management is the official fan engagement sponsor.  Their unique involvement allows NARC to provide 1000’s of fan giveaways of the course of the season.  These types of promotions continue to build brand recognition and fan loyalty.  These promotions include logoed thunder-sticks, foam fingers, t-shirts, and toy cars.  Scelzi Enterprises is a cash contributor for the NARC frisbee throw promotion.

The ever popular Sunnyvalley “Powered by Bacon” trophy dash is again a series staple thanks to the continued relationship with Sunnyvalley Smoked Meats.  The winner of the dash pockets $100, plus takes home nine-pounds of flash-frozen thick cut Sunnyvalley bacon.  In addition, a lucky fan takes home a nine-pound cooler of bacon.

Come feature event time, the financial rewards keep coming.  The tenth place finisher in every NARC A-Main event this season will pocket a $50 check courtesy of D & D Roofing (David & Dianne Durica, Orangevale, CA.)

Mettec Titanium is sponsoring the Mettec Lap Leader award. It pays $10 to the team for each lap lead in every NARC headliner this season.  Leading all 30-laps in the A-Main is now worth an extra $300.  Mettec also sponsors the “low pill” draw and awards $100 worth of their titanium product to the driver who pulls the lowest number in the pill draw.

Williams Roofing (Fremont, CA) has signed on as the official Hardcharger Award sponsor.  The Williams Roofing Hardcharger Award will pay $150 to the driver who passes/advances the most cars from their original starting position in every NARC feature event.  They are also kicking in a $1000 bonus to the driver who can pass the most cars this season.

Johnstone Supply will present the 2023 NARC Rookie of the Year with a check for $1250 at the November 5th NARC Champion Celebration at the Brookside Country Club.

FARMER CITY, IL – March 28, 2023 – After much discussion involving World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series, and Farmer City Raceway officials, along with guidance from Precision Weather Service, an extremely difficult decision has been made to cancel this weekend’s Illini 100. 

Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected from the early hours on Friday to the early hours on Saturday, along with dropping temperatures and dangerously strong winds, will have a negative impact on the drivers’ ability to compete and the fans’ overall experience at the event. With the total precipitation officials expect on Friday, the facility would be difficult to access. 

Even with an at-best optimistic forecast Saturday, the conditions left behind by the expected weather system makes the event impractical for all involved. Unfortunately, with the national and regional event schedules increasing as Spring advances, the event will not fit into the 2023 calendar and will not be made up. 

Those who purchased a ticket in advance to this weekend’s events at Farmer City Raceway will receive a face value credit to their MyDirtTickets.com account to be used towards any World of Outlaws event available at WorldofOutlaws.com/tix. Those credits are good for two years.

Prepares to Move from Top Alcohol to Top Fuel in 2024

BROWNSBURG, Indiana (March 28, 2023) – Jasmine Salinas made her first launches behind the wheel of a nitro-powered Top Fuel dragster on Monday afternoon at the Wildhorse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. The 31-year-old daughter of NHRA Drag Racing Top Fuel driver, Mike Salinas will work to obtain her NHRA Top Fuel license as she prepares to compete full time beginning in 2024.

During Monday’s test session, Salinas made a total of three launches and made it successfully to the 330-foot mark behind the wheel of one of the race team’s Top Fuel dragsters. Salinas will continue her testing at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in April where she intends to make her first full passes. 

Salinas has competed in the Top Alcohol Dragster ranks since 2019 and has earned three victories in her career. She is competing for the 2023 championship in the series while spending as much time as possible testing the Top Fuel Dragster in preparation for 2024.

Salinas began racing at the age of 15 in the Junior Dragster division. After college, Salinas began working for her family’s Top Fuel team, Scrappers Racing, as a Floater and Supercharger Assistant. She currently serves as the teams’ General Manager and handles all day-to-day operations of the team.

What was your day like leading up to strapping into the Top Fuel dragster?

“When I woke up, I was very shocked because I thought I wasn’t going to sleep and be sick to my stomach like I was going into Pomona for the finals. I remember Pomona when we were going into Saturday night before Sunday’s finals. I was up at 3am crying hysterically because I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this. I don’t know if I’m ready for a championship.’ I was just so stressed out about it.”

“But in comparison to this time around, I think the difference was that there were no expectations. For me, there nobody that had put any expectations on me. That I have to make so many passes. I have to go this far. I didn’t put any expectations on myself except to just show up and hit the throttle. And just taking all of that pressure off of me, I was just really grateful and appreciative that I have this opportunity to take it at my own pace. So my stress levels when I woke up this morning, I was feeling great. And I was so excited. And it wasn’t until I was basically getting suited up where I was like, ‘Okay, I’m actually pretty stressed right now. I’m a little anxious and nervous.’ And I was sitting in my car and I was like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to pretend I’m in my A-Fuel (Top Alcohol) car.’ I kept noticing I was doing that throughout the day, just pretending I was in my a A-Fuel car. And there’s definitely some huge things that were very different. But after I got my first pass out of the way, it was a very short launch because we’re still adjusting some things with my helmet and literally only went 100 feet. And then the second time I went past the 330 (foot) mark and I was like, ‘God, this is incredible.’ I understand, I’m barely going anywhere, and I’m already hooked and it’s also great because I was kind of expecting the absolute worst.”

“Honestly, I was trying to mentally prepare myself and based off everything that I’ve heard from other people’s experiences. I was compiling all the worst-case scenarios into one pass. Things like, I’m going to black out and everything’s going to get blurry. I’m going to have no idea where I’m at on the track and it’s just being prepared for the worst. And I usually try to be very positive, but for some reason was trying to like to be so prepared for anything because I just didn’t know what to expect. And I think that was the thing that was the scariest is just not knowing what to expect and not knowing how I am going to react to this experience that’s so unique. But then knowing that everybody else that I’ve talked to about their journeys leading up to stepping on the gas in a Top Fuel car has been very different than others. It’s just been interesting to see, I guess, where I’m at in comparison to all those other stories that I’ve heard so far.”

What was your initial reaction when you finished your first launch and what was the reaction of your parents throughout this initial experience?

“My initial reaction was, ‘I know I didn’t even make a full pull and the power of these cars is absolutely incredible.’ And at that moment, right there is where I realized I want to spend this entire year taking my time because it gave me even more respect for these cars and the power that they have. I want to respect it so much and take my time with it because the horsepower and how fast it was. I’ve 100 percent fallen in love with it and I’m ruined, and I’ll be even more ruined when I make my first full pass.”

“And then my dad, he was a hot mess all day. I think they even had to ask him to like leave the pit because he was trying to help with everything to the point where I was like, ‘You’re not being helpful so just go stand over there and look at something else.’ And then my Mom I think was crying all day long. And then she was like, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? You know, you could step out any time.’ But she stayed for all my rides. And it was special because, you know, my routine from when I’m getting suited up and everything, I always hug my mom before I get in my race car. And she was there even for these runs. So, nothing changed. And it felt like I was still doing everything that I’ve been used to with my racing, and I loved it.”

Racing, music, bull riding, beer expo, lantern release highlight 10-days of excitement

ENNIS, TX (March 28, 2023) — The return of the Stampede of Speed, a ten-day festival of music, drag racing and amazing fan experiences in advance of the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals, was officially announced today with the release of the special event schedule on www.stampedeofspeed.com. Tickets for one of the biggest motorsports events in the country go on sale this Friday, March 31, for the mega-event hosted at Texas Motorplex, the multi-use facility located just 35 minutes from Dallas and Fort Worth, which will feature non-racing activities, concerts, educational, media and business events for fans and sponsors from across the country.

This ticketed event will feature some of the wildest race cars on the planet as they try and set speed records and breathe fire as they roar down the track. Saturday, October 7 – Stars Over Texas Music Fest

This two-day country music festival will kick off the weekend filling the sky with great tunes and nostalgia. Between acts the track will host a special match race to entertain fans. The show will end with a massive firework display.

The second day of the festival will feature Jambo’s BBQ contest and music as the theme of the day with some of the best grill masters showing off their tasty delicacies paired with some refreshing cold beer from Metroplex area breweries. Bull Riding will fire up the crowd leading into a full slate of country stars that will be announced on April 14 to entertain the crowd from the late afternoon into the evening. Monday, October 9 – Celebrity Media Race and Texas Fall Nationals Fan Warm-Up

Media personalities and a variety of local celebrities will take to the track during this invitation-only event designed to give VIPS a unique experience. In the afternoon 500 fans will have the chance to drive their car or truck down the track as part of the Texas Fall Nationals Fan Warm-up to benefit the Drive to Feed with proceeds benefiting the Ennis and Waxahachie food banks.

Teams will only have two chances to make the show or be relegated to spectator status so tension will be high and the competition jumps to a new level as teams vying to be one of the lucky 16. Sunday, October 15 – NHRA Texas Fall Nationals Race Day

Following a massive opening ceremony the top drag racers from around the country will be racing to get one step closer to a world championship at the only playoff race in the state of Texas. Sebastien Bourdais, co-driver with Renger van der Zande of the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R in the Grand Touring Prototype class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, met with the media via Zoom conference to preview the April 14-15 race in Long Beach, California.  Bourdais and van der Zande will look to successfully defend their race win on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit. Cadillac has won every IMSA prototype race at Long Beach since the start of the DPi era in 2017. Q&A with Bourdais transcript:

Give us your recollections of last year’s eventful race and what you and Renger will try to do to repeat your win.“I have great memories of Long Beach; it’s a place that has been pretty good to me in the past and that I’ve always enjoyed racing at. It was a pretty interesting weekend. It started a bit off in the first practice but then John (Hennek) gave us an awesome car from second practice onward, and I had the best time of the year. The car was just amazing. Our Cadillac DPi was on rails and it started off in qualifying with a new track record and then it was a very unorthodox way to win the race. Just a little mishap going down the side I got caught out a little bit with a GT going into the hairpin and then I figured out too late that the DPi wasn’t the radius maker as the IndyCar was used to and I found myself running out of room and stuffed it in the exit wall. The, obviously, you had to quick reverse and it was early in the race, so had to overcome a 20-second deficit or something like that and pass every single car to make it back to the lead. Nevertheless, that’s how good the car was that day and I managed to pull the win, which was amazing. Just a great weekend and great day for Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing.”What have you learned in the two races how the GTP cars race each other?“It’s a very dynamic interaction because everybody is still working pretty hard on the cars and the BoP is evolving a little bit. I don’t know if there is any change for Long Beach. On our side, there was a nice step up in performance from Daytona to Sebring, which made us feel a bit racy. I don’t know how good we would have been at the end of the race because obviously we were not part of it. But I think Long Beach is quite hard to pass, so track position will be key and a strong qualifying. As far as interaction between the cars, I think it’s been actually a little harder to really follow closely. Those cars seem to rely a lot on the very little downforce that they have, which kind of surprised me a little bit. But we’ve still seen some passes and good shows, so I think it should still be pretty fun to go around the streets.” Will the Cadillac edge on the streets courses shrink a little bit?“Obviously, 2023 is a big reset. We were very strong all day long in Sebring, but it seemed like both the Porsche and the Acura at the end of the race were better. Our car seemed to be coming alive mid-stint onwards. And it translates pretty well from Sebring to Long Beach. The Cadillac was always labeled as the car to beat at Sebring and street courses. It’s a car that wasn’t super ride-height sensitive. And now we’re seeing cars of a different generation that seem to be conceptually closer together and I don’t think we’ll see the road course monster against the street course monster, where they kind of end of being on completely different spectrums, which made it very difficult for the series to balance as far as performance. I think it will be more open everywhere, and I just hope we’re on the right side of the fence at every event.” Do you have to be more careful with car-to-car contact. Can you race like you did previously?“I think it’s pretty similar to what it used to be. We don’t have much experience knowing what the car can withstand as far as side-to-side contact. You take maybe less risk that flicks and appendixes fly off the car because there are less of them around the GTPs. As far as suspension, I’d say it’s at least as strong as the DPi. There really wasn’t a strong emphasis on putting the ultimate weapon on the tracks since the weight of the car is quite high. I think it’s quite the strong car.” Is the Long Beach hairpin the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the track?“The hairpin is tricky and it’s the slowest corner of the season, so it definitely is its own animal. But when I think about Long Beach I think about Turn 1 more than the hairpin. That’s the place that has the highest approach speed, it’s a tricky braking zone over concrete slabs, it’s bumpy and pretty quick and the room for errors is tiny. I think more about Turn 1 than I do about the hairpin.”

Nevertheless, that’s how good the car was that day and I managed to pull the win, which was amazing. Just a great weekend and great day for Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing.”What have you learned in the two races how the GTP cars race each other?“It’s a very dynamic interaction because everybody is still working pretty hard on the cars and the BoP is evolving a little bit. I don’t know if there is any change for Long Beach. On our side, there was a nice step up in performance from Daytona to Sebring, which made us feel a bit racy. I don’t know how good we would have been at the end of the race because obviously we were not part of it. But I think Long Beach is quite hard to pass, so track position will be key and a strong qualifying. As far as interaction between the cars, I think it’s been actually a little harder to really follow closely. Those cars seem to rely a lot on the very little downforce that they have, which kind of surprised me a little bit. But we’ve still seen some passes and good shows, so I think it should still be pretty fun to go around the streets.” Will the Cadillac edge on the streets courses shrink a little bit?“Obviously, 2023 is a big reset. We were very strong all day long in Sebring, but it seemed like both the Porsche and the Acura at the end of the race were better. Our car seemed to be coming alive mid-stint onwards. And it translates pretty well from Sebring to Long Beach. The Cadillac was always labeled as the car to beat at Sebring and street courses. It’s a car that wasn’t super ride-height sensitive. And now we’re seeing cars of a different generation that seem to be conceptually closer together and I don’t think we’ll see the road course monster against the street course monster, where they kind of end of being on completely different spectrums, which made it very difficult for the series to balance as far as performance. I think it will be more open everywhere, and I just hope we’re on the right side of the fence at every event.” Do you have to be more careful with car-to-car contact. Can you race like you did previously?“I think it’s pretty similar to what it used to be. We don’t have much experience knowing what the car can withstand as far as side-to-side contact. You take maybe less risk that flicks and appendixes fly off the car because there are less of them around the GTPs. As far as suspension, I’d say it’s at least as strong as the DPi. There really wasn’t a strong emphasis on putting the ultimate weapon on the tracks since the weight of the car is quite high. I think it’s quite the strong car.” Is the Long Beach hairpin the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the track?“The hairpin is tricky and it’s the slowest corner of the season, so it definitely is its own animal. But when I think about Long Beach I think about Turn 1 more than the hairpin. That’s the place that has the highest approach speed, it’s a tricky braking zone over concrete slabs, it’s bumpy and pretty quick and the room for errors is tiny. I think more about Turn 1 than I do about the hairpin.”

The Hanover, PA native aims to start another one by returning to the winner’s circle this weekend.On top of his trio of wins, Schuchart has proven to be one of the most consistent forces at Devil’s Bowl with seven top-five finishes in 11 Feature starts including five podiums. “It’s a homecoming for me to be in Pomona, even better this year since we won the final race of the ‘22 season here just a few months ago,” says Cruz who grew up in nearby Chino and had his career-best ET and speed here last year. “John and the crew studied the electrical components and switched out the parts that needed to be replaced before we hit the track this Friday. We’ve won the Winternationals twice and the plan is to make it a third time this weekend.”

(3/28/23) … Stockton, California- As the NARC 410 Sprint Series gets set for the 2023 season opener at Stockton Dirt Track, here is some numbers to look at heading into the Asparagus Cup. First, this is the third straight year that the tour has opened its campaign and the second consecutive year that NARC has been a part of the Asparagus Cup.

The NARC 410 Sprint Series began visiting the Stockton Dirt Track in 2013. Thirteen drivers have tamed the field in the previous twenty-three visits, with Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi having the most success at three wins. Eight drivers have amassed two victories, while only four are one-time winners.

Two drivers earned their first NARC 410 Sprint Series triumphs at the Stockton DT. Dominic Scelzi did it on August 3rd, 2013, while Sean Watts accomplished the same feat on June 22nd, 2019. It is the only series win for the Atwater native of Watts. Something noteworthy is that Clovis teenager Corey Day, on November 6th, 2021, and Shane Golobic from Fremont, on November 2nd, 2014, achieved their second career wins with NARC.

In addition to Scelzi leading the all-time Stockton NARC win list, he is also in the upper echelon of some other categories. Dominic ties for second in podiums (7) and is part of a three-way tie for most Top 5s (9) when NARC has competed at Stockton. He is situated fourth in all-time starts (17) and has an average finish of 7.29.

2021 and 2022 winner D.J. Netto may be one win off the all-time Stockton NARC win list, but he leads in four other categories. The Hanford driver has the most podiums (9), Top 5s (11), Top 10s (18), and Starts (22). He also boasts an average finish of 6.13, the third-best on the list.

Tim Kaeding has the best average finish at the facility, scoring 4.69 from thirteen starts. The Campbell chauffeur procured wins in 2016 and 2019 and sits tied second on the all-time Stockton NARC list for podiums (7) with Scelzi and a three-way tie in Top 5s (9).

In addition to Golobic’s second career NARC victory in 2014, he also parked it in victory lane in November of 2019. Shane is fourth on the average finish table with a 6.56 from eleven starts. Shane is tied for third in Stockton NARC Top 5s (9) with Dominic Scelzi and TK. He is also level with Mitchell Faccinto for third in the Top 10 (14) category list. The same two pilots are currently fifth on the all-time starts list (16) when the series rolled into “California’s Sunrise Seaport”.

Bud Kaeding is another notable Stockton performer. Earning victories in 2016 and 2019, the Campbell driver is second on the all-time Stockton NARC list in Top 5s (10), Top 10s (16), and starts (21). His average finish is 7.33.

Amazingly, no driver has been able to win consecutively at Stockton.  Entering the April 1^st event, the current track record is 12.543 by Donny Schatz on September 13^th, 2019. 106 competitors have taken a green flag at the Stockton Dirt Track in NARC competition.

With all that information, race teams, fans, and series personal are excited to finally kick of the 2023 season.  We can not wait for everyone to join us for what no doubt will be an incredible night of racing. Twin 30-lap, $4,000-to-win events on deck Friday-Saturday with POWRi co-sanction

CONCORD, NC – March 27, 2023 – On the heels of a successful opening weekend in Illinois, the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota heads back to the Land of Lincoln to contest the third and fourth races on the 2023 schedule this weekend in its debut at Farmer City Raceway.

Located along Interstate 74 in central Illinois, Farmer City Raceway will host its first-ever national Midget series event Friday and Saturday, March 31-April 1, featuring a 30-lap, $4,000-to-win main event each night. The POWRi National Midget League will join the Xtreme Outlaws in the first of 13 co-sanctioned events on the schedule.

The 1/4-mile, black dirt bullring also hosts the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series each night as part of the track’s annual Illini 100 event. DIRTcar Pro Late Models will join the card Friday night while the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds are on tap for Saturday.

Here are the drivers to watch for and the storylines to follow this weekend:

GIRL POWER – Jade Avedisian comes into Farmer City as the most recent Toyota Feature winner and the current Series points leader by 30 over second-place Kyle Jones in pursuit of her first national Midget championship.

The 16-year-old Californian is coming off a resilient weekend racing with POWRi in Oklahoma, coming home ninth after starting 18th and having to restart from the tail after a spin-out early in the 40-lap Feature. She rebounded quickly, driving through the field back to finish as the only Keith Kunz Motorsports driver inside the top-10.

Farmer City’s 1/4-mile size could play right into Avedisian’s hand, as all three of her Series victories have come on tracks of that size or smaller. Her first win last summer at Jacksonville Speedway – another black-dirt Illinois bullring of the same size – is shaped and banked similar to Farmer City.

STRONG START – Kyle Jones carries the momentum of one top-10 and one podium finish in Series competition into this weekend. Also taking his Chili Bowl Nationals A-Main appearance into account, Jones is off to one of the best starts of his Midget racing career with Trifecta Motorsports.

Jones, 29, of Kennedale, TX, currently sits second in the Series points standings – 30 back of leader Avedisian. This past weekend, Jones also competed in the POWRi event at Port City Raceway and chalked-up an eighth-place finish with 37 cars in the pit area.

Though Farmer City isn’t the size of Port City, Jones has reason to be confident. His three best Series finishes came on tracks 1/4-mile or smaller (Davenport ’22 – 3rd [1/4-mile]; Du Quoin ’23 – third [1/6-mile]; Port City ’22 – fourth [1/8-mile]).

FIGHTING ILLINI – Zach Daum’s first weekend out with his new King Chassis and self-built team in Du Quoin two weeks ago had a solid start, notching a top-five on Friday before an early retirement to the infield in Saturday’s main event broke his stride.

Like many others on the list, Daum, the 32-year-old defending Series champion from Pocahontas, IL, also made the trip out to the Sooner State to race with POWRi last weekend and made the one-day affair count, bagging a third-place run while piloting a second entry for Trifecta Motorsports.

He’ll be back behind the wheel of his own operation this weekend, aiming for his first Series victory since October.

TRACK TIME – While Farmer City has never hosted a national Midget event, there is at least one driver in the field with laps around the track in a Midget. Chase McDermand competed in the only two known Midget events held at Farmer City in July 2016 – a pair of USAC D2 Midget races – and even led laps in the second Feature.

McDermand, the 22-year-old Mounce/Stout Motorsports pilot from Springfield, IL, is coming off an up-and-down opening weekend in Du Quoin. After failing to qualify for the first Feature of the season on Friday, he and the team bounced back on Saturday, driving from 12th on the starting grid all the way to second by the checkers to collect the Hard Charger honors.

This past weekend, McDermand temporarily vacated his seat while young Kansan Jace Park took over the reins racing with POWRi in Oklahoma, where he led most of the 40-lapper before Daison Pursley passed him for the win in the final corner.

HOME COOKING – The list of home state Midget talent continues to expand with the addition of Jake Neuman to the projected roster.

Neuman, the 2020 POWRi National Midget League champion from New Berlin, IL, made only one start with the Series last year but made it count, bagging a fifth-place finish at Jacksonville Speedway.

He’s projected to be in the field for a second career appearance this weekend, representing POWRi’s best as they clash with the Xtreme Outlaws’ best in a battle for Midwest Midget racing supremacy.

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (March 27, 2023) – Dominic Scelzi will do double duty this Saturday at the Stockton Dirt Track.

Scelzi will pilot his family owned No. 41s during the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series portion of the 4^th annual Asparagus Cup. Additionally, he will be behind the wheel of Chuck Crouse’s No. 20 sprint car during the Sprint Car Challenge Tour action that evening.

“I’m just excited to get going,” Scelzi said. “We’ve had a lot of rain in the region lately so hopefully the weather cooperates and the track can be racy. It’ll be a busy night running in two classes for two teams. I’m looking forward to it.”

Scelzi has captured the NARC championship each of the last two years and returns in search of becoming the first driver since Brent Kaeding (in 2001) to earn at least three straight titles. The only other driver in series history to accomplish that feat was Bill Sullivan (in 1966).

Saturday will mark the first of a handful of planned races in the Crouse No. 20 this season.

“I want to thank Chuck and his team for the opportunity,” Scelzi said. “The goal is to be competitive from the first time we hit the track and hopefully that leads to success at the end of the night.”

Stockton Dirt Track has been a good track for Scelzi during his career. He has a handful of feature triumphs and recorded a trio of podiums at the dirt oval each of the last two years, including a victory in 2021.

FARMER CITY, IL– March 27, 2023 – For the first time in 2023, the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models will rumble into the Midwest for the highly anticipated Illini 100 at Farmer City Raceway.  

The 1/4-mile bullring will host the Series for three nights of action, with a total weekend purse of $136,000.  

A practice session kicks off Illini 100 weekend on Thursday, March 30, before the racing starts on Friday, March 31, with a 30-lap sprint paying $8,000-to-win. More money is on the line on Saturday, April 1, when the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models return for a 70-lap, $25,000-to-win finale. 

The Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota will join the World of Outlaws all weekend, along with the DIRTcar Pro Late Models on Friday and DIRTcar Modifieds on Saturday.

Here are the top storylines to keep an eye on entering the weekend:

A Chance to Close: Heading into Farmer City, Chris Madden leads the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models standings by 14 points over Brian Shirley.  

For Shirley, it’s a chance to close that gap at a track he’s familiar with. 

The Chatham, IL driver has two CASE Feature wins at the 1/4-mile facility, both coming in the Illini 100 preliminary Feature (2017, 2019). 

A win for “Squirrel” would be his seventh Series win and first since 2019. 

Madden has yet to find Victory Lane at Farmer City but scored a fourth-place finish during the event’s finale in 2021. 

Track of Champions: The World of Outlaws CASE Late Models have raced 18 times at Farmer City in its 21-season history. Series champions have won 11 of those 18 races. 

Three-time Series champion Billy Moyer has more wins at Farmer City than any other driver with 4 (’06, ’08, ’10, ’13), followed by New Berlin, IL’s Brandon Sheppard with three (’15, ’17, ’19). 

Josh Richards scored both of his wins in 2016, while Scott Bloomquist (‘15) and Shane Clanton (‘09) found Victory Lane once. 

Sheppard, Clanton, and defending Series champion Dennis Erb Jr., from Carpentersville, IL, could add to that total this weekend if they grab their first World of Outlaws checkered flag of 2023. 

Operating at Home: Farmer City Raceway is a home game for defending Illini 100 champion Bobby Pierce. 

The Oakwood, IL driver won the 2021 edition of the event with an epic slide job on Cade Dillard in the race’s closing laps. It was also his first career World of Outlaws win. 

It was the “Smooth Operator’s” first career Series victory—one he celebrated with family and friends.  

Pierce already has a World of Outlaws win in 2023, passing Brandon Overton on the last lap at Volusia Speedway Park in February. 

A win this weekend would be his sixth career Series triumph. 

Defending the Prairie State: While many World of Outlaws CASE Late Model drivers call Illinois home, they must contend with a strong regional presence throughout the weekend. 

Mike Spatola, from Manhattan, IL, scored his first career Series win at the 2021 Illini 100, and El Paso, IL driver Ryan Unzicker finished second. They’ll both be back in action, hoping to replicate that success. 

Other drivers to watch this weekend are Jason Feger, who bested the World of Outlaws at Davenport last year, and two-time Farmer City winner Shannon Babb, from Moweaqua, IL. 

A driver from Illinois has won nine of the 18 Series races at Farmer City. 

Looking to Strike: While Tanner English didn’t get off to the start he hoped for at Volusia, he returns to a type of track where he’s had past success. 

The Benton, KY driver finished fourth in the Illini 100 opener in 2021.  

However, it’s not just Farmer City that’s been good to the reigning Series Rookie of the Year.  

In eight races on 1/4-mile tracks in 2022, English scored two wins, six top fives, and never finished outside the top 10. 

A win for English this weekend would be his fourth career Series victory. 

Getting Xtreme: The World of Outlaws CASE Late Models will be joined by the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota at this weekend’s Illini 100.  

It’s only the fourth and fifth time the two Series have raced at the same track on the same night after meeting up at Jacksonville and Davenport in 2022. On those nights, one of the two Series had a first-time winner. 

Jade Avedisian scored her first Xtreme Outlaw Series win at Jacksonville, while Davenport produced first-time winners for each Series. 

English swept the Friday and Saturday portion of the event in the Late Models, while Chase McDermand and Bryant Wiedeman each grabbed their first checkered flag with the Xtreme Outlaw Series.

Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team overcame the loss of first gear early in Sunday’s EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, and came away with a 22^nd-place finish.

Burton started Sunday’s scheduled 68-lap race from 16^th place, but lost first gear on a pit stop with two of 15 laps remaining in the opening Stage.

The loss of the lowest gear meant Burton couldn’t be as aggressive on restarts and in negotiating the slow-speed corners on the 3.41-mile, 20-turn race course. 
 
He finished the first Stage in 34^th place and the second 15-lap Stage in 28^th.
 
Crew chief Brian Wilson elected to stretch the fuel in the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang before making the second stop of the day at Lap 39.
 
A caution flag flew just after the stop. As other drivers made their pit stops, Burton advanced to the front row for the subsequent restart with 25 laps left to run.
 
Without low gear he fell back and was running 28th when a caution flag flew four laps shy of the checkered flag.
 
Wilson brought the No. 21 Mustang to pit road for fresh tires and fuel.
  
Dodging wrecks ahead of him while being as aggressive as he could under the circumstances, Burton gained three spots on the first attempt at a green-white-checkered-flag finish. He continued his move forward over the final two Overtime runs, gaining three more positions and taking the checkered flag in 22^nd place.
 
Burton and the No. 21 team now head to Richmond Raceway for next Sunday’s 400-lapper on the three-quarter-mile oval.

 

JOSH HART TURNS ATTENTION TO WINTERNATIONALS

CHANDLER, AZ (March 26, 2023) — Today at the final NHRA Arizona Nationals 2023 Pep Boys Top Fuel Allstar Callout winner Josh Hart was looking to add another historic win to his ledger. Racing the R+L Carriers Top Fuel dragster in the desert for just the second time in his career Hart and his Ron Douglas tuned 12,000-horsepower Top Fuel dragster rolled into race day as the No. 12 qualifier. Last year Hart raced to the semifinals from the No. 8 position outrunning Leah Pruett and Rob Passey before dropping a close race to veteran Clay Millican.

After two days of qualifying that saw Hart and his team battle tough track conditions that befuddled all the nitro teams Friday and Saturday he drew reigning Top Fuel champion Brittany Force in the first round. Hart held a 4-6 career head-to-head record with Force and was looking to close the gap with a win in the first round.

Both drivers staged and they each leapt off the starting line with Force moving smoothly off the line and Hart overpowering the track almost immediately. It was an issue the team had been battling for the previous two days. Force posted the quickest run of the weekend at over 336 mph. After his quick exit Hart reflected on how the team will correct the issue and move forward at the next race.

“We are creating so much power off the starting line we just overpowered the track,” said Josh Hart. “We are working on fixing that and I think (crew chief) Ron Douglas will get it figured out by next weekend. I am glad I am getting back in this R+L Carriers Top Fuel dragster in a few days.”

Hart will put the Arizona Nationals behind himself and turn his attention to the historic Winternationals at In-N-Out Dragway at Pomona which will get underway on Friday. Last season in his two appearances at the track located in beautiful Southern California, Hart raced to the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.

“I wish the Winternationals was starting tomorrow,” said Hart. “This is a long season and I have a great team. We will be ready for the Winternationals.”

BUDDY HULL KNOCKS OFF RUST AT ARIZONA NATIONALS

CHANDLER, AZ (March 26, 2023) — The final running of the NHRA Arizona Nationals was Buddy Hull and his Methanol Moonshine Top Fuel dragster’s first race of the season. The up and coming driver rolled into Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park looking to give his new crew chief and new team some experience and also feel the rush of racing an 12,000-horsepower Top Fuel dragster at the highest level of the NHRA. With the backing of new sponsor Methanol Moonshine as well as Renegade Fuels, Go Lithium, and local backing from Camelback Ford and Chompie’s restaurant Hull and his team made three solid runs in qualifying and entered race day as the No. 13 qualifier.

“We got a lot of things out of the way that we needed to get out of the way to move forward and we got some data from the car and (crew chief) Mike Guger knocked the dust off,” said Hull. “He hasn’t been out here for a few years so for Mike to get out here and start looking at the computer again, turn the knobs and getting comfortable with the car was a huge deal. For all the crew guys it’s the first time we’ve been to the track this year together and they had to get their hands back on the car and get back into rhythm as well. This race really did a great job of preparing us for Las Vegas and we’re excited to get there.”

In the final qualifying session Hull destroyed an engine block when he dropped a cylinder on his last run. The destruction forced Hull to go deep into his parts inventory and work well into the night to get ready for a first round race with veteran Leah Pruett from Tony Stewart Racing. The team reassembled the race car and before the race today they realized they needed some additional parts. Luckily, some of their competitors stepped up to support the team.

“We would not have made it to the starting line if the Parts Plus guys, Jim Oberhofer and Clay Millican wouldn’t have allowed us to borrow an injector hat,” said Hull. “We didn’t realize until we fired the car this morning that our injector hat had a crack in it from yesterday’s explosion. Without them we wouldn’t have made it to the start of it. (Funny Car driver and team owner) Chad Green, brought over a valve cover so between all those guys we were able to make it to the starting line.”

In the first round Hull uncharacteristically redlit versus Pruett handing her an easy round win. It was the first time Hull “double stepped” his race car in competition. The mental mistake was something Hull admitted he had seen other drivers experience but never himself.

“I knew the lights were a little long here once you got staged and that is no excuse,” said Hull. “I staged and then had to wait like everybody and my foot just decided to go and my head was saying ‘Stop!’ but it was too late. This was the first race and I will be ready to get back in this Methanol Moonshine Top Fuel dragster in a couple weeks in Las Vegas.”

Hull will be racing a limited schedule but feels that the level of support and acceptance he has already received is critical to his team’s continued success. The team will be back in action at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals in two weeks looking for more round wins and more interaction with the fans.

“Getting the support from other teams and the fans means everything. I hear a lot of people saying, ‘Don’t quit We love having you out here. We need you out here all the time.’ I think I heard that I don’t know a thousand times this weekend,” summed up Hull.

BUDDY HULL KNOCKS OFF RUST AT ARIZONA NATIONALS

CHANDLER, AZ (March 26, 2023) — The final running of the NHRA Arizona Nationals was Buddy Hull and his Methanol Moonshine Top Fuel dragster’s first race of the season. The up and coming driver rolled into Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park looking to give his new crew chief and new team some experience and also feel the rush of racing an 12,000-horsepower Top Fuel dragster at the highest level of the NHRA. With the backing of new sponsor Methanol Moonshine as well as Renegade Fuels, Go Lithium, and local backing from Camelback Ford and Chompie’s restaurant Hull and his team made three solid runs in qualifying and entered race day as the No. 13 qualifier.

“We got a lot of things out of the way that we needed to get out of the way to move forward and we got some data from the car and (crew chief) Mike Guger knocked the dust off,” said Hull. “He hasn’t been out here for a few years so for Mike to get out here and start looking at the computer again, turn the knobs and getting comfortable with the car was a huge deal. For all the crew guys it’s the first time we’ve been to the track this year together and they had to get their hands back on the car and get back into rhythm as well. This race really did a great job of preparing us for Las Vegas and we’re excited to get there.”

In the final qualifying session Hull destroyed an engine block when he dropped a cylinder on his last run. The destruction forced Hull to go deep into his parts inventory and work well into the night to get ready for a first round race with veteran Leah Pruett from Tony Stewart Racing. The team reassembled the race car and before the race today they realized they needed some additional parts. Luckily, some of their competitors stepped up to support the team.

“We would not have made it to the starting line if the Parts Plus guys, Jim Oberhofer and Clay Millican wouldn’t have allowed us to borrow an injector hat,” said Hull. “We didn’t realize until we fired the car this morning that our injector hat had a crack in it from yesterday’s explosion. Without them we wouldn’t have made it to the start of it. (Funny Car driver and team owner) Chad Green, brought over a valve cover so between all those guys we were able to make it to the starting line.”

In the first round Hull uncharacteristically redlit versus Pruett handing her an easy round win. It was the first time Hull “double stepped” his race car in competition. The mental mistake was something Hull admitted he had seen other drivers experience but never himself.

“I knew the lights were a little long here once you got staged and that is no excuse,” said Hull. “I staged and then had to wait like everybody and my foot just decided to go and my head was saying ‘Stop!’ but it was too late. This was the first race and I will be ready to get back in this Methanol Moonshine Top Fuel dragster in a couple weeks in Las Vegas.”

Hull will be racing a limited schedule but feels that the level of support and acceptance he has already received is critical to his team’s continued success. The team will be back in action at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals in two weeks looking for more round wins and more interaction with the fans.

“Getting the support from other teams and the fans means everything. I hear a lot of people saying, ‘Don’t quit We love having you out here. We need you out here all the time.’ I think I heard that I don’t know a thousand times this weekend,” summed up Hull.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (March 26, 2023) – For the third time overall, and second consecutive, Robert Hight won the NHRA Arizona Nationals Funny Car championship. Driving the Flav-R-Pac / Cornwell Tools / AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS, Hight earned his 62nd career victory Sunday at the final NHRA national event to be hosted at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. Austin Prock with Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist and Brittany Force with the Flav-R-Pac / Monster Energy Chevrolet Top Fuel dragsters had quarterfinal finishes while John Force in the BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevy had a first-round exit.  It was the first win for Robert Hight’s newly configured crew which is now headed by Jimmy Prock and co-assistant crew chiefs Thomas Prock, Jimmy’s son, and Nate Hildahl, a long-time crew member of the three-time championship team. It was also Hight’s first win not dawning AAA / Auto Club of Southern California as his primary sponsor. Though he’ll be back in familiar colors at next weekend’s Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California. En route to his 97th final round appearance, Robert Hight knocked out team owner, 16-time champion John Force in his BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevy in the first round. Force would have tire smoke for only a 4.286-second pass at 219.27 mph while Hight would have a solid 3.911-second pass at 325.37 mph. “Obviously never want to meet a teammate in a first round. Final round would be good, but at least we were guaranteed that one of us would be moving on,” Force said. “It was good for Robert, for Flav-R-Pac, Cornwell Tools, AAA, and to see the family dynamic of the Prock’s, that was special. Luckily this BlueDEF / PEAK Chevy can just regroup and get back after it next weekend in Pomona.” Continuing the defense of his event championship, Hight would match-up with No. 1 qualifier Bob Tasca III in the quarterfinals. It would be a solid-side-by-side drag race for the long-time rivals. Hight would get the job done with a 3.936-second pass at 330.07 mph over Tasca’s 3.966 at 321.88. Hight would pick up the semifinal victory over Chad Green with a 3.900-second pass at 329.34 mph to send Green’s 3.955 at 322.96 home. With his first semifinal appearance of the year, Hight also earned a spot in the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge to be contested at In-N-Out Raceway at Pomona next weekend at the NHRA Winternatioanls. The finals would be a battle between reigning world champion Ron Capps, the competitor Hight narrowly conceded the championship to in 2022 by three points. With lane choice, Hight and the Jimmy Prock, Thomas Prock and Nate Hildahl tuned Flav-R-Pac Funny Car laid down another impressive pass at 3.930-seconds at 328.62 mph that would be no match for Capps’ 5.534 at 136.80 after he smoked the tires. “This whole funny ca field is stacked from top to bottom and to win one of these races you’re going to have to go through four heavy hitters. You just never give up and when you have Jimmy Prock as your crew chief you just know that you’re one run away from fixing this thing and getting back to where you need to be. He races aggressive, I don’t need to tell you that. He wants low E.T. every round and we had that today; we had four rounds where we were low ET. That’s Jimmy Prock-style racing and it makes my job easy. I just gotta go up there, stay in the gas, and keep it in my lane. Proud of these guys, they keep picking at it and getting it where they want it. You can tell when Jimmy is on to something. He has the confidence and that gives me confidence.,” Hight said. “It was kind of different without Auto Club of Southern California, I don’t even recognize myself. Flav-R-Pac, Frank Tiegs stepped up and bought us. It’s amazing to get the win with them here. I’ve tried to give Frank the trophy in the past when I’ve when he was here and he always says ‘no.’ So this time this trophy is going to his wife. She’ll take it.” Entering the day from the No. 3 qualifying spot, Austin Prock and the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain dragster had an unplanned solo run in the first round of eliminations. Jim Maroney broke at the starting line and wasn’t able to take the tree, allowing Prock to get the first round with a 6.455-second pass at 96.71 mph after smoking the tires mid-track. In a solid side-by-side drag race, Prock would come up short in the second round with a 3.768 pass at 327.59 to Steve Torrence’s 3.737 at 331.85. “Not exactly the day we wanted for our team, but we did make a solid pass in the second round. We just came up a taste short at .008-seconds at the finish line. I did not do my typical job on the starting line and I let my team know they can put this one on me. I will continue to work on my craft to make sure we can win those close races,” Prock said. “On the other hand, it was amazing to watch that Flav-R-Pac Funny Car get their first win of the season with my brother Thomas and good Friend Nate Hildahl getting their first wins as assistant crew chiefs. I’ve had the pleasure of working with both and I know they are the future of this sport.” Brittany Force and the Flav-R-Pac / Monster Energy Chevy dragster picked up the first-round win against Josh Hart after Hart had tire smoke almost immediately. Force would go 3.682 seconds at 336.23 mph with Hart coasting to 10.780 at 59.32. In the quarterfinals, it would be Force who experienced tire smoke at the hit. The Flav-R-Pac dragster would cross the finish line at 9.864 and 73.42 while Leah Pruett had a clean run of 3.725 at 333.74.   “Final race here in Phoenix and our teammate Robert Hight in the Flav-R-Pac Funny Car got the win which was exciting. Unfortunately, our team got beat in the second round, but we had a good day,” Force said. “The first round with a 3.68 so we really stepped it up from the low .70’s earlier in the weekend during qualifying. It was a big improvement. We just got lost in the second round. We will regroup and move to Pomona next.” The John Force Racing team will continue on the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series circuit with the next stop at one of their home race tracks March 31-April 2 for the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at the newly named In-N-Out Raceway at Pomona.

CHANDLER, AZ (March 26, 2023) —- In what was billed as the final NHRA Arizona Nationals 2022 NHRA Rookie of the Year Camrie Caruso wrote her name into the record books winning her first Pro Stock race at the historic venue. Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park was also the site of her first career round win last season when the rookie driver defeated Cristian Cuadra in the opening round. Today as the No. 8 qualifier Caruso outran veteran Deric Kramer, Cuadra, Arizonian Matt Hartford and finally former world champion Bo Butner in her Powerbuilt Tools Chevrolet Camaro to secure her first professional victory in just her 21st start. She also became just the second female to win a Pro Stock NHRA national event joining five-time world champion Erica Enders on the short and exclusive list.

“Honestly, everybody from Powerbuilt Tools, Tequila Comisario, and all my marketing partners contributed as well as my awesome team at KB Titan Racing and my teammates to this win,” said Caruso in the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park media center. “It was a great day of racing. It was awesome. And I’m just thankful and blessed to have the team and the partners that have supported me. I have to thank my mom and dad and Papa for all their support too.”

Last year in her rookie campaign Caruso raced to her first final round in just her fifth professional race, a record for Pro Stock rookies. Today capturing the win in just her 21st professional start was an accomplishment Caruso had been working towards for two seasons.

“I’m just excited and thankful,” said Caruso. “I was really hoping we’d start the year off with a good bang. My crew chief Dave Connelly has had a great track record with younger drivers and new drivers in the class. Going into PRI in December we were nervous about how everything was gonna go down with the team merger and they’ve been behind us ever since and working with all of them and having teammates to lean on and like Greg Anderson, Dallas Glenn and Kyle Koretsky. It’s been way better than I could have ever imagined.”

The final round versus Bo Butner lined up the No. 8 qualifier beside the No. 11 qualifier. It was a battle between KB Titan Racing and Elite Motorsports, two of the fiercest rivals in Pro Stock. Caruso was looking to secure the first win for newly formed KB Titan Racing with a victory. The second-year driver was not thinking about that but rather just concentrating on doing her job.

“I’m not gonna lie I wasn’t really sure if I won or not until I pulled off the racetrack because I like to just focus on going straight,” confessed Caruso. “I don’t really look around, but it was so awesome. I just went up there and tried to make it just another round and tried my best to do my job because I knew the guys were going to do theirs.” 

In the second round racing No. 1 qualified Cristian Cuadra Caruso made a mistake unintentionally lighting both her pre-stage and stage bulbs almost simultaneously. Cuadra did not stage his Corral Boots Chevrolet Camaro within the seven second rule and was timed out leading to a disqualification. It was an added bit of drama but as Caruso stated immediately at the top end it was simply a young driver error and no gamesmanship. 

“I just took too much of the first bulb and then as soon as I put my line lock on it moved a little bit and turned on both bulbs,” said Caruso. “Then we were in. It wasn’t intentional. I did go over and say I’m sorry and that it wasn’t intentional at all. I don’t like to really play starting my game because I probably messed myself up to be honest, I’m still new at this and you know, we’re thankful for the win. But it was just a mistake.”

The win in the second race of the season moved Caruso up to number two in the Pro Stock point standings. This is the highest the 2022 NHRA Rookie of the Year has ever been. She finished the regular season last year in the Top Ten but this year with a new team and established teammates Caruso knows there are lofty expectations.

“I need to hold up my end of the bargain because my KB Titan teammates always hold up theirs,” said Caruso. “I was a little worried this season just because they’ve had so much success already together. And then the whole KB Titan team is extremely successful. My teammates all have wins and number one qualifiers and championships. I just wanted to be able to hold up the name and do good for all of them.”

JUSTIN ASHLEY WINS FINAL ARIZONA NATIONALS TOP FUEL TITLE

CHANDLER, AZ (March 26, 2023) — Championship contender Justin Ashley bounced back from a disappointing start to the 2023 NHRA season at the historic Gatornationals by winning the final Top Fuel title at the fabled NHRA Arizona Nationals today. Ashley drove the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by National Debt Relief to victory over Tony Schumacher, Mike Salinas, Steve Torrence and in an epic final round Shawn Langdon to take home his sixth career Top Fuel victory. Racing from the No. 7 qualified spot Ashley raced the gauntlet of an eight-time world champion, the 2023 Gatornationals winner, a four-time Top Fuel champion and the 2013 Top Fuel champion in Toyota teammate Langdon.

 “It was an incredible race day,” said Ashley. “To be honest with you it really was an incredible weekend. We knew coming into the weekend that we’re going to have to go through a gauntlet of opponents just if we wanted to give ourselves a chance to win on Sunday. My crew chiefs Mike Green and Tommy DeLago learned a lot. They really approach this the right way. We made a lot of changes in the off-season and they took Friday and Saturday to make quality laps down the racetrack and learn. We were in a good position to go rounds on Sunday. I think that proved to be the case. You have to have four perfect rounds of racing to just give yourself a chance to win and there are a lot of really great races out there. I am just proud of my team and grateful that we collected this win.

The final round against Langdon pitted Ashley, the No. 7 qualifier, against the No. 8 qualifier and two of the best leavers in the sport. Ashley was protecting a six-race win streak that included last year’s Thunder Valley Nationals final round. The competition between each of these drivers was fierce on the track. Langdon’s Toyota powered Top Fuel dragster was also one of the quickest race cars on the property on race day.

“I knew before that round that they were going to try and step it up because Shawn had been running so well,” said Ashley who posted his quickest run of the weekend in his final run. “I knew that they were going to try and take it from that 3.74 range to the 3.70 or 3.71 range. I couldn’t have been happier when I looked at the time slip. Just a total team effort and they’ve been tweaking things. They’ve been working on things and we’re able to have four rounds today and collect the win but maybe even more importantly long run we’ve got four more runs to collect data. So proud of our Phillips Connect Toyota team powered by National Debt Relief.”

Throughout the day Ashley was on point with his driving leaving first in every round of eliminations. Versus Salinas and Torrence Ashley recorded reaction times of .039 and .035 which were by far the quickest times off the starting line.

Last year Ashley started the season with a season opening win at the NHRA Winternationals but slumped the following race in Arizona. This season with high hopes the team lost in the first round at the Gatornationals but returned to championship form today. The importance of a fast start was not lost on the championship contending team.

“It’s ironic because last year we won the first race (Winternationals) and then lost in the first round at the Arizona Nationals,” said Ashley. “This time was the opposite. We lost in the first round of the first race (Gatornationals) and came back and won the Arizona Nationals. It sets the tone for the year. You know you got to start strong, but you also got to finish strong especially with the Countdown format. We learned last year that it may be more important to be able to finish strong but just learning, just growing and winning definitely helps us to collect some momentum. Every point matters, whether it’s early in the year or late in the year so we’re able to collect those points early on I think is really significant.”

Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster moved up to the No. 4 spot in the points and locked themselves into the 2Fast2Tasty specialty race sponsored by Mission Tortilla Chips. The specialty race will pit the four Arizona Nationals Top Fuel semifinalist against each other during qualifying at next week’s NHRA Winternationals for $10,000 and additional Countdown points.

(3/27/23 – Ben Deatherage) Stockton, California … After a delay of a couple of weeks, Sprint Car fans will get a chance to converge towards the Stockton Dirt Track for the first race of the 2023 NARC 410 Sprint Series presented by Napa Auto Parts. The 3/8-mile San Joaquin County Fairground speed factory will have the series be a part of their coveted Asparagus Cup weekend for the second straight year and third consecutive season the tour has opened at the facility. Roseville’s Colby Copeland won the 2022 Asparagus Cup.

“I’m very excited for the return of the NARC 410 Sprint Series here for the Asparagus Cup,” commented Tony Noceti, promoter of the Stockton Dirt Track. “It should be a great show, and the weather should be just fine.”

The NARC 410 Sprint Series began visiting the Stockton Dirt Track in 2013. Thirteen drivers have tamed the field in the previous twenty-three visits, with Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi having the most success with three wins. Eight drivers have amassed two victories, while only four are one-time winners.

“We are extremely grateful that mother nature has finally given us the opportunity to go Sprint Car racing,” said NARC 410 Sprint Series General Manager Jim Allen, making reference to the originally scheduled March 18th show in Chico that was rained out. “Teams are anxious to go racing again and the Stockton Dirt Track is an extremely fast venue ready to make that happen.”

Also joining the program will be the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Series, and the Legends of the Kearney Bowl.

Who to Watch

Two-time defending NARC 410 Sprint Series champion Dominic Scelzi will hope to win the Asparagus Cup for the first time in his illustrious career. The Fresno phenom was second in the event last year. However, he won in the series debut at the track on August 3rd, 2013, and a triumph on June 13th, 2015, while his most recent trip to victory lane was on August 28^th, 2021. 

Corey Day will be one to watch when the NARC 410 Series rolls into town. The Clovis teenager won the November date in 2021 at SDT and was among his six wins with the tour in the last few seasons. Day has two career series top ten performances in three starts at the “Asparagus Capital of America”.

Aromas’ Justin Sanders already has victories to his credit this offseason. Justin managed to best the fields at Brisbane, Queensland’s Archerfield Speedway, and Eastern Creek Speedway in New South Wales over in Australia. He has also won to 360 sprint car races already this year.  Two of his thirteen total tour triumphs have come at Stockton, achieved in 2020 and last November. His eight starts at the track had resulted in four top ten finishes, including last year when he was sixth at the Asparagus Cup on April 2nd and won the Tribute To Gary Patterson, which marked his third top five. Shane Golobic is another driver returning to “California’s Sunrise Seaport”. The Fremont flyer has two wins, eight top fives, and fourteen top tens in sixteen starts at the facility. Last year Golobic never finished outside the top five when the checkered flag dropped and included a runner-up result on July 23rd. In 2022, Shane claimed his fourteenth career NARC 410 Sprint Series win when he beat the competition at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield last October.

Third-place in series points last year, Bud Kaeding has won twice at Stockton. Representing Campbell, Kaeding has started twenty-one events at the 3/8-mile oval and has been among the top ten on sixteen occasions, including wins in 2016 and 2019. Also, since 2001, the 2017 series champion has taken the green flag in 255 NARC 410 Sprint Series events, posted 202 top tens and 121 top fives, and amassed twenty wins. He was third in the main event last year on the July 23rd visit.

The Stockton Dirt Track, is located at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds at 1658 S Airport Way in Stockton, California. Front Gates open at 1:00 pm, with Time Trials at 4:30 pm. Opening Ceremonies are planned to kick off around 5:00, followed by Racing at 5:30.
