Schuchart snags fourth Eldora triumph in thrilling #LetsRaceTwo opener

ROSSBURG, OH (May 5, 2023) – Logan Schuchart wasn’t surprised when Rico Abreu slid ahead of him coming to the white flag Friday night at Eldora Speedway.

Nine years on the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car tour has taught him someone is always lurking. The nation’s top Sprint Car drivers are prepared to pounce on the smallest mistake. Even though he’d led every lap entering the final one, Schuchart still didn’t expect to go unchallenged. What matters is the response to the challenge. Composure can be the difference between celebrating a win and settling for second.

This experience and expectation allowed the 10th year veteran to stay poised and map out his answer to Abreu’s slider. Schuchart executed a perfect response slide job of his own in Turn 1 and held off Abreu’s last gasp in the final set of corners to claim his first checkered flag of 2023.

“I was kind of expecting it sooner,” Schuchart said of Abreu’s bid for the lead. “I felt pretty confident that when he did drive across in front of me I knew that it was going to be hard for him to keep speed or block me into (Turn) one that I could kind of wait for him for a second coming out of (Turn) four and down the front stretch to make a move or decide what I was going to do. I know he wanted to get right back to the top, and I just kind of had to short slide him and park it in front of him because it was going to be very tough to drive back down off of (Turn) one and drive across the racetrack. I’m just happy to get this thing in Victory Lane.”

The trip to Victory Lane was Schuchart’s 36th with The Greatest Show on Dirt, equaling him with Bixby, OK’s Shane Stewart for 19th on the all-time Series win list. Schuchart now owns four triumphs at Eldora, which sits tied with Jackson Motorplex and The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the tracks he’s won the most at with the World of Outlaws.

Schuchart is also tied as the winningest Pennsylvanian at Eldora in World of Outlaws competition. He, Tim Shaffer (Aliquippa, PA), and Brent Marks (Myerstown, PA) all own four wins apiece.

Perhaps most importantly, Schuchart knocked the first win of the season monkey from his back. With seven top fives, including three podiums heading into Friday, the speed of the Shark Racing #1S had unquestionably been there. But with a zero in the win column, pressure had begun to build.

“It’s definitely huge to get that pressure off your back,” Schuchart admitted. “I feel just as good as anybody out here. I feel like we have the team to compete at the highest level and compete at the top. It’s just making those calls. Sometimes it’s me putting the wrong setup in the thing like last week at Haubstadt. It’s just learning and trial and error over the years of making these things right.”

Schuchart’s path to victory began quickly. The Hanover, PA native lined up third on the grid aboard the Drydene/DuraMAX machine with Brad Sweet and Abreu in front of him. Both Sweet and Abreu opted for the cushion in the first set of corners when the green flew. Schuchart decided to roll the middle and sailed by the top two.

From there, Schuchart maintained a decent advantage throughout the race. He was never able to pull too far ahead but kept those behind him at bay.

Meanwhile, a war erupted for spots within the top five as Abreu, Sweet, and Donny Schatz swapped spots in the early going. The Big E was in tip top shape allowing that trio to utilize many lanes as they battled for the runner-up spot. Even with racing each other, Schuchart stayed within their sights.

It wasn’t until Abreu fully established control of second that he was able to really begin to chip away at Schuchart’s advantage. Traffic helped Abreu have that one last chance as the white flag flew, but he didn’t quite have enough to hold back Schuchart after swiping the lead briefly. Schuchart felt appreciative that it was Abreu who offered the challenge and grateful he was able to best him.

“Rico is a class act guy on and off the track,” Schuchart said. “Him and Ricky Warner make a great team. They’re really tough to beat right now. They’re really fast everywhere we go.”

Abreu settled for second aboard the Rico Abreu Racing #24. The St. Helena, CA native continues to flex his early season muscle with his third World of Outlaws podium of the season and the 31st of his career. With Schuchart’s execution on the final lap, Abreu didn’t feel he could’ve done much more in search of the win.

“I was just waiting for him to slip one time,” Abreu explained. “I knew it was getting down to the wire there. It just comes down to a matter of sticking that last corner and him taking my lane away just startled my car a little bit to get back down to get a run. It was just smart racing on his end. Our car was unbelievable tonight.”

Rounding out the top three was 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz. The 45 year old looked smooth all race and appeared he may challenge for the win. But traffic in his lanes slowed Schatz enough to keep him from the top of the board. The third-place effort marked his first podium of the season and the 741st of his career.

“We were kind of hanging on there at the end, but I kind of knew that about 10 laps in,” Schatz said. “I had to get the wing back to stay with them. We can work from there. It’s a respectable finish for the night and gives us an opportunity for tomorrow.”

Completing the top five was Brad Sweet and David Gravel. With Carson Macedo finishing sixth, Sweet trimmed Macedo’s points lead down to only eight markers.

The night’s KSE Racing Hard Charger was Kyle Larson with a 22nd to 10th drive aboard Paul Silva’s #57. 

Early in the night Logan Schuchart collected his third Simpson Performance Products QuickTime Award of the year and the 34th of his career.

CASE #No1EngineOil Heat One was topped by Brad Sweet (222nd of career). NOS Energy Drink Heats Two through Four were claimed by Sheldon Haudenschild (81st of career), Logan Schuchart (105th of career), and Donny Schatz (506th of career).

The MicroLite Last Chance Showdown victory went to Kraig Kinser.

GRAND FORKS, ND (May 3, 2023) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will make its first trip of 2023 to North Dakota and Minnesota when the calendar turns to June.

The journey will bring The Greatest Show on Dirt back to River Cities Speedway, in Grand Forks, ND, for its 30th visit to the 1/4-mile bullring, on Friday, June 2. Then, the Series will make its debut at the 3/8-mile Ogilvie Raceway, in Ogilvie, MN, on Saturday, June 3.

There have been five different winners in the last six races at River Cities – four-time and reigning champion Brad Sweet is the sole repeat winner in that time (2021, 2022). Ten-time Series champion Donny Schatz, of Fargo, ND, holds the most World of Outlaws wins at the track with 13.

Jones atop points standings, Torgerson teams with Thorson for Fri-Sat swing

HUMBOLDT, KS (May 3, 2023) – The Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyotadives into its debut in Kansas this weekend with a Friday-Saturday doubleheader, May 5-6, at Humboldt Speedway and 81 Speedway.

The field will compete for $4,000 grand prizes on both nights, joined by Non-Wing Sprint Cars and Factory Stocks at Humboldt on Friday, then the Sprint Cars and 316 Mods at 81 on Saturday.

Though the Xtreme Outlaw Series has yet to visit either venue, both tracks have hosted Midget competition in the past. Both POWRi and USAC have taken their national Midget series to each and put on programs that showcase the speed Midgets are capable of. At 3/8 of a mile, 81 Speedway will take over as the biggest track the Series has visited since its inception last year.

Here are the drivers to watch and storylines to follow this weekend:

NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN – After posting back-to-back top-five finishes in the last two Series races, Kyle Jones has taken over the points lead by 13 over Cannon McIntosh.

Jones, 29, of Kennedale, TX, put his Spike/Stanton, PDIDiesel.com #7U on the podium in the Saturday night portion of the Xtreme Outlaw Showdown in Du Quoin back in March, then followed that up with a fourth-place run at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 three weeks ago.

He and the Trifecta Motorsports team now ride into Humboldt Speedway on Friday where they competed together in 2020, resulting in a 13th-to-ninth charge for Jones in his first start at the track.

ON THE RISE – Cannon McIntosh jumped a total of six spots in the Series points standings after his second win of the season three weeks ago at I-55, and now rides 13 points behind leader Kyle Jones in second place.

McIntosh, of Bixby, OK, has been keeping his skills sharp in the downtime this season, wheeling a Micro Sprint on a weekly basis at Millbridge Speedway for his team’s Micro program at Dave Mac-Barnhill Motorsports. Five Feature wins there already this year has proved its benefits for the 20yr-old Toyota Racing Development driver as he continues the chase for his first national Midget series championship.

McIntosh has previously visited Humboldt on multiple occasions, last making the trip out in 2020, where he finished 11th in a POWRi event during his tenure with Keith Kunz Motorsports. Prior to that, he made starts in 2019 (DNF), and recorded his best finish there in 2017 – a fifth-place run with his family team, then known as Dave Mac Motorsports.

THE CLIMB BACK – Making her debut at both venues this weekend, Jade Avedisian has some work to do to reclaim the Series points lead after dropping back to third in the standings three weeks ago.

The 16yr-old Californian struggled at I-55, fading back to 16th from her seventh-place starting spot and giving up the points lead she held coming into the race. Historically, I-55 has not been Avedisian’s cup of tea, but Humboldt and 81 will be clean slates. She’s yet to compete in any capacity at either venue, which gives her a brand-new opportunity for redemption this weekend.

Though she’s raced on big 1/4-miles like Humboldt before, Saturday will be her first Xtreme Outlaw start on a 3/8-mile track. The Series has yet to visit a track larger in distance than the 1/3-mile of I-55.

BACK IN THE SADDLE – Climbing back behind the wheel of a Midget for the first time since January, Ashton Torgerson has teamed with Tanner Thorson Racing this weekend to take on the Kansas doubleheader.

Torgerson, 16, of Glendale, AZ, was injured in a scary incident at the Chili Bowl Nationals in January where he was ejected from the seat of his car after flipping several times down the backstretch. Torgerson sat out for several weeks to recover but has since made multiple Micro Sprint and Winged Sprint Car starts in his efforts to get back in the racing groove. Friday at Humboldt will be his first official Midget start since the night of his accident.

Like several others in the field, Torgerson will be making his first appearance with the Xtreme Outlaws, as well as his debut at both tracks.

BEEN THERE, RACED THAT – While several competitors will be making their Midget debut at Humboldt this weekend, Zach Daum will be one of the veterans in the field with prior experience.

Like McIntosh, Daum raced the POWRi event at Humboldt in 2020, and finished fourth behind Daison Pursley, Kaylee Bryson and winner Buddy Kofoid.

Daum, of Pocahontas, IL, moved up five spots in the Series standings after a runner-up finish to McIntosh at I-55 three weeks ago. He now sits sixth – 57 points back of leader Jones in pursuit of his second consecutive Xtreme Outlaw points championship.

The Big River Steel Chase for the Championship presented by ARP will conclude at the 43rd Annual General Tire Dirt Track World Championship presented by ARP. Following a series of bonus rounds at varying points throughout the season, four drivers will enter the season finale at Eldora Speedway with an equal opportunity at becoming the 2023 Lucas Oil National Champion. In addition to the revitalized championship format, more than $470,000 has been added to the championship point fund, bringing the grand total for the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship presented by ARP to just over $1,000,000. Double header is first two of five scheduled Eldora races in 2023ROSSBURG, OH (May 2, 2023) – Eldora Speedway has been a staple of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car tour since its debut in 1978, and that trend will continue this weekend.“The Big E” will elevate its status as the most visited track in World of Outlaws history when The Greatest Show on Dirtreturns for #LetsRaceTwo Friday-Saturday, May 5-6. Four of Gravel’s 80 career Series victories have occurred at “The House that Earl Built” including two last July. The Watertown, CT native also topped the All-Star Circuit of Champions’ Governor’s Reign for a $52,000 payday in 2020.LACK OF BACK TO BACK: Eldora has given fans a variety of winners over the last few years. In the track’s last 16 races, no driver has won consecutive trophies, even though four competitors have claimed more than one main event during that stretch.The man who will have the chance to break the trend this Friday is St. Helena, CA’s Rico Abreu. The 31-year-old topped last September’s BeFour the Crowns Showdown to collect his 10th career Series victory. Abreu has already won twice this season (Lincoln Speedway & 81 Speedway), and one more tally in the win column would be his personal best for one season with The Greatest Show on Dirt.ELDORA EXCELLENCE: It’s fitting that the most recent driver to go back-to-back at Eldora is the one who has dominated the ‘The Big E” over stints of his career – Donny Schatz.The 10-time Series champion has claimed a whopping 17 Eldora triumphs during his tenure with the World of Outlaws. It’s the third winningest track on his record, and only Steve Kinser (41 wins) and Sammy Swindell (30 wins) have been more successful at Eldora. During one remarkable stretch from 2016 to 2019, Schatz topped nine of 16 Eldora Features.This weekend presents Schatz with an opportunity to shake off a recent slump aboard the Tony Stewart/Curb Agajanian Racing #15.SHARK STRENGTH: Eldora Speedway is a track that the Shark Racing duo of Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen have found plenty of success at during their nine years on the tour.Schuchart has been especially strong. The Hanover, PA native has made three trips to Eldora Victory Lane – most recently in September of 2021. Schuchart has also podiumed in 10 of his last 24 Series appearances. A massive purse, camping, corn hole tournament, wine tour, and more make up the marquee event weekend

FOUNTAIN CITY, WI – May 2, 2023 – When Mississippi Thunder Speedway promoter Tyrone Lingenfelter and his team created the Dairyland Showdown in 2021, he knew it would be a marquee event for the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models.  

What he didn’t realize was how fast it would grow. 

In two years, the Wisconsin event has gone from a two-day show to an epic three-day spectacular and one of the highest paydays on the Series schedule. The third annual Dairyland Showdown on May 4-6 will pay a total weekend purse of $264,000, including a $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday, May 6. 

That Saturday winner’s share was one of Lingenfelter’s initial goals. 

“I shouldn’t say I didn’t think we’d get to this point; I just didn’t know how fast it would be,” Lingenfelter said. “Our goal was to someday get to fifty-thousand to win. It’s pretty cool that we could do that in the second year already.  

“I think it just goes out as a thank you to the fans and drivers that have supported the event. It’s grown every single year. We get more campers each year. Our driver count went up the first two years, and I expect it to go up even more again this year.” 

While racing highlights the three-day event, it’s only the beginning of what fans can expect.  

One aspect that’s grown since the event’s inception is camping, which has led to more activities to supplement the on-track action. 

“The camping aspect gives you the opportunity to have a guaranteed fan base because they’re there all weekend long,” Lingenfelter said. “It’s part of the reason we started doing all of the events we have. We have the golf tournament, the corn hole tournament, and the wine tour. We want to make sure everyone that comes here for the weekend gets the biggest bang for their buck, not just on the track but off. 

“I think the biggest way of doing that is keeping everybody busy all weekend long.” 

While many events across the country have held golf and cornhole tournaments, the geography of the Wisconsin/Minnesota border allows for something different—a wine tour. 

It’s the second year, fans can enjoy a tour of the area’s wineries, giving them another option while they wait for racing to start. 

“The wine tour was actually Hailey Towner’s idea,” Lingenfelter said. “She works in the office with us. We have a couple of wineries that are pretty close by. It seemed like a really good idea. Last year was the first year of it, and it went really well and this year we’ve already got more people signed up. 

“It seems to be well-received by a lot of drivers. It’s like, ‘Hey, my wife wants to come along, and now she’s got something she’s looking forward to on Saturday.’ That’s where I think we’ve gotten the most uptick from fans.” 

The racing and off-track activities allowed for the Dairyland Showdown to grow to where it is in its third year. But Lingenfelter and his crew are also excited because fans in the upper Midwest can start their season off with a bang, he said. 

“People are going to get the opportunity to come out right off the bat and see a big $50,000-to-win show,” Lingenfelter said. “The World of Outlaws Late Models, the best drivers in the country, are going to be in their backyard, and I’m just pleased that we’re the ones to be able to host it. 

“We’ve had a lot of anticipation. A lot of things we’ve been working up to. It’s pretty exciting for us to be able to start things off with a bang. It’s almost like our Daytona 500.” 

The World of Outlaws CASE Late Models head to Mississippi Thunder Speedway for the third annual Dairyland Showdown on May 4-6, including the second $50,000-to-win payday of the 2023 season. 

FARMER CITY, IL (May 2, 2023) – When the calendar turns to June, the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series will venture to three tracks in three days.

First, the Series will make its highly anticipated return to Farmer City Raceway for the Farmer City Showdown on Thursday, June 1. Then, the Series will venture to Granite City, IL to compete at Tri-City Speedway – owned by Gordy Gundaker’s parents – on Friday, June 2, before making its first return in 16 years to Paducah International Raceway on Saturday, June 3.

With each race the purse gets bigger and bigger as the week goes on. Drivers will go wheel to wheel for a $10,000 payday at Farmer City. Then, a $12,000 top prize will be on the line at Tri-City Raceway. They’ll cap off the week with $15,000 up for grabs to the winner at Paducah.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 2, 2023) – Progressive American Flat Track will conclude its early-season run of four Short Tracks with the inaugural Ventura Short Track this Saturday, May 6, at Ventura Raceway in Ventura, California. It’s somewhat unusual to have four Short Tracks throughout an entire campaign, let alone in the opening six races. The first three delivered huge thrills and significant developments for the 2023 Championship, and the same can be expected again this weekend. Together with the Mission Dallas Half-Mile presented by Roof Systems, this year’s first four ovals have already begun to reshuffle the pecking order. Current Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle title leader Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) and reigning premier-class champion Jared Mees (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle/Rogers Racing/SDI Racing FTR750) have earned two wins apiece and currently rank 1-2 in the standings. Mees comes in with soaring confidence after having gotten the better of Daniels in their most recent two matchups. That said, rising star Daniels has shown no real weaknesses or made any major mistakes, allowing him to build up an early-season advantage with no finish worse than second. That’s a mighty high standard that promises to ratchet up the pressure on Mees (and everyone else) should he continue to perform at that level. Two-time Champion Briar Bauman (No. 3 Parts Plus/Jacob Companies KTM 890 Duke) expected a rollercoaster of a season when he originally committed to racing a developing platform in the KTM 890 Duke. And while he’s gotten that, he’s continued to be a factor, securing a pair of podiums and three top-five finishes in the bike’s earliest days. He should only get better as the season evolves and Bauman is better able to exploit the bike’s inherent strengths. JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) is the season’s only winner other than Daniels and Mees. While that came in the TT discipline in which he stands as one of the sport’s all-time greats, Beach also won a pair of Short Tracks a season ago. He’s more than capable of doing the same this weekend, which would be the ideal way to rebound back after crashing out of podium contention in Dallas. Independent Indians pilots Davis Fisher (No. 67 Rackley Racing/Bob Lanphere’s BMC Racing Indian FTR750), Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750), Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 JMC Motorsports/Fairway Ford Indian FTR750) and Ben Lowe (No. 25 Rackley Racing/Mission Foods Indian FTR750) line positions 5-8 in the standings. The first three have already stood on the podium this season while Lowe came close with a fourth of his own. Meanwhile, the factory Royal Enfields of Johnny Lewis (No. 10 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield 650) and Ryan Wells (No. 94 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield 650) have earned a top five and multiple top tens already in their first season of Mission SuperTwins competition – while demonstrating the potential to place even higher. And finally, Short Track extraordinaire Sammy Halbert (No. 69 Martin Trucking/Castrol Harley-Davidson XR750) will be back on track this weekend. CONCORD, NC (May 2, 2023) – CBS is bringing fans inside the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series with a one-hour special on Sunday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. (ET)

World of Outlaws: The Good, The Young, and The Dirty will be a documentary-style show that follows seasoned veterans, rookies and many in between as they prepare for the most grueling schedule in motorsports – an 80-plus race schedule across the country from February to November.

While the show will feature many stars of the Sprint Car series, a focus will be on 10-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz, 2022 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year Spencer Bayston and current rookie contender Giovanni Scelzi as they give fans an in-depth look at their life with The Greatest Show on Dirt.

The show will run from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (ET), May 7, marking the World of Outlaws’ second time on the main CBS network. Fans can also look forward to prerecorded airings of World of Outlaws events on CBS Sports Network throughout the year.

Harrison Burton and the No. 21 DEX Imaging Mustang finished 20th in Monday’s rain-delayed Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway.

It was his fourth top-20 finish of the season and his third in the past five races.

Burton started Monday’s 400-miler from 31^st place after qualifying was rained out and the starting line-up was set by metrics.

He was back in 35^th when the Competition Caution flag flew at Lap 20 but had bounced back to 24^th at Lap 85 when the caution flag was displayed for a crash involving Kyle Larson.

Burton pitted under the ensuing yellow flag and moved up to 21^st by Lap 120 when the first Stage came to a conclusion.

When the second Stage ended at Lap 250, Burton was again in 21^st place but one lap behind the leaders.

Burton broke into the top 20 as the third and final segment of the race got underway. He was running 19^th when he headed to pit road for a green-flag stop with 72 laps remaining but spun as he entered pit road.

He was able to get the DEX Imaging Mustang turned around with no damage but dropped to 21^st place, three laps behind. 

With 43 laps remaining, he rejoined the top 20 and was running 20^th when Joey Logano crashed to bring out the yellow flag with 14 laps remaining. Taking the wave-around allowed Burton to regain one of his lost laps, and he finished the race in 20^th place.

Burton and the No. 21 Wood Brothers team now turn their attention to Sunday’s Advent Health 400 at Kansas Speedway.

(5/2/23) Chico, California – The high-powered 900-horsepower NARC 410 Sprint Cars will be making their only appearance of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday, May 6th for the 11th Annual David Tarter Memorial.  At stake will be a $3,500.00 winner’s payday to the winner of the 35-lap feature, plus other bonuses. 

The race is run in honor of David Tarter, who tragically lost his life on June 8th, 2012, in a freak pit accident at Silver Dollar.  

The event marks the fifth stop of the 22-race NARC campaign that travels throughout California, Oregon, and Washington.  To date, the NARC series has produced three winners in four races, led by 17-year-old driving sensation Corey Day of Clovis, who has scored two victories.

“After getting rained out earlier this season at Chico, it great to finally get a chance to return to Silver Dollar,” said series GM Jim Allen.  “This place is not only a fan favorite, but our teams love coming here also because the racing is always good.  It’s super-competitive and nobody ever runs away and hides at this track as proven at last year’s Tarter Memorial.  It was an exciting show and we expect more of the same.”

When you figure in lap leader money contributed by the Tarter Family and sponsors, this show represents a very lucrative payday for the winner. The top three drivers will earn lap money for each lap in the feature event ($50-$30-$20., so there are benefits to running up front.

Since 2013, there have been five winners of the Tarter Memorial, including the all-time leader Kyle Hirst with five triumphs. Hirst is a four-time NARC King of the West champion.  Corey Day is the defending race champion, while Sean Becker, Craig Stidham, and Justin Sanders join him as one-time winners.

 Twenty-six drivers have parked it at Chico’s victory lane since 2001. Tim Kaeding has amassed the most triumphs with sixteen, while Jonathan Allard has done so nine times, and Brent Kaeding is a five-time winner. Corey Day won the lone event at SDS last season.

Who to Watch

Day has been a force to reckon with in 2023 with the NARC 410 Sprint Series. Racing for car owner and former World of Outlaw champion Jason Meyers, he has yet to finish off the podium all season.  He currently leads Aromas driver Justin Sanders by 13-points and Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi by 15. 

Two-time defending champion Scelzi got a big monkey off his back last week in Antioch by winning his first win with NARC in 2023. Dominic was third in the lone appearance that NARC made in 2022. However, he hit the “pay dirt” in 2021 for his sole Silver Dollar Speedway triumph in thirteen career series starts.

Sanders looks to finally open his 2023 NARC winning account up at Chico for himself and car owner Demo Mittry. Two of his thirteen total NARC tour triumphs have come at Silver Dollar, achieved in 2019 and 2021.  Of his seven starts at the quarter-mile clay oval, five have resulted in top-ten finishes, including last year when he posted a second-place finish and marked his fourth top-five. Sanders won this event in 2021, but that was when it was a 360 Sprint Car show.

Shane Golobic is the defending Silver Dollar Speedway champion and wants to continue his commanding grip on the facility. Despite never winning a NARC-sanctioned event in Chico, the Fremont flyer has seven top fives and twelve top tens in nineteen main event starts. Last year Golobic finished sixth when the checkered flag dropped.  Golobic will be returning to driver duties of the Works Limited #57 entry.

Four-time Silver Dollar Speedway title winner Andy Forsberg will be competing. The Auburn-based racer has won a total of four NARC feature events in his stellar career.  The most recent was April 5th, 2003. Forsberg has eight podiums, eleven fives, and twenty-three top-ten finishes in forty-three NARC starts.

Sean Becker, from Roseville, will be at the site where he has captured seven track championships.  Becker has won four times in NARC competition at Chico and 11 times overall.  The 2005 NARC series champion, will be piloting the Antaya Motorsports 16A this weekend.  He also won the first edition of the David Tarter Memorial in 2013 when it was an unsanctioned event. In fifty starts, Becker has generated thirty-four top tens, seventeen top fives, and nine podium finishes.

TEAM CHEVY RACE HIGHLIGHTS:  Stage One·       With the starting lineup set by the NASCAR rule book, last weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series winner Kyle Busch and the No. 8 Lenovo Camaro ZL1 team led the field to the green in today’s Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway.  ·       Busch continued to pace the field until a competition caution that flew on lap 20. The field came down pit road for the race’s first round of pit stops with crew chief Randall Burnett calling Busch down pit road for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Busch ultimately had to restart at the rear of the field due to a speeding penalty on his pit road entry.  ·       Starting from 23rd, the No. 48 Ally Camaro ZL1 crew chief Blake Harris made an early pit strategy call to bring Josh Berry down pit road for right-side tires and fuel only to give Berry a top-five restart position.  ·       Noah Gragson spun on lap 27 to bring out the caution. The No. 42 Sunseeker Resorts Camaro ZL1 team came to pit road to make repairs on a broken toe link. Unable to make minimum speed, Gragson was forced to retire early from the race.  ·       The race’s second caution came at lap 34 involving Team Chevy’s Daniel Suarez and Ty Dillon. Both drivers sustained damage that was unable to be repaired, ultimately ending their day. ·       Kyle Larson was involved in an accident on lap 80, sustaining right-front damage. Inside Line Promotions – ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 1, 2023) – Dominic Scelzi drove to his 20^th career NARC 410 Sprint Car Series feature triumph last Saturday during the Contra Costa County Clash at Antioch Speedway.

The win was Scelzi’s second straight this season and his first of the year with the NARC Series as well as his first ever at the track.

“Getting win No. 20 means a lot and to add another track to our win list is great,” he said. “It was a really good night from start to finish for our team.”

Scelzi qualified fifth quickest to kick off the competition at the dirt oval, which was hosting its first NARC Series race since 2017.

“We hadn’t been there in ages,” he said. “They reshaped the track and cut the berm down and made a lot of improvements. We went out really late in qualifying. The track was tapering off a little bit. It didn’t fall off crazy, but I think it would have helped to go out early so I was happy being fifth quick.”

Scelzi won his heat race from the pole position before he finished second in the dash.

“We won our heat race and ran really well,” he said. “In the dash I fell to fifth on the first corner with how things shuffled, but drove up to second. Right there I felt we had a good shot at this thing. We just needed to make sure we were tight enough to have grip off the corners.”

Scelzi lined up on the outside of the front row in the 30-lap feature.

“We went green and I was more or less searching around the track, figuring out where I was working the best,” he said. “About 10 laps in the leader missed the bottom and half spun, which gave us the lead. I was running the diamond line in turns one and two and pounding the fence in turns three and four. I felt we got through traffic really well until Lap 20 or so. We got to some of the faster cars and they were harder to lap. I got hung out behind a lapped car and that allowed Corey (Day) to close in. He got by me and led a lap with about five laps to go. On the next lap I slid him and took his bottom lane away. I got back to the fence and the next lap the yellow came out. I liked to see that because it gave me open track. I knew I needed to move down in turns one and two and I kept ripping the fence in turns three and four. I was able to skate away and get the win.”

Scelzi’s victory was his first with the NARC Series since May 26 of last year. His 20 NARC Series wins ranks seventh all time – only eight wins out of the top five.

Scelzi plans to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif. The opening night is a weekly show with Saturday’s program featuring a NARC Series race during the 11^th annual David Tarter Memorial.

FOUNTAIN CITY, WI – May 1, 2023 – For the third straight season, the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models will begin May on the banks of the Mississippi River with a trip to Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, WI.  

Three nights of epic dirt Late Model action await the Series at the Dairyland Showdown on May 4-6, boasting an overall weekend purse of $264,000.  

On Thursday, May 4, and Friday, May 5, drivers will battle in split-field, 25-lap, $5,000-to-win Features, accumulating points each night.  

Those points will set the Heat Race lineups on Saturday, May 6, as drivers chase down the second $50,000-to-win payday of the season in a 75-lap Feature.  

USRA Modifieds will join the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models each night. 

It’s not just racing on tap at this year’s Dairyland Showdown. There are also off-track events throughout the weekend. Fans can enjoy a golf tournament on Friday, May 5, along with participating in a cornhole tournament and wine tour on Saturday, May 6.

Here’s a look at what to keep an eye on this weekend at Mississippi Thunder: 

The Thunderous Five: Since the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models started racing at Mississippi Thunder in 2021, there’s been five different winners in five races.  

Four-time Series champion Brandon Sheppard and current Series points leader Chris Madden scored a win in 2021, while Bobby Pierce, Jonathan Davenport, and 2018 Series champion Mike Marlar earned a victory in 2022.  

If the trend of no repeat winners continues this weekend, there could be 10 straight different World of Outlaws winners at the Fountain City, WI oval, with five chances to win this weekend.

Sheppard enters the weekend with momentum after scoring his first win of 2023, and first in a Longhorn chassis. 

Keeping Pace With “Smokey”: Madden leads the points standings after six races entering the 2023 edition of the Dairyland Showdown. And this weekend, he returns to a track he’s found success at. 

Along with his win, the Gray Court, SC driver hasn’t finished outside of the top five at Mississippi Thunder.  

“Smokey’s” early season consistency earned him an 18-point lead over Kyle Bronson with three top fives and five top 10s. 

Bronson’s consistency has allowed him to keep pace with Madden, earning a top five and four top 10s, including his first podium at 411 Motor Speedway. 

However, Mississippi Thunder is uncharted territory for the Brandon, FL driver, as he’s never raced at the track in World of Outlaws competition. 

A Sense of Familiarity: Ryan Gustin is off to his best World of Outlaws CASE Late Models start of his career, currently tied for third with Brian Shirley—26 points behind Madden.

“The Reaper” has succeeded in a Late Model at Mississippi Thunder, as he’s only finished outside the top 10 once in five races. But he’s also succeeded at the track in a Modified. 

Gustin has five USMTS victories at the track and has more experience there than any other World of Outlaws regular. 

Larson Land: Other than the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway, Mississippi Thunder is the closest the Series races to Brent Larson’s Lake Elmo, MN home.  

It’s also the site of one of his best career finishes.  

He held on for second during the first World of Outlaws Feature at the track in 2021 after Sheppard passed him late in the race. 

Larson has a top five and two top 10s in five races at the track.  

A win close to home would be his first career Series triumph.

MOORESVILLE, NC (May 1, 2023) – Second year Pro Stock driver and reigning NHRA Rookie of the Year Camrie Caruso is proud to be one of eight Pro Stock drivers set to compete in the first-ever NHRA Pro Stock All-Star Callout, which will take place on Saturday, May 20 as part of the NHRA’s return to Chicago at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance at Route 66 Raceway. Caruso who this season collected her first win at the Arizona Nationals and followed that up with a No. 1 qualifier and semifinal finish at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals is eager to test her skills against some of the best and brightest stars in Pro Stock.

“You look at the talent of the drivers and the quality of the Pro Stock cars. I know this is going to be a great event for the fans and the class,” said Caruso, when she saw the official list of participants. “I know my dad was keeping up with my qualifying position all weekend in Charlotte since that was the last chance to earn points. It was cool to clinch racing the Big Jeff Audio Chevrolet Camaro since they are a new sponsor for our team. We will switch to Tequila Comisario as our primary sponsor starting in Chicago and I appreciate all the support we have received all season from Powerbuilt Tools, VP Racing and DENSO.” 

The unique specialty race pits eight standouts against each other in a marquee attraction at the first race in Chicago since 2019, and there is a distinct KB Titan Racing versus Elite Motorsports theme heading into the shootout where big money and bragging rights will be on the line.

Caruso will be joined by three of her KB Titan Racing teammates including Dallas Glenn who is seeded first, followed by teammates Matt Hartford and Kyle Koretsky. Elite Motorsports drivers Aaron Stanfield, Troy Coughlin Jr., Cristian Cuadra and defending world champ Erica Enders fill up the next four slots with Caruso holding down the eighth slot.

Glenn will get the first selection to call out his opening-round opponent, followed by Hartford and down the line until the first-round matchups are set. Following what should be a thrilling opening round, the driver who makes the quickest winning run will select their semifinal opponent, locking in the other matchup.

“I am looking forward to seeing how the callouts breakdown,” said Caruso, who will be making her first appearance in a specialty race. “I know there will be a lot of discussion about who everyone will be picking. This is great for the class and when you look at the KB Titan versus Elite line-up it should make for a great race. Both teams have amazing drivers.”

The opening round of the NHRA Pro Stock All-Star Callout takes place at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 20, followed by the semifinals at 3:15 p.m. and the final round at 4:55 p.m. CT. A special broadcast highlighting the callout takes place from 4-5 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) on Sunday, May 21.

Qualifying opens on Friday, May 19 at 5 p.m. CT, leading into qualifying at 1 and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20. Eliminations begin at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, May 21. All the action from the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance will also be featured on FS1, including qualifying shows on Friday and Sunday, and action from eliminations on Sunday.

Torrence Takes Toyota Top Fuel Dragster to Final Round

CHARLOTTE (April 30, 2023) – Two Toyota GR Supra Funny Cars made their way into the final quad in Sunday’s Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C. Alexis DeJoria and Ron Capps transferred into the final round after weather wreaked havoc on the overall race schedule. DeJoria was able to secure a runner-up result with a pass at 3.872 seconds. Capps would claim semi-final points with a pass at 3.923 seconds.

In Top Fuel dragster competition, Steve Torrence advanced to the final quad, but would red light and his time disallowed in the last round. 

The NHRA Drag Racing Series will enjoy two off-weekends before returning to competition at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL, May 19-21.

How challenging is a weekend like this with weather issues and four-wide racing?

“These are tough weekends, and these four-wide races add so many different elements on top of everything else. Not to mention, to have the weather like we had and working around that all weekend, it was challenging, but I’m so proud of my team because we worked hard and were able to turn things around on race day. Of course, it hurts not to win the race. We really felt like we were going to run an .85 or an .84, and that’s what Guido was trying to do, but not a bad weekend overall considering where it started.”

After an exciting advancement out of round one, how did you feel about round two?

“We qualified really well and we stole one in round one so we felt good going into round two. We couldn’t capitalize on that round, but we’ll learn from it and will move on to Chicago. I enjoy the four-wides, but I’m looking forward to getting back to the more traditional style of racing. We’ll go back to the shop and look at everything to continue to find ways to improve just like everyone else out here. I feel good about having a fast and consistent race car at this point in the year. We’re happy with where we are right now and there is going to be a lot of shuffling in the points between now and when the countdown starts.”

Coming off of the win in Las Vegas, how frustrating is it to get eliminated first round in Charlotte?

“This certainly wasn’t the race day we were looking for here at Charlotte coming off the win at (Las) Vegas two weeks ago and here last fall, but it just wasn’t meant to be today. This zMax track was tough to tame after the rains overnight and we just had too much power in that first round. We’ll learn from this and lick our wounds and get ready for Joliet (Ill.) in a few weeks. And we’re excited to get back to Route 66 (Raceway) and the Chicagoland area for the first time in a few years. That’s a great market for Matco Tools and FVP and Factory Motor Parts and the home track for FDC Coffee and we want to put on a good show for our partners. And, we get to race in the Mission 2Fast 2Tasty Challenge on Saturday for the first time. It’s a long season, we’ll regroup and hit it hard at Joliet.”

CONCORD, N.C. (April 30,2023) – For the second time in their careers, Robert Hight and the Flav-R-Pac / Cornwell Tools / AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car team and Austin Prock and the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster team swept the nitro categories picking up victories in their respective categories Sunday at the Circle K NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. John Force and the BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS had a semifinal finish while Brittany Force and the Flav-R-Pac / Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster had a quarterfinal exit. The win would mark Hight’s second win of the season, 63rd of his career, seventh overall at zMAX Dragway and third at the Four-Wide Nationals. It will also be the final 2023 race Hight will wear the Flav-R-Pac colors. On the Top Fuel side, the victory was Prock’s first of the season, first at any Four-Wide event and fourth of his career. It was also the first Top Fuel win for Chris Cunningham as a lead crew chief. Robert Hight and the Flav-R-Pac Camaro kept up the consistency from qualifying with a solid 3.926-second pass at 329.10 mph to win his first-round quad over Mike McIntire Jr.’s 3.940 at 321.35, Alex Laughlin’s 4.155 at 307.30 and J.R. Todd’s 5.530 at 134.23. Hight would be joined in the next quad by McIntire Jr. Joining Hight and McIntire would be John Force in the BlueDEF Chevy and long-time rival Cruz Pedregon. Hight would dominate the second quad with a 3.875-second pass at 331.28 mph with Force also advancing on a hole shot with a .055 reaction time and 3.967 pass at 326.32 over McIntire’s .102 reaction and 3.941 run at 309.70. Pedregon would smoke the tires for a 9.796 at 87.59. In the finals, it would be Hight picking up victory with a holeshot. The three-time champion would have a .053 reaction time to go with his 3.888-second pass at 328.30 mph defeating Alexis DeJoria’s .082 reaction and 3.872 at 333.41, Ron Capps’ 3.923 at 331.85 and Force’s 3.924 at 329.26. “This is a big weekend for us. The car went down the track in every run and really hats off to the NHRA and the Safety Safari. They have had challenging conditions all weekend and I know they have worked long, long hours,” said Hight referring to the continuous weather delays throughout the three-day event. “After two first round losses in a row, we changed the car around. We stayed and tested after the last event in Vegas. Jimmy Prock felt we got the data we needed despite an ignition problem. So, to come in here and make seven respectable runs, and get down the track every run, that’s pretty exciting. When you are up against the group that we had in the final, whoever comes out on top, that is a big deal.” Austin Prock and the Montana Brand / RMT dragster team continued to improve from qualifying and find consistency in performance laying down the lowest elapsed time of race day with a 3.686-second pass at 331.53 mph. They would defeat the 5.820 run at 115.89 mph of Justin Ashley, who also advanced, as well as Mike Salinas’ 5.853 at 117.82 and Jacob McNeal’s 4.607 at 169.15. Facing Ashely, Leah Pruett and Pat Dakin in the second quad, Prock and the Montana Brand team would lay down another impressive 3.715-second pass at 328.78 to advance to the finals. Pruett would join him with a 3.753 at 326.40 while the pair sent Dakin’s 3.774 at 325.30 and Ashley’s 4.224 at 200.68 back to the trailers. It would be a wild final quad match-up with four-time champion Steve Torrence red-lighting. Prock would manage to keep his composure for a clean 3.684-second pass at 330.88 mph to better Pruett’s 3.708 at 329.99 and Hart’s 3.756 at 327.82. “It was a great weekend overall. Just like Robert’s car, we went down the track all seven runs this weekend. And to rebound like we did after an awful weekend in Vegas, really shows how strong this team is. I never have had much success here in Charlotte and believe I went out from pretty much going out every first round to winning it. Super proud of my team and this category is just brutal right now, so they are extra special,” Prock said. “When you are in the outside lanes, if you are quick, you can catch the win light. I missed that, so I didn’t even know I won until I turned the corner. My crew chiefs were so confident today that they told me we are going to go out there and out-run everybody and I believe we did.” En route to his final quad appearance, John Force and the BlueDEF Chevy had some luck in the first elimination quad advancing with a 5.846-second pass at 128.79 mph after both John Smith and Blake Alexander had center line violations that disqualified their runs. Force, by default, would be runner-up to Cruz Pedregon’s 3.892 at 327.35. Force’s hunt for a third-consecutive Four-Wide Nationals victory at zMAX Dragway came to a close in the final quad when he came up short with a 3.924-second pass at 329.26 mph for his second consecutive semifinal finish. “Not a bad weekend for this BlueDEF team. We didn’t get it down there every run and we got a bit of luck on one of them but, semifinal finish, making it to the final round, that’s good,” Force said. “If it can’t be us winning, I’m glad it’s Robert Hight. That was his last race in Flav-R-Pac, so that’s exciting. And to get the win with Austin Prock and Montana Brand, another Frank Tiegs car, that’s what we like to see. Good weekend overall. Chicago’s next and that’s a big one for Old World Industries, PEAK and BlueDEF so really hoping to put on a show there.” Coming in as the No. 1 qualifiers, Brittany Force and the Flav-R-Pac team started race day with a solid 3.694-second pass at 334.82 mph to win her first eliminations quad. Doug Foley would advance to the second round with Force after a 3.779 at 296.76 while Clay Millican’s 5.628 at 131.79 and Antron Brown’s 6.346 at 103.86 wouldn’t be enough. -30-
