The manufacturer and driver championships were wrapped up at the Milwaukee Mile, with Álex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing) winning his fourth straight and fifth career Astor Cup. There is still plenty to play for, though, with Chevrolet-powered drivers Christian Lundgaard (Arrow McLaren), Pato O’Ward (Arrow McLaren) and David Malukas (Team Penske) battling HRC and Andretti Global’s Kyle Kirkwood for second in the championship. Only four points separate Lundgaard, Kirkwood and O’Ward. The driver of the No. 7 VELO Arrow McLaren Chevrolet (Lundgaard) has a two-point lead over the driver of the No. 27 Sam’s Club Andretti Global Honda (Kirkwood), with the driver of the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet (Pato O’Ward) four points adrift of his teammate and nipping at Kirkwood’s heels. | Rounding Out The Ovals David Malukas (Team Penske) led a strong Team Chevy contingent for the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES oval crown, with Chevrolet-powered drivers taking five of the top points spots. Pato O’Ward (Arrow McLaren), twice a visitor to victory lane at the Milwaukee Mile last weekend, came close to Malukas, but the first-year Team Penske driver’s consistency paid off. Malukas’s average finish in the six oval races was a series-best 3.5, including a quartet of podium finishes and a worst finish of seventh. O’Ward’s worst oval finish was 11th, and his average finish on the ovals was 4.7, the third lowest in the series. Scott McLaughlin (Team Penske), like his teammate Malukas, used consistency to score the third most oval points and had an average oval finishing position of 4.3, the second-lowest. He finished inside the top five of the last five oval events on the calendar and had a worst finish of eighth in the first oval race of the year at Phoenix Raceway. Josef Newgarden won oval races at Phoenix Raceway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, but failed to finish the Indianapolis 500 and the second race at the Milwaukee Mile, limiting him to fourth in oval points scored.
