Stotz Racing–Update

The NHDRO Nationals May 13-15 were in Indy at Lucas Oil Raceway. Our first race of the season and the weather was forecast for 48 on Saturday and 54 on Sunday. Indy is a great track but at 50° it’s usually hard to stay hooked past the 1/8th mile. This could work in our favor as cold weather is good for horsepower but tricky on traction. We set the bike up safe and Bud on a Busa went a 6.92, Frankie on our CBR100rr went 6.93 and Justin on a Busa went a 6.94 with the current record of 6.84 still standing. Then Mark Paquette went 6.77 in the first round of eliminations to blow the record away. Mark took Frankie out in the next round, Bud in the Semi-final and won the race.

We did not think the cold track would hold past the 1/8th mile, but obviously it did. We run record times to the 1/8th. The first 1/8th mile is mostly Horsepower/Weight vs traction and wheelies. The last 1/8th to the 1/4 mile finish line is Horsepower vs Aerodynamic drag. Our Blackbird was one of the slipperiest bikes ever, helping us set the very First 200MPH ProStreet Bike National Record. A fan asked us why we only went 210 mph at our reported 503 Horsepower, when he’s heard of the big bore bikes having over 700 HP at over 215 mph. I showed him the math. Our 1000cc bike vs the approximate 1400cc bikes. They have 1.4 times (or 40%) more motor. Our 503 hp times 1.4 would net us 704hp if we had the same size motors. We are right there with them horsepower/cc, but that still puts us a little short on horse power to weight ratio. Frankie and the bike weigh 565lbs. 503 hp divided by 565lbs is 0.89hp/lbs. The 215+ mph bikes are approx. 704 hp divided by minimum weight of 675 lbs bike & rider is 1.04hp/lbs. Considering we are a little short on HP/Weight and yet again in HP/Air Drag, and we run in the low 6.90’s to their 6.84 (old record) we are very efficient with our little HondaCBR1000rr. Our next race is in St. Louis June 3-5, where we will have the new more efficient turbo. Hp equals mph, so stay tuned and see what we do in St. Louis.
