JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DRIVE TO END HUNGER CHEVROLET SS – Finished 2nd
HOW MUCH FUN WAS THAT BATTLE WITH KYLE LARSON? “Oh my gosh. I was having a pretty good time watching him and Kevin (Harvick) go at it in front of me. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I thought for sure there was going to be a wreck. But that’s just two guys that are wheeling it. I’m really proud of Kyle Larson. Man, what a great effort; such a young talent. I really wanted to see him win that race because I like him, but I didn’t want to see those other guys win it either. But we had a couple restarts and this Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet was really solid. The whole team effort was extremely solid. And that’s a great way to get started, especially with restarts like that to come out second. Brad (Keselowski) is really strong and Joey (Logano) is really strong in those short runs, and we had them beat I think, prior to that. Kevin (Harvick), well, maybe (Kyle) Larson, too, had us all beat prior to that. But still we were a top three or four all day long so to come in second, I couldn’t be more proud of this Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet team. And I want to say thank you to every name that’s on this hood that’s helping us to end hunger.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Chicago–Post Race →

JFR SET TO START COUNTDOWN WITH TOP HALF QUAL SPOTS
CHARLOTTE, NC – Robert Hight saved his best for last on Saturday at the 7th annual Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals jumping from the middle of the Funny Car pack to the No. 2 qualified position. Hight knew he would have to race Mello Yello points leader John Force if he did not dramatically improve the position of his Auto Club Ford Mustang Funny Car. The winningest driver in zMax Dragway history moved away from Force and into a first round race with Chad Head. He defeated Head in the first round of last year’s Charlotte race and he went on to win the race. Hight’s four wins at zMax Dragway, including the last two races contested here are the most by any driver in any pro category. FIRST DAY OF COUNTDOWN HAS JFR IN SOLID POSITION
CHARLOTTE, NC – The 2014 Countdown began at zMax Dragway today and the John Force Racing contingent made positive steps to defend their Funny Car Mello Yello championship. All three Funny Cars are in the top half of a very competitive field and the Castrol EDGE dragster is in the top sixteen with weather looming for tomorrow.
The Auto Club team came out aggressively on Friday at the 7th annual Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals but tricky track conditions tripped up the No. 2 team in the Funny Car points in the opening qualifying session. Robert Hight’s Funny Car hazed the tire just past half-track and crossed the finish line with a pedestrian elapsed time of 7.000 seconds.
“We were in the last pair with John and Courtney had run 4.15 a few pairs in front of us. We wanted to get a good number and we just hazed the tires. We got it together for the second run we were just up a little too early,” said Hight.

John Force Racing Looks Toward z-Max Raceway

FORCE REVVED UP FOR ANOTHER COUNTDOWN RUN
With 16 NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car championships under his belt, one would think John Force is going to back down it down a bit and not be at wide open throttle all the time. Especially since John secured his spot in the ever critical Countdown to the Championship during the NHRA Sonoma Nationals back in July. The winningest driver in NHRA history has won just about everything during his illustrious racing career while rewriting the record books by shattering track ET and speed records.
So why is John Force chomping at the bit to get strapped in his 8000 horsepower Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang Funny Car during this weekend’s Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals? It’s simple, as long as he has air in his lungs, this 65 year-old racer will be blasting down drag strips at over 300 mph and competing with one goal in mind – to win races and championships.
