Scelzi, who was driving for the Van Lare Family, kicked off the California Civil War Sprint Car Series event by qualifying sixth quickest.

“I haven’t raced at Petaluma very much and it’s been really different every time I’ve been there,” he said. “We went out and qualified pretty good. I didn’t put down the best laps. I think we had a little more speed in the car, but it was a solid time.” Continue reading Scelzi Inching Closer to First Win of Season Following Strong Outing at Petaluma

Scelzi Nearly Captures First Victory of Season at Keller Auto Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi was so close to earning his first victory of the season last Saturday that he could almost taste it.

Unfortunately, a mechanical problem appeared just after the midpoint of the feature at Keller Auto Speedway that left Scelzi and car owner Nick McColloch with a DNF.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t win because I felt like that was our race to win,” Scelzi said. “On the other hand with it being our first night in that car, we got better every time we hit the track. All in all, I can’t be too upset with it. I want to thank Nick for the opportunity.”

The night began with Scelzi qualifying seventh quickest. Continue reading Scelzi Nearly Captures First Victory of Season at Keller Auto Speedway

Giovanni Scelzi Charges From 12th to Runner-Up Result at Keller Auto Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi tied his career-best sprint car finish last Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway.

Scelzi piloted a Roth Motorsports owned race car during the event, which began with a 12th place qualifying result.

“The track was really tricky in qualifying,” he said. “We talked about what we wanted to do. I felt like I made good laps. I executed what we talked about, but we were a little off. It was not good to start that far behind the eight ball.”

Scelzi rebounded from the slow start to the night. He placed second in a heat race to start the main event on the outside of the sixth row.

“We had a really, really good car where I could maneuver through the field,” he said. “It was pretty gradual. There was a long green flag run and we got up to second when we had a restart with five laps to go. I had one shot at the leader, but it wouldn’t have been a clean slider so I didn’t go for it.”

Scelzi finished with a runner-up result, which marked his 18th top five of the season. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/f7J7lRzVvzw.

“I feel like I’m racing people better,” he said. “The first few times when I got podiums I started toward the front and I didn’t have to pass anybody. Coming from 12th to second was a good confidence boost.

“I want to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for the opportunity and Eric, Cory, Brent and Todd for their help.”

Scelzi is scheduled to return to his family owned sprint car this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif.

Giovanni Scelzi Almost Earns 20th Top 10 Before Mechanical Woes Strike

Giovanni Scelzi Almost Earns 20th Top 10 Before Mechanical Woes Strike

Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (Aug. 22, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi nearly registered his 20th top-10 finish of the season last Friday at Plaza Park Raceway.

Unfortunately, a mechanical problem derailed the team throughout the micro sprint event at the fast bullring.

“The track was really hooked up and rough throughout the night,” he said. “Our motor gradually got worse as the night went on.”

Scelzi kicked off the action by qualifying third quickest overall. However, the engine woes slowed him in a heat race as he placed fifth to miss the feature inversion by only one spot.

“On Lap 3 or 4 of the heat race I got passed and I just couldn’t catch the guy in front of me,” he said. “We rode around in eighth for most of the main event. With about five laps to go there was a red flag and the motor was really hot so I just pulled off.”

Scelzi elected to exit the race early to avoid damaging his engine and he was credited with a 12th-place result.

His next scheduled race is set for Sept. 17 at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where he will pilot a winged sprint car for Roth Motorsports.

Scelzi Set for Wisconsin Tripleheader This Weekend at Wilmot and Angell Park

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (Aug. 15, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi has one more weekend in the Upper Midwest before he starts his journey back to California.

Scelzi will race his Roth Motorsports backed, family owned sprint car this Friday and Saturday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., and Sunday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., with the IRA Series and World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“I think throughout the whole trip this summer we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs,” he said. “We’ve definitely learned a lot. Going to two new tracks will be a good way to start our way back home.

“I’ve seen a lot of video from Wilmot. It looks like an extremely racy track. And I’m excited to race at Angell Park as well. It’ll be a lot of fun to race with the IRA Series as well as the World of Outlaws.”

After this weekend’s tripleheader Scelzi will head to North Dakota, Washington and Oregon with the World of Outlaws before the series makes its final visit to his home state of California next month.

“I really enjoy racing back here and I’ve learned so much,” he said. “I wish it wasn’t over. I hope next year I can come back to Ohio, Knoxville and all these places out here. It’s been great for me to learn all these tracks and race with the great drivers. Hopefully we can end the trip with some strong performances.”

Giovanni Scelzi Caught Up in Crash While Competing for Podium at Plaza Park

Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (Aug. 15, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi was in contention for a podium finish last Friday at Plaza Park Raceway before he was caught up in a late-race crash.

Scelzi kicked off the micro sprint event by qualifying third quickest. He then advanced from third to second place in a heat race to make the feature inversion, which lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“We were fighting mechanical problems all night,” he said. “We were running third with about three laps to go. The guy in front of us wrecked and we were involved in it. He spun backwards and backed up the track and pinned me between him and the fence.”

The incident occurred in turn one and the damage was too much for Scelzi to resume racing. He was credited with a 15th-place finish.

“It bent the left front radius rod so the arm fell off the axle and we didn’t have any front suspension,” he said. “It was a really rough race track. It would have been pretty good to hold on for third, but sometimes that happens in racing.”

Scelzi Returning to Action at Attica Raceway Park and Wayne County Speedway

Scelzi Returning to Action at Attica Raceway Park and Wayne County Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (July 28, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi is rejuvenated following a weekend off to rebuild his race program.

The team will return to action this weekend with a pair of races in Ohio on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica and Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville.

“We were low on equipment with a couple of nights of bad luck,” he said. “It’s the nature of the beast when you’re on those big, fast tracks. We spent the last week and a half rebuilding our race team. I look forward to getting back on the track this weekend.”

Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed team are also changing their plan throughout the next month. They will pick up various regional races in Ohio and the Midwest and will skip the Knoxville Nationals before joining the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series through North Dakota and along the West Coast in August and September.

“We’re going to take it week by week and try to return to some tracks we’ve only gone to once to see our growth,” Scelzi said. “We’re going to stick to racing two or three times a week and at places we’ve been before rather than a new track every week.”

Scelzi has competed at each of this weekend’s tracks once, which was during Ohio Speedweek with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions last month. Scelzi finished seventh in the B Main at Attica Raceway Park to narrowly miss a transfer into the main event and he posted a 13th-place result at Wayne County Speedway.

“We were running eighth at Wayne County and I hit a hole, which spun the car out,” he said. “I think we would have had a top 10 if that hadn’t happened. Hopefully we can go back and earn a top 10 at each track to build some momentum.”
