Scelzi Regrouping after Running into Rough Luck throughout Kings Royal

Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 18, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi and his Roth Motorsports backed team will take this weekend off to regroup following a rough 33rd annual Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway.

“We’re out of cars and we’re out of parts,” he said. “We’re going to have to regroup and hopefully get back to racing the following weekend. The best thing we can do is get back to the track and hopefully change our luck around.”

Last weekend’s World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader began on Thursday when Scelzi qualified 18th quickest in his group before placing 10th in a heat race. That relegated him to the C Main.

“We went down into the first corner and got involved in a big crash,” he said. “We hurt the car there.”

Scelzi was unable to finish the night and the team worked hard to fix the damage prior to Friday’s race, which Scelzi opened by timing in 15th quickest in his group before ending fifth in a heat race. That sent him into the B Main.

“We qualified a little better and raced better in the heat race,” he said. “I felt like we improved and gained. In the B Main the track was really slick and it took me a majority of the race to get rolling and knowing what we needed to do.”

Scelzi finished 12th and he rolled into Saturday’s $50,000-to-win finale with a lot of lessons learned from the first two nights.

“It was a big learning experience,” he said. “It seemed like the pill draw hurt us the first couple of nights along with not having much experience around that place.”

Scelzi kicked off the Saturday event by qualifying 36th quickest, which was only six positions out of the heat race inversion that would have started him on the pole of a heat race with the opportunity to make the big show.

“I felt like I put down a good lap in qualifying,” he said. “It was the best I felt around the place. Unfortunately, we were 36th quick. The 35 guys in front of me had a lot of experience. That just puts you behind the eight ball.”

Scelzi placed sixth in his heat race, which ended up starting him toward the back of the B Main.

“I felt like I had a couple of good starts in the B Main,” he said. “I was running the top in turns three and four. I made a bobble and got in the cushion wrong and it bit me. I was running against the wall and got into it too hard with the right rear and it threw the car into the wall and off she goes.”

Scelzi’s crash ended the night early for the team as he was unable to finish the B Main.

“We learned a ton throughout the Kings Royal and I feel like we’ll be better the next time we go to Eldora,” he said. “We’re going to work hard to get everything built back up so we can get back on the track soon.”
