Giovanni Scelzi Rallies to Top-10 Result at Adobe Cup

Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (Oct. 10, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi had a strong rebound to his debut at Petaluma Speedway last Saturday during the Adobe Cup.

Scelzi, who was driving for Van Dyke Motorsports for the first time, opened the night by being penalized a row for what officials deemed jumping the start of his heat race. He finished fourth in the race, which relegated the team to the B Main.

“I thought it was good to get 12 more laps around the place,” he said. “I was timid on the start (of the B Main) because I didn’t want to get the start sent back. I ran around in second the whole race and then reeled the leader in toward the end. It was a good test session for me getting more laps.”

Scelzi placed second in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the back of the main event.

“The track was pretty hooked up,” he said. “We picked cars off one by one. I was running the top at both ends. When they’d get bottled up I’d pass cars. It was a good end to the night.”

Scelzi charged from 16th to record the ninth-place result, which marked his 21st top 10 of the season.

“I want to thank Harley for the opportunity to drive for him,” he said. “I hope we get to work together again in the future.”

Scelzi will return to action this Friday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where he will pilot a sprint car for Roth Motorsports. He has earned two podiums and five top fives at the track this season.
