PERMATEX/FOLLOW A DREAM TEAM BACK AT POMONA FOR 1ST TIME IN 5 YEARS

Jay Blake’s Permatex/Follow A Dream team heads to the birthplace of drag racing, the Los Angeles area, for the final race of the 2014 season, the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., where the team was runner-up in 2005 and won it all in 2006. It’s the first appearance in six weeks for the team, whose season was highlighted by victory at Lebanon Valley Dragway, where they scored for the second year in a row and the third time in five years.
“We’ve had some great moments at Pomona,” said Blake, who spoke at the Veteran’s Hospital in Long Beach, Calif., and at the Universal Technical Institute in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., earlier this week. “Permatex’s sponsorship made it possible for us to bring Follow A Dream’s message of the power of positive thinking and self-determination to veterans and to the students at UTI. I was part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony at UTI for their new veteran’s building, and none of that would have been possible without Permatex’s involvement with our team.”
It also made possible a lifelong dream for driver Todd Veney, a Southern California native who’s competing at the historic Pomona track for the first time ever. “The first national event I ever went to was right here at the Winternationals in 1972,” he said. “I was born out here, lived here until I was 10, and moved right back out to L.A. the day after I graduated from college, and I’ve always wanted to race here.”
Qualifying begins Thursday and concludes with two sessions on Friday. The first round is Saturday, and final eliminations are set for Sunday.

Desire to win burns strong for Anderson as season comes to a close

Mooresville, N.C., November 11, 2014 – The 2014 season of NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series was a most unusual year for Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson. The four-time world champion had to sit out the first five races of the year as he recovered from open-heart surgery, and although the delayed start was vital to his health, it was an admittedly difficult three-month period for a man driven by an intense hunger for victory on the racetrack. As the 50th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals come into view, Anderson is ablaze with renewed optimism for a final chance at a trophy in 2014. JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 AXALTA CHEVROLET SS – Finished 2nd:
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON NOT MOVING ON TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND IN HOMESTEAD, YOU ONLY MISSED IT BY ONE POINT:
“Yeah, it’s disappointing. We have a lot to hold our heads up high about; the way that we raced this race and this whole Chase and the whole season. We raced hard. We raced together as a team. But I hope we taught somebody that you can race clean and still go out there and give it your best. You don’t have to wreck people to make it in the Chase or win the championship. I’m afraid if it was that ugly these last couple of weeks it’s going to get really ugly next week. I couldn’t be more proud of this Axalta Chevrolet team and Alan Gustafson (crew chief) and everybody. This makes last week hurt that much more. But we did everything we could at Martinsville. We did everything we could here, second just wasn’t good enough. (Kevin) Harvick was in another zip code. There was nobody that was going to get him today. We did a great job finishing second. You know what I’m not happy about it, but at the same time I’m really proud of what we have done this year and we will go try to win Homestead and end this season on a positive note.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Phoenix–Post Race

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 AXALTA CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 7TH
For qualifying, we didn’t have any expectations there. We definitely expected the car to be a little better in practice today. It had such good grip in the middle when we were testing, and that’s where we were lacking today. The balance is off but the team made some good adjustments and especially there for qualifying. That was a good improvement. We just needed another chunk there and we’d be right there. I’m pretty optimistic about tomorrow and getting it right for Sunday.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Phoenix–Jeff Gordon

GIVE US YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE RACE AT PHOENIX THIS WEEKEND
“I just look forward tot this opportunity. It’s a good race track. I said before Martinsville started that I thought we had an equal opportunity at Martinsville, Texas, and Phoenix. I have been to Victory Lane once at each track and feel confident based on our run at the spring race here; what I really call our first true run and race together as a team because Daytona is a unique situation in itself. THOUGHTS ON COMING TO PHOENIX:
“We are excited. I think last week was a little bit unexpected just for the fact that we made up a lot more ground than I think we anticipated going in (to Texas). Came up a little bit short on the win, but we couldn’t pick a better race track for us to come to next and need to try and win a race. We are really excited. TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS ON COMING INTO THIS WEEKEND’S RACE:
“Excited to be here, especially after our performance at Texas and then even back a few days our test session that we had in Miami. We did test here. It didn’t go exactly how we wanted, but the last 10 days we have learned a lot about our race cars. I’m feeling very optimistic about how our Lowe’s Chevy is going to run here this weekend. The No. 24 had an incredible test and I really expect him to be fast and clearly something that he and that team need to have for this weekend. I had a great week. Spent some time out here in this direction I should say. I was on the West Coast. I went to the SEMA show for Chevrolet and unveiled a really cool Stingray Corvette, ’71 Corvette and then had a photo shoot for a sponsor and stuff. It’s been nice to be out west and I’m ready to go racing.”

TALK A LITTLE ABOUT COMING INTO PHOENIX THIS WEEKEND.
“Yeah, I’m excited to be here at Phoenix. I enjoy this track. I haven’t ran all that great here but I do enjoy it. Hopefully we can have a good weekend. I walked by the car; we have some camo on it so that’s pretty cool. I’d like to keep the top-10s going. We’ve been running really strong in the Chase. Had we been in the Chase, we’d be in this round right now and right in the thick of things to make it to Homestead. Even though we’re not in the chase, we’re still trying to treat it like we are and trying to do the best job to make it to the next round, even though we won’t. The last two races will be fun. Phoenix I enjoy and Homestead is my favorite. Hopefully we can finish off the year strong.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Phoenix–Kyle Larson
