FROM THE RECOVERY ON PIT ROAD, THIS WAS DEFINITELY A WORK IN PROGRESS:
“Yeah it was. Forgive me because my voice has been gone all day and I woke up with a cold but just a great, great race car. I just want to give a shout out to all the pros that shop at Lowe’s and to the folks at Lowe’s Pro Services, to Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports and Valvoline because we have had an awesome, awesome start to the year. The end results don’t show it but the great support from our fans, our sponsors…..Gatorade as well and Kobalt Tools. We just kept plugging at it and I think the off-week was good for us to sit down and relax, reboot and come back to the track and they brought me a fast race car that was good all weekend.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas Post Race

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S PRO SERVICES CHEVROLET SS – WINNER

We just kept plugging at it and I think the off-week was good for us to sit down and relax, reboot and come back to the track and they brought me a fast race car that was good all weekend.”

WERE YOU EVER CONCERNED THAT YOU WERE GOING TO GET THIS CAR BACK OUT FRONT?
“I thought we were in big trouble once we restarted. The No. 4 (Kevin Harvick) went up through there and got to the lead. I just couldn’t go anywhere. I got so tight. We weren’t sure if it was a bad set of tires. We felt like we had a set that didn’t match up with us earlier in the race. So, we made no adjustments. We went out the next restart and the car was a little better, but made an adjustment. Then that last pit stop we made the right adjustment. I caught the No. 4 (Harvick) racing with the No. 1 (Jamie McMurray). I was able to get by both of those guys and check out. It was an exciting race. I hope the fans really enjoyed that one.”

TALK ABOUT RACING WITH THE NO. 4 AND NO. 88:
“Yeah, the No. 88 (Dale Earnhardt, Jr.) was making the bottom work, so I was trying to make that happen. The No. 4 (Harvick) all of a sudden was in second and coming hard on the top. So, I moved up top to try and make that work and I looked in the mirror off to (Turn) 2 and I saw the No. 4 in the wall. I figured that was the end of him and then he and the No. 88 (Earnhardt, Jr.) raced each other so hard at the end. Just good fun. I think that the No. 88, the No. 4 all of us that were involved in that there at the end just had a blast. That is how racing should be and I’m so happy the fans got to see that.”

Tequila Patrón ESM
Qualifies for 6 Hours of Silverstone

Silverstone, England – April 11, 2015 – In its first 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) qualifying session of the season, Tequila Patrón ESM will start fifth and eighth for the 6 Hours of Silverstone race on Sunday, April 12.

In what was described as a “typical Silverstone day”, early rain showers greeted the team on Saturday morning. The Tequila Patrón ESM team opted to not participate in the wet practice. The weather cleared for a sunny, yet Silverstone-cool qualifying session.

Per the FIA WEC rules, the quickest lap time from each team’s qualifying drivers are averaged in order to determine the starting position.

Ryan Dalziel and David Heinemeier Hansson qualified the No. 30 Tequila Patrón ESM Honda Performance Development (HPD) ARX-03b. The average lap time of the No. 30 team was 151.551, resulting in a fifth-place start in the LMP2 class. Dalziel and Heinemeier Hansson are co-driving with Tequila Patrón ESM driver/owner Scott Sharp during the six-hour endurance challenge on Sunday.

The No. 30 car made some changes after Friday’s two practice sessions. Opting to sit out the final practice because of the rain, the team did not test the car following post-practice adjustments and struggled with mechanical issues during qualifying. The team will inspect the prototype and revert to the settings from Friday.

Ed Brown and Jon Fogarty qualified the No. 31 Tequila Patrón ESM Honda Performance Development (HPD) ARX-03b. Fogarty opened the session with clean laps, yet Brown experienced a braking issue during his qualifying segment. The average lap time of the No. 31 team was 155.491, resulting in a ninth-place start in the LMP2 class. Brown and Fogarty are co-driving with David Brabham this weekend. Season-long co-driver Johannes van Overbeek was unable to race to do a recent non-racing rib injury.

Green flag for the 6 Hours of Silverstone takes place at noon BST/7 a.m. ET on Sunday.

World of Outlaws–Jason Meyers, Cody Darrah Fill-In at Calistoga Speedway

Jason Meyers, Cody Darrah Fill-In at Calistoga Speedway
Meyers takes over for Jason Johnson, Darrah for Daryn Pittman following injuries at Placerville Speedway
CALISTOGA, Calif. – April 10, 2015 – As the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series rolls into Calistoga (Calif.) Speedway for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown this weekend, two former series regulars, Jason Meyers and Cody Darrah, will join the field, filling in for injured drivers Jason Johnson and Daryn Pittman.

Meyers, a two-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion and only series champion from California, will fill in for Johnson through the series’ final four races in the Golden State.

“This is certainly not the circumstance I would have liked to be able to get back in the racecar but I am grateful to be able to help out and support Jason, Bobbi and their team,” Meyers said. “I look forward to getting them some good finishes close to home and be of help to the team.”

Johnson sustained a fractured back in a crash at Placerville Speedway on Wednesday. The driver has left the hospital but a timetable for his return is still uncertain. Johnson’s wife Bobbi said doctors have told them Johnson’s recovery will likely take between six and 12 weeks.

The team will stay out with the series with support from sponsors Priority Aviation, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Fischer Body Shop, the Saich Family, Waco Metal, Dissolve Alloy and all other Jason Johnson Racing sponsors.

Meyers has 57 career Outlaws wins and series championships in 2010 and 2011.

Darrah will fill-in for Pittman, who sustained a broken collarbone in the same crash at Placerville, this weekend at Calistoga.

“It’s one of the tough things about our sport,” Darrah said. “We wish Daryn well as he goes into surgery today. To be able to fill-in for him is an honor. I’m happy to be out here to keep the seat warm for him while he gets better.”

Darrah, a former full-time Kasey Kahne Racing with Mike Curb driver, is the 2011 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year recipient and a seven time series winner. He is running for his family-owned team in the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions this season.

KURT BUSCH, NO. 41 HAAS AUTOMATION CHEVROLET SS – POLE WINNER
WAS THIS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF HOW YOU, TONY GIBSON AND YOUR GUYS KEPT UP WITH THE TRACK? “Everything is so tight in qualifying. I wanted to run the same time each time out. With the track continuing to change, with the sun and the shade, then the track rubber built up, air pressures are changing and tires are dropping off… everybody chipped in. The guys at the track, the guys at the shop, the tire guy, the engine guy, everyone chipped in. That’s what this is all about – getting that little extra. We did that with our Haas Automation Chevrolet today. Thanks to Gene (Haas). The second pole of the year feels good. Now we need to dial it in and get that long-run speed out of the car.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pole Report

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, NO. 2 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET: IS THE TRACK HOTTER OR COOLER THAN IT WAS WHEN YOU TESTED HERE? “Hotter, a lot hotter. We are sliding around a lot more. I am surprised…it felt like the track was really green. That really surprised me to be honest. If you think about it, we came here once with aero kit. Our first day ever with the aero kit was here. We had no real idea of what we needed to do or anything. Right now it is hard because the track is really slow as well. Every time we come here, it seems to be that way. I thought it would be a little better even being a green race track, and even the heat on it because people ran yesterday, we thought the track would be a little better. We were miles off. We are getting there, but it is a couple of seconds off, but it is going to keep getting quicker.”

HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING TO PREP FOR YOUR DEBUT IN THE BOOTH FOR TONIGHT’S XFINITY SERIES RACE?
“They had a production meeting this morning. I got a chance to sit in on that, but other than that just being around the sport as many years as I have. I guess being a couch commentator that is about the only preparation that I have done. It’s going to be a unique experience. I look forward to it. KEVIN KALKHOVEN, TEAM CO-OWNER, KV RACING TECHNOLOGY AND STEFANO COLETTI, NO. 4 KVRT CHEVROLET, met with members of the media at NOLA Motorsports Park to announce Variable Bore Rams signing as primary sponsor for the Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana.

STEFANO COLETTI, NO. 4 VARIABLE BORE RAMS – KVRT CHEVROLET
YOU’RE NEW TO THE VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES BUT YOU’RE ALREADY LANDING NEW SPONSORS. HOW EXCITING IS THIS?
“I’m very excited to have Variable Bore Rams on the car. They are from Louisana, and the team is helping me a lot this year with sponsors. I met Chip (Marshall Jr.) a few months ago when he came here to drive IndyCars. We got along pretty well and I’m happy that he’s on board for this race.”

YOU HAVEN’T BEEN OUT ON THE TRACK YET THIS WEEK BUT YOU HAVE TESTED. WHAT ARE YOU IMPRESSIONS?
“All the changes they made to the track are great. They put a lot of gravel beds around and moved some tire barriers around to make it a lot safer. I like the track. The first time I came here, I thought the track was a lot of fun to drive. It’s going to be better this way. There are still some improvements to do, but they’ve come a long way. We have to thank the people from the track for making all these efforts.”

HOW MANY PLACES ARE THERE TO PASS?
“To be honest, Turn 1 will be one of the biggest ones because you’re coming down the straight pretty fast and you have a pretty big braking point. Plus with the timing line they put on the outside of Turn 1 and avoiding us going wide, that will make the corner even slower so that’s where we’ll be able to pass a lot. I think the braking after the backstraight as well will be another one, and maybe between Turn 3 and Turn 4.”

KEVIN KALKHOVEN, TEAM CO-OWNER, KV RACING TECHNOLOGY
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE STRONG START TO THE SEASON AND HOW STRONG BOTH CARS RAN AT ST. PETERSBURG?
“Obviously there is still a development base of knowledge we need to get with the new aero kits. We’re not there yet. However, I will say that Sebastien (Bourdais) has really come to grips with it. Stefano’s attitude is that ‘I have a right foot and that’s all I’m going to use!’ So we need to change that a little bit, particularly when he comes into the pits! No, we’re excited about Stefano. He has a great personality and fits in well with the team and leads his team extremely well. He’ll show a progressive development in driving an IndyCar over the course of the next few races, starting here I hope.”

Automotive Racing Products (ARP) of Ventura, California, supported a presentation on performance fastener technology at California’s Long Beach City College (LBCC) Society of Manufacturing Engineers Club (SME) on March 17, 2015.

Jean Genibrel, a lifelong racing professional and Vice President of the LBCC’s SME Auto Racing Technology Club delivered the presentation to the group. The group was established as a support to a Multi Disciplinary Program, (MDP), headed by Mr. Tim Shoemaker, (tshoemaker@lbcc.edu) that offers classes and certifications in computer aided drafting, metal forming and welding.

ARP’s technology and solutions to fastener engineering, installation and identification dove-tailed nicely with the variety of disciplines endemic to many professions the students endeavor to master.

The proper installation techniques and tightening procedures of threaded fasteners were covered along with their relevance to the technologies the students vie to enter such as aerospace, aircraft and auto racing. The students became aware of the importance of using the proper fasteners and their installation when they design, fabricate or machine parts.

Jean explained: “The notion that a threaded bolt or stud must be stretched an engineered amount to yield a tension equivalent to the clamping force necessary to at least equal the force applied to the parts the fasteners are clamping was totally foreign to the students, even to the engineering ones and to the instructors present.”

The Long Beach City College Multidisciplinary Curriculum is the one that was formed to attract displaced workers, Veterans and other individuals interested in training in a selected group of related disciplines for eventual employment in a variety of industries from aircraft, aerospace, automotive and auto racing.
