Wood Brothers Racing–Daytona Rain Ends Wood Brothers’ Seven-Year Streak of Qualifying Success

Daytona Rain Ends Wood Brothers’ Seven-Year Streak of Qualifying Success

July 4, 2015

Ryan Blaney and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion won’t be in Sunday’s Coke Zero 400, but it’s not because of a lack of performance on the part of Blaney and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team. Instead it’s Mother Nature who has been unusually kind to the team in recent seasons. On Saturday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway, threatening skies led NASCAR officials to cancel qualifying and set the field according to the rules that give the allotted starting spots to teams that run full-time. Under the current format, the lineup is set based on the previous day’s first practice speeds, with the fastest car in qualifying starting first and so on. The field is predetermined before the lineup is set; however, based on the number of race attempts each team has made, with the cars making the most attempts eligible before the ones that have run less. It’s the first time the Wood Brothers have failed to qualify for a race for any reason since the team went to a part-time status seven years ago. JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 AXALTA CHEVROLET SS met with media and discussed his final race behind the wheel at Daytona, the drivers council, track safety enhancements, and more. Full Transcript:

THIS IS YOUR FINAL RUN AT DAYTONA. TALK ABOUT THAT
“Yeah, definitely. This track is extremely special to me. Of course we all know how much this track means to our sport. And I’m pretty bummed that it (qualifying) rained out. We were on a heck of a streak this year, with two poles on the superspeedways. I wanted to keep that going and I felt like yesterday our car had some really good speed and that we had a shot at doing that. I’ll start 24th. That’s not a bad place to start. So, yeah, it’s hard for me to really put all those thoughts and feelings into perspective, knowing that I have half the season still to go. I don’t think it’s really going to hit me until we get further down into the final part of the season, but this place has meant a lot. It’s going to be tough not coming back here and being behind the wheel. But I’m also really excited about calling this race next February.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona– Jeff Gordon

WHEN YOU GO OUT IN THAT FIRST PRACTICE SESSION KNOWING THAT IS GOING TO SET THE LINE-UP FOR THE FIELD IF THE WEATHER TURNS SOUTH. DO YOU PUT ANY EXTRA EFFORT OUT THERE TO PUT UP THAT BIG NUMBER?
“I asked Greg (Ives, crew chief) before we went out to practice what we were trying to accomplish in that first practice and that was the first thing he mentioned was to go out that first run and try to put a lap down because the weather wasn’t looking real good for today. That was his decision. It ended up working out for us.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Qualifying

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 COCA-COLA CHEVROLET SS met with media and discussed his year so far and desire to get his first Cup win and make it into the Chase, his approach to racing on superspeedways, his best moments thus far in the Cup Series, and more. Full Transcript:

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE THE COCA-COLA COLORS ON YOUR CAR THIS WEEKEND?
“It’s good. They are similar to our Target colors. It won’t be hard for my spotter to find me out there (laughs). Yeah, it’s cool to have Coke a part of the Target family this year. It’s pretty neat to be part of that. For this race, too, it’s neat to drive a Coke car out there and get some more recognition, and hopefully have a good finish. Daytona is my least statistical track, probably, with not really ever finishing a race here. But, I’ve learned more and more every time I go on a superspeedway, so I’m excited to get on the track later today and then hopefully have a good race on Sunday. It would be good to make it to the checkered flag in a Sprint Cup race here. I’m just looking forward to it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona–Kyle Larson

JOHN FORCE LOOKING FOR MORE FIREWORKS IN NORWALK
NORWALK, OH (June 29, 2015) — Last year John Force won the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals for the first time and the celebration was as epic as the fireworks the Bader family fires off every Fourth of July weekend. The win technically wasn’t Force’s first at Summit Motorsports Park considering the legendary Funny Car driver has been winning match races at the Ohio area race track for over two decades but it was his first official NHRA Funny Car title. Casey Currie Keeping Up the Heat in Utah

Casey Currie Keeping Up the Heat in Utah
CORONA, California (June 22, 2015) – Coming off of a big weekend in Lake Elsinore Casey Currie headed to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for Rounds 7 & 8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS). The points race is tight in the largest class of short-course off road trucks, and Casey is right at the top. After the rounds at Utah, Casey has continued to put up strong number keeping him right in line for the championship.

Racing on a very technical and difficult track, Casey was able to keep up with the pace and turn in two top ten finishes. In Saturdays’ race, Currie was able to turn in a solid finish and keep the truck out of any accidents. On Sunday, Currie got tangled up early on in the race, but found a way to make several difficult passes around the tight turns and narrow straights of the track.

“Well, it wasn’t exactly the sort of weekend we were looking for, but ultimately we are still putting up strong points and are in the hunt for the championship. There is a lot of talent in this class, and to be in the top 5 in points half way through the season puts the Currie Racing team in a great spot to make a push for the championship,” said Casey.

Continuing to turn in consistent results has put Casey in a great position to contend for the championship in the second half of the 2015 season. With a truck that has stayed out of major wrecks and a team that can make the proper adjustments, Casey is ready to get on the podium and make his mark on the largest Pro class in short-course.
