HIGHT RUNS TO No. 1 ON FRIDAY AT BRAINERD
BRAINERD, MN – For Robert Hight and the Auto Club Ford Mustang team Brainerd International Raceway has not been a track where they have had much success. Hight has never been No. 1 qualifier and it is one of only three tracks he has never even been to a final round. After today’s qualifying performance Hight is encouraged that after ten years his luck might be changing at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. After a sub-par first qualifying session Hight bounced back and ran to the top of the field with a 4.085 second pass.
“I didn’t think that run had a chance of staying on top. I am glad no one was offering to take bets on that because I would have lost. I went back and I told (crew chief) Mike Neff that I believe that will be top half. I really figured everybody would step up because it is cooling down. We were first pair and Bob Bode blew it up so I knew it was going to be 10 or 15 minutes before anyone else ran and this time of day that track temperature is just dropping. Hats off to my guys because that was pretty awesome and I am pretty impressed with that run,” said Hight, the current Mello Yello points leader.

Mopar Racing–Allen Johnson Takes Mopar to Provisional No. 1 Spot at Brainerd International Raceway

Allen Johnson Takes Mopar to Provisional No. 1 Spot at Brainerd International Raceway

· Allen Johnson takes Dodge Dart to provisional No.1 Qualifier spot at 33rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals
· Four-time title winner at Brainerd, Jeg Coughlin Jr. is provisionally fifth while last year’s runner-up V. Gaines is tenth
· Last year’s runner-up finisher Matt Hagan leads Don Schumacher Racing teammates with sixth quickest run in provisional qualifying
· Defending title winner Ron Capps looking for fifth career win at Minnesota track

Brainerd, Minnesota (Aug 15, 2014) – Without a title or a No.1 qualifier position to his credit at Brainerd International Raceway, Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson worked to rectify that as quickly as possible by going to the top of the provisional qualifying timing sheets at the 33rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals with his “Magneti Marelli Offered by Mopar” Dodge Dart.

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 AXALTA CHEVROLET SS – POLE SITTER
“I don’t know how to make it much better than that. This entire Axalta Chevrolet crew just did a phenomenal job. Our first qualifying effort today, and practice, was not good. I’ve been hearing a lot about tire chatter and we had it big-time. The next run out we made some adjustments and it was better. That whole qualifying session, from the first one, second one, and third session, the car was just near perfect. The first one I just didn’t drive it hard enough. The second time I finally did and we made a little slight adjustment there. Alan (Gustafson, crew chief) and the guys just did perfect. This is exciting. To be running this good and have cars that are this great; back-to-back poles from Watkins Glen to Michigan, we’re having a lot of fun right now.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Michigan–Jeff Gordon

A challenging time at Lydden Hill

Lydden Hill, Kent – August 10, 2014 – For the first time in the circuit’s history, Lydden Hill Circuit in Kent would be run in reverse configuration during the fourth round of the 2014 Maxxis British Drift Championship. Rain early in the week in Knoxville slowed the start of the 54th Annual Knoxville Nationals, and as it is every year, the competition was fierce, lots of fans, and lots of racing. Over 100 cars entered this year’s event with the goal of winning the $150,000 A-main on Saturday night.

All three KKR teams made the main event, with Daryn Pittman winning Saturday night’s World Challenge event – with Brad Sweet finishing third – and Sweet also won the hard charger award by advancing 10 positions in the 50-lap race.

Last night the Outlaw tour stopped in McCool Junction, Nebraska. Brad Sweet challenged for the win coming home in fourth, while Pittman collected another top-10 finish. Cody Darrah won the team appointed “Kitchen Sink” award as everything but the kitchen sink was thrown at the team throughout the night. The 4 team never gave up and came home 14th.

Giovanni Scelzi Fights Mechanical Issues and Track Conditions at Lemoore

Inside Line Promotions – LEMOORE, Calif. (Aug. 10, 2014) – To say Giovanni Scelzi had his most frustrating outing of the season last weekend would be an understatement.

Scelzi battled mechanical issues and poor track conditions on Saturday at Lemoore Raceway.

“The track was terrible,” he said. “It took rubber in the heat races. They reworked it and it took rubber by the first main event.”

The night began with Scelzi showcasing speed during the winged micro sprint hot laps. Unfortunately, a problem occurred between then and qualifying, which kept Scelzi from timing in.

“We were the fastest car in hot laps and then we had problems in qualifying,” he said. “We think the clutch was slipping in it. We didn’t want to hurt the motor anymore so we decided to park it.”
