Beckman Drives Mopar to His Third No.1 Qualifier Position of the Season at Las Vegas NHRA Nationals

· Beckman earns his third No.1 Qualifier position of the year with a track record 3.916-second run by the Infinite Hero Dodge Charger R/T at 17th annual NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas
· Following a title win and runner-up finish heading into Las Vegas Capps misses out on Funny Car eliminations after four qualifying attempts
· Enders leads Mopar contingent in qualifying with a fifth place spot on the Pro Stock eliminations ladder for Sunday’s contest at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
· Enders makes it to the second round of eliminations in the Pro Stock’s K&N Horsepower Challenge but sees her round win streak come to an end

Las Vegas (April 2, 2016) – Las Vegas is synonymous with streaks, both good and bad, and performances by Mopar drivers in qualifying at the 17th annual National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals certainly helped add to that reputation.

Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) driver Jack Beckman helped extend the Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car’s consecutive streak of No.1 qualifier positions to four this season with another record setting run, while his teammate Ron Capps, who has one of those pole positions along with two final round appearances so far this year, will miss racing on Sunday for the first time since 2013. Mopar Pro Stock driver Erica Enders saw her incredible round win streak at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway stopped at 23, but is hoping that Sunday will bring an end to the string of first round losses that have plagued her this season. GREG ANDERSON WINS FIFTH K&N HORSEPOWER CHALLENGE

GREG ANDERSON WINS FIFTH K&N HORSEPOWER CHALLENGE

Las Vegas, NV (April 2, 2016) – Greg Anderson won his fifth K&N Horsepower Challenge in his Summit Racing Equipment Camaro today at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He takes home a check for $50,000 and a custom made trophy. He now has more K&N Horsepower Challenge wins than any other Pro Stock driver.

“I just love this race. It is so much fun. You don’t have to worry about points you are just racing for a big check,” said Anderson. “This is a great start to the weekend for us. Feel like I’ve just won at the big craps table.”

Anderson faced his KB Racing teammate Jason Line for an all-Summit Racing Equipment final. Unfortunately Line’s car encountered problems during his burnout, leaking oil on the track, putting him out of the competition.

Anderson was not the only big winner today. Part of the K&N Horsepower Challenge pairs each driver up with a fan drawn randomly from contestants across the country. When Anderson took the win light, Eva Mack of Pennsylvania won a brand new Toyota Tacoma truck.

“I want to thank the Toyota people for giving away a truck to a lucky fan; that makes you feel better than anything else,” said Anderson. “I feel great about getting to hand over the keys to a lucky lady from Pennsylvania more than anything else.”

Anderson now has the chance to double-up this weekend by winning the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals tomorrow afternoon.

“This is the biggest chance at a payday for us all year long. That gets my blood flowing competing for big money like that,” said Anderson. “It’s a great weekend so far; we’re halfway home. I would love nothing better than to find my way into the winner’s circle and hoist the Denso NHRA Nationals trophy.”

Jason Line nabbed the No. 1 qualifying spot this weekend at the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals securing a spot in the 2017 K&N Horsepower Challenge.

CHEVROLET RACING IN THE VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES
DESERT DIAMOND WEST VALLEY PHOENIX GRAND PRIX
PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY (ARIZONA)
WINNER QUICK QUOTE
SATURDAY, APRIL 2, 2016

SCOTT DIXON, NO. 9 TARGET CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, scored the 39th victory of his career. The defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion has won a race in 12 consecutive seasons, a Series’ record. He led the final 155 laps of tonights 250-lap race, the first at Phoenix International Raceway for the Series since 2005. Quick quote: YOU MADE THAT LOOK EASY, BUT IT WASN’T, WAS IT?
“It was tough. It was definitely one of the toughest races on these short ovals. I definitely think we can make some adjustments to get some more side-by-side stuff going on. But right now, I’m just so happy for the team. Team Target did an amazing job. It’s fantastic to have the lightning bulb back on the car. It’s the first win for this team at Phoenix. Chevy did an amazing job. But I can’t give enough credit to the crew. They did the best they could and I just tried to keep it on the track.”

HOW PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WAS THIS RACE?
“It was a bit of both really. You had different paces. The car was super-fast. We, I think, had the best car out there. We got a lot of it done on strategy in some of the pit stops, but the Target car was just extremely fast the whole night. Yeah, definitely in Turns 1 and 2, there is a lot of loading and I can’t thank the team enough. They did an amazing job.”

THIS IS EARLY-SEASON SUCCESS. YOU’RE NOT USED TO THAT. YOU ARE USED TO TRYING TO MAKE-UP POINTS IN JULY AND AUGUST.
“There’s nothing wrong with that. We definitely had our bad luck; I think at St. Pete, we did with some overheating issues. We’re a strong team. We’re always strong; and if we can figure out the start of the season, I think we’ll definitely make the end a little easier for us. But this is the Verizon Indycar Series; man, it’s tough, no matter what. And you’ve got to get points whenever you can no matter what circumstances. But it’s great to be back in Phoenix. Thanks to all the fans for coming out tonight. I can’t wait to come back next week.”

Impressive Las Vegas winning streak comes to an end for Pro Stock champ Erica Enders

Impressive Las Vegas winning streak comes to an end for Pro Stock champ Erica Enders
LAS VEGAS (April 2) — The streak is over. Long live the streak?

Two-time Pro Stock champion Erica Enders extended her consecutive round-win streak at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to 23 on Saturday before falling to Jason Line in the second round of the K&N Horsepower Challenge, snapping a winning spree that lasted more than two years.

Enders looks to start a new streak on Sunday when she races in the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals, the regular national event here at The Strip.

“I didn’t want it to end but there was a plan that was different than mine,” Enders said. “You know it’s disappointing on one hand, but, wow, what an accomplishment on the other. We’ve got to keep positive and focus on tomorrow.”

LAS VEGAS (April 2) — Five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. is hoping 13 is his lucky number at this weekend’s Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Coughlin and his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart qualified in the No. 13 spot on Saturday.

“Lucky 13 is gonna have to be,” Coughlin said. “Let’s just start there. Nothing has been lucky to this point for us, but as we all know, that can change quickly here in Las Vegas.” Continue reading Jeg Coughlin Jr. is hoping 13 is his lucky number in Las Vegas

Allen Johnson Enters 460th Race in Momentous Career

Allen Johnson Enters 460th Race in Momentous Career

Las Vegas, N.V. (April 2, 2016) – Allen Johnson and the Marathon Petroleum Co./J&J Racing Dodge Dart GT hit qualifying at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with momentum from their semifinal appearance at the last event in Gainesville, Florida. Using that driving force at the 17th annual DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals, Johnson continued the theme of his 2016 season so far, gaining knowledge and making progress.

Friday’s first session, Johnson clocked in with a 6.801-second pass at 204.05 mph. In Friday’s evening session, Johnson improved his standing when he crossed the finish line with a 6.754, 204.14.

Saturday’s first qualifying also doubled as the first round of the K&N Horsepower Challenge. Johnson faced reigning K&N Horsepower Challenge winner Erica Enders in the first round. Johnson ran a 6.789, 204.73 but wasn’t able to advance past Enders who ran a 6.755, 204.60. Although Johnson did not advance to the second round of the bonus race, his time did go towards his qualifying effort. In the final round of qualifying, Johnson drove right down the boulevard with his fastest pass of the weekend, 6.736, 204.60.

With this race marking his 460th career start, Johnson will have a first round matchup against Alex Laughlin tomorrow morning.

“We tried to set up the car for raceday on that last qualifying session,” said Johnson. “We’re gonna be put in the right lane most likely tomorrow and the right lane bit us in the K&N Horsepower Challenge today and we wanted to have a forgiving setup for a hot and slick racetrack.”

On the eve of his 460th raceday, Johnson is thankful to have shared this prominent career with his family since he made his debut in 1996 at the age of 35.

“That’s pretty crazy,” admitted Johnson. “I used to be considered one of the youngest drivers when I first started and now I’m considered one of the oldest. Just to be able to do it for that period of time with your family is very special. Every race we compete in is just another special race to do as a family.”

April 2, 2016

Martinsville Speedway, the paper-clip-shaped half-mile oval, has confounded many a newcomer over the years, but rookies Ryan Blaney and Jeremy Bullins figured it out fairly well for their first trip there with a Sprint Cup car.

Blaney and his No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion were seventh fastest in Friday’s opening practice session. They backed that up in qualifying, posting the sixth-best speed in the first round and the eighth-best in the second round before locking down the 12th starting spot in the final round. Honda Racing–Andretti Leads the Way for Honda in Phoenix Qualifying

Andretti Leads the Way for Honda in Phoenix Qualifying
• Disappointing day for Honda teams and drivers
• Crashes send Sato, Munoz and Hinchcliffe to the rear of the field
• First night oval race of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series on Saturday

A disappointing day for Honda drivers and teams on Friday at Phoenix International Raceway saw Marco Andretti lead the field for the manufacturer, qualifying 11th for Saturday night’s Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix.

Andretti and his Andretti Autosport teammate, Ryan Hunter-Reay, were the only Honda drivers to break into the top 12 in single-car qualifying on a warm, sunny day at PIR. The Honda effort was further hindered when Takuma Sato and James Hinchcliffe missed qualifying after single-car crashes in practice on Friday morning, while Carlos Munoz crashed during his qualifying run in the afternoon. All three drivers escaped serious injury and are expected to take part in the race.

Saturday night’s 250-lap race, the first oval round of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series, starts at 8:30 p.m. EDT, with live network television coverage on the NBC Sports Network.

Marco Andretti (#27 Andretti Autosport Honda): “That was a good [qualifying] run, and [yet] we’re 11th. Obviously, when we have the car wrung out for qualifying, we want to be running for the pole and not 11th… so I have to say it was disappointing. We have a lot of work to do tonight, but we have a direction that I think we can follow to improve the car. If we get the car good in race trim, the competition will be much closer tomorrow night.”

Team Penske driver leads Chevrolet to top 10 positions in qualifications on oval

PHOENIX (April 1, 2016) – Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves broke the 20-year-old Phoenix International Raceway track record on the way to earning the Verizon P1 Award for the pole position for the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix.

Castroneves’ first lap of 19.0997 seconds (192.631 mph) in single-car qualifications on the 1.022-mile oval eclipsed the record set by two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and Scottsdale, Arizona, resident Arie Luyendyk. Castroneves, driving the No. 3 REV Group Team Penske Chevrolet, earned the pole with a two-lap average speed of 192.324 mph.

Luyendyk, a Verizon IndyCar Series race steward, set the mark with a lap of 19.068 seconds (183.599 mph) in earning the pole on March 23, 1996. Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Phoenix

QUALIFYING QUOTES
FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 2016

POST QUALIFYING DRIVER QUOTES:
HELIO CASTRONEVES, NO. 3 REV GROUP TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, POLE WINNER: ON HIS LAP: “It was a moment. It was interesting. It was in turn four actually which was something we never had. The first lap was really big and I was really happy with the balance of the car. I was very surprised actually that it happened. At the end of the day, the car was strong. The REV Group Chevrolet was really, really strong. Now we have to keep pushing so hopefully we finish at the top.”
ON THE SPEED: “19 second a lap, it is pretty impressive. The fans that are going to be here at Phoenix are going to see the fastest cars in the world going around this place.”

TONY KANAAN, NO. 10 GE LED CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 2ND: It was pretty good, and the conditions changed a lot since this morning, so it was a little tricky to make a decision in what to do with the car. But I think big props to Chevy and Pratt & Miller on their accurate data because we made some changes in the car. It was totally blind, just according to the numbers they gave us, and it was spot on.

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, NO. 2 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 3RD: “I felt we did a good job there with what we had. We had such a bad first practice, it was a bit of a mess. So we recovered pretty well. We have a short practice tonight. So you have to guess. It is hard. It is going to be very hard because conditions are different and the track is going to change between today and tomorrow.”

CHARLIE KIMBALL, NO. 83 NOVO NORDISK CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 4TH: “I think qualifying is really important here at Phoenix. If the race track races like it did during testing last month, passing will be at a premium. Having a solid qualifying effort today was important. We spent a fair amount of time working on everything this morning in practice, but it was broken up due to two big yellows for accidents. We were fortunate enough to get a few qualifying simulations in early and I was pretty happy with the car overall. The 83 car looks good and is quick at the same time.”

ED CARPENTER, NO. 20 FUZZY’S ULTRA PREMIUM VODKA CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 5TH: “We wanted to be 1-2 all weekend! While we weren’t able to accomplish that, our main goal is to win the race. We still have a good opportunity in front of us for that. It’s a good thing when you’re a little frustrated about starting 5th! I know there’s more speed in the car, we just didn’t quite get the right downforce level for qualifying in these conditions. IndyCar is so tough, we’re fighting over hundredths and thousands. It doesn’t take much to get a jump on your competition so we’ll chalk this up and remember it for next time.”

SCOTT DIXON, NO. 9 TARGET CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 6TH: “The car was ok today. It’s always tough when someone puts it in the wall just before you go out and qualify. The Target car was pretty strong and my teammates all did well in practice and we worked together on setup info. We struggled a little bit with overall grip in qualifying. It wasn’t ideal but I think we can be strong in the race.”

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 21 FUZZY’S ULTRA PREMIUM VODKA CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 7TH: “We hung it out there like we needed to and got up relatively high up in the field. Not quite what we wanted, I thought both myself and Ed were going to be pole contenders for sure. We had great cars with the Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolets. We were just battling the conditions there. I don’t think we quite had what we needed, but even though we’re not on the pole we still have fast racecars!”

MAX CHILTON, NO. 8 GALLAGHER CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 8TH: “I had a pretty good run and immediately gave Kanaan some feedback when I got out of the car and he came up. It was amazing how much the track can change in such a short period of time. It’s tough being the first car out there without any feedback but I think the Gallagher team will be ready to go for tomorrow night.”

WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 9TH: “We had a lot of push in the Verizon Chevrolet in our qualifying run and we just didn’t have the right balance. We had to lift going into Turn 1 so we lost some speed there. So we’ll start in the middle of the pack tomorrow. It will be a long race and we’ll see how things go from there. Excited to be back racing here racing in Phoenix and I think it will be an interesting race.”

SIMON PAGENAUD, NO. 22 DEVILBLISS TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 10TH: “I don’t think it was a really good run to be honest. The DeVilbiss Chevy had a lot of movement on the tires on the first lap and it was very tricky into turn one. So, we lost a lot of time in the first lap. It’s going to be a
long race but it just started so, we look forward to tomorrow’s race.”

SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS, NO. 11 TEAM HYDROXYCUT KVSH RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 15TH: “This morning the Hydroxycut machine had a lot of understeer. So for this afternoon we made some changes, but it is always tough when you go into qualifying with a question about what you have. The car was very free going into the turns and started to push mid-corner and out, so I wasn’t sure what to do… I backed out of the tools, but it wasn’t enough to pull a good run. I am not quite sure what happened, but we will take a look at the data, make some changes for tonight’s practice and see what we can do in the race tomorrow.”

KASEY KAHNE PAVES THE WAY IN QUALIFYING FOR CHEVROLET AT MARTINSVILLE
Five Chevy SS Race Cars Qualify in Top Six
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (April 1, 2016) – Kasey Kahne led the way for Team Chevy in knock-out style qualifying for the STP 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway with a lap of 19.515 seconds, 97.033 mph in his No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS. With his solid run, Kahne will start on the outside front row in the 40-car field for Sunday’s 500-lap event at the 0.526-mile paper-clipped shaped venue. This marks his second top-10 start of 2016 and ninth in 25 races at Martinsville Speedway.

“This Great Clips Chevrolet was really fast,” said Kahne. “The guys did a nice job in practice and in qualifying. I just kept getting better with my laps. We didn’t make any adjustments. The car is fine. I feel good about the car and we just need to work through it tomorrow in practice and get it driving the best we can for long runs.”

Brian Vickers qualified third in the No. 14 Janssen Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation Chevrolet SS and posted his fourth top-10 start at Martinsville Speedway. This was also his first top-10 start in four races this season as the interim driver for Tony Stewart and Stewart-Haas Racing.

Richard Childress Racing (RCR) teammates Paul Menard and Ryan Newman qualified 4th and 5th in the No. 27 Libman/Menards Chevy SS and the No. 31 Grainger Chevrolet SS, respectively.

AJ Allmendinger was sixth fastest in his No. 47 Kroger/Butterfinger/Coffee-mate Chevrolet SS, giving Team Chevy five of the top-six starting positions.

Chase Elliott was the top-qualifying Rookie-of-the-Year contender with a strong 10th place run in his No. 24 3M Chevy SS.

Joey Logano (Ford) was the pole winner.

The STP 500 gets underway at 1 pm EST on Sunday April 3. Live coverage will be available on FoxSports1, MRN Radio, Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 and NASCAR.com.

POST QUALIFYING PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT:

KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 GREAT CLIPS CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 2ND

ON STARTING ON THE OUTSIDE POLE:
“That was really good to get quicker each round. Each round we gained speed, I gained speed driving and that was the key. I think coming up here today my main goal was to qualify and to figure out how to get that best pit stall that we can. That means a lot on Sunday. Pit road in and out is a huge part of starting position each run, especially under the cautions. It is a big part of our weekend getting up there and now we just have tomorrow to work on the car some more. They gave me a great Great Clips Chevrolet. I’m glad that we were able to get really close to first. Ended up second, but we were really close.”

WHAT KIND OF MOMENTUM BOOST DOES THIS GIVE YOU GOING INTO THE REST OF THE WEEKEND?
“I think it gives me a lot of momentum. It gives us some confidence that we can go fast running as a single car. Usually it seems like the longer the races go here I have cars to judge off of. I run much better laps and my speed gets better throughout a race rather than practice and qualifying. I feel good about that. I know the team will be ready. My pit crew is as good as anything here. I’m looking forward to giving them a good stall and having great stops on Sunday which is a big part of this race.”

HOW AGONIZING IS IT TO HAVE BEEN SO CLOSE TO THE POLE? DOES THAT MAKE YOU SECOND GUESS SOMETHING YOU DID OUT THERE?
“Not really. I knew my second lap was decent, but not good enough. I got a little more on entry to both corners the third lap and used my exit up. So as soon as I crossed the line I knew that was my best lap and I was coming in regardless. On my dash it said 19.510, so I was like ‘man that might be the pole’, but it really was .515 or whatever so it was a little off Joey (Logano, pole sitter), but it was really close. That was my best lap. I couldn’t run another one.”

DOES THE DOWNFORCE PACKAGE COME INTO PLAY HERE AT ALL? HOW DO YOU LIKE THE PACKAGE?
“I think it will come into play a little. Anytime you push the throttle hard you give up a little bit of that rear spoiler. I think on a long run, it’s not going to be something that we feel a lot of, but if you add the other one on a long run with old tires I think you would definitely get off the corner a little bit better with what we had last year here. Just be able to have more grip from the rear tires, but it’s not going to change a whole lot at this particular track I don’t think. Some of the other race tracks we have raced at to me the first… every track up to California I could get much closer to the back of a car and still run similar lap times to where I was. I didn’t lose near as much. I didn’t have to try to get as far away from that guy as possible to keep my speed up like I felt last year. California was a little different. It seemed to get tighter the closer we got, which was different than the other tracks, but I guess that is probably just the way that track races or how our car was that day. That is how I felt. Luckily that track is so wide you have plenty of space to go looking for room. I think to this part of the season it has definitely been better, easier to get closer to the car in front of you. You don’t slow down near as much when you are right behind them. I think that is a huge gain from where we were. I definitely like it.”

DID YOU PRACTICE IN RACE TRIM AT ALL TODAY? IF SO WERE YOU HAPPY WITH THE CAR? DO YOU FEEL LIKE THE SPRINT CAR WIN LAST WEEKEND GAVE YOU SOME MUCH NEEDED MOMENTUM?
“I think the car was close in race trim, I could run consistent lap times. They weren’t as quick as, I think I saw (Kyle) Larson was faster like consecutive laps and there might have been another car there. I thought I was comparable to (Kevin) Harvick and a few guys. Friday, super clean, grippy race track really means nothing compared to Sunday in race trim. But, I felt comfortable and felt like we had consistent speed. We need to work on that a lot more tomorrow and then the track changes a good bit for Sunday so everything is different then. I thought our car handled nicely. Last weekend’s win was a blast for me. I was glad I went and raced. That is what I wanted to do on Easter weekend was race a sprint car and I did it and we ended up winning a race. It felt really good.”

HOW NICE IS IT TO FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE SOME SPEED IN THE CAR? THE FACT THAT YOU QUALIFY WELL AFTER A SPRINT CAR RACE DOES THAT MEAN YOU CAN CONVINCE RICK (HENDRICK) TO LET YOU DO MORE?
“No, I think the sprint car races are going to be on the off weekends, like what Mr. H said just don’t let it interfere with what we’ve got going on on the Cup side. I don’t want it to interfere with that, but I enjoy doing that stuff once in a while. It was good. I will do a little bit more throughout the season when there is time and that will be it. I felt good about last weekend. I feel good about today. There were times at California Speedway, we had a flat right-rear so we got a lap behind changing that tire under green and it was a super hard fight to get back to where we wanted to be. I felt we were a fifth to 10th place car on lap times throughout the majority of that race. It just wasn’t our day, but I don’t think we are that far off. We just need to keep working together as a team complimenting each other and pushing each other and having each other’s backs. If we do that we are going to get much better.”

YOU WERE ON THE FRONT ROW A FEW TIMES LAST YEAR. IT’S NOT BEEN THAT LONG AGO THAT YOU QUALIFIED WELL. HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IS IT QUALIFYING ON THE FRONT ROW AS OPPOSED TO BEING SAY IN THE TOP 10?
“I think it’s a big difference. I think that one thing is this year I think our speed is a little better than last year in qualifying. I feel like we have been eighth to 12th probably on the majority of the races. I mean some crazy stuff happened at some of them and we didn’t get those results, but I think we have been kind of an eighth to 12th-place car which is better than last year, but when you are in the front two rows that is a big difference from qualifying around 12th in my opinion. A big difference with what you feel about your car, what you think about your car and also what the guys think about it. I think a front row starting spot shows that our car is plenty capable it is just up to what we do tomorrow and our communication and then what we do on Sunday.”

DID YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES?
“My brakes were really good. That is something that changes a lot. There are a lot of little changes that you have with brakes each race. At Martinsville they have to be really solid to work with them here. You have front and rear brake and some adjustments there as a driver, but I was really comfortable with my brakes. I locked my left-front a little bit in practice on my second to last lap and so we adjusted accordingly for that. I was fine in qualifying.”

KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 GREAT CLIPS CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 2ND
THIS IS YOUR BEST START OF THE YEAR. HOW GOOD DOES THAT FEEL?
“It feels good. The car was really fast, this Great Clips Chevrolet. The guys did a nice job in practice and in qualifying. I just kept getting better with my laps. We didn’t make any adjustments. The car is fine. Just let me get my laps a little better. So we did that, and it was close. Joey (Logano, pole winner) just barely got us. But it is definitely a good starting spot. That was one of my goals today was to help out on pit road. Pit road is huge here. We have the best pit crew for stops, than anyone, in my opinion. And if I can help them on pit road, myself, and get a better spot, I think all that will be beneficial on Sunday.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville

YOU HAVE A PROGRAM GOING ON THROUGH THE DALE EARNHARDT, JR. FOUNDATION THAT KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND. CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT?
“We are working with Nationwide Children’s Hospital to raise money for the hospital. Last year we did this gloves program, where we wore a pair of gloves each month and auction them off on eBay. This year we are doing that again and we are going to do it four months this year. This is the first month where we will be wearing blue gloves the whole month for autism awareness. We are really excited to be able to announce that program. We have thought of different ways to get creative each year. We have done it a little bit differently each year to try to raise as much money and awareness as we can. Look forward to releasing more information throughout the season as we go along. This will be the first month. We hope to be able to raise a lot of money. If we can win a few races it definitely makes those gloves a little more valuable. That puts a little pressure on the team and myself, but its good pressure.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville
