DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 2nd
YOU STARTED OUT WITH THE ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT RIGHT OFF THE BAT, BUT YOU CAME BACK WITH A NICE 2ND PLACE FINISH
“We had a lot of luck on those last several restarts. You start on the outside and just gain some spots just being on the right lane. We didn’t have a good enough car to run in the top 5 today, but Greg (Ives, crew chief) and those guys did a great job getting our laps back. We had a dead battery at the start of the race; something bad like that, same thing I think happened to the No. 22 (Joey Logano). That cost us two laps early in the race and we worked real hard. Greg did a great job helping us get our laps back. The car was about a 15th or 10th place car. We were just lucky on those restarts as to where we lined up. And that really helped us.”

KURT BUSCH, NO. 41 HAAS AUTOMATION/MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 3rd
YOU WERE A LOT BETTER THAN A TOP 10 CAR. BEST FINISH OF THE YEAR. WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE FOR YOU TODAY?
“We just battled through it. Junior had trouble at the start and I was 40th when we started the race. One car at a time. One set of tires at a time. And then we were in great position around lap 350. We got the lead from (Carl) Edwards for a little bit. And we just kept working on it. And there’s nothing more that I could have gotten out of the car. I’m really happy with the way that everybody worked together. I shouldn’t be happy about finishing 3rd, but I’ll take it. It’s just a great effort. And the way that this team has come together is perfect. We just need to find that last little bit. Thanks to Haas Automation, Monster Energy, and Chevrolet. It’s just wonderful to have a good group of guys to go out there each week to have a shot at it. And, I still don’t think I’m supposed to be happy about finishing 3rd. But, Edwards ran a great race. Congratulations to him.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Bristol– Post Race

Joey Saldana finishes third with pass on last turn of last lap

PERRIS, Calif. – April 16, 2016 – Daryn Pittman dominated Saturday night’s SoCal Showdown at Perris Auto Speedway to claim his second World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season. The win came one night after a crash ended his night while he led at Bakersfield Speedway.

“Last night was dumb,” Pittman said of his Bakersfield Speedway run. “I ran over Joey [Saldana] and took ourselves out of contention for a win there and tore up a lot of equipment.”

Pittman, who claimed his first ever series win at Perris, said perseverance is the motto of his No. 9 Great Clips team. Continue reading World of Outlaws–Daryn Pittman Perseveres to Score Perris Win

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Ricky and Jordan Taylor IMSA Prototype Quick Winner Quotes

JORDAN TAYLOR, WAYNE TAYLOR RACING NO. 10 KONICA MINOLTA CORVETTE DP – RACE WINNER
FROM THE RESTART, IT LOOKED LIKE A COMPLETE DIFFERENT MACHINE
“Well, it wasn’t much different. I just think the two guys behind us were racing each other a little bit and the No. 5 (Barbosa Fittipaldi) wasn’t as near, so it kind of gave us some freedom to push. But, I think if it wasn’t for Ricky’s (Taylor) start, getting us into the lead, right up to the end, we wouldn’t have had a chance because track position was key. And the guys kept us up front with that pit stop. So, it was a tough day. But I’m glad to have Konica Minolta back in Victory Lane here in Long Beach.”

RICKY TAYLOR, WAYNE TAYLOR RACING NO. 10 KONICA MINOLTA CORVETTE DP
IN THAT DRIVER CHANGE, WHAT COULD YOU TELL YOUR BROTHER TO MAKE THE CAR BETTER? I KNOW YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT A BRAKE BIAS CHANGE
“Yeah, we were actually having some TC issues, so I would give the team suggestions, but I told them not to talk because he (Jordan Taylor) figures it out on his own anyway. But, it’s cool. This race, three years ago, when Konica Minolta started with us and we’ve had three second or first-place finishes. So, it’s just awesome. We couldn’t be happier.”

Austin Dillon Powers Through the Tight Turns to Finish Fourth at Bristol Motor Speedway

“This was definitely a different race today. It was interesting to have the heat races. The No. 2 Rheem Chevrolet was really strong for the second heat race. Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the guys had the handling dialed in for me. After the heat race, a lot of rubber was laid down and the handling for the main changed. I got pretty tight in the center of the corners but with only 200 laps, it’s hard to make adjustments. I’m proud of the No. 2 team. We have some things we’re going to try next week at Richmond (International Raceway) that I’m pretty excited about.”

Racing For The #Dash4Cash, Ty Dillon Finishes Seventh at
Bristol Motor Speedway

“That was definitely a tough finish at the end. I’m disappointed the way it turned out. We had a lot faster car than a seventh-place finish. It was difficult to pass and make a move today, unless you could really race the bottom of the track. I enjoyed the heat racing today, but wish we were there at the end to have a chance to win the Dash4Cash. Thanks to RedKap and Khols.com for the support this weekend, and thanks to Comcast and XFINITY for putting on a great Dash4Cash program.”

– Ty Dillon

Brandon Jones Produces Solid 11th-Place Finish at
Bristol Motor Speedway

“Today was really about track position. The heat races were really fun. We raced in the first one and finished fifth. I really think that element is really cool and I liked that they introduced it to the NASCAR XFINITY Series. We had a lot of fun doing that. Once the race started it was follow the leader out there so again, it was all about track position. It was key. Mike (crew chief, Hillman Jr.) made some good changes on pit road. Unfortunately we didn’t have many times to come down pit road the whole day, so I think that it hurt us without having many chances to adjust on the Check Into Cash Chevrolet. Today it was about being at the right place at the right time.”

– Brandon Jones

Brendan Gaughan Perseveres Through Damage at
Bristol Motor Speedway to Finish 16th

“I’m just bummed. We are usually really good here. We had to start on the bottom all day, and just went back until we could get to the high line. Then we got some damage around lap 35 which complicated an already tight Chevy in the corners. It wasn’t a bad race car, it was just circumstantial. My guys made a great effort on pit road to fix the damage. I’m ready to move on to Richmond.”

HELIO CASTRONEVES, NO. 3 AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, POLE WINNER: “It (qualifying) showed that our team, it’s very consistent. It’s very — we’re always being — all four cars basically, myself, Juan Pablo, Simon and Will, always putting ourselves in a very good condition. We’re working together very hard, and as they say, it’s better to be lucky than good. So I’ll take this one. It was great. We had a fast car. We were consistent, and we just repeated pole position again, so I’m happy that finally our plan paid off, and we’re showing speed and we’re starting in the right position today.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Long Beach–Qualifying Notes

• Sato, Munoz also post top-10 times
• Daly again leads rookie field

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver James Hinchcliffe again led the Honda field in Verizon IndyCar Series action on Saturday on the streets of Long Beach, California, qualifying seventh for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Long Beach. The Canadian Indy car veteran, now fully recovered from serious injuries sustained last May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is seeking his fifth career victory, and first at Long Beach.

Qualifying less than a tenth of a second slower, 2013 Long Beach winner Takuma Sato will start eighth, with 2015 Detroit victor Carlos Munoz leading the Andretti Autosport effort to round out the top-10 qualifiers. Munoz’s teammate, Ryan Hunter-Reay, will start 11th.

Luca Filippi capped a strong effort from Dale Coyne Racing to qualify 12th, while teammate Conor Daly again led the rookie field at Long Beach, and will start 13th. Sunday’s 80-lap race starts at 4 p.m. EDT, with live network television coverage on the NBC Sports Network.

James Hinchcliffe (#5 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda): “Today was a really good day. We rolled off the truck with a good car on Friday and I’m really proud of the Arrow Electronics guys for the prep that they did, because the car was a rocket right from the get-go. We’ve just been making little tweaks to it, trying to get into a position to be fighting for the Firestone Fast Six, and we did. We finished seventh. We kind of [lost out] a little bit with the way that the Timing and Scoring system failed, but it is what it is. We’re starting on the inside, which is great. It’s such a turnaround from the race in Phoenix two weeks ago. There are a lot of reasons to be happy today and I’m proud of the guys.”

Helio Castroneves, No. 3 Auto Club of Southern California Team Penske Chevrolet, won the pole for the Grand Prix of Long Beach for the second consecutive year. It is the three-time Indianapolis 500 winner’s 47th career pole; his third pole at Long Beach and his second of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season. His first of the year came at Phoenix International Raceway on April 1, 2016.
HELIO CASTRONEVES, NO. 3 AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET – Pole Winner:
IT’S SUNNY EVERY DAY IN YOUR WORLD. BUT, TODAY IS ANOTHER REASON TO SMILE
“I’m very happy, first of all, for the AAA car. We’ve been good all weekend long. We’ve been working together all weekend long. I would say Team Penske probably had the upper hand. They say it’s better to be lucky than good and we planned very well. Will (Power) was definitely in a league of his own and he seems to be putting out phenomenal laps, but in the end putting on red tires, you saw (Scott) Dixon up there, you saw (Tony) Kanaan up there and Juan Pablo (Montoya) and Simon (Pagenaud), so it was a mix. But, I’ll take it. Definitely thank AAA and the entire Chevy team. They did a phenomenal job. And hey, it’s the right spot to start, so let’s keep it.”

WHEN WE COME TO A STREET COURSE, YOU KNOW THE CIRCUIT BUT NOBODY IN THIS SERIES OR IN RACING HAS ANY CONTROL OF WHAT MAY OR MAY NOT HAPPEN TO CHANGE THE STREET FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RE-ACCLIMATE?
“That is a great question. It’s so difficult to predict things like that. To be honest, at the end of the day for us, sometimes it hurts us on the race in some stints, it depends on how it happens; but today but it just proves that plan works it out. The track did change this year. Some of the curbs, they took them out. And some of the curbs they added. So, it was a little bit different. But in the end, I don’t care (laughs). We are starting on the front row in the number one spot. Well, we put it on the pole.”

DANICA PATRICK, NO. 10 NATURE’S BAKERY CHEVROLET SS – Involved in an on-track incident with Denny Hamlin and sustained rear damage to the No. 10 Chevrolet

WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN YOU AND THE NO. 11?
“I had just come out on tires. They were cold and I wasn’t very good anyway, I was pretty loose. I came down the front straightaway and I put my finger out the window to point him by, but he hit my on entry. I don’t know if he… it looked like he came pretty close when he went to go to the inside too. Man, I love Denny (Hamlin), but he makes a lot of mistakes behind me. I don’t know if he misjudged it or I was going slower than he thought, but I put my finger out the window and pointed him by. I had no intention to race him. I was not fast enough. I don’t know, but the guys are going to try and fix it.”

• Rahal debuts new colors with third-quickest time
• Hawksworth, Munoz post top-10 times

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver James Hinchcliffe led the Honda field in Verizon IndyCar Series practice Friday for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Long Beach, posting the second-fastest time, only two-tenths of a second behind defending race winner Will Power. Graham Rahal continued his run of impressive street circuit performances, giving Honda two of the top-three positions on the time sheets, finishing the day just six-hundredths of a second off Hinchcliffe.

A.J. Foyt Racing continued to show strong form at Long Beach, with Jack Hawksworth posting the ninth-fastest time, with teammate and 2013 race winner Takuma Sato, 11th. Conor Daly led the three rookie drivers in the field with the 15th fastest time, still less than a second behind Power.

Activities on the Southern California temporary street circuit continue tomorrow, with final practice and qualifying. Sunday’s 80-lap race starts at 4 p.m. EDT, with live network television coverage on the NBC Sports Network.

James Hinchcliffe (#5 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda): “We’ve had a difficult start to the season, but not quite as difficult as the end to my last one [when a mechanical failure at Indianapolis resulting in serious leg injuries that ended his season]. So, it’s easy to sleep at night knowing that things could be worse. The car was quick off the truck [this morning], and we made very few changes over lunch, so it’s an encouraging start to our weekend. Long Beach has been nice to me in the past, so hopefully, we can have a solid weekend here and really kick off the season.”

THROUGH YOUR DRIVEN TO GIVE PROGRAM AND PARTNERSHIP WITH NATIONWIDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL YOU HAVE A SPECIAL PROGRAM GOING ON THIS WEEKEND TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT:
“We have eight-year-old Aiden on the passenger side of the car. He is going to be our champion child this race weekend that we are celebrating. Obviously, we are trying to raise money to fight autism this month with the Driven to Give gloves. We did the glove auctions throughout the season last year with a lot of success. We wanted to tweak that program a little bit this year to try to raise even more funds. We’ve been wearing these blue gloves all month. At the end of the month we are going to auction them off and raise money for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. I’ve had a chance to go up there and take a tour. We will be going again this year. It’s an amazing place doing a lot of great things. They have improved and learned so much over the last couple of decades to be able to make such a huge difference in the lives of these children they are treating. It’s awesome to be a part of that and be able to help. That is how we are doing it this year. I think we are going to have four months that we focus on this year where we will wear different colored gloves and have a champion child that we will have on the car at some of those events throughout the year raising money for different causes, different illnesses. We are excited. We have been wearing these blue gloves for a few races now. I’m looking forward to auctioning them things off and trying to raise some good money.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Bristol–Dale Earnhardt Jr
