HOW DO YOU FEEL AFTER QUALIFYING? “I feel I’m going into the race with the best shot I’ve got. I feel really good about things and it would be great to bring another Indy 500 title to Nazareth. It hasn’t been done since ’69. It would be a pretty big deal for that little town. Everybody has been messaging me on Facebook and Twitter, pulling for me.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Sage Karam

SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS, NO. 11 TEAM HYDROXYCUT CHEVROLET, KVSH RACING (qualified 19th):

IT’S BEEN SAID THAT CARS WITH DOME SKIDS ARE A LITTLE HARDER TO HANDLE, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT AND HAVE YOU HAD THOSE ISSUES? “It’s not designed to make the cars easier or worse to drive. They are there to keep the cars from flying so I am not sure why we are talking about it. But to be quite honest it pisses me off because that has been the lead-up to the event and the greatest race that we have had in 100 years. It’s a shame. It’s sad. To me it’s who gives a damn about the dome skids. They don’t even need to know about it. The car is the way it is, we are going to put on a great show, and that is all people need to know about it. Honestly I am pissed at the media in general for making a mess of it and for some drivers to make such a big deal about it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Sebastien Bourdais

BUDDY LAZIER, NO. 4 LAZIER/BURNS RACING CHEVROLET, LAZIER/BURNS RACING (qualified 32nd; 1996 Indy 500 winner):

TALK ABOUT YOUR HISTORY HERE. “Two times we’ve had the race won and we had a little issue. In 2000 with Juan (Montoya) we were fast and we were quicker than he was. We had our car a little better on raceday, and we were getting killed every time we went in for fuel. We took fuel twice as many times as he did. We just missed that year – strategy and otherwise. We very easily could have won it. A couple of years later, we had the race won and our last set of tires we had no stagger. So these second-place finishes haunt you. When you win a race, you put it on a shelf. And this is such a special race to win. There have been probably four or five other times where we were a hair away from winning.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Media Day

Giovanni Scelzi Sweeps Plaza Park Raceway Event and Makes Midget Debut

Giovanni Scelzi Sweeps Plaza Park Raceway Event and Makes Midget Debut

Inside Line Promotions – VENTURA, Calif. (May 23, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi enjoyed a dominating performance on Friday at Plaza Park Raceway, where he swept the night to score his second straight micro sprint victory.

“I feel like we’ve been good the last year and haven’t had the good finishes,” he said. “Now we haven’t lost a race with this new motor yet so that’s pretty cool.”

Scelzi kicked off the night at the bullring in Visalia, Calif., by setting quick time during qualifying. He then charged from fourth to win a heat race. A six-car feature inversion lined Scelzi up on the outside of the third row for the 30-lap main event.

“On the first start I was in second and then they called the start back,” he said. “Once we got going I got into third by the third lap. Me and Jake Hagopian both passed Jake Andreotti halfway through. There was a yellow with about nine laps to go. The track was slick to the wall so it was really wide. I passed for the lead, but another yellow came out with about five or six laps to go so that sent me back to second.”

Scelzi slid Hagopian for the top spot in turns three and four on the restart and took the lead for good entering turn one. He led the closing laps for his second triumph of the season and first at Plaza Park Raceway.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Ventura Raceway, where Scelzi made his midget debut driving for Cory Kruseman.

“In hot laps we had some motor trouble so we didn’t get any laps,” he said. “It was sputtering real bad. I didn’t make very good laps in qualifying and we still had some motor problems so we didn’t qualify well.”

Scelzi qualified 27th quickest. However, he made up for it during the heat race when he powered from seventh to second place. That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We got to fifth and then we got spun out,” he said. “There was a restart with about 10 laps to go and going into turn one with a few laps to go we got spun out. I went to the back and wasn’t able to go anywhere after that.”

He was credited with a 17th-place result.
