Austin Dillon’s Strong Weekend Capped Off with Top-10 Finish for the No. 3 Dow Veterans Salutes Team at Michigan International Speedway

“We thought we had enough speed to have a shot to win today in the Dow Veterans Salutes Chevrolet so we are a little disappointed even though a top-10 is a great day. Obviously, we didn’t have everything we needed today, but our main issue is that we never really got the track position we needed. I thought our first restart was good and we were running solidly in the top five, but the caution came out after we pitted and we did not get in front of race leader Jimmie Johnson before the caution came out, so that hurt us. But, I’m proud of my guys. They made some good adjustments on pit road to get us back in the game. We had a good last restart and a key factor in that was restarting on top. That top line really moved today. I don’t know what people thought of the new lower downforce package that we debuted today, but in my opinion it was pretty hard to pass because it made our cars really free. Everybody has wanted to go in that direction, but there is only so far that we can go. We are not all Superman out there, so downforce is king.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Michigan

Early Exit at NHRA Summernationals Leaves Allen Johnson with Lessons Learned

Englishtown, N.J. (June 12, 2016) – Allen Johnson drove his Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Dodge Dart to the second round of competition today at the 47th annual NHRA Summernationals by defeated Alex Laughlin in the first round.

Johnson qualified No. 5 after four rounds of qualifying at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Being on the top half of the ladder gave Johnson lane choice over Alex Laughlin. In the first round of eliminations, Johnson pulled the chutes at the finish line with a 6.688-second pass at 208.88 mph over Laughlin’s close 6.698, 209.33.

In the second round, Johnson left the starting line and went into quick tire shake. Trying to recover, Johnson shifted into the next gear and crossed the finish line with a 7.003, 161.00. Although his efforts were valiant, his elapsed time was not enough to turn on the win light against Nobile’s 6.639, 210.37.

“We tried a lot of new parts on the car this weekend to free it up and it seemed to like it during qualifying but the car just couldn’t get any grip today whatsoever,” Johnson admitted. “We definitely shot ourselves in the foot today but we can always take a positive out of a negative and learn from it.”

“We usually run well in the hot track conditions and we just didn’t do the right thing in those conditions otherwise we would’ve been okay today,” he added.

The next event will be the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals on June 17-19, 2016. Qualifying will begin on Friday June 17th at 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. (ET).

Ty Dillon avoids trouble, finishes 24th at Michigan International Speedway in No. 95 Red Kap/Nexteer Chevrolet
“Today was an OK day for our No. 95 Red Kap/Nexteer Chevy. The car had speed throughout most of the race and I was able to race inside the top 20. We gained a lot of positions on the restarts, which are important to capitalize on at tracks like Michigan. We probably could have been a little better on pit road with a few stops in the middle of the race and in the end, it probably would have helped to take fresh tires during the last caution, but hindsight is always twenty-twenty. This biggest plus from today was we stayed out of trouble, kept the car clean and finished on the lead lap. I’m grateful for the opportunity to race today and log some more laps; all a part of the learning process. It was great to have friends from Nexteer Automotive and VF Imagewear here today supporting our team.”

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 12) — Two-time and reigning Pro Stock champion Erica Enders did something very few drivers have managed to do over the years: leave the starting line ahead of five-time series champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. But despite her quick start — an .038 reaction time to Coughlin’s .046 start — her Elite Motorsports/Mopar Dodge Dart began to rattle its giant rear slicks right away, allowing teammate Coughlin to pass her in the first few feet of the race and streak away fro the victory.
