• Dumas and Honda power back up 2014 victory with 2016 crown
• Team is second-ever to break the nine-minute barrier in event
• Honda/Acura score class victory for 15th consecutive year

PIKES PEAK, Colo. (June 26, 2016) – Started as an after-hours project by a small team of Honda Performance Development engineers, an HPD-built Honda engine today propelled Romain Dumas to the summit of Pikes Peak ahead of a talented field to win the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for the second time in the last three years.

The Honda powerplant propelled Dumas to the top of the 14,115-foot mountain in a time of 8:51.445 (81.288 mph), marking just the second car ever to cover the 12.42-mile road course in less than nine minutes. Rhys Millen would later join Dumas in getting under nine minutes, but his time of 8:57.118 left him more than five seconds behind the leader. Rookie Ryan Blaney, his rookie crew chief Jeremy Bullins and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team turned in a commendable performance in Blaney’s first Sprint Cup race on a road course.

Blaney started 26th in Sunday’s 110-lap race at Sonoma Raceway, stayed on the course all afternoon and came home with a 23rd-place finish.

Bullins made the right strategy calls, making his first stops on Laps 18 and 42 and picking up track position in the process both times. That allowed Blaney to race among the top 10 and top 15 for most of the ensuing runs. Continue reading Blaney Stays On Course, Finishes 23rd At Sonoma

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Dow Racing Team Earn 22nd-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

“It’s not the finish we wanted, but I’m proud of my Dow Polyurethane and Utility Trailer guys. They never gave up. Passing was pretty difficult today so restarts were important. On the second to last restart, I went off course a little and lost quite a few positions. The guys said to go for it, so that’s what I was trying to do. I hate that I lost a few positions on that restart because we were never able to make up the positions before the end of the race. It’s ok because we’re in this together and we’ll be back stronger for the next road course race at Watkins Glen International in a few weeks.”

– Austin Dillon

First road course race of 2015 ends with the No. 27 Richmond/Menards Chevrolet Team in 16th place

“We were optimistic heading into today’s race in Sonoma. The guys worked hard all weekend and we made some gains on this Richmond/Menards Chevy. It really showed on Saturday when we went out and qualified ninth. Today’s race didn’t go quite as planned. We had a strategy in place, but that second caution came out and threw us off. The car was handling well, but could’ve handled better in Turn 10 and the low-speed corners. We fought that all day. Overall it’s been a good weekend. I have to thank my guys for all their work.”

– Paul Menard

Ryan Newman Cruises to Eighth-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway in the WIX Filters Chevrolet

“We started the race off a little loose in the left-hand turns and a little tight in the right-hand turns but my crew chief Luke Lambert and the WIX Filters team fixed me up during the first and second pit stops of the day. We made contact with the soft wall outside Turn 4 towards the end of the race but didn’t really sustain any damage. I think those last couple of caution flags helped cool our tires down and we were able to pick up an extra few spots before the end of the race. Overall it was a good day for the WIX Filters Chevrolet team.”

COURTNEY FORCE RUNNER-UP AGAIN IN NORWALK

NORWALK, OH — For the second year in a row, Courtney Force and the Traxxas team are leaving the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals with a runner-up finish. Force dismissed John Hale, Alexis DeJoria and Tommy Johnson Jr. and advanced to the final round, ultimately moving her from third to second in the NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car point standings, before falling to Ron Capps in the final round.

“It was an awesome weekend for our Traxxas team, The Fastest Name in Radio Control. I’m really excited. We went all the way to the final round today. This is the second year in a row we have gone to the final here. I was really hoping we could get it done this weekend, but I know we have a really good race car and we even gathered enough points this weekend to move our Traxxas team up to the No. 2 position in the points,” said Force. TONY STEWART TAKES THRILLING WIN AT SONOMA
Five Chevy SS Drivers Earn Top 10 Finishes at California Road Course

SONOMA, Calif. (June 26, 2016) – Tony Stewart made an epic last-lap pass in his No. 14 Code 3 Associates/Mobil 1 Chevrolet SS to claim his 49th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory and third triumph at Sonoma Raceway in today’s Toyota Save Mart 350. It has been 110 races, 84 in which Stewart has competed, since the Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) co-owner last visited Victory Lane at Dover in October 2013.

At his admitted favorite track on the circuit, the 45-year-old Cup Series veteran and three-time champion played the pit strategy game and held off two hard charging competitors to claim a win in his final season as a full-time Sprint Cup Series driver. Although the win does not officially punch Stewart’s ticket into the Chase, he now sits only nine points out of the pinnacle 30th position in the point standings, with 10 races remaining before the Chase grid is decided. Starting sixth, Rahal ran in the lead pack throughout the 50-lap contest, battling for a podium position with a half-dozen fellow competitors as the race ran caution-free for the first 39 laps. At that point, Conor Daly spun off track and into the Turn One safety barriers, following an apparent suspension failure, bringing out the sole full-course caution of the race. Allen Johnson’s Saturday Night Teardown Leads to Sunday Round Win

Allen Johnson’s Saturday Night Teardown Leads to Sunday Round Win

NORWALK, Ohio (June 26, 2016) – Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson took his Dodge Dart to the second round of eliminations after qualifying in the bottom half of the field in the No. 13 spot.

Coming into raceday in the bottom half of the field was unfamiliar territory for the Greeneville, Tenn.-based driver. With a first round matchup against Bo Butner, Johnson knew a good reaction time would be a big part of guaranteeing him a win into later rounds. At the launch, Johnson had .031-seconds advantage over Butner and when Butner stumbled half track, Johnson was able to charge right through for the win with a 6.670-second pass at 208.39; that stellar 6.670 pass was quicker than his qualifying efforts all weekend by .073-seconds.

Second round, Johnson found himself with lane choice over Shane Gray. Johnson ran a 6.694, 205.10 but was unable to outrun Gray’s close 6.681, 207.37.

“We had a really trying weekend but as this Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing team always does, they kept digging and we were able to find the problem last night. We went out first round and made a very good, decent run but we were pretty conservative. We didn’t know what setup would work in the first round but I think we had two hundredths left in it. I believe we could’ve run a 65 if we weren’t so conservative; we’re closing the gap on those KB boys and I think it’ll pay dividends in Chicago in a few weeks.”

NORWALK, Ohio (June 26) — Reigning back-to-back Pro Stock world champion Erica Enders completed the 2016 schedule’s only stretch of four consecutive races with a positive outing in her Elite Motorsports/Mopar Dodge Dart.

The stretch of races wasn’t kind to the most prolific female racer in class history as she bowed out in the opening round in the first three of the four events. But that turned a bit Sunday when she dismissed bitter rival Chris McGaha with an end-to-end job in Round 1 and gave current points leader Jason Line a huge scare in Round 2.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series visited the “Gateway to the West” with a trip to Gateway Motorsports Park just outside St. Louis, Missouri, on Saturday for the Drivin’ for Linemen 200. In two practice sessions on Saturday morning, Germán Quiroga was 15th and fourth fastest, while Timothy Peters posted the 19th and 20th fastest times. On Saturday afternoon, group qualifying was rained out, so the field was set per the NASCAR Rule Book based on practice speeds. Quiroga secured the fifth starting position while Peters would take the green flag in 21st. After a short rain delay in the 160-lap event at the facility, Quiroga finished seventh while Peters finished tenth.

Germán Quiroga Earns Top-10 Finish at Gateway Motorsports Park

On Saturday, Germán Quiroga earned a seventh-place finish in the Drivin’ For Linemen 200 at Gateway Motorsports Park. During two practice sessions on Saturday morning, Quiroga posted the 15th and fourth fastest times. A rain shower moved through just before qualifying was scheduled to begin, and the field was set per the NASCAR Rule Book based on practice times. Quiroga took the green flag in fifth position, but soon reported that he was too free in turns 3 and 4, falling back out of the top 10. During the second caution on lap 28, crew chief Scott Zipadelli called Quiroga to pit road for two tires, fuel and adjustments. After restarting in the 12th position, Quiroga reported that his No. 11 Toyota Tundra was very loose and on the following caution period on lap 69, he again visited pit road, this time for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment. He continued to battle a loose condition and would visit pit road again one more time for another four-tire stop. Quiroga was able to avoid several late-race wrecks to drive into the top 10 and secure a seventh-place finishing position.

Germán Quiroga Quote:
“First of all, I have to thank everyone at Red Horse Racing for the opportunity and everyone at Toyota Racing Development. We had a fast Toyota Tundra, but we started a little bit free. We got it a little bit better but we fought that all night. You have to be aggressive, but they were hitting us, and every time they hit us we were losing positions because we were so free. I’m happy overall, we finished with the truck in one piece in the top-10. All I can say is thanks to everyone, all the pit crew guys, (crew chief) Scott Zipadelli and all the guys back at the shop.”

Timothy Peters Perseveres for Top-10 Finish at Gateway Motorsports Park

Timothy Peters fought his way to a 10th-place finish in a wild race at Gateway Motorsports Park. The No. 17 team unloaded the red and white Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra for two practices on Saturday morning and recorded the 19th fastest speed in the first and the 20th fastest speed in the second practice. On Saturday afternoon, group qualifying was rained out, and the field set by the NASCAR Rule Book. Peters lined up for the green flag in the 21st position. Under the first yellow flag on lap 16, crew chief Shane Huffman called Peters to pit road for Sunoco fuel and adjustments, while most of the field stayed out. On a following caution flag, Peters was able to stay out, while the rest of the field went to pit road, gaining valuable track position and restarting in third position. The Danville, Va. native continued to battle the balance of the No. 17 Toyota Tundra, fighting a loose entry to the corner and a tight center and exit. Hitting pit road for four Goodyear tires and fuel three times during caution periods, Peters fell back. He fought to remain in the top-10, and after several cautions and red flags at the end of the race, was able to bring home a solid 10th-place finish.

Start – 21
Finish – 10
Driver Points Position – 3
Owner Points Position -3

Timothy Peters Quote:
“We struggled a little with the balance but all the guys and Shane (Huffman, crew chief) persevered through a really long, hot day. They worked on our Toyota Tundra all day long and we were able to bring home a top-ten result. We’ll head on to Kentucky (Speedway) in a few weeks and hopefully get back on a roll and build up our momentum again.”
