GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (July 5, 2016) – Marathon Petroleum Corporation/J&J Racing Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson rocketed his Dodge Dart to the final round at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals just one year ago. “We had a good weekend up there last year,” the Greeneville-based driver laughed as reminiscing about his win in 2015. “I beat Larry Morgan and then he came back and beat me the next race in Denver after that staging duel.”

“The boys have been hard on the dyno since we got home,” Johnson said. “Doing well in Chicago is what we’re concentrating on because we need to get our momentum back as we head into the Western Swing.”

Qualifying at the 19th annual K&N Filters Route 66 NHRA Nationals will begin on Friday July 8 with two qualifying runs at 5:15 and 7:45 p.m. Two more qualifying sessions will be on Saturday July 9th at 3:15 and 6:00 p.m. Eliminations will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday July 10th.

Scelzi Grateful for Strong Safety Products following Wild Crash at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 4, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi endured one of the wildest rides of his career last Friday at Knoxville Raceway.

Scelzi was competing just outside the top 10 when he and another driver made contact in turns one and two at the half-mile oval. The collision resulted in both cars flipping and Scelzi’s car being destroyed during the crash.

“It was the second most painful one I’ve been in,” he said. “It was probably the biggest flip I’ve taken. It was a wild one. To kill a car at Knoxville, it was pretty stylish. I really want to thank all of our partners for the safety products. They all did the job perfectly and I feel fine. A big thanks also to ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, which we believe are the safest made, and to DJS Safe Seat.” Continue reading Scelzi Grateful for Strong Safety Products following Wild Crash at Knoxville

Eriksson Pilots Honda to First Heat Victory in Red Bull Global Rallycross

• Honda Finishes 1-2 in Round Seven Semifinal
• Severe Weather Forces Postponement of Round Seven Final

JACKSONVILLE, N. C. (July 3, 2016) – Olsbergs MSE, with driver Sebastian Eriksson, scored its first heat victories in the all-new turbocharged Honda Civic Coupe in Rounds Six and Seven of the Red Bull Global Rallycross Supercar championship.

Eriksson led his teammate, Joni Wiman, in the Heat 2A victory from start to finish, with Wiman completing the six-lap race in second place. Eriksson and Wiman’s smooth and consistent skill behind the wheel of the Civic, powered by an 8,500 rpm Honda Performance Development engine, proved to be too much for the field, gapping the competition by over six seconds.

The weekend’s action unfolded on the runways of Marine Air Corps Station New River with a .713-mile, 58 percent pavement/41 percent dirt circuit that tested the Civic Coupe’s durability and agility throughout the doubleheader weekend. Saturday’s Round Six final took place after a 45-minute delay for severe weather and lightning. The track conditions were sloppy, featuring deep puddles and mud across the entire second half of the course. By the end of the chaotic final, Eriksson finished in sixth place and Wiman, seventh.

On Sunday, the track dried up, thanks to 95 degree heat and 65 percent humidity. The Olsbergs MSE duo was able to claim Honda’s second heat victory of the weekend in Semifinal A, with Eriksson finishing on top and Wiman, second.

Unfortunately, the persistent severe weather, including lightning, forced Red Bull GRC officials to postpone Sunday’s scheduled seventh round at the Marine Air Corps Station. Red Bull GRC officials announced that all points and results from Round Seven are currently suspended. The situation continues to be evaluated, however, there are no plans for making up the race at this time.

Honda remains third in the Red Bull GRC manufacturers’ championship heading into Round Eight, July 30 in Washington, D.C. The event takes place at RFK Stadium and can be seen live on NBC at 2 p.m. ET, with online coverage by Red Bull TV beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Blaney Dodges Disaster At Daytona To Remain In Contention For A Chase Berth

July 3, 2016

On a night at Daytona International Speedway in which Ford Fusions were the dominant cars, Ryan Blaney and his No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Fusion showed speed and skill en route to a 14th-place finish in the Coke Zero 400.

The rookie Blaney started 12th and ran as high as third in the early going, and in the top 10 for most of the race. He dodged two major crashes and a couple of minor ones, and his finish allowed him to move up two spots in the driver points standings to 15th place. Austin Dillon Avoids Melee at Daytona International Speedway to Finish Seventh

“Andy (Houston, spotter) worked really hard there at the end of the race to gain us track position. We made up four or five spots in a lap and put ourselves in the top 10 for the final restart of the night. We got to the outside lane and had a heck of a run coming to the white flag. I just couldn’t get back to the bumper of our drafting partner before the checkered flag came out. All-in-all it was a good night for the Bass Pro Shops/NRA Museum team. It was a good night for us in the standings, too. Man, it feels much better to finish seventh on all four tires. I’m proud of this Richard Childress Racing team. I wanted to win tonight, but I know we have one coming.”

Promising Night Ends Early for the No. 27 Duracell/Menards Chevrolet Team at Daytona International Speedway

“It was hard to see. I saw the No. 1 car get squirrelly a couple hundred yards down the tri-oval. I’m not sure if Jamie (McMurray) had a problem, he said there may have been a tire issue but wasn’t really sure. Typical plate racing. We had a fast Duracell/Menards Chevy tonight and could’ve contended for the win. We got up to second and took a stab at the lead. We were just waiting for that next pit stop to work on the car a little after that last run. These guys built a great Chevy SS for the weekend. It’s just unfortunate that our night ended the way it did.”
– Paul Menard

Ryan Newman Rebounds From The “Big One” to Finish 18th at Daytona International Speedway

“We chose the wrong line there after the final restart. For as banged up as our Florida Lottery Chevrolet was, it was still fast. I want to commend my team for working their tails off when we got caught up in the “Big One”. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) had a good plan in place to make the necessary repairs. It cost us a lap but fortunately we were able to benefit from the lucky dog and got back on the lead lap. On that final restart in overtime, we just raced in the line that wouldn’t go when we needed it to.”

Chips away at Donny Schatz’s points lead

BRANDON, S.D. – July 2, 2016 – Brad Sweet led early and led often at Badlands Motor Speedway on Saturday night as he found luck and persevered to score his seventh World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

Sweet, who took the checkered flag at the track for the first time in his career, lost the lead to Rico Abreu on lap 10. When Abreu got too low on the track and caught a tire barrier sending him flipping on to the front straight, Sweet regained the lead. Through a couple of close calls, it was smooth sailing to the end.

Sweet’s win is his first since May 13 at Plymouth Speedway. Continue reading Brad Sweet Has a Good Night at Badlands Motor Speedway

“This Rheem Camaro team never gives up. We got caught up in the incident in the beginning of the race. I told myself on the restart I needed to get down to the bottom lane. I guess I just didn’t get there fast enough. It’s a product of guys racing too hard too early. We only had six or seven laps until the competition caution. We got back to the garage and every Rheem crew member had a hand in getting this car back on track. We weren’t going to get a DNF. You’ll have these nights. It’s racing.
