Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Iowa Speedway Post Race

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 21 FUZZY’S ULTRA PREMIUM VODKA ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET, won today’s Iowa Corn 300 for the Verizon IndyCar Series at Iowa Speedway. Newgarden led 282 of the 300 laps on his way to his 3rd career victory, first on an oval. The 282 laps is the most laps led in an IndyCar race.

JOSEF – HAVE YOU EVER HAD A CAR THAT GOOD? “I think we had a car like that last year. Man, it’s hard to not get emotional after these things! What a great car! Fuzzy’s Vodka…they enable us to do what we are doing here. Have a great team with Ed Carpenter Racing. Great team owner in Ed Carpenter. It is great, man. Best car I’ve ever had. Happy for my team. For my owner – he is a good dude. He takes good care of me. Just happy. This is so cool. Thanks to everyone in Iowa. I love this place. Love coming to Iowa. Love the fans here. Love running Indy cars around this place. I hope we come back here for many, many years.”

DID YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS WHEN YOU PITTED FOR THE LAST TIME? “No. These guys are the best. I have the best crew out there. We learn from past deals. We watch the tapes and everyone learns what we need to do for this year. I had total confidence that we were going to have a good stop. We had a little bit of a buffer, that we were going to get back out there on that last stint and just run away with it. The car was just incredible. I could put it anywhere. It really helped. My right hand was killing me, but having an amazing car helps a lot. It is all credit to this team, Ed Carpenter Racing, they did an amazing job today.”

YOU JUST DID TWO RACES, ONE ON A ROAD COURSE, AND WON ON AN OVAL, HOW EMOTIONAL WAS IT FOR YOU AS YOU RECOVER FROM YOUR INJURIES? “I forgot about that. We’ve been so close to winning on an oval with this team. We’ve had seconds and…I hate having a cop-out. I don’t want people to think that I’m having a harder time because of the injuries. It was tough. This place is already difficult, it is one of the most difficult places we go to. But I wasn’t going to lose control of this thing. When you are leading the race and you have your team watching your back, man, you have to bring it home. I wanted to do it for all of these guys and girls. Just so happy for my group. The injuries – it doesn’t mean anything. It is all about the car and how good of a team we are. I think that is what got it done for us today.”

Despite stellar driving effort, Erica Enders falls in Chicago first round
CHICAGO (July 10) — Route 66 Raceway will always hold special memories for Elite Motorsports/Mopar Dodge driver Erica Enders.

The track is where Enders scored her first Pro Stock victory in 2012, helping elevate her to superstar status in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

The 2016 race, the K&N Filters Route 66 NHRA Nationals on Sunday, won’t carry the same memories, but it could become a memorable event. Enders, the 2014-15 Pro Stock champion, has struggled this season as her team continues to develop their new Dodge Dart with fuel-injected engines.

Mid-race wreck Drops Blaney To 35th At Kentucky
July 10, 2016

For the first 87 laps of Saturday night’s 400-mile Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway – and for the last 60 circuits – Ryan Blaney’s No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion was one of the fastest cars on the track.

In between there was a crash, and a Herculean effort by the Motorcraft/Quick Lane crew to get Blaney back on the track, where he finished 35th, picking up two valuable points awarded for the two positions he gained after the wreck. Continue reading Mid-race wreck Drops Blaney To 35th At Kentucky

Ty Dillon battles to finish 25th at Kentucky Speedway despite heavy damage to No. 95 Chevrolet
“Tonight really wasn’t our night, but we stayed with it and battled to the end. We got into a wreck pretty early on and had to make several pit stops to repair the right-front and nose of our No. 95 Chevy Summer Sell Down Chevrolet. I’m proud of the effort of our team and its never-give-up attitude. Overall, I learned a lot and gained some experience on this new racing surface; it was tough to maneuver and pass and had a lot of speed. This is not how I envisioned the night going, but being able to race here in the Sprint Cup Series is always fun.”

Scores his fifth career Outlaws win at Cedar Lake

NEW RICHMOND, Wisc. – July 9, 2016 – Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet battled throughout much of Saturday night’s FVP Outlaws at Cedar Lake feature at Cedar Lake Speedway, as they traded the lead back and forth through lapped traffic and cautions, but it was Schatz who held tough to score his 13th World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

“I’ve got to thank these guys,” Schatz said. “They’re incredible in what they do.” Continue reading Donny Schatz Scores Lucky No. 13 at FVP Outlaws at Cedar Lake Scores his fifth career Outlaws win at Cedar Lake

Austin Dillon and the Dow Chevrolet Team Show Speed at Kentucky Speedway before Finishing 16th

“What a race. We had a really fast Dow Chevrolet tonight but we didn’t execute the way we needed to in order to get to Victory Lane. It turned into a fuel conservation race and we didn’t play that game as well as we could have. The down force package we ran tonight lacked takeoff speed but once the run progressed we were very good. We have some work to do on restarts. I think we can build on tonight and come back stronger next week at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.”

– Austin Dillon

Paul Menard Finishes 18th in Fuel Mileage Event at Kentucky Speedway

“We had a top-10 Sylvania/Menards Chevrolet tonight. My guys worked really hard on pit road to make changes to keep us moving forward. The balance went to the tight side halfway through the race, but we were fast in Turns 3 and 4 where most teams struggled. Late in the event we pitted just prior to the caution and that left us 10 laps short on fuel. I tried to save as much as I could but the math just didn’t work out. We will take this momentum and move on to New Hampshire Motor Speedway next weekend.”

Ryan Newman Earns First Top-Five Finish of the Season with Third-Place Finish at Kentucky Speedway

“We had a good Caterpillar Chevrolet. We really struggled, like most people did, in dirty air. Track position was definitely key, but I’m proud of these guys on the Caterpillar Chevrolet and all the ECR Engines guys. They obviously did a good job on the fuel mileage to make that happen. We started saving fuel as soon as the final green-flag run started and we saved exactly the right amount. We were out at the end. I think all of us drivers that made it knew what we were doing. It’s just a matter of if we thought we were as good as we were. I’m just proud of the guys. It’s our first top-five finish of the year, but we’ll keep digging.”
