PROCK AIMS TO IMPROVE ON PERFECTION AT SONOMA

On a Roll, Cornwell Camaro Driver Eyes Countdown to the Championship
SONOMA, Calif. (July 24, 2024) – One might think that after winning the pre-season PRO Superstar Shootout in his Funny Car debut, after hoisting the trophy in four of the season’s first 11 NHRA tour events, after qualifying No. 1 in all but three starts, and after earning five outright wins in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge, Austin Prock might be less than laser-focused entering this week’s 36th Sonoma Nationals.
One would be wrong.
Despite those remarkable numbers and a point lead so massive that he could miss the next two events and still top the driver standings entering the Labor Day U.S. Nationals, Prock will roll the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS onto the track at Sonoma Raceway determined to improve upon a performance in last week’s NHRA Northwest Nationals that most considered flawless.
To recap, the 28-year-old Funny Car rookie was quickest in every qualifying session a week ago, posted quick time of eliminations and won the race. His goal this week? To improve on starting line reaction times which were “only” .067, .067, .069 and .069. against a field average of .087.
“I wasn’t very impressed with my driving performance last weekend,” said the man whose Camaro bears the same number (#374) as the Funny Cars driven by grandfather Tom Prock, a contemporary of both Don Prudhomme and the late “Jungle Jim” Liberman and runner-up to both on the NHRA tour in 1975.
“Going back-to-back like this, I’m going to hopefully get back in a rhythm and hopefully be better,” said the man who, before taking over the controls of the Cornwell Chevy for a medically sidelined Robert Hight, was the No. 1 qualifier at last year’s Sonoma Nationals in a Top Fuel dragster.
Prock’s obsession with improvement, of course, is all about the upcoming Countdown to the Championship which begins Sept. 15 in Reading, Pa.
“We have the Countdown coming up in just three more races,” he said, “(so) I’d like to race this thing every day, if I could.”

Josh Hart Looks to Sonoma for Second Half Success

Ocala, FL (July 24, 2024) — The past two years Sonoma Raceway has been a welcome stop on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series for Josh Hart and the R+L Carriers Top Fuel team. This weekend the two-time Top Fuel national event winner will be looking to the Denso Sonoma Nationals as another opportunity to build momentum heading into the second half of the 2024 NHRA season. Last weekend as the No. 8 qualifier in Seattle Hart raced to the quarterfinals on the heels of two strong days of qualifying. This weekend he will be looking to continue the positive moves in the California wine country.

“Sonoma is a beautiful part of the country, and they really love drag racing,” said Hart. “This will be our third race at Sonoma Raceway and every year we have won more rounds on Sunday, so we are looking for big things this weekend. I was pleased with our effort last weekend in Seattle and I think we are moving in the right direction.”

Prior to Seattle Hart’s team added veteran crew chief John Stewart to work with R+L Carriers Top Fuel team primary crew chief Ron Douglas. During an intense testing session prior to the Northwest Nationals the team saw positive performance improvements that they built on over three days on the track at Pacific Raceways. Racing to the quarterfinals allowed Hart to close the gap on drivers in front of him with three races before the Countdown to the Championship begins following the historic U.S. Nationals.

“We are chasing some drivers in front of us to improve our position going into the Countdown,” said Hart. “When the points reset, I want to be in the middle of the pack and that is a big goal for this team. It is attainable but we will need to keep working hard and make our own luck. The best thing we can do is get more qualifying bonus points and win rounds on Sunday.”

At the Northwest Nationals the R+L Carriers Top Fuel team posted the quickest run of the first qualifying session and the second quickest run of the final qualifying session collecting five valuable bonus points. It was the most bonus points earned in the category and showed Hart’s team was moving in the right direction. The past two years at Sonoma Raceway Hart has started the race No. 7 and No. 4 in qualifying so the opportunity for quick runs is a real possibility.

Last year Hart had one of the quickest and most consistent race cars in qualifying and on race day. His bid to win the Sonoma Nationals came to an end in the semifinals to eventual race winner Justin Ashley. In that race Hart was first off the starting line with a spectacular .035 second reaction time but lost the race by .008 seconds which translates to approximately four feet at over 325 miles per hour.

“We were on our game last year in Sonoma and I want to duplicate that effort,” said Hart. “My lights were solid, and I want to bring that level of intensity to the rest of the season. This whole team has worked very hard, and it takes a Herculean effort to win one of these races. I have full confidence in everyone on this R+L Carriers team that we can get the job done and get back into the winner’s circle.”

Hart and the R+L Carriers Top Fuel team will get two shots at the track on Friday, July 26 at 5:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. followed by two more sessions on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Final eliminations for the quickest 16 Top Fuel dragsters will begin on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with the race being broadcast nationally on FOX.

CHILLICOTHE, OH (July 24, 2024) – When the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models return to Atomic Speedway in August, there will only be 10 races left in the 2024 season to crown at champion.

The doubleheader weekend, Friday-Saturday, Aug. 23-24, will kick off that road to the World of Outlaws World Finals with the best Late Model drivers in the country competing for $10,000 on Friday and $15,000 on Saturday for the Fireball 50.

The 3/8-mile Ohio dirt track has produced some of the Series’ best races each year. There have been four different winners in the last four races – Tyler Erb, four-time Series champion Brandon Sheppard, 2018 Series champion Mike Marlar, and reigning Series champion Bobby Pierce.

Erb, who won the 2024 DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Model title, is currently the only driver with multiple Series wins at Atomic. He won in 2022 and swept the two-day event in 2018.

The event will also be the final time Ohio race fans can see the World of Outlaws Late Models in the “Buckeye State” this year.

HULL MAKES LONG AWAITED RETURN TO SONOMA RACEWAY

LONG BEACH, CA (July 24, 2024) — The last time rookie Funny Car driver Buddy Hull competed at Sonoma Raceway, it was his rookie Top Fuel season, and one of his first NHRA national events. A lot has changed since 2021, but his drive to make the most of his circumstances and win rounds has not. Now a driver for the iconic Jim Dunn Racing team, this weekend at the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals, July 26-28, Hull is doing everything he can to improve his qualifying position in a way that will better his chances come race day.

“When I was last at the Sonoma Nationals in 2021, it was one of my best qualifying efforts to date, at the No. 10 spot,” said Hull. “This season we have been working hard to get the best qualifying position possible. Where you qualify can make such a difference on race day. The team is working incredibly hard to get us there, and I just need to continue to treat every qualifying run like it’s an elimination round and do my job on the starting line.”

The Sonoma Nationals will be Hull’s 12th NHRA national event as a Funny Car driver. Since the beginning of the season, he’s appeared in the opposite lane on race day against seven other Funny Car drivers including John Force, Matt Hagan and Ron Capps, the continuation of a lifelong dream.

“I still can’t believe how blessed I am to be doing what I am now doing,” said Hull. “I have been a Funny Car fan for as long as I can remember, so being able to call myself a Funny Car driver is still a pinch-me experience. I will never take for granted being able to wrangle one of these cars and work with such a great group of people.”

To help give back to the racing community that Hull is so thankful for, Hull will be a featured driver for the Karting for a Cause event and the 16th Annual Eric Medlen Nitro Night. Both events are on Thursday, July 25, and will benefit Speedway Children’s Charities.

“It’s an honor to recognize the lasting legacy of Eric Medlen,” said Hull. “I love giving back through events like this because we’re able to make a difference in children’s lives while also showing off the best parts of our sport.”

Another highlight for the weekend will be new sponsors Alo and Jenji Boba Tea, two madly popular organic beverages that will adorn the rear wing of Hull’s Lescure Mechanical Services Funny Car for the second race in a row. ALO Drink is the No. 1 aloe vera beverage brand, because of their dedication to using real aloe vera straight from the leaf and combining it with fruit and vegetable juices, and only the best Non-GMO or organic ingredients. Jenji Boba Tea is made with an exclusive Coco Jelly Boba, which offers a lighter, lower carb alternative to traditional tapioca pearls. Jenji embraces the delightful chewiness of boba in a more blissful experience.

“It was so awesome to have Alo and Jenji Boba Tea join us in Seattle, and we are proud to represent them again during the second race of the Western Swing,” said Hull. “At home I love to host and keep my fridge stocked with a variety of drinks that my guests will enjoy, so this budding partnership has opened up a whole new world of drink options I can’t wait to share with my friends on and off of the track.”

Season-long sponsor Lescure Mechanical Services will once again be highlighted on the Jim Dunn Racing Funny Car body. In addition to Lescure, Alo and Jenji, Hull will be repping other long-term sponsors Vertex Roofers and General Contractors, Solid Start/True Brand Products, Blaze Exhaust Probes, Crow Safety, KGC Construction, Koppl Pipeline Services, Mooneyes, Good Vibrations Motorsports, Powerbuilt Tools and Wiley X.

“This is going to be a fantastic back-to-back weekend of racing, coming off of the continued progress we had in Seattle,” said Hull. “I’m looking forward to getting back out on the track and giving back to the community in a big way this weekend.”

Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing team will make two qualifying runs on Friday, July 26 and two qualifying runs on Saturday, July 27 at Sonoma Raceway. The top 16 quickest Funny Cars in the field will then compete for the final Western Swing Wally on Sunday, July 28. The first round of eliminations will begin on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. PST. Fans can watch the finals on FOX. For tickets or more information on the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals visit nhra.com.

FORCE OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND INTO OUTPATIENT CARE

FORCE OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND INTO OUTPATIENT CARE
Hall of Fame Owner and Driver Will Continue Treatment Closer to California Home
PHOENIX, Ariz. (July 23, 2024) – A month after an engine explosion sent his race car careening into a concrete guardwall at more than 300 miles per hour at Virginia Motorsports Park, drag racing champion John Force was discharged Tuesday from Barrow Neurological Institute, where he was undergoing rehab for a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
According to family members, while the 16-time Funny Car Champion will continue to work with therapists specializing in such injuries, it now will be on an outpatient basis in California.
“He finally gets to sleep in his own bed,” said daughter Ashley Hood who, with sisters Brittany, Courtney and Adria and mother, Laurie, maintained a constant presence through the Hall of Fame driver and car owner’s hospitalizations in Virginia and Arizona.  The next phase in the recovery process will be outpatient speech, as well as OTPT (Occupational and Physical Therapy) to address lingering short-term memory and cognitive issues.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: World of Outlaws Set for Three Pennsylvania Races, 2024’s Lone New York Stop

BAPS and Williams Grove rekindle the PA Posse rivalry before a Sunday visit to WeedsportYORK HAVEN, PA (July 23, 2024) – The summer stretch continues with another busy week of action for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars.First, Sprint Car racing’s fiercest rivalry resumes with three races over four nights in Pennsylvania where the Posse awaits. Then, it’s north to New York for the season’s one visit to the “Empire State.”The Greatest Show on Dirt gets the week started with a Wednesday, July 24, visit to York Haven, PA’s BAPS Motor Speedway for the Bricker’s Bash. The Series made a thrilling return to BAPS for the first time in 32 years last season. Then, the weekend brings the tour to the iconic Williams Grove Speedway (Mechanicsburg, PA) for the C&D Rigging Summer Nationals on July 26-27. With weather wiping out the Morgan Cup finale in May, the traditional $5,000 bonus carries over to Friday’s opener, making it $17,000-to-win before a $20,000-to-win finale on Saturday. After racing wraps up at “The Grove,” the teams will journey to New York’s Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, July 28. The Empire State Challenge will be 2024’s lone visit to New York for the World of Outlaws.BUY BAPS TICKETS HERE

Last week he won three of the five races he contested including Eldora Speedway’s 41st running of the Kings Royal, pushing his 2024 earnings over half a million dollars. The Watertown, CT native hasn’t finished outside the top 10 since May 25 at Atomic Speedway. Gravel leads the Series standings by 66 markers as he chases his first title. The stats suggest the hot streak could continue for Gravel and his Big Game Motorsports team with four races in five nights ahead. Last year, Gravel topped the return to BAPS in his debut at the facility. Williams Grove is the winningest track on his résumé as he’s taken eight trips to Victory Lane.Weedsport has also been incredibly kind to the 32-year-old. Three of the last four races at the New York oval were topped by him, putting him in a tie with Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz for the most Weedsport wins. The one race he didn’t win was a runner-up in 2022.NOT GOING QUIETLY: While Gravel may look unstoppable at the moment, Donny Schatz continues to lurk and won’t go down without a fight in the hunt for his 11th title. Gravel said it himself after the Kings Royal of Schatz, “You can’t put that guy away.”Despite Gravel’s incredible week, Schatz only gave up eight points in the championship chase. He passed a combined 48 cars in the three Series races leading to finishes of second, fourth, and second and also grabbed a win a week and a half ago at Wilmot. Schatz’s only BAPS start led to a 12th place run last season, but his success at Williams Grove is off the charts. The 10-time Series champion owns 21 World of Outlaws victories at the half mile, which ranks behind only Steve Kinser’s tally of 38. Over at Weedsport, the driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb Agajanian Racing No. 15 hasn’t missed the top 10 in seven tries and has three victories (2015, 2016, 2022).POSSE TURNED OUTLAWS: With the strong landscape of Sprint Car racing in Pennsylvania, the Posse often send stars to the national ranks. And such is the case for a pair of World of Outlaws stars returning to their roots this week.Logan Schuchart is amid his 11th season with the World of Outlaws since departing the Hanover, PA porch for the tour in 2014. Last year, Schuchart got a long-awaited first Williams Grove victory when he pulled off a miracle last lap pass to top the Summer Nationals opener. The Shark Racing driver picked up a BAPS podium when the Series returned last year.Jonestown, PA native Brock Zearfoss is taking on his fourth season with The Greatest Show on Dirt. In 2017, before he even became a full-time competitor, Zearfoss drove Aaron Long’s No. 58 to a World of Outlaws win at Williams Grove to represent the Posse. The “Jonestown Jet” owns four local podiums at BAPS.CA POSSE: California is thousands of miles from Pennsylvania with dirt tracks characterized much differently, but a pair of current World of Outlaws drivers from the “Golden State” have excelled in PA.Fresno, CA’s Giovanni Scelzi has won at both Pennsylvania tracks on the agenda. Two years ago, he and KCP Racing topped a local show before joining the World of Outlaws tour. Rewind the clock even further back to 2018 when “Hot Sauce” scored his first Series victory at Williams Grove to become the youngest winner in World of Outlaws history – a record that still stands.Carson Macedo has collected a trio of Williams Grove trophies including the 2021 National Open, making him only the second Californian to claim the crown jewel. The Lemoore, CA driver is yet to win at BAPS in two attempts with a best of fourth last year.PA PRIDE: As always when the World of Outlaws invade the “Keystone State,” the Posse will be ready to give their best to protect the porch. Pennsylvania always gives the nation’s best Sprint Car drivers some of the toughest competition they’ll face all year.Anthony Macri (Dillsburg, PA) leads the way for the local contingent. His 12 wins in 2024 are tied for the most in the nation, and 10 of them have come within the borders of Pennsylvania including one at BAPS and a trio at Williams Grove. The “Concrete Kid” has beaten the World of Outlaws three times in his career, but those checkered flags came courtesy of Port Royal Speedway (twice) and Lincoln Speedway.Gettysburg, PA’s Danny Dietrich is always a threat in the Gary Kauffman Racing No. 48 when the World of Outlaws come to town. A pair of his five career Series victories occurred at Williams Grove, and he’s topped a total of 31 races at the half mile, including two this year. He’s won twice locally at BAPS this year, upping his total there to 20.Troy Wagaman Jr. (Hanover, PA) and Heffner Racing have proven to be a potent combo this season. Wagaman took the iconic No. 27 to Williams Grove Victory Lane on April 26, and he’s run on the podium in half of his 12 Feature starts there this season. He also won at BAPS last October and has finished sixth or better in four of his five tries at the York Haven, PA oval this year.Expect these three to be joined by the likes of Freddie Rahmer (Salfordville, PA), Chase Dietz (York, PA), Dylan Norris (Hanover, PA), and many more at BAPS and Williams Grove.EMPIRE STATE EXCELLENCE: While not as notorious as the PA Posse, New York boasts its own group of locals eager to have strong showings when the country’s top Sprint Car talent invades.Sharon Springs, NY’s Danny Varin is always stout at Weedsport. He started on the pole of last year’s World of Outlaws visit, and he’s already an Empire Super Sprints (ESS) winner there in 2024, topping a race earlier this month.Super DIRTcar Series star Larry Wight likes to trade the Big Block Modified for a Sprint Car when The Greatest Show on Dirt visits New York. “Lightning” has finished in the top 10 in his last three World of Outlaws runs at Weedsport and won there with ESS last October.Matt Farnham (Tanawanda, NY) nearly won with the All-Stars at Weedsport last year, leading many laps before finishing fifth. This trio along with more New Yorkers are expected to enter the Weedsport pit area on Sunday.THIS WEEKEND AT A GLANCEWHEN AND WHERE Wednesday, July 24 at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, PA

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Prairie Dirt Classic, Wilmot Debut Pit World of Outlaws Stars Against Fast Locals

The World of Outlaws makes its second 2024 visit to Illinois and Wisconsin for three nights of racing in four days

FAIRBURY, IL (July 23, 2024) – Dirt Late Model history will be tested and written.

A two-state trip to Illinois and Wisconsin has the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models chasing glory and adding a new chapter to the record books.

First on the docket, welcoming fans far and wide, the small town of Fairbury, IL hosts the World of Outlaws for the 34th Annual Prairie Dirt Classic, Friday-Saturday, July 26-27. Then, the Series will make its debut at Wilmot Raceway on Monday, July 29.

Racing from Fairbury commences on Friday, July 26, with four 25-lap Prairie Dirt Showdown Feature races that boast a $5,000 payday. The top four finishers from each Feature will clinch a spot in Saturday’s Prairie Dirt Classic.

Then, it’s off to the high-stakes finale on Saturday, July 27, highlighted by the 100-lap, $50,000-to-win, Prairie Dirt Classic – which also pays $500 for every lap led, meaning one driver could leave with a $100,000 payday if they lead all 100 laps.

Then, the Series heads north of the state border to Wisconsin to chase a $10,000 payday at Wilmot on Monday.

Here are the top storylines to look out for:

Wilmot Welcome: Two days after the Prairie Dirt Classic, the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models visit Wilmot Raceway for the first time in Series history on Monday, July 29.

Known as a staple on the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series calendar, the Wisconsin facility will welcome the first national touring dirt Late Model Series to the track in the Monday night showdown for a $10,000 payday.

Dennis Erb Jr is the only Outlaw victor at the track, winning with the Dirt Kings Late Model Tour in 2018.

Standing Alone: When the Prairie Dirt Classic is on the line, you can never count out Brandon Sheppard to be in contention for the win.

The New Berlin, IL native has claimed three PDC titles (2017, 2019, and 2022) but a fourth triumph in 2024 could move Sheppard one step closer to tying racing royalty with Billy Moyer and Bob Pierce sharing the most wins with five.

With 2024 marking his first PDC hunt as the pilot of the No. B5 Sheppard Riggs Racing Longhorn Factory Team machine, Sheppard enters the week with a comfortable lead in the World of Outlaws CASE Late Model points battle as he commands by 52 points over Mooresville, NC driver Nick Hoffman.

Like Father, Like Son: Bobby Pierce stands out with the most World of Outlaws CASE Late Model Feature wins of 2024 with eight, but the Prairie Dirt Classic has slipped out of his hands through his last 10 attempts.

The Oakwood, IL driver has finished inside the podium in three of his last four PDC runs and led a combined 177 laps. His most recent visit to Fairbury in October of 2023 resulted in his first World of Outlaws Feature win at the 1/4-mile dirt track and sealed his maiden championship with “The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet.”

The “Smooth Operator” enters the weekend with red-hot momentum after winning the last four Series races, including the NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Speedway, the Billy Winn Classic at Bedford Speedway, and a sweep of Features at Sharon Speedway. With the July winning streak, Pierce joined Moyer, Rick Eckert, Darrell Lanigan, Josh Richards, and Brandon Sheppard as the only drivers to win four straight Series Feature races.

Can he break through for glory at Fairbury? If so, Pierce will join his dad Bob to become the first father-son duo to win the Prairie Dirt Classic.

RTJ Chasing Back-to-Back: While uncertainty has plagued Ricky Thornton Jr. the last few weeks, one thing that is for sure is the 2023 Prairie Dirt Classic champion will be back to defend his title. This year, it’ll be behind the wheel of Kevin Rumley’s No. 6 Late Model.

The Chandler, AZ native’s night in 2023 almost ended early with a broken crank trigger on Lap 81, but he made the most out of the final 19 laps to swing by Pierce for the $50,000 prize and an extra $12,000 in lap money to win an overall $62,000.

Thornton is racing to break the mold as the first driver to win consecutive Prairie Dirt Classic Features since Bob Pierce won three straight from 1999 to 2001.

Sweet Home Illinois: Out of the 34 editions of the Prairie Dirt Classic, 17 have been won by a driver from Illinois.

Jason Feger, of Bloomington, IL, and Shannon Babb, of Moweaqua, IL, enter Fairbury’s gates as previous event winners. Feger won in 2012 while Babb won the PDC thrice (2002, 2006, and 2013).

With 2024 marking 20 years since he first won the Prairie Dirt Classic, 2022 World of Outlaws champ Dennis Erb Jr looks to break a 46-race winless streak with the Series at his home state track. The Carpentersville, IL driver finished seventh in the 2023 running.

While Brian Shirley seeks his first Prairie Dirt Classic win, he has two Prairie Dirt Shootout wins to account for entering the weekend. The Chatham, IL driver won his first World of Outlaws Feature of 2024 at a similar bullring in North Dakota’s River Cities Speedway at the end of June.

Heavy Hitters: Alongside the invasion of Illinois locals and the World of Outlaws stars, the Prairie Dirt Classic is expected to host one of the toughest fields of Late Models in 2024.

Reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Hudson O’Neal joins the fray in his SSI Motorsports No. 71 to best his top-five finish from 2023 in just his fourth career start in the PDC.

Double Down Motorsports pilot Devin Moran won the 2018 edition of the FALS classic as he goes for a second win in 2024. Moran began the 2024 World of Outlaws season with two victories at Volusia Speedway Park, including the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals overall title.

Blairsville, GA native Jonathan Davenport will chase his second PDC title in 2024 with the World of Outlaws. “Superman” picked up his latest Late Model crown jewel win in June with his third Eldora Dirt Late Model Dreamvictory.

Watertown, NY driver Tim McCreadie will land his Rocket1 Racing Late Model at the Illinois 1/4-mile to chase his second PDC win on the 10th anniversary of his first victory.

Former World of Outlaws CASE Late Models champions Shane Clanton and Mike Marlar make their case for a first PDC title in 2024. Clanton, of Zebulon, GA, and Marlar, of Winfield, TN, have each won two Prairie Dirt Showdowns individually.

Scott Dean Triumphs Again: Back-to-Back Wins with Randy Meyer Racing, Now Central Regional Points Leader

Jul 23, 2024 | Featured, Race Results

Randy Meyer Racing (RMR) is thrilled to announce that driver Scott Dean has secured another impressive victory at the 2024 NHRA Regional Race at Brainerd International Raceway this past weekend. This marks Scott’s second consecutive win in the Top Alcohol Dragster class with RMR, further solidifying his position as the Central Regional points leader.

Scott’s performance this season has been nothing short of spectacular. Currently the reigning NHRA Top Dragster class champion, Scott has continued to dominate the track in the next class up. In Brainerd, he clinched the number one qualifier spot with a blazing 5.332-second pass at 269.40 mph in the GUNK-sponsored nitro dragster to set the tone for a thrilling race day.

The first round race against Aaron Cooper was a nail-biter. Despite smoking the tires, Scott expertly saved the run, finishing with an 8.200-second pass at 207.05 mph, outpacing Cooper’s 0.080 reaction time and 12.242-second run at 77.35 mph. Scott’s skill and determination were on full display as he had an exceptional reaction time and navigated the challenges of the track.

In the second round, Scott faced Jared Dreher, delivering the quickest pass of the weekend at 5.307 seconds and 267.75 mph. The final showdown against Jamie Noonan showcased Scott’s consistency and precision, with a remarkable 0.012 reaction time and a 5.322-second pass at 273.39 mph, defeating Noonan’s 0.021 reaction time and 5.895-second run at 219.36 mph.

Scott Dean shared his excitement after the race, saying, “The RMR hot rod is ROLLING right now! Number 1 qualifier, low ET in eliminations, and another WIN for the Gunk, Maxima Racing Oils, NGK Spark Plugs and Shop Squad Top Alcohol Dragster! Thank you to Randy and the entire Team for providing the best equipment. My personal goal at the beginning of this season was to win the Central Region Championship, and we are working through every race toward that very result! Let’s finish the year strong!”

With three more regional races remaining this year, Scott Dean is poised to extend his lead and aim for the championship. His back-to-back victories and current status as the Central Regional points leader demonstrate his exceptional talent and unwavering commitment to excellence in drag racing.

Randy Meyer Racing congratulates Scott Dean on his outstanding performance and looks forward to supporting him as he continues his pursuit of championship glory.

HERBST WINS IN INDIANAPOLIS TO COMPLETE A STEWART-HAAS RACING FRONT ROW SWEEP

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – July 22, 2024 – Stewart-Haas Racing’s Riley Herbst won Saturday’s Pennzoil 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, marking his first win of the season and ninth top-10. The win also marked Stewart-Haas Racing’s 27th Xfinity Series victory and 103rd win overall.
“Congratulations to Tony, Gene, Davin, Riley, and everyone at Stewart-Haas Racing on the race win at Indianapolis,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “Both Stewart-Haas cars were fast in qualifying and throughout the race. It’s always special to win here and excited to be back on the oval!”
“This is Indianapolis. This is the most famous racetrack in the world and it is an honor just to walk in this place, let alone win. We had speed all year and I felt like we could win but I just messed up on the restarts a little bit. It was a good fight. I thought I had Cole clear and then he slid bottom of three with the 20 and I thought it was going to be tough. I just continued to work. It has been a pretty tough week on me mentally to be honest with you. I am proud of these guys and everybody at Stewart-Haas Racing,” commented Herbst.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Brickyard 400, both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series returned to the 2.5-mile oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this year after previously racing on the road course. Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Cole Custer and Riley Herbst swept the front row in Xfinity Series qualifying with Custer on the pole and Herbst on the outside of the front row. Custer was out front for the beginning of the race until a caution on lap 18 created different pit strategies and most cars decided to pit. Riley Herbst opted to stay out instead of pitting to win Stage 1, earning 10 bonus points and one playoff point. On lap 56, RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg was one of three cars that stayed out instead of pitting, cycling him to the front of the field. Following a one lap shootout until the end of the stage, Sieg was able to hold off second place Aric Almirola to take the stage win. The last stage of the race came down to a battle between Riley Herbst, Cole Custer, and Aric Almirola. On turn 4 of the last lap, Herbst made the race-winning pass on Aric Almirola and Cole Custer followed. Herbst finished .167 seconds in front of teammate Cole Custer. The two teammates led 77 of the 100 total laps.
Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Cole Custer finished in P2 while RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg finished in P11.
The NASCAR Cup Series also raced at Indianapolis on Sunday. Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney finished in P3, Front Row Motorsports’ Todd Gilliland in P6, Team Penske’s Austin Cindric in P7, and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Noah Gragson in P9.
Both the Xfinity and Cup Series take a break for the Olympics and racing resumes on August 11th with the Cup Series race at Richmond.

The TorqStorm Superchargers NMRA/NMCA Power Festival presented by Nitto Tire & Saturday Thrill Festival promised all-out racing, action, and activities as far as the eye could see, and by all accounts, it delivered.

The event held July 19-21, 2024 at US 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan, saw racers with gumption as well as grace under pressuregiving it their all to arrive in the winner’s circle. They have proven, time after time, that they will put in the work that it takes to push to the winner’s circle despite the caliber of competition, and that is inspiring.

It is also appreciated by all of the fans who come to the events, including this one in the Great Lakes State, which also spotlighted Jurassic Attack Monster Truck car crushes, FMX Freestyle Motocross stunt shows, Tom Bailey’s Drag & Drive Invitational, TV personality Clarence Barnes and the Win Free Stuff NMRA/NMCA Fan Experience, UPR Products Car Show and a manufacturers’ midway.

While we are recapping the fifth event on the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals tour, a separate race wrap covers this fourth event on the Red Line Oil NMCA Muscle Car Nationals tour.

Racers in NMRA VP Racing Lubricants Renegade and NMCA Edelbrock Xtreme Street shared the stage and showed exactly what they are made of. Each of the 33 was capable of earning the win among the exceptional competition, and among them were Camren Massengale and Joel Greathouse. After five hard-fought rounds, they met in the sixth and final round of eliminations, where Massengale won when Greathouse ran into trouble and coasted down-track.

Wreck Leaves Burton, Draiver Team 36th At Indianapolis

July 22, 2024

After a promising start to Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Draiver team were collected in a multi-car crash on a Lap 74 restart and left with a 36th-place finish.

Burton and the Draiver Mustang Dark Horse took the green flag from 16th place and ran in the top 15 throughout the first 50-lap Stage, ending that segment in 15th place.

The Draiver crew added two fresh tires and fuel to the No. 21 Mustang during the caution flag at the end of the Stage and returned to the track, again running among the top 15.

Another stop under caution at Lap 69 saw the team employ the same pit strategy, but just after the race restarted Burton was one of three drivers who saw their race come to an end due to contact on the backstretch.

Burton was able to drive the Draiver Mustang Dark Horse back around the track, but the damage to the front suspension was too much to continue.

The Cup Series now takes a two-week break during the Olympics and will return to action on Aug. 11 with the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway.

PROCK ROCKETS TOFOURTH WIN IN CORNWELL CAMARO

Funny Car Point Leader Beats Veteran Paul Lee in Final Round at 35th Northwest Nationals
KENT, Wash. (July 21, 2024) – Austin Prock completed a near perfect weekend at Pacific Raceways Sunday, driving his Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS past Paul Lee’s Dodge in the final round to secure a wire-to-wire victory in the 35th NHRA Northwest Nationals.
“There’s nothing better than racing for family and racing for John Force,” said the runaway point leader. “An amazing day, another great day for this Cornwell Tools Camaro. I mean this year has been unreal, man. I can’t even put into words all the success that we’ve had. It’s just been a blur and I’ve been hanging on.”
In becoming just the fourth driver to win the Northwest’s biggest drag race in both the Funny Car and Top Fuel categories, Prock earned the most points possible and will move on to this week’s Sonoma Nationals with a 256-point cushion over Bob Tasca III and Matt Hagan, who share second place with just three races remaining in the regular season.
It was another three-hat weekend for the former oval track and Top Fuel racer who, in addition to getting a red Mission Foods hat for qualifying No. 1 and a black one for winning Sunday’s main event, also got a yellow topper for his Saturday win in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge.
“(Force) told me before I got here, he said ‘hold down the fort for me,’ and we did just that,” Prock beamed.
The only thing the fourth generation racer didn’t leave with was the 3.832 second track record set in 2015 by Del Worsham. He came close, though, twice accelerating through the 1000-foot course in 3.838 seconds. His Sunday sequence on a track known for its challenges, was 3.838, 3.880, 3.884 and 3.875, the latter coupled to a speed of 334.57 miles per hour.
Prock’s fourth Funny Car victory equaled his three-season production at the wheel of the Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist dragster he drove as JFR teammate to Brittany Force. Rocky Mountain Twist was another of the late Frank Tiegs’ companies.
While it was not the “welcome back” result she had anticipated, getting back behind the wheel of her national record-holding Flav-R-Pac Top Fuel dragster was good therapy for Brittany in the aftermath of her dad’s 300 mph crash last month at Richmond, Va.
“I’m really glad to be back after a month out of the seat,” said the two-time Top Fuel world champion, “to be back with my team and to just get back in the swing of things. It was also great being here with the Frank Tiegs family. We haven’t seen them since last year and to just be able to sit down, hang out with them and reminisce and talk about old times with Frank. He always told me ‘go out there and have fun’ and we did that today.”
After missing the Summit Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, while 16-time Funny Car Champion John Force battled through the effects of a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), the 38-year-old qualified in the No. 3 position but couldn’t duplicate her qualifying performance in round one where she was eliminated by eight-time series champ Tony Schumacher after her car slowed to 4.271 seconds at only 193.21 mph.
“It’s really unfortunate,” she said of the early exit. “We had a really good qualifying weekend. We qualified third and made four solid passes. I left good alongside Schumacher. We were out ahead. I couldn’t see him….and then the car just quit. Pan pressure automatically shut our car off. We had no power (and) I was just coasting to the finish line.
“This was a special weekend,” she said. “My dad’s at home watching (and) Frank Tiegs and Flav-R-Pac were on the car. We wanted to do well for them.”
Despite Sunday’s result, the 2013 NHRA Rookie of the Year stayed tenth in points and remained optimistic about her chances in the upcoming Countdown to the Championship.

I’ll hang out with the rest of the family, the rest of the day, and the fans, and cheer Austin Prock on. I’m really glad just to be back after, you know, after a month out of the seat, and be back with my team. TORRENCE CLAIMS BACK-TO-BACK NORTHWEST NATIONALS VICTORIES

Toyota now has 11 Top Fuel wins in the last 12 NHRA events

KENT, Wash. (July 21, 2024) – For the second year in a row, Steve Torrence captured the Wally Trophy at Pacific Raceways and the NHRA Northwest Nationals as the day concluded Sunday afternoon. This is Torrence’s first victory of the 2024 season, his first win since this race a season ago, and the 55th of his career which puts him equal with Doug Kalitta in fourth on the all-time Top Fuel wins list. Torrence’s triumph is the 11th win in the last 12 Top Fuel events for Toyota.

Torrence had to defeat Toyota teammate, Shawn Langdon, in the finals, who made his fifth final round of the season. With the finals appearances by Torrence and Langdon, Toyota has now reached the final round in 34 consecutive NHRA events in either Top Fuel and/or Funny Car.

After Sunday’s action, Toyota still owns the top-five positions in the Top Fuel points standings, with Doug Kalitta now leading teammate, Langdon, heading to Sonoma next weekend.

In Funny Car, J.R Todd advanced to the semifinals for the seventh time in 2024 but fell to Austin Prock by 0.037 seconds in the penultimate round. In round one, Ron Capps suffered an engine explosion and made contact with the wall before coming to a stop. Capps was alert, exited the car under his own power and was examined by the NHRA Medical Team before being released.

NHRA is right back in action next weekend at Sonoma Raceway for the twelfth event of the 2024 season.

TOYOTA QUOTES

STEVE TORRENCE, CAPCO Contractors Toyota Top Fuel Dragster, Torrence Racing

TF Final Result: Winner

Talk about that final round and what this win means.

“Man, I tell you what, you take these things for granted when you get them pretty often. We’re taking this one home to my new baby girl. My wife (Natalie)’s birthday. It’s been a while. Heck, I’m out of breath and didn’t do nothing but hit the gas like three times. Shawn Langdon, Kalitta Air. Those guys have been bad-to-the-bone. I told you earlier, I was trying to take him out all day. But these CAPCO boys, Toyota, Mac Tools. We don’t have a lot of partners, but the ones we do, we think highly of and they’re the best. This is pretty cool man. One year to the day. Wasn’t sure if we were going to win one of these for a while. Richard Hogan (crew chief), Bobby (Lagana Jr., assistant crew chief). Sometimes us Torrences are hard to deal with, but them guys handle us pretty good. Thank you, guys. And all those guys from CAPCO back at home that are keeping us out here, we appreciate y’all.”

J.R. TODD, DHL Toyota GR Supra Funny Car, Kalitta Motorsports

FC Final Result: Semifinals

Can you overview your day and your outlook for Sonoma?

“Pretty good. The car went down the track every run and we made some really good, quick runs and it was pretty consistent all weekend. Just dropped a cylinder, we’ve been dropping cylinders all weekend so if we fix that up, I think we have a really good chance of competing for a win in Sonoma.”

Going to Sonoma as the event winner, what’s that going to be like for next weekend?

“Yeah, it’s one of my favorite tracks. We’ve had a lot of success there in the past, so it’s nice to be going back to a track that we’ve won at in the past and hopefully we can compete.”

RON CAPPS, NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra Funny Car, Ron Capps Motorsports

FC Final Result: First Round

Take us through that accident and how you’re feeling.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just such a bummer. First and foremost, Guido (Dean Antonelli, crew chief) and our NAPA Auto Care guys work so hard on the safety aspect. And I know John Force is watching and he’s a big reason for a lot of the safety reasons on the car. It beat my head around pretty good. But obviously, I’m fine. Just bummed as a team owner. We run a good Toyota Supra body and unfortunately, lost that round and we were really looking forward to vying for a win here. But we’re well-prepared. Best parts in the world. Best people in the world. I was staging the car, and it had some sprinkles on the windshield. None that I was worried about, but I knew Guido was trying to put in a decent run to give us lane choice in the next round and it’s my fault for over-abusing it. I’m pretty decent at pedaling these cars. Just seeing Gary Densham out the window, I don’t think I waited long enough like I normally do to keep it rolling a nitro engine like this. We’ll be good. We’ll head to Sonoma. The backup car we had upstairs (in the hauler) is a car that won a lot of races for us the last couple years, so again, Guido and the guys are as prepared as any team out here, if not more so. We’re already ready to run. All good.”

JOSH HART RACES TO QUARTERFINALS IN SEATTLE

SEATTLE, WA (July 21, 2024) — After a lengthy layoff following a tough outing at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, Josh Hart and the R+L Carriers team made major changes. This weekend at the Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways outside of Seattle, Washington, Hart had his strongest qualifying effort of the season and raced to the quarterfinals losing a close race to eventual runner-up Shawn Langdon today. Through two days of qualifying Hart’s R+L Carriers Top Fuel dragster was the quickest dragster of the first qualifying session on Friday and the second quickest dragster of the final qualifying session yesterday. The team earned five bonus points for the effort and headed into race day as the No. 8 qualifier.

“I was very pleased with how this team bounced back after Norwalk and performed in qualifying this weekend,” said Hart, a two-time Top Fuel national event winner. “We added veteran crew chief John Stewart to work with my primary crew chief Ron Douglas, plus we tested in Indianapolis last week. Those changes are starting to pay off this weekend.”

Going into race day Hart had posted solid qualifying runs of 3.804 seconds and 3.809 seconds in similar conditions. In the Friday night session under cooler conditions Hart stepped up with a 3.748 second run and his first round opponent Antron Brown was slightly quicker with a 3.746 second pass to set him up as the No. 7 qualifier. It was an even match-up pitting two of the best leavers in the category against each other to start race day.

Hart and Brown were the first pair of Top Fuel dragsters to start the first round and it was Hart getting the jump off the starting line with a .065 second reaction time. Hart never trailed in the race pulling away from Brown as the R+L Carriers rocketed down the Pacific Raceways racetrack. Hart’s winning elapsed time of 3.742 seconds at 328.94 mph was almost identical to his quickest run in qualifying.

“That was a big win for this R+L Carriers and Burnyzz Speed Shop Top Fuel team,” said Hart, after the run. “There are a lot of guys working their tails off to move us in the right direction. I am so proud of everyone on this team that is pulling together to get us moving forward. We will have a tough competitor in the next round with Shawn Langdon, but I am feeling really good about our team.”

In the quarterfinals Hart once again was first off the starting line with a .062 second reaction time. Both 12,000-horsepower Top Fuel dragsters were welded together at half-track and Langdon was able to get the nose of his dragster out in front as the finish line closed in. At the finish line stripe Langdon’s 3.721 second pass was just slightly quicker than Hart’s 3.779 second run.

“I am so blessed to be able to race at this level with this great team,” said Hart, from the top end. “All the glory goes to God and I have to thank him and all the guys working on my team. I don’t think people understand how many people are working behind the scenes to give me the opportunity to race this R+L Carriers Top Fuel dragster. We made big strides this weekend and I can’t wait to get to Sonoma next weekend.”

In five days, Hart and the R+L Carriers Top Fuel team will be back in action at the Sonoma Nationals for two qualifying sessions on Friday, July 26 followed by another day of qualifying on Saturday, July 27 before final eliminations on Sunday, July 28 from Sonoma Raceway. Last year Hart raced to the semifinals and will be looking forward to picking up his first win of the 2024 season.

HULL LEAVES SEATTLE WITH POSITIVE ATTITUDE

SEATTLE (July 21, 2024) — Patience is a virtue that is often rewarded, and Funny Car driver Buddy Hull will continue to be patient. The rookie Funny Car driver for Jim Dunn Racing extended his four-race streak of solid, consistent runs that he is confident will soon turn into round wins at the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways, situated in the Seattle area. Racing with Alo and Jenji Boba Tea, the two wildly popular organic beverages adorning the rear wing of the Lescure Funny Car for the next two events Hull and the Jim Dunn team were looking to continue to put up strong performance numbers.

“I don’t think I could explain enough the confidence our team has had these last three races versus the first five or six of the year. It’s a completely different team,” said Hull. “And it’s because almost every run we’re going down the racetrack. We’re not running three second runs yet, but we’re running low fours. It’s only a matter of time before we make our first three-second run and before our first round win.”

The Dallas-native qualified in the No. 13 spot during his inaugural appearance at Pacific Raceways. For the first time, he faced J.R. Todd in the first round on race day. Todd is the seventh different Funny Car driver Hull has raced against this season.

“In that run against J.R., we must have left pretty close, and it had to have been a good race because I could hear him, but I couldn’t see him,” said Hull. “We’re approaching the Countdown and we’re already thinking about U.S. Nationals. We’re still moving in the right direction, and solid runs like that one will help us get to where we need to be.”

Hull’s best run of the weekend came during the second round of qualifying, with a 4.076 second, 312.57 mph pass. What set this weekend apart from the others is an improvement in parts on the car.

“A lot of these new parts that we got started this year are doing what they’re being told to do now, and we found some little things in the racecar that weren’t so obvious initially, but were holding us back,” said Hull. “We have a brand-new supercharger we put in for this race, and it did exactly what it was supposed to do, making more boosts and it’s significantly more efficient than what we were running before. So all of that is really positive.”

When reflecting on his experience out West, Hull has only an optimistic outlook. This was the first of two races where he competed with a Lescure Mechanical Services car body, and he’s confident next weekend at the Sonoma Nationals he’ll be able to make his season-long sponsor even prouder.

“This was my first time at this track and in this area, and the first word that comes to mind is that it’s beautiful,” said Hull. “My wife’s family’s is from around here, so it was a cool opportunity to see a little bit of the area and many of her family members. And the owners of this racetrack are incredible. They truly care about their racetrack, the racers and the fans. All weekend I saw their passion, and I already can’t wait to come back next year. Each race is getting better and better, just like we are.”

Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing team will be back in competition at the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals in Sonoma, Calif. on July 26-28 at Sonoma Raceway. There will be two qualifying sessions on Friday, July 26 and two qualifying sessions on Saturday, July 27. For tickets or more information on the NHRA Sonoma Nationals visit nhra.com.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 21, 2024) – Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Camaro ZL1, added to Chevrolet’s legacy at the “Racing Capital of the World” by taking the checkered-flag in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The victory – Larson’s fourth win of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season and his 27th all-time in NASCAR’s top division – comes in NASCAR’s much anticipated return to the track’s famed 2.5-mile oval configuration, marking the crown jewel event’s first appearance in the Next Gen era.  “What a job by our team,” said Larson. “I mean, never gave up at all. We had the pit stop issue there early on. Just fought, dug and had things work out. Just can’t thank them enough. Hendrickcars.com, Valvoline, Chevrolet, JINYA Ramen Bar, Prime; all the fans, too. I love you, Indiana fans. I know you guys love me, too.” Larson added to an already prestigious list of drivers that have taken the Bowtie brand to victory lane at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with the 31-year-old Elk Grove, California, native delivering Chevrolet its 18th victory in 28 all-time NASCAR Cup Series races at the 2.5-mile oval. This isn’t Chevrolet’s first trip to victory lane at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this season. Larson’s victory is the manufacturer’s second crown jewel triumph at the famed oval this season, with Team Chevy’s Josef Newgarden also driving his No. 2 Chevrolet to his second-straight victory in the Indianapolis 500 just a few months ago.  The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season continues at Richmond Raceway with the Cook Out 400 on Sunday, August 11, at 6 p.m. ET. TEAM CHEVY POST-RACE QUOTES:
Kyle Larson, No. 5 HendrickCars.com Camaro ZL1Finished: 1stKyle, you just won the Brickyard 400. You’ve won some big races in your career. This is Indianapolis. Is this ranked No. 1 now?“It’s for sure up there. Like you mentioned, this is just such a prestigious place.. such hallowed ground. Pretty neat to get an opportunity to race here on the oval again. What a job by our team. I mean, never gave up at all. We had the pit stop issue there early on. Just fought, dug and had things work out.  Just can’t thank them enough. Hendrickcars.com, Valvoline, Chevrolet, JINYA Ramen Bar, Prime; all the fans, too. I love you, Indiana fans. I know you guys love me, too. How about we come back next May and try to kiss these bricks in an INDYCAR?”
Does this make up for the month of May when you left disappointed?“It does.. I guess a little bit. I wish we could have got to do both and run the 600. We had a phenomenal car for that race, too. I think everything just comes full circle. Everything is meant to be. Today definitely was meant to be for us. With the way the strategy was working out, Brad (Keselowski) running out of fuel and me inheriting the front row; a lot had to fall into place. Thankfully it did. I can’t believe it. It’s surreal to win here. Can’t wait to kiss the bricks with my team. Rick Hendrick, who is here; my family, my friends. My parents are here. We’ll be celebrating these next couple weeks.”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Campers Inn RV Camaro ZL1Sidelined by damage sustained in an accident in Stage Two. Finished: 37th Allmendinger on the accident that ended his day early at Indianapolis Motor Speedway: “I just saw everyone start checking up. I actually saw the No. 21 (Harrison Burton) on the bottom, so I went to go to the middle. Right as I went to the middle, the No. 24 (William Byron) was coming across. It’s just kind of the story of the year.. wrong place, wrong time.” How sketchy was it in the back of the pack?“I mean on the restarts, everyone is going to be aggressive because you know that’s the time to make up the most starts. It’s tough to pass. I felt like on our No. 16 Campers RV Chevy, we missed it. At the beginning of the race, we were really loose, so we lost some track position. We started getting it back. I felt like we kind of got into that 15th to 20th place range that we thought we would be. It’s just disappointing, but it’s part of it. The way the wreck happened, it was kind of out of my control.”

William Byron, No. 24 Valvoline Camaro ZL1Sidelined by damage sustained in an accident in Stage Two. Finished: 38thByron on the accident that ended the No. 24 Valvoline Camaro ZL1 team’s race early: “We got back there in traffic. It seemed like the pit stop sequence didn’t go our way there. The No. 14 (Chase Briscoe) was just being a squirrel back in the pack. He drove up in front of me. I had to lift way off the corner and I got run over. Hate it for our team. We had an amazing No. 24 Valvoline Chevy. We were running there on the right strategy in the top two or three; got back there in the pack and got wrecked. Appreciate everybody at Valvoline, Chevrolet. We had a great car. We’ll go on over the break and try to get some more wins.” Is it even more frustrating that it’s the Brickyard? “Yeah, I mean it sucks. We put a lot of effort into this race, but we put a lot of effort in every week.”

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 Kleenex 100 Years/Donors Choose Camaro ZL1Finished: 11th“Our No. 47 Kleenex 100 Years / Donors Choose Chevy was really good. Qualifying was really solid yesterday and that set us up to get points in both stages. The way those cautions fell, we could have done with one less of them. Running in the top-10 there, it sputtered a little bit coming to the white and then the caution came out, so that was a fortunate one.  All-in-all, happy about our day and good momentum going into the off weekends. We have had a solid month-and-a-half; two crashes late in the race, and a set of top-15s. Other than that, we have been battling for top-10s, so really happy.”

Alex Bowman, No. 48 Ally Camaro ZL1Finished: 31st“Bummer of a day. We didn’t really have a very good day going with our No. 48 Ally Camaro. We were pretty fast in clean air, but just really tight in dirty air. We were stuck in traffic there, and getting blocked all the way down the straightaway for 27th was pretty frustrating. We just didn’t need to be that far back in position. We should have been running better than that and eventually the way the strategy and the cautions fell, we got buried there. We had a lot going on and my ass was on fire at one point, so interesting day, for sure.”

Carson Hocevar, No. 77 Zeigler Auto Group Camaro ZL1Finished: 12th “It was just hard to keep on the right end of it with fuel strategy and everything, but I think we did a really good job. The yellow caught us off guard, but I think that was the difference maker in us making it. Our No. 77 Zeigler Auto Group Chevy was super strong, and to be able to capitalize from Saturday was big. We put ourselves in a hole, but we were able to claw our way up when it was really hard to pass. We put together a really good day for the No. 77 team.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 Freeway Insurance Camaro ZL1Finished: 8th“The No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevy team did a great job with the strategy. Our car wasn’t horrible, we just never had the track position that we wanted to, to show the speed of the car. We needed to be faster on the straightaways. But all-in-all, I felt like we had a decent Chevy. Still have some work to do, but the team executed a great strategy, so we will take it.”
