ON THE UPCOMING SEASON: “I look forward to the opportunity. It is another chance to win a championship, obviously win some races and get back into the victory column. I think there is a lot of exciting changes that promote a lot of positive things within our sport with respect to Monster coming in; the new points system; the chance for the accumulative effort toward the championship versus a playoff-type round system that creates everybody back to equal after you have earned something. DO YOU THINK THE SEGMENTS ARE GOOD FOR SPONSORS WHO MIGHT NOT GET A VICTORY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?
“Yeah I mean anytime you win something it’s a good thing. It opens up a few more opportunities per race to win something, even though the segments are just minutiae compared to the actual race win, but it still pays points and carries over throughout the year. That is all good, just like you said, just opportunities to get more points. I don’t know what happens if you win the first segment. CHEVROLET SS RETURNS TO DAYTONA:
The Chevrolet SS race car returns to NASCAR Cup competition for the fifth consecutive year, and will kick-off the 2017 season of competition at the 59th running of the prestigious Daytona 500. The Chevy SS made its racing debut at Daytona in 2013, where Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 Chevrolet SS team gave the model its first of 62 visits to Victory Lane (2013-’16). The Chevrolet SS is already off to a quick start in 2017 by earning its fifth consecutive pole for the Great American Race.
