KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – Race Winner
TALK ABOUT THE EMOTION OF WINNING. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
“I was teared-up that whole last few laps because I could just feel it. It was finally going to be it. This one is for the Clauson family. We really miss Bryan. We love you guys. We’re going to miss him. We parked it for him, so that’s really cool.

“We had a lot of work to do for that first third of the race, and got it done. Thanks to Target. Thanks to everyone on this team. Chad (Johnson, crew chief) and the pit crew and everybody. We messed up that last stop by we made it back.”

WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT FINAL RESTART? IT PROBABLY WASN’T AS CLEAN AS YOU WANTED IT. HOW DID YOU GET THE LEAD FROM THE NO. 24 (CHASE ELLIOTT)?
“We both spun our tires really bad. And, the No. 2 (Brad Keselowski) pushed me really good. He could have probably pulled underneath me and went by. But he stayed with me and got me the lead. So, thanks to him. I had a lot of fun.”

AFTER THAT LAST PIT STOP, WERE YOU THINKING YOUR SHOT WAS GONE BECAUSE IT DIDN’T GO WELL AND YOU WENT BACK TO FOURTH?
“Yeah, we fell back to fourth and I thought we were done. I’m sort of at a loss for words right now. My Adrenalin is going crazy right now. Thanks to all the fans who are watching. I had a good time.”

AFTER LOSING YOUR CLOSE FRIEND, BRYAN CLAUSON, DID YOU THINK A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER YOU WOULD BE CELEBRATING IN THE CHASE, WHICH YOU ARE NOW IN?
“After AJ (Allmendinger) got into us I thought we were done there at Watkins Glen. But it feels good. I just want to celebrate with everybody and have a good time.”

CHIP GANASSI, CAR OWNER, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET
HOW ABOUT THIS YOUNG MAN AND WHAT HE’S BEEN THROUGH TO GET TO THIS POINT?
“Well, he hung in there with our team. We were building. We’ve been building over the years. He came on board and did a great job. The team rallied around him. I can’t say enough about the kid and the job he’s done over the last few years and it’s been a nice gradual coming-up through the pack. And I couldn’t be more happy with Kyle right now.”

IT’S BEEN A ROUGH COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR HIM. THEY LOST 59 POINTS IN JUST TWO RACES. TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS AND TO GET YOU GUYS INTO THE CHASE, TALK ABOUT THE SIGNIFICANCE FOR YOUR TEAM
“It’s really, really big. We’ve been on the cusp for so many years. We got Jamie (McMurray) in there last year and now getting Kyle in, we couldn’t be happier. I’m kind of speechless to tell you the truth.”

AND YOU BREAK A WINLESS STREAK, TOO, OF 99 RACES
“It was a big one. It was a big one. I hate to put the onus on somebody else, but boy I’m sure glad to. And I can’t thank Target enough and all of our other sponsors that make up the team in all the series’ that we’re in. It’s one big team…all the engineers and all these people work so damn hard. And to go winless for so long is really difficult. Only one person wins in this sport. It’s like golf. There’s only one winner. And we’re just proud to be here right now. I’m really proud to represent out team and proud to represent our sponsors.”

Red Horse Racing Sweeps Top-Two Spots at Michigan International Speedway

This weekend, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams headed for the Irish Hills of Michigan for the Careers for Veterans 200 and Red Horse Racing came away with the top-two finishing positions. Brett Moffitt picked up his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win and Timothy Peters took the checkered in second at Michigan International Speedway. On Friday, during two practices at the two-mile facility, Brett Moffitt was fourth-fastest in the first and second-fastest on the board in final practice in the No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra, while Timothy Peters was 11th and 16th fastest in the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra. In two rounds of single-truck knockout qualifying on Saturday morning, Peters secured the fourth starting spot, while Moffitt began the 100-lap race in sixth-place. The race was delayed for weather, but skies cleared and trucks took the track. Peters dominated much of the day, leading 42 laps, while Moffitt spent most of the day in the top-10, but took advantage on the last lap and drove away with the win.

Brett Moffitt Wins at Michigan International Speedway

Brett Moffitt continued to impress and picked up his first career victory in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in the Careers for Veterans 200. In his last three starts, the 24-year-old has finished third, second and first. Moffitt posted the fourth and second-fastest times respectively in two practice sessions on Friday. In two rounds of single-truck knockout qualifying, Moffitt transferred to the final round to earn the sixth starting position for the 100-lap event in the No. 11 Toyota Tundra. The start of the race was delayed due to inclement weather, but the green flag flew under sunny skies. Moffitt moved into the top-five by lap 20. Under caution for the first time on lap 32 for the expiration of the caution clock, crew chief Scott Zipadelli brought Moffitt to pit road for four Goodyear tires and a full tank of Sunoco fuel. The Iowa native reported that the No. 11 Tundra was a little loose into the corner and a little tight off the corner. Moffitt restarted in the 10th position, but quickly began moving to the front of the field. Under a subsequent caution on lap 46, Moffitt hit pit road to top off with fuel. After restarting in the sixth position, Moffitt immediately moved into the fourth position and on lap 62, he took the third position. Under caution on lap 63, Zipadelli called him to pit road for two right side tires and fuel. In the remaining 37 laps, Moffitt continued to run in the top-five, taking second place with three to go. On the white flag lap, Moffitt passed teammate Timothy Peters, and recorded his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win, in just six starts.

Brett Moffitt Quotes:
What does this win mean to you?
“This has been huge. At the beginning of the year we didn’t have anything on the schedule. Coming here and these guys give me such good race trucks week in and week out. I knew it was just a matter of time. Honestly, during the race I didn’t think it was going to be our day. It was just tough out there with the draft, but what an amazing finish. It couldn’t have worked out any better for us. I can’t thank Tom DeLoach (team owner) and everybody at Red Horse Racing enough and Camping World for putting this on.”

How important is this win for you moving forward?
“Winning is awesome, no matter what the circumstance is. Last week finishing second was really frustrating for me because I have a short timetable to get the job done and I knew everyone was impressed with the runs we were having and happy, but for my sake I needed to go out there and win. This was our job to get the 11 truck in the owner’s championship and we did that and hopefully we can get another win next week and hopefully some more doors open down the road. All in all it’s been a great opportunity and a lot of fun racing when you have the right tools for the job and our partners with Toyota and Tom (DeLoach, team owner) give us those tools and me and Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) are just able to make the most of it.”

Season High Second-Place Finish for Timothy Peters at Michigan

After leading a race high 42 laps, Timothy Peters finished second, and completed a 1-2 sweep for Red Horse Racing in the Careers for Veterans 200 at Michigan International Speedway. Peters’ second-career runner-up result at MIS keeps him eighth on the Chase grid with two races remaining before the Chase for the Camping World Truck Series championship. The 100-lap contest began from the fourth position for Peters, and he quickly asserted himself as the truck to beat, taking the lead on lap six. Peters radioed crew chief Shane Huffman that his Toyota Tundra was slightly on the tight side, and the team countered with slight adjustments on a lap 33 caution. The Danville, Virginia native regained the lead on lap 24, and would pace the field on two more occasions. Peters ran in the top five for the lion’s share of the afternoon, and withstood numerous challenges and a barrage of caution flags to stay in contention in the second half of the race. Peters’ final stint out front lasted from laps 84 to 98, and he found himself in a three-way dogfight for the lead on the final lap. The ten-time NCWTS race winner would cross the line .098 seconds behind his teammate, Brett Moffitt. The result gave Red Horse Racing its first 1-2 finish since Peters finished second to John King at Daytona International Speedway in 2012.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“It was a good day for Red Horse Racing – congrats to Brett Moffitt with our one-two finish. I wish I would have won, but all in all the company brings a trophy back. The 9 (William Byron) locked onto our bumper there and pushed us really hard down into turn three, but we had to do all we could do to stay in front, but good effort by everybody at Red Horse Racing, Shane Huffman (crew chief), the pit crew, Toyota, Triad Engines – just tough to swallow right there, but it felt good to run like we did all day.”

THAT WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST RACES OF ALL TIME
“Oh, that was so much fun. I’ve got to thank the fans that came back. I didn’t think there was going to be a lot of people but whoever didn’t come missed a hell of a race. “That was some old school Texas right there. It was a good night. We started way in the back, but we made up positions right away. I think with INDYCAR not changing the rules and the earlier race being a day race, we had a ton of downforce that we had to run during tonight’s race, so the cars felt a lot closer as you could see. I had to dig into my hard drive and remember pack racing again. It worked out pretty well. Big props to the guys in front who gave each other room, that’s why we finished the way we did. It’s always a pleasure to race like that. I feel bad for the people that didn’t come back tonight from the first race to watch because it really was a hell of a show.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Texas–Post Race

Richard Childress Racing–Road America

Michael McDowell and the Rheem Chevrolet Team are Victorious at Road America

McDowell earns first NASCAR victory, No. 2 Rheem team earns second consecutive win and RCR captures third consecutive victory at Road America

“This win means so much to me. I’ve been close here at Road America so many different times and to finally get the win, it feels great. I can’t thank Rheem and Richard Childress Racing enough for this opportunity. It’s not every week you get a call to come drive equipment like this. I’ve been able to drive a lot of great cars here but haven’t been able to execute and get the win, but today we did. I was dreading the last two restarts. It happens here. You build up a good lead and the caution comes out then you have to fight for it on the restarts. I was trying to be really disciplined today by saving my tires for a green-white-checkered finish. I was anticipating there being a late-race caution, so I tried to learn a lot of the other cautions to be able to get a good restart. Brendan (Gaughan) did a great job and I had fun racing him for the lead at the end. It’s awesome for RCR to have two teams battling for the win. Thank you to everyone at RCR and everybody on this Rheem team. This is great.”

– Michael McDowell

Ty Dillon Overcomes Late-Race Struggles, Battles to a 12th-place Finish at Road America

“We got off to a great start and I felt like we had a top-five Bosch Chevrolet Camaro. Later in the race though, I wasn’t able to get into the braking zones like some of the other guys could and it really hurt us. This race is really a lot about surviving, keeping good track position and not getting run off course. We got pushed off by the 88 car towards the end and it forced us to pit under green costing us track position. We were able to fight for a 12th-place finish there at the end with a few late race passes. Congratulations to the No. 2 team and Michael McDowell on their win today.”

– Ty Dillon

Brandon Jones Recovers to a 16th-place Result After Late-Race Spin at Road America

“We can finally go race now that the road course portion of the season is over. I definitely felt like Road America was our best road course of the three we have run this year. If we hadn’t been wrecked there at the end of the race, I thought we would have come home with a top-10 finish. This M-D Building Products/Menards team did a great job all weekend long. I can’t thank all of my RCR teammates enough for helping me out through this road course streak that we’ve had here in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, I think it showed for sure there at the end. Congrats to Michael and Brendan for their great runs today. Wish we had a clean car to go after it there at the end, but all-in-all a good day for the M-D Building Products/Menards team.

– Brandon Jones

Brendan Gaughan Continues Momentum with Second-Place Finish at Road America

“I love this track. I’ve been saying it all along. Whether it was wet or dry, I didn’t care either way. I love this track. Our South Point Chevrolet was absolutely unbelievable in the braking zones today. What Richard Childress Racing does with our brake systems is absolutely amazing. I could out-brake anyone in the field. Man, I wanted to win this race so bad. I love Michael McDowell. I know it is RCR going for three wins in a row here at Road America, but I wanted to win this thing. This track means so much to me. I gave it all I could. I gave it one last-ditch effort in Turn 14 and just couldn’t keep the power down on the straightaway and had to come home second. Way to go RCR, finishing first and second, and getting three wins in a row here at Road America. We like taking this trophy home.”

MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY (August 27, 2016) – A new Formula 4 United States Powered by Honda victor emerged Saturday as James Goughary Jr. of Jupiter, Florida, won Race 1 at New Jersey Motorsports Park after lap 1 commotion tangled most of the young field.

Jackie Ding of Shenzen, China, was in position two when his rear swung out from behind him, spinning him in the middle of the track’s apex. As most of the field tried to dodge contact by going wide of the incident, Goughary used his 30 years of racing experience to his advantage by taking the inside of the turn to avoid traffic and contact. ALTON, Va. (Aug. 27, 2016) – Jan Magnussen put the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R on pole position Saturday for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR. The Corvette Racing stalwart set a lap of 1:41.557 (115.9 mph) to lead the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class and the overall standings on the GT-only weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

Tommy Milner, in the GTLM championship-leading No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R, gave Corvette Racing a 1-2 qualifying effort with a lap of 1:41.568 (115.9 mph).

The two-hour, 40-minute Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 28. It will air live on FOX Sports 1 starting at 1:30 p.m. ET with IMSA Radio coverage and Chevrolet on-board cameras available on IMSA.com.

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FASTEST OVERALL IN SATURDAY PRACTICE: “I’m so happy. It’s an overall pole so that is even better! The team has done a fantastic job with our Corvette C7.R. It’s so close out there. I knew I needed every single hundredth (of a second) to beat the No. 4 Corvette! It’s a fantastic effort for everyone at Corvette Racing. We really pulled things together after a great test earlier this week and were able to use some of that here. We can’t wait for tomorrow. Hopefully the two Corvettes can have a great race together from the front.
HAS THE NEW SURFACE CHANGED HOW THE CAR DRIVES SIGNIFICANTLY? “I’ve always been a huge fan of VIR. “It’s a fantastic place to drive; you spend lots of time down through the Esses and the new surface makes it a great experience. I can’t remember when a GT car went around here with this much grip. It feels like a whole different category.”
DOES THE HEAT HELP YOUR CAR? “The tarmac has a lot more grip than last year. We like it a lot. We thought the track would be a lot slower this afternoon but it wasn’t by much if at all.”

And it’s awfully confusing for the spotters to send us out as cars are finishing their laps. The two cars in front of him and the one car behind him were finishing and he clearly was not.
