KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 4 DITECH CHEVROLET SS – Race Winner
HOW DID YOU GET BY THE NO. 20 OF MATT KENSETH?
‘I just want to thank all our sponsors and everyone at the shop who works on the Stewart-Haas Racing cars. Man, that worked out really good. The car was pretty good on the restarts. Once we got clean air there at the end, it wound up being really good up front. I’m just really proud of our team. They did a great job.”

DID VOICING YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE PREVIOUS RESTARTS MOTIVATE YOU AT THE END TO GET THAT BEST ONE?
“We talk about that stuff all the time. For me, it was just a smooth restart. I just didn’t want to spin the tires. I don’t know what happened to him, or if I just timed it right. It worked out good when we got to Turn 1.”

FROM HAVING A BAD DAY LAST WEEK, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO COME TO VICTORY LANE HERE?
“Yeah, that was a game of inches last week. We wound up getting a lap down there and I had a good car. I had a fifth of sixth place car, and just wound up not being where we needed to be. But all in all, we wound up where we should have been last year, this year.”

YEAH, YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO DO DOVER AND WIN THIS TIME. WHAT DOES THAT FEEL LIKE?
“Oh, it’s definitely going to be nice. One of our main goals this year was to not stretch ourselves out so bad. I feel like the performance of the car and the things that we’re doing are good enough to be competitive, and we just need to not make mistakes and go from there.”

SO, HOW IS THE HEART RIGHT NOW?
“I’m just excited. I was content with where we were. But, once you get up there in the front like that, you’ve got to take a chance to try to win.”

Two-time St. Louis winner Jeg Coughlin Jr. stumbles in first round

Two-time St. Louis winner Jeg Coughlin Jr. stumbles in first round
ST. LOUIS (Sept. 25) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. won the Pro Stock race here in 2002 and 2009, but he couldn’t cure his seven-year itch at the 2016 AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals on Sunday at Gateway Motorsports Park.

Coughlin fell to Chris McGaha in a winnable first-round race Sunday with the Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart. Neither driver was very good on the Christmas Tree, but McGaha was a tick better on the racetrack: 6.632 seconds at 208.46 mph to 6.667 at 206.70 mph. Those passes came after McGaha had a .054-second reaction time, edging Coughlin’s .065 light. Continue reading Two-time St. Louis winner Jeg Coughlin Jr. stumbles in first round

Five-time champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. building momentum in Pro Stock

Five-time champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. building momentum in Pro Stock
ST. LOUIS (Sept. 24) — Progress in the NHRA Pro Stock class can be painstakingly slow, so when it is made, it is relished.

Five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. is relishing the progress made by his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart team. He qualified No. 10 for the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals on Saturday at Gateway Motorsports Park as his Elite Motorsports team continued to make gains with its Mopar program.

“We’ve been building a little bit of momentum quietly with our Magneti Marelli Dodge, and it feels good to make a little bit of an impact,” Coughlin said. “(Friday) night, we were probably as close as we have been in a while to the No. 1 car when we ran the .64.” Continue reading Five-time champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. building momentum in Pro Stock

Red Horse Racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams headed to Loudon, New Hampshire for the first race of the inaugural Chase for the NCWTS Championship. On Friday, during two practice sessions on the one-mile oval, Timothy Peters was 13th-fastest in the first and seventh-fastest on the board in final practice in the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra, while Brett Moffitt was 11th and eighth fastest in the No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra. In three rounds of knockout group qualifying on Saturday morning, Peters earned the second starting spot, while Moffitt began the 175-lap race in sixth place. Peters would fight the balance on his Tundra all day, but salvage a fifth-place finish, while Moffitt would earn an eighth-place result.

Pro Stock champion Erica Enders rebounds to qualify No. 11 in St. Louis

Pro Stock champion Erica Enders rebounds to qualify No. 11 in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS (Sept. 24) — There’s no quit in Erica Enders and her Elite Motorsports/Mopar Dodge team.

Despite missing the race in Charlotte last week, the two-time Pro Stock champions battled back to qualify No. 11 for the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals on Saturday at Gateway Motorsports Park.

“They are amazing,” Enders said. “They work really hard. It’s frustrating and disheartening to see how hard they work and not have it translate to the scoreboard. At this point, this year is a letdown and we will just focus on getting our ducks in a row for 2017.

“It’s unfortunate to follow up back-to-back championships with the performance we have had this year, but you know, it goes in cycles and that’s part of it. This sport will humble you in a heartbeat, and I’ve learned that the hard way many times, but having said all of that, I’ve been through a lot worse than this, so we’ll be fine.”

Enders’ best lap this weekend was 6.663 seconds at 207.08 mph, and she made four decent
passes in qualifying here after a myriad of issues forced a DNQ in Charlotte last weekend.

“The struggle continues with our Elite Motorsports Dodge Dart, but all we can do is continue to pick away at it and work on it,” Enders said. “Hopefully we’ll turn a corner at some point, but until that happens, the results are the results.”

Enders will face No. 6 qualifier Jason Line in the first round Sunday. Line’s best run of the weekend was 6.611 seconds at 209.43 mph.

Enders is a two-time St. Louis winner who enjoys spending time with the Gateway fans.

“I always enjoy racing in St. Louis,” Enders said. “I have a lot of great memories here from the time I was racing Super Comp and Super Gas, so it’s definitely fun to come back here.”

Pro Stock eliminations start at noon, Sunday, and will air live from 1 to 4 p.m. on FOX Sports 1. (All times listed in CT).

Richard Childress Racing–Kentucky Speedway

Sam Hornish Jr. Overcomes Adversity after a Late-Race Incident to Finish Fourth at Kentucky Speedway

“We started the race too loose and used the first couple of pit stops to correct the handling on the No. 2 Rheem Chevrolet. We were racing the (No.) 19 and Daniel (Suarez) drove in a little too deep and forced us up the track and into the wall. With these tires being as hard as they are, as soon as someone gets into the back of you, it’s really hard to get the correction down and get back going. We fixed up the damage and kept digging to get ourselves back into it. I thought we were going to have a chance to win it there at the end. We restarted fifth and was second with three laps to go, but out of nowhere the car got really tight and we ended up fourth. I think getting tight at the end was because of the rear end damage we had. All-in-all I’m really proud of all these guys that work on this team. I’m thankful to Richard Childress and everyone at RCR for giving me this opportunity.”

Late-Race Wreck Collects Dillon after Strong Performance at Kentucky Speedway

“This is obviously not what we wanted tonight especially after how well we started the race, leading a bunch of laps and showing a lot of speed. I thought our WESCO Chevy was capable of winning tonight but we got collected in that wreck with 12 to go. Things like that happen, especially when you’re racing for a win. It makes it even more difficult when there is only one groove to race and everyone is vying for that space. We’ll just do what we’ve done all season and keep moving forward. We’ll go to Dover and try to win the race and advance to the next round of The Chase. We were also racing tonight with some heavy hearts after hearing that one of RCR’s long time employees, Johnny Siler passed away today. He was such a big part of RCR’s success and we’ll miss him greatly.”

– Ty Dillon

Brandon Jones Caught Up In Wreck with Non-Chase Drivers at Kentucky Speedway

“I was definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time when the No. 88 and the No. 42 got together. It stinks because looking at the end of the race and how other Chase drivers had trouble at the end, this could have been a race we could have capitalized on. The NIBCO / Menards Chevrolet was a top-five car, if not a car that could have contended for the win. I hate we were caught up in that wreck. The guys on pit road had really good stops again tonight and got us track position early in the race. The entire crew did a great job making repairs and getting us back on the track quickly. We lucked out a bit when a couple of other guys had issues late in the race and we were able to gain spots on them. I will talk to crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. and see how this changes our approach to next week’s race at Dover, but we’ll just try to run in the top five there and maybe contend for the win.”

– Brandon Jones

Brendan Gaughan Continues Success at Kentucky Speedway with Sixth-Place Finish

“We had a strong South Point Chevrolet tonight. The definition of tonight was a war. Shane Wilson (crew chief) and the guys are the definition of perseverance. There is no quit in this team, we passed a ton of cars tonight battling from the back to the front. The best thing about Shane and I is that when things are out of control, or not, we don’t panic. We fix what we can and move forward. We always keep fighting to the end. The guys fought so hard, they had to jump over the wall twice to fix damage. I wanted a top five tonight, but to come away third among the Chase drivers, even with all of the challenges, it’s a win. It’s a heck of a start to the Chase. It’s a narrow groove here, which made for an exciting event. It’s still Kentucky and I love this place. We will take this momentum and move on to Dover.”

ST. LOUIS (Sept. 24) — JEGS.com driver Troy Coughlin Sr. scored an important victory in the first round of the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Series race presented by Precision Turbo & Engine at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals on Saturday at Gateway Motorsports Park.

CHEVROLET STRONG IN FINAL PRACTICE AT NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY

LOUDON, N.H. – (September 24, 2016) – Team Chevy had two solid final practice sessions on Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS). Chase contender, Kyle Larson, piloting the No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS, led both practice sessions as the sun blanketed the track for the first time during the weekend. In the final session before tomorrow’s Bad Boy Off Road 300 at the ‘Magic Mile’, Team Chevy occupied six of the top 12 spots. Chevrolet is on a quest for the brands 19th victory at NHMS and their eighth victory of the 2016 season.

FINAL PRACTICE QUOTES:
KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – Fastest in Final Practice
“I felt good about it in race trim. Our short run speed is really good. I fall off a little bit too much compared to other people, but I’m sure there are some things I could do differently to help that out. Our car though this last practice was really good, I thought. We made some big improvements from the first practice. First practice I was extremely loose on entry. With this last one I felt better with that and drive off stayed good. I just get a little bit too tight past the middle of the corner. We’ve got to work on that a little bit.”

ON THE WEATHER CHANGES FROM YESTERDAY TO TODAY:
“Well it’s been so cool, I don’t think it’s really affected much. Even though the sun has been out a little bit more today than yesterday and tomorrow is going to be cooler yet. So that will probably help everybody’s race cars a little bit. Hopefully, it will help ours more than others and we can have a good race.”

September 24, 2016

Ryan Blaney and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team came up a little short in Friday’s Sprint Cup qualifying session at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but Blaney and the team still feel they’ll have plenty of speed by the time the green flag drops to begin Sunday’s 300-mile race.

Blaney made it through the first of three rounds of knock-out qualifying, but he came up a bit shy of advancing to the final round and will start 16th on Sunday. Continue reading Blaney Qualifies 16th At New Hampshire; Looking For More Speed For Sunday

TEAM SUMMIT RACING GOES FOR WIN 16 IN QUEST FOR CHAMPIONSHIP

TEAM SUMMIT RACING GOES FOR WIN 16 IN QUEST FOR CHAMPIONSHIP

St. Louis, MO (September 21, 2016) – Team Summit Racing Pro Stock team heads to the AAA NHRA Midwest Nationals this weekend with a comfortable points lead. Drivers Jason Line and Greg Anderson want to keep it that way as they compete for the NHRA Mello Yello Championship.

After winning the first race of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship in Charlotte on Sunday, Line and Anderson, not taking anything for granted, were back at the track testing their Chevrolet Camaros on Monday

“We have three races in a row and not a lot of time to test. This was a golden opportunity since we live here. It’s close, convenient and we won’t have a chance after two or three races to get testing in,” Anderson said. “The competition right now is really close. We’re hoping to gain a performance edge going into St. Louis.”

Line has eight wins this season and Anderson has seven. With only five races left, both drivers want to finish strong and win the NHRA Pro Stock Championship.

“We have run well all year and the first part of the season we were faster than the other cars. To not win the championship would certainly hurt,” Line said. “This is a team effort. I want to win and I’ll be happy if Greg or Bo (Butner) wins.”

The AAA NHRA Midwest Nationals is a home event for Springfield, Illinois-based Nitro Funny Car driver Tim Wilkerson. Expect to see a lot of his die-hard fans, known as “Wilk’s Warriors,” at the track this weekend.

“We’re happy to be that close to home and excited to see all our friends and do the best that we can to keep advancing rounds,” Wilkerson said. “But it’s going to be stressful, too. Brian Stewart’s running, and my son Daniel will be working on his car. Dick Levi is going to bring all his closest friends. We want to win for all of our fans.”

ROBERT HIGHT LOOKING TO ST. LOUIS FOR CHAMPIONSHIP BUMP

ST LOUIS (September 21, 2016) — In 2009 Robert Hight used a race win at the Countdown opening race in Charlotte to propel him to his first NHRA Funny Car championship. The 2005 NHRA Auto Club Road to the Future Rookie of the Year raced from the No. 10 spot to the championship on the strength of that win as well as two other wins over the final six races. That year Hight followed up his Carolina Nationals win with a first round defeat at the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals. Last weekend Hight raced to the quarterfinals but the 37-time winner is not worried about slipping out of the Countdown conversation.

“I think if you can average semifinal finishes throughout the Countdown you should be in a position to have a shot at the championship when we roll into Pomona for the Auto Club Finals. Three of the last five Countdown races are sponsored by the Auto Club so I know I will see a lot of friendly faces and support. This weekend in St. Louis is a race I have won before and feel good about getting to. We tested on Monday (in Charlotte) and made some really quick runs in the heat and cooler conditions,” said Hight. Continue reading John Force Racing–St. Louis Advance
