round of eliminations with low ET of the session
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 10) — Everything finally seems to be falling into place for two-time Pro Mod world champion Troy Coughlin as the 10-time class winner successfully rode his top qualifying effort into a Round 1 victory Saturday evening at the 48th annual NHRA Summernationals.

Racing in the J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, Coughlin used his stout 5.772 at 257.53 mph from Friday to easily hold on to the top qualifying spot heading into eliminations, which started Saturday evening. He then nearly matched his qualifying numbers in a convincing win over Jonathan Gray, whom he beat by 27 feet. ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 10, 2017) – What a weekend it has been for the Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Dodge Dart team so far at the 48th annual NHRA Summernationals. 2012 Pro Stock World Champion drove to his highest qualifying position of the season after only participating in three out of four sessions.

On Friday, Johnson clocked in with an honorable 6.640-second pass at 210.54 mph. Knowing they had more in it, the Adam Hornberger-led team finessed the tune-up and improved eight thousandths of a second in the evening session when he crossed the finish line with an impressive 6.567, 210.90. FORT WORTH, Texas (June 9, 2017) – Charlie Kimball drove to the first pole position in his Verizon IndyCar Series career Friday at the Texas Motor Speedway, leading a Honda sweep of the top eight starting positions in qualifying for Saturday night’s Rainguard Water Sealers 600.

Kimball set one- and two-lap INDYCAR qualifying records at the 1.5-mile oval to secure the pole over his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate and championship points leader, Scott Dixon, who will start second. “Obviously just having a good balance in all three corners. Probably one of the biggest keys is no matter how good you get through those corners, you have to have the power to pull it down the straightaway. And it seems like at some point some pit strategy and some fuel savings and a little bit of luck has to come your way; but nevertheless, I’ve always enjoyed this race track. I enjoy the area; especially now with Kalahari being built just up the street. TALK ABOUT THE EMOTIONS OF WINNING THE RAIN-PLAGUED RACE AT POCONO LAST YEAR
“Yeah, we needed a jon boat to get back to the hauler afterwards. The garage was about a foot deep (with water). Luckily, I guess the rain all fell in between being in the Media Center and getting done. It was a pretty awesome deal getting that win and having everything play out the way it did. It was a big moment for us. It got us heading toward the Chase for last season and got us into the All-Star race this year to be able to participate there. So, a lot of great things came from it. Everybody keeps asking me how excited I am to get back to Pocono and the probably is it’s not one of the places where we’re as fast as some others, but it is a unique race track. I do love coming here. It’s tough. And it’s hard trying to find just a little bit of speed. The straightaways are so long that one little mistake leads to three or four-tenths at the end of the straightaway. Sol we’ve got tot work hard to be consistent and get the balance rolling good. “I guess to start the weekend we had a pretty good GEICO Chevy unloading. We kind of kept working on it and chipping away at it getting it to where we thought, just mainly focusing on where I could drive the car hard through the race. We didn’t qualify all that well. Qualifying has probably been our toughest challenge all year just making sure we get good track position. We start anywhere from 20th to 28th every week. (June 7) – That Courtney Force was able to walk away from her Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car after a scary engine explosion during qualifying at the New England Nationals last weekend at New England Dragway was a testimony to her John Force Racing car – and the Simpson Performance Products she utilizes.
