Cruz Pedregon Houston Preview

NHRA® Team Report
NHRA Spring Nationals – Houston
Pre-Race Report

Cruz Pedregon and team will debut a new Snap-on Toyota chassis in Houston that will run full-time after this weekend. “It’s a terrific opportunity for us to have a fresh car on a track that’s been good to us in the past,” Pedregon says. “We always enjoy the races here in Texas. Since we’ve won here at Royal Purple three times before, the plan is to make it a nice even four wins.”

Crew Chief Aaron Brooks says, “We made a couple of test runs with the new chassis before we left Las Vegas, and we like what we were able to accomplish. We’re looking forward to great results this weekend.”

Cruz spent some time in Houston visiting Snap-on franchise customers and doing media interviews before Friday’s qualifying rounds.

On the side of Cruz’s car this week –
If you’ll check the side of Cruz’s car this week, you’ll see the name of local Snap-on Nitro Franchisee Ryan Kasper. Ryan has had his Snap-on franchise business since 1995 and says his interest started with a borrowed wrench. He needed something that would take a bolt off his four-wheeler, and his neighbor loaned him a Snap-on tool. Ryan also had two great uncles who sold Snap-on products, so the brand has long been a part of his family tree. He says he enjoys coming to the track and that “there’s nothing like the smell of nitro in the stands.”

It bounced up on the right front and luckily sat back down.” Continue reading Giovanni Scelzi Caps Great Weekend With Podium Finish at Stockton Dirt Track

Menard Hangs On For A 13th-Place Finish At Bristol

April 16, 2018

When rains brought the cars to a halt on Sunday afternoon at Bristol Motor Speedway, Paul Menard and his No. 21 Menards/Dutch Boy Ford were running third and poised for a great finish after starting the race a season-best seventh.

When racing resumed on Monday, Menard continued to race inside the top 10 until around Lap 350 of 500, when the handling inexplicably got a little off on the Menards/Dutch Boy Fusion.

Team co-owner Eddie Wood said that from that point on, Menard, who had already missed several cars that spun ahead of him, did some of his best driving of the day. Continue reading Menard Hangs On For A 13th-Place Finish At Bristol

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 Realtree Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Team Show Speed at Bristol Motor Speedway

“I know we were better than a 15th-place finish, but the scoreboard doesn’t show it today. We stayed out to try and save an extra set of tires and it ended up being a long run, so we corded our left front tire and went a lap down. You just can never predict when a long run will happen at Bristol Motor Speedway. There were not enough laps after that to earn our lap back. It’s a shame because the No. 3 Realtree Camaro ZL1 was fast today. We ran a lot of the race in the top-five and posted some of the fastest times during the race. We were fast on restarts, and I’m proud of that. I hope all fans enjoyed seeing the new Realtree fishing pattern on the track.”

“Yeah, they were definitely good early in the stint. But that was absolutely driving just as hard as I could go and I am sure he was driving has hard as he could go. I am sure he was using push to pass and the Hondas are just a little bit better out of the hairpin. On the restarts, I couldn’t get close. I think we had better top end but their drive out of the hairpins was really good. Rossi, Honda Dominate Long Beach Qualifying
• Alexander Rossi clears the field in knockout qualifying
• Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal also advance to final qualifying round
• Seven Honda drivers to start from top-10 positions

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 14, 2018) – Alexander Rossi took his Andretti Autosport Honda to the pole today in qualifying for Sunday’s Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, leading both the opening and final rounds of “knockout” IndyCar Series qualifying. In the third and last round, Rossi’s time of 1 minute, 06.5528 seconds was 0.3526 seconds quicker than nearest rival Will Power, and a larger gap than that which covered the entire remaining Fast Six final qualifiers.

Scott Dixon, the 2015 Long Beach winner, and Graham Rahal also advanced to final round qualifying for Honda. Another four Honda drivers advanced as far as the second qualifying round, including Ryan Hunter-Reay, defending race winner James Hinchcliffe, impressive rookie Robert Wickens and St. Petersburg race winner Sebasties Bourdais.

In all, seven Honda drivers will start from the top-10 grid positions in Sunday’s third round of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series. The 85-lap race starts at 4 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on the NBC Sports Network.

Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport Honda) pole qualifier, first pole of 2018 and second career IndyCar Series pole: “The whole Andretti Autosport NAPA team has done such a great job, and Honda has continued their development and their push in the off-season, so it’s a huge result for us, and I think that we’ve been – we were close in St. Pete, had we not had the penalty on the qualifying. So, to get the pole here was good, a good start for tomorrow. But this sport has a way of humbling you pretty quick, so we have to execute against tomorrow, and hopefully we can get that redemption we’re talking about.”
