TEAM CHEVY NOTES & QUOTES:

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 SUNENERGY 1 CAMARO ZL1 – Qualified 3rd
A STRONG RUN. SEEMS LIKE IT WAS LOST JUST IN THAT LAST CORNER?
“Yeah, maybe. I don’t know. I’m not sure. It’s very frustrating. I feel like I had a real opportunity to grab a pole today. I felt like I had a good lap going and then I got a little loose out of Turn 11 and thought I could stay in it and just thought I didn’t have any more room. It was pretty close. That sucks. I just hate to be that close. We haven’t been qualifying real good. It would have been nice to have gotten one today.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Watkins Glen–Qualifying Notes →

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 KROGER CLICKLIST CAMARO ZL1 met with media and discussed road course racing as a whole, the recent race at Sonoma, racing in the Xfinity Series this weekend, his expectations at The Glen, and more. Full Transcript:

EVERYBODY IS ANALYZING YOU AND WHAT IT’S GOING TO TAKE FOR YOU TO WIN THIS WEEKEND. DO YOU GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO IT AND JUST CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOU NEED TO DO YOURSELF?
“In the end, I can just do my best. I’ve come here and put a lot of pressure on myself. We all know what the ultimate goal is when we show up here. I think over the past couple of years it’s gotten a little bit more difficult. I think the field is spread out more. This year, we’ve seen the three fastest guys are usually the three fastest guys every weekend. It doesn’t matter what track we go to, unfortunately they’re good everywhere. I think there’s more of a difference I can make here as a driver, but I don’t see why it’s not going to be those three again that are going to be the fastest cars. As a whole, in the series, we’ve got to catch up to them. So, I just come here and do my best and try to get everything I can out of it. And whatever that holds, I think sometimes people look at it like if we don’t win, it’s a full disappointment of the weekend, but we come here and we run Top 5 all weekend and you get a Top 5 finish, that’s still tough to do and that’s still a good day. So, if there’s a chance to win, we’ll take the chance. And if not, we’ll just get the best that we can and for me, just get everything I can out of the weekend. And if I do that, I can be satisfied with it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Watkins Glen–AJ Allmendinger →

HOW IS YOUR FOOT AND YOUR CHEEK? NASCAR MADE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE FOOT BOX AFTER KYLE BUSCH’S ACCIDENT IN 2015. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA IF THOSE IMPROVEMENTS HELPED YOU WALK AWAY?
“I think my left foot is broken and my cheek will never be repaired (laughter). I’m all good. I don’t know. I didn’t know they made those improvements since Kyle’s deal. But, I banged it off the inside of my left foot, I banged it off the gas pedal, and I had a knot the size of a nickel. I’ve had that before a couple of times and it would be fine the next day. It was lingering for a day and a half after that. I wore shoes for the first time yesterday. I was just being lazy and wearing flip-flops. I put on shoes and I was like oh, damn, that still hurts a little bit. But, I’m all good now. So we’re all good and healed-up. Ready to go do it again. BRITTANY FORCE READY TO PEAK JUST IN TIME FOR NHRA COUNTDOWN TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP

BRITTANY FORCE READY TO PEAK JUST IN TIME FOR NHRA
COUNTDOWN TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP
KENT, Wash. (Aug. 01, 2018) — Her reign as Top Fuel world champion has been fraught with frustration but when they raise the curtain on this year’s Countdown to the Championship, no one expects anything but excellence from Brittany Force and the PEAK Coolant and Motor Oil Monster Energy race team.

A graduate of Cal State-Fullerton, Force rolls into Pacific Raceways for this week’s 31st annual CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals in eighth place in Top Fuel points, nowhere near where she and crew chief Brian Husen and tuning consultant Alan Johnson expected themselves to be with just three races remaining before the points are adjusted for the Countdown. COURTNEY FORCE TRYING TO REPRISE EARLIER SUCCESSES AT
PACIFIC RACEWAYS
KENT, Wash. (Aug. 01, 2018) — Funny Car points leader Courtney Force resumes her Jekyll-and-Hyde relationship with Pacific Raceways this week when she drives the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro SS in pursuit of the Funny Car championship at the 31st annual CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals, the final event in the arduous Western Swing.

“It’s a track we’ve won on in the past,” said the 12-time Mello Yello tour winner, “so coming from a decent weekend at Sonoma where we qualified No. 1 (for the 10th time in 15 races) but didn’t have much luck on race day, we’re really hoping to be able to go some rounds at Seattle and finish out the Swing on a positive note.”

Although she has won at Pacific Raceways in both the Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car categories, she has had to deal with some adversity, too. Continue reading COURTNEY FORCE TRYING TO REPRISE EARLIER SUCCESSES AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS →

JOHN FORCE STILL VIABLE CONTENDER IN BATTLE FOR NHRA FUNNY CAR TITLE

JOHN FORCE STILL VIABLE CONTENDER IN BATTLE FOR NHRA FUNNY CAR TITLE
KENT, Wash. (Aug.1, 2018) — John Force is participating this week in his 751st NHRA event. That’s 750 plus one. He’s making his 32nd appearance at Pacific Raceways, where he’s won a record eight times in the CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals, and yet the 16-time champion, Hall of Fame inductee and father of Mello Yello tour sensations Brittany and Courtney Force, isn’t quite ready to call it a career.

In fact, coming off a win to start the Western Swing two weeks ago at Denver and following a semifinal finish last week at Sonoma, Calif., the patriarch of drag racing’s first family, is headed toward the Countdown with momentum and a renewed belief in himself and the team that supports his PEAK Coolant and Motor Oil Chevrolet Camaro.

Don’t be mistaken, Force isn’t battling for a berth in the Countdown simply to secure his 34th consecutive Top 10 finish. He’s not in it for a participation trophy. The fact is, he still believes he’s got another championship in him. Continue reading JOHN FORCE STILL VIABLE CONTENDER IN BATTLE FOR NHRA FUNNY CAR TITLE →

Menard’s Cup Career Began At The Glen

August 1, 2018

This weekend, Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Sylvania team return to Watkins Glen International, where in 2003 Menard made his debut in the series now known as Monster Energy Cup.

Menard, then age 22, beat out four other drivers to earn the 43rd starting spot, and in the race, he ran all 90 laps and finished 29th driving a car owned by Andy Petree.

“It was pretty intimidating, running my first Cup race and it being on a road course,” Menard said. “I think we were pretty good in practice, somewhere in 20s. We didn’t qualify as well as we practiced, but we were able to move forward during the race.” Continue reading Menard’s Cup Career Began At The Glen →

KENT, Wash. (Aug, 01, 2018) — Coming off an impressive win last week at Sonoma, Calif., and entering this week’s 31st annual CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals as the defending champion at Pacific Raceways, Robert Hight is looking more and more like a man capable of becoming the first in 15 years to win back-to-back Mello Yello Funny Car titles.

After being caught off guard by NHRA’s early-season decision to change the way it prepares the racing surface at its national event tracks, crew chiefs Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham have adjusted their program and settled into a new comfort zone and the 48-year-old Hight couldn’t be more amped up.
