Menard Ready To Run For Another Pole At Chicagoland

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/FVP Batteries/NRG Energy team showed up with good speed last year at Chicagoland Speedway and earned Menard the pole, the 119th for his Wood Brothers team.

But the notes from that qualifying session won’t be of much use for the team this year in time trials for the Camping World 400. Since that time, NASCAR has adopted a lower horsepower/higher downforce handling package, and the series has scrapped the three-round knockout qualifying format used last year and gone back to a one-car-at-a-time qualifying session. While the number of races wasn’t as high as anticipated, Scelzi made the most of his action by finishing second at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio, on June 16 and eighth last Saturday at Wayne County Speedway.

Dakota Dickerson dominates F3 Americas midseason event, leaves with championship lead

WAMPUM, PENNSYLVANIA (June 24, 2019) – It was a dream weekend for Dakota Dickerson of San Diego in F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda. During the midseason event at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, the Global Racing Group pilot dominated the triple-round of racing, finishing the weekend with three wins, two track records, three pole-positions and the fastest time in each of the three race sessions.

Rachel Meyer Takes All on The Bayou

Rachel Meyer landed her second final round of the 2019 season at the Nitro on the Bayou, NHRA Central Regional event held at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, Louisiana. The Randy Meyer Racing Team has previously won this event with driver Megan Meyer in 2017, starting the streak of having a female win the race in the Top Alcohol Dragster category.

Rachel began the weekend from the no. 1 qualifying position, running a 5.30 ET at 272 mph in the final session on Friday night. With only 5 cars entered for the 8-car field, Rachel had a bye run in round one of eliminations, while Megan in the NGK Spark Plugs dragster, who qualified no. 2 with a 5.35 ET, had to face Terry Schmidt. Terry had issues with the car after the burnout, and was pushed off the track, leaving Megan with a bye run as well. Both girls ran a 5.31 ET to move on. Menard Finishes 22nd At Sonoma

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Richmond Ford Mustang had a good run going early in Sunday’s 350-kilometer race on the road course at Sonoma Raceway, but a mid-race spin dealt them a setback they weren’t able to overcome and they wound up 22nd at the finish.

Menard started Sunday’s race, run on the track’s old layout which featured the Carousel turn and an additional half mile in overall length, from 24th place.

He moved up five positions in the opening 12 laps and continued to move up throughout the first 20-lap stage. Between positions gained on the track and others picked up when drivers ahead of him made early pit stops, Menard finished the stage in ninth place, earning two bonus points. NORWALK, Ohio (June 23) — Troy Coughlin Jr. realized a lifelong dream Sunday by earning his first Top Alcohol Dragster NHRA national event victory in his home state of Ohio. Coughlin cruised past Will Smith in the final to cap off a perfect weekend where he parlayed a dominating No. 1 qualifying effort into his seventh national-level Wally.

“This is all a kid from Ohio could ask for,” said Coughlin, who was runner-up at this event one year ago. “Having my wife Brenna, my mom (Michelle Shelly), my dad (Troy Sr.), Pappy (grandfather Jeg Coughlin Sr.), my uncle Jeg (Coughlin), aunt Samantha (Coughlin) and my goddaughter Carly all here, it’s just so special. Austin Dillon and the Dow Coatings Team Show Grit All Weekend At Sonoma Raceway

“It’s been a long weekend in the Dow Coatings Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, but the good news is we learned a lot that we can take back to Welcome and use in preparation for future trips to Sonoma Raceway. We fell behind in practice and just never recovered. During the race, I was just hanging on the best I could but it was difficult because the Dow Coatings Chevrolet was plowing tight. Who knows, maybe if we would have utilized a different strategy we could have gained a few positions at the finish, but the main issue is definitely working on our cars and on my skills as a road course racer. This race is over and we’re focused on Chicagoland Speedway now.”

“I thought we did a great job of making the most of our day here at Sonoma Raceway. We didn’t have track position to start the race, but Luke Lambert did a great job of not worrying about points and trying to get us track position instead. Every time we did it we gained four or five spots. I’m proud of everyone on this No. 8 team and this Poppy Bank Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for sticking with me all weekend. We got better every lap and that’s what our first road race as a group is all about. We’ll regroup and go to Chicagoland Speedway and try to continue to get better.”
