(March 10, 2021) – After a successful test session at Palm Beach International Raceway, 16-time Funny Car world champion John Force and his Peak / BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS are set to make their NHRA Camping World Series debut at the 2021 season opening Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway March 12-14. The Hall of Fame team owner and driver has success on his side as he heads to historic Gainesville Raceway. The 151-time winner has 13 final round appearances with eight victories at the facility and has started race day from the No. 1 spot seven times. At the 2019 Gatornationals Force raced to a semifinal finish. “I always like getting to Gainesville. It’s always a big show. The locals, the fans, it’s just an unbelievable event every year,” Force said. “It means even more this year. This BlueDEF PLATINUM team is ready to get there and I’m ready to get back in the car. I’m ready to be back, to be on the road and really get things started. I’m excited to have Camping World with NHRA and see where this season takes us. I’m hoping we get to the final and start things off with a win.” It had been over a year since Force sat in the seat of his BlueDEF Chevrolet Camaro when he and drivers Robert Hight and Brittany Force began testing in West Palm Beach for the PRO Winter Warm-Up. Fortunately, all of the John Force Racing teams seemed to have started where they left off. Force and the Peak BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevy Camaro team led the Funny Car pack with a 3.860 second pass at 329.02 mph and also had a 3.869 run at 320.20. “It feels good to be back in my car, back in the seat. Testing went well, we were quick and fast and the new guys are figuring it out. I’ve got confidence in my crew chiefs, Danny Hood and Tim Fabrisi, and we’re all just excited to be back racing.” A special note for Force this weekend, when he qualifies for the 16-car field, it will mark his 200th race start in a Chevrolet. “I’ve come a long way with Chevy in my career and in my life,” says Force, who’s NHRA-record 151 Funny Car victories include 20 in a Chevrolet and 53 in other General Motors brands. “My first road car was a ’54 Chevy sedan – six-cylinder and an automatic – and my parents both drove GM products as long as I can remember. Ricky Weiss led the group with an average speed of 125mph around the half-mile track

BRISTOL, TN – March 9, 2021 – Ricky Weiss sat on Bristol Motor Speedway’s pit wall, debriefing with his crew while a thunderous roar echoed around the colosseum-styled facility.

He’d just finished his first few laps around the half-mile track, made famous as a fan-favorite NASCAR track, now covered in dirt again for the first time in 20 years for events like the April 8-10 World of Outlaws Bristol Bash with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models and DIRTcar UMP Modifieds.

When trying to describe what those first few laps were like during Monday’s test session for the World of Outlaws Late Models, the 2019 Rookie of the Year and two-time Series winner could only say, “Wow.”

“It sure is fast,” Weiss said. “It’s pretty cool to be here and to run these speeds.

“I don’t think anybody in their life experiences G-forces like that. Getting to drive in there wide open, I mean, it’s not even a question if it’ll stick. It just ends up turning in the corner, you come around there and do it all over again.”

Seven drivers, including Weiss, attended the five-hour test to help find what the appropriate tire should be and to tune their setups. The Canadian ran the fastest lap of the group with a 15.266 sec. lap at an average speed of 125mph. In comparison, the last time the NASCAR Cup Series qualified at Bristol – on asphalt – Denny Hamlin ran a 14.848 sec. lap with an average speed of 129mph.

Three-time defending champion Brandon Sheppard spent the most time on track, running 156 laps. Fellow Rocket Chassis drivers Boom Briggs and Darrell Lanigan were next in line running 93 and 38 laps, respectively. Weiss ran 30.

“Definitely has a lot of speed,” Sheppard said about the speedway. “Just trying to get this thing dialed in for the race.”

Sheppard stepped out of his #1 machine once throughout the five-hour session – for a bathroom break – while the Rocket1 Racing team fine-tuned the car all night long. Before Weiss showed up, Sheppard was the fastest car early on with his 15.287 sec. lap. From tire changes to spoiler adjustments and shock adjustments, there wasn’t a bolt left unturned on his car as the team was relentless in their search for speed.

While he didn’t end the test session on top, Sheppard still shared his excitement for the upcoming event.

“I think this stage and everything makes it really cool,” Sheppard said about racing at Bristol. “The colosseum-type deal is really awesome. It would mean the world to my team to win it.

“It’s definitely cool for [the Series]. I think the fans will love it and that’s all that matters.”

Chase Junghans was one of the drivers that benefited the most from the test. He struggled with getting his car to turn early on, having to lock his brakes on the exit of Turn 2 each lap in order to stop himself from sliding up into the wall. A few adjustments later he went from running 17-second laps to 16-second laps and then finally breaking into the 15-second bracket. His final run of the night was his fastest with a 15.456 sec. lap, placing him third fastest overall.

“We were way too tight in the beginning,” Junghans said. “We’ve never been to a place like this, so just looking at notes from tracks that we might be able to compare it to and make an educated guess. We got it to steer good and I think we’re pretty good now. We’ll see here in a couple of weeks.”

After getting laps around Bristol, there wasn’t another track the drivers could compare it to. The long Williams Grove Speedway-like straightaways combined with the steep banking of a track like Volunteer Speedway makes the half-mile speedway a unique addition to the schedule.

That’s led to eye-widening laps for viewers and a new challenge for teams as they look to hit upon a perfect setup.

“We’re all trying to make guesses on where our load needs to be on our suspension and stuff like that so we can make the corners,” Junghans said. “Just making educated guesses on trying to get the feel I want and then put it all together when we come back.”

All drivers entered in the Bristol Bash will get a practice session on Thursday, April 8, before the race days on Friday and Saturday, April 9-10. They’ll run a 40-lap Feature with $10,000 on the line Friday and then another 40-lap Feature with $25,000 on the line Saturday.

As much of a “wow” factor the track brought to the drivers, they suspect it will do the same for current and new fans watching.

“I think it’s going to open up a lot of eyes to a lot of people I think,” Junghans said. “I think our sports is really growing and the racing is really good.”

Before racing at Bristol, the World of Outlaws Late Models will run a doubleheader at Cherokee Speedway, Friday and Saturday, March 26-27 – with $30,000 going to the winner on Saturday. Kicking off her first event of the 2021 season, the second race of the year for the Randy Meyer Racing Team, Julie Nataas clinched her first win of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event known as the Baby Gators in Gainesville, Florida this past weekend.

Sliding into the number 4 qualifying spot with a 5.22 ET pass, Julie faced off against Tom Fox Jr for first round of eliminations under the lights Friday night. Tom turned it red leaving the starting line too early, giving Julie the automatic win, a needed one as she lost traction right at the hit.

Because of a rainstorm on Saturday, eliminations were moved to conclude on Sunday which was in favor of the injected-nitro dragsters. Julie got the starting line advantage over Jackie Fricke in the semi-finals and kept the lead for the win running a 5.20 ET to her 5.21 ET. Julie then went face-to-face against Duane Shields, again having the starting line advantage while Shields smoked the tires.

“I was really excited to get back racing after a longer off season! and pre-season testing gave me a boost of confidence, so I was ready to race,” said Julie. “The semi-final against Jackie Fricke was so close and I didn’t see the win light, so I was expecting a close race against Duane Shields in the finals too. He had some problems going down the racetrack and this time I actually saw the win light.”

The Randy Meyer Racing Team will be competing at this weekend’s NHRA GatorNationals held at Gainesville Raceway where both Julie and Rachel Meyer will battle it out for the Wally of the first national event of 2021.

AUSTIN, TX (March 9, 2021) — Last season Funny Car driver Alexis DeJoria reintroduced herself to the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series after a two season layoff. The 2014 U.S. Nationals champion powered through a tumultuous year for the series and developed a new team that began to hit on all cylinders as the 2020 season wound to a close. DeJoria drove her ROKiT Toyota Camry Funny Car to three semifinals over the final four races and qualified in the top five in each of the last five races.

This year after a weekend of testing in Florida with additional test sessions planned leading up to the 52^nd annual NHRA Gatornationals, the five-time NHRA Funny Car winner is confident as she starts her pursuit of her first Funny Car world championship. She will once again have ROKiT as a primary sponsor with the addition of Bandero Premium Tequila.

“This is an exciting time of the year,” said DeJoria. “We had a good couple of days testing in West Palm and we will keep fine tuning our Toyota Camry Funny Car right up until that first qualifying session in Gainesville. Registration Open for 2020 Fall Nationals Makeup, Competitor Info Now Available

LINCOLN, IL – March 9, 2021 – Registration and competitor information for the 2020 DIRTcar Fall Nationals makeup event at Lincoln Speedway, April 8-9, 2021, has now been released.

The DIRTcar Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Pro Modifieds and Sport Compacts will hit the track for a night of open practice on Thursday, April 8, and go racing with a full program on tap, set for Friday, April 9. Late Models will run a 40-lap Feature for a chance at the $3,000 top prize; UMP Modifieds will compete for $1,500 over a 30-lap Feature.

Those who were registered for last year’s event are set and entered for this year’s make-up date. New entries will also be accepted via pre-registration or at the track. All Late Model and UMP Modified drivers who pre-enter by April 5 will receive a discount on their registration fee. All entrants must have a valid 2021 DIRTcar Membership to compete.

Competitors who had purchased two-day pit passes as well as fans who had purchased two-day or Saturday tickets in person or online will be able to use those by presenting them at the event. Grandstand admission is free on Thursday; $25 at the gate on Friday. Kids 11-and-under are free.

The 2021 Fall Nationals will also be held at the quarter-mile dirt track following the regular season for DIRTcar competitors. Practice will be held on Thursday, Sept. 30 with racing on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2. Full details will be announced at a later date.

Cruz Pedregon begins his 30^th year of professional competition with a new team and a completely rebuilt car sporting a new paint scheme as the NHRA readies to fire up the 2021 season at this week’s Gatornationals.

“Our eyes are on the prize of being a top contender this year,” Cruz says. “There’s so much energy that comes with a new season, especially with the good news of Crew Chief John Collins coming on board and the renewal of our contract with long-time primary sponsor Snap-on. Cruz invested in the equipment from Collins’ and his team’s former cars that produced a second place points standing at the end of last season. With Collins as chief and Rip Reynolds as assistant crew chief, Cruz says he can stay focused on driving with the tuning in such capable hands. The team put its off-season work and strategy for the future to the test March 5 – 7 at West Palm Beach International Raceway and will do so again in Gainesville before the Gatornationals.

Batavia, OH (March 8, 2021) – CBS Television Network is scheduled to air five events in 2021, from four different venues. Two events from Lucas Oil Speedway, along with one event from Port Royal Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, and Portsmouth Raceway Park will be showcased, with a potential reach of over 114 million households. 

The Show-Me 100 from Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO will air on the CBS Television Network for the eleventh consecutive year. The Show-Me 100, paying $30,000-to-win will air June 27th. 

For the first time in series history, CBS will also air four other events. The $15,000-to-win Diamond Nationals will air August 28th. The $30,000-to-win Rumble by the River from Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, PA will air October 2nd. November 6th, CBS will present the Knoxville Late Model Nationals paying $40,000-to-win from Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA. SONOMA, Calif. (March 7, 2021) – The Racers Edge Motorsports #93 Acura NSX GT3 Evo launched its 2021 Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS season with a pair of hard-fought Pro/Am podium placements after two races at Sonoma Raceway Saturday and Sunday.

Racers Edge fields a new driver lineup in its Acura NSX GT3 Evo this season, as Taylor Hagler climbs from Touring Car to GT competition, and was joined at the opening weekend by former US F4 champion Dakota Dickerson. Both drivers also are graduates of last year’s inaugural Honda Performance Development GT3 Academy, HPD’s program to assist young drivers advance their sports car racing careers, run in conjunction with Racers Edge Motorsports.

The Florida squad is joined in the Acura stable by Compass Racing, which will campaign an NSX GT3 Evo for the first time with 2021 IMSA GTD champion Matt McMurry and Mexico’s Rodrigo Sales behind the wheel.

Both Acura teams had moments in the sun in Saturday’s opener as Racers Edge ran as second during the first half of the race before settling for third after a tough battle between Dickerson’s NSX and veteran Ryan Dalziel’s Mercedes-AMG.

The battle ended more abruptly for the Compass Racing machine, but was no less promising for the #77 NSX. McMurry emerged from the mandatory driver change with the lead in the Pro/Am class, but his time at the front ended after just six turns as a left-rear wheel came off the car and left him stranded.

The team rebounded well in Sunday’s nightcap, with McMurry and Sales finishing a solid fifth in class despite having to make an extra pit stop early in the race. Dickerson and Hagler came home in third again, just five seconds behind the opening-race winning Porsche 911 GT-R. The team leaves the opening weekend second in the provisional Pro/Am points lead on the strength of the double podium finishes.

The 2021 season finally took a positive turn for Matt DiBenedetto and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team, and they were able to leave Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a 16^th-place finish.

DiBenedetto and his No. 21 Mustang put on a display of speed early in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 as he drove from his 30^th starting position to ninth place in the first 30 laps of the 267-lap race.

He continued to maintain his spot among the top 10 until the end of the first 80-lap Stage, where he finished eighth and collected three Stage points, his first of the 2021 season.

In Stage Two, he continued his climb forward and was in third place by Lap 91. 

An attempt to run long in the second Stage was quickly determined to be not worth the risks, and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane crew called DiBenedetto to the pits for a green-flag stop. When the pit stops cycled through, he was in 12^th place and finished Stage Two in that position.

In the final 100 laps of the race, DiBenedetto was among the top 10 for the majority of the laps, and was running ninth when he headed to pit road with just over 40 laps left to run.
 
As the Motorcraft crew serviced the No. 21 Mustang, an air gun failed just as the left-front tire was about to be changed.

Crew chief Greg Erwin elected to send DiBenedetto back on the track with three fresh Goodyear tires and one with 50 laps of wear on it rather than lose time – and positions – getting a replacement gun to change the tire.

The conventional wisdom is that a racing tire won’t last for 90 laps at speed at Las Vegas, but DiBenedetto nursed his well-worn tire to the finish, losing only a handful of positions during that long green-flag run.

His 16^th-place finish was his best of 2021, and offered encouragement that the team has the speed to compete for wins and top-10s throughout the remainder of the schedule.

“We had good speed, about a seventh-place car,” DiBenedetto said. “We were solid all day. We had an air gun break, which was something out of our control, nobody’s fault.”

Eddie Wood said that overall he was happy with his team’s day at the races.

“I’ll take it,” he said. “I think we’ll be all right going forward. If we can run that good at Vegas, we can run good at places like Texas and other intermediate tracks too.

“And I want to hand it to Goodyear. That was a job well done to build a tire that would run 90 laps and still be running respectable lap times in the last few laps.”

DiBenedetto and the Wood Brothers team now head to Phoenix Raceway for next Sunday’s 312-mile, 500-kilometer Phoenix 500.

SONOMA, Calif. (March 7, 2021) – The HPD Honda Civic Type Rs started the 2021 TC America Presented by Skip Barber Racing School season in grand style this weekend, sweeping Saturday and Sunday races at Sonoma Raceway.

Eric Powell and Kevin Boehm each scored their first wins of the season in the TC class, with Powell using a last-lap pass in Saturday’s opener to take the victory while Boehm ran away from the field to win Sunday’s event by more than seven seconds.

Powell started from the pole and paced the first half of Saturday’s race, but a late-race caution forced a restart that allowed Boehm to take the lead with less than five minutes left in the race. The handling of Powell’s Civic Type R came into play on the last lap however as he used a crossover move to slip inside of Boehm in Turn Two and take the victory, leaving Boehm to settle for third.

Powell was not as fortunate on Sunday as contact with Toby Grahovec resulted in a spin which gave Boehm a lead that he would never relinquish. The 2020 TCA champion, Boehm quickly expanded his lead on the restart after the spin and was never threatened in winning just his second TC class start. Powell recovered from his trouble and battled back for a fourth-place finish.

Lindsay Brewer picked a pair of top-10 results on opening weekend including a sixth-place run in Sunday’s nightcap. Victor Gonzalez returned in his VGMC Racing Type R after a strong 2020 season, but had contact while battling for a podium finish on Saturday and was unable to compete on Sunday.

Five Honda Civic Si drivers competed in the TCA season openers, which ran simultaneously with the TC cars, paced by fifth-place finishes from Carter Fartuch on Saturday and Jose Blanco on Sunday.

PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 07, 2021) – The John Force Racing team wrapped three days of testing at the PRO Winter Warm-Up at Palm Beach International Raceway with top marks across the board. Brittany Force, who swapped between her Monster Energy and Flav-R-Pac paint schemes, led the Top Fuel dragsters while her legendary father John Force led the Funny Car field in his Peak BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevy Camaro with Robert Hight just behind him in the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevy Camaro. After losing half a day to inclement weather on Saturday afternoon, Brittany Force and her David Grubnic and Mac Savage led team were the first nitro car on the track on Sunday. On her only full pass of the test session, Force handled her dragster to an impressive 3.679-second pass at 331.04 mph, landing her at the top of both the speed and low elapsed time list. “It’s been a year since we’ve been out here and it feels awesome to be back in the car, back with my Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team, back with the fans and all of John Force Racing as a whole. Our team rolled right back into things in our first pass,” said Force. “We made nine passes in total and I feel like we’re pretty close to where we left off over a year ago. Grubnic is happy, Savage is happy, I feel good in the car and the whole team is pumped to go to Gainesville. I’m ready to get there and we’ll be coming out swinging right out of the gate looking for our first win at the first race of the season.” John Force and the Peak BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevy Camaro led the Funny Car pack with a 3.860 second pass at 329.02 mph on Sunday. The 151-time national event winner had previously ran 3.869 on Saturday.  “Testing has been good. Our teams, the new guys, the crew chiefs, all the drivers, things went well. You know we were gone a year but it sure don’t look like it,” said Force. “It feels good to be back in my car, back in the seat. BlueDEF PLATINUM looks good on the side and it’s comfortable, it’s home. We had a couple good runs and we were low ET, so was Brittany with Monster Energy and Flav-R-Pac and Robert ran well with Auto Club. We’ll be ready for next weekend, ready to get the NHRA Camping World Series season started.” Robert Hight took advantage of three test runs before laying down a 3.866-second pass at 332.18 mph on Saturday that was only narrowly bettered by Force. The Auto Club team took the top speed of the test on the following pass at 333.33 mph. “Testing went really good. It’s good to be back in my Auto Club Chevy, to be back with my team. The car is responding well and things are lining up,” said Hight. “It was a long time off. I’m happy we didn’t forget how to do this. Austin Dillon and the No. 3 BetMGM Chevrolet Team Earn Hard-Fought 12th-Place Finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

“The No. 3 BetMGM Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE was definitely better at the end of the race today than it was to start off. We were extremely loose for a majority of the race, but it started to come alive late in Stage 3. We were tight at the end, which is not surprising because we had a ton of wedge in our car. I tried to get the No. 47 at the end, but he was pretty good and I just had to keep backing up my entry. We didn’t have the greatest of cars, but we hung in there and turned it into a decent day. Tyler Reddick and No. 8 Ben Gallaher / Quartz Hill Chevrolet Team Fight Hard Through Adversity at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

“Today was a tough day for our No. 8 Ben Gallaher / Quartz Hill Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, but I’m thankful to my team for sticking with me and fighting all day. I started off the day just way too edgy in the rear and couldn’t run anything but the bottom. We started to make some gains on it throughout the race, but it just stayed a touch free pretty much all day. Unfortunately, we had a tire rub towards the middle of the final stage and I thought we had a tire going down, so we had to pit outside of our window. Luckily, we ended up being able to stretch the fuel long enough to just make it to the checkered flag without pitting again. My team and I kept after it as much as we could today and will study this race to learn how to be better for our next trip to Las Vegas.” -Tyler Reddick

The highly anticipated start of the 2021 Holley NMRA Ford Nationals began with the 27th Annual BMR Suspension NMRA Spring Break Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida, over the weekend of March 5-7, 2021.Dramatic shifts in the weather—from temperate sunshine on Friday to dreary rain on Saturday and mineshaft air with a strong tailwind on Sunday—forced some adjustments in the schedule, but the NMRA staff and racers rallied to ensure the event ran to completion and the history books were filled with the names of new winners and record-setters as a result. After a long winter of waiting, fans and spectators also enjoyed a great weekend of exciting racing action along with a complete manufacturer’s midway chock full of great deals, a cherry picker’s dream of a swap meet, a killer UPR Products Car Show, and more. Coming out on top of VP Racing Madditives Street Outlaw qualifying was the turbocharged ’02 Mustang belonging to Steve Halprin courtesy of a 4.249 at 170.28mph blast. Halprin stayed in the game through to the finals where he met with the number-two-qualified driver, John Urist of Hellion Turbo fame, and although he had the holeshot advantage, tire spin was Halprin’s undoing as Urist cruised to the win on a 4.261 at 171.97 mph with his turbocharged S550 Mustang.

Hometown hero Bill Gregan and his ProCharged Fox Mustang blasted through the Edelbrock Renegade field in qualifying, taking the lead with a 4.566 at 152.90mph pass. Hot on his heels was Charles Bartholme of Salisbury, Maryland, in second with a 4.576 at 153.58mph trip. The two staged their ’90 Mustangs together in the finals, and while Gregan had the holeshot advantage, his early troubles meant Bartholme easily drove around his competition to capture the win with a 4.557 at 154.21mph time slip. Samantha Moore’s 8.318 at 161.15mph trip during JDM Engineering Limited Streetqualifying put her into the number-one spot, and was only the beginning of her class-leading performances this weekend. In eliminations, Moore improved round after round and reset the class record with her 8.18-second hit behind the wheel of her supercharged ’14 Mustang California Special. She continued her onslaught all the way to the last matchup and took down Kent Nine with a vicious 8.194 at 162.68mph final blow. A competitive group of G-Force Racing Transmissions Coyote Stock drivers came out to show off, but Nathan Stymiest was the quickest of all and led qualifying thanks to a 9.719 at 137.53 mph pass in his ’92 Mustang. Showing that his advantage was a solid one, Stymiest went on to collect yet another win in his impressive career by putting number-three qualifier Frank Paultanis and his ’04 Mustang on the trailer in the finals, 9.706 at 138.78 mph to 9.869 at 136.98 mph.

Sitting first in Richmond Gear Factory Stock after the qualifying order was set was Mike Bowen, whose ’71 Maverick stopped the clocks in 10.212 seconds at 131.04 mph. Bowen advanced to the finals, but met with Pennsylvania-based racer Justin Fogelsonger who had qualified second. When the lights came down, Fogelsonger’s ’88 Mustang was the first to leave the start and the driver maintained the advantage through to the finish line where his 10.153 at 131.48 mph cemented him as the overall winner for the weekend. Outgunning the rest of the Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle drivers in qualifying, Darren Foster had a perfect “trip zip” reaction time ensuring he and his ’05 Mustang GT received top billing. He bowed out in round two, but Jason Steamer and Jason Henson both surpassed the competition for the final show. Steamer’s ’08 Mustang GT went up against Henson’s ’03 Mach 1. When the men crossed the stripe together, it was Steamer who drove back to Winter Park, Florida, as a winner. Running the gauntlet in Fastest Street Car Super Stang qualifying, Chris Parisi left the line just 0.005 seconds after the green illuminated and his ’20 Mustang helped him secure the leading position. Making his huge array of sponsors proud, Parisi went on to defeat Lloyd Mikeska, who had qualified third, in the finals when he ran 12.089 on his 11.95 dial to Mikeska’s opposing 12.167 on his 11.97 dial in. The huge ARP Open Comp field had some stiff competition as always, with two drivers cutting 0.000-second lights in qualifying. Gerg Cole with his ’88 Mustang and Cameron Bowles with his ’72 Mustang were ranked first and second, respectively, while eliminations hosted Woody Pack of Independence, Virginia, fielding his ’66 Mustang and Steve Cannizzo of Bradenton, Florida, driving his ’67 Mustang. It was a double-breakout situation, but the lesser of two evils swayed in favor of Pack.

A perfect 0.000-second reaction time from reigning champion Bob Dill, who pilots an ’01 Ford F-150, earned him the number-one spot in Detroit Locker Truck & Lightning. Dill went out in round two of eliminations, but both Mike Roup who qualified second and Fred Wade who qualified fifth, hung on until the end. In the finals, Roup and his ’70 Ranchero bested Wade and his ’04 Lightning when he went 11.362 at 118.72 mph and captured the win to take back to his home in Lockhart, Texas. Only 0.007-seconds off his 11.00 index with his ’87 Mustang, Alan Hill was the number-one-qualified driver in RacePagesDigital.com Ford Muscle. Hill hustled hard through each of the competitive elimination rounds and earned his spot in the final. There, opponent Bill Lee Jr. of Palmetto, Florida’s ’79 Fairmont was unable to make a run and so Hill was defaulted the win although he ran under his 11.00 dial in with a 10.945 at 122.05mph pass. Over 100 car-and-driver pairs were on site to show off their street-legal rides in QA1 True Street, but the traditional 30-mile cruise was called off due to unsafe conditions from weather and instead replaced with a timed session spent idling in the pits. After three passes down the drag strip on Saturday night, Donato Sierchio of Forked River, New Jersey, was determined to be the quickest of all as his ’86 Mustang ran the 1,320 in an average time of 8.305 seconds. Larry Albright took second place honors with his ’91 Mustang and an 8.409-second average, while Don Walsh and his ’20 GT500 took the win in the 9-second category. The quickest of the 10-second cars was Scott Boda’s ’18 Mustang, Cary Shotwell and his ’17 Mustang were winners in the 11-second section, while Maci Belcher and her ’16 Mustang were victorious in the 12-second group. Additional winners included Ray Eugenio in the 13-second bunch, Rick Doern in the 14-second segment, and Stephen Priske in the 15-second section. On Sunday, the ACE Racing Spring Break Shootout welcomed the quickest 16 cars from QA1 True Street for a true heads-up competition on a Sportsman ladder and 4/10 pro tree. Unsurprisingly, the rounds whittled down the hopeful drivers to the top two overall, Donato Sierchio and his ’86 Mustang versus Larry Albright and his ’91 Mustang. Both men were well into the 7-second zone, but Sierchio’s 7.367-second hit was no match for Albright’s 7.534-second run and Sierchio added another accolade to his résumé. Continuing the legacy of the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout specialty class, the quickest eight manually shifted Mustangs from QA1 True Street were awarded custom plaques and TREMEC jackets to recognize their accomplishments. Later, while competing on a “Chicago style” ladder, the overall heads-up eliminator was won by David Leshay of The Villages, Florida, piloting his classic ’63 Galaxie to an 11.974 at 115.36mph win over Tyler Thornburg and his ’88 Mustang. His ’86 Mustang proved unbeatable once again all throughout eliminations, as he clinched his third victory of the weekend on a 7.403 at 189.42mph final run while Randy Thomas, who had qualified second with his ’10 Shelby, took home the runner-up honors with his respectable 8.379 at 167.95mph hit. The exciting Watson Racing Cobra Jet Showdown presented by Ford Performance showcases the best of Ford’s factory performance with wild, wheels-up, action. Steve Trombley’s 0.005-second reaction time behind the wheel of his ’13 Cobra Jet earned him the top position in qualifying, and Trombley trumped the competition all through eliminations. For the last run of the weekend, Tony Jarvis who had qualified second pulled into the beams alongside him. Both men had impressive 8-second dial ins, but Trombley crossed the traps with more accuracy and earned the overall honors. The Bracket Open class on Sunday hosted an immense number of cars, requiring eliminations to be contested through seven rounds including the finals. There, Jerry Norton took on J.C. Cole for all the marbles in an unusual final. Cole red-lit with a -0.009-second reaction time, and when Norton tried to leave the line he faced mechanical trouble. Although Norton wasn’t able to complete a pass, he still broke the beams to make his unconventional win official. Mike Marlar and Jonathan Davenport battled back and forth for second throughout the 50-lap eventBy Mike WarrenMARYVILLE, TN – March 6, 2021 – Everything in racing can be going right until the unexpected creates heartbreak.Flashback to one year ago, when Chris “Smokey” Madden was leading at Smoky Mountain Speedway. That’s when power steering issues sidelined him for the night on Lap 25.One year later, he got his redemption, leading every lap of Saturday night’s Tennessee Tipoff en route to his 29th World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Feature win, and second at Smoky Mountain.The win makes Madden only the second driver in World of Outlaws history to win multiple Feature events at the track.While leading all 50 laps seemed like a dominant performance, Madden held off challenges from last year’s winner Mike Marlar, and Jonathan Davenport in heavy lap traffic, to take home the $12,000 prize.Madden got the jump at the initial green flag, powering to the number one spot outside of Davenport in Turn 2. He would hold that position easily through the only two cautions of the race, the first for debris on Lap 5, the other for a collision between Cade Dillard and Sam Seawright on Lap 7.After the final re-start, Madden had to fight through a long green flag run and heavy lap traffic. The driver of the Drydene #44 machine caught the tail end of the field on Lap 16, and five laps later, he’d face his first challenge from Marlar. The 2018 Series champion consistently got a run on Madden into the corner and poked his nose under him each corner. That’s when Madden made a switch to the bottom of the racetrack, blocking Marlar’s runs low line runs.“We got in lap traffic there at the end and I knew he (Marlar) was closing up on me, and I had to try to get some lap cars in between me and him, so I made a move to get a couple in front of him, and I did what I had to do to win the race,” Madden said.Even after making that move, Madden knew patience would be the key in the closing laps of the event.“I knew I had to be patient, not miss my marks, and not overcharge the corners,” Madden said.The win keeps Madden’s momentum rolling, coming off his second consecutive Drydene Xtreme Dirtcar Series Championship last weekend. He also picked up a Drydene Heat Race win earlier in the night.One of the things he’s been happy with to start the season is the help from two new team members.“I got two new guys, Ricky and Steven, they’re working extremely hard, and learning fast, and just doing an outstanding job for me, and I’m proud to have them,” the Court Grey, SC campaigner said.Madden’s biggest challenger throughout the night was Marlar, of Winfield, TN. He kept the pressure on Madden throughout the night but couldn’t get a good enough run to win his second consecutive World of Outlaws race at the track.“Chris (Madden) did a really good job getting in the right lane at the right time, I almost got him and then he knew to move down, and kind of hit a sweet spot in the bottom of the track,” Marlar said.Overall, the 2020 winner of the Tennessee Tip-Off was happy with a second-place finish, after starting in the fifth spot.“Racing’s a humbling sport, I’m never going to complain about second,” Marlar added.While Marlar was trying to put the pressure on Madden, he had even more pressure from Davenport all 50 laps. The two drivers swapped second and third on multiple occasions. One of those occurred during the first 10 laps, as Davenport pulled a slide job on Marlar just as the caution came out on Lap 7.“That second caution came out right at the worst time,” Davenport said. “It was right before it (the track) started taking rubber, and I got the top going pretty good, and was going to slide Mikey (Marlar) right there.”The two battled again in the final 10 laps, when the Blairsville, GA campaigner snuck by Marlar on the bottom on Lap 44, before drifting high while trying to get by a slower car, allowing Marlar to get the spot back two laps later.Hudson O’Neal finished fourth, while Tim McCreadie crossed the line in fifth. Myatt Snider and the No. 2 TaxSlayer Team Persevere Through Tough Breaks at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

“Today definitely didn’t go as planned for our TaxSlayer team. Coming off our first win last week at Homestead-Miami Speedway, our Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet was able to start on the pole and have track position early. We battled a loose-handling condition during the opening stage and I struggled to commit wheel to it off the wall. My crew chief Andy Street had a plan to make adjustments to our Camaro, but unfortunately, as we were entering pit road during the first stage break, the cars in front of me stacked up without notice and as a result, our hood had significant damage. After a few stops for repairs, the pit crew had the car feeling pretty close to how it did at the beginning of the race and we quickly worked our way back to the top-20. Bad luck struck again at the halfway point of the race, when our water temperatures skyrocketed and we were forced to pit under green to cut a hole in the nose and fix duct work. Our No. 2 team does not give up and we kept battling in the final 100 laps. Even though we didn’t have the finish we were hoping for, we now have some notes to go back and dissect before coming back to Vegas for the start of the playoffs.”  -Myatt Snider

NE FOR THE 41: Carson Macedo Makes Statement with Volusia Victory from 10thMacedo Leads World of Outlaws Standings for First Time in his CareerBARBERVILLE, FL – March 5, 2021 – With the spin of a wrench Phil Dietz took Carson Macedo from an uneasy feeling to the best car in the field on Friday night.The revered crew chief at Jason Johnson Racing went to work after a mediocre preliminary performance and sent the Lemoore, CA native on track with what he called “one of the best cars I’ve ever driven in my life.”Macedo masterfully picked his way from tenth-t0-first and executed a late-race pass to steal the win from Sam Hafertepe Jr. with four laps remaining at Volusia Speedway Park. A confidence booster and chemistry builder for a driver and team that know their potential can reach championship heights in 2021 with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.”It’s not every night that your car is that dominant,” Macedo mentioned of his Kistler powered Maxim #41. “I mean that thing was just perfect to drive. Phil [Dietz], Clyde [Knipp], and Nate [Repetz] were incredible tonight. You know, I felt really balanced and great all through DIRTcar Nationals last month, but early tonight I just didn’t feel good. Phil and the guys made a lot of changes for the feature and nailed it. I could go anywhere I wanted. I’m so happy to get a win for this team, these sponsors, a lot of really great people involved.”At the start of Friday’s 30-lap, $10,000-to-win feature, it was Sam Hafertepe Jr. of Sunnyvale, TX and David Gravel of Watertown, CT pacing the field. Hafertepe, who won his second DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash of the season to claim pole position, bolted away and controlled the opening 11 laps. The first stoppage was a surprise when points leader Logan Schuchart stopped in turn four following contact with Gio Scelzi amidst a top five battle.Macedo made his biggest move on that first restart, advancing four spots in one lap with a great fire off the high side of the half-mile. The next restart, however, spelled trouble when the #41 had to line up on the low line. Restarting with 17 laps remaining, Macedo surprised himself and quickly took third from Sheldon Haudenschild, and then set his sights on Hafertepe and Gravel out front.”Hafertepe chose the outside and I was stuck on the bottom, which made me nervous,” Macedo noted on the final restart. “I was on the top every restart prior to that and the bottom wasn’t getting great starts. I didn’t really get a good start, but it was fairly decent and let me sneak back into the top groove in front of Donny. I got that run on Sheldon because he went low, and I was able to slide by him real quick. I felt like my car was as good as those guys, if not better once I got to third. I just needed traffic to move around a bit and capitalize.”And capitalize he did. With heavy lap traffic in play, Macedo reeled in the lead duo and made it a three-way war with seven laps left. The #15H, #2 and #41 ran bumper-t0-bumper-to-bumper with the win on the line.Macedo slid by Gravel for second on the 24th lap and two laps later, he was sliding Hafertepe for the top spot. His massive turn one slider with four laps to go was a thing of beauty, sweeping through the middle and clearing Hafertepe with ease to steal the top spot in the waning circuits.The final four laps went by like a breeze as the 24-year-old pilot drove off into the Florida night with a 2.167-second advantage at the checkered flag. My goal in this sport is to be a World of Outlaws champion. In order to do that, at some point you gotta lead the points. You have to clear those milestones and hit those accomplishments to get there, right? We have a team capable of winning it this year. I know it’s too early to think of that though, we’re just gonna do our best every night and let the cards fell where they fall.Settling for a second-place finish after leading the opening 25 laps was Sam Hafertepe Jr. aboard the Townline Variety #15H. A tough pill to swallow for a driver that’s hungry to end his nine-year winless drought with the Outlaws, but it’s the latest sign that his operation is as good as ever. Batavia, OH (March 5, 2021) – Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series officials along with I-80 Speedway promoters are thrilled to announce one of the biggest weeks in super late model history with an unheard of purse of over half a million dollars up for grabs July 20th – 24th.  The Al Belt Custom Homes I-80 Nationals will start the week off with two, 30 lap, $7,000-to-win preliminary events, one on Tuesday, July 20th, the other on Wednesday, July 21st. Thursday, July 22nd will be the 53 lap, $30,000-to-win, $2,000-to-start, I-80 Nationals finale. There will also be a $2,000-to-win non-qualifier race that will pay $530 to start.  The focus will then shift to the Silver Dollar Nationals with action continuing on Friday, July 23rd, with dual heat race action. The heats will award passing points to drivers, which will line up Saturday’s main event and B-Mains. Each heat race will also pay the top 3 finishers $250, $150, and $100 respectively. Saturday’s 80 lap Silver Dollar Nationals will pay $53,000 to win, $5,300 to start. Once again, there will be a non-qualifiers race which will pay $5,300 to the winner, and $1,000 to start.   Championship points for the series will be awarded for Thursday’s Al Belt Custom Homes I-80 Nationals and Saturday’s Silver Dollar Nationals.
