BIG GAME HUNTERS: David Gravel Wrangles Big Gator Championship at DIRTcar Nationals

Elusive Volusia Victory Brings Gravel to 70 Career World of Outlaws Wins

BARBERVILLE, FL – February 12, 2022 – The Big Game Motorsports crew went big game hunting and got themselves a Big Gator Championship on Saturday night.

Following up finishes of fourth on Thursday and second on Friday, David Gravelput the ultimate exclamation point on his DIRTcar Nationals title with a downright dominating victory in Saturday’s Feature at Volusia Speedway Park. For his unrivaled performance over three nights, Gravel secured his second-career Big Gator Championship.

Earning the pole position with a DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash win, Gravel took the green flag, set the cruise control, and never let go until the Huset’s Speedway #2 crossed the checkered flag with a 1.114-second margin of victory. It was a big bounceback win for Tod Quiring’s operation, which is headed by reigning Crew Chief of the Year Cody Jacobs along with Trey Bowman & Zach Patterson.

The victory, which was Gravel’s first in World of Outlaws competition at Volusia and in Florida, came just 24 hours after losing a heartbreaker to Sheldon Haudenschild by 0.044-seconds. That was with only three shocks, though, and then they proved how lethal they were with a fully operational beast.

A now-resident of West Palm Beach, FL, Gravel collected his 70th career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win at Volusia Speedway Park, which became the 40th track he’s won at.

Another eight months and 85+ races remain in the 2022 campaign, but this is no doubt the hottest start of Gravel’s career and arguably the most potential he’s had when it comes to putting all the pieces together to record that first career championship.

“This deal is hard, you know there’s a reason why there are only 10 champions in World of Outlaws history,” Gravel spoke on the early-season title outlook. “I’ve never done it before and I’ve been on the road since 2013 just learning every single season. We have to take it one race at a time. It’s definitely a confidence builder, but we realize this place is unique and unlike other places we’ll see.”

“It’s no doubt, though, that I’ve got one of the best car owners in the business and we’ve got a really good team on the road. I’m excited to really get into the swing of things.”

After starting on the outside pole, Kraig Kinser of Bloomington, IN chased Gravel for the opening half and was making headway in trying to track him down until the right rear let loose and sent the #11K careening into the wall on Lap 15.

From there, Brent Marks of Myerstown, PA assumed the runner-up and never let it go as he crossed the stripe with a Volusia career-best of second-place. It’s a strong start for the seven-time World of Outlaws winner who will embark on a true outlaw schedule – including 40+ dates with The Greatest Show in Dirt – in 2022 with the Murray-Marks #19.

“We had a really good car, but not as good as David,” Marks mentioned. “We needed more lap traffic to get to him. It’s been an amazing adventure so far with Murray-Marks, though. I normally struggle here so to run second-place tonight is pretty well for us.”

Rounding out the podium was James McFadden of Alice Springs, NT, AUS with a season-best third-place run in the Roth Motorsports #83.

“Getting this new deal with Roth Motorsports on the podium so quick is awesome for us,” McFadden said. “It’s a privilege for me to come over and race in front of a crowd like this. We just have to keep taking advantage and building our momentum to chase the championship.”

Sheldon Haudenschild finished fourth aboard the Stenhouse Jr. Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17 and Brad Sweet ran fifth in the Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49.

Closing out the top-10 on Saturday night at Volusia was Donny Schatz, Cory Eliason, Giovanni Scelzi, Logan Schuchart with a 22nd-to-ninth KSE Hard Charger run, and Carson Macedo in the tenth spot.

UP NEXT – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will enjoy next weekend at home before taking The Greatest Show on Dirt to the dirty south for a trip to Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on Friday, February 25, and The Rev in Monroe, LA on Saturday, February 26.

JOHN FORCE RACING CLOSES OUT TESTING PREPARED TOTAKE ON 2022 NHRA SEASON

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 12, 2022) – The John Force Racing team wrapped three days of testing at Professional Racers Organization (PRO) Nitro Spring Training at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park on Saturday with gained confidence heading into the 2022 NHRA Camping World season. John Force and the PEAK / BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS team were the highlight of the session leaving with top marks in Funny Car. Robert Hight and the Automobile Club of Southern California team made a statement while Brittany Force and the Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team looked to build power and Austin Prock found his groove with the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist team.
Sixteen-time Funny Car world champion John Force led the four-car team with a series of four back-to-back runs in the 3.8s. After making a few planned shut-off passes on Thursday, Force and his Danny Hood and Tim Fabrisi tuned PEAK BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS team laid down a 3.889-second pass at 321.88 mph on Friday followed by a 3.888 at 327.51. The momentum continued into Saturday’s test runs with Force handling his hot rod to an impressive 3.836-second run at 335.4 mph on Saturday morning. In the heat of the day, the PEAK BlueDEF team landed a 3.890 at 326.16 so close out their test session.
“It’s great to back out here, back in the seat, back with my team, Danny Hood, Tim Fabrisi, all these young kids, it was a good couple of days,” said Force. “Four runs in the 3.8s for this PEAK Chevy, that’s really something, that makes you feel good going into the season opener. I’m feeling like everything is falling back into place. The problems, they’re figuring themselves out, we got Austin Prock back in a seat, Montana Brand back. Brittany over there with Monster and Flav-R-Pac for a couple more years, Robert with Auto Club and bringing on Powers Solar. I feel good being out here, I want to race, that’s why I’m here. I’m ready to get going.”
Brittany Force and the Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team took full advantage of the test session. Crew chiefs David Grubnic and Mac Savage tested various engine combinations looking to add to the performance they had in 2021. The team made nine attempts with planned shutoffs that showed quality early numbers including .816-seconds at 60 ft. and 2.075 at 330 ft.
“It’s good to be back with my Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team out here at Wild Horse Pass doing some pre-season testing before Pomona kicks off in another week,” said Force. “We made nine runs throughout the three days. It was a little bit of a struggle, but we are testing a lot of different things. Our early numbers were great and we’re happy overall with how our testing went and we’re ready to get to Pomona.”
Robert Hight and the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS team were the first to make a full pass at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. The championship crew chief tandem of Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham wasted no time and went to 1,000 feet in their first attempt on Thursday morning. The Auto Club Chevy put up a 3.911-second pass at 323.11 mph to lead the Funny Cars. On Friday, Hight came in second quickest with a 3.879 pass at 331.26 mph The three-time champs closed things out with a solid 3.864 at 334.82.
“It was great being back out in the Auto Club Chevy, back with my team, Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham,” said Hight. “We had to put in some hard work but ultimately we’re ready to get this season started. We don’t want a repeat of last year and we’re all on the same page. I think it’s going to be a good year. Jimmy coming out right away with a full pass, that’s how you know, he’s confident. We had some good runs, learned some things and now it’s time to get things going. I’m excited.”
Making his return to the Top Fuel ranks, Austin Prock made two promising passes on the final day of testing. With a new team, new crew chief duo of Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler and nearly two years out of the seat, the 2019 rooking of the year took the first two days of testing to get comfortable not just in the seat but with the team as well. An impressive final day of testing can squash any doubts of the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist dragster not being a contender this season. In the heat, Prock went 3.73-seconds at 327 mph and followed it up with a stout 3.685 at 333.66 mph in the afternoon under slightly cooler conditions.
“After today, I’m feeling pretty good. We had some bugs to work out the first two days; we have new crew chiefs, new crew and obviously I sat out almost two years,” said Prock. “With today’s results, I’m really looking forward to Pomona. We made two really solid passes, one in the heat and one when the track was cooler. I’m getting more comfortable every lap and starting to become myself again. Everyone did a really great job. Huge thanks to Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler and all my guys for really working hard these past four weeks.”
The John Force Racing team will head to Pomona, California where they’ll kick-off the 2022 NHRA Camping World Series at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Feb. 18-20.

Moran Ends Wrisco Industries Winternationals with Win at East Bay

Tampa, FL (February 12, 2022) – Devin Moran concluded a successful Georgia-Florida Speedweeks with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series as the 27-year-old Ohio resident took the final night of the 2022 Wrisco Industries Winternationals Presented by Lucas Oil on Saturday Night at East Bay Raceway Park. Moran made a daring move on a lap-34 restart to take the lead from Brandon Sheppard for his third win of the season. Sheppard was looking to make East Bay history with his fourth straight win, but he was involved in an accident with two other drivers which forced him out of the race. He was credited with a 21st place finish. Tyler Erb came home in second place followed by Mark Whitener, Tanner English, and Brandon Overton. Leading four of the five races this week at East Bay, Overton took the lead at the start of the 50-lap main event to lead the first two laps of the race. Sheppard led as a torrid battle for second was going on among four other drivers. Sheppard continued to stretch his lead out over his competitors, opening a nearly five second advantage. The first caution for rain on lap 28 halted the race for a few moments. When the race went back green Sheppard was still on point with Kyle Bronson and Moran trailing him. With the lap 34-restart Moran made the pass for the lead and then held off Erb in the last five laps of the race for his fifth career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the second time in his career at East Bay Moran pocketed $15,000 for the win in front of a huge crowd of spectators. “They did an awesome job on the track. I think the rain helped us because we had a softer tire on than almost everyone else. I am pretty much speechless; there for a while I didn’t know if we could do it or not. Like I said the rain brought some moisture back in the track. This car has been good all season long. We have been missing here just a little bit all week long. We tried something earlier in the night and it was pretty good.” “I knew I was going to have to do something special to beat that 1 car. He (Sheppard) was the best car all week long without a doubt. I felt the bottom cleaning up under that caution. When we got into one and I knew we were door-to-door with him (Sheppard) I was going to the fence to get the lead because I knew that might be my only shot. I knew I was going to have to move down the track and I just about gave it away to Terbo.” Erb equaled his best Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series finish of the year with a second-place run. “It was the craziest race I have ever been in; a race that rained and everything that happened there. Those last two or three cautions I didn’t need. I just wish it would have stayed green.” Whitener’s third-place run was his best of the Georgia-Florida Speedweeks. “We finally got the car to where I could drive it tonight. Just glad to be on the podium for my guys. It feels like a win with this tough crowd. I have got a lot of laps around here so we will take this as a victory.” The winner’s Tye Twarog Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by C&W Trucking, CarSourceAuto.com, Bilstein Shocks, Tri-Valley Equipment Sales, Accuforce Dynos and Testers, McHugh Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat, Haulin’ Haskell’s, Eibach Springs, Red Oak Pub, Igimage.com, and Tommy Pope Construction. Completing the top ten were Ashton Winger, Ricky Thornton Jr., Jimmy Owens, Tyler Bruening, and Tim McCreadie.

TICKETS PUNCHED: Krup, Hoffman Lead Field of Drivers Locked into Saturday’s Gator Championship

Saturday program begins with 10 makeup Features from Thursday night

BARBERVILLE, FL – Feb. 11, 2022 – Of the 107 DIRTcar UMP Modified drivers in attendance for the 51st DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, 20 are now locked into Saturday’s Gator Championship.

The top-10 finishers from the two Gator Qualifier Features have locked themselves into the grand finale, which will pay $5,000-to-win and award the iconic Big Gator trophy. The top-5 from each Qualifier have been locked into the redraw on Saturday, which will randomize the top-10 starting positions before the start of the 30-lap main event.

The five makeup Features added to Friday’s program, scheduled to race after the Gator Qualifiers, were canceled and will not be made up. The purse money for those five races has been added into the 10 makeup Features from Thursday night, which will kick off the Saturday program, beginning at noon Eastern.

GATOR QUALIFIER #1
Will Krup has been a DIRTcar Nationals regular for the past several years, but hadn’t been to Victory Lane in the event since 2017. That all changed Friday night, as he steered his Longhorn by Loenbro Modified #K9 to victory, thanks to a brilliant move on the bottom lane.

Krup trailed race leader Tyler Nicely in the opening laps but kept pace with him, waiting for the right moment to pounce and make the move. Krup had a great run going down low and powered around Nicely down the backstretch to take the lead on Lap 4.

Several caution flags were thrown from that point forward, including one for Nicely himself. He spun out in Turns 3-4 and was forced to go to the tail, but wouldn’t stay long as he retired early to the pit area. A few more caution flags in the proceeding laps forced the race past its time limit, making the race official with 11 laps completed.

“The racetrack is definitely a lot better than it was yesterday,” Krup said. “I’ve got to thank everyone who is a part of this deal. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do this. The car was good. Sucks they cut it short, but we’ll take a win. It’s been a while since I won one of these gators, so it feels good to take one home.”

TOP 10 LOCKED-IN: Will Krup, Justin Allgaier, Mike Harrison, Garret Stewart, Zeke McKenzie, Hunt Gossum, Steve Stevenson, Austin Holcombe, Danny Schwartz and Matt Crafton.

GATOR QUALIFIER #2
When two of the winningest drivers in DIRTcar Nationals UMP Modified history square-off in a main event, it becomes a must-see show. Nick Hoffman and Kyle Strickler didn’t disappoint in the nightcap to Friday’s program.

Hoffman went from fourth to the lead on the opening lap and began to set the pace right away. The only driver that could keep up with him was his DIRTcar Nationals nemesis – Kyle Strickler.

Strickler caught Hoffman at the right time as they reached lapped traffic, cashing-in on a big run through Turns 3-4 and sliding up in front of him to take the lead at the flag stand. A caution came out just after they crossed the stripe, meaning Hoffman had to restart second.

But the six-time and defending Big Gator points champion hit the gas at the drop of the green and did what he does best, sailing past Strickler with a power move to the inside down the backstretch to regain the lead.

Another caution was thrown one circuit later, forcing the race past its time limit, making the running order official and Hoffman a Gator trophy winner for the 21st time in his career.

“I just had to get my elbows up,” Hoffman said. “Kyle drove by me and was pretty good out there. I just had to get back on the horse and ride on that restart to get back by him in Turns 1-2.

“He’s super-aggressive. We’ve raced against each other for almost 15 years now, and I love racing with him.”

TOP 10 LOCKED-IN: Nick Hoffman, Kyle Strickler, Kenny Wallace, Matt Long, Clay Harris, Nick Allen, David Stremme, Rick Eckert, Brian Shaw and Michael McGee.

The DIRTcar UMP Modified action wraps-up on Saturday, starting with the 10 makeup Features from Thursday at noon, followed by the regularly scheduled Gator Championship program. Buy a ticket to see it in person or stream every lap live on DIRTVision.

NOS-SOME: Sheldon Haudenschild Edges David Gravel & Brad Sweet in DIRTcar Nationals Thriller

Three Lead Changes in Final Two Laps of Incredible Finish at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, FL – February 11, 2022 – The excitement of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series was on full display on Friday night.

Hosting a race of the year candidate at Volusia Speedway Park, the DIRTcar Nationals Feature was highlighted by three different leaders over the final two laps at the Barberville, FL 1/2-mile. Simply put, it was an instant classic.

Reigning champion Brad Sweet was in the catbird seat with two to go, then points leader David Gravel asserted himself as he led the white flag lap, but ultimately it was Sheldon Haudenschild inching out the victory by forty-four one-thousandths of a second (0.044) at the checkered flag.

The epic ending promptly sent the massive crowd into a frenzy at Volusia and lit social media ablaze with praise as the Stenhouse Jr. Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17 pulled into victory lane.

“What a wild race,” Haudenschild said to a standing ovation. “Man, that was so much fun. Those two were gassing it up and I can only imagine how it looked from the stands. I’m really looking forward to this year. We’ve got a great group focused on having fun and winning races.”

Haudenschild’s 23rd career World of Outlaws win gives the Wooster, OH native his second Golden Gator almost exactly four years after he won his first-career Feature at Volusia’s DIRTcar Nationals back in 2018.

Albeit a heartbreaker, Gravel’s runner-up effort was wildly impressive considering the circumstances. Losing the right front shock at halfway, the 29-year-old veteran never wavered and instead adapted to the ever-changing Big Game Motorsports #2.

The Watertown, CT native set Slick Woody’s QuickTime, won the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, and led 22 of 30 laps, including at the white flag. However, the holes ate up his unbalanced machine coming to the checkered flag and created a big bobble, allowing Haudenschild to square him up and cross him over to edge him at the line by 0.044 seconds.

“I knew on that last restart with 16 to go that my right front shock was gone, but damn I wanted to win this race,” a motivated Gravel said. “When I could haul ass and get this thing to lay left it was still amazing, but when I slowed down and got into the holes that’s where I gave it away. We weren’t going to stop fighting for that one. I hope everyone enjoyed that!”

Although it’s only the second of 90+ races, a noteworthy feat is that Gravel escaped with the points lead for the first time in his World of Outlaws career. It’s a long road until the $200,000 championship check cashes after World Finals in November, but DG and Tod Quiring’s Big Game Motorsports group have proven they’re ready to reach the mountaintop.

Closing out the trio of tremendous drivers on Friday’s podium was Brad Sweet, who rebounded from a rough opening night 16th to finish third on night two. The Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 controlled Laps 22-28, but costly mistakes in turns one and two combined with the pace of lap traffic ultimately cost The Big Cat his 75th career win.

“Wow, that was a really fun race,” Sweet noted afterward. “You hate to come up short, but Sheldon and David did a phenomenal job. I struggled as I got to traffic with my pace and couldn’t get off turn two as well as them. These last five to seven laps are what wins and loses races in this Series. I was searching and that’s not a feeling you want late in the going. We’ll get better for tomorrow.”

Earning their first top-five finishes of the season was Carson Macedo with a KSE Hard Charger Award from 16th to fourth in the Jason Johnson Racing #41, and Jacob Allen with an impressive fifth-place bid aboard the Shark Racing #1A.

James McFadden drove the Roth Motorsports #83 from 18th to sixth, Thursday’s winner Donny Schatz ran seventh in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing #15, Tyler Courtney again finished eighth with his Clauson-Marshall Racing #7BC, Cory Eliason took the Rudeen Racing #26 to ninth-place, and Aaron Reutzel concluded the top-10 in his RSR #8.

UP NEXT (Sat) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will conclude the 51st DIRTcar Nationals on Saturday night at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL. For those unable to attend, you can watch every lap LIVE on DIRTVision.

Sheppard Makes it Three in a Row at East Bay Winternationals

Tampa, FL (February 11, 2022) – For the second night in a row Brandon Sheppard had to hold his breath on the final lap with a one-lap shootout to win night four of the 2022 Wrisco Industries Winternationals Presented by Lucas Oil at East Bay Raceway Park. It was Sheppard’s third straight win in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event. Just one night earlier Sheppard survived contact with the fourth turn wall in holding off Earl Pearson Jr. and Kyle Bronson on the final lap. Friday Night Sheppard survived an attempted pass by Brandon Overton as a caution-flag came out as the two were headed to the checkers. The final restart with the white flag waving, Sheppard pulled away from Overton for his ninth career win at East Bay. Despite a heavily damaged race car Overton finished in second followed by Ashton Winger, Devin Moran, and Tim McCreadie.
The first 24 laps of the race were outstanding with three drivers trading the lead four times. Sheppard led the first 11 laps until Chase Junghans took over the point for one lap before Sheppard regained the lead on lap 13. Junghans was once again out front on lap 14 until lap 21. Overton took over lead on lap 22 for two laps, but Sheppard came to life again regaining the lead for good on lap 24. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 25th time in his career Sheppard came out of a terrific first half of the race to emerge victorious. “Our car was really good in the bottom at the beginning of the race. I went up to the top one time and I thought it was going to be treacherous running up there the whole time. Chase (Junghans) did a good job getting by me; it made me and Overton get up on the wheel. That was a heck of a race. Overton got by me too. Luckily in lapped traffic I was able to get back by them before the caution come out. It was a little slimy at the start, but the longer the race went the better the track got.” Overton led two laps during the mid-part of the race but came home in second to Sheppard. “Spencer (Hughes) had nowhere to go when the 10-car stuffed it in the fence. That was my only shot. Brandon wasn’t moving off the bottom. He got behind some lapped cars and went to the outside. Once I had clear vision there was a wreck in front of me. I am excited I got to race with him tonight. Every other night we have started up front and went straight backwards.”  Winger continued his impressive Georgia-Florida Speedweeks by rounding out the podium in third. “I can’t figure out how to go the first five to ten laps when I need to. I have to claw my way back and you drive by some really good cars and there’s Brandon Sheppard and Brandon Overton in front of you. It’s almost breathtaking. It’s cool to be racing with such great guys.” The winner’s Mark Richards Racing Rocket Chassis House Car is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Gunter’s Honey, Petroff Towing, Rocket Pre-Owned Motors, Sallack Well Service, Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, and Ace Metal Works. Completing the top ten were Chase Junghans, Garrett Alberson, Earl Pearson Jr., Hudson O’Neal, and Ricky Thornton Jr.

All Progressive American Flat Track Classes Slated for Springfield Mile Doubleheader on Labor Day Weekend

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 11, 2022) – Progressive American Flat Track is excited to announce that, for the first time in nearly a decade, Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER will compete alongside the Mission SuperTwins presented by S&Sand Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines classes at the “World’s Fastest Mile” when the series arrives at the Illinois State Fairgrounds for the Springfield Mile I & II on September 3-4.

The Springfield Mile represents the crown jewel of the annual Progressive AFT calendar. That distinction has been earned not just by its long history and packed grandstands, but also by the incredible nature of the racing it reliably produces. Many of the most memorable races in series history have taken place at the Springfield Mile since the historic race was first held in 1937, including strategic showdowns, come-from-behind shockers, and underdog upsets. The return of the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles class, which is renowned for its spectacular action, should only add to that record.

This year marks the start of a new era for another reason as well, as Kiesow Racing and the Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association (IMDA) have passed the torch to Mees Promotions following four successful decades promoting the legendary race.

Fans can purchase their tickets for the 107th and 108th running of the Springfield Mile during the 2022 Labor Day Weekend extravaganza today by visiting https://store.americanflattrack.com/ebooking/ticket/view/id/3668. YELLOW LED-BETTER: Donny Schatz Strikes First in 2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Season

Schatz Beats Larson to Score 23rd Career DIRTcar Nationals Win at Volusia

BARBERVILLE, FL – February 10, 2022 – Pearl Jam once sang “I don’t know whether I’m the boxer or the bag,” and the same could be thought of Donny Schatz’s whirlwind 2021 season with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

When it comes to 2022, though, there’s no denying which end of the spectrum the 10-time champion is starting on; he’s the boxer, and he’s ready to reclaim the world title that was bestowed upon him for years.

The box score will show Schatz led all 25 laps of Thursday’s season-opening affair at Volusia Speedway Park, but it was anything but a snoozer as he methodically maneuvered the challenging 1/2-mile and had to fend off reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson on the final restart.

Speaking on the surface, Schatz offered a one-liner to the roar of the crowd as he noted “I’d rather land on the other side of the fence than run second.” It almost felt like a rejuvenated Donny emerged from the cockpit, especially so with his personal favorite yellow scheme back on the #15.

In the end, Schatz’s symbolic win is like a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the tedious task of researching, developing, and mastering the Ford Performance Stewart 410 engine. After a rollercoaster process of getting this program off the ground, the FPS410 appears more reliable and more powerful than ever.

Another element of that is the off-season restructuring of Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing with Steve “Scuba” Swenson, Todd Devnich, and Ayrton Olson working on the Advance Auto Parts, Carquest Auto Parts, Sage Fruit #15 this season.

For the 44-year-old native of Fargo, ND, it was another night to pad the stats as he secured his 303rd career win with The Greatest Show on Dirt with 14 of those coming in World of Outlaws action and 24 in total under the DIRTcar Nationals banner.

“It all starts with night one and you really need to get that first win out of the way as soon as possible,” Schatz said after his fifth career season-opening victory. “Starting on the outside was a blessing for us with the way it rolled out. I didn’t want to run down in the rough stuff, but there at the end I knew I had to if I wanted to win.”

“It’s been a big change,” he detailed on the continued expansion at TSR. “These guys have never lost focus, though, and I think we’ve been showing how much better we are. One of the parts about this sport that still drives me is our partners, they’re always by our side win or lose. It makes it more special when we deliver the wins they deserve.”

Chasing Schatz to the stripe on Thursday night was Kyle Larson of Elk Grove, CA aboard Paul Silva’s Finley Farms, HendrickCars.com #57. The Hendrick Motorsports superstar advanced from sixth to second and cleared Schatz with a Lap 26 slidejob, but didn’t have enough to hold off the #15 as they raced wheel-to-wheel down the backstretch.

Finishing 1.542-seconds behind, the 24-time World of Outlaws winner earned his 16th runner-up result with the Series. It was the seventh time that Larson fell short against Schatz – more than double any other driver – and also meant his winless record at Volusia Speedway Park will extend at least one more race.

“It was elbows up,” Larson said with a smile. “I think growing up in California really paid off for me tonight because I’m used to seeing choppy tracks with ruts and being forced to get up on the wheel against some aggressive character. I three what I had at Donny, but I think we needed lap traffic maybe. It was a fun race, hopefully we can be one spot better tomorrow.”

Closing out the podium was Aaron Reutzel of Clute, TX, who put together a stellar season-opening bid for the Ridge & Son Racing #8 team. With a new Mobil1 partnership and the Toyota Racing Development 410 engine under the hood, A-Aron started the night in perfect fashion.

He earned Slick Woody’s QuickTime, won his NOS Energy Drink Heat Race, topped the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, and ultimately finished third in the DIRTcar Nationals Feature.

“What a great start for this team,” Reutzel happily mentioned. “I knew Donny wasn’t going to duck in behind me, and that was my fear of losing the lead at the start. I thought I was coming at one point in lap traffic, but then I started fading as the fuel load fell off. Once Kyle got me it changed the race for us. We’ll take what we learned and hopefully get up there on top tomorrow.”

Rounding out the top-five was Big Game Motorsports pilot David Gravel in fourth and Dillsburg, PA’s Anthony Macri in fifth.

Sheppard Gets Second Straight Lucas Oil Victory at East Bay

Tampa, FL (February 10, 2022) – Brandon Sheppard escaped with a win on Thursday Night at East Bay Raceway Park as the 29-year-old Illinois driver nearly gave away a sure-fire victory when he got into the fourth turn wall heading to the white-flag. Sheppard recovered quickly enough to hold off Earl Pearson Jr. and Kyle Bronson who were bearing down on him. It was Sheppard’s second-straight win in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Wrisco Industries Winternationals Presented by Lucas Oil at “The Clay by the Bay.” Pearson recorded his best series finish of the campaign. Bronson charged from his 16th starting spot for the second night in a row as he came home in third after finishing in fourth on Wednesday Night. Pearson was 0.516 seconds behind the winner and Bronson was just 0.641 seconds behind Sheppard at the finish line in a close ending. Devin Moran crossed the line in fourth followed by Hudson O’Neal, who wound up fifth after starting 17th. Brandon Overton took the lead at the start of the 40-lap main event, and it looked like it was going to be his night again at East Bay as he and Pearson ran 1-2 for the first 20 laps of the race. Just past the halfway mark the complexion of the race changed for Overton as he saw Brian Shirley get by both him and Pearson to take over the lead on lap 21. One lap later Sheppard took over the point as Overton started to fade. A caution with two laps to go set up a green-white-checker finish which proved to be almost detrimental to Sheppard after the hitting the wall in turn four he stayed against the concrete for most of the front stretch, but he able to right the ship just in time. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 24th time in his career Sheppard felt relieved that the race was over. “I thought I gave that one away that was a crazy race for sure,” said Sheppard, who started eighth in the race. “I got rolling pretty good on the top there early in the race. As long as I was passing guys I was going to stay up there. I got the lead and my crew told me I was good to just stay up there so I just kept going.”  “I am just super thankful. We have had a really fast car all of Speedweeks, it’s finally starting to come together for us. I want to thank all of the fans. Hopefully, we put on a good show for them. We had a fast car there and we almost gave it away. But we ended up getting it done so that’s awesome and I am super-proud of my team. Hopefully, we can do it again tomorrow night.” Pearson driving the Jason Papich – owned team was not close enough to Sheppard when the leader bounced off the wall on the final lap coming up just short of his first series win since 2020. “I just run around the bottom. That’s where I usually like to race. I knew he (Sheppard) would be tough on the top there. He made a little of a mistake there which he usually doesn’t do. After that he didn’t make any more mistakes on that last lap. We got close to him. There is no doubt he’s tough here. He has won a lot of races here.” Bronson put on a show again for home-track fans taking third. “I didn’t get a good-enough restart there at the end. It was a driver mistake there. I just didn’t fire off like I should have. When he (Sheppard) made the mistake, I wasn’t there to pounce on it. That’s the way it goes we will just take it a learn from it. We will work on the car some more tomorrow and hopefully we will be a couple more spots better. I overheated the right rear tire there. I was married to the top. I grew up here, this is where I cut my teeth at racing street stocks.” The winner’s Mark Richards Racing Rocket Chassis House Care is powered by a Durham Racing Engine is sponsored by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Ace Metal Works, Gunter’s Honey, Petroff Towing, Keyser Manufacturing, Sallack Well Services, Integra Racing Shocks, and Rocket Pre-Owned Motors. Completing the top ten were Max Blair, Tyler Erb, Daulton Wilson, Ashton Winger, and Brian Shirley.

Sheppard Super in Wednesday Night’s East Bay Winternationals Action

Tampa, FL (February 9, 2022) – Brandon Sheppard passed race leader Brandon Overton on lap 13 to win for the seventh time in his career at East Bay Raceway Park in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. On Wednesday night the four-time Dirt Track World Championship winner took night number two of the Wrisco Industries Winternationals Presented by Lucas Oil for his second series win of 2022.
Ashton Winger finished in second for his best career run in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series as he edged out Tyler Erb at the checkers. Erb was third at the end with Kyle Bronson rallying from a pit stop to finish fourth on his home track. Ricky Thornton Jr. rounded out the top five finishers.
Sheppard, who started on the pole led the first seven laps of the race until Overton, who started right behind Sheppard in the lineup, vaulted by Sheppard for the lead in traffic. A stretch of back-to-back cautions kept the field bunched up. On the restart after a lap nine caution, Overton held the point for three more circuits before Sheppard regained the lead on lap 13. From then on Sheppard ran virtually unchallenged to the finish. There was a caution with four laps remaining in the race that gave Sheppard’s competitors one last gasp, but he smoothly held his line to the checkers.
In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 23rd time in his racing career, Sheppard joined Overton and Devin Moran as two-time feature winners this year with the series. “I just hit my marks. He (Overton) passed me in lapped traffic, you don’t know when you’re leading whether to pull out and try to pass them guys or what to do. Luckily, he was missing the bottom there a little but getting into one and that let us get under him in one and two. So, after that I knew I had to hit my marks and the cautions fell when they needed to fall. The restarts here are really stressful, you don’t know where to take off at. I took off way too early that one time, I thought that was going to keep me from getting passed on the restart.”
“Thanks to Mark Richards and Steve Baker from Rocket Chassis for this great opportunity they gave me going on seven years ago now. It’s been a heck of a ride for us. I want to give a shoutout to Ron Slavic. He’s not here with us any longer. He was a huge supporter of ours, so we are thinking about him and his family; the Ramirez family as well.”
Winger, who has been fast all year finally put together a night topped off by his best career run with the series. “It feels like you lose about ten of ‘em before you get a chance to win one. I guess if you are going to run second it should be to a Brandon. Congrats to them guys. I know they worked hard, and their car is really good, they have a good program there. We were just a little off, I feel like I can’t fire off as good as I need to.”
Erb, who entered the week with four career wins at East Bay rounded out the podium. “Once you get to the cars that have the grasp on it here there wasn’t many options to move around. I got to second and I just had to try something on the restart. I went to the top and let Winger get by me.”
The winner’s Mark Richards Racing Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Ace Metal Works, Gunter’s Honey, Petroff Towing, Sallack Well Services, Integra Racing Shocks, Keyser Manufacturing, and Rocket Pre-Owned Motors.
Completing the top ten were Hudson O’Neal, Earl Pearson Jr., Stormy Scott, Tim McCreadie, and Devin Moran.

In 2021, The Big Cat steered his Maxim/Kistler entry to a third straight championship with the tremendous trio of Eric Prutzman, Joe Mooney & Andrew Bowman staying on the crew. His achievement put him alongside legends Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz as the only drivers to ever record a three-peat.The attention now turns to the fourth title for the Grass Valley, CA native, who kickstarts that title defense at one of his best tracks. With six of his 74 wins coming at Volusia, the Barberville, FL 1/2-mile is tied with Cedar Lake as the winningest track of Sweet’s career. He’ll try to snatch some more wins this week with his third DIRTcar Nationals championship on the line.BACK TO BUSINESS: When it comes to Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing all that matters is winning. After a strenuous research & development program, the powerhouse #15 team believes the Ford Performance 410 engine is as strong as ever entering the 2022 season; providing the 10-time Series champion with his next chance at returning to the mountaintop. The Fargo, ND native has decked out the Advance Auto Parts, Carquest #15 in his favorite colors, and starts the season at one of his best tracks this week. When it comes to Volusia, nobody can muster the numbers to touch Schatz’s. He’s won 13 World of Outlaws Feature at the Florida facility (more than double Sweet at 6) with a record total of 22 DIRTcar Nationals wins.BUILDING CHEMISTRY: Three of last year’s breakout teams are all back together and ready to re-launch a new attack on taming their first-ever championship with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.David Gravel and Big Game Motorsports immediately clicked in 2021, rattling off 11 wins as DG earned a career-best championship runner-up. The Watertown, CT native has reigning Crew Chief of the Year Cody Jacobs back on the wrenches and full backing from Tod Quiring on the Huset’s Speedway #2. The Florida resident has scored an All Star win at Volusia but still chases his first World of Outlaws win at the track, which would give him 70 on his career.Filling Gravel’s spot at Jason Johnson Racing and exceeding expectations in year one was Carson Macedo, who also scored 11 wins with a career-best third-place championship effort in 2021. The Lemoore, CA native has developed into a nightly threat with ace Phil Dietz calling the shots on the #41. The 25-year-old enters Volusia as the most recent winner following an impressive 10th-to-first charge last March at VSP.Statistically, Sheldon Haudenschild put together a career year in 2021 by setting personal bests with eight wins, 296 laps led, and 23 podium finishes. The Wooster, OH native goes into his fifth season aboard the Stenhouse Jr. Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17 with high hopes since retaining crew chief Kyle Ripper. The DIRTcar Nationals means Lil’ Haud returns to the site of his first-career win which came at Volusia during the 2018 season opener.COAST-TO-COAST: After competing in Sunday’s groundbreaking Clash at the Coliseum, two of Hendrick Motorsports’ top stars in the NASCAR Cup Series flew from LA back east to get their Sprint Car fix this week at the DIRTcar Nationals.Kyle Larson & Paul Silva will unload the revered #57 for the first time this week at a place the reigning NASCAR champion has yet to conquer. The Elk Grove, CA native has scored wins at 89 different dirt tracks worldwide, yet the Barberville, FL 1/2-mile is not on that list. Sandwiched between his 24 World of Outlaws wins is seven DIRTcar Nationals top-10 finishes, but Yung Money still vies for that first Volusia victory this week.Alex Bowman will make his World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series debut this week aboard his own Ally Racing #55. The Hendrick Motorsports star began dabbling in 410 competition last year and prepares to hit it even harder in 2022 as he challenges himself with a new discipline. The Tucson, AZ native has 10-time World of Outlaws winner Joe Gaerte on the wrenches of his ride.GATORS OR SHARKS: The defending DIRTcar Nationals champions, Shark Racing, will try to earn back-to-back Big Gator Championships for the first time since the trophy was introduced a decade ago. Together, Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen are preparing for their ninth season with the World of Outlaws.Logan Schuchart was unstoppable at Volusia last February, recording a win with the All-Stars and World of Outlaws as the #1S scored a dominant DIRTcar Nationals title. The Hanover, PA native is back at the 1/2-mile to kickstart his 2022 season with Duramax aboard the new-look ride. After falling to fifth in the standings following a runner-up effort in 2020, the 30-time World of Outlaws winner is more motivated than ever to return to form.Jacob Allen is ready for a fresh 90-race slate and that’s exactly what he’ll get this week down in Florida. The son of Bobby Allen has a new look and new attitude in 2022 as his design pays tribute to his legendary father all year long. The #1A led the first eight laps of the season last year at Volusia and heads into this week eyeing a second career win.SOPHOMORE SURGE: After starting last year’s Rookie of the Year class with a stout foursome, only two of the drivers survived to make it to a sophomore season with the World of Outlaws.James McFadden of Alice Springs, NT, AUS returns for his second season, but in a new place as he joins Roth Motorsports to pilot the famed #83. J-Mac is coming off one of the best rookie campaigns in history with a pair of wins and a seventh-place championship effort in his lone year in the Kasey Kahne #9. He’ll retain Justin Adams as his crew chief as the duo goes their first Volusia victory together this week.Brock Zearfoss of Jonestown, PA brings the Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill #3Z back on tour following a trying, but rewarding freshman season. The 2017 World of Outlaws winner battled through the trials and tribulations of an 80-race run and hit paydirt in last year’s finale with a season-best of second at World Finals. He and crew chief Shane “Noisey” Bowers will try to keep that momentum rolling into 2022.WELCOME TO THE SHOW: The 2022 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award will be decided over the course of a grueling 88-race schedule between the three newest full-time drivers. The trio in contention for top rookie honors include:41-year-old Kasey Kahne of Enumclaw, WA fulfills a lifelong dream of joining the Series full-time in 2022. The former NASCAR Cup Series star will pilot his own Kasey Kahne Racing, Karavan Trailers, FuelMe #9 this year with his first-career win still on the line.23-year-old Spencer Bayston of Lebanon, IN moves to the potent CJB Motorsports #5 operation with Barry Jackson on the wrenches. From on the couch to in the seat, this former USAC Midget champion suddenly rekindled his career last year with two World of Outlaws wins and quickly proved he and CJB could be a lethal combination.18-year-old Noah Gass of Mounds, OK is diving into the deep end, set for a full-time bid with only 25 World of Outlaws appearances under his belt. He and crew chief Cody Cordell are focused on spending this year getting the teenager acclimated with different tracks, the grind of the schedule, and learning against the best of the best.As far as Volusia goes, Kahne & Bayston have previous experience but Gass will be going in blind during his debut. Kahne won a 2002 DIRTcar Nationals Feature with the All Stars, while Bayston is trying to top his personal best of 16th at VSP.VETERAN PROWESS: Behind Schatz, only two other full-time World of Outlaws competitors have 1,000 Features under their belt, and they’ve both won at Volusia Speedway Park.Jason Sides of Bartlett, TN is bringing the classic #7S back for a full slate in 2022. Double Down won a 2011 World of Outlaws show at the Volusia 1/2-mile.Kraig Kinser of Bloomington, IN has re-designed the #11K with a red flare to his Mesilla Valley Transportation ride. The 2005 Knoxville Nationals champion also scored a Volusia win that year in All Stars competition.ALL-STAR INVASION: With the All Star Circuit of Champions conducting Tuesday & Wednesday’s show at Volusia, you’ll see several of their top stars stay in town to compete with The Greatest Show on Dirt from Thursday-Saturday.Reigning ASCoC champion and Kings Royal winner Tyler Courtney will be in attendance with the Clauson-Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #7BC. KTJ has four World of Outlaws starts with one top-10 finish ahead of his Volusia debut this week.Kerry Madsen, who built a resurgent 2021 campaign with three World of Outlaws wins in the Tony Stewart #14, will drive the Sam McGhee Motorsports #11 all week long as a substitute for Parker Price-Miller as he continues his battle against Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.OFF THE PORCH: Three of the PA Posse’s finest have made their annual trip south to start the season at the DIRTcar Nationals.Myerstown, PA’s Brent Marks (7 career wins) will showcase his new Murray-Marks Motorsports #19, which won its first World of Outlaws attempt at the 2021 World Finals. Gettysburg, PA’s Danny Dietrich (5 career wins) has strengthened his Gary Kauffman Racing #48 operation ahead of the new season. Dillsburg, PA’s Anthony Macri will have three opportunities to score his first-career win this week. All three drivers set their Volusia career-best results last year with Marks running fifth, Dietrich finishing second, and Macri ending up 16th.WILD CARDS: Beyond the full-time Outlaws, the All Star regulars, and the Posse’s bunch, you’ve got your wildcard invaders to think about at the DIRTcar Nationals this week.Blackjack Brian Brown (5 career wins) is bringing his familiar FVP Parts, Casey’s General Stores #21 to Volusia with hopes of earning his first podium finish at the 1/2-mile.Clute, TX’s Aaron Reutzel (6 career wins) continues his stint in the RSR #8 with Tyler Swank on the wrenches. He’s a former All Star winner at Volusia, attempting to pass Gary Wright as winningest Texan in Series history.Giovanni Scelzi (3 career wins) will launch a hefty 60+ race schedule with the World of Outlaws this week as he returns to the seat of the KCP Racing #18 at Volusia, where he finished third last March.Sam Hafertepe Jr. (1 career win) is taking the #15H back to Volusia for the first time since leading the opening 25 laps and finished second in last year’s March visit to the 1/2-mile.Missouri’s Ayrton Gennetten and New York’s Paulie Colagiovanni, who each had breakout moments with the Series last year, will be making their Volusia debuts this week as they attend their first DIRTcar Nationals in Florida.

Cadillac previews Project GTP race car

Cadillac Racing will compete in IMSA’s new Grand Touring Prototype category in 2023
DETROIT (Feb. 9, 2022) – With Cadillac in the midst of defending its 2021 IMSA DPi Manufacturer Championship, the brand continues to prepare for its return to the world racing stage. Cadillac Design is in the process of shaping the forthcoming Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) race car and the future of Cadillac Racing.
Drawing from Cadillac’s previous racing success, the Cadillac GTP race car will be codeveloped by Cadillac Racing, Design and race car manufacturer Dallara. The prototype will feature a new Cadillac engine package in conjunction with the GTP common hybrid system.
Watch: Coming in 2023
“While the new race car will take into account IMSA and ACO regulations, Cadillac’s brand characteristics will be instantly recognizable, many of which are seen on our V-Series vehicles today,” said Chris Mikalauskas, lead exterior creative designer, Cadillac. “It will artistically combine form and function to influence the development of the forthcoming race car. Elements of Cadillac’s brand DNA, such as vertical lighting and floating blades, will be present throughout.”
Last year, Cadillac announced that it would compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Automobile Club de l’Ouest Grand Touring Prototype category in 2023 with a fourth-generation Cadillac V-Series prototype. Notably, this will mark the brand’s return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans after 21 years.
“Cadillac has a long history of performance success on and off the track, which drives excitement for our fans and customers,” said Rory Harvey, vice president of Cadillac. “That excitement was never more evident than last year when we saw extraordinary demand for the V-Series Blackwings right after they were revealed.”
Cadillac’s commitment to performance is embodied in the V-Series portfolio by incorporating technologies learned on the track into performance cars for the road. Its recent expansion includes the CT4-V and CT5-V sport sedans, the Escalade-V and the track-capable CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing.
The Cadillac Project GTP race car will be unveiled this summer, and make its debut in competition at the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January 2023.

Team Chevy NHRA drivers prep for season-opening race

Test in the West this week an important step leading into annual trek to Pomona
DETROIT (Feb. 8, 2022) – Austin Prock has competed in three National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Camping World Drag Racing Series Top Fuel events since November 2019.
Is he a bit anxious heading into preseason testing Feb. 10-12 at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Arizona? “I couldn’t be more excited,” the 2019 NHRA Rookie of the Year said.
Prock returns to the circuit in the Montana Brand Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet dragster as a teammate to 2021 Top Fuel championship runner-up Brittany Force at John Force Racing. He filled in for Clay Milliken at Norwalk last season and drove in two races to start the 2020 season before the team shut down on-track operations because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I have sat out for two years, but the rust will come out quick. It’s like riding a bike,” said Prock, who notched his maiden Top Fuel win at Seattle in ’19. “At Phoenix, it’s about getting more comfortable, just getting everything ironed out so we can go out there Q1 (in the opener) and go low ET. This (car) is going to be in contention for wins every weekend.” The season begins Feb. 18-20 with the NHRA Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in California.
Prock, 26, will be backed by the experience of co-crew chiefs Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler, who was enticed to come out of retirement to assist a family friend.  “I thought, ’how cool would it be to race with Austin.’ I’ve known him forever; I’ve known Jimmy (Prock, Austin’s father) for a long time. We’re very good friends on and off the track. I just thought it was a great fit.” Barlam, who was part of John Force’s BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car crew in 2021, characterizes Tobler as “an old-school racer with a lot of savvy.” He could be describing himself, too. “It’s going to be pretty exciting to see how this partnership grows,” said Force, who enters the season with 154 career Funny Car victories. He, Brittany Force in the Monster Energy/Flav-R-Pac Chevrolet dragster and Robert Hight driving the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car will also make passes this weekend.
Chevrolet Pro Stock drivers, including reigning champion Greg Anderson, 2021 NHRA Rookie of the Year Dallas Glenn and championship runner-up Erica Enders, will share track time during the test. “You can’t give up thousandths (of a second) in this class, and if you don’t get in a car before Friday at Pomona, you’ll probably mess up on the driving end of it a little bit, give up thousandths and give up qualifying spots. So, this is a way to get the drivers prepared, the teams and the engines absolutely what we think will be perfect before we get to Pomona,” said Anderson, who drives the HendrickCars.com Camaro SS.
The KB Racing team, which will support six full-season Pro Stock entries, made a few offseason car swaps. Glenn moves from the oldest model in the fleet to a newer Camaro SS.
“We have to get some runs on them. Kyle (Koretsky) and I are in the same cars, but we’ve made some engine changes – not major changes – but you have to go prove that out and find the right tune-ups,” said Anderson, who will be in pursuit of career win No. 100 at Pomona.
The sessions hosted by the Professional Racing Organization will be closed to the public except for Feb.12, when fans who have purchased tickets to the NHRA Arizona Nationals will have the opportunity to purchase

Force wrapped up 2021 second in the points standings after chasing down a second championship until the final race of the season. In the process, Force captured a win alongside her father in Topeka, Kansas and secured a career best 12 No. 1 qualifiers.
President of John Force Racing and three-time Funny Car world champion Robert Hight will continue to drive the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS with his tandem of crew chiefs Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham. Austin Prock will enter his second full-time NHRA season in the driver’s seat of the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist dragster with crew chiefs Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler. In 2019, Prock earned his first career victory with at the Northwest Nationals, joining the list of only 10 previous rookies to win in their first season. Prock also became only the 13th rookie to qualify for the Countdown to the Championship and finished the season eighth in points.
“We ended the 2021 season in a good spot. We had teams in contention for the championship and anytime that happens, as a team owner, it’s always good,” said John Force Racing CEO and owner John Force. “We are going to start 2022 with momentum and back to being a four-car team. Having Austin Prock back in the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist dragster with Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler, it’s going to have a positive impact on the whole team. It’s not going to be easy, but the teams we have will be willing to put in the work to make great things happen. We’re going after race wins and championships, that’s what we’re always going after. We have the people, the partners and the parts to make it happen.”
John Force Racing will take advantage of pre-season testing Feb. 10-12th at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona before the 2022 NHRA Camping Drag Racing season kicks-off with the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals Feb. 18-20th at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, Calif.

Dennis Erb Jr. Ends Seven-Year Lucas Oil Series Drought with Win at East Bay

Tampa, FL (February 7, 2022) – Dennis Erb Jr. ended a seven-year winless streak with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Monday Night by winning the 30-lap Wrisco Industries Winternationals Presented by Lucas Oil main event at East Bay Raceway Park. Erb’s last Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and East Bay win both came in February of 2015 when he drove a C.J. Rayburn Race Cars entry. Erb recovered from a slow start in the feature as he faded to fifth after starting on the outside front row by taking the lead on lap 19 from Brandon Overton. Hudson O’Neal, the Monday Night winner a year ago at East Bay, finished in second followed by Tim McCreadie, Shane Clanton, and Stormy Scott. Overton took the lead at the start of the race with O’Neal and Devin Moran trailing. Moran vaulted by O’Neal taking second on lap four as he set his sights on Overton. Overton and Moran are the only two drivers to win more than once this year on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour. Suddenly Erb started to gain momentum after dropping to fifth; he stormed back to second on lap 11 and battled with Overton for the race lead. Erb grabbed the point on lap 19, a lead which he held to the finish but not without some tense moments. Overton, who fell from the lead started to make moves using the top line of the track. Overton passed O’Neal to regain the second position on lap 25, but just as Overton had Erb in his sights he smacked the turn two wall, ending his night. For the 49-year-old second-generation racer from Illinois, it was his ninth career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory and his seventh career win at East Bay. “It feels really good to get back to victory lane here. We have struggled here in the past for a while. We run pretty good here tonight. I fell back a little bit but then our car started working real good and I was battling for the lead. I can’t thank everybody enough for their support. I want to thank Mark Richards and Steve Baker for their help.” “To get back down here and pick up another win is just a really good feeling. I would like to dedicate this win to C.J. Rayburn. I ran many races in his cars down here, it hurts not having him here this year. This win tonight is for him. I just tried to hit my marks there at the end, I knew I had a strong field behind us. The longer the race went the better my car was, and I didn’t want to see the cautions there at the end. At least we were able to hang on there.”  O’Neal was able to close on Erb towards the end of the race but cautions toward the end of the race kept O’Neal behind Erb at the finish. “We will take a second from how our night started. We were able to get up there to Dennis a couple of times and then a caution would come out or lapped traffic was up there. So, we will give it another shot tomorrow. Congratulations to him (Erb), Heather and Dennis do a heck of a job, I am happy they got this one.” McCreadie, the defending series champion, rounded out the podium after starting in 11th. “The restarts were tough; my car didn’t have instant grip. So, the last little but of the race I just tried not to mess up. I messed up one lap and Devin (Moran) got by me, and he showed me where I should be doing the whole time as far as getting through one and two.”  The winner’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored McBride Mack, Vomac Truck Sales, Performance Rod and Custom, Keyser Manufacturing, VP Fuels, and Ideal Ready Mix. Completing the top ten were Ricky Thornton Jr., Devin Moran, Tyler Erb, Brandon Sheppard, and Jimmy Owens.

Jesse Iwuji Motorsports and Chevrolet Team Up in NASCAR Xfinity Series

Jesse Iwuji and Emmitt Smith’s team will campaign Camaro SS starting in 2022   CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Jesse Iwuji Motorsports will field a Chevrolet Camaro SS in the NASCAR Xfinity Series starting in the 2022 season. The team is co-owned by Jesse Iwuji and Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith. Iwuji also will be the driver of the No. 34 Empowering People More Camaro SS. “There couldn’t be a more authentic manufacturer partnership for me than one with Chevrolet,” said Iwuji. “When I decided to pursue a professional racing career, I started getting seat time in my Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06, which I still own today. The story of going from the Navy to NASCAR and having my Corvette play a key part in that journey makes this partnership not only authentic, but inspirational for any person out there looking to accomplish big goals and dreams. This journey gives people hope and shows how much life truly rewards those who stay strong enough, long enough.” Iwuji attended the United States Naval Academy and is currently an officer in the Navy Reserve after serving seven years of active duty. He made five career starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2020-2021, and 15 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series from 2018-2021. “I’ve known Jesse for several years, and I love his passion, drive and persistence,” said Jim Campbell, vice president, Chevrolet Performance and Motorsports. “When Chevy learned of his aspirations to form a team along with Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, we looked forward to the opportunity to work together on and off the track. We are excited to announce this partnership and go racing in 2022 starting with Daytona.” Iwuji and Smith first met when Smith sponsored a car driven by Iwuji at a race in 2020. The pair helped start Jesse Iwuji Motorsports in 2021.  “First, our team could not be more excited about the partnership with Chevrolet because of what it means to our race team and fans as we get our footing in NASCAR,” said Smith. “It was vital to align to a manufacturer that not only provided us with the very best in technology but also believed in supporting Jesse, believed in the great men and woman that defend our country, believed in diversity, and believed in everything that our team stands for. Jesse Iwuji Motorsports is thrilled to have Chevy play a vital role in our mission to drive diversity, equity and inclusion in racing and join in the development of Jesse as he chases his dream.” Chevrolet will provide engineering support and guidance to Jesse Iwuji Motorsports and help develop team members. “We are excited to have Jesse and Emmitt join our Chevrolet racing family,” said Eric Warren, Chevrolet director of NASCAR Programs. “I respect that Jesse puts effort into continuously improving whatever he does. I grew up watching and cheering the competitive spirit of Emmitt. We will help guide this young team and provide engineering resources to accelerate them along the path to winning races.” Chevrolet won the NASCAR Xfinity Series Manufacturer’s Championship in 2021 for the 23rd time, more than any other manufacturer. It was Chevrolet’s seventh title since the Camaro SS became its flagship vehicle in the series in 2013. Team Chevy drivers won 15 of the 33 races last year. “The launch of Jesse Iwuji Motorsports continues an exciting trend of new team ownership in NASCAR and we wish Jesse, Emmitt and their new partners at Chevrolet great success in their inaugural Xfinity Series season,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR president. “It’s Chevrolet partnerships like this and many others that demonstrate its commitment to helping grow our sport.”   Jesse Iwuji Motorsports will run the full season, starting at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 19.
