ROBERT HIGHT AND AAA CHEVROLET TAKE POINTS LEAD WITH WIN NUMBER FOUR ON THE SEASON IN OHIO

NORWALK, Ohio (June 26, 2022) – Robert Hight and the AAA Ohio Chevrolet Camaro SS team take over the points lead with their fourth win of the season Sunday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park. Brittany Force and the Monster Energy Flav-R-Pac Chevy dragster had a semifinal appearance while Austin Prock with the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist dragster and John Force with the PEAK / BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevy had quarterfinal exits.
Coming in as the No. 3 qualifier making his 90th career final round appearance, Robert Hight defeated Bob Tasca III for his 57th career victory, first at Summit Motorsports Park. The AAA Ohio Chevy would rally to a 3.944-second pass at 327.51 mph for Hight’s fourth win of the season bettering Tasca’s 3.962 at 330.63.
“This is big. I’ve never won here. We come here almost every year and race in Night Under Fire, a huge match race where the Badder’s pack in all the fans. I’ve won that thing a lot, but I could never get it done here for the National event,” said Hight who has been to six of 10 final rounds this season. “I think this is awesome being able to cross this one off and get the points lead, it’s big. I am so proud of this AAA team. They have worked so hard. AAA Ohio and everybody behind us, Chevrolet, Cornwell Tools was here with us. I’ve had so much fun this weekend and we’ve had a great time, and I’m not ready for it to end.”
En route to the finals, Hight would defeat Jim Campbell in the first round with a 3.903-second pass at 326.24 mph to Campbell’s 4.093 at 311.85. The win set Hight up to run against Alexis DeJoria who would go 4.651 at 175.71. Hight would lay down a solid 3.997 at 311.92 mph.
In the semifinals, Hight would have a strong side-by-side drag race against J.R. Todd. Hight would prevail with another quality run at 3.890-seconds at 328.06 mph sending Todd and his 3.916 at 329.75 home.
Hight and the AAA Chevy now have a 21-points lead over Matt Hagan in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series points standings.
Brittany Force and the Monster Energy team came into race day in the No. 1 position and kept up their consistency in the first round running 3.774-seconds at 310.20 mph to pick up the win over Kyle Wurtzle when he ran into trouble to run only 8.548 at 87.22. Against Tripp Tatum in the second round, Force would take the Monster Energy dragster to a 3.765 pass at 329.75 mph bettering Tatum’s 3.810 at 318.47.
In the semifinals Force would lineup with class rival Josh Hart. Hart would run the second quickest pass of race day at 3.750-seconds at 328.94 mph and the Monster Energy dragster would come up shot with a 3.783 pass at 329.02 mph.
“Overall, our Monster Energy team had a good weekend at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. We earned our third No.1 qualifier of the season, set both ends of the track record with a 3.666 at 333 mph run, and made a semi-final round appearance on raceday,” Force said. “We have a couple weeks off to reset and get ready for the Western Swing. We kick it off starting in Denver and then head to Sonoma and Seattle. We plan to keep the rhythm we’ve held all year and get back in another winners circle.”
John Force and the PEAK Chevy continued to improve on their performance from qualifying in the first round of eliminations. The BlueDEF Camaro would lay down the best run of the event at 3.878-seconds and 333.41 mph while his competitor Bobby Bode ran a 4.121 at 244. 96. In the second round, Force’s Chevy Camaro Funny Car would put a hole out at the step hindering the BlueDEF car to run only 4.154 seconds at 271.52 mph falling short to J.R. Todd’s 3.953 at 329.34.
“Not a bad weekend for this PEAK Chevrolet team. We picked up quite a few qualifying points and we were strong through qualifying, even today, race day, we looked good,” Force said. “We dropped a cylinder out there, not sure why, but we’ll get it figured out and move onto the Western Swing. Good weekend for Robert and AAA over there getting the win and Brittany with Monster and Flav-R-Pac going No. 1. The Prock kid, they are pulling it together, he’s hard on himself so he’ll work at it and that Montana Brand team will be good.”
Austin Prock and the Montana Brand / RMT dragster started race day with a solo run after Clay Millican broke on the starting line. Prock would handle the Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler tuned dragster to a 3.836-second run at 256.65 mph after shutting off early. In the second round, Prock would face eventual runner-up Josh Hart. Hart would win on the starting line with a .038-second reaction time to Prock’s .063. Hart would cross the line at 3.813-seconds and 323.66 mph to get the holeshot win over Prock’s 3.808 at 321.81.
“We made good progress today on our Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist car and I messed it up. I was .063 on the tree and got picked off,” Prock said. “Definitely pissed for my guys. They’re doing a great job and we just can’t seem to get it done. I’ll go to work to try and improve to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Looking forward to the Western Swing here in a few weeks.”
The NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series continues at Bandimere Speedway for the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile-High Nationals July 15-17.

The battle for the Factory Stock Showdown world championship will continue Labor Day weekend at the U.S. Nationals.
Chevrolet teams will prepare for the annual Western Swing – three consecutive weekends of racing – starting July 15-17 at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado. Acura Sweeps Again With 1-2 Finish at Watkins Glen

Wayne Taylor Racing’s Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor Win Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen with late-race pass
Oliver Jarvis and Tom Blomqvist lead large portions of the six-hour endurance contest, and complete Acura 1-2 sweep in their Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05
Fourth 1-2 finish of 2022 for Acura in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 26, 2022) – For the fourth time in seven races in the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Acura led the way today at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, scoring a 1-2 finish, with the Wayne Taylor Racing duo of Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor in their Acura ARX-05 scoring their third win in the last four races.

Tom Blomqvist and Oliver Jarvis completed the Acura 1-2 sweep with a second-place finish in their Meyer Shank Racing ARX-05.

The two Acura teams traded the lead repeatedly during the first half of today’s race at Watkins Glen International Raceway in upstate New York, after the WTR team elected to go “off strategy” early in the race. As a result, each Acura team would turn the lead over to the other during their respective stops.

MSR appeared to get the upper hand in the contest in the fourth hour, exiting the pits ahead of WTR, and maintaining that lead until severe weather in the Watkins Glen area forced race officials to halt the contest with 90 minutes remaining. When the race resumed with just over 20 minutes to go, Albuquerque in the Wayne Taylor Acura was able to draft past Blomqvist’s ARX-05, and would maintain a narrow advantage to the checkers.

The result moves Wayne Taylor Racing, Albuquerque and Taylor to the top of the IMSA driver and team championship standings, with MSR, Blomqvist and Jarvis just 17 points back in second. The fourth win in seven races moves Acura to the top of the season-long Manufacturer standings; and also to the top of the top of the Michelin Endurance Cup, after three of four long-distance races on the schedule. MSR, Blomqvist and Jarvis also lead the endurance cup title chase for teams and drivers.

In the production-based GTD class, the #66 Gradient Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 driven by Till Bechtolsheimer, Mario Farnbacher and Kiffyn Simpson made up a number of positions in the opening hour in that hands of Bechtolsheimer, but was soon forced to go behind the wall with a mechanical issue and eventually retired.

Quotes
Filipe Albuquerque (#10 Wayne Taylor Racing ARX-05) Race winner, on his late-race pass for the victory: “It was crazy. I had to save fuel, so therefore I could not warm up the tires and the brakes before the restart. So, I had to restart with cold tires and brakes. I knew this [going into the “bus stop” chicane at the end of the long uphill Watkins Glen back straight] was the one and only shot to overtake [Tom] Blomqvist. I just put my foot down and we ended up side by side and I just ‘sent’ the car into the corner. It went over the curb and it ended up working.”

Tom Blomqvist (#60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05) Finished second: “It’s definitely a tough way to finish, especially after we were so strong all weekend. They [the WTR Acura] had an advantage all week in the first sector [of the track]. They were running less wing that we were, so they were quick there. It just meant we were vulnerable in our restarts. That time [the final restart], he was just a little bit closer. They were also way less on fuel, so they weighed like 15-20 kilos lighter, which also helped them. Luck was on their side today, but we had a perfect race. I mean, the team did a fantastic job for such a long race. We’ve had the quickest car all weekend long, but things didn’t fall our way. Obviously, I’m extremely disappointed for the team, who have been working hard all week. Thankfully, not long until the next [race].”

Lee Niffenegger (Program Manager, Honda Performance Development) on today’s 1-2 finish at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen: “It is a fabulous 1-2 at Watkins Glen, and our first prototype win here with the Acura ARX-05. Fantastic driving and fuel saving by both of our teams to finish first and second and hold off the competitors to collect vital manufacturers’ championship points. Both Wayne Taylor Racing and Meyer Shank Racing executed all race long, great driving, great pit stops—really important in a six-hour race. We’re so happy to have gone 1-2 in both the Rolex 24 to start the year and now here at Watkins Glen. It’s a great testament to Acura speed and reliability to dominate at these endurance events.”

Fast Facts
Prior to today’s 1-2 result and first overall win, Acura Motorsports has recorded five previous class victories at Watkins Glen, including three consecutive Camel Lights wins (1991-93) and GTD victories in 2017 and 2019.

Acura’s initial Watkins Glen success came in 1991, with Parker Johnstone taking the Comptech Acura Spice SE90P to the Lights class victory. In 1992, Johnstone teamed with Dan Marvin to repeat as Camel Lights class winner. Acura’s third consecutive class win came in 1993, as Bob Earl and Bob Schader paired up for the victory in their Brix Racing Acura Spice SE91P.

Katherine Legge and Andy Lally took their Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 to the GTD victory in 2017, marking the second consecutive race win for the pair that season and the second-win worldwide for the then-new NSX GT3 race program. Two years later, Mario Farnbacher, Trent Hindman and Justin Marks combined to claim GTD honors in 2019 for Meyer Shank Racing in their NSX GT3.

QUARTERFINAL FINISH FOR CAMRIE CARUSO AT NORWALK NATIONALS

NORWALK, OH (June 26, 2022) —- Camrie Caruso and the Kings of Vapor Chevrolet Camaro team were looking to add a Pro Stock national event win to their record to go along with the Top Alcohol Dragster win the 2022 rookie tallied in 2019 at Summit Motorsports Park. This weekend during the NHRA Summit Equipment Nationals Caruso and the Kings of Vapor Camaro once again had Titan Racing Engine power on display running to the No. 7 qualifier position. Her two best qualifying runs 6.582 and 6.667 seconds had the 24-year-old driver from Denver, North Carolina positioned to go rounds on race day.

Caruso’s first round match-up with Fernando Cuadra was a rematch of the Houston SoringNationals opening round where Caruso took the win as the No. 1 qualifier and raced to a runner-up finish. Today she recorded her second win light over Cuadra immediately as he jumped the tree and redlit. Caruso still cut a solid .041 light and powered down the track with a great 6.641 second run. It was her second quickest pass of the weekend and gave her lane choice over Kyle Koretsky in the quarterfinals.

Both young drivers are in the thick of the Pro Stock Top Ten points and Caruso was looking for her second semifinal appearance of the season. She once again was consistent off the starting line with a .041 reaction time combined with another good run from the Kings of Vapor Camaro tripping the finish line lights 6.676 seconds after she hit the throttle. Koretsky was nearly psychic off the line with a .007 reaction time and that was enough to get the win light. While Caruso continues to develop as a driver, races like the today only serve to motivate her.

“I am giving it my best every run,” said Caruso, who only has two first round losses this season. “This Kings of Vapor Camaro was great all weekend. Getting the first round win was important because it really helps us in the points. Kyle had a great light. I am happy my race car is consistent, and we are qualifying really well. We are a young team and I am looking forward to getting to the Western Swing. We are going to do some testing before the race in Denver and we will be ready for the Mile High Nationals.”

Caruso will be announcing a new sponsor for the Western Swing to add to the marketing partners supporting the Caruso Family Racing endeavor. The young driver is involved in all aspects of her team from building transmissions to driving to closing marketing deals. This season Caruso has built marketing partnerships with a host of companies including GESI, Right Trailers, Powerbuilt Tools, Sand Haulers of America, NGK Spark Plugs and VP Racing Lubricants.

“Our marketing partners are as important as win lights to be honest,” said Caruso. “We are trying to give them as much exposure on the track and with the fans as possible. Going rounds on races that are broadcast on FOX nationals is huge for our young team. We are building a marketing program that will support this race team but also build business to business relationships.”

The Caruso Family Racing Chevrolet Camaro will be back in action in during the Western Swing starting with the NHRA Mile High Nationals, July 15-17.

Early Exit at Norwalk Nationals for Justin Ashley

NORWALK, OH (June 26, 2022) — After back-to-back final round appearances including a win last weekend on Father’s Day at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals championship contending driver Justin Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy were upset in the open round at Summit Motorsports Park. The No. 2 qualifier was strong through two days of qualifying and rolled into race day with momentum and confidence. Facing Leah Pruett and her Tony Stewart Racing backed dragster Ashley was looking for his fifth win light in a row and third win of the season.

Cooler conditions blanketed the track as the Summit Equipment Nationals unfolded in front of a packed house. The 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year and four-time finalist this season grabbed a starting line advantage and was on the way to adding another round win to his 5-3 head-to-head record against Pruett when his dragster surprisingly slowed as it crossed half-track. When Ashley crossed the finish line with an elapsed time of 3.852 seconds the drop off in performance was attributed to tire shake and Ashley giving his 11,000 horsepower Phillips Connect dragster a quick pedal.

<_RXL1050.jpg>

Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy, photo by Ron Lewis Photography

“It was a little bit of a weird run,” said Ashley. “It put a hole out (dropped a cylinder) at the hit and it got out there and started shaking. It was in between the need to pedal and not pedal. I slapped it quickly and then got right back on the throttle. We didn’t accomplish our objective today, but we continued to learn and get better. Our hats off to Leah’s team, they did a better job.”

The art of pedalling a race car is something that cannot be practiced away from competition so Ashley takes the positive from today’s experience even if the outcome was less than desirable. The third-year driver after talking with crew chief Mike Green and reviewing the data knows now pedalling was not the answer.

“From a broader perspective it was a successful weekend in many ways,” said Ashley. “The car ran very well during qualifying and we made great use of the Lucas Oil hospitality area throughout the weekend. Now we can take the car back to the shop and get ready for

With two weeks off Ashley and his Phillips Connect team will gear up for the Western Swing. The three-race gauntlet will be a prime opportunity for the driver who is No. 4 in the Camping World Drag Racing Series point standings to highlight his marketing relationships with

Auto ShockerLucas Oil, and KATO Fastening Systems to a host of west coast fans.

CD RACING SCORES ONE-TWO FINISH IN MID-OHIO TRANS AM; BRABHAM WINS & DYSON EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP POINT LEAD

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (June 26, 2022) – In this weekend’s Mid-Ohio Trans Am by Pirelli race CD Racing duplicated its Memorial Day Lime Rock Park sweep of the top two steps of the podium. But this time it was Matthew Brabham, again subbing for Humaid Masaood, who climbed onto the top step and hoisted the winner’s trophy.

The first 75 miles of the 100-mile sprint race were as exciting and competitive as any in the series’ 57-year history. A blanket could virtually have covered the first three cars – Brabham’s #21 allgram Ford Mustang, Dyson’s #20 ALTWELL Ford Mustang and the pole-winning #2 Chassis/STEEL-IT Weaver Dodge Challenger of NASCAR regular (and Trans Am rookie, but Mid-Ohio veteran) Kaz Grala.

At the green flag (which at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for safety reasons is unfurled mid-way down the back straight) Brabham, who had started on the front row alongside Grala, made a bold move to take the lead through the first corner, with Dyson tucking into third place from his second-row starting spot. Brabham led the first lap, but Grala used the Dodge’s prodigious horsepower to blast past Brabham on the long back straight the next lap.

“This was actually our pre-race strategy,” Brabham said, following the race. “I was supposed to race Kaz hard, using up my tires to make Kaz wear out his, while Chris was saving his tires for the end of the race, when it would count.”

No Team Orders

And everything was going according to plan. At the three-quarters mark Brabham slipped past Grala for the lead and Dyson pulled up on the Challenger’s back bumper – just as the line to the Dodge’s oil overflow tank failed, spilling oil and filling Grala’s cockpit with smoke. Grala had no chance to get safely back to the pit and abandoned his car next to the track – unfortunately, at a dangerous location.

By the time the stricken Challenger was removed to a safe location the race had entered its final laps.

“My guys came on the radio and said Matty was asking if he should let me by on the restart,” Dyson said later. “I said no, he should go for it. Let’s go racing and have some fun. Just, if I’m faster, don’t block me. I didn’t want two wrecked cars. My tires were in better shape, and I think had the race run green all the way, I would have gotten by him.”

Indeed, Dyson was significantly faster and had caught Brabham after the race restarted with 5 tours remaining and was challenging his teammate for the win when a backmarker spun into the gravel, necessitating another caution. This meant a green-white-checker one-lap shootout would decide the race. Brabham managed to get a better jump on the restart and the team cars crossed the line astern, a scant .379 seconds apart.

“Matty got a good enough restart and around here, with just one lap, there was just not enough time to challenge him,” Dyson said afterwards. “But he did a stunning job again for the team this last weekend. Matty’s broad array of winning racing experience in everything from IndyCars to Super Trucks, makes him a superb competitor. In a teammate you can’t ask for more. I’m thrilled for the team today.”

Despite failing to win for just the second time this season, Dyson left Mid-Ohio with an expanded series title point lead. Cadillac claims third place in action-filled race at The Glen

No. 01 V-Performance Cadillac DPi-V.R earns podium finish in endurance race
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 26, 2022) – The No. 01 V-Performance Academy Cadillac DPi-V.R withstood an incident-filled first half and a dash to the finish following a second-half red flag for lightning to secure third place in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International.
Co-driven by Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande, the Cadillac Racing entry followed its win at Detroit with another solid performance.
The red flag flew with 86 minutes left in the six-hour race on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course, and the cars remaining from the 48-entry field took the green flag with 21 minutes left.
“A solid day for the 01 Cadillac. It was set up right, we did everything we had to give ourselves a chance,” said Bourdais, who challenged for second in the final turns and finished 2.267 behind the winning No. 10 Acura. “Everybody on the team did a great job and we’ll just keep digging.”
The No. 02 Cadillac Accessories DPi-V.R, co-driven by Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, placed fourth in the seventh round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship and third of four races in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.
Pipo Derani, Olivier Pla and Mike Conway overcame an early pit road penalty to finish fifth in the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course. Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson co-drove the No. 48 Ally Cadillac DPi-V.R with Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Rockenfeller to sixth place.
The No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R, co-driven by Tristan Vautier, Richard Westbrook and Loic Duval, incurred wing assembly damage in an on-track incident involving an LMP3 car with two hours left and finished seventh.
Cadillac Racing teams venture north for the 2-hour, 40-minute Chevrolet Grand Prix on July 1-3 on the 2.459-mile, 10-turn Canadian Tire Motorsports Park course. It’s the first back-to-back race weekend of the IMSA season and will be the first stop at the track in to Bowmanville, Ontario, since 2019. NBC will telecast the race at 3 p.m. ET July 3.
“We’re now moving on to CTMP. Looking forward to another high-speed track. We’ll take the trophy and take it from there,” van der Zande said.
Spectators and the TV audience got an early look at the 2023 CT4-V Series Blackwing Watkins Glen Track Edition, which served as the DPi pace car. Track Editions, which are inspired by Cadillac racing success at iconic IMSA racetracks, will be fully revealed at the end of July on cadillac.com. Sebring International Raceway and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will also be represented.
Cadillac Racing from the cockpit
No. 01 V-Performance Academy Cadillac DPi-V.R (third place)Sebastien Bourdais: “We were trimmed out, but we’re not just quite as fast as those guys on the fast, sweeping tracks. It’s a little frustrating. You do everything right. We’re winning the battle of the Cadillacs, but unfortunately it’s just not quite enough to win the race. We’ll keep digging and see what we can do next week in Canada. (The race) was very broken up for everyone at the beginning (with the caution flags) and then Renger had a very solid triple stint in the middle of the race, which had to be hard with the heat and everything. He hung in there and kept it in contention the whole time. As it is often here, it’s a game of track position. We never really got it.” Renger van der Zande: “I did three stints in a row, which around here is OK with a yellow but I had zero yellows, so it was very intense. It was like an endurance race to the max and when I came out, I was dizzy because of the high loads and being in the car for more than two hours. I enjoyed it. I think the Cadillac ran really well. Let’s move to the next race and take this result as a positive.” No. 02 Cadillac Accessories Cadillac DPi-V.R (fourth place)Alex Lynn: “Fairly uneventful race for us with a P4 finish. It was a tight race. I think we were pretty quick, but those other three cars were just a bit quicker than us. Congratulations to the sister car on the podium.” Earl Bamber: “We definitely had the two best Cadillacs fighting all day long for the podium. We’ll look forward to Mosport and hopefully, another good track for us. It was a really great job by everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing and can’t wait to get to Canada.” No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R (fifth place)Olivier Pla: ““I think we couldn’t do much more than we did today. We’re going to go to Canada and try to get a better result.” Pipo Derani: “We did what we could with what we had. It was a difficult race for us. We had to fight back from a penalty. But it is what it is. We’ll fight hard the next time around.”
Mike Conway: “They (Acuras) are fast and good on fuel. They were tough to beat today. But we did our best. It’s unfortunate we didn’t quite have enough. It was a tough one. At least we got some points, which is good for the team.”
No. 48 Ally Cadillac DPi-V.R (sixth place)Jimmie Johnson: “It’s great to be back in the Ally Cadillac. I was just trying to be smart; we’ve had a hard time getting to the finish. With the car count being so high, just taking my time, being easy out there. (About wearing glasses while driving): That’s being 46 (years old). Welcome to 46; it’s coming for you.” No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R (seventh place)Richard Westbrook: “It’s been a tough weekend for us chasing balance and the pace of it. Then I got whacked in the rear. He obviously didn’t see me. I was fully past him because he hit me in the rear wing. But it’s part and parcel to racing at The Glen, six hours, lots of traffic. It’s a shame because it put us back. We need to fight to get our pace back, which we had earlier in the season. We’re going to regroup and come back stronger. We never stop striving to improve. After having such a strong quarter of the year, it’s mentally challenging. I have full faith that we’ll get back to where we need to be.” Tristan Vautier: “It seems to be the same. The car seems to be better when the temps go down. You can look at the races this year – Laguna Seca, Sebring at night and Daytona – we were good and here we struggled until it got cooler after the red. We have to figure out a wider window of operation and then we’ll be there.”
Loic Duval: “We didn’t have the pace this weekend so you’re always on the back foot. It’s always harder to fight when you don’t have the pace. We tried to do something with the strategy because we came in with the lead in the endurance championship. We had a contact with an LMP3 car, and we had to change the rear end that put us two laps down. After the rain it was cooler and we picked up some pace to stay with the guys. This is something we have to look into. On to the next one for the guys.”

CORVETTE RACING AT WATKINS GLEN: No Late Luck at All

Late-race contact foils hard charge toward class podium, possible win for Garcia, Taylor
WATKINS GLEN, NY (June 26, 2022) – Nearly all the late-race luck went against Corvette Racing on Sunday in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. The No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R finished sixth in GT Daytona (GTD) PRO after the class’s fifth round in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
It was the first GTD PRO race since early May for Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, who were coming off a similarly disappointing result at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Corvette had crossed the line Sunday seventh in class but the class-winning car was sent to the back of GTD PRO due to a post-race drivetime violation.
The race’s first two hours saw five full-course caution periods which prevented any sort of rhythm. It wasn’t all bad for Taylor and the No. 3 Corvette team, though. Fuel savings and the crew’s usual sterling pit work gained Taylor two spots to fourth place on the first stop for fuel and tires.
Taylor stayed in the car for just shy of three hours. The fuel-saving strategy from Corvette Racing engineering offset a performance deficit and continued to provide benefits in terms of track position, as did a decision to take fuel only during a full-course caution period 90 minutes into the race. It netted the No. 3 C8.R another spot, and Taylor ran second as the halfway point approached.
Unfortunately things went south just shy of the three-hour mark when Taylor had to serve a drive-through penalty for exceeding track limits. Without the outright pace of the pursuing cars, Taylor had to maximize the boundaries of the track and hence the call from race officials.
Garcia drove the rest of the way and continued saving fuel while trying to produce as much pace as possible. The plan was working as Garcia was slowly but surely reeling in the class leaders who were on the same pit strategy until the severe weather warning stopped the race with 88 minutes to go and Garcia running fifth – still a positive gain from the Corvette’s starting position.
The race started back with 35 minutes on the clock. With the fuel situation dicey for a majority of the GTD PRO field, Garcia set out in search of a podium spot but was hit almost immediately by the No. 25 BMW, which was trying to overtake on the outside of the first corner. The contact caused one of the Corvette’s rear tires to go down and relegated the No. 3 to seventh.
The slow drive to the pitlane for four fresh tires grew more frustrating as the four GTD PRO cars ahead of Garcia had to stop for fuel inside the final five minutes, leaving the Corvette Racing team to wonder what might have been.
There is no rest as Corvette Racing immediately moves to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the Chevrolet Grand Prix, which is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 3. The race will air live on NBC and stream live on Peacock inside the United States and IMSA.com outside the U.S. IMSA Radio will air on-track sessions beginning with Saturday morning’s practice at IMSA.com with the race call also on XM 207 and SiriusXM Online 992.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – FINISHED SIXTH IN GTD PRO: “We deserved better today. We had a chance for a good result after the last restart until the 25 hit me right away. Without that, I think we definitely were on the podium and had a good chance to steal a win with most everyone else pitting late. The car felt really good and consistent. Full credit to the team for the improvements from practice and qualifying. I think we had maximized the car’s performance. But the result… none of us are happy at all.”
JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – FINISHED SIXTH IN GTD PRO: “We started toward the back and were able to pass some guys on some of the restarts. Plus we saved a lot of fuel and made up some positions in the pits; the guys really made some good calls and stops. So we were kind of maximizing where our strengths are. On track, we don’t have many strengths. We can hold guys off but can’t really drive forward on pace. That was frustrating, and the penalty was unfortunate. The only way to hold some guys off was to drive off the track a little. I was trying to maintain track position knowing that and not thinking they’d give us a penalty for it.”

Bill Skillman Captures Third Win and Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown Points Lead Sunday in Norwalk, Ohio

NORWALK, Ohio (June 26, 2022) – Bill Skillman and his Ray Skillman Ford Cobra raced to their third victory of the season, took back the points lead and claimed the $1,000 bounty Sunday at Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsport Park, the fifth stop on the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown schedule.

Skillman, the No. 1 qualifier, took on No. 2 qualifier David Barton and his Saw Mill Auto Chevy COPO Camaro in the final round. Barton would have the starting line advantage with a .009 reaction time to Skillman’s .067, but Skillman and his Ford Cobra would run down the Barton and his COPO Camaro. Skillman’s 7.810 -second pass at 177.07 mph defeated Barton’s 7.869 at 180.09 with a margin of victory of only .001-seconds.

“The car has been running really well. We are generating a lot of power,” Skillman said. “This team I have has been working hard and I am really proud of them. This was a big win for us.”

The victory sends Skillman around Barton in the Constant Aviation points standings and earns Skillman $1,000 for beating Barton, the most recent event winner, through the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown Bounty Program. Skillman will now carry the $1,000 bounty and it will increase until another driver defeats him during eliminations.

“It feels great to get that third win, but the points are still so close with three races left. That final was closer than I wanted it to be, but it was a great final round. A win is a win,” Skillman said. “I got the bounty, so I got a little bit of my money back. I am going to spend that bounty money on race car parts.”

On his way to victory, Skillman took down Lee Hartman, Dan Condon and David Janac before defeating Barton. Barton would get past Alan Scruggs, Ricky Hord and Ohio’s Mark Pawuk before reaching Skillman in the finals.

Final Result: Semi-finals

Two round wins and a close race in the semi-finals. How was the performance all weekend?

“The car went down the track every run this weekend, that’s something that we struggled with all season long – with just not being very consistent. We figured something out this weekend because we were making consistent runs, just a tick behind Robert there in the semis, but all-in-all a good weekend for our DHL Toyota GR Supra.”

RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME: Lee Inherits Lead After Hoffman Breaks to Win STL Firecracker Faceoff Finale at I-55

White flag. Nick Hoffman with a near two-second lead. And suddenly, the car shut off.

The four-time and defending champion appeared to be on his way to a dominating eighth DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals victory of the season Saturday night when his NOS Energy Drink #2 lost power going down the backstretch coming to the checkers and brought out caution.

Under yellow, now coasted past the start/finish line, his lifeless car was pushed back to the pit area, surrendering the lead to second-place Lucas Lee before a green-white-checkered restart to settle the race.

Lee took off at the drop of the green and brought it home for his fifth career Summit Modified victory in the St. Louis Firecracker Faceoff finale at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.

“When he slowed down, I thought he thought the checkered flag came out, and I thought, ‘Dude, we’ve got another lap,’” Lee said.

“I hate to win like that, but I was the next-fastest car.”

Back in the pits, a broken camshaft was the diagnosis from the Hoffman crew.

“I’ve had one break before, but I wasn’t racing; I was under caution, and it just shuts off,” Hoffman said. “First thing that went to my mind, it just shut off. It didn’t shake, it didn’t flutter, it doesn’t do anything. You just lose all ignition, basically.

“If it would’ve just made it to Turn 3, I probably would’ve made it back around and still won the race. It just wasn’t meant to be this weekend.”

Lee, of Paris, TN, had chances earlier in the race to gain on Hoffman and give him a run, but got held-up by traffic.

“He got pinned behind that lapped car and I started catching him,” Lee said. “I really got in there, and then he finally cleared that lapped car. Then, I got stuck behind him, but I felt like was there. “

Hoffman was beaten on-track Friday night by Rick Conoyer and Will Krup, when Hoffman said things just didn’t feel right with the car. He clearly had those issues worked out by Saturday, dominating the first 24 laps of the Feature, unchallenged.

“I think you’ve seen [the I-55 track surface change] a lot with the Late Model guys; they had to change their programs up too,” Hoffman said. “I talked to a lot of them guys to figure out which direction they were headed, and it was exactly the direction I wanted to go.”

SUPER SLIDER: Swanson Throws Big Slide Jobs for STL Firecracker Faceoff Win at I-55

PEVELY, MO – June 25, 2022 – With a deep dive into Turn 3 and his right foot down coming out of Turn 4, Jake Swanson completed a big slide job pass for the lead – one that would later earn him a big $6,000 paycheck as victor of the St. Louis Firecracker Faceoff finale.

“We really needed this,” Swanson said in Victory Lane. “We really needed a win; it’s been a really rough year.”

The Team AZ Racing pilot from Anaheim, CA, chased polesitter Mario Clouser around the high banks of Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 through the middle stages of Saturday night’s Xtreme Outlaw Sprint Car Series presented by Low-E Insulation Feature, hungry for his first victory in the tour’s inaugural season.

Running second after starting third, Swanson slowly closed the gap to Clouser, blasting the high line right in his trails. He originally tried the slide job one lap earlier on Lap 23 but did not have the momentum to slide up and make the pass. Three corners later, Swanson went in with the speed he needed, slid up in front of Clouser and won the drag race to Turn 1 to seal it.

Now with the lead and only 10 laps remaining, Swanson flipped on the afterburners, opening up a two-second advantage in five laps. However, he still had traffic in front, and at one point was nearly a part of a bigger accident after jumping the left-rear tire of Jack Wagner getting into Turn 1.

“It was a little sketchy there in lapped traffic,” Swanson said. “I don’t know if they didn’t see the blue flag or what.”

“We about went ass-over-teakettle into Turn 1 up there.”

Swanson recovered nicely, however, and cruised his No. 21AZ around the third-mile to the checkers, holding over a three-second lead.

Clouser held on for second, redeeming himself after getting into the wall while leading on Friday, while Whitz Racing Products Fast Qualifier Wesley Smith completed the podium.

THE SUN SHINES AT SKAGIT: COURTNEY CLAIMS DIRT CUP DEBUT AND HUGE PAYDAY WITh narc

(6/25/2022 – Alex Nieten) Burlington, WA… From the beginning of the week, it was clear Tyler Courtney was going to be a threat to win the 50th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in his debut in the event.

Making his first laps at Skagit Speedway on Monday, “Sunshine” won the Dirt Cup Tune Up. On his two prelims, Courtney passed a combined 25 cars in the main events to slot himself atop the standings heading into the finale by a wide 19 point margin. And then on Saturday night, he punctuated the week by claiming the 50-lap, $50,000 to win Feature aboard the Works Limited No. 57. Including lap money, Courtney pocketed $76,000, the richest payday in NARC history.

While it was technically Courtney’s second career NARC Fujitsu General Sprint Car win, it was his first with a wing on the car after he scored the wingless portion of the Anthony Simone Classic last year.

The night also marked crew chief, Paul Silva’s, first career Dirt Cup championship. Kevin Kozlowski’s No. 57 machine has now won three of the last five NARC races this season.

“I’m excited. That was badass,” Courtney said in victory lane. “What can I say? This is my first time to Skagit and got two wins out of four races… This is cool. Hopefully this event gets back to where it needs to be with Kevin (Rudeen) and Peter (Murphy) and everybody here at Skagit making it bigger and better.”

The green flag dropped with Courtney on the pole with the defending Dirt Cup champion, Dominic Scelzi, to his outside. Scelzi got the initial jump to lead the opening circuit.

About 10 laps into the main event Courtney found his first chance at the lead when Scelzi slid himself in turn one amid traffic. Courtney had a run on the top and looked to Scelzi’s outside, and the two nearly collided as Scelzi slid to the cushion before powering ahead off the corner.

A caution on lap 13 nearly brought disaster to Scelzi. Tyler Thompson slowed in turn four with an issue. The yellow flew, but Thompson’s issue forced his car to the left, almost into the path of the No. 41, but Scelzi managed to avoid him.

“Man, Dominic set a really fast pace there at the beginning,” Courtney said of the race’s early stages. “That’s what I wanted to do, but he just got the jump out of (turn) two there, and I got to following him there for a bit. I felt like we were better as the race went on.”

A few more cautions following the restart slowed the early pace of the race, but after a restart with 32 laps to go, the racing got wild.

Courtney looked low as the green initially flew but couldn’t make it work. It didn’t take long for him to rally, though, as the reigning All-Star champion closed back in on Scelzi in just a few laps. Finally, on lap 25, Courtney found the run and opening he needed, throwing a slider on Scelzi in turn one and leaving Scelzi no chance to crossover.

“We got him there in traffic, and then we got to kind of set our own pace,” Courtney said.

After completing the pass, Courtney wasted no time in speeding away at first. However, traffic soon impeded Courtney and allowed Scelzi to reel him back in. With just 15 laps to go, Scelzi tried a turn three slider but couldn’t get by, and the two nearly touched as they drove through turn four. Just as that happened, the yellow came out as Zeb Wise slowed. This caution period would become the open red for fuel and tires.

After the restart another small flurry of yellows slowed the race until the laps remaining count dwindled to just nine to go.

The restart with nine laps remaining saw Kerry Madsen and Scelzi begin to duke it out for second as Courtney capitalized by driving away. Madsen eventually came out ahead of Scelzi, but by that point Courtney was well ahead.

Courtney faced some traffic with just a few laps remaining, but none of it was enough to matter as Sunshine cruised to a three second win over Madsen and Scelzi.

“I want to thank Kevin Kozlowski for letting me come out and drive the car,” Courtney said. “And thanks to Paul, Hayden, Doug, and Tommy, everyone that worked on this thing all weekend made my life easy.”

Coming home second was Roth Motorsports driver, Kerry Madsen. The Mad Man owns a World of Outlaws victory at Skagit but was, like Courtney, making his Dirt Cup debut.

“I just wanted to drive my ass off and try to win $50,000 but came up one spot short in second,” Madsen said. “I probably needed another restart to throw a Hail Mary, but who knows? I really just want to thank Roth Motorsports for working so hard lately.”

Completing the podium after leading the first 24 laps was Dominic Scelzi in the Red Rose Transportation/Whipple Superchargers No. 41. “The Dominator’s” efforts earned him a payday of $42,000.

“He (Courtney) could get off of (turn) four really good. He could get off on turn (turn) two really good,” Scelzi said. “They were just a little bit better in the drivers seat and the race car, but it’s by far my biggest payday for a one night race, so that’s pretty cool.”

DENNIS DOUBLES UP: Erb Sweeps St. Louis Firecracker Faceoff at I-55T

The Carpentersville, IL driver scored his 13th career World of Outlaws win and 25th DIRTcar Summer Nationals TriumphPEVELY, MO– JUNE 25, 2022 – If former Major League Baseball catcher Yogi Berra was watching Dennis Erb Jr. Saturday night, he’d probably repeat his famous line, “It’s like Déjà vu all over again.”Along with winning for the second straight night at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 to sweep the inaugural St. Louis Firecracker Faceoff, Erb also pulled the same move he did Friday night to win Saturday. This time the Carpentersville, IL driver used the same move in Turns 3 and 4 to take the lead from Jason Feger and drive away with the $20,000 payday. Erb went unchallenged in the final 27 laps to best the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models and DIRTcar Summer Nationals fields for the second straight night with Bobby Pierce, in second, and Jason Feger, in third, rounding out the podium. “We were just riding out there and following [Feger] for a little bit,” Erb said. “I knew we were starting to get into traffic, and I was trying to watch him and see how he was entering the corner. He just went in there and gave me enough room to sneak up underneath him.” Erb’s win is his fourth World of Outlaws CASE Late Models victory of the season – the most of all drivers. It’s also his 13th overall career Series triumph and his 25th DIRTcar Summer Nationals win.  While Erb was able to move past Feger for the lead early in the race, he was still left with having to maneuver through traffic in the remaining 27 laps. He stated that being aggressive was important, knowing the caliber of drivers behind him. “I knew we had a good group behind me there, so there was no time to relax,” Erb said. “We just had to make our marks and watch the cars in front of us. You just really can’t back off because you never know what’s going to happen.” Erb extended his points lead for the second consecutive night—144 points ahead of Max Blair, who finished 11th.  Feger, who led the first 27 laps, was passed by Pierce for second and had to settled for third. The Bloomington, IL driver stated he couldn’t get the car to stick to the bottom the way he wanted, allowing Erb and Pierce to slip by.  “I just felt like I was too tight to keep it down there,” Feger said. “I couldn’t get rotated. I couldn’t like, enter in on the bottom and get rotated.  “I kind of based everything off of [Friday] night and how the track raced. I thought there’d be enough speed to go there, which there was, but instead of all the lap cars being on the bottom, they were in the middle. So, it just kind of made it hard to pass, and [Bobby Pierce] and Dennis could rotate the bottom better than I could.” Pierce made his way to second from eighth. He snuck by Feger on the bottom late in the 55-lap Feature but didn’t have enough time to catch Erb. The “Smooth Operator” tried multiple lanes throughout the first 30 laps before settling on the inside line.  “I was searching a little bit, and the top wasn’t really there like it normally is in the past,” Pierce said. “It’s not even like the bottom had that much moisture. The top was just so slick and crumbly. There wasn’t enough bite up there to really get anything going, so it is what it is. “But hey, coming from eighth to second, catfishing like that and scraping the inside wall, we’ll take it any day.” Pierce also extended hisDIRTcar Summer Nationals points lead, beating out Ryan Unzicker, who finished ninth.  Shannon Babb crossed the line fourth, climbing as high as third before fading in the race’s late stages. The Moweaqua, IL driver was happy with his car and enjoyed racing against his Midwest rivals.      “Overall, it was a really good race,” Babb said. “Running around the inside wall with Bobby and Feger and Gordy [Gundaker] and everybody. So, I consider it a pretty good race.” Gundaker rounded out the top five, his third World of Outlaws CASE Late Models top five of the season.  “I just missed a little bit on the setup, and that’s the way it goes,” Gundaker said. “When you run fifth in a crowd of 47 race cars and a bunch of really, really good guys are here, there’s nothing to hang your head about.  “We’ve definitely had our ups and downs so far this year, and this is definitely an up. So, we’re going to take this weekend in stride and hopefully keep the momentum going.” The highly-anticipated faceoff between the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models and the DIRTcar Summer Nationals ended with Erb proving why he’s one of the most successful drivers in both series, further solidifying that with a sense of Déjà vu. UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws CASE Late Models head North to Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, IL, on Sunday, June 26, for the Wild Man Kelly Classic, as part of the JB Hawks Summer Spectacular. JAW-DROPPING: Sheldon Haudenschild Stuns ‘Em for $100,000 Payday on Last Lap at Huset’s Speedway

NOS Energy Drink #17 Drove 3rd-to-1st on Final Lap with Spectacular Outside Pass

BRANDON, SD – June 25, 2022 – In fitting fashion, Sheldon Haudenschild did what no other driver dared to do with $100,000 on the line Saturday night at Huset’s Speedway’s inaugural High Bank Nationals.

Running sixth with four laps left, many assumed the Stenhouse Jr. / Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17 had no shot at the big payday. But if there is anything to have been learned through 45 years of World of Outlaws history, it’s that you never, ever count a Haudenschild out.

Taking a page out of the book written by Hall of Fame father, Jac, Sheldon throttled up and ripped the “Haud Line” around the outside of Brad Sweet for fifth, then Carson Macedo for fourth, then David Gravel for third, and that was only the beginning of his miraculous charge.

With the white flag waving, Haudenschild went to the faithful cushion one last time and made a two-for-one move, storming by both Buddy Kofoid and James McFadden in one swift swing to steal the $100,000 paycheck out of turn two on the 40th and final lap.

With the entire crowd on their feet in disbelief, the 28-year-old Wooster, OH native crossed the checkered flag to claim the biggest win of his life. Collecting his thoughts in victory lane, The Wild Child’s Child could only express his gratitude for the Stenhouse Jr. / Marshall Racing team that has believed in him for five years now.

“I don’t even know what to say,” Haudenschild thought. “[Kyle] Ripper is the man. This would not be possible without Ripper. He’s been there from the start for me, and I can’t begin to tell you how thankful I am for him and everybody that took a chance on me. Lauren [Albano], Ricky [Stenhouse], Richard & Jennifer [Marshall] trusted me from the beginning. I was a rookie with zero wins and they hired me, and that was five years ago now.

“We’ve been putting in the work for a long, long time. This wasn’t an easy week for us, but we never gave up. I thought what the hell, I had nothing to lose there at the end. I realized my tire was holding on and remembered it wasn’t a points race, so I figured I had to send it.

“I honestly almost gave up on myself when Brad [Sweet] got me and pushed me out of the top-five. I just started sending it into the cushion and realized this is what we had been doing all week long, passing cars. I think it was a blessing in disguise with how much we had to work because we learned how/when/where to pass guys while most of these cars were up front all week.”

Long before Sheldon’s breathtaking last-lap heroics, Carson Macedo controlled the opening 34 laps of a rather calm battle at the front aboard the Jason Johnson Racing, Albaugh #41. However, the business quickly picked up in the latter stages of the race as Budd Kofoid and James McFadden took him three-wide for the race lead on Lap 35.

Kofoid, who won his first-career World of Outlaws race on Thursday, briefly held the top spot while sneaking below Macedo in his Crouch Motorsports #11. It didn’t last long, though, as McFadden blasted the outside in the Roth Motorsports #83 and barely beat Kofoid to the stripe by 0.041-seconds.

While Macedo faded, it appeared to be one-vs-one for the paycheck between McFadden and Kofoid, but they were snookered on the final lap as Haudenschild went full send on the cushion and took it through turns one and two to pass them both.

Ultimately, McFadden finished 0.671-seconds behind Haudenschild on the dramatic last lap and claimed $30,000 for his runner-up efforts. It was his second, second-place finish of this week, this one in the most heartbreaking of fashions as $100,000 and his first win of the season slipped through the Australian’s grasp.”

“I’m just disappointed,” a dejected McFadden said. “I got the lead when it started taking rubber I thought I should just play it safe in traffic, but I should’ve known better. We really needed that win for myself, this team, and Dennis & Teresa [Roth]. Second is alright, but leading to the last lap for $100,000 and losing it just sucks. We’ll keep putting ourselves in this position to contend for wins and they’ll eventually come.”

Capping off a career week in third place was Buddy Kofoid in the Crouch Motorsports #11 with $20,000 in earnings. The Penngrove, CA 20-year-old opened many eyes this week against The Greatest Show on Dirt.

“Besides losing $80,000, I guess third isn’t too bad,” Kofoid kidded. “All in all, what a week for us. Brad [Alexander], Blade [Kearns], and I have run less than 10 races together and now we’ve won, ran fourth, and finished third in my first real big World of Outlaws race. It kind of stings, though. I got by Carson and thought I could really win, but then I had to fight James, and in the middle of that Sheldon somehow snookered us both on that last lap.”

Rounding out the top-five at Huset’s was David Gravel in the Big Game Motorsports #2 with a $15,000 payday, and early leader Carson Macedo collecting $10,000 for a fifth-place finish in the Jason Johnson Racing #41.

Closing out the top 10 on Saturday was Brad Sweet, Brock Zearfoss, Giovanni Scelzi, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Jacob Allen.

Tim McCreadie wins Second Career Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway

Sarver, PA (June 25, 2022) – Tim McCreadie took the lead at the start of the 16th Annual Firecracker 100 Presented by Big River Steel on Saturday Night at Lernerville Speedway. The reigning Series Champion never looked back in taking the $50,000 victory in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event.  Even though the margin of victory was only 0.459 seconds in front of Brandon Overton at the finish line, McCreadie had total control over the event for most of the distance. McCreadie had a close call on the final lap with lapped traffic and that allowed Overton to close the gap in a hurry, which at one point was more than half a straightaway out in front. Overton, the two-time and defending race winner was looking to tie Scott Bloomquist for the most wins in the event’s history by cutting more than 2 seconds off McCreadie’s lead but fell just short of stealing the win away. Mike Marlar, who was looking to become the first driver in nine years to win all three nights at Lernerville for the Firecracker weekend came from his seventh starting position to finish in third after winning both Thursday and Friday night preliminary races.  Brandon Sheppard, the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader finished in fourth and four-time Series Champion Earl Pearson Jr. rounded out the top five drivers at the finish.  McCreadie, whose lone win in the crown jewel event was in 2019 when he drove the K&L Rumley #6 to victory, jumped to the lead at the start of the 100-lap event with Sheppard taking the second spot. It was a close battle up front with Pearson making it a three-car race for the lead early on. Pearson moved past Sheppard for second on lap five and stayed there until Sheppard returned the favor on the 11th circuit. With McCreadie seemingly in control of the race his lead was shrinking as he was maneuvering through heavy lapped traffic. Sheppard had cut his lead down to where he was just two car lengths behind McCreadie when the caution flew on lap 57. On the restart Overton was the benefactor as he got by Sheppard on lap 61 to take the second position.
By lap 64 Marlar was around Sheppard to take third as the current points leader fell to fourth. McCreadie built what looked like an insurmountable lead as he was on cruise control. Heading to the white flag lap McCreadie had an issue in turn four with traffic that allowed Overton to make a run at him on the final lap but fell just short of the win. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season not only did McCreadie pick up one of the biggest paydays of his career, but also took another slice out of Sheppard’s points lead in the battle for the $150,000 to win season championship. “Like I said earlier, racing this close to home for me all of these fans up here are people I used to see out at the band. I love this place this is a big win for my team. I want to thank Donald and Gena Bradsher for giving me this chance, Philip Snellen my crew chief, and all of my crew guys; they work their tails off every week to give me a great car to drive and it was pretty much flawless tonight.” With the win McCreadie becomes the fourth different winner in the four $50,000 to win races for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this year; joining Chris Ferguson (Show-Me 100), Jonathan Davenport (Historic 100), and Chris Madden (Mountain Moonshine Classic) on the win list. Overton, who finished second earned a $20,000 payday for the Wells Motorsports team, has finished on the podium each time in the three $50,000 to win events he has participated in with the series in 2022. “I probably needed a little cleaner racetrack. It took me forever to get around the lapped cars. Man, if I can’t win, I am glad that Timmy did. He’s a really great guy and I enjoy racing with him. It was another good night for us, and we will take it.” Marlar was trying to do something that no one has done since Josh Richards in 2013 and that was sweep the weekend. Rounding out the podium in third Marlar earned a $10,000 paycheck. “We had a great weekend, there were nearly 60 cars here, it’s a huge race, lots of competition so to be on the podium all three nights and to win two of them I don’t think anybody would have not wanted those results.” It was the first time the Firecracker 100 has been sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and it drew one of the largest crowds to ever witness a series event in its history. The 56 cars that participated all 3 days was the largest car count for the event since 2013. The winner’s Donald and Gena Bradsher-owned Paylor Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, Mega Plumbing HVAC, Armslist.com, New Point Lighting and Design, Bilstein Shocks, Racing for Heroes, The Aesthetic Haus, SCT, Walker performance Filtration, and Baker Mitchell Company. Completing the top ten were Ricky Thornton Jr., Garrett Alberson, Daulton Wilson, Gregg Satterlee, and Mark Whitener.

Robinson Comes Up Huge in Lima Half-Mile

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 25, 2022) – A rejuvenated Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) earned his first victory of the 2022 Progressive American Flat Track season in Saturday’s Mission Lima Half-Mile at the Allen County Fairgrounds in Lima, Ohio. Over the few several seasons, Robinson has established himself as the Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle rider most likely to steal the occasional win away from class dominators Jared Mees (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) and Briar Bauman (No. 3 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750). However, on this night, Robinson had to overcome the challenge of the series’ newest star in Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) to get to the checkered flag first. The rookie looked to be the race favorite prior to the Main but gave himself a big task by getting shuffled down from pole to sixth at the start. So instead, it was Daniels’ teammate, JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT), who took point early on despite searching for pace all day long. Beach actually gapped the field by nearly a second in the early going before the likes of Robinson, Bauman, Mees, and Daniels really got rolling. Robinson was the first one by and built up a one-a-half-second lead of his own by the time Daniels arrived in second with some six minutes remaining on the clock. The Yamaha pilot steadily ate away at that gap, drawing near enough to crisscross in front of Robinson momentarily with his low-to-high line with less than three minutes remaining. The Mission Roof Systems rider was up for the challenge, adjusting his line to tighten his grip on the race. Daniels eventually conceded, allowing Robinson to secure the win with a 2.766-second margin of victory. The breakthrough was Robinson’s second Lima triumph, the first coming back in 2016. Afterward, he said, “We needed this. This year has been an absolute struggle for us… My team hasn’t given up, and they gave me a great motorcycle. All the guys pitch in and make this fun. Man, I needed this big. I can’t wait to go to the next one now.” Reigning champion and current points leader Mees worked his way past Bauman late to round out the podium, while Beach came home in fifth behind the two works Indian runners. Mees’ championship advantage was reduced slightly as a result; he now leads Daniels 139-127, while Bauman (115) and Beach (112) remain solidly in contention. Bronson Bauman (No. 37 Latus Motors Racing Harley-Davidson XG750R) finished in sixth just ahead of Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) and Davis Fisher (No. 67 Bob Lanphere’s BMC Racing Indian FTR750). Cory Texter (No. 100 G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing Yamaha MT-07) was the top Mission Production Twins Challenge entrant in ninth, while Brandon Price (No. 92 Pro One Industries/Mission Foods KTM Duke 890) rounded out the top ten in his first ride aboard the KTM. Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines In recent weeks, defending Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines champion Cory Texter (No. 1 G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing Yamaha MT-07) has been quietly keeping his hopes for a third and final class crown alive by clawing his way to gritty seconds, thirds, and fourths on nights he just didn’t have the speed to contend for the win. Texter was anything but quiet on Saturday night at Allen County Fairgrounds, however, registering a lopsided victory to narrow the gap to title leader Jesse Janisch (No. 33 Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R) to just a single point (132-131). Texter, Janisch, and Ben Lowe (No. 25 Mission Foods/Roof Systems Harley-Davidson XG750R) exploited the multiple nature of the circuit to each take a turn at the lead on the opening lap of the Main Event. But by lap two, Texter had seized control and he would never relent. Janisch both kept Texter honest and minimized the damage with a steady ride to second at a track he’s never completely gelled with. The win was Texter’s second of the season and his (and Yamaha’s) first ever at Lima. He said, “I’ve been coming here since I was two years old – maybe younger. Last year, I was all angry on the podium. I knew I could do better here. I rode really hard at the beginning and then just brought it home. This is my last Lima, and this is one I’m going to miss. It’s such an iconic track. It feels amazing to finally win here.” Billy Ross (No. 109 Mission Foods/Roof Systems Harley-Davidson XG750R) proved his win at Laconia was no fluke by following up that maiden victory with a second-career podium. It didn’t come easily, however, as he only just managed to fend off a charging Cameron Smith(No. 34 Thee Cathy Gray/Al Barker Yamaha MT-07). Smith, who boasted terrific speed all day, encountered unwelcome bike issues just prior to the start and was forced to move to the back of the grid. Despite that, Smith powered through the pelting roost of the field to finish in fourth, just over a half-second back of the box. Cole Zabala (No. 51 Memphis Shades/Corbin/Vinson Yamaha MT-07) finished another two seconds back, equaling his best finish of the year in fifth. Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER With each successive race, Kody Kopp (No. 12 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-FFE) continues to further the case that he’s the odds-on favorite to claim this year’s Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER crown. At Lima, Kopp scored a second consecutive blowout victory, his fourth win among six top-twos in just seven attempts this season. The emerging superstar gapped the field within a single lap and then piled it on from there, ultimately winning with more than four seconds in hand. Kopp’s mastery was reminiscent of that of his father, 2000 Grand National Champion Joe Kopp, who won at the circuit three times. The secret? Kody said, “Holeshots win races here, especially in this Lima pea-gravel. So we did our job and got a good start, and that’s pretty much all we had to do, honestly.” While there was little drama in deciding the podium, the race still proved to be a spectacular showcase for the future stars of the sport. Joining 17-year-old Kopp in the spotlight were a pair of 16-year-old phenoms. Australian Tom Drane (No. 359 Construction Supply Specialists/ICCONS KTM 450 SX-F) earned a remarkable runner-up result in his Progressive AFT debut while Rookie of the Year hopeful Chase Saathoff (No. 106 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) scooped up his second consecutive third-place finish. No other rider finished within 16 seconds of the runaway Kopp. Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) came home fourth, while James Ott (No. 19 MediaHT/G&G Racing KTM 450 SX-F) won out in a tight scrap for fifth ahead of Trevor Brunner (No. 21 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) and Morgen Mischler (No. 13 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R). As a result of Kopp’s win and Mischler’s seventh, Kopp now boasts a rather hefty 31-point advantage (155-134) in a quickly tilting title fight. The Mission Lima Half-Mile will premiere on FS1 on Sunday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. ET/8:00 a.m, PT, including exclusive features, cutting-edge aerial drone and onboard footage, and expert commentary. Next Up: The 2022 Progressive AFT season picks right back up next weekend with the Mission New York Short Track presented by Mad Max Indian Motorcycle at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, New York, on Saturday, July 2. Bill Skillman takes No. 1 and First Round Win in Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown at Norwalk, Ohio

NORWALK, Ohio (June 25, 2022) – Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown is keeping the rivalries between the  Chevrolet COPO CamarosFord Cobra Jets and Dodge Challenger Drag Paks alive at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsport Park.

Sitting second in the Factory Stock Showdown points standings, Bill Skillman in his Ray Skillman Ford Cobra secured the No. 1 qualifying position thanks to a 7.811-second pass at 177.42 mph in the second qualifying session. On Saturday morning, Skillman would be looking to do some testing to get set for the first round of eliminations later in the day.

“We ran pretty good. That last pass, we just ran and plugged it into high gear and then threw it into neutral to coast the rest of the way down,” Skillman said. “We just wanted to see what those early numbers looked like. We weren’t the fastest, but we were right up there.”

Skillman faced Lee Hartman and the Carrier Services Group Dodge Drag Pak in the first-round Saturday evening. Skillman would run 7.882-seconds at 175.80 mph bettering Hartman’s 7.981 at 177.49.

“It’s pretty odd, running qualifying and first round on the same day,” Skillman said. “We do it regularly, though, so you get used to making a qualifying run and then cutting down to eight cars.”

Most recent event winner and points leader David Barton landed his Saw Mill Auto Chevy COPO Camaro in the No. 2 qualifying spot with a 7.825-second run at 177.42 mph. Barton would line-up against Alan Scruggs and his BILSTEIN/Wesley Motorsports Dodge Drag Pak to start eliminations after Chuck Watson’s Dayco Ford Cobra machine was unable to make the call. Barton would prevail with a 7.877-second pass at 175.43 mph defeating Scruggs’ 8.098 at 173.96.

With the first round win, Barton continues to carry the $1,000 bounty through the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown Bounty Program. The bounty on Barton will increase until another driver defeats him during eliminations.

“It was warmer today, but I didn’t think it was any quicker or slower. The correction factor showed the same. It was nice to make a couple good solid straight passes today. We picked up a couple,” Barton said. “It is always exciting to try and get someone’s bounty. I’ll be honest, it was the last thing on my mind tonight. I wanted to win first round so I could sleep better tonight. I wanted to move on into tomorrow with a win tonight.”

Skillman, who had a $2,000 bounty on his head in Bristol, is hoping he gets a chance to collect for himself.

“I have to get him (Barton) in the finals,” Skillman said. “Which is what I am looking forward to tomorrow.”

The battle between Chevrolet COPO CamarosFord Cobra Jets and Dodge Challenger Drag Pakscontinues with the second round of eliminations at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
