Live coverage can be found on the USA Network, the NBCSports Gold App, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90. TEAM CHEVY POST-RACE NOTES AND QUOTES:AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 BREZTRI CAMARO ZL1 – Race WinnerAustin Dillon, welcome to the Playoffs. More gratifying to do it this way by racing for it versus the rain?“100%. Crazy faith. My wife was in there. She was dancing in the rain. I got upset. I said, ‘Don’t be doing that’. She said, ‘Lord, when you have faith like me, you don’t have to worry about it.’ I was like, Okay, okay. I got you, baby. But Ace was back there with me. We were watching Paw Patrol, watching the Carolina Cowboys winning the PBR event. They said, get ready. We stayed ready. And I have to thank my teammate Tyler Reddick, BREZTRI, Bass Pro Shops, everybody that makes this thing happen. Dow, who has been with me since my start. We have so many great partners. Chevrolet, Chevrolet, Chevrolet. Man, we’re in the Playoffs.” Also what will be talked about is the move to get the lead. Walk me through going into turn one with Austin Cindric.“There was a lot going on there. I knew that if we got to the white; I was afraid that if I waited too long, I was afraid somebody would wreck behind us, so I wanted to go ahead and get the lead. We were able to get it. I had a big run to him and then I had my teammate, the 8 (Tyler Reddick), back there. I knew we were in good shape there to the end. He did a good job checking up any kind of run. Just a little too much push there and got him loose.” How hard was it to stay patient there? I know Pop Pop told you on the radio, ‘Hey, don’t go until the white flag lap. I knew you wanted to go earlier.’“I felt like I had good teammates and Chevrolet behind me. If I could get the lead, the 2 would not be able to hold onto the draft. We’ve done it in practice enough to know that you’ll lose the tail and it’s hard to get back to it.” How crazy is it that a body of work of a season, Austin, comes down to getting back on the lead lap right before a rainstorm, dodging a wreck, and then making this happen in the final 21 laps?“It’s crazy. You just never give up and have faith. We had some tough finishes this year, like Charlotte. I beat myself up over that. I made a good move and just didn’t finish it off. Today we finished it off.I’m so proud of these guys and I’m glad to be going to Victory Lane.” TYLER REDDICK, NO. 8 CHEDDAR’S SCRATCH KITCHEN CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 2ndYOU AND AUSTIN WENT 1-2 TODAY. WHAT WERE THOSE LAST 21 LAPS LIKE?“Because we had to pit before pit road was open, before the rain came; I never got to line up behind all the lead lap cars when they started to pull up for the restart. I knew I was going to have to try really, really hard on that restart. Thankfully, the 18 and some of those cars let us go and we were able to get in the mix. Just had to fight really, really hard when everyone singled out and there weren’t many cars left at the end there and tried to get to Austin (Dillon). I knew he was going to need some allies there at the end of the race to go make the move on the 2. As it just kind of turned out, he didn’t really use his teammates for that move, but after everything kind of happened with the second pack catching us, I was really glad to be on his rear bumper to pretty much keep anyone from really creating that energy to pass the lead car. A lot of energy comes from that second car and when you have a teammate in that position to be that car absorbing those runs, you can really kind of control what is happening in front of you.” LANDON CASSILL, NO. 77 VOYAGER: CRYPTO FOR ALL CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 4thYou just said this is awesome; how awesome is it? “It really is awesome. We were sitting in a good spot with the rain delay; and even if they would have called it, we would have been happy with that finish. But we wanted to race for it and earn the top-five finish at the end. We did have to survive. There were a lot of fast cars that weren’t in contention at the end, but it’s pretty cool to see the checkered flag that close.” How were you able to stay clear? “I don’t know. I have done a lot of these races, so I feel like I know where to be to try and stay out of trouble. Sometimes in superspeedway racing, you just never know. I missed a couple of really big wrecks, made some good decisions, and the team did a good job of putting together the whole strategy today.” NOAH GRAGSON, NO. 62 BEARD MOTORSPORTS / SOUTHPOINT CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 5thThis was the little team that could and you found your way up into the top-five today. Tell us about that run. “It was strong run for this team, considering that we have one employee at Beard Motorsports. To come home with a top-five, that is big for us. We were in a good spot running third there when the 2 was out front and the 3 was running second. It seemed like the 2 got loose and started down the racetrack and it was a hell of a save by Cindric, but that killed all our momentum. We were in a four-car breakaway; I thought I was going to set myself up to be in a pretty good spot and it just didn’t transpire. We had to regroup and come back for a fifth-place finish and we will take it. Congrats to everybody at RCR and the ECR motor department. They help us out tremendously on this Beard Motorsports team and with one employee, this is a pretty big deal to go up against these organizations with 500-600 employees. So, for the goals that we have, the budget that we are on and the race team that we are; it’s pretty rewarding to be kicking yourself over a fifth-place finish in the Cup series. Very grateful for the opportunity and appreciate all the fan support and for NASCAR in letting us go to the end. I just want to say congratulations to Austin Dillon and his team. It was a lot of fun.” ERIK JONES, NO. 43 FOCUSFACTOR CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 17th “We had a really fast FOCUSfactor Chevy today and were able to run up front, lead laps and thought we had a really good shot at winning. Unfortunately, we had damage from the caution that brought out the red flag and couldn’t make the repairs to meet minimum speed and finish the race. I hate we aren’t in the Playoffs this year, but proud of everyone on the 43 team and the hard work they’ve put in this year. We’ll keep building and use these next 10 weeks to continue to learn this car and try to get the FOCUSfactor Chevy in victory lane.” DANIEL SUAREZ, NO. 99 FREEWAY INSURANCE CAMARO ZL1 – Sidelined by damage sustained in an accident on lap 137; Finished 24th What do you do.. do you stop the race before it rains? “We knew the rain was coming.. it was raining next door. It was just a matter of time. Why would we wait for that.. I don’t know. Maybe I’m a little biased because I was in the front, but there’s nothing you can do. Sometimes you are running 200 mph and you’re able to turn left. And then you see a few drops hard and you’re just spinning.” Do you think they should have called cars to pit road earlier? “I feel like they have a lot of technology to know that the rain is very, very close. I don’t think it’s hard to not put us in that position.” JUSTIN HALEY, NO. 31 CELSIUS CAMARO ZL1 – Sidelined by damage sustained in an accident on lap 137; Finished 28th As you went off into turn one, was there just no grip? “Yeah, it was raining for a good lap before we got into turn one my spotter said. Coming out of (turn) two the previous lap, it was raining and we just lost traction. It’s pretty unacceptable. I thought we did a good job all day with our Celsius Chevrolet and we put ourselves in position. Brett Griffin (spotter) and Trent Owens (crew chief) called that; we stayed out hoping for rain earlier. It’s just tough. I fight for my ride, fight for my life, every day. We take these small opportunities and try to make something of it.” ROSS CHASTAIN, NO. 1 JOCKEY CAMARO ZL1 – Sidelined by damage sustained in an accident on lap 103; Finished 33rd “I’m proud of the effort by our No. 1 Jockey Chevrolet team and Trackhouse Racing. It’s been an incredible 26 weeks. Now we can reset and be ready for 10 weeks of experiencing something I’ve never experienced with the Playoffs; my crew chief, my spotter and my team haven’t experienced.” WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 AXALTA CAMARO ZL1 – Sidelined by damage sustained in an accident on lap 103; Finished 34th“It just looked like they checked up in front of us. I don’t know exactly what happened in the front of the line. I hadn’t checked up and was just going to keep rolling straight through, but they came across me from the top. It’s just unfortunate. We had just gotten our No. 24 Axalta Camaro ZL1 a little bit better. I felt like we were in a good spot. I was happy with how the car was handling and it felt good to be in the mix.” KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1, was sidelined with engine issues during Stage One; Finished 37th. We saw that issue where Kyle Larson pulled to the side and was talking about the engine and water temperatures. What were the issues here and did you have any indication that it was failing? “I guess it was the timing belt maybe or something like that. I didn’t really have much of an indication. I’m sure they’ll dig through the data and see if it was happening earlier than when it really let go there. Bummer. I’m sure we’ll drop a few spots in the points, so that will hurt for the playoffs. But I guess there’s one positive.. that I didn’t get caught up in a crash. We’re safe, good to go race next weekend and get our playoffs started.” TEAM CHEVY RACE QUICK NOTESStage One:· With inclement weather canceling qualifying; the lineup for the NASCAR Cup Series’ regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway was determined by the rulebook, with Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott making an all-Chevrolet front row to lead the field to the green. · From his front row starting spot, Elliott powered his No. 9 A SHOC Camaro ZL1 to the front of the pack to lead the opening lap of the 400-mile race. · Early in the run, Larson pulled his No. 5 HendrickCars.com Camaro ZL1 to the garage, with engine problems ending the day for the reigning NCS champion. · Chevrolet led 34 of the 35 laps in Stage One, with Elliott leading 28 laps and Erik Jones leading 6 laps. · Team Chevy Stage One: Top-102nd Chase Elliott, No. 9 A SHOC Camaro ZL17th Corey LaJoie, No. 7 Built.com Camaro ZL18th Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 Kroger / NOS Camaro ZL19th Erik Jones, No. 43 FOCUSfactor Camaro ZL1 Stage Two: · Team Chevy Stage Two: Top-107th Tyler Reddick, No. 8 Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen Camaro ZL19th Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 Kroger / NOS Camaro ZL110th Austin Dillon, No. 3 BREZTRI Camaro ZL1 Post-Race Notes: · Entering the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway under the playoff cutline; Austin Dillon scored his first win of 2022 in the rain delayed Coke Zero Sugar 400. · Dillon became the 15th new winner of 2022, securing a spot into the NASCAR Cup Series playoff field. · This marks Dillon’s second NCS win at Daytona International Speedway; and his fourth career victory in 326 NASCAR Cup Series starts. · In the 26-race NASCAR Cup Series regular season, Chevrolet has recorded a manufacturer-leading 15 wins, recorded by eight drivers from three different Chevrolet teams. · Becoming the eighth Chevrolet driver to win and secure a playoff spot; Chevrolet occupies 50 percent of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series playoff field. · The winningest brand in NASCAR Cup Series history; Chevrolet now has 829 all-time NASCAR Cup Series victories. |

THE BEAT GOES ON: Tanner English Nets $30K in Second Consecutive World of Outlaws Win at Davenport
| English scores back-to-back wins and Bobby Pierce earns third straight runner-up finish in Quad Cities 150DAVENPORT, IA – August 27, 2022 –After waiting 45 races before claiming his first World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series win, Tanner English said he thought the path to his second victory would be easier. The Benton, KY driver didn’t wait long to prove himself right.Less than 24 hours after scoring his first career Series win during the second night of the Quad Cities 150 at Davenport Speedway, he returned for the event’s epic $30,000-to-win finale, passing Ryan Gustin for the lead, and holding off Bobby Pierce for back-to-back wins.Despite finding the winning formula for the second consecutive night, his journey to Victory Lane was very different.English started on the pole of Saturday’s 70-lap Feature but lost the lead to Ashton Winger early on. He fell out of the top five and bided his time until his car came to life with less than 20 laps left. That patience paid off as English worked his way to third on a restart with 11 laps remaining. When the green flag flew, he dropped to the bottom, sprinting past Ryan Gustin as Lap 62 clicked off the scoreboard. It looked like he’d be on cruise control to the checkered flag, but a yellow slowed the field with six laps to go, pitting English against a surging Shannon Babb and a familiar foe—Pierce. The two drivers pulled away from Babb on the restart and waged war for the final six laps. Pierce swung his car to the top, hoping to find momentum while English stayed the course on the bottom. As they came to the checkered flag, English found the speed he needed in Turn 4, beating Pierce to the line by a few car lengths. The Rookie of the Year contender said his patience in the race’s first half set the stage for his rise to the top at the end.“At the start there, I was just biding my time and trying to not spin the tires because I knew what I had,” English said. “I knew they needed to last, and we just made it last, and with about 10 or 11 to go, I had caught back up to them. I don’t know if their tires just went away or what happened.“Mine just stayed the same the whole race, and I didn’t really lose any time. So, I don’t know. The car was just awesome.”English’s second straight win moves him closer to Dennis Erb Jr. in the championship standings. The Carpentersville, IL driver finished 19th after being involved in the caution with 11 laps left.Erb’s points lead has been cut to 98 points with 12 races remaining, while English leads Blair by 84 points in the Rookie of the Year race.Pierce crossed the line second for the third straight night. Like English, the Oakwood, IL driver came on late in the Feature before falling short of the $30,000 prize.“Tanner drove a hell of a race, I was trying all I could to catch him,” Pierce said. “The cushion was very, very thin and there was a little left in Turn 3 but not enough out of 4.“This place provides such good racing all the time. It was a little more dirty tonight than I preferred, but it eventually got there. It just took a long, long time to get there. The last five laps, I was trying all I could because I knew Tanner was so good on the bottom that it was going to be hard to beat him without being ahead of him on the restart.”Shannon Babb, from Moweaqua, IL crossed the line third after starting last in the Feature. The “Mowequa Missile” praised Davenport Speedway’s track crew and how well his Longhorn chassis ran in his charge to the front.“They did a hell of a job of preparing that track and reviving it,” Babb said. “We were able to work on our car and make a few adjustments. And starting last, I was like, man, these guys are going to lap me in a hurry, so I got to get my ass going.“They did a great job with the track, and we were able to go everywhere that I needed to go. I’m just impressed with this new car. This Longhorn chassis is really fast, this Vic Hill engine is really good, and I’m just really tickled to death to get by a lot of those cars.”Shane Clanton, the 2015 Series champion, finished fourth—his best finish of the weekend. The “Georgia Bulldog” credited how well his Capital Race Car has been running of late as one of the reasons he’s started to get better finishes at the 1/4-mile track.“I feel way better than I’ve ever been here,” Clanton said. “Yes, they changed the shape of the racetrack a little bit, but also, my race car is a little better, too. So, that makes me feel real good.”Justin Kay from Wheatland, IA, rounded out the top five. The son of track promotors Ricky and Brenda Kay stated he was thrilled to get his first top-five finish with the World of Outlaws Late Models.“It’s great doing it at home, at Dad’s racetrack, and with everyone I know that’s here, it’s awesome,” Kay said. “I’ll take [a top-five] anywhere.”Gustin and Winger, who led laps in the Feature, both went to the pits in the final 12 laps. The Marshalltown, IA driver finished 20th, while Winger crossed the line in 15th.English’s confidence continues to rise after scoring his second straight World of Outlaws win at Davenport. However, he knows he can’t let that confidence climb too high as the Series returns to the Southeast on Labor Day weekend.“I think if we keep on doing what we’re doing and staying consistent, we’ll be alright,” English said. “Some of these tracks coming up are a little harder for me. The red dirt tracks I’m not the best on.“We need to learn a little bit down there and maybe lean on our guys at Longhorn a little bit and see if we can get some more information and get a little bit better.”UP NEXT: The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet head to the Southeast for a Labor Day Weekend doubleheader. Earl Pearson Jr. Returns to Lucas Oil Victory Lane with $50,000 Triumph at Port Royal
| PORT ROYAL, PA (August 27, 2022) – Earl Pearson Jr. raced to the top position on lap 10 and held on for his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win since July of 2020. Pearson held off Ricky Thornton Jr. to take the richest dirt late model race in the history of Port Royal Speedway, earning a $50,000 payday in the Rumble by the River main event. Thornton took home $20,000 for second place, as the defending Dirt Track World Champion finished just .612 seconds behind the 4-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion. Gregg Satterlee came from the 12th starting spot to finish third, with Jonathan Davenport and Daulton Wilson rounding out the top five drivers. Thornton took the lead at the start of the race as Pearson, who started fourth, started making his move early and had climbed to second by lap five. Pearson then outdueled Thornton in the race for the lead to grab the top position on lap 10. Pearson looked to be in control until Thornton started to close the gap with less than 10 laps to go. The green flag stretch of racing reached 44 consecutive laps before a caution with six to go would set-up a shootout between the two Lucas Oil regulars. When the race restarted, Thornton made every effort to get by Pearson, but the 50-year-old Florida native was able to hold off the defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year to take the victory. Pearson, in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 40th time in his career, dedicated his win to his father who passed away last year. “It’s awful emotional for me, I lost my dad last year and this is for him and my mom and everybody up in Heaven looking down on me today. There’s no doubt they have been a huge part of everything I have done. This is for all of my family and friends back home and everybody that’s pulling for us. What a heck of a show that was. Thornton ran me awful clean, he got into me a little bit down there in four, but hey that was a heck of a race and I done all I could.” “I didn’t know if I needed a caution or not,” Pearson added. “I have run good here several times. I like the big tracks and it paid off tonight. I absolutely had to change my line. I knew I had to go in low and let it drift up because he [Thornton] is a master of the slide jobs so if I didn’t block the line, I knew what he was going to do. He done a heck of a job. We were fast here in the spring and had speed last night. I love this place, it’s a beautiful place to come to. You can race all over it. They done a heck of a job with the racetrack last night after the rain. They do a heck of a job here.” Thornton, who sits third in the championship points standings, had tracked down Pearson before the only caution of the race. “I really didn’t want that yellow. I felt like I could move around pretty good before that. I tried a Hail-Mary kind of slider, and I knew I wasn’t going to clear him. I wasn’t going to run him over. Earl raced all of us clean, so I made sure I left him a lane. We just didn’t have enough. I felt good in one and two and I could move around. He was kind of committed to the bottom. Overall, I mean it was a brand-new car for this weekend and we had a couple of good runs; we are excited for the rest of the year.” Satterlee, who captured the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at Port Royal in April and came into the race with nine overall wins at eight different tracks, charged from the outside of row number six to round out the podium. “We did nothing different there in the last part of the race. There were less cars in front of us and that allowed us to maneuver a little a bit more and we could race better. We had a good car tonight. We are happy to come up through there to get third. I was disappointed with myself in that heat race. I just needed to get a better starting spot.” The winner’s Jason Papich-owned, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Lucas Oil Products, Tegeler Wrecker and Crane, Papich Construction, Etchberger Trucking, E3 Spark Plugs, Bilstein Shocks, Midwest Sheet Metal, Sunoco Race Fuels, Sierra Pacific Materials, C&D contractors and Developers Bonding, Duvall Electric, Millard Family Chapels, Remi Realty. 7-FOR-7: Bryant Wiedeman is Newest Xtreme Outlaw Midget Winner at Davenport
Wiedeman is Third Winner for Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports This Year
DAVENPORT, IA – August 27, 2022 – Another new winner emerged with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota on Saturday night at Davenport Speedway.
This time, Bryant Wiedeman of Colby, KS was the driver flashing the checkered flag and soaking up the confetti in Victory Lane. He’s the seventh different winner in Series history through the first seven races – joining Gavan Boschele, Taylor Reimer, Jade Avedisian, Chance Crum, Michael Pickens, and Chase McDermand.
The 17-year-old pilot quickly made his presence known from the third spot, rocketing by polesitter Kyle Jones to lead the second of 30 laps at the Davenport, IA 1/4-mile. He controlled the final 29 laps en route to the win, but it wasn’t without a late charge from 10th-starting Zach Daum to make things interesting.
It’s the third Xtreme Outlaw win for Toyota Racing powerhouse Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports, bringing Wiedeman along with Millbridge victors Boschele and Reimer. Saturday’s triumph brings Wiedeman to five career POWRi National Midget League wins as well.
Falling short by 0.402-seconds on the final lap was Zach Daum, who rolled the bottom from 10th-to-2nd aboard the Bundy Built Motorsports, Whitz Racing Products #9M. The Pocahontas, IL native continues to lead the Xtreme Outlaw championship as the most consistent car on tour. Although winless, he’s finished in the top-10 of all seven races and owns four podium results.
Earning a special P3 finish was Kyle Jones, of Kennedale, TX, after starting from the pole position and leading the first lap. He delivered the first-ever National Midget podium finish for the Trifecta Motorsports #7U, and a season-best result for himself.
Rounding out the top-five on Saturday was a pair of Mounce/Stout Motorsports entries with Jacob Denney, of Galloway, OH, in the fourth spot and Chase McDermand, of Springfield, IL, coming home fifth.
Closing out the top-10 at Davenport was Oklahoma’s Daison Pursley in sixth, Texas’ Brenham Crouch in seventh, Illinois’ Mitchell Davis in eighth, Pennsylvania’s Gavin Miller in ninth, and Oklahoma’s Cannon McIntosh in tenth.

2nd GTD – #51 Aidan Read, Rick Ware Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo22
Quote
Aidan Read (#51 Rick Ware Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo22) qualified second: “This feels good! It’s rewarding as there’s been quite a bit of hard work on the car recently to get to this position, on the front row. I’m glad to have been able to back up the speed we had this morning and I think we have more in it, I don’t think this is the end of the story for us. Ryan showed really good race pace in practice this morning and we’ve podiumed from further back than this. We’ve brought our best package here so I’m really optimistic about tomorrow. It’s a credit to everyone at Rick Ware Racing, HPD and Acura to get this Acura NSX really fired up and hopefully we can go win this race tomorrow.”

CORVETTE RACING AT VIR: Front-Row Start for Garcia, No. 3 C8.R
| Team eyeing three straight Michelin GT Challenge victories from second-place grid spot ALTON, Va. (Aug. 27, 2022) – Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia qualified second in the GT Daytona (GTD) PRO class and overall Saturday for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR, an event that Corvette Racing has won the previous two years at Virginia International Raceway. |
| ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – QUALIFIED SECOND: “I feel like I got a lot out the car but not all of it. It was a decent first laps with a few mistakes. Track conditions were tricky. We had to kind of guess where the track would develop. I think I was expecting more grip overall. At the end of the day, it’s the first row. I don’t think we had anything for pole, but looking at tomorrow I think a lot of things will happen. The conditions will be tricky again, and the track can bite you. It will be the same for everybody so we need to see as much of the data as possible so we can fine-tune and be as prepared as possible for the race.”I’d say qualifying was more like what we will have for the race (compared to Friday practice). Warmup (on Sunday) can give us a direction but that will be at eight in the morning. I’m sure the car will feel great then. We’ll focus on what we have and we did yesterday and today to get our Corvette to where it should be for the race. Generally over the long run, we’ve been more competitive on pace in the race than in qualifying. Let’s see if that’s that case again tomorrow. This is still a new race and new track for this spec of car. Having said that, I think we are in good shape. Let’s see if we can keep it up.” |

| NASCAR CUP SERIES DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY COKE ZERO SUGAR 400 TEAM CHEVY PRESS CONF. TRANSCRIPT AUGUST 27, 2022 KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1, met with the media in advance of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Press Conference Transcript: THE NASCAR RACE TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP DOCUMENTARY COMES OUT NEXT WEEK, WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO BE A PART OF THAT? “Yeah, honestly, I haven’t had to do a whole lot with it. I think they came to my house one morning and followed us around to Millbridge (Speedway) one night. Other than that, I think they have been collecting stuff behind the scenes and like from a distance. So, it’s been nice that it hasn’t been like in our face all the time, so honestly, I don’t even know what they have captured. I am excited to see it next week and I think it will turn out really good and I hope all the fans will really enjoy it.” HOW WAS TIME AWAY FROM THE TRACK WITH THE FAMILY? “We always go to Disney in February and I have been gone so much and away from the family so much the last couple of months that I wanted to spend some time with them. I forgot how hot Florida is this time of year, so I think we were all dying yesterday. But I was happy that qualifying got rained out so I could stay there and spend more time with them. Had a really fun time but not sure I will go back ever again in August, but I look forward to getting back in February.” WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THE RACE WITH SO MUCH ON THE LINE FOR OTHER DRIVERS? “I am not sure. The only way for those guys to make it in the playoffs that aren’t currently in the playoffs is to win. So, with that, I think the first couple of stages could be pretty tame. Just because a lot of those drivers are just trying to get to the end of the race to have a shot. But then it could be crazy and wild all race long. So, I am not really sure what to expect. No matter how it is, I hope we are in front of the craziness. I know at the end of the race, as it always does, whether it’s the cutoff race or not…..at Daytona or Talladega it always gets wild. We will see and it will be kind of interesting to follow along and see what guys are fast and if there are going to be a couple of big crashes to wipe out guys that could shake things up a lot. We will see.” DO YOU TAKE A SPECIFIC APPROACH TO IT? “Yeah, I think for us and in my position….we are second in the regular season points right now and I think there are maybe four of us that are really close to finishing second. Because of that, I feel like we need to go after stage points to do our part to finish second. Our plan is to race the whole time and just stay up front and get some points.” IF YOU END UP NOT RACING TONIGHT AND YOU RACE TOMORROW AFTERNOON, HOW DOES IT CHANGE THE STYLE OF THIS RACE IF AT ALL? “Yeah, good question, I am not sure. This place, the handling will be more of a factor for sure during the day than at night. I mean just the whole track is slicker, but I feel like turn four gets really tight. So, I don’t know and I don’t remember us being on track earlier this year with the sun out. In Talladega, handling is not a big deal there. The cars drove really good there gripped up. So, yeah, I am sure it will play a factor as it always does. As far as the race, I am not really sure.” NOW THAT YOU HAVE HAD FOUR SUPERSPEEDWAY RACES WITH THIS CAR, WHAT KIND OF UNDERSTANDING DO YOU BRING HERE TONIGHT? “I don’t know. I am not sure. I don’t think it feels way different than the other stuff. You have to hit your marks on stuff like green flag cycles getting on pit road and getting off pit road even more than the other car. When you are in a big pack, it is not as easy to lose the pack, but as soon as you get to shaking things up with green flag stops its kind of strung out for a lap or two and it seems really easy to lose the draft in that sense. You need to be on your game for that type of thing. Other than that, I don’t think it races way different.” CAN YOU DESCRIBE A LAP AROUND DAYTONA AS FAR AS BEING IN THE PACK OR BEING IN OPEN AIR? “Well, in open air, any of you could do it. In the middle of the pack it gets really hectic and your car doesn’t necessarily do its own thing, but you can feel the air more. The disturbance of the air. You can feel runs and you feel runs stall out a lot. When you get out to the lead you feel like you are going really slow, even though you are going just as fast as the guys behind you. When you are in the middle pack, you feel like you are going fast. It’s a lot quieter out front, but its just when you get out front your car obviously handles a lot better with clean air on it. You are not really looking out the windshield as much and you are looking in the rear view mirror a lot of the time. I haven’t seen the lead on a superspeedway very often but its definitely a little quieter and less going on out front and like I said, your car handles better.” HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE AS FAR AS BALANCING FOCUS AND EMOTION IN THE PLAYOFF SEASON? “For a superspeedway race…..I don’t really get too emotional anyway, so that’s not a problem for me. Staying focused sometimes and making sure you are trying to make the right moves is tough to do a lot of times because runs are happening quick. The gaps are really small that you are trying to get into. Trying to stay focused on risk versus reward but also trying to position yourself for the end of the race is important. I mean a little bit of that goes into each race and race by race. Especially in the playoffs in putting yourself in the right spot at the right time and weighing risk versus reward. Just trying to maximize your day and trying to get as many points as you can like you would at any other speedway race.” AT THIS POINT LAST YEAR YOU HAD ALREADY HAD FIVE WINS AND IT WAS A DOMINANT SEASON, THIS YEAR YOU HAVE TWO. DO YOU ATTRIBUTE THAT TO THE NEXT GEN CAR AND MORE PARITY? “I think definitely a little bit of parity, but you still see a lot of the same good guys running up front. With us, its really just been a lack of execution I would say most weekends. We have really only had a few, like less than five, really clean races where nothing happened and we finished where we deserved. Whether it be just bad restarts or bad pit stops or a missed call for strategy…..something that we just haven’t executed the best. Last year we had a fast car and that makes everything execution wise a lot easier with pit calls, pits stops, and restarts and all that. Yeah, the parity probably pays a big role in it but just us as a team, until recently, haven’t done the best jobs a lot of time. And that is an area where we have tried really hard all season long. Its just hard to do sometimes. But like I said, I feel like lately we have been getting out stuff together. Last week was a great week to get a win and roll on into the playoffs with some momentum hopefully.” WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO HAVE A BETTER PERFORMANCE AT DARLINGTON THIS TIME AROUND? “Yeah, we had a really fast car last time before we blew up. So the first round has a lot of really good tracks for us. I think it is Darlington, Kansas and Bristol maybe. So those are honestly three of my best racetracks. I really like that round and hopefully we can do well in it and get some wins and get some bonus points would be nice. I have always run really well at Darlington, but have not gotten a win there yet. I finished second three times in a row before we blew up this year, so would love to be one spot better there and finally get that Darlington win that I have been close to getting.” TALLADEGA IN THE SPRING WAS A REALLY CLEAN RACE FOR YOU. DOES ANYTHING STAND OUT FROM THE RACE IN THE SPRING THAT YOU CAN USE HERE? “Not really anything happened. We had great track position the whole race and I never once left the bottom lane. I think that if there is anything that I learned is that you can’t go into any superspeedway race with the mindset and say you are going to be patient, but with us being up front the whole time at Talladega, I stayed patient the whole time. And I literally did not move off the bottom the whole time until I did and that is what lost me the race. So yes, I guess I have that same mindset in going into tonight’s race, but like I said it could be way different. This track is narrower, the importance of this race for a lot of other drivers is way different compared to Talladega earlier this year. You can’t show up to every race with the same mindset and have the same results throughout the whole race. But I will say, since it worked last time, that is my mindset right now. But it could change early on.” |

| RegardingTim FreemanMark IngersollPreparing For Indy“I would say that our teams prepare for Indy no different than any other race, although it is the biggest race for Pro Stock. It can turn a not-so-great season into a great one.”“I would say preparing for Indy is a little different than just any race. Everyone wants to win Indy a little more than any other race. You really have to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.”Fastest Session“Friday night qualifying is the fastest session most of the time, so we have to be ready to make a really good run right out of the box.”“Usually the first run on Friday night is the best of the weekend. There are so many cars at Indy that the starting line takes a beating over the weekend and loses grip over time.”Getting Five Qualifying Runs“Five qualifying runs gives us that much more data to prepare us for eliminations on Monday.”“I’m not really a fan of the five qualifying runs. I think three is plenty. It is so important to get off to a good start.”Strategy “It’s Indy. You’ve got to give it everything you’ve got!”“This race is the last before the countdown starts and it is so important to have that momentum going in.”Unknowns“The weather dictates so much of everything we do from the tires to the gears, and engine tuneup and car set up.”“We have some new partsthat we’ve been working on for a few months and will be testing them before Indy. ENGLISH LESSON: Tanner English Schoos Pierce, Moran for First World of Outlaws Win at Davenport
The Benton, KY driver beat Pierce to the finish line by 0.235 seconds
DAVENPORT, IA – August 26, 2022 –Tanner English may never forget the number 0.235.
All he needed was a 0.235 second lead at the finish line Friday night to claim his first World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series win during night two of the Quad Cities 150 at Davenport Speedway.
His journey getting there was no easy climb, though. Race after race this season he inched closer and closer to his first Series win, but a win seemed almost out of the question Friday night, having to transfer out of the Last Chance Showdown and then come from 18th in the 40-lap sprint around the 1/4-mile track.
However, as motivational speaker Les Brown once said, “The harder the journey, the sweeter the victory.”
“This is big, this is huge for our team,” English said. “This will get the momentum rolling. You know when you win one it feels like it’s a little easier after that. So, it’s been a long time coming.”
The Benton, KY driver needed all 40 laps around the Iowa track as he sliced his way from 18th to first around the bottom, passing Bobby Pierce on the last lap and last corner to win by a nose.
English’s ascension toward the front of the field started slowly as he worked his way to eighth in the race’s first 25 laps. However, a caution with 15 laps to go set the stage for the epic finale.
He thundered to the bottom on the restart, picking off five cars in one lap to get to third—his eyes squarely on Pierce and Devin Moran as they waged war for the lead.
English inched closer until he caught the lead duo with two laps left. That’s when Pierce opened the door for the Series Rookie, who didn’t squander his opportunity.
The “Smooth Operator” moved to the top, trying to keep Moran from getting by. But it wasn’t only “The Mailman” lurking behind him.
English kept his Longhorn chassis locked to the bottom and pulled into a three-wide battle in traffic as they took the white flag—none of them yielding an inch.
Pierce and English stormed away from Moran on the backstretch, leaving the two drivers to fight for the win in the final two corners.
They raced side-by-side through Turns 3 and 4, but English found the boost he needed to cross the finish line first, a triumphant victory that had the entire Davenport Speedway crowd standing and cheering.
English said he was worried his opportunity might not come, knowing how good Pierce can be running the top.
“When Bobby got to Trevor {Gundaker, a lap car], and he had to move, I was a little scared because he’s always better on the top, so I figured he’s just going to pull away,” English said. “He got off that bottom there, and it doesn’t matter how far ahead somebody is. If they’re running the bottom, it dirties the air up.
“So, when he went to the top, I think I had just enough gap between me and Trevor that I had clean air, and that car stuck the best it stuck all night. I made two perfect corners, and then next thing you know, I’m pulling up beside him.”
The Feature wasn’t the only climb English and his Riggs Motorsports team faced throughout the night. He didn’t get the start he wanted to after timing eighth in Group B of My Place Hotels Qualifying, that eventually led to him having to transfer out of the Last Chance Showdown. However, he stated he was proud of his crew for remaining optimistic.
“Everybody kept their heads up,” English said. “I think the only person who doubted us was me. I was a little down after the Heat Race, and I’m telling you, I took everything off this car. I changed every single shock, and I did everything I thought I needed to do.
“I ran that (Last Chance Showdown), and I was really good. I knew we had a decent car, I just needed to make the right tire choice, and we’d be alright.”
English’s $10,000 triumph also helped him cut into Dennis Erb Jr.’s lead in the battle for the 2022 championship. Erb now leads English by 136 points after a sixth-place finish Friday night.
English also extended his lead to 58 points in the Rookie of the Year race over Max Blair, who finished fourth.
Bobby Pierce came less than a car-length short of reaching Victory Lane for the second consecutive night. The Oakwood, IL, thought he had the winning formula but stated he didn’t realize English was there until the end.
“I didn’t even know Tanner was in the picture,” Pierce said. “It was an exciting race, but unfortunately, we were just the second-place car. I was having a hard time holding off Devin (Moran) because he was a little better. I felt like toward the end of the race. Tanner obviously was the best car at the end of the race.
“If I had a second shot, I probably run the top in (Turn) 3 and 4 or anticipate [Trevor Gundaker] pulling in and getting right down to the bottom and blocking. You never know what’s going on behind you, so it’s just one of them deals.”
Devin Moran, from Dresden, OH, crossed the line third. The “Mailman” said he was happy with his car but opened the door for English to slip by like Pierce.
“It’s just the way it goes,” Moran said. “I felt like we had a really good car, and I could run that middle-top. I just got caught up with Bobby and just let Tanner go by.
“It was just one of them deals. I need to get my race car a little better so I can get by him and don’t have to worry about that.”
Ashton Winger finished fifth—his second top-five finish of the weekend.
Tanner English completed an uphill climb Friday night at Davenport Speedway, tasting Victory for the first time in World of Outlaws CASE Late Model competition. It’s a sweet triumph he’ll remember not only for the celebration, but how difficult the journey was to get there.
UP NEXT: The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet return to Davenport Speedway for the final night of the Quad Cities 150 presented by Hoker Trucking for a 70-lap, $30,000-to-win finale. The Xtreme Outlaw Midgets presented by Toyota will join the field for the second consecutive night.

Here are the top five in Quad Cities 150 points entering Saturday’s finale:
- Bobby Pierce 1481
- Ashton Winger 1467
- Devin Moran 1445
- Tanner English 1441
- Ryan Gustin 1424
RUSH HOUR: Sweet Maneuvers Strong in Traffic, Wins Fourth of Season at River Cities
| Podium finishers place in-order of Series points GRAND FORKS, ND – August 26, 2022 – With its small size and high speeds, it pays to be good in traffic at River Cities Speedway. Brad Sweet shined bright in that department Friday night, and it paid him his fourth victory of the season with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. Sweet, beginning a push toward a fourth-straight Series championship as the tour enters the final third of the season, bagged his second career victory at the high-banked 1/4-mile oval in convincing fashion, making the pass for the lead on Sheldon Haudenschild in traffic and fending-off all challengers to secure the win. “That’s kinda what makes it racey here at [River Cities] – the lapped traffic is really tricky, and being so small, you’re in traffic so quick,” Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA, said. “You’ve got to make quick decisions and you’ve got to have a car that maneuvers on different parts of the racetrack.” Taking the green from third on the starting grid, Sweet wasted zero time in his drive to the lead, getting around outside polesitter Spencer Bayston on Lap 2 and making a beeline for leader Haudenschild. Haudenschild started his charge through slower traffic strong, making moves quickly and maintaining space between himself and Sweet. That was, until he reached the tail tank of Jade Hastings on Lap 11, who was also running the top side through Turns 3-4. This impeded his path just enough for Sweet to make a dive down low and take the spot away at the exit of Turn 4. From there on out, it was smooth sailing for Sweet. Inside, outside, it didn’t seem to matter where the lapped cars in front of him were racing – Sweet was passing them with little-to-no hesitation. “I felt good once I got to lapped traffic,” Sweet said. “You always want to get to those first couple of lapped cars and be able to clear them pretty quick. It makes you feel like you’ve got a little bit of a gap.” As Sweet’s gap widened, David Gravel was making moves of his own toward the front. With a big head of steam out of Turn 2 and into Turn 3 on Lap 14, Gravel threw a big slide job on Haudenschild to take second, and from there began his trek to Sweet’s rear bumper. A few caution flags bunched the field back up multiple times over the next 15 laps, giving Gravel and third-running Carson Macedo more opportunities to make a move for the lead from behind. But neither seemed to have anything for the defending Series champion. Though Gravel and Macedo tried in the final laps, both were unable to catch the Kasey Kahne Racing #49 as Sweet drove away with the $10,000 check. “On that final run with 11-to-go, I felt like I was able to pace [Sweet], but once I got to that first lapped car, I did not get around him very good and he was able to set sail,” Gravel, of Watertown, CT, said. “I think we had a car capable of winning, just needed a couple little things to go our way.” Macedo, trailing both Gravel and Sweet in the championship standings, crossed the stripe in third after starting fifth. The run was his third-straight podium finish and 19th of such kind this season, backing-up he and the Jason Johnson Racing team’s momentum swing from a big win last weekend. “We got to traffic and it would just start to play-out, then a caution would come,” Macedo, of Lemoore, CA, said. “Sometimes, that’s just the way it works. “I thought the only way we were going to get by [Sweet and Gravel] would have been if they really got to mixing it up in traffic. I was praying for that.” Sweet’s win now gives him three victories in the last nine World of Outlaws standard points events. It’s coming at a great time to make a push for the points title, especially after the win-shy start to the year they endured. “It’s been a trying year, no doubt,” Sweet said. “We’re not used to the struggles, but I noticed a lot of teams are having similar struggles. I think everybody’s just searching with their race cars and trying to figure out what’s changing on a nightly basis.” “With the slow start, we’re a little light in the win column. Obviously, [my] guys deserve to win a lot more.” UP NEXT The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars are back in action Saturday night, August 27, at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND. Sheppard and Davenport Score Feature Wins at Port Royal
| PORT ROYAL, PA (August 26, 2022) – Brandon Sheppard and Jonathan Davenport went to Lucas Oil Victory Lane on Friday night in the preliminary night twin 25 lap features at the Port Royal Speedway. Sheppard led all the way to win the first 25 lap main event, while Davenport had to chase down Chris Ferguson to take the lead on lap 17 for the victory. In the first preliminary feature, Sheppard pulled away from Earl Pearson Jr. and Jimmy Owens after a late race caution for the win. Mike Marlar came home in fourth, with Michael Norris completing the top five. Sheppard took advantage of his pole starting spot, bolting to the lead at the start of the race. Owens then followed Sheppard until lap 17 when Pearson, using the top line, got by him for second. The two 4-time series champions then battled to the finish with Pearson edging out Owens. Sheppard’s margin of victory was 1.230 seconds at the finish. The winner’s Mark Richards Racing Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Ace Metal Works, Sunoco Race fuels, Sallack Well Service, Keyser Manufacturing, Gunter’s Honey, Petroff Towing, and Rocket Pre-Owned Motors. Completing the top ten in the first feature were Gary Stuhler, Ross Robinson, Daulton Wilson, Rick Eckert, and Dale Hollidge. “It’s good to get back to Victory Lane. The track was awesome tonight. The track crew did a great job getting the track ready after the rain. You could race all over it tonight. I am sure tomorrow night it will slick off and put on a good show for these fans. I want to thank my crew for all the hard work they do on the car. This should get us a good starting spot tomorrow night for the heat races.” Pearson, who capitalized on a solid run at Port Royal Speedway in April, came home in second. “Our car was good tonight. We could run that top good. I thought maybe on that last restart I had something for him [Sheppard]. The top three put on a heck of a show for these fans. Jimmy and I went back and forth for a long time there. The track was smooth and racy. I am sure it will be drier tomorrow night. I think we have a car capable of winning this race on Saturday night.” Owens, who stayed in the top three the entire race, rounded out the podium in the first 25-lapper. “We had a good car. It was very maneuverable. I thought I could stay with Brandon there for a while longer, but he got away from us and then we had that caution and Earl, and I were racing hard. It was a good race and hopefully it will put us in a good position for the heat races.” Davenport would continue his hot streak but had to earn the win as Ferguson led the first 16 laps of the second 25 lapper before yielding the lead to Davenport in traffic. When the checkers flew, Davenport had opened a 4.337 second advantage. Davenport, who started third, led Ferguson, Gregg Satterlee, Kyle Strickler, and Hudson O’Neal to the finish line for his sixth straight Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory and the 65th of his career. “That was the key to get through lapped traffic. I knew it would slime up there a little bit once we got to traffic. The top was pretty dominant there. Finally, there was a couple of drivers that got in his way. Then we started dicing through there. I got a good run off the bottom of two there one time and that was the only time I could do that. He come back on me one time and he turned down across and I tried not to hit him, so I got broke loose and I had to try and slide him all the way across hos nose. I was trying to run him as clean as I could.” Ferguson, the 2022 Show-Me 100 winner, appeared to have the car to end Davenport’s long win streak but fell short at the end. “I just needed to be a little better on the cushion. We were just a little too tight to be up there running where we were. I was having to drive the car really hard. I did what I could to keep him behind me as long as I could, but he was just a little bit better up there than us.” Satterlee, who entered the weekend as one of the Pennsylvania hopefuls, came from seventh to round out the podium. “It’s definitely a step in the right direction. We kind of started off on the wrong foot tonight. I didn’t qualify very well and I kind of put us behind going forward for the rest of the evening. We were able to make up some ground in the heat race and we made some really good changes for the feature. Our car was good it was really balanced well. We were just getting better and better as the race wore on.” The winner’s Lance and Darla Landers, Double L Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, Spartan Mowers, ASC Warranty, Bilstein Shocks, VP Fuels, Midwest Sheet Metal, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. | “Man, we had a fast Whelen Chevrolet tonight. RCR and ECR brought an amazing car. Not the way we wanted it to end. That was probably one of the hardest hits I’ve taken. I’m not really sure what happened. It was a hard hit. I think the 68 got the 26 and spun him down the track there. I caught him and thought I was going to be okay. And then once I went back up the racetrack, I knew I was in trouble. I’m glad I was able to walk away from that. I do still want to see what happened earlier in the race with the No. 7 car. We spun, but I haven’t been able to see a replay yet. I want to thank my guys. We had a really fast Whelen Chevy. I just wish we could have finished.” -Sheldon Creed |

| “That one really hurts, we were so close to getting our second win at Daytona this season. We had a really fast United Rentals Chevrolet but it was an up and down day to start. We started 14th because qualifying was canceled and then we had an early incident on pit road that gave us some damage and we had to pit a second time for repairs. That set us back but we were able to make up some ground and make it to the next caution for more repairs. My spotter, Derek Kneeland, helped me navigate through a lot of cautions and we were in the right place at the end. I felt pretty confident during the first two NASCAR Overtime attempts. Unfortunately, during the final attempt, we suffered an electrical issue and I couldn’t keep my lead. Really tough ending to our day but this team never gives up and has worked really hard to bring strong racecars. We’ll regroup and focus on winning at Darlington.” -Austin Hill |
Burton To Start 29th at Daytona
August 26, 2022
With rain showers at Daytona International Speedway washing out Friday’s Cup Series qualifying, Harrison Burton and the No. 21 DEX Imaging team are set to start Saturday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 from 29thplace.
The lineup was set using a formula largely based on recent performances.
Saturday’s 400-miler is the 26th and final race of the Cup circuit’s regular season and offers drivers like Burton, who is not assured of a berth in the season-ending run to the championship, one last chance to join the elite 16 who will start the 10-race Playoffs.
For Burton, the only way to enter the Playoffs is to win on Saturday night. He told reporters at Martinsville Speedway during a break in testing this week that he’ll be doing all he can to get that victory.
“At this point, it doesn’t really help us to have a decent points day, so it’s win or go home,” Burton said.

NASCAR CUP SERIES
DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY
COKE ZERO SUGAR 400
TEAM CHEVY PRESS CONF. TRANSCRIPT
AUGUST 26, 2022
WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 AXALTA CAMARO ZL1, met with the media in advance of the NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at Daytona International Speedway, where Saturday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 will be the series’ regular season finale. Press Conference Transcript:
BOTH OF YOUR TEAMMATES – KYLE LARSON AND CHASE ELLIOTT – WERE INVOLVED IN THAT INCIDENT, IF THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT TO CALL IT, AT WATKINS GLEN. BUT THEY SAID RECENTLY THAT THEY HAD A MEETING AND EVERYTHING IS SETTLED. WERE YOU A PART OF THAT MEETING AND WHAT WAS YOUR TAKE ON THAT WHOLE SITUATION?
“Yeah, we’re always a part of those meetings. For us, competition meetings happen every Monday at noon. It was just an open discussion, dialogue, and I thought it went well. I’ve always had respect and raced well with all of my teammates. I feel like we all get along well and I feel like we all work together when possible. I mean obviously there’s not a ton of places where you can work together anymore; but the speedways, Martinsville restarts and things like that, Chase (Elliott) and I have worked together well on. And Kyle (Larson), too. In the Xfinity race, we worked well together.”
IN GENERAL, WHAT’S THE STANDARD OF WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO EXPECT FROM HOW TO RACE A TEAMMATE? THAT SITUATION ASIDE, WHEN YOU’RE RACING WITH THEM EVERY WEEK, ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GIVE THEM EXTRA ROOM? DOES GOING FOR THE WIN CHANGE IT? WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THAT?
“It’s tricky. In NASCAR today, there are so many other factors; like who’s behind you on a restart is a factor. So, that makes a decision different for you based on the loyalty, or lack thereof. I think all of those things factor in.
But when it comes to directly racing your teammate; for us, it’s just not making contact. We’re expected to trust the other three guys a little bit more than the rest of the field. I think that’s just the way that I approach it. If I do make some accidental contact.. like with Kyle (Larson) and I on restarts, or Chase (Elliott) and I, or Alex (Bowman) and I; it’s definitely not intentional to try and hit them. But yeah, just trying to race them with a little more trust I’d say. I’d say the biggest word is just ‘trust’.”
WITH HOW MUCH SPEED THAT YOU GUYS HAD AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, HOW DANGEROUS DO YOU FEEL LIKE THE NO. 24 TEAM CAN BE IN THE PLAYOFFS?
“Yeah, we haven’t shown it in a while; but like Indy Road Course, we had top four speed. On all of the metrics that I looked at, we were a second-place car at the Indy Road Course, so that was a really good race for us. The last couple, we’ve kind of been on the edge of the top-10, not quite getting there at the end of the race.
But I think honestly a lot of the tracks in the playoffs are really good tracks for us. Obviously we had a great run going at Darlington. I feel like at Kansas.. we were leading the race, had a flat left rear tire, which was back when we were all having left rear tire problems, and damaged the entire underbody of the car. So we went from leading that race – Kurt (Busch) was second at that time – to I think we finished 15th or 16th because the car had no more downforce after that. Those two tracks are really good for us. Bristol ast year we finished third. I don’t really look past those, but I think as we get into the second and third round, those are great tracks too. I feel optimistic for really all of them. Homestead is back in there.. that was an awesome track. We just had a good test at Martinsville, so I feel like Martinsville can continue to be a good place for us. We just have to get to those.”

Progress continues in development of Cadillac V-LMDh
| Four Cadillac Racing drivers test new car at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta |
| DETROIT (Aug. 26, 2022) – Cadillac Racing continued working on its development checklist of the Cadillac V-LMDh during three days of testing this week at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The sessions on the 2.54-mile, 12-turn natural-terrain road course were among many planned through the remainder of the year as Cadillac Racing prepares to contest the top category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in 2023. |
| “The car is wicked fun to drive. Now it’s about getting more miles, so it’s a busy time coming up with tests that are critical to the project. All eyes forward to 2023.” Added reigning IMSA DPi champion Derani: “To be part of the program and develop this new hybrid technology with Cadillac Racing is fantastic for me as a driver. I’ve had a successful time with the DPi and now I’m looking forward to the future. The car was born quite well; it’s a strong base where we can start working with the car. For a driver when they get in a car they immediately know if it’s a car that they’re going to be able to develop into a good car or they’re going to have lots of trouble with. The little that I’ve had so far in the car shows great promise. It gives us a reason to smile and keep working hard.” Since 2017, Cadillac has been competing at the forefront of American sports car racing in IMSA in the DPi class, where is has recorded 27 victories, three Manufacturer Championships and four Manufacturer Endurance Cup Championships. Cadillac Racing has also won three Team and Driver Championships. Five Cadillac DPi-V.R entries will compete for the brand’s fifth victory of the season Oct. 1 in the 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. |

DAVENPORT HUSTLER: Jason Feger Wins Opening Night of Quad Cities 150 at Davenport
The Bloomington, IL driver held off Bobby Pierce in final laps to earn first Series win of 2022
DAVENPORT, IA– AUGUST 25, 2022 – Jason Feger made the most of a second chance Thursday night at Davenport Speedway.
It appeared heartbreak had struck the Bloomington, IL driver when he lost the lead to Devin Moran in traffic with 12 laps to go. However, Moran’s tire went flat during a caution six laps later, giving Feger the top spot again—a rare second chance he didn’t let go to waste.
From there, the “High Side Hustler” used the outside lane to stay in front, holding off a hard-charging Bobby Pierce to win night one of the Quad Cities 150 presented by Hoker Trucking with the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models.
Feger stated he’ll take the win any way he can get it, having been in Moran’s position on a few occasions.
“Obviously [Moran] is really good, and he’s really good here,” Feger said. “I just kind of got stuck behind a lap car there and let him sneak by me.
“I wish I could’ve had the chance to race him a little bit better. He did a great job. I just kind of got pinned in there, so it was kind of frustrating in that aspect. It sucks for him, but it’s good for us. We’ll take it. We’ve lost plenty of them that way, so you can’t feel bad winning them that way.”
Moran, who settled for 10th, looked to be on track for his second consecutive World of Outlaws CASE Late Models victory before his tire went flat. He stated he’s already looking toward the potential $40,000 in winnings still up for grabs between Friday and Saturday.
“That’s why they call it racing,” Moran said. “It’s definitely a bummer. There’s just a lot of things that’s happened to us the last few days. The truck tires blew out, another car broke down, and that happened.
“But we’ll just suck it up and make sure everything’s ready for [Friday] and Saturday and hopefully take advantage of a fast race car.”
While Feger inherited the lead from Moran, he still had another challenge before the race was over—Pierce.
The “Smooth Operator” swung underneath Feger on the final lap to try and beat him to the finish line, but Feger held his ground and let his momentum carry him to the $10,000 prize.
Feger stated he felt like he was hanging on at the end, fighting through handling issues.
“The crumbs here really get your tires overheated,” Feger said. “I felt horrible at the end. I felt so bad I thought my tire was flat. If you look at it, it looks fine. It just must’ve been overheating. But you just have to tell yourself that everyone probably feels that bad.
“After talking with Bobby and stuff, he said he felt the same thing. Then you just kind of have to do the best you can with an ill-handling race car.”
Pierce crossed the line second—half a car short of scoring his third World of Outlaws win of 2022.
The Oakwood, IL, driver stated he hoped to have the chance to pull a slide job but couldn’t get as close as he wanted.
“If I was going to do a slider, it would’ve been coming to the white flag in Turn 1,” Pierce said. “I was trying to get the perfect situation where I was like right on his bumper, but every time we came off the corner, it wasn’t quite there.
“I was catching something in (Turns) 3 and 4, and it was allowing me to get close, but by the time I got down the straightaway, I just wasn’t really confident I was close enough.”
Tanner English, the Rookie of the Race, grabbed the final spot on the podium. The Benton, KY driver said his strategy in the Feature worked perfectly.
“I was waiting for [the inside] to come around,” English said. “I was just hanging on there in the Heat Race and waited for it to come around in this Feature, and that’s kind of my deal. I’m pretty good down there, I rotate the bottom good and set up for it, and the car came alive, and I passed a bunch of cars.”
English also made significant gains in the Series championship and Rookie of the Year battle.
He now trails Dennis Erb Jr., who finished 11th, by 148 points in the championship standings, while leading Max Blair, who finished 15th, in the Rookie of the Year battle by 50 points.
Ashton Winger, from Hampton, GA, finished fourth—his first Series top five since joining Big Frog Motorsports last month.
The 2020 Series Rookie of the Year said he’s happy with his finish as he goes through a learning curve with his new team.
“We’re still kind of getting back in the swing of things,” Winger said. “This deal is so relatively new to me and getting interviewed seems like it’s starting to get new again.
“I always kind of struggle here at Feature time whenever you have to have forward drive and chase the racetrack around. I get married to that cushion, and I can only hit it right two out of every maybe three laps.”
Billy Moyer, a three-time Series champion, rounded out the top five. It’s the Batesville, AR driver’s best finish since getting behind the wheel of the Tim Lance-owned car.
“We’ve ran a few times, it just seems like we’ve really been snake-bit with a lot of problems since I’ve been driving Tim’s car,” Moyer said. “Finally, tonight, we got to finish and move forward from where we started from. It’s a new car, and I think I’ve only ran this car once and I’m learning it. So, I think I feel really good about everything we’re learning as we go.”
Jason Feger didn’t let his second chance slip away Thursday night at Davenport Speedway, despite a victory appearing out of reach. His fortune gave him momentum and confidence with $40,000 in winnings still up for grabs the rest of the weekend.
UP NEXT: The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet return to Davenport Speedway for night 2 of the Quad Cities 150 presented by Hoker Trucking. The Series will run another 40-lap, $10,000-to-win Feature. The Xtreme Outlaw Midgets presented by Toyota will join the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models the next two nights.
