| CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2022) – John Force and the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car team return to zMAX Dragway for the Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals sitting fourth in the Camping World Drag Racing Series points, still very much in contention for an unprecedented 17th series championship. Just 97-points back from the lead, Force makes his second 2022 visit to the track where earlier this year he won the Circle K 4Wide Nationals, boosting him to his current drag racing record 155 tour victories. He drove his PEAK Chevy Camaro to zMAX Dragway track Funny Car records of 3.850-seconds and 335.07 mph in qualifying No. 1 for the 4Wide, his only No. 1 start so far this season. “This PEAK Auto team has been working hard to keep us in the hunt. We’re still there. It’s going to be a battle,” Force said. “I’m looking forward to getting back to Charlotte, I’ve done well there and it’s a beautiful facility, the Bellagio of drag racing. The Smith family always puts on a great show, carrying on Bruton’s legacy. We’ll be looking for consistency, go some rounds Sunday, get the job done.” Force has won the spring Four-Wide at zMAX Dragway three times (2010, 2021, 2022) but his only victory in the fall Carolina Nationals came in 2016. Last year, after qualifying No. 1, he was ousted from the Carolina Nationals on a centerline infraction in the second round. ROOKIE CAMRIE CARUSO READY FOR HOME PLAYOFF RACE AT BETWAY NHRA NATIONALS
DENVER, NC (September 22, 2022) — After spending the past seven and a half months traveling across the country pursuing Pro Stock wins and a chance to compete for the Camping World Drag Racing Series Pro Stock world championship rookie Camrie Caruso will race just minutes from her home in Denver, North Carolina, this weekend. Competing in the Betway NHRA Nationals, the second Countdown playoff race, Caruso will be racing a new look GESi Chevrolet Camaro powered by Titan Racing Engines. Sitting in tenth place less than 100 points out of the lead Caruso has five races left in her rookie season. The front-runner for rookie of the year has secured a No. 1 qualifier, raced to a final round, and secured a spot in the playoffs in the ultra-competitive Pro Stock category.
“I am looking forward to racing in front of my North Carolina fans,” said Caruso. “I came to the four-wide race earlier this year as a spectator, but this will be my first time racing Pro Stock at one of the nicest tracks on the tour. We are in the Countdown and we definitely want to move up in the points. This class is very tough. but we are giving it maximum effort.”
Caruso has made her mark already in the Pro Stock category establishing herself as a consistent driver off the starting line with strong power under the hood thanks to Titan Racing Engines. Caruso’s veteran crew chief Jim Yates, a former Pro Stock world champion, has been a strong guiding force in the development of Caruso this season. The duo spent considerable time before the season started working on the minute details of staging and racing in preparation for races like the final five national events in the Countdown.

“At the beginning of the season before I had even tested my goals for this season were to win races, be No. 1 qualifier, make the Countdown and win the Pro Stock championship,” said Caruso, a third generation drag racer. “Jim said my goals were too high, but I don’t think so. I feel like we can race with anyone and I am looking forward to showing what this GESi Chevrolet Camaro can do this weekend.”
Throughout the season Caruso Family Racing has been working with several marketing partners both through primary on-car branding and in the pits marketing opportunities. This weekend GESi, an industry leading emissions control technologies company that has conducted over eighteen years of research and development in creating and testing their patented and proprietary advanced emission reduction technology called Dry Selective Catalyst™ (DSC™). Today our technology can be found in many verified applications from a small gas-powered lawn mower up to a 3000HP power generation plant, in locations around the world. Their mission is to design, engineer, manufacture, sell and support emissions technologies by exceeding expectations for their partners and industry.
“GESi has been on our Camaro all season and we wanted to highlight them in the Countdown,” said Caruso. “I am hoping this weekend in Charlotte being a home race for me will be a good time to get that first win not just for GESi but also NGK/NTK Spark Plugs, PowerBuilt Tools, Sand Haulers of America, VP Racing Lubricants and all the partners that have supported us this season.”
Caruso and the GESi Chevrolet Camaro will have three qualifying runs to earn a spot in the 16-car qualified field. This season Caruso has made every field and raced to at least the quarterfinals seven times. Final eliminations will begin on Sunday at noon ET for all the Camping World Drag Racing Series categories. The race will be broadcast on FS1 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. ET.
ROBERT HIGHT AND AUTO CLUB CHEVY LOOK TO WIDEN POINTS LEAD AT NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS
| CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2022) – Robert Hight and the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS team will be chasing their eighth win of the season this weekend at the Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway and with it an even more defining bid for the NHRA Camping World Funny Car championship title. Hight is coming off a millstone 60th career victory and career best seventh win of the season at last weekend’s event at Maple Grove Raceway. The three-time champion had a near perfect weekend gaining points every qualifying run en route to his fourth No. 1 of the season and continued on race day being quickest or second quickest of every round. The victory makes him just the sixth Funny Car driver to win seven races in a season (with Don Prudhomme, Kenny Bernstein, Ron Capps and Jack Beckman). “It’s really been an incredible year so far. I have to give it up to this Auto Club Chevy team. They have worked so hard, really put their heads down and put the work in. It started at the end of last season and carried through all winter, and they haven’t let up. That’s why we are where we are right now,” Hight said. “Going into Charlotte, we have to treat it just like any other race, just like we treated Reading. I sound like a broken record but it really is just one run at a time, get points in qualifying and be consistent on race day. Hopefully we get it done again this weekend.” Hight has won a record six-times at zMAX Dragway, four times in the fall at the Carolina Nationals (2009, 2013, 2017 and 2019) and twice at the Four-Wide Nationals in the spring (2012, 2014). He has yet to qualify No. 1 at the Carolina Nationals but has started race day from the top spot at the Four-Wide three times (2010, 2012, 2019). This weekend, he’ll be looking to add to his 13 Countdown wins, already a record in Funny Car. Competition at the Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway, the second of six NHRA Countdown to the Championship races, begins with qualifying Friday evening at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday at 2:15 and 6:00 p.m. Eliminations are slated for Sunday at noon. Television coverage of the event will be on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and begins with a live qualifying show Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET. | For the second consecutive season, Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger has been named the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Regular-Season Champion. The 2022 season is only the second full-time campaign in the series for the 40-year-old California native, with Allmendinger now taking the regular-season title in both. The Chevrolet driver has been a consistent fixture atop the points standings this season; taking the lead after the Richmond event on April 2 and never looking back. Allmendinger – who’s recorded three wins and a series-leading 23 top-10s in 26 points-paying races – will enter the series’ playoff run with 15 additional playoff points as he competes for his first career NXS championship crown. |
EIGHT CHEVROLET DRIVERS LOCK INTO NXS PLAYOFFS
With the NASCAR Xfinity Series regular-season complete, eight Chevrolet drivers have officially punched their ticket into the 12-driver playoff field to compete for the series’ championship title. Joining the NXS Regular-Season Champion AJ Allmendinger in the post-season battle include all four JR Motorsports teammates, Noah Gragson, Justin Allgaier, Josh Berry and Sam Mayer; NXS rookie Austin Hill; Daytona (August) winner Jeremy Clements; and Allmendinger’s Kaulig Racing teammate Daniel Hemric. With the playoff points standings reseeded for the start of the race to the championship, Noah Gragson and the No. 9 JR Motorsports Camaro SS team has claimed the top spot on the leaderboard. With his six wins – including the past three consecutive races – and his series-leading 15 top-fives, 13 stage wins and 51 playoff points; Gragson enters the Round of 12 with a 46-point lead over the playoff cutline. The NXS playoffs consist of two, three-race rounds, with one final race at Phoenix Raceway to determine the champion. The first of three races in the NXS Round of 12 gets underway on Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway with the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. Chevrolet is heading back to the 1.5-mile Texas venue as defending winners at the track after Tyler Reddick drove the No.48 Big Machine Racing Camaro SS to the win in May, with four fellow Team Chevy drivers in tow to give the bowtie brigade a sweep of the top-five finishing positions.
DOMINANT REGULAR-SEASON FOR THE CAMARO SS
In 26-points paying races, Chevrolet drivers have accumulated 19 wins, recorded by eight drivers from five different Chevrolet teams. The first came right out of the gate with Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill in the series’ season opener at Daytona International Speedway. The manufacturer has gone on various impressive win streaks throughout the season, including seven in a row that started with Noah Gragson’s Talladega win in April. Entering the Texas race weekend, Chevrolet is riding streak of five consecutive victories. 16 of Chevrolet’s manufacturer-leading 19 wins of the season have come in the series’ past 18 races, giving Chevrolet drivers and teams a wave of momentum heading into the post-season race to the championship. Gragson’s career-best and series-leading sixth win of 2022 at Bristol Motor Speedway also gave the bowtie brand its 496th all-time NXS win, with the manufacturer entering the playoffs just four wins away from its milestone 500th all-time win in the series. Looking to capture its sixth consecutive – and 23rd all-time – NXS Manufacturer Championship, Chevrolet continues to pull away in the manufacturer points standings. With just seven races remaining, the bowtie brand now leads its manufacturer competitors by 125-points in the standings.

QUOTABLE QUOTES
ROSS CHASTAIN, NO. 1 RENU CAMARO ZL1 Did you learn anything in the Sprint All-Star race that you think will be important in this Playoff race?“In the spring we were flying in Texas. I would like to not fly as high (laughs). With the two ends being so different, you gain so much speed with the banking and you have to slow down a lot in turns 1 and 2. Keeping the balance on both ends is important. We obviously learned stuff in the All-Star race but now there is a lot more on the line.” Since its newer pavement at Texas, do you think we’ll see more drastic things with the new car?“It does actually. It has a lot of grip until you lose it, so when you do lose it you crash, or we blow tires. I think the whole field has gotten better with not blowing tires as easily. I don’t know how long they’re going to leave Texas the way it is, so it’s probably time to enjoy it for what it is.” KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1 Larson on lessons learned during last season’s playoffs: “Be clean and let the other teams make the mistakes. Honestly, if you can just finish you don’t have to do anything crazy in the first couple rounds. Don’t take yourself out of stage points or a good finish and you can advance. Once you get to the Round of 8, that’s obviously when you need to get some top-five finishes or a win. You just don’t want to take yourself out of any race or get any DNF or anything like that where you put yourself in a must-win situation because winning is really difficult to do. You just want to keep yourself in contention every race.” CLIFF DANIELS, CREW CHIEF, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1Daniels on the challenges of setting a car up for Texas Motor Speedway: “Texas (Motor Speedway) is definitely a different style intermediate track with less banking in (turns) one and two and a tighter corner radius than (turns) three and four. It’s actually fun to try to set up a car because the ends are so different. With some hotter temperatures this weekend compared to when we were there for the All-Star Race and with the groove widening out with resin or whatever they spray, 500 miles is a long race but I hope it can be a pretty fun day.” CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1Elliott on racing at Texas: “I’d love to go to Texas (Motor Speedway) this weekend and have a good, solid run and start this round off on a high note. We didn’t get to run the full All-Star Race earlier this year, but I still feel like we got enough track time to have good notes as we head back there. We just need to put a good weekend together and execute a solid day. If we can do that, then we have as good a shot as anyone to get a win and lock ourselves into the next round.” ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on preparing for the Round of 12:“This is going to be a tough round, but we know what we need to do to keep our playoff run going. Execution and putting together three solid races is going to be key. Each of these races in this Round of 12 has its own unique set of challenges. There isn’t really much room for error, but if you make a mistake, you have to regroup quickly and do what you can to maximize the day and get as many points as you can. Our group is really good at that and I think we are fully capable of advancing.” WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 RAPTORTOUGH.COM CAMARO ZL1Byron on preparation for Texas: “I’m interested to see how racing at Texas (Motor Speedway) goes this weekend. We’ve always had speed there but I think in the spring we just were a little off on our setup since it was the first time at Texas in the Next Gen car. Our mile-and-a-half program is the one I think we needed to work on the most this season but I think, especially after Kansas (Speedway) a few weeks ago, that we’ve really improved on those style of tracks. With how this round shapes up there’s a lot of emphasis on Texas and leaving there with as many points as possible and that will be our goal, just like how we did last round. As long as we have a good Saturday, I think we’ll be in a good place for the race and then it’s all about execution on Sunday.” RUDY FUGLE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 24 RAPTORTOUGH.COM CAMARO ZL1Fugle on what he expects at Texas this weekend: “I think we have some good notes heading into this weekend’s race at Texas (Motor Speedway). We learned a lot from Kansas (Speedway) a couple weeks ago, and with us using the same tire as we did for that race, a good portion of those notes should translate. The biggest difference is going to be how much hotter it is and where the resin is applied on the track. From what we’ve been told, the resin is being applied like it was for the All-Star Race earlier this year, so we have those notes as well. Just with the heat and tire compound though, I think handling is going to play a much bigger factor this weekend than it did for the All-Star event. We’ve really focused on that this week, so we hopefully unload close to where we need to be and focus more on fine-tuning than anything.” TY DILLON, NO. 42 BLACK RIFLE COFFEE COMPANY CAMARO ZL1Dillon’s thoughts on racing at Texas Motor Speedway:“I’m looking forward to heading to Texas this weekend with my No. 42 Petty GMS team. We have been working on our intermediate package and I believe this weekend should be fun to see how some of these changes play out on track. Ever since the surface was reconfigured a few years ago, it has presented us drivers with such a challenging course to attack. Hopefully, the use of the resin will help promote some good passing opportunities, because the speeds are up and clean air is always king at this place. I’m excited to welcome our friends at Black Rifle Coffee Company back onboard our Camaro, and hope to give everyone a good run for 500 miles in the Lone Star state.” ERIK JONES, NO. 43 FOCUSFACTOR CAMARO ZL1“Texas was a tough race for us during the All-Star race. We got voted in by the fan vote and just really struggled all night. We were on a path that I feel like wasn’t working with our mile-and-a-half program at that point. I think we’ve gotten it quite a bit better and know what we need to do better for that race coming back. Hopefully those things will play out for us. I like Texas a lot. I’ve been able to win a hand full of races there in the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series, so I want to get strong there in the Cup car and contend for a win with our FOCUSfactor Chevy.” ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1Bowman on being named the 2022 Halifax Humane Society’s Humanitarian of the Year: “It is really cool to be nominated for the award. Helping animals is a big passion of mine and something that I really value. Without Ally and Best Friends Animal Society helping me get the money and resources to Best Friends network partners across the country, none of this would be possible. I am honored to receive this award, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Hopefully we can win a few more races before the season ends and get even more money to the pets who need it.” Bowman, on what it takes to make it to the Round of 8: “Our team is really focused on taking it one race at a time. We did that in the Round of 16 to get to where we are now. The crew is really fired up right now and all of us are putting in the time to give ourselves the best chance of success. Greg (Ives) is really focused and leading us really well right now. I think that if we continue to pay attention to the small details and stay focused on one race at a time, we can go really far this postseason. We have Texas (Motor Speedway) circled right now and that’s all that matters.” GREG IVES, CREW CHIEF, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1Ives on advancing to the Round of 12: “Despite the mechanical issues, we had a fast car in Bristol and glad we made it to the next round of the playoffs. Our team has worked hard to give Alex (Bowman) really fast race cars and Alex has been locked in on performing and the team is feeding off of his energy. We have a lot of momentum right now and I told the team we don’t have to hit home runs. We just need to get on base and maximize the results. Texas (Motor Speedway) is the next race we all have our focus on.” DANIEL SUAREZ, NO. 99 AGUAS FRESCAS CAMARO ZL1What are your thoughts on going to Texas and beginning the Round of 12?“We can’t wait to get to the track. Not only do we have a big weekend planned with Daniel’s Amigos, but Texas is one of my favorite tracks. We know we are better than what we showed at Bristol. Texas, Talladega and the Charlotte Roval are three of my better tracks. We know we can advance, now we have to show everyone else.” How tough is the mental reset after a struggle at Bristol?“You have no idea how easy it’s going to be for me to reset because that car was not fun. For me, to be able to make it to the next round with the way the car was driving, is a huge plus. Thank you to everyone on our team. They did a very good job. We had the speed, but there were a lot of mistakes; on pit road, myself, overall. We’ll come back stronger for the next round.” What is Daniel’s Amigos?“Daniel’s Amigos was just an idea. I always wanted to do something special for the Latinos, and was just trying to come up with ways to bring this community to the race track and give them a special, cool experience. After several conversations with Coca-Cola and NASCAR, we were able to make it happen in 2019 at Auto Club Speedway in California and it has just grown from here. It has taken a lot of work by Coca-Cola and NASCAR to make this happen, but I am super excited about it.”

chevy racing–nhra–charlotte advance

DETROIT (Sept. 22, 2022) – Chevrolet teams and drivers enter Round 2 of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Countdown to the Championship seeking to add significant points to their totals at a familiar racetrack. When zMAX Dragway hosted the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series four-wide event on May 1, John Force had another weekend to remember by sweeping to the No. 1 Funny Car qualifier honor and going on to record career victory No. 155. Teammate Robert Hight was runner-up.This weekend, the facility in Concord, North Carolina, will be the site of conventional match racing and include the Pro Stock category that did not compete the first time around. Hight, driver of the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS, will aim to put more distance between himself and Funny Car championship pursuers. The front-runner earned his seventh victory of the season and 60th of his career Sept.18 at Maple Grove Raceway. “It’s one down five to go. We have to focus and try to get the same job done again. If you can do that early on, you’re going to put some pressure on these guys,” said Hight, a six-time winner at the track. Force, driving the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Camaro SS, is fourth in the standings – only 16 points out of second place – as he takes aim at his 17th Funny Car world championship. He advanced to the semifinals at Maple Grove in the Countdown opener. Brittany Force, the No. 1 qualifier at Maple Grove, is only nine points behind the Top Fuel points leader as she looks to regain the top spot in the Flav-R-Pac/Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster. She was the No. 1 qualifier and runner-up in the 2021 fall race at zMAX Dragway. Teammate Austin Prock has renewed confidence after picking up his second career Top Fuel win, driving the Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet dragster to victory at Maple Grove Raceway. He is sixth in the standings. Kyle Koretsky won the Pro Stock race last fall at zMAX Dragway, defeating KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson in the final. Both will challenge for the victory this weekend as they look to reel in points leader Erica Enders.
Enders, driving the Melling Performance/Elite Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro SS, claimed her seventh victory of the season and 40th of her career in the Countdown opener to widen her points lead. Anderson, driver of the HendrickCars.com Camaro SS, moved to second in the standings, while Koretsky is third in the Lucas Oil Camaro SS. FS1 will telecast eliminations at 3 p.m. ET Sunday, Sept. 25.
CHEVROLET FROM THE COCKPITTOP FUELBRITTANY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, FLAV-R-PAC/MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET DRAGSTER (four-time winner this season; second in points): “Charlotte is second on the Countdown list and after a challenging weekend our Flav-R-Pac team is ready to get the event started. First priority is to get back on track with solid qualifying. We will be looking for three consistent qualifying runs to get us in the top of the show. Every point matters and we have a shot to pick up some points with good qualifying runs. Race day we need to be going rounds. This Countdown is short and we need to step it up and will be hunting down a win this weekend.” AUSTIN PROCK, JOHN FORCE RACING, MONTANA BRAND/ROCKY MOUNTAIN TWIST CHEVROLET DRAGSTER (won last week at Reading): “(The Maple Grove win) was exactly what we needed. If we want to play for the big trophy at the end of the year we had to win (the Countdown opener). Just really proud of this team. It’s been a trying year and everyone has kept their heads down and still believed in themselves and you keep that attitude and you end up with a Wally. We’ll have more confidence rolling in (to Charlotte). We have some momentum going. People get on rolls and sometimes they stay on a roll and this is a perfect time to do it for us. We’re going to focus on one round at a time like we did in Reading and see how things shake up. Anything is possible.” FUNNY CARJOHN FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, PEAK ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (Charlotte four-wide winner in spring; fourth in points): “Everyone (at John Force Racing) is in the hunt. Robert may just run away with it. But this PEAK Chevy, we’re still in the mix, still five races to go. Brittany will be good, still up in the top. That Montana Brand car, we’ve been working hard to get that car back in the mix, and they’ve got a chance. We head right to Charlotte where we’ll have another shot at it. Keep on trying to get the job done.” ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (seven-time winner this season; points leader): “It’s one down five to go. We have to focus and try to get the same job done again. If you can do that early on, you’re going to put some pressure on these guys. Seven wins is not going to get the championship. We’re going to have to get more than what we have and keep this rolling to win this championship. This is just getting started.” PRO STOCKERICA ENDERS, ELITE MOTORSPORTS, MELLING PERFORMANCE CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (seven-time winner this season; points leader): “This Countdown is going to be a dogfight as it is early single year and giving up that 200-plus point lead coming in doesn’t help. We know we have to capitalize on every moment, execute perfectly. It’s hard to win a round let alone a race. I am stoked to start the Countdown on the right foot, to get that jump on everybody. I would rather that than to make a comeback as the race close out at the end of the year. We just have to continue the trend. Momentum is huge in any sport and we just hope to carry it.” GREG ANDERSON, KB RACING, HENDRICKCARS.COM CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (reigning Pro Stock champion; second in standings): “We lost ground to the leader and we’re second, but we’re not fighting for second. We’re fighting for first. We had a bit of a rough weekend. We didn’t qualify like we should have and just had some things going on that were out of the ordinary. We had some engine issues; the engine was wanting to stumble in low gear right off the starting line to get to 60 foot properly. We’ve been working on things back at the shop. We’ve got to get that figured out because you’re not going to beat these other racers if you’re not 100 percent. (This weekend) the air is going to be good, the weather is going to be perfect, so the cars will be fast. We have to get that 60-foot time back down to where we need it and then we can contend for the win again.” KYLE KORETSKY, KB RACING, LUCAS OIL CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (won 2021 fall race at track; third in standings): “I would like nothing better than to repeat what we did at zMAX Dragway last year. We’re coming off a semifinal round loss at my home track — Maple Grove Raceway — where we qualified third. It was a good weekend to kick off the Countdown, but we want to go more rounds with the Lucas Oil Chevy. We’ll try to do that this weekend in Charlotte.” DALLAS GLENN, KB RACING, RAD TORQUE SYSTEMS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (Gainesville winner): “Racing at home is always something we look forward to. We didn’t get to race here in the spring so I’ve really been waiting to get back to zMAX. We hurt our good engine last weekend but we were able to get it back together with minimal damage right in time for this weekend. We’ve got our eyes on the winner’s circle.” CAMRIE CARUSO, CARUSO FAMILY RACING, TEQUILA COMISARIO CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (first season in Pro Stock; No. 1 qualifier and runner-up at Houston): “We are in the Countdown. We just have to work a little harder to win this championship. I am happy with how well my team has pulled together and hopefully we can do some damage over these next five playoff races.”
Wood Brothers Team To Honor Nancy Wood At Texas
September 22, 2022
Harrison Burton and the No. 21 DEX Imaging team are going to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend to honor a hero. A cancer hero – the late Nancy Wood.
Mrs. Wood, wife of team co-owner Len Wood, will be recognized as part of an initiative by the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, The NASCAR Foundation and AdventHealth. For the past three years the program hasraised awareness and money to be used for research and support of new treatments and to improve the lives of those affected by ovarian and childhood cancers. Her name will appear above the driver’s door of the No. 21 Mustang.
The Cancer Hero program is held in September, which is Childhood and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Mrs. Wood was a popular member of the racing community and a familiar face in the NASCAR garages as she represented the Wood Brothers race team. On race days, she could be found at the team hauler in the garage area, welcoming friends and fans with her friendly smile and outgoing personality.
Even as she battled cancer, Mrs. Wood continued in her role as the “Welcome Wagon” for the family team.
“She never complained,” the team wrote in nominating her for the Cancer Hero program. “She continued to shine. Even on her roughest days, Nancy brightened any room, any track she walked into.
“She fought valiantly. She was beyond grateful for the love and dedication her husband and son showered on her after her diagnosis.”
Nancy Wilds Wood died in December, 2021, after a courageous battle with a rare form of colon cancer.
The DEX Imaging team’s appearance in the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 weekend at Texas Motor Speedway comes at the end of an extra busy week.
Since racing Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, where they finished 16th despite some early tire issues and a spin, Burton and the No. 21 team participated in a two-day test at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Crew chief Brian Wilson said he’s looking forward to Sunday’s 500-miler.
“Texas offers the No. 21 Ford team another return trip to a track this season,” Wilson said, adding that the Homestead test went well for Burton and the crew. “At this test and at the Martinsville test we had competitive speed. What this tells me is that the most important ingredient for our continued progress is laps and a notebook.
“We will have that heading into this weekend.”
He said he was proud of the team’s performance at Bristol under trying circumstances and said he believes the team will work just as hard in the remaining races this year.
“Bristol was a solid result after a challenging start to the race,” he said. “I’m proud of the fight that each team member showed.
“Everyone stayed focused on the task at hand. We clawed our way back into a very respectable finish. Our group will take that same fighting attitude into the rest of the season.”
Practice for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 is set for Saturday at 11:35 a.m. (12:35 p.m. Eastern Time) to be followed by qualifying at 12:20 p.m. (1:20 Eastern).
Sunday’s 334-lap, 500-mile race is scheduled to start just after 2:30 p.m. (3:30 Eastern) with TV coverage on USA Network. Stage breaks are planned for Laps 105 and 201.
AUSTIN PROCK AND MONTANA BRAND / RMT LOOKING TO CARRY MOMENTUM INTO NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS
CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2022) – Austin Prock and the Montana Brand / Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet dragster enter this weekend’s Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway on an upward swing that’s come at the perfect time for the young team. A breakthrough victory last weekend at Maple Grove Raceway catapulted Prock and the Montana Brand / RMT team from 12th to sixth in the NHRA Camping World points standings, well within contention for the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Top Fuel championship. It was their first final round since the season-opening Winternationals and their first win of the season, second of Prock’s career and puts them just 74 points back of the lead, just four racing rounds. “It’s been a trying year, but everyone has kept their heads down and kept at and still believed in themselves. Now we’re back in the fight of things and walking with a little bit of a pep in our step,” Prock said. “Looking forward to Charlotte. We have some good momentum coming in here and if we have another stout weekend, we will have a legitimate shot at the title. We’re going to focus on one round at a time like we did in Reading and see how things shake up. Anything is possible.” In 2019, Prock qualified 13th and had a second-round appearance at the Carolina Nationals and earlier this season Prock exited in the first quad of the Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX after qualifying eighth. Prock will be looking to continue his with the help of veteran crew chiefs Joe Barlam and Rahn Tobler, the latter the only crew chief to have won series championships with three different drivers in two different classes. ET. A second qualifying show airs Sunday at 2 p.m. ET with eliminations coverage at 3 p.m. ET.
BRITTANY FORCE AND FLAV-R-PAC LOOK TO REGAIN LEAD AT NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS
CONCORD, N.C. (Sept 22, 2022) – Brittany Force and the Flav-R-Pac / Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster team are only nine points out of the lead heading to the Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway, the second of six races in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship. Already with four wins this season to equal her career best, Force was the first driver other than Steve Torrence to start the Countdown from No. 1 since 2016 and is well positioned to become just the fourth woman in NHRA pro drag racing history to win multiple championships (after Shirley Muldowney, Enders and Angelle Sampey). “Charlotte is second on the Countdown list and after a challenging weekend our Flav-R-Pac team is ready to get the event started,” Force said. “First priority is to get back on track with solid qualifying. We will be looking for three consistent qualifying runs to get us in the top of the show. Every point matters and we have a shot to pick up some points with good qualifying runs. Race day we need to be going rounds. This Countdown is short and we need to step it up and will be hunting down a win this weekend. In 2021, Force qualified No. 1 and was runner-up at the fall event at zMAX Dragway. Although she has yet to win this race, she does have a win at the 4Wide Nationals at zMAX from the spring of 2016. Force holds the track record for both time (3.662 seconds on both May 14, 2021 at the 4Wide and Sept. 17, 2021) and speed (333.49 mph on May 16, 2021) and has qualified No. 1 twice at this event (2018 and 2021) and on both occasions went to the final round. She also has started from No. 1 two times at the 4Wide (2018 and 2021). ET. A second qualifying show airs Sunday at 2 p.m. ET with eliminations coverage at 3 p.m. ET.
Cadillac Racing driven to succeed in the DPi era
With manufacturer-leading 27 wins in the six seasons, it’s been a productive ride
DETROIT (Sept. 22, 2022) – While five Cadillac DPi-V.R entries will contest the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta to close one era of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Cadillac Racing is simultaneously preparing for the next level of competition in 2023. The Daytona Prototype International (DPi) race cars will be replaced by a joint IMSA-Automobile Club de l’Quest (ACO) car known as Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) for the nine-race IMSA Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) schedule. LMDh cars will also be able to compete in the top class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Starting with the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona in late January, Cadillac Racing will enter two full-season Cadillac V-LMDh cars in the GTP class. Additionally, the Cadillac V-LMDh will compete in the WEC. The 2023 hybrid race car and global competition are new. The passion, resolve and dedication of every Cadillac engineer, team member and driver to defining new performance standards are inherent. A productive ride For Cadillac Racing, which has been immersed in the DPi program since IMSA announced base regulations in 2015, it’s been an exciting and productive ride. The Cadillac DPi-V.R has recorded 27 victories – tops among all manufacturers – and 80 podium finishes in 58 races heading into the final event of the season Oct. 1. From chassis design in early 2015 through final testing in January 2017, hundreds of General Motors associates, GM partners and suppliers have contributed to the program that has realized on-track success and developed technology transferred to award-winning Cadillac V-Series street cars.
“The Cadillac DPi-V.R has proven itself as the most successful race car of its generation,” said Rory Harvey, Vice President Global Cadillac. “With the expansion of Cadillac Racing into the World Endurance Championship, we are excited to continue that success in North America as well as some of the most iconic tracks in the world.” Quick out of the gate Cadillac Racing took the inaugural season of the modern IMSA prototype era by storm in 2017, winning seven races with seven pole positions and claiming every championship trophy. NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon teamed with Jordan Taylor, Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli in a Cadillac DPi-V.R to win the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona. In 2018, Cadillac followed with four wins, three pole positions and again earning every championship trophy. In 2019, Cadillac won its third Rolex 24 At Daytona in as many years and secured the IMSA DPi Endurance Cup and Endurance Driver Championship on the strength of four wins. In 2020, Cadillac recorded three victories and again won the Endurance Driver Championship. In 2021, Cadillac drivers posted five wins and claimed the Manufacturer Championship, Driver Championship and Team Championship. Said seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, who will co-drive the No. 48 Ally Cadillac DPi-V.R in the season finale: “In one of these DPi Cadillacs, the pace and effort you have to drive around that racetrack is quite impressive, especially comparing it to my days in NASCAR. Some of the braking zones, the Bus Stop and the Carousel, it’s just mind-blowing how fast these cars can travel through those tight little areas.” Fastest prototype in the world This season, Cadillac Racing has recorded four victories – including podium sweeps at Sebring and Long Beach — and four record-setting pole starts ahead of the Petit Le Mans.“I think it’s been an amazing time with the Cadillac DPi. It’s one of those cars that everybody in Europe says how beautiful it is, how fast it looks and it makes me proud to show pictures of it to people who don’t know motorsports,” said Renger van der Zande, who has three victories this season as co-driver of the No. 01 V-Performance Academy Cadillac DPi-V.R and eight overall since 2018 in a Cadillac DPi-V.R. “To be going into that last race is something special. Every in-lap after the race I felt I had to enjoy the last dance around the track with this car because I’ve been driving it since 2018. It’s the fastest prototype in the world at the moment and it does feel like it, especially at Road Atlanta.” Added reigning IMSA champion Pipo Derani, co-driver of the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R who has six total wins in a Cadillac DPi-V.R since 2019: “The DPi era has been a fantastic regulation to be a part of as a driver because you get the luxury often to drive the perfect car. The cars most likely will be the ones that we’ll look back on in a few years as one of the quickest cars we’ve ever driven. For me, a fantastic time in my career when I achieved so much. Great time and looking forward to the future with Cadillac.” Passion pushed Cadillac into motorsports in 2004 and it has continued through the DPi years. With the dawn of a new era of sports car racing, passion will continue to drive Cadillac Racing to new heights.

The Murray-Marks #19 pilot is the only of these four kings to have previously conquered the wings at 4-Crown, doing so during the 2018 running.King Tyler XXXVIII has made his name by creating a reign unlike any other when it comes to Earl’s house. Tyler Courtney, of Indianapolis, IN, owns a total of 12 triumphs at the track with wins in three pillars (USAC Non-Wing, USAC Midget, USAC Silver Crown) of the 4-Crown Nationals. The current All Star Circuit of Champions points leader hopes to add a winged win to his resume at the event this weekend in the Clauson-Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #7BC.King Donny XXXV has ruled Eldora in the seasons of April, May, and July to total 17 wins at the track owned by his boss, Tony Stewart, but a September score has always eluded the 10-time World of Outlaws champion. Donny Schatz, of Fargo, ND, owns six top-five finishes and two runner-up results through 12 starts at the 4-Crown in his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Ford Performance #15. King Brad XXXVI hasn’t stood atop the stage in Rossburg, OH since his second crowning in 2019, and hopes to not only end that streak but his tough spell of runs with a wing on top during 4-Crown. Brad Sweet is a former winner of the event during his younger days in USAC Midgets and USAC Sprint Cars, but he’s struggled with zero top-five finishes through 10 World of Outlaws starts at The Big E in September.SHARKS IN SEPTEMBER: For Shark Racing, they prefer to be woken up when September begins and hopes it never ends. The Hanover, PA team spearheaded by Hall of Famer Bobby Allen has finished 1-2 in three World of Outlaws events since hitting the road in 2014, and the latter two have happened in back-to-back fashion over the last two weeks in California.Jacob Allen, amid a career-best 11 straight top-10 finishes (best active streak, too), led the first occurrence by topping a photo finish to bank $25,000 with the biggest win of his life at the Gold Cup Race of Champions. Logan Schuchart, a winner in three of the last 10 outings, followed him six days later by scoring a heated $21,000 Feature at the Tom Tarlton Classic.Schuchart also enters this weekend as the two-time and defending winner of the World of Outlaws portion at the 4-Crown Nationals. The DuraMAX Oil, Drydene Performance Products #1S goes for a third-straight September score at Eldora Speedway on Friday, which would bring him within one of Joey Saldana’s event record of four wins.THE BUCKEYE BULLET: A return to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH on Saturday night brings us the return of Dave Blaney, the 1995 World of Outlaws champion, who earned his first Series win in 24 years when the track returned to the schedule last year. At 59 years old, “The Buckeye Bullet” continues to amaze behind the wheel, earning a start in both the Historical Big 1 and Kings Royal earlier this summer at Eldora.Blaney, who earned his 95th career win with a stunning last-lap pass over Sheldon Haudenschild, will be joined by the likes of A.J. Flick, of Apollo, PA, and George Hobaugh, of Chicora, PA, both of whom are Sharon winners this season.O-H… A-U-D: The Buckeye State faithful are set to enjoy the final chance this season to watch their native gasser, Sheldon Haudenschild, of Wooster, OH, compete in his home state. “The Wild Child’s Child” has already claimed three of his 31 career World of Outlaws wins inside state lines and has a strong chance to grow that number this weekend aboard the Stenhouse Jr. / Marshall Racing, NOS Energy Drink #17.A nine-time winner in 2022 with The Greatest Show on Dirt, Haudenschild heads home with high hopes of reaching the double-digit mark for the first time in his young, but storied career. The 29-year-old earned his first-ever Eldora Speedway victory last year and led all but one lap in the Series’ return to Sharon Speedway last spring.STILL CHASING: James McFadden earned his ninth podium of the season last week in California, but he’s still chasing his first win in the Roth Motorsports #83 – which would be the 99th for owners Dennis & Teresa Roth with the World of Outlaws. The Australian has 11 more chances to change that as he hopes to avoid joining Jac Haudenschild (17 in ’93), Bobby Allen (11 in ’84), Tim Shaffer (11 in ’07), Mark Kinser (10 in ’87), Johnny Herrera (10 in ’92), and Daryn Pittman (10 in ’04) as the only seven men in history with 10-plus podiums and zero wins in a single season. The good news is that J-Mac heads for two tracks – Eldora and Sharon – where he’s shined before with both venues offering a career-best second-place effort in the past.THIS WEEKEND AT A GLANCEWHEN AND WHERE Friday, September 23 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH Saturday, September 24 at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OHON THE INTERNET World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Twitter – @WorldofOutlaws Instagram – @WoOSprint Facebook – Facebook.com/WorldofOutlawsSprintCarSeries YouTube – Youtube.com/WorldofOutlaws DIRTVision – DIRTVision.com – Platinum annual FAST PASS for $299 or monthly FAST PASS for $39/monthCURRENT CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS (63/74 Races): 1. 49-Brad Sweet (7,784 PTS); A NEW MINDSET: Georgia’s Dale McDowell Prepares for Stateline Showdown, Reflects on 2022 Season
The Chickamauga, GA driver joins the World of Outlaws Late Models this weekend at Boyd’s Speedway
RINGGOLD, GA– September 21, 2022– Dale McDowell encountered something new at the beginning of 2022—a different mindset.
One year after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Chickamauga, GA driver has a new appreciation for dirt Late Model racing. An appreciation he’s taking in one race at a time.
The “Mac Daddy” takes that approach home this weekend when the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series visits Boyd’s Speedway Sept. 23-24 for the inaugural Stateline Showdown.
McDowell said he knows he’s moving into the twilight of his career and that the number of opportunities to find Victory Lane are getting smaller.
“When you’re younger, when you have a bad weekend, or you don’t get to go, you’re like, I’ll get them next time,” McDowell said. “So those next times are running farther apart, so I’m just trying to take it in.”
“We have good partners. Shane (McDowell, his brother), Sarah (McDowell, his sister-in-law), and Landon do a great job with the race team. So, I’m just kind of taking it in and appreciating everything about the sport and what we’ve been involved in, and it’s just giving me a different outlook on it.”
The original member of the World of Outlaws Late Models Dirty Dozen kicked off his new outlook in style, reaching Victory Lane in the Series opener at Volusia Speedway Park in January.
Not wasn’t only a moment of triumph for the “Mac Daddy” but also a moment of appreciation.
“I think just going through what we went through and the uncertainty of what our future was going to be, it definitely brought in a breath of fresh air when I was able to get back in the car,” McDowell said. “It just makes you appreciate it more and not take it for granted as much, obviously, when you go through something like that.
“We’ve had a really good year, been very blessed with my health, and we’ve been fortunate to have a good year.”
Entering this weekend’s Stateline Showdown at Boyd’s, McDowell has seven wins—including two with the World of Outlaws Late Models and a World 100 preliminary victory at Eldora earlier this month.
In Victory Lane at Eldora, McDowell mentioned how grateful he was to return to the iconic stage, not knowing how many more chances he’d have to get there.
“I feel like now I look at these places like I’m not going to be able to come there as often,” McDowell said. “It’s toward the end of how many times I can go there and compete. I think going through what I went through it’s appreciating my opportunity that’s out there to help me get to these races. “
The momentum from that preliminary win carries him into Boyd’s this weekend—a track close to his hometown.
McDowell’s traveling schedule hasn’t allowed him to visit often, but he has found success. He had two podium finishes in Southern All-Star Series appearances in 2021.
However, he’s excited about getting the chance to race 25 minutes from Chickamauga.
“I really think it’s awesome to bring a show like this to our hometown,” McDowell said. “I haven’t raced there nearly as much as I’ve liked to, just because I’ve traveled to other events. But being able to race this close to home is fun. Hopefully, there’s a lot of good guys coming in, so we have a good showing, so we’ll do our best and give it our best shot.
“We’ve always had stiff competition here in the Southeast around the Chattanooga area and Atlanta area. A lot of good short-track guys have come from this area. They cut their teeth against stiff competition, and it makes them good.”
The Georgia driver hopes his new mindset in 2022 gives him another moment to appreciate this season—a third World of Outlaws CASE Late Models win.
McDowell will join The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA, for the inaugural Stateline Showdown Sept. 23-24.
Dominic Scelzi Posts Pair of Top 10s During World of Outlaws West Coast Swing
Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2022) – Dominic Scelzi is eager to move forward following a frustrating West Coast swing with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
“I was disappointed with our performance throughout the Outlaws swing,” he said. “We didn’t have momentum on our side, yellow flags fall our way or things go our way. It was unfortunate because that’s the month we wanted to have the most success. We just missed it on the car some nights and I made some mistakes.

“The best thing to do after a tough month of racing is to put your head down and get back to work. We have a busy two months ahead in October and November. I want to end the season strong. We’re leading the NARC points and want to close out a second straight championship. We have eight wins and want to get over the 10-win mark.”
Scelzi is taking the good out of the World of Outlaws three-weekend swing through Washington and California. He highlighted the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., with a 10th-place result on Sept. 2.
“We went out late in qualifying and the track fell off and we didn’t qualify well,” he said. “But in the heat race we were good and advanced from sixth to fourth. In the feature I got into the fence off turn two and knocked the Jacob’s Ladder off of it. From that point it was hard to move forward, but we were able to hold our own for a top 10.”
Scelzi charged from 20th to 13th at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on Sept. 5 and he posted a pair of top 15s the following weekend during the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.
Scelzi’s best outing during the World of Outlaws swing was last Friday at Keller Auto Speedway, where he rallied from eighth to fifth place in a heat race and from 17th to ninth during the Tom Tarlton Classic main event.
“The track almost seemed like it had sand on it,” he said. “It wasn’t a normal Hanford. It was a tough track condition. I think it helped with us having experience there even though the track conditions were different. We were good in the main event and made good decisions. All in all, it was good to end the Outlaws swing with our best night.”
The team also posted a podium performance the previous night during a 360ci winged sprint car show at Keller Auto Speedway, where Scelzi set quick time during qualifying, gained a spot to finish third in a heat race and hustled from seventh to third in the A Main.
Scelzi plans to take this weekend off before resuming competition Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Silver Dollar Speedway during the Fall Nationals.

Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Nationals: The Road to the Championship for ARP Super Stock Diesel Trucks and Lightweight Super Stock Tractors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT: Bryan Lively (rblively@hotmail.com)
Charlestown, IN (September 20, 2022) – As we draw closer to the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Nationals this coming weekend, we’ll place our eye on each class before the score is settled at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks, the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. Some points races have a clear winner while others will go down to the wire for a championship; there is however much to explore within each division regardless of those different situations. The ARP title-sponsored Super Stock Diesel Trucks and Lightweight Super Stock Tractors are textbook examples of two classes with very different stories leading into Wheatland. Both classes are slated to compete in session one at Wheatland on Friday, September 23rd. The ARP Super Stock Diesel Trucks have defending points champ Erik Stacey and the SmokinYa HD Chevy in the lead coming into the Pro Pulling Nationals—but his lead is far from secure. A scant 14 points behind Stacey is the Caretaker Dodge of Chase Eller. While Stacey has used the strength of four wins and four top-five finishes build his resume, Eller has been outside the top five only twice all season. With a cast of highly competitive machines in the class, including former class champ and current third place points holder Kent Crowder and the Scheid Diesel Dodge, this class could be decided on the final hook! For ARP Lightweight Super Stocks, the final result is clear—sort of. It isn’t a matter of Team Chizek taking the points title, it’s a matter of which tractor gets the accolades, as the Considered Armed and Dangerous and Armed and Dangerous-Excessive Force are tied atop the leaderboard coming into this weekend. Those Terry Blackbourn-piloted CaseIH machines will duel it out to declare the champion. The suspense comes from the potential outcome of the third and fourth place spots where the Armed and Dangerous-Deadly Force CaseIH driven by Josh Blackbourn holds a slim 12-point lead on the Field Sobriety CaseIH of Bobby Jones. As unpredictable and exciting as this class can be, that is a race-within-a-race to watch! We highly encourage you to attend this event in person but if you’re unable to attend, the MAVTV studio production crew will be on hand to stream the action live on www.FloRacing.com and for future broadcast on MAVTV. Gates open at Lucas Oil Speedway at 4pm CDT with action starting at 7pm on Friday night and 6pm on Saturday. Ticketing option information is available at www.LucasOilSpeedway.com with discount packages for Seniors and Families. Join us for this spectacular year-end show, in person or online. In the mean time, follow along with us as we delve further into each class through our social media outlets coming into Championship Weekend!
Greg Anderson, Dave Densmore Named Texas Motorplex Legends
ENNIS, Texas (September 20, 2022) — Pro Stock legend Greg Anderson and award-winning drag racing publicist Dave Densmore will be recognized as Texas Motorplex Legends during the opening ceremonies of the 37th annual Texas NHRA Fall Nationals. Anderson is the winningest Pro Stock driver in Texas Motorplex history with six Texas Fall Nationals titles, including his historic 99th career win last year. Densmore has been one of the most respected and influential drag racing publicists for over four decades working for the sanctioning body as well as the biggest names in drag racing.
“I have known Dave Densmore my entire drag racing career and no PR person has had a bigger impact on the coverage our sport has received. Greg has won the Texas Fall Nationals more than any other Pro Stock driver in history and has established himself as the best Pro Stock driver in history,” said Billy Meyer, Texas Motorplex co-owner. “Honoring these two men as Texas Motorplex Legends was an easy decision because of their impact at Texas Motorplex but also across the sport of drag racing.”
Anderson’s Pro Stock career took root as a crew member – and then crew chief – for legendary driver Warren Johnson. Anderson was on board at Warren Johnson Enterprises for 12 years and three of Johnson’s six NHRA championships (1992, 1993, and 1995). In 1998, Anderson took the reins of father-in-law Troy Humphrey’s Pro Stock car, and in 2000 he drove part-time and consulted for Pro Stock veteran Mark Pawuk.
Las Vegas-based Ken Black, along with then-partner George Marnell, added Anderson to their team’s roster as crew chief and part-time driver in 2001, and the chemistry was immediately evident. KB Racing was formed by Black with Anderson in 2002 and since that union Anderson has won 100 Pro Stock national event races and five NHRA Pro Stock world championships. His six titles at the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals (2003, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2019 and 2021) are most by any Pro Stock driver. Anderson is the winningest driver of all time in the ultra-competitive category of highly horse-powered factory hot rods.
“I have to thank Billy Meyer and Christie Meyer Johnson for this honor,” said Anderson. “Winning at Texas Motorplex is always special. When they give you that cowboy hat it is pretty cool and the Texas fans are some of the best in the country. I have been lucky to have a lot of success in Texas and last year’s win was one for the record books.”
Densmore’s career in motorsport began as a writer for the Amarillo (Tex.) Globe-News where he covered the NHRA Finals in the 1970s. He moved from the newspaper side to the publicity side when he joined NHRA’s Publicity Department and then formed Denswood Sports Marketing in 1982 with good friend Steve Earwood. His clients have been the sport’s top names including Raymond Beadle, Gary Beck, Kenny Bernstein, Candies & Hughes, John Force Racing, Billy Meyer, Reher & Morrison, and Steve Torrence. Densmore received the prestigious Jim Chapman Award for Excellence in Motorsport Public Relations in 2007.
For over 25 years Densmore was the primary spokesperson for drag racing legend John Force and he worked beside Force as he won sixteen Funny Car championships including ten in a row. Densmore oversaw the publicity efforts for multiple Fall Nationals wins by Force and other drivers including Texans Steve and Billy Torrence. He has continued to be a publicity and public relations consultant for Texas Motorplex as well as co-owners Billy Meyer and Christie Meyer Johnson in recent years.
“I really don’t think I deserve to be a Legend. I have been fortunate to work with some great teams and drivers, but I liked being in the background,” said Densmore. “I remember when Billy opened the Texas Motorplex and it changed the sport. I have been fortunate to see so many great races and celebrate great wins in Ennis. This is a huge honor and I have to thank Billy and Christie for thinking of me.”
The Texas NHRA Fall Nationals will be contested from October 14-16, 2022, with tickets available at www.stampedeofspeed.com. On Friday, October 14, Texas Motorplex will host “Friday Night Live” a full evening of speed, spectacular qualifying action and exhibition runs with over $30,000 offered in low ET bonuses to the pro teams. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with the ground pounding 330 mph racing action from Top Fuel dragster and Nitro Funny Cars along with Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle as part of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series.

ELITE MOTORSPORTS HOPES TO CONTINUE WINNING MOMENTUM IN NORTH CAROLINA
![]() |
Elite Motorsports Pre-Race Preview
NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series CONCORD, N.C. (September 20, 2022) – Elite Motorsports, the largest professional race team in the NHRA, is ready to continue the momentum they gained at the first event of the Countdown to the Championship, NHRA’s version of the playoffs, as they travel to the Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway this weekend. The powerful Pro Stock team dominated the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals last weekend at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa. Erica Enders won her seventh event title of the season and 40th of her career in an all-Elite final round against her teammate Troy Coughlin Jr. while Bo Butner picked up his first No. 1 qualifier of the season. As they return to zMAX this week, the team is in a great position. Enders is experiencing the best season of her career so far, and pulling out ahead of the competition early certainly helped as the four-time Pro Stock world champion is focused on earning her fifth world title. “We were absolutely thrilled to start the countdown off on the right foot,” said Enders. “As in most sports, momentum is huge for us. We hope to carry that through the remaining five events of the season. We always enjoy running in Charlotte as it serves as a home base for our major sponsors, Gallagher and Peoplease. We have a great race car right now and I’m driving well. So we’re are going to capitalize on that every chance we get.” Every round counts right now as the Pro Stock field is incredibly competitive this year. With Coughlin’s runner-up finish in Reading, he moved up to fourth in the points standings and the talented driver is as focused as ever on making a strong Countdown performance. Bo Butner got a new car a few races ago and clearly that was the change that the former Pro Stock world champion needed. He dominated qualifying at Maple Grove, moving him up a couple spots in the points. Aaron Stanfield has been a consistent performer all week and will be one to watch in the Countdown as his quiet focus and ability to remain calm under pressure will certainly come in handy through the weeks to come. Fernando Cuadra Sr., the patriarch of the fan-favorite Cuadra Boys, debuted a new car in Reading. And his Corral Boots Camaro is in the process of being completely rewired before it rolls through the gate at zMAX Dragway for the second race of the Countdown. His sons, Fernando Jr. and Cristian, have been improving all season and they will definitely be ones to watch as the season continues.
FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by D-Wagon After struggling in the first part of the season, Pro Mod standout Lyle Barnett is coming off a monumental win at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Barnett plans to parlay that momentum into a stellar performance this weekend in North Carolina. zMAX Dragway is the home track for Barnett and he’s looking forward to turning on win lights in front of a hometown crowd. The Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals will take place at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C. September 23-25. ***

Cadillac Racing announced Sept. 20 its driver roster for the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season — the first for the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class. Reigning IMSA DPi champion Pipo Derani will co-drive an Action Express Racing-prepared Cadillac V-LMDh car with Alexander Sims, while Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande return as co-drivers of a Chip Ganassi Racing-prepared Cadillac V-LMDh. Sims and Derani met with the media Sept. 20 via Zoom conference. Full transcript (by driver):
ALEXANDER SIMSYOU’VE HAD A RELATIONSHIP WITH GM ON THE CORVETTE SIDE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY WITH THE CADILLAC V-LMDH?“I’m super-excited about this opportunity. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind situation since Le Mans, which ended in disappointment when things were going the right way for us with Corvette. Speaking to (GM sports car racing program manager) Laura (Wontrop Klauser) after the race about how things went and she put us in touch with Action Express and conversations went pretty positive from the start. I was able to get over to Atlanta to do a test with Pipo and the team. It was a short day in the DPi car, but it was a wonderful thing to drive. Everything went well thankfully, and we were able to agree to things for next year, which is an absolute dream come true from my point of view. I’m really looking forward to the challenge. I’m joining an incredibly experienced group of people at Action Express – a group of engineers and Pipo who have had success in the past – and hopefully I can learn quickly from them and slot in and do a decent job.” HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PUTTIG YOUR SOLE FOCUS ON SPORTS CAR RACING AFTER DOING FORMULA E?“I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t think I shied away from the fact that Formula E has been an interesting time for me, but ultimately concluded that it’s not the championship that fits with me in a sporting sense. I couldn’t get my head around it and ultimately didn’t want to be there anymore and wanted to get back to IMSA racing. To be in this position to basically get exactly what I wanted and be racing in the top class for the first time is genuinely a dram come true. I loved the two years that I did in IMSA – the most enjoyable form of racing that I’ve done. The rules format tends to keep you in the races if you’re struggling, if you’ve had issues there are so many times where you can get back in the race after a hiccup. And even if you’re in a strong position and you’re fast, it’s unlikely that you’re ever just going to sail away for two hours ahead of the field. There’s always going to be safety cars, there’s always going to be close racing to keep you on your toes.” ARE YOU NOW EXCLUSIVE TO GM OR DO YOU STILL HAVE A DEAL WITH BMW?“That’s yet to be fully decided, but my absolute main focus is going to be IMSA with Cadillac.” WERE YOU PURSUING THIS AS YOUR PRIMARY FOCUS?“This has been my sole focus, honestly. This year and last year that I raced with Corvette was a great introduction to the GM Racing program. All the people on it were a joy to work with. Obviously, the teams are different but the people at the top are the same and to be able to continue working with them is my goal.” WAS MAKING THE MOVE TO THE TOP LEVEL A PRIORITY FOR YOU?“Honestly, it wasn’t the main priority when deciding to leave Formula E. The priority was to get back to racing that I enjoyed, which was racing in IMSA. If that were in GT or prototypes, the same fulfillment in that criteria would have been there. When prototypes were discussed, the opportunity for a race driver is pretty exciting to run in the top class of any championship. It’s been a while since I’ve driven a prototype. I drove LMP2 in ALMS and a few WEC races quite a few years ago. The more higher downforce driving is something that’s not too far away from my current situation, but obviously driving in Formula E is somewhat different. To get back to higher downforce, fast racing where you’re generally always going to be the leader in terms of speed of class, not having to look into your mirrors always – which is a little bit of a challenge in a GT car – is going to be nice and focus forward. I’m going to need that focus because things come up pretty fast in these cars; they’re super quick. It’s a bit of an adjustment period in these test days we’ve got, but that’s the reason why we’ve got them and I’ll get up to speed for the first race.” ARE THERE SOME THING YOU LEARNED IN FORMULA E THAT MIGHT BE ADVANTAGEOUS TO THE LMDH CAR?“In terms of not getting my head around it, it’s just in terms of being able to achieve top performance consistently. With four years in Formula E with two different manufacturers, I’ve gone through quite an extensive development process with both of them. Understood quite a few things about the systems that are used in Formula E, which probably gives me just a decent technical base knowledge. I’m under no illusions that LMDh GTP racing is not Formula E. Hybrid systems have some similarities to a full electric drive, but there’s not the same as well. They have their own set of challenges. I’m not coming into this that I know all and can teach people how to do their jobs. I guess it just helps when some engineers are having discussions about various systems and the way some things work, I guess I have a bit of a head start and might the basics of how things are working. There are a lot of challenges. You don’t stop learning. So far, it’s proven useful at times to have some knowledge of electric drive systems.” HOW HAS PIPO HELPED YOU DURING TESTING?“It’s one of those things where you’re never quite sure until you start driving, and I tend to have a bit of self-doubt sometimes. Although I raced at a decent level ion F3 some years back, driven GTs and Formula E, I was thinking I hope this comes back to me quickly. Thankfully, it all did. It’s not like I’m a sorted, polished driver in every aspect in high downforce racing just yet but the basics are coming back. Pipo has been really helpful in being able to ask and giving honest answers about some of the challenges and whatever hurdle I’m facing during testing. It generally tends to be small things, but it’s small things that we have to focus on to optimize our performance to be right at the front which is what we want to do.” ANY MEMORABLE COMPETITIVE RACES AGAINST EACH OTHER IN F3?“I couldn’t believe when we looked back at the Vallelunga race that I couldn’t remember racing (Derani). We must not have been together on track. But I do remember Macua, following (Derani) for far too many laps not being able to pass. That was quite frustrating.” |
PIPO DERANIHOW EXCITED ARE YOU TO WELCOME ALEX TO THE TEAM AND GET GOING WITH THE CADILLAC V-LMDH?“Alex has been a guy that I raced against in Formula 3, so we’ve known each other for a little while. Lots of respect, so whenever his name showed up and when he tested it definitely was a no-brainer. Whenever the team asked what I thought about him, I said, ‘Yeah, go for it. He’s very good.’ I think he’s going to help us a lot over the development of the new car with his electric and hybrid experience. That’s a plus as well, having Alex come on board with so much experience. We’ve started testing already the new car and it’s great to see you can develop basically from scratch and put your input into every single detail of what’s going to possibly be the most exciting time in endurance racing over the next few years. Looking forward to it. We have one more race with the DPi, so I’m going to be looking to enjoy. It’s a car that has had so much success. It’s a car that has given me one Sebring win, one Petit, an overall championship and an endurance championship, so it was a great time in my career to have had the chance to drive the Cadillac DPi-V.R. Trying to enjoy the last race at Petit, which is a very special race and nice track to be at for a farewell drive – if I can put it like that. Trying to enjoy that moment and very much looking forward to what the future brings. Me and Alex have had a little experience already driving and going testing with the new car and so far whatever we share has been very positive. And it’s good we can get to do that in a non-pressure environment and get to learn each other, what we want from each other and what we can improve on to become a strong pairing of drivers for the Action Express Cadillac GTP program next year.” HOW ARE YOU ADJUSTING TO THE VARIETY OF CO-DRIVERS?“I think it’s going to be great to have Alex onboard. Over the last three years before the beginning of this year it was pretty straightforward with Felipe (Nasr). We developed a relationship form the very beginning testing and even before the season of 2019 started. That relationship as a racing partner just evolved over the three years, and it got to the point where it was very good. I think once you start that relationship from the very beginning, it’s easy to develop and improve as a pair for the better result. It’s definitely much harder to do that in the middle of the season like I had to do this year. It’s not ideal. Looking to the future now with Alex joining us and be able to be involved in the development and testing from the beginning like we have already, it’s just going to help. By the time we get to Daytona, I’m sure it’s going to be smooth, and we’ll be thinking only about performance. At the moment, I think it’s been going very well and we’re already into that phase of our relationship. His driving style is in a way similar to mine, which is a help. We seem to get more or less the same things from the car to go quick and it’s been quite a pleasure to be sharing and learning from him as well things he’s going to bring on to the program from experiences he’s had from other series. And I’m sure from his side as well getting a little updated to the high downforce cars, which I’ve been driving over the last four years. So, I think it’s a plus and plus that we can use from each other and be strong from the very beginning of next season. I’m looking forward to that. Whatever happened over the course of 2022 was not ideal. But, nevertheless, in difficult moments I was always focused on trying to do the best I could for the team, and I believe I was able to do that. Now looking forward to the future.” HOW CAN YOU HELP OR DOES ALEX NEED TO BE BROUGHT ALONG MORE QUICKLY IN GETTING UP TO SPEED WITH THE PROTOTYPES?“I think it’s more fine tuning. He’s been driving Formula E, which doesn’t have as much downforce. He was brought up racing Formula 3 in Europe, where it’s a very high downforce car and the driving style is very similar to the DPi and the new Cadillac V-LMDh GTP car. Really, the first test he was asking a couple of things. But you can see that the guy who’s had the formation he’s had in his early days definitely pays dividends whenever he jumps into a high downforce car. It’s almost like riding a bicycle. It took him just a couple of laps and he was up there already. I think he wanted to ask me a few questions just to make me feel important. He’s been doing great. He’s got it pretty much sorted.” ANY MEMORABLE COMPETITIVE RACES AGAINST EACH OTHER IN F3?“There’s a funny story we were discussing. 2013 wasn’t an easy year for my team, but I was telling Alex that I had a strong weekend at Vallelunga in Italy. Actually, that was the strongest weekend I had all year. We had three races per weekend back then and I had two podiums and started on the front row over a 32-car grid or something. He said, ‘No way, that was my strongest weekend as well.’ We checked and found pictures of us sharing the podium twice on that same weekend. And in Macau, where I think we finished one after another in 2013. It’s good pictures to have.” |
JOSH HART READY TO DEFEND BETWAY CAROLINA NATIONALS TITLE
OCALA, FL (September 20, 2022) — Josh Hart and the R+L Carriers Top Fuel team will head to zMax Dragway on a mission to defend their 2021 title and battle their way to the top of the Top Fuel Countdown field. The second race of the NHRA Countdown, the Betway Carolina NHRA Nationals, is one that Hart is all too familiar with thanks to his rookie season victory just over a year ago. Hart qualified No. 7 and raced his way through Alex Laughlin in the first round and then three Countdown contenders Mike Salinas, Justin Ashley and Brittany Force to earn the second Top Fuel victory of his young career. The win was significant because Hart was wrapping up his rookie season racing only half of the national events and taking on teams fighting for the championship.
“We have learned a lot this season and we are still a young team,” said Hart. “The success we had in my rookie year was not a fluke and we have a championship caliber group. Thanks to R+L Carriers, TechNet and all our sponsors I am living my dream of racing against the best Top Fuel teams in the world. We are going to keep proving that we belong. Charlotte is a great facility and I can’t wait to get back there and start turning on win lights.”

This season Hart invested in a new dragster and additional parts to make a run at the full schedule and the Camping World Drag Racing Series Top Fuel championship. With crew chief Ron Douglas making the tuning calls and Hart continuing to develop as a top-tier driver the R+L Carriers team has been in the mix throughout the season. They entered the Countdown as the No. 5 seed but an early exit at the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals in Reading last weekend was a setback to their championship pursuit. The determined and focused Hart, who built several businesses most notably Burnyzz Speed Shop in Ocala, Florida, from an initial nest egg of $300, is undeterred with five races remaining in the playoffs.
“We didn’t start the Countdown the way we planned but this R+L Carriers team isn’t hanging our heads,” said Hart. “We won this race last year and I have a lot of confidence we can do that again. We have to start making up rounds, but I truly believe anything is possible. Our goal is to make quick runs starting on Friday night and start chipping away at the points lead.”
Prior to the rare early loss in Reading Hart had advanced out of the first round in the previous seven consecutive races including a runner-up finish at the Norwalk Nationals and a semifinal finish at the Mile High Nationals, one of the toughest races on the tour for a young team. Throughout this first full-time season Hart has had the support of R+L Carriers as well as TechNet. At the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis Hart raced a pink Brakes for Breasts Top Fuel dragster to raise aware for breast cancer research. Fans and supporters can visit their local TechNet repair shop to give or get up to $40 on their qualifying brake service. Learn more about the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund. All the funds raised will go towards the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund.
At the races Hart continues to promote career opportunities with primary sponsor R+L Carriers. Throughout the weekend Hart hosts R+L Carriers employees and guests as well as fans interested in learning about the diverse jobs available across the country with a family owned and operated company that has been in business over five decades. The stability of his marketing partnerships combined with a team that is improving every race has Hart excited about the next five races of the playoffs and his championship aspirations.
“My goal is to race the best of the best and win races and championships,” said Hart. “Every race we put all our efforts into making the quickest runs possible and give everything we can on the track. In the pits we want to make sure our guests are having a good time and the NHRA fans are getting a great experience. I love to meet new fans across the country. It will be cool to be back in Charlotte as the defending event winner. A lot of people talked to us in the spring when we were here for the four-wide race and I hope to see them back in a couple days. This is the time of year when the racing is even more exciting.”
Hart and the R+L Carriers Top Fuel team will have three qualifying sessions this weekend to earn a spot in the 16-car field. The race will start at noon ET on Sunday with Fox broadcasting the race nationals. Fans can check their local listings for air times.
