WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Pro Late Model Stars Ready to Shine at Volusia’s DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals

Whitener, Hedgecock, Bronson and more will compete for $10,000 grand prize Saturday night

BARBERVILLE, FL – Jan. 17, 2023 – The biggest Crate Late Model bash of the winter racing season is here. The fourth annual DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals hits Volusia Speedway Park this Wednesday to Saturday, Jan. 18-21, with a jam-packed field of talent expected in the DIRTcar Pro Late Model division.

It’s an all-new format for the Pro Late Models this year, racing alongside the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series and the local 602 Late Models. The new format focuses on the accrual of points over a series of Qualifying Features on Thursday and Friday, lined up by Hot Lap/Qualifying times on each night. Those points totals will lock the top-20 drivers into the Championship Feature on Saturday and take an additional number of drivers in from the Last Chance Showdowns.

Saturday concludes with a 30-lap, $10,000-to-win Feature and the crowning of a DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals points champion, awarded to the driver with the most Feature points accumulated over the weekend.

Tickets are on sale now at WorldofOutlaws.com and will be available at the gate on race day. If you can’t be at the track, stream every lap live on your device with a subscription to DIRTVision.

Here are the top storylines going into the fourth annual DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals:

WRECKERS TO CHECKERS – It was one year ago this Friday when Mark Whitener pulled off the biggest comeback win in Sunshine Nationals history.

Whitener, the veteran Super and Crate Late Model racer from Middleburg, FL, rolled his Super Late Model into the Turn 1 wall during World of Outlaws Late Model competition on Thursday night of last year’s event. Less than 24 hours later, he was driving his DIRTcar Pro Late Model into Sunshine Nationals Victory Lane for the first time in his career, overcoming brake issues in the closing laps of the Feature to hold on for the win and complete the turnaround.

He’ll be back on both rosters again this weekend as one of the only owner/drivers pulling double duty in his black/orange Baker Farms #5. Armed with years of 604 Chevy Performance Crate engine and open-engine Late Model experience, Whitener currently holds the best chance he’s ever had at the $10,000 grand prize on Saturday night, coming off a 10-win season in 604 Late Model competition.

THE CHAMP RETURNS – He’s been away since 2021, but this weekend, inaugural DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals Pro Late Model champion Kyle Bronson is back on the DIRTcar Pro Late Model roster.

The 32-year-old Super Late Model veteran from Brandon, FL, will pull double duty in both the Pro Late Model and World of Outlaws Late Model divisions, chasing his second career event points title. Bronson put on a display of dominance in 2020, sweeping all three Pro Late Model Features before coming back in 2021 and winning the $10,000 finale.

Bronson’s track record at Volusia is favorable, posting multiple Super Late Model, Crate Late Model and UMP Modified wins at the venue in his many years behind the wheel.

ICE BOWLER – Jason Welshan is taking his 2023 Ice Bowl championship with him to the shores of eastern Florida for a shot at Sunshine Nationals glory.

A big win on the Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series at Talladega Short Track two weekends ago brings Welshan, the 43-year-old racer/fabricator from Maryville, TN, into Volusia with a big swing of momentum after topping the 41-car field on Jan. 7.

As the owner and founder of his own Late Model chassis brand, Savage Chassis in Rockford, TN, Welshan has refined the technical makeup of his cars and maximized its potential, capturing the 2022 Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series championship with four Feature wins over the course of the season.

ANOTHER SHOT – Defending CRUSA Winter Challenge Series champion Cory Hedgecock has come to Volusia for every edition of the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals but has been shut out of Victory Lane each time. This year, he’s come to avenge his past defeats at the hands of his biggest foes.

Hedgecock, the two-time CRUSA Dirt Late Model Series champion from Loudon, TN, finished eighth in the Saturday finale in 2020, followed by back-to-back third-place results in 2021 and 2022.

Last year, the 30-year-old driver mounted a late-race charge in Thursday’s Feature, reeling-in leaders Mark Whitener and Shan Smith from sixth on the starting grid, but fell just short, settling for yet another podium finish.

MACK DADDY – The DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals Pro Late Model champion from two years ago returns to Volusia this weekend to reclaim what was once his throne.

Twenty-nine-year-old Mack McCarter, of Gatlinburg, TN, put on a passing clinic in 2021, advancing 35 total spots of position between the two contested Features (19th-to-second on Thursday, 20th-to-second on Saturday) to clinch the overall event points championship by five points over inaugural Sunshine Nationals champion Kyle Bronson.

Though McCarter missed the 2022 event, he went on to compete in Super Late Model action throughout the year, recording a Feature win at Boyd’s Speedway in May. Those laps will help his Crate racing efforts and give him a strong shot at another Sunshine Nationals championship this weekend.

FROM ENGLAND TO VOLUSIA: Ryan Harrison making trip across the pond for Germfree Southern Sprint Car Shootout

BARBERVILLE, FL (Jan. 17, 2023) – Ryan Harrison and his family have made a tradition of venturing from their North Hampshire home in England to Volusia Speedway Park in Florida for Speedweeks the last few years.

This year, he’ll be a part of it, racing with the United Sprint Car Series during the inaugural Germfree Southern Sprint Car Shootout, Jan. 26-28.

The Englishman has made the trip across the pond to race Sprint Cars for the past five years, but this season will mark his first opportunity to race at “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile.” And to make sure he’s coming with the best equipment possible; he’s purchased a car from NASCAR driver Alex Bowman, which was built by iconic Sprint Car mechanic and engine builder Joe Gaerte.

It’s not a cheap venture, though. Roundtrip tickets from England to Orlando – where is car and trailer are stored – can cost more than $1,500. There are a few hundred dollars in tires and fuel. Then, the purchase of the car and motor is a five-digit number alone.

But the thrill of the journey and passion he’s built for the sport has made it all worth it each time.

“The whole involvement of the whole thing,” he said. “The car prep. Working on it. The people involved with it. The organizations. The way it’s run. It’s very professional. The speed. I love everything about it. As soon as you turn up to the track, it’s like, ‘Wow.’”

Harrison has been racing for 15 years, mostly BriSCA F1 Stock Cars in the UK. By random occurrence a few years back, Bob Hackel, who races Northeast modifieds in the America, saw a picture of Harrison’s BriSCA F1 on Facebook and messaged him to say, “Cool car.” Harrison thought the same of Hackel’s modified and return the favor, a simple conversation that led to a new adventure.

“Within a week of speaking to him on Facebook messenger, he offered me a ride in his Sportsman,” Harrison said. “He said, ‘What you have to do is come over, put fuel in the car, pay for the damage and pay for the tires.’ Within a week, I was booked, I was in a plane. I went to a four-day event.

“I had a load of fun. He said, ‘Why don’t you buy one and keep it here?’ I said, if I was to do anything I’d really like a Sprint Car. He said, ‘Well, buy a Sprint Car then and keep it here.’ It sounds crazy, but within a week or two, my dad was on a plane, he was going to New York and we bought a Sprint Car from someone in New York.”

Harrison ran 11 races with the Empire Super Sprint Series in the Northeast between 2018 and 2019. Then, a family friend of Hackel, who lived in Orlando, let Harrison keep his car and trailer at his place so he could race in Florida during Speedweeks.

He’s been able to build his Sprint Car program each year. He went from trying to make a show to searching for top-10 finishes, then top-five finishes and now wins. He picked up his first Sprint Car victory last year with the United Sprint Car Series at Travelers Rest Speedway in South Carolina.

This year, with the car he’s purchasing from Bowman – which was driven by the NASCAR driver a few times in 2022 – Harrison will have a two-car program. One will be his main car, the other will be his backup.

While he has that safety net, he still emphasized he can’t afford to flip or wreck his equipment. That could be the difference between a successful trip or a short one.

“We obviously don’t have endless amounts of money,” Harrison said. “It’s costing us a small fortune being over there. Plus being away from work. Kind of a double whammy. So, we’re putting a lot of time and effort into doing it. I can’t afford to wreck it. I have to be really smart with driving. I can’t afford to be upside down. If that happens, the trips are going to be less and less. We never book a trip until we finish the first one. Once we finish, as long as everything is intact, we’ll plan the next one before we leave.”

Harrison has several sponsors that support him, all from the UK. Many of which will travel to the U.S. with him to watch him race.

He initially told himself he would only do the traveling back and forth for three years. But he can’t get enough of it, he said. All he wants is more.

“I’m like foaming at the mouth,” Harrison said about coming back this year. “I’m ready for it. Come on let’s go. You enjoy the whole trip. You enjoy being on the road, looking around the country. Big [semitrucks] doing 75 mph, and you’re like, ‘This is crazy.’ We’re living the dream. That’s all we can say, we’re living the dream. As long as we can live it, we will.”

The Germfree Southern Sprint Car Shootout will feature the United Sprint Car Series’ first time back at Volusia Speedway Park in 18 years. To watch Harrison and the rest of the Sprint Car stars in the show, tickets will be available at the gate.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all the action live on DIRTVision.

Cadillac V-LMDh aims to make noise at the Roar

Hybrid race car ready for its competition debut at prelude to Rolex 24 at Daytona
DETROIT (Jan. 17, 2023) — Before the aggressive and distinctively Cadillac V-LMDh rounds into view, the unmistakable throaty sound is its calling card. Authentic American V8.
Cadillac, the only LMDh manufacturer with a naturally aspirated engine, will seek to build on its legacy of success in the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona — the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season and introduction of the hybrid race cars in the Grand Touring Prototype class.

Three Cadillac V-LMDh race cars will make their debut this week at the Roar Before the Rolex 24. Cadillac will seek its fifth overall victory in the race 2017.
The twice-around-the-clock race is Jan. 28-29 at Daytona International Speedway. The prelude Roar commences with the first of five on-track practice sessions at 11 a.m. ET Jan. 20.
The starting grid will be determined by the qualifying format used at other IMSA races – a 20-minute session — on the 3.56-mile, 12-turn road course. Peacock will provide streaming coverage of qualifying starting at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 22.
Everyone wishes they had an extra month or two and it’s just the way of the new formula. I guess the best way to do it is to rip the band aid off and get racing.— Earl Bamber, co-driver of the No. 02 Cadillac V-LMDh
“Two years of planning, preparation and perseverance have brought Cadillac Racing to this place and time – the start of a new and exciting era for the brand, IMSA and the WEC,” GM sports car racing program manager Laura Wontrop Klauser said. “We’re thankful for the cooperation and consideration of dozens of GM personnel, our teams, partners, suppliers, the sanctioning bodies and the other OEMs to get to this point.
“This has been an intense process, but an extremely rewarding one. Our development process has been like running the Rolex 24 at least five times in a row. It felt like almost every test we were running a 24-hour race with the hours we were at the track and how hard everyone was working. We’re now looking forward to seeing the Cadillac V-LMDh cars on the racetrack in competition and, of course, in the winner’s circle.”
Since its shakedown in early July 2022, the Cadillac V-LMDh has completed more than 12,000 miles of on-track development in addition to numerous hours of development of the 5.5-liter DOHC V8 on dynamometers at the GM Performance and Racing propulsion facility in Pontiac, Michigan.
“Everyone wishes they had an extra month or two and it’s just the way of the new formula. I guess the best way to do it is to rip the band aid off and get racing,” said Earl Bamber, co-driver of the No. 02 Cadillac V-LMDh.
Since 2017, Cadillac has been competing at the forefront of American sports car racing in the IMSA prototype class. In the 2017-2022 DPi era, Cadillac Racing achieved 27 wins (most of any manufacturer), 84 podium finishes, plus:* Winning the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship three times: 2021, 2018 and 2017* Winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona four times in a row: 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017Winning the Michelin North American Endurance Cup four times: 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017* Winning three Team and Driver Championships
Prior to competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Cadillac competed in the World Challenge Championship, earning five Manufacturer Championships (2014, 2013, 2012, 2007, 2005) and five Driver Championships (2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2005).
What Cadillac Racing drivers are sayingNo. 01 Cadillac V-LMDh

Sebastien Bourdais: “For us, it’s still early days. Everything is new and yet the race is just around the corner. Usually, you spend a lot more time trying to refine the set-ups and everything going into a race, especially being the biggest race of the year. But we’ll have a couple of days during the Roar and then we’ll go racing. We want to see Cadillac win it and we’d love to be the car to win it. I fully expect the one who wins will be the one with the fewest amount of problems, so we’ll keep it clean, go fast and make sure we don’t run into troubles.”
Renger van der Zande: “The test days at Daytona were a time to get reliable you’re your car and get that bit of speed out of the car by working on set-ups. We’ll continue that during the practice days at the Roar. The mental aspect is to focus on your job and trust the others to do well. The only thing you can focus on is that little piece that you’re contributing to the whole team. You’re relying on your teammates, you’re relying on the strategy, you’re relying on the mechanical side of your car. To get everything right is not easy. I’m with an amazing group of drivers and amazing group of people I work with who are to be trusted.”
Scott Dixon: “I’m looking forward to the Roar. Being part of the program a good amount in the off-season, I’ve seen a lot of great development with the car. It’s going to be good to have two cars running at the same time. I’m ready to kick off he season strong. On the Cadillac front I think all the driver lineups are fantastic, the car has been fast, they look like winning cars. All the manufacturers coming in have brought a new intensity to IMSA, which is great for the race itself and the long term.”No. 02 Cadillac V-LMDh

Alex Lynn: “As a crew, we’re ready to perform. It’s the biggest race on the American calendar, so from that side all three of us have experience and we know what it takes to get it done. We need to stay calm with a brand-new car and make sure we arrive on race day with the best possible chance of winning.”
Earl Bamber: “I think having a regular qualifying session instead of a race this year is good for all the GTP class cars. Everyone wishes they had an extra month or two and it’s just the way of the new formula. I guess the best way to do it is to rip the band aid off and get racing. This first Daytona race is going to be a real endurance race of who car finish the race cleanly without any mechanical failures. The guys at GM, Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing have put a huge amount of work and effort into where we are and I think everyone is excited to get the car on track and see what we’ve produced in the last year and a half.”
Richard Westbook: “It’s been a race against time with the development of the Cadillac V-LMDh. It’s a whole new class, whole new formula and everyone was wishing they had more time. But it is the way the American season works in sports car racing; the first round is a 24-hour race and that’s brutal. We have to be ready and I think round one is going to all be about reliability. We had a very successful 24-hour test and a good test at Daytona in December, so that puts us in good stead.”No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-LMDh

Pipo Derani: “I think there’s always a big excitement coming into a new season, especially with the first event so big. After you do this for a few years, you learn how to control your emotions. Everything just falls into place. You just do what you have to do. Once you focus on that and know you have that support from the team, then you’re also more relaxed. There’s really nothing different to do than what you’ve already done and those things have worked because we’ve won races and championships. That also helps you calm down and focus on the important things. Come race day and come Sunday afternoon, you hope everything fell into place and you have the shot at victory in this event.”
Alexander Sims: “A lot of preparation has gone into the car and it’s getting down to crunch time. It’s a huge challenge ahead of us firstly just to complete the race with a brand-new car, brand-new set of technology in the car that everybody is learning about and haven’t been raced in anger up and down the paddock by anyone before and then to try to be fast and competitive at the same time. We’re fully up for it. It seems like we’re in a good spot. I remain cautiously optimistic.”
Jack Aitken: “I’m super excited. I’m comfortable in the car. For everyone, it’s a massive challenge and seeing the way everybody has been fighting to get ready for the race is pretty cool. I think we’re in a good spot. It’s just ironing out those little niggles you get with a new car. I don’t think we’ll get that feeling that we’re 100 percent ready, but I don’t think anybody really is. If we can get there 99 percent ready, I’d say we’ve done a good job.”

CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: 25th Year Starts at a Familiar Place

No. 3 Corvette C8.R begins another full-season championship challenge in GTD PRO DETROIT (Jan. 17, 2023) – Corvette Racing is back where it all started a quarter-century ago as the team returns to Daytona International Speedway for its two-week, season-opening event in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
First up is the Roar Before the 24 – three days of official testing that culminates in qualifying for the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The Roar runs from Friday through Sunday with practice starting for the Rolex 24 on Thursday, January 26.
This season marks the second for Corvette Racing in the GT Daytona (GTD) PRO category. This year’s lineup features the two-time IMSA championship-winning pair of Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor – challenging for another full-season title – and fellow Corvette Racing veteran Tommy Milner in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R.
While this is the first race together for the trio, one has shared the cockpit of a Corvette with the other on multiple occasions. While Garcia and Taylor are full-season teammates, Milner was a full-time Corvette driver in 2011 with Garcia as his long-distance teammate. Coincidently, they went on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year.
Fast-forward to 2015 and Taylor was the third driver at Le Mans with Milner and Oliver Gavin as the trio won their class in a storybook ending for Corvette Racing.
Daytona was the site of Corvette Racing’s first event in 1999. In its 12 Rolex starts since then, the program has won the race four times – the most recent coming in 2021 when Garcia, Taylor and Nicky Catsburg led a 1-2 Corvette Racing finish in the final Rolex 24 for the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category.
There are eight entries from seven manufacturers in GTD PRO for this year’s Rolex 24. Combined with the regular GTD field, Corvette Racing will be in a fight among 23 production-based cars around the 3.56-mile, eight-turn circuit that combines Daytona’s super-speedway oval with its infield road course.
The Roar Before the 24 is set for Friday-Sunday with GTD qualifying for the Rolex 24 scheduled for 1:25 p.m. on Sunday. The session will stream live around the world on IMSA.com.
ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Going for the second time in GTD PRO at Daytona will be a little bit different. We have a year of experience now. A year ago, it was hard for us and hard for IMSA to know what to expect from the performance of our car. I hope we are in a better position this time around, especially at Daytona. We were lacking a ton of performance and we were not competitive and couldn’t fight for wins. I hope things change. The team has one year of experience in this category. We know our weaknesses and where we are strong. I hope we have a chance to win.”“For Corvette Racing, Daytona is a key part of our season. We’ve been lucky enough to win it a few times. Last year wasn’t a great year for us but I hope we have a chance to be up there, work for it and maybe win the Rolex again.”“It’s great to have Tommy back. I was still a third driver when he joined the team and I was able to be in the car with him for a year. We won Le Mans together, so I think it’s a good moment to get together again and win all the other big races we can win. I haven’t won Daytona or Sebring with him, so this is a good chance to try for that.”
JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Heading into the season, the motivation is win as much as we can. That starts with the Rolex 24. Last year we had a tough race in our first event in GTD. Getting an understanding about what the car needs and what the drivers need is a lot to learn. Having done the whole season a year ago, we can take what we learned into practice and hopefully we can hit the ground running strong at Daytona.”“With the GTD PRO class growing as much as it has, Daytona will be such an important event for us. We’ve got so many manufacturers from around the world, and it’s a big deal to represent Corvette and Chevrolet on our home turf. We won the race in 2021 and hopefully we can come back with a strong car in GTD after learning what we did a year ago. We’re definitely hoping for another watch this year.”“It was kind of sad not having Tommy in the IMSA field last year. He’s been a staple in this sport for so many years. I know he enjoyed WEC and exploring the different tracks. For us, it’s nice to have him back home. The last time we drove the same car, we won Le Mans back in 2015 so we have a lot of good history and good memories. We had a good battle back in 2021 around Daytona. He’s one guy you’d rather have in your car than racing against. Hopefully we can go win some more races together.”
TOMMY MILNER, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “The team had a pretty tough year last year. They won at Sebring and were competitive at some places, but for the most part the first year bringing a GTLM car down to GTD was challenging, for sure. I would say expectations for Daytona, we go there to win. That’s why we race. Last year was a big challenge for us. We were very slow in a straight line, hopefully that will be better. The goal is to win the race and winning a championship.“Daytona itself is a huge part of the IMSA championship and endurance racing around the world. It kicks off the racing season around the world. The track itself is not crazy difficult, but the race itself is challenging. You have to have a car that is good in all kinds of conditions. It can get pretty hot in the daytime and also super cold at night. The oval itself poses its own challenges. It’s one car from each manufacturer and great driver lineups with great teams. So it’s a challenge for all of us as drivers and a team to compare ourselves to some of the best in the world. It’s a challenge that Corvette Racing is always up for. No matter what hand we’re dealt, we’ll work our magic to get our Corvette up front.”“I enjoyed my time last year in WEC to go all around the world and represent Corvette Racing. To go around the world and show off this Corvette to a lot of fans who have never seen the car before was special. As an American kid, being at home is quite nice and the chance to race the three major races in the IMSA championship is fantastic.”

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: World of Outlaws Late Models Kickoff 2023 Season at Sunshine Nationals

Dennis Erb Jr. begins title defense at Volusia Speedway Park on Jan. 18-21, joined by stout 2023 class

BARBERVILLE, FL – January 16, 2023– A blast of sunshine and one of the best driver rosters in Series history await the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models as they kick off their 2023 season at Volusia Speedway Park.

Fifteen drivers will begin their quest for the World of Outlaws championship when the season opens at Sunshine Nationals on Jan. 18-21.

After a night of practice on Wednesday, Jan. 18, the season officially commences with a pair of 25-lap, $8,000-to-win Features on Thursday, Jan. 19, and Friday, Jan. 20.

The weekend finishes in style on Saturday, Jan. 21, as drivers battle for $20,000 in a 50-lap finale.

A total of $160,000 in Feature purse money will be distributed throughout the weekend.

Championship contending drivers will get to drop their worst finish among the three races and not have it count toward their points – as long as all three races are completed.

Joining the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models at “The World’s Fastest Half Mile” are the DIRTcar Pro Late Models and 602 Late Models—making the event a true Late Model Palooza.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all the action live on DIRTVision – either at DIRTVision.com or by downloading the DIRTVision App.

Here are the key storylines to watch at Sunshine Nationals:

Title Defense: Dennis Erb Jr. enters the 2023 season with a new title—defending World of Outlaws CASE Late Models champion.

The Carpentersville, IL driver, flanked by two-time Series Crew Chief of the Year Heather Lyne (2021,2022), returns to the track where last year’s title run began.

Erb started 2022 with a podium finish in the season opener and backed it up with a win at Volusia at DIRTcar Nationals.

He’s searching for his first Sunshine Nationals victory and has a top-five, and two top-10s in four starts at the event.

Back for More: Erb isn’t the only driver back in 2023 with their eyes on the title, as six other drivers return from the 2022 campaign.

Reigning Rookie of the Year Tanner English leads the charge of drivers searching for their first championship with a change of scenery this season.

The three-time World of Outlaws winner now pilots the #96V Viper Motorsports entry owned by Shawn and Lisa Martin – a ride recently vacated by Max Blair, who also has a new ride this season.

Blair has teamed up with Boom Briggs to drive a second Briggs Transport car in 2023 as the two Pennsylvania drivers aim for their first title – and Briggs continues to battle for his first World of Outlaws win.

Gordy Gundaker, Ryan Gustin, and Brent Larson are also back with the Series this season and hope to get an excellent start to the season at Sunshine Nationals.

Gustin is the only driver out of this group with a win at Volusia, when he scored a DIRTcar Late Model victory during the 2022 DIRTcar Nationals.

The Drive For 5: Brandon Sheppard has announced his return to the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models in 2022 and has the chance to add another piece of history to his resume.

The four-time champion already has the most wins in Series history (81) and begins his journey for most titles all-time at Sunshine Nationals—hoping to break the tie with Josh Richards (4).

However, this attempt at a championship will look different as it’s the first time Sheppard won’t be driving for Rocket1 Racing. The New Berlin, IL driver has teamed up with Scott Riggs in 2023 to start Sheppard-Riggs Racing and will pilot a Longhorn Chassis after several years in a Rocket.

So, this year he’ll be searching for his fifth Series title in his own #B5 Late Model.

Despite scoring eight wins at Volusia, he’s yet to finish in the top five at Sunshine Nationals. His best finish is seventh place on two occasions.

Smokey’s Return: Sheppard’s closest championship rival from 2021, Chris Madden, has also thrown his name into the hat for the 2023 title.

The Gray Court, SC driver found success at Volusia last season, scoring two top-five finishes during Sunshine Nationals and backing it up with a win and three top-fives during DIRTcar Nationals.

“Smokey” enters the weekend with 33 career Series triumphs. However, like Sheppard, he’s searching for his first Sunshine Nationals win.

After finishing his season with a win at Cherokee Speedway last November, he’s also looking for back-to-back victories.

Rookie Class: A vital part of the exciting 2023 roster are the drivers racing for Rookie of the Year honors.

Nick Hoffman, Johnny Scott, Logan Martin, Payton Freeman, Todd Cooney, and Dustin Walker will battle to be the top rookie this season—all of them searching for their first career Series victory.

Hoffman, from Mooresville, NC, is the only driver who’s scored a win at Volusia in his career, winning 22 times in a DIRTcar Modified.

Scott is the only driver out of the six who’s won a national touring event—both coming in 2022.

Will the Streak Continue: This year’s Sunshine Nationals is the third annual event at Volusia Speedway Park. However, in the four Features contested, there have been no repeat winners.

Florida’s own Kyle Bronson opened the season with a win in 2021 before Kyle Strickler held off Scott Bloomquist for his first career Series triumph.

In 2022, a pair of Georgia drivers, Dale McDowell and Ashton Winger, found Victory Lane for their first Sunshine Nationals wins.

All four drivers are expected to be at the event and try to stake their claim as the first multi-time winner.

Corvette Racing Rounds Out FIA WEC Lineup in No. 33 C8.R

Nico Varrone joins Keating, Catsburg for seven-round GTE Am championship
DETROIT (Jan. 13, 2023) – Corvette Racing is completing its lineup for the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship with young Argentinian driver Nico Varrone joining Ben Keating and factory driver Nicky Catsburg. The trio will team together in the No. 33 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R in the GTE Am category. It’s the second straight full-season program in the FIA WEC for Corvette Racing, which celebrate its 25th season of competition in 2023. The campaign will be the first for the Corvette program in GTE Am, where the sporting rules require at least one Bronze-level driver, as rated by the FIA. One professional-level driver is allowed along with a second Bronze or Silver-rated driver.
The combination of Catsburg, Keating and Varrone will contest the full seven-race WEC calendar including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. The season begins with the 1,000 Miles of Sebring on Friday, March 17.
Although he’s new to Corvette Racing, the silver-rated Varrone got an early taste of the mid-engine Corvette C8.R during testing following the 2022 WEC finale at Bahrain and in a private test at Sebring in December.
Although his early racing focused on karting and single-seaters, Varrone’s most recent success has come in sports cars with victories in both prototype and GT cars. Among them are wins in the GTE Am category of this year’s European Le Mans Series along with a victory in the 24H Series’ round in Barcelona earlier this season.
This is the second consecutive year that Corvette Racing will compete in multiple GT championships around the world. Its campaign in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship begins in two weeks with the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
NICO VARRONE, NO. 33 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “I’m really, really happy and over the moon for this opportunity. It always was my dream to be at this level and be on a team with a magnificent brand like Corvette Racing. To be paired with two legendary drivers like Ben and Nicky also is very special. I have to say a big thank to you to Jeroen Bleekmolen for recommending me. He is close to both Ben and Nicky so it’s quite a nice feeling. I can’t wait for us to start with this program.”“It’s really special at Corvette Racing. I’ve never been inside a factory team, and I was expecting things to be kind of quiet and different. But it’s such a nice feeling because Corvette Racing is a big family. You have fun with the crew guys, the engineers and the drivers. They are so open to talking about things that it’s really special. Nicky and Ben also are guys who have always watched on TV. To share a car with them is something I never could have imagined.”“I’ve driven other GT cars but the Corvette is one of the best feelings I’ve ever had in a racecar. It’s a natural and proper racecar, for sure. The confidence it gives in the high-speed corners, the traction and the braking of the car is amazing. It fits me just right. I felt comfortable almost right away. I was expecting it to be like other GT cars I’ve driven, but to me it’s more similar to a prototype. It’s a mega sensation for the drivers. I enjoyed every lap I’ve done so far. I can’t wait for more.”

EAGER SHARK: Logan Schuchart Has Eyes on Big Gator, World of Outlaws Titles

Schuchart will kick off his 10th full-time season with the World of Outlaws at DIRTcar Nationals, Feb. 9-11BARBERVILLE, FL (Jan. 13, 2023) – Logan Schuchart ended the 2022 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season with the same number of wins as Brad Sweet. However, Sweet won the title, while Schuchart finished sixth in points. He’s eager to change that in 2023.Already ahead of where he and the Shark Racing team were last year in preparation for the new season, Schuchart has his eyes on a second DIRTcar Nationals Big Gator Championship in February to help kick off a World of Outlaws championship run.“Last year we didn’t really know what was going on with RelaDyne and Drydene until pretty late and this year, in October, we already knew they were on board again so we could kind of be more prepared,” Schuchart said. “We could get stuff ahead of time to be ready to go this winter.“We got it done last year, but, like, January was a mess. We were running around like chickens with our heads cut off. This year, it is a little more relaxed. We can do things how they should be done. A little more organized.”He’s hoping that leads to the success they had at Volusia Speedway Park in 2021 when he won his first Big Gator Championship and claimed his third DIRTcar Nationals Feature win (two with the World of Outlaws and one with the All Star Circuit of Champions).Along with that being his first time hoisting the life-size championship gator trophy, it was also a first for several members on his Shark Racing team. A true testament to their hard work and consistency throughout the event.“Just the consistency of the week and being in the points lead made us feel good about what we had going on,” Schuchart said. “Obviously, it is early in the season and is a few races at one track, but it makes you feel good.“It was a first for me to win the Big Gator and people on my team. Bill Klingbeil, my stepdad, he does all of our PR stuff, he’s been in this sport a long time. He worked for Donny (Schatz, the 10-time World of Outlaws champion), Dale Blaney. A lot of big teams like [Tony Stewart Racing] and he never won the Big Gator before. For him to work for those teams and never win that and that was able to be a first for him, I thought that was pretty special, especially with the level of competition he worked with in the past.”Schuchart finished seventh, 25th and ninth during the three days of DIRTcar Nationals last year. The 25th-place finished was a DNF due to a mechanical problem. It was the first of multiple DNFs that plagued him and his team throughout the year, and one of the reasons they fell 436 points behind Sweet at the end of the season with them both having five wins, Schuchart said.By being ahead of the game in preparation, having confidence in their parts, having the support they need and a focus on eliminating DNFs this year, Schuchart said he and his Drydene/DuraMax #1s team believe they can be title contenders.“I want to race for a championship,” Schuchart said. “I believe we can do that. [Brad Sweet] had zero DNFs, while we had eight or nine. We just can’t do that. Some of it is a learning experience. Some of it is financial. Some of it is COVID left over parts you can’t get. 2020 was our best year (with seven wins and finishing second in points), but obviously all those parts were bought the year before and prepared the year before. Since then, we’ve had to change around some of our program for different parts that we might not have felt as confident in. I feel like that has caused us some issues in the last year.“Hopefully we’ve figured them out. We feel like we have. There’re always things you’re going to learn along the way. But I feel really good about the quality of our race cars, the parts that are in them and the people we have working on them, I feel like they do a great job. We definitely have the capabilities of achieving those goals.”Being a professional race car driver and a World of Outlaws champion is something the Hanover, PA driver has dreamed about since a kid, watching his grandfather, Bobby Allen, live the life of an Outlaw. To him, it’s the ultimate testament of being the ultimate Sprint Car driver.“The highest level of Sprint Cars to me is always the World of Outlaws, it always has been,” Schuchart said. “It’s where the best drivers, the best mechanics have always been, and I think still continue to be there. You might have guys that can show up at these big events and show up at different parts of the country and be fast, but you take those same cars and let them run with the World of Outlaws full-time, they’ll be seventh, eighth, ninth-place cars.“The World of Outlaws is the toughest level of competition that there is. Especially when you run with them 80 times. So, to win an Outlaw championship, to say that you’re the best in the world is my goal. That would be pretty special to myself and my team.”To watch Schuchart battle for another Big Gator Championship during DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, Feb. 9-11, against the rest of the World of Outlaws stars, get your tickets HERE.If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all of DIRTcar Nationals live on DIRTVision.

Cadillac Racing: Rory Harvey Zoom transcript

DETROIT (Jan. 11, 2023) — Cadillac Racing enters a new era of prototype sports car racing with the competition debut of the Cadillac V-LMDh in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Three Cadillac V-LMDh race cars will attempt to secure the pole Jan. 22 for the 61st edition of the race on Jan. 28-29.
Global Vice President of Cadillac Rory Harvey participated in a Zoom media conference hosted by IMSA with other OEM principals. Transcript of Harvey sections of the Q&A:
HOW DOES THIS SPLATFORM SUPPORT CADILLAC’S MOVE TOWARD AND ALL-ELECTRIC FUTURE?“We’ve had a long association with the IMSA championship. I’ve personally been privileged to pick up the Manufacturers Championship trophy on a couple of occasions. It gives us the ability to showcase what we do from a technology perspective, from a performance perspective, from and aerodynamics perspective, etc. It gives us the ability to transfer technology across to our road cars, whether it be looking at the aerodynamics as an example. Cadillac has our V-Series and our V-Series Blackwings, which are very successful. We work with IMSA to make sure we can maximize this opportunity and make sure we can replicate some of this on the road. We did the Track Editions last year that sold out virtually immediately, which shows in terms of the target audience that it dovetails into what we want to achieve. If you look at the powertrains this year and our stated ambition to be all-electric by 2030, we have the 5.5-liter V8 and the hybrid technology, so from that point of view we’re looking to learn, develop and look to further take those lessons into our EV portfolio as we move forward.”
AS ANDRETTI CADILLAC MOVES FORWARD WITH A FORMULA ONE EFFORT, COULD THAT HAVE ANY AFFECT ON THE LMDH PROGRAM?“No, we’re super excited about that opportunity as well. The process is in the very early stages; we’re looking to submit an Expression of Interest. From our perspective, it will complement what we do in this series. We don’t see it impacting this series in any way.”
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF CADILLAC IN LMDH?“We have a pedigree of motor racing. It’s well over 70 years since we entered motorsport and have been very successful in a number of series over the years. The U.S. is massively important to us and the IMSA series is very important to us. In addition, we’re looking to complement it with the commonization of the regulations so we can compete in the World Endurance Championship. We sell Cadillacs throughout the globe and that gives us greater coverage and greater reach in geographical locations where we also look to perform. And then being able to complement what we do here with the opportunity, should we be successful, of entering Formula One. We see that as another piece of the jigsaw puzzle and very fitting to the Cadillac brand and the heritage of both Cadillac Racing and General Motors Racing. It’s a big commitment. We believe that the partnership that we discussed last week is wonderful and gives us the ability to perform. We believe that we have a blend of skills sets across the organizations that means we can use the expertise from both parties to put together a package that ensures that we’ll be competitive.”
WHERE ARE THINGS WITH SUPPLY CHAINS; IS IT GETTING BETTER?“I’d love to say that everything is normalized and things are back at the levels where we think it should be, but it isn’t. Progress continues to be made. I think the speed bumps in the system seem to be small and less frequent, so we are definitely seeing progress. If you look at it in terms of vehicles we build for the road, GM continues to build stock. We’re still at very low levels compared to the traditional levels of stock overall, as I think most manufacturers are, but from our perspective there are some lessons there and we do believe we can work more efficiently and more effectively going forward. We’re taking some of those lessons and applying them to the supply chain going forward. Things are slowly starting to improve and becoming more stable. We’re getting greater line of sight in terms of what product availability is there going forward, what challenges we may have. I have to say the team has done an outstanding job in terms of ensuring that we can drive our performance forward. For North America year end as an example, Cadillac was able to grow 13.9 percent last year, which was a strong performance out of the luxury brands in the U.S.”
IS HAVING THE WEC CAR AT DAYTONA A NUMBERS GAME?“We’ve run multiple cars in past seasons. We have the partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing and Action Express Racing – two valued partners with a lot of experience. We’re going into the World Endurance Championship as well; we will have one of those vehicles running full time in the WEC. From our perspective, it’s good to have the coverage of the three vehicles, bearing in mind that we will be competing both of the series this year.”
IS THE FORMULA COST-EFFECTIVE?“We evaluate our performance both on and off the track. We look at the costs of the program and there are some cost efficiencies in terms of the program and we’re very happy to work with the teams and to bring exciting racing together. This season, with some new entrants into the event, it’s going to be super exciting. The fans are going to absolutely love it and it gives us the ability to showcase our vehicles. We’re happy with the championship overall.”
WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF SOMETHING YOU HOPE TO LEARN TO CARRY OVER TO THE ROAD CAR SIDE?“There are multiple things that we take from the program, whether it be the revisions to the regulations, the 5.5-liter V8 and the hybridization of that as an example. Those are standard. We still get the ability to learn from that. If you look at our vehicles, they were designed by our design team, they were designed for racing but it gives us great ability to be able to further our experience in terms of aerodynamics. We take those learnings and portray them on our performance vehicles albeit that we’re in that transition phase between internal combustion engines and going all EV. Racing has been part of our DNA. Performance vehicles on the road have been part of our DNA and we will have that going forward in terms of performance. From our perspective, there are so many things that we translate whether it be now with our internal combustion engines or whether it be in the future with some of the learnings. Some of the things will be common in terms of aerodynamics, etc., and some things will be very new such as the EV powertrains compared to ICE vehicles. So we are in that transition and the regulations that have been put forth here enable us to combine our internal combustion engine with hybridization, so we will take learnings out of that and we will apply those learnings to our existing vehicles and our future vehicle portfolio.”
WHAT’S BEEN THE REACTION FROM THE COMPANY AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE F1 EFFORT AND WHERE DOES IT STAND?“We think that in terms of the partnership between Andretti and General Motors and Cadillac that we have a very good proposition. We wouldn’t have gone forward in announcing our intent to submit an Expression of Interest if we didn’t think it was a proposition that fulfilled the requirements and give us the ability to succeed. From that point of view, there is a long way to go yet in this process. The Expression of Interest and the details have not come out exactly yet, so we have that to go as a first step. We’ll need to submit our Expression of Interest and then see how the process plays out. I don’t want to speculate in terms of some of the articles that have been written. Internally, we’re super excited. I know from the Andretti organization’s perspective they are super excited and we will do our very best in terms of our Expression of Interest and be able to showcase what we believe that we could bring to Formula One.”
HOW INVOLVED IS THE MANUFACTURER IN HELPING THE TEAMS DELIVER A CHAMPIONSHIP?“We work very closely with the teams. We have our 5.5-liter V8 powertrain, which is developed by our Performance Engineering division in Pontiac (Michigan). We work very closely with the chassis provider Dallara as well. It’s about getting the best from the strengths the teams bring along with the strengths of the OEM. It’s about blending those together so you have as good a competitive proposition as you can. It’s integral that we all work together to blend those experiences to come up with the most competitive proposition. Activation, as an example, whether it be social media, whether it be our V-Series websites, and our drivers and teams are very happy to support those events as well. In terms of the Rolex 24, we’ll have all of our expertise on site. The teams have their expertise on site. We collectively work together to optimize what we see during the race. The first thing is to make sure we have a fast car. The second thing is to make sure it’s durable. The third thing is to make sure we have contingencies should any unplanned incidences occur. We’re working hard to make sure we can maximize, but there’s no doubt on occasion there is course correction in an event, particularly the length of 24 hours. The teams are supported by the GM team in terms of the expertise and we blend those two together hopefully influence to outcome to be effect.”

THE OUTLAW EXPERIENCE: Logan Martin Aims for World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year Honors in 2023

The West Plains, MO driver earned three victories in the 2022 season

CONCORD, NC– January 11, 2023 – Logan Martin hasn’t been a stranger to the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series in his career.

However, when the 2023 season begins at Volusia Speedway Park during Sunshine Nationals on Jan. 18-21, he’ll encounter a new experience.

The West Plains, MO driver will join the tour full-time as he aims for Rookie of the Year honors—an opportunity he said came together at the right time.

“It’s just something I kind of always wanted to do,” Martin said. “The timing was right for us and our team, and with what I have going on in my life right now. The stars just kind of lined up, and we had a couple of sponsors step up to help us out a little bit.

“So, everything just kind of worked out good for us.”

Martin has competed with the Series on occasion in the past few years, earning a top five at Boone Speedway in 2021, along with setting quick time at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 last season.

Those flashes of success are something he hopes to build on in 2023.

“I’ve always felt like we’ve had streaks of lightning with the Outlaws,” Martin said. “I’ve always felt like we’ve been competitive and been up front, but we’ve never ran with them consistently to show we consistently deliver. We’re excited to be able to do that this year and maybe build a little more consistency into our streaks we’ve had in the past.

“That’s kind of a goal is to get out of the gate strong and find some consistency pretty quick.”

While many rookies are joining a Series for the first time, that’s not the case for the Show-Me State competitor.

Martin is a 2-time Comp Cams Super Dirt Series champion, a regional Series run primarily in the Deep South region.

He hopes the experience of traveling up and down the road gets him acquainted quickly with the 53-race grind drivers will face this season.

“Running a tour in the past, although it’s not the Outlaw tour, it teaches you a lot of things,” Martin said. “Like how to get up and down the road, how to be efficient with your time. Not even on the track, but getting up and down the road, where to travel, where to go, when’s the best places to stop.

“It also teaches you how to points race and take that ninth-place car and get a fifth or sixth out of it. That’s the trick to it all, and just being able to put those pieces to the puzzle together.”

As Martin begins his inaugural World of Outlaws CASE Late Models experience at Volusia Speedway Park, he understands what’s ahead of him—and the mindset he needs to have when the season officially starts.

“Just show up prepared,” Martin said. “It’s easy to come out the first race of the year when everyone’s excited to get to the track, but you have to realize these are points-paying races, and they’re going to set the tone for the first half of your season.

“You’ve got to come out with the level of intensity that you want to end the season with.”

The World of Outlaws CASE Late Models commences their 2023 season in Florida at Volusia Speedway Park during Sunshine Nationals on Jan. 18-21. The event is a True Late Model Palooza, as joining the Series are the DIRTcar Late Models and 602 Late Models.

CLEARING THE BAR: Dennis Erb Jr. Set to Launch World of Outlaws Late Models Title Defense

The Carpentersville, IL driver leads the Series into Sunshine Nationals Jan. 18-21 at Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE, FL – JANUARY 12, 2023 – Dennis Erb Jr’s crew chief, Heather Lyne, said it best after Erb won the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models championship in 2022: “We’ve raised the bar, and now we have to clear it.”

The dynamic duo will take their first step toward clearing that bar when the Series opens its season at Volusia Speedway Park during Sunshine Nationals on Jan. 18-21.

Erb couldn’t sit and enjoy his 2022 title for too long, as only 75 days fell between the final night of the World of Outlaws World Finals and the opening race of the season.

However, the hard-working approach he and Lyne take toward each race had them ready to prepare for the short offseason.

“It doesn’t take long,” Erb said. “By the time we get home and get everything unloaded and start getting things cleaned up, we’re back at it working hard, getting things freshened up, getting a new car put together.

“The offseason is really short now, so we don’t have that much time to relax.”

Erb said early in the 2022 season that he had a focus on going out and winning the championship. That fire hasn’t stopped burning for the Illinois driver as he attempts a repeat performance.

“We had a real good year last year,” Erb said. “Things were working good. The car was working good. We finished off on a good note and plan to pick up right where we left off. We’re real confident, and we hope everything works out, but I think we’ll be right there in the battle again.”

With a couple of new Rocket Chassis at his disposal for 2023, he’s looking forward to what’s to come—including a return to his home state and Farmer City Raceway.

“Looking at the 2023 schedule, we’ve got a few new places we’re going to, and we’re always looking forward to that,” Erb said. “We just enjoy going to new places and our normal races we’ve got.

“Hopefully, we can get the [Illini 100] in. That’d be good to run there this year, a lot of the stuff in the Midwest and the tracks we’ve run at throughout my career. I like going back to those places, too.”

While Erb thrives in the Midwest, the season opens at another place where he’s found success.

He scored one of his four Series victories at Volusia in 2022 during DIRTcar Nationals.

“We’ve run real good at Volusia,” Erb said. “Like I said, hopefully, we’ll be able to pick up right where we left off last year there. We’re pretty confident in getting around that place, and we’ve had some pretty good runs there and won some races there.

“We’re looking to start off real good coming out of the box.”

Erb knows where the bar is set and takes his first leap toward clearing it when the Series opens its 2023 season at Sunshine Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.

Joining the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models are the DIRTcar Pro Late Models and 602 Late Models as part of the Late Model Palooza.

Cadillac reveals liveries of its three V-LMDh race cars

Bold colors on the new hybrid prototype represent Cadillac V-Series emblem
DETROIT (Jan. 12, 2023) — Cadillac today revealed the liveries for the three all-new electrified V-LMDh race cars that will make their competition debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona this month. The three distinctive designs represent the teams campaigning the all-new Cadillac V-LMDh, each with a different bold color from the Cadillac V-Series emblem.
Resource: French version “Cadillac is ready to compete against the very best in North America and internationally — including one of the world’s toughest races, the 24 Hours of Le Mans,” said Global Vice President of Cadillac Rory Harvey. “As Cadillac builds toward an all-electric future, the all-new V-LMDh furthers our dedication to exploring new advanced performance technologies.” Cadillac Racing will be competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the No. 01 Cadillac Racing and No. 31 Whelen Engineering V-LMDh cars and in the FIA World Endurance Championship with the No. 2 Cadillac Racing V-LMDh. The three liveries share a V-Series graphic-and-color theme. Each car wears one of the primary colors of the V-Series logo, including No. 01 in gold, No. 2 in blue and red on the No. 31.  The V-LMDh is powered by Cadillac’s all-new LMC55R 5.5L DOHC V-8 that’s paired with the LMDh common hybrid system. Developed in-house, the naturally aspirated racing engine is rated up to 670 horsepower, per series specifications, and is backed by a seven-speed sequential gearbox.Co-developed by Cadillac Racing, Cadillac Design and Dallara, the final Cadillac V-LMDh design was informed by the Project GTP Hypercar that debuted in June 2022. It incorporates distinctive Cadillac design elements such as vertical lighting and floating blades.  “From an aesthetic point of view, the LMDh regulations allowed us to create a vision for the car that is clearly Cadillac,” said Chris Mikalauskas, lead exterior creative designer, Cadillac. “And that’s really exciting for fans and for people who are true enthusiasts, every car is unique.”The teamEach Cadillac Racing driver contributed to the V-LMDh’s development. Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Richard Westbrook will co-drive the No. 2 Cadillac V-LMDh in FIA WEC competition, including the centenary Le Mans 24 Hours, and the Rolex 24 At Daytona, where the car will compete as No. 02. The No. 2 is in homage to the first Cadillac entry at Le Mans in 1950, Briggs Cunningham’s “Le Monstre.”  Additionally, Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande will drive the No. 01 Cadillac V-LMDh in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. They will be joined by six-time INDYCAR champion and four-time Rolex 24 At Daytona winner Scott Dixon for the 2023 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims will drive the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-LMDh in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Throughout the season they will be joined by Jack Aitken. A history of racing successCadillac’s expanded 2023 racing program builds on a long history of racing success. In fact, Cadillac is the only high-volume luxury American manufacturer to compete at Le Mans for the overall win since 1969.  The brand has competed since 2017 at the forefront of American sports car racing in the Cadillac DPi-V.R. Before that, Cadillac Racing scored several wins in the Pirelli World Challenge. Recent highlights include: * Winning the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship three times: 2021, 2018 and 2017* Winning the Rolex 24 at Daytona four consecutive times: 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017* Winning the Michelin North American Endurance Cup four consecutive times: 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017* Earning five Pirelli World Challenge Manufacturer Championships (2015, 2014, 2013, 2007 and 2005) and five Driver Championships (2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2005).
This rich history influenced the Project GTP Hypercar that previewed the all-new Cadillac V-LMDh prototype race car. It is Cadillac’s third-generation prototype race car and represents the start of the fifth generation of the brand’s storied V-Series.  Since 2004, V-Series has embodied Cadillac’s commitment to performance, on and off the track. When it comes to road-going models, the lineup has grown recently to include the 2023 Escalade-V. It joined the CT4-V and CT5-V, along with the track-capable CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing.  The Rolex 24 At Daytona kicks off an action-packed racing season that will see the trio of race cars continue to compete around the world. Following Daytona, Cadillac Racing will compete at the 1000 Miles of Sebring on March 17 with the No. 2 car, with the No. 01 and 31 competing in the Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 18.

1st Impressions Racing to Field Cose, Ott on Husqvarnas in 2023

Sent on behalf of 1st Impressions Racing JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (January 11, 2023) 1st Impressions Racing is proud to announce its plans to field Chad Cose and James Ott on Husqvarna FC 450 motorcycles in the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER class for the 2023 Progressive American Flat Track season. The team has also signed two-time Mission Production Twins champion Cory Texter to oversee the revamped program as the Team Manager, while Paul Ott will serve as Crew Chief and Ashley Kruppenbacker as Lead Mechanic. Cose is a veteran rider who has been winning races at the professional level for the entirety of his career, most recently as a member of 1st Impressions Racing in last year’s Parts Unlimited AFT Singles Main Event at the Cedar Lake Short Track. Cose, who finished as the Mission Production Twins runner-up to Texter in 2021, is motivated to be a consistent force at the front of the field in 2023. Ott enters his first season on the team with considerable experience riding Austrian-based motorcycles. He concluded the 2022 season ranked inside the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles championship top ten on the strength of a pair of top-five finishes. Eric Hoyt – Team Owner 1st Impressions Racing “We have had some success so far in the Progressive American Flat Track series, but for 2023 we are making huge changes to the program. Hiring Cory has been an incredible addition. Not only in a management role, but “CTex” is such a great rider coach and mentor that he’ll get the boys in top-notch shape during the off-season. Bringing back Chad was key and well deserved considering his accomplishments and getting us our first win last year in Wisconsin. And I have been watching James for a few years now, and he is an underrated, fast rider with a bright future. The addition of Paul Ott has been a game changer with his set-up knowledge of the motorcycles and building the bikes. And our mechanic Ashley Kruppenbacker crushes it in the shop during the week and at the track. It’s been a lot of fun prepping for the year and I would put our team up against any out there in the series.” Cory Texter – Team Manager “I am excited to still be involved with the series for 2023 as the Team Manager for 1st Impressions Racing. Eric has been great to work with and is really putting a lot of trust in me to elevate his program in order to run up front with the factory-supported teams. It’s going to be a learning year, but I am confident in both Chad and James as the riders. I am excited to start working with them this offseason. With their talents, the sky’s the limit. I am also thankful that I was able to bring Paul Ott onto the team. He was crucial to the success I had as a rider these last couple of seasons and is extremely underrated when it comes to his ability to set up a motorcycle. Our lead mechanic Ashley Kruppenbacker is a hard worker and has been a pleasure to work. It’ll be a fun season and I am confident we will shake up the results frequently throughout the year.” Chad Cose – #49 “I am eager to sign again with 1st Impression Racing for the 2023 season. Being able to get the team a win shows we have the potential to run up front. I am excited about the switch to Husqvarna motorcycles. It’ll be a cool dynamic having another California guy like James as a teammate and Paul as our crew chief. Bringing in CTex was a huge addition to the program. Cory and I have been buds a long time and having him there to work with me during the offseason and be in our corner all year will be priceless. It’s going to be a grind, but we will be ready to go.” James Ott – #19 “I am super stoked going into 2023. In the past, my dad and I have always pieced together what we could on a limited budget. Being on a team like 1st Impressions is an amazing opportunity. They are committed to winning. It’ll be cool having a teammate in Chad this year and someone like Cory to get involved with his knowledge and experience as well. I am ready to get the season started.” Paul Ott – Crew Chief “I am super excited for the opportunity to mechanic motorcycles for James and Chad on the 1st Impressions Husqvarna team in 2023. I am equally excited to continue working with Cory in this new capacity as well as Ashley Kruppenbacker and the entire team. I want to give a special thanks to Eric Hoyt for allowing us all to have the creative freedom to build what is truly becoming a ground-up Husqvarna FC 450 effort. I look forward to the challenges the 2023 AFT season will bring and know that our team has the tools it takes to emerge successfully.” Ashley Kruppenbacker – Lead Mechanic “Next year is going to be awesome with the changes Eric is bringing to the team. Switching to the FC 450 and bringing in a second rider in James Ott alongside our current rider Chad Cose is going to make our team a contender next year. It’s equally exciting to have Cory Texter involved as well. We have a lot of work to do this offseason, but I am excited to spin the wrenches.”

FOUR SCORE: World Finals to Showcase Every Series on Track All Four Days

World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, World of Outlaws Late Models and Super DIRTcar Series will qualify on Wednesday and have full race programs Thursday through Saturday
CONCORD, NC (Jan. 11, 2023) – The World of Outlaws World Finals format has been enhanced this year for fans to see all three series on all four days of the event when all dirt roads lead to The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Nov. 1-4.Continuing to feature the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models and Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds, the 2023 edition of World Finals will see Qualifying (for Thursday and Friday’s programs) for the three series completed on Wednesday and then full race programs for each series Thursday through Saturday – like last year, points earned throughout the week will set the lineups for Saturday’s Heat Races. It all culminates to the electrifying championship finale on Saturday where the 2023 champion will be crowned from each series at the end of the night.“Expanding the World of Outlaws World Finals into a four-day show last year proved to be a success, giving fans an extra day of exciting racing and another chance to meet the drivers, but we realized to enhance that experience we wanted to give fans a chance to see all three series every night,” said Jeff Hachmann, World Racing Group executive director of events. “Now, the championship storylines will build all four nights for each series.”Wednesday will be all about speed. The Low-E Insulation Qualifying rounds for the Sprint Cars, Late Models and Big Block Modifieds will showcase the fastest laps of the week as drivers will be keen to find every ounce of speed their car has, pushing every component to its limit. Where they line up could not only determine their chance to win, but also their chance for a title. The first round of qualifying for each series will set the lineup for Thursday’s Heat Races, then they’ll do another round of qualifying to set the lineup for Friday’s Heat Races. After Qualifying is compete, a Pit Party will be held.Fans will then be treated to full race programs — minus qualifying — the rest of the week for all three series. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 5pm (ET) on Thursday and Friday and 3pm (ET) on Saturday.Saturday’s event will also feature the flag ceremony and fan-favorite 3X4 Wide Salute to the Fans with cars in all three series on the track at the same time.On Thursday and Friday, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars are scheduled to run a 25 lap Feature, the World of Outlaws Late Models 25 laps and the Super DIRTcar Series 30 laps. For the finale on Saturday, the Sprint Cars are scheduled to run a 30 lap Feature, the Late Models 50 laps and the Big Blocks 40 laps.Giving fans the unique experience of seeing three champions crowned at the same time, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion and Super DIRTcar Series champion will be honored together on stage at the conclusion of Saturday’s program with a blaze of fireworks and bath of confetti.“The World of Outlaws World Finals has grown to be one of the biggest events in Charlotte, and by expanding it to four days with more on track action and more fan activities, we continue to establish the event as one of the most marquee attractions in motorsports,” said Eric Singhaus, Charlotte Motor Speedway event manager. “I’m excited for fans to experience the new format this year and get to see all three Series every night.”For tickets to the epic four-day World of Outlaws World Finals championship finale, CLICK HERE.If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all the action live on DIRTVision.
