Kyle Larson Wins Thriller at Golden Isles
| WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (January 27, 2023) – Kyle Larson won a thriller during Friday’s Super Clean Super Bowl of Racing – presented by ICON Electric Vehicles. Larson passed Ricky Thornton Jr. on lap 48 to win the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at Golden Isles Speedway. Thornton, who led laps 30-47 finished in second to earn his second straight Big River Steel Podium. Brandon Overton came home in third after leading the first 29 laps. Earl Pearson Jr. was fourth and Hudson O’Neal rounded out the top five. Overton was in control from the start of the event, but a caution on lap 10 for a slowing G.R. Smith brought out the first of two cautions in the race. On the restart Overton held the point over O’Neal, Thornton and Larson. Larson moved to second on lap 13 as the second caution came a lap later for a slowing Wil Herrington. The remainder of the race went caution free and proved to be a dog fight among the top three of Overton, Larson, and Thornton. Thornton and Larson went toe-to-toe for second behind Overton as those three drivers were using every inch of the track. Thornton kept his car glued to the bottom clearing Larson for second on lap 28. Then two laps later Thornton made the pass on Overton to take the top spot. When Thornton got by, Overton and Larson then had to battle to stay in the hunt for the win. Larson moved back into second on lap 41 relegating Overton to third. Meanwhile, out front Thornton kept his line as Larson and Overton stayed close. Overton got back by Larson for second on lap 45. Larson never gave up and charged to the outside of the track going by Overton and eventually Thornton on lap 48. Larson then opened up enough of a gap to cross the finish line ahead of Thornton and Overton for his first win of 2023. Larson, in his on-track post celebration ended up nose first into the turn three wall, limped his car to Victory Lane. “I feel bad that I tore up a perfectly good race car. I think this takes the cake as far as an embarrassing moment. I don’t know what to say. I want to say I am sorry to Kevin Rumley. What a race. I was so excited after the race, because that was an awesome race. There were so many moments out there. I almost got by Overton, and I got too cute. I tried to throw a slider into one and two and I should have known I wasn’t going to clear him and that allowed Ricky to get by me and I thought that was the end of the race.” Larson added he thought he had given away the race. “I thought I had taken the best car out there and was going to run third with it. Thankfully we caught traffic and Ricky [Thornton Jr.] was content being the leader running the bottom. It was definitely clean down there and there was a lot of grip. I got by Brandon [Overton] I think once and then got on the cushion and fell back to third. I was mad at myself again. I knew I just had to clear him and was able to run bottom in three and four and then I had to just rip the top in the last few laps and get by Ricky. What a phenomenal race. Gosh that was so fun.” Thornton, who placed third in the season-opener on Thursday night finished one spot better. “I don’t think I could have done anything different in those last few laps. I knew if I would move up, I might have ended up fifth. I didn’t want to move Ross [Robinson] off the bottom, because you don’t really need that in these deals. I will take a second. The crew is all happy. It was another solid night for the team.” Overton, who ended up third was still smiling afterwards despite having his Golden Isles win streak come to an end. “That was a heck of race. It was cleaned up around the bottom. I kept seeing Kyle stick his nose up there and then I see him get kind of stuck and then I said let’s give it a whirl up there and see what happens. It is what it is. You win some and you lose some. We will take it. It was fun so we will go onto to tomorrow and try and put on another show.” The winner’s Rumley Enterprises, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsor by FloRacing, D&E Marine, Hot Rod Septic, Senior Life Insurance Company, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, HendrickCars.com, Valvoline, and VP Fuels. Completing the top ten were Dennis Erb Jr., Daulton Wilson, Devin Moran, Kyle Strickler, and Jonathan Davenport. Overton Claims Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Opener
| WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (January 26, 2023) – Brandon Overton continued his mastery of Golden Isles Speedway – winning Thursday’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season opener. It was the Georgia native’s third consecutive Lucas Oil victory at the 4/10-mile oval after winning the final two nights of the Super Clean Super Bowl of Racing in 2022. Overton held off a hard-charging Tim McCreadie on the final lap to secure his 15th career Lucas Oil win. McCreadie, the two-time and reigning Lucas Oil National Champion came from the tenth starting spot to finish just .402 seconds behind Overton. Ricky Thornton Jr. was third, with Devin Moran and Daulton Wilson rounding out the top five finishers. Overton led the first circuit before the caution flew with just one lap scored. On the restart Overton would maintain the top spot with Thornton moving to second. Hudson O’Neal, the fastest qualifier of the 50 entrants, was on the move early on moving from seventh to third by lap five. Thornton and O’Neal had a side-by-side duel for a several laps until O’Neal cleared his fellow Indiana racer. Overton was setting a steady pace out front as McCreadie was marching through the field from his outside row five starting position. McCreadie climbed to second around O’Neal on lap 18. The top four with 10 laps remaining were Overton, McCreadie, O’Neal, and Jonathan Davenport. However, a caution for O’Neal and Davenport would fly relegating both to the tail. On the restart Overton began pulling away from McCreadie as Thornton was commanding the third spot. Overton would catch the back of the field in the waning laps as McCreadie tried one last ditch effort coming to the checkered flag falling just short at the finish. Overton in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the fourth time in his career at Golden Isles said: “When you’re out front like that you are just a sitting duck. You don’t know where to go. My crew did a good job of moving me around. I have lost a lot of races when I have been loose, but I was getting too tight because I couldn’t stay on the bottom. This race car is awesome this is the first night on it.” “I think I was a little rusty qualifying,” Overton added. “I got out and I felt really good, and I found out I was fourth. We made up for it in the heat race and got us a good starting spot and we made the right tire choice. So, everything worked out for us. I hope the fans enjoyed it. We love coming here to race in front of people I grew up with. I am looking forward to the rest of the weekend.” McCreadie, who will be seeking his third straight Lucas Oil title this year came home in the runner-up slot. “I knew if I was going to try and poke him on the outside I had about a lap or maybe a lap and a half to do it because the good racers they can see their guys. There is no shame in running second. We just have to qualify better I messed up and did a bad job qualifying and it put us behind all night long. We passed a lot of fast cars to finish where we did.” Thornton, who finished third in last year’s championship standings rounded out the podium. “It’s a good start to the season. I would give it an A+ for us, we didn’t have any luck here last year. With the misfortune to JD [Davenport] and Hud [O’Neal] we were able to capitalize on that.” The winner’s Wells and Sons Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Garnto Southern, Muscle Factory, Victory Fuel Flavored Electrolyte Water, Clean Way Clearing and Grading, R.W. Construction, Boswell Oil, Penske Racing Shocks, EZ-GO, Dirt Mafia, Convenient Lube, H&A Development, and Earnhardt Technologies. The Corvette Z06 GT3.R will race for the first time as part of the GT Daytona (GTD) PRO category at the 2024 Rolex 24 At Daytona to open next year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. “The Corvette Z06 GT3.R breaks new ground for Chevrolet and the Corvette Racing program,” said Mark Stielow, director, GM Motorsports Engineering Competition. “This customer-focused racecar leverages learnings from throughout Corvette Racing’s lengthy and successful history, plus the expertise of our Corvette production design, engineering and powertrain teams.” |
| Track and streetThe Z06 GT3.R is a landmark racing vehicle for Chevrolet. Based on the highly acclaimed mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette Z06 supercar, this new race car takes the level of technology transfer between racing and production to a new level with more shared components and features than ever before. “Corvette Racing has been an important influence on the design of Corvette production cars for 25 years,” said Tadge Juechter, executive chief engineer, Corvette. “Corvette production and racing teams worked together closely in development to maximize the benefits of a mid-engine design, sharing lessons learned that set both programs up for all-out performance on the track.” The Z06 GT3.R begins its life as an aluminum chassis frame from Chevrolet’s Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky[i]. The frame provides a lightweight yet strong and durable underpinning for both Z06 and Z06 GT3.R. Once in Michigan at Pratt Miller, a purpose-built steel roll cage is welded onto a base plate, which is secured to the chassis. A double-wishbone suspension at the front and rear promotes a higher level of adjustability and fitment of racing-specific tire sizes. This is the same front and rear suspension configuration as on the Z06 production vehicle. The motorsports engineering team added race springs and dampers, competition-specific rotors, calipers and pads. The Z06 GT3.R rides on 18-inch front and rear wheels — the same as on the C8.R. Advanced aerodynamic strategies also link the road-going Corvette and its GT3 counterpart. Motorsports engineers worked with the GM Design Studio to develop an aero package specific to the Z06 GT3.R to optimize levels of downforce, stability, drag reduction and cooling. The goal was to design a GT3-spec Corvette that is suitable across different tire specifications, balance-of-performance settings and other customer preferences while not sacrificing performance or drivability on a variety of tracks and racing surfaces. In order to enhance performance of the Z06 and Z06 GT3.R, each uses similar carbon fiber splitters which provide optimal downforce at the front of the vehicles. On the underside of the Z06 GT3.R, a new and purpose-designed carbon fiber diffuser routes air from the front the car toward the rear in order to create an optimal level of overall car stability. The underbody aerodynamic devices work together in complementing the functionality of a new-for-2024 wing that aids in airflow at the rear of the Z06 GT3.R and the creation of downforce for enhanced cornering ability. Aggressive and efficient ducting will move air to cool internal components. Intakes at the front of the Z06 GT3.R draw in air to cool the front brakes. A single, large opening on the hood — a new design philosophy from the C8.R — extracts out air after it moves over the radiator. From the top of the windshield to the rear of the car, the surface elements of the Z06 stayed intact for the Z06 GT3.R, accentuating the tie between production and racing. Most notable are side air ducts behind the doors — directly inspired by Z06 production road car — that help to cool the engine, transaxle and rear brakes. Corvette production power for Z06 GT3.RThe Corvette Z06 GT3.R will feature a 5.5-liter, flat-plane crankshaft DOHC V-8 engine derived from the production Z06. This engine began on-track development in 2019 with the initial testing of the C8.R, ahead of its use in the production Z06. The LT6 engine for the GT3.R originates from the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green, the same line on which all production Corvette Z06 engines are built. The 5.5-liter powerplant shares more than 70 percent of its parts with the production Z06 engine, including the crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder heads, fuel injectors, coils, gaskets and a variety of other sensors. “Racing continues to play a key role in the development of our production engines,” said Russ O’Blenes, director, Performance and Racing Propulsion Team. “There were valuable lessons learned during the C5-R through C7.R programs that aided in the development of our V-8 engines for production and racing — many dealing with efficiency, materials and light-weighting. The flow of information from Corvette Racing to production engineering and back has helped us build race and street-car engines that are fast, reliable and efficient.” |

ROAD TO VOLUSIA: UMP Modified Florida Speedweeks Takes on North Florida, East Bay, DIRTcar Nationals
Thirteen-race grind begins Jan. 28 at North Florida Speedway
BARBERVILLE, FL – Jan. 26, 2023 – Before the iconic Big Gator trophy is awarded at the 52nd Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, Feb. 6-18, some of DIRTcar’s most hardcore racers will take the road less traveled and pursue the UMP Florida Modified Speedweeks championship.
The three-week grind compacts 13 races into 15 days, spread across North Florida Speedway in Lake City, East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, and Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville. An overall points tally will be kept, with drivers earning points for their finishes in each Feature to determine the champion after the final race day at Volusia on Saturday, Feb. 11.
A $2,000 check is on the line for the points champion with additional cash bonuses going to the rest of the top-10 points finishers. Past champions include Tyler Nicely, of Owensboro, KY, Oklahoma Modified veteran Jason Hughes and the defending Speedweeks champion from Paris, TN, Lucas Lee.
North Florida Winternationals – Jan. 28-29
North Florida Speedway in Lake City, FL, hosts the kickoff to the 13-race grind with a two-day Winternationals event at the 3/8-mile oval. The track is under new management this year and is set to host its first headline DIRTcar UMP Modified event with new owner/promoter Tom Bell at the helm. Bell, a former UMP Modified racer from Indiana, begins his first full season as head of the track this weekend.
Saturday’s Feature pays $1,000 to the winner with $2,000 going to Sunday’s winner. Past Winternationals Feature winners include Nicely, Illinois regional champion Allen Weisser and local favorite Jason Garver.
East Bay Winternationals – Jan. 31-Feb. 4.
After a day of practice on Monday, the Speedweeks intensity picks up with the start of a five-race trek at East Bay Raceway Park as part of the track’s 47th annual monthlong Winternationals event. Standing as one of the most unique racing venues in the State of Florida, drivers will navigate its one-of-a-kind black clay surface over five-straight nights for increasing grand prizes as the week progresses.
Tuesday and Wednesday’s Features are $1,000-to-win, Thursday and Friday offer $1,500-to-win, while the Saturday finale pays $5,000 to the 75-lap Feature winner. Seventy-five laps stands as one of the longest UMP Modified events run anywhere in the country, adding a unique endurance element to the event, and also includes a planned competition caution for refueling.
The famed “Clay by the Bay” track surface offers another challenge found at few other dirt tracks. Located on the east side of the Hillsborough Bay in Tampa, the nearby water has been shown to soak through the dirt and bleed back up onto the surface during high-tide, changing the track conditions mid-race.
52nd Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals – Feb. 6-11
The final push for the Florida Speedweeks championship goes through the single toughest test in DIRTcar UMP Modified racing. The previous two editions of DIRTcar Nationals featured a roster of over 100 total UMP Modifieds competing over the six-day stretch. A similar, if not larger, car count is expected again this year.
The event format has been completely overhauled for 2023, featuring six separate Features on each of the first five nights of competition. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday’s Features will be lined up by Qualifying laps, while Thursday will set the field according to points accumulated by each driver over the previous three nights. Friday’s field will be split in half for the Gator Qualifier night before the $5,000-to-win Gator Championship event on Saturday.

The driver with the most points at week’s end will be crowned DIRTcar Nationals Big Gator champion and hoist the iconic Big Gator trophy. The Florida Speedweeks champion will also be determined after Saturday night, awarded to the driver with the most points over the three-week series.

DRIVE FOR FIVE: Brad Sweet & Kasey Kahne Racing Continue Championship Chasing with World of Outlaws in 2023
| 87-Race Championship Begins on February 9-11 at Volusia’s DIRTcar NationalsCONCORD, NC – January 26, 2023 – The “Rour for 4” is complete and now the “Drive for 5” is on for Brad Sweet and Kasey Kahne Racing. After announcing a multi-year extension to keep loyal partner NAPA Auto Parts on the #49, the four-time and reigning World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champions announced today their intentions to return full-time in pursuit of a fifth consecutive title with The Greatest Show on Dirt in 2023.Already establishing himself as a future Hall of Famer, Sweet’s fourth championship last year gives him the third most in the 45-year history of the World of Outlaws – trailing only Steve Kinser (20) and Donny Schatz (10). The longest streak of consecutive championships is six-straight by Kinser from 1983-88, an iconic feat that Sweet is still determined to reach by the end of 2024.”Winning at the highest level of Sprint Car Racing is something you don’t take for granted, and I think our consistent drive for more success and passion to be better is what has made our Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 team so strong over the years,” Sweet lamented on his successes. “You’re never perfect out here on the road, so there are always improvements to be made and we are always chasing those. I think last year was kind of statistically, if you will, our worst championship in a way. Winning only five races was strange, especially after winning 16 before that, so there’s a big chip on our shoulder coming back this year.”Although his numbers at the top dropped in 2022, the 37-year-old native of Grass Valley, CA remained as consistent as ever as he outdueled championship competitors David Gravel, Carson Macedo, Donny Schatz, Sheldon Haudenschild, Logan Schuchart, and more. For the second time in four years, the title hunt came down to the final race of the season but yet again, the #49 withstood the pressure and thrived when they needed it most.As a 2018 Knoxville Nationals champion and two-time Kings Royal winner, Sweet’s successes – and struggles – on the biggest stages in the sport have prepared him for all of the ups and downs of a grueling World of Outlaws campaign. Entering his 10th year on tour in 2023, The Big Cat joins an elite group of veterans who have been traveling down the road for more than a decade-plus and that experience is one of his biggest advantages.”Experience is the single greatest asset you can have as a Sprint Car driver,” Sweet added. “You saw it with Donny [Schatz] and so many other eventual stars, this is a process and it takes time but if you put in the work, it pays off in the end. Your mindset really changes over the years as we learn more and more and that has been a tool I’ve put to use battling for championships. I try not to think about the points until maybe September. To me, if I’m winning, I’m doing my job and the rest will take care of itself.”Entering this year, Sweet’s career numbers with the World of Outlaws read as follows – 793 starts, 79 wins, 257 podiums, 406 top fives, 610 top 10s, 2,446 laps led, 69 Quick Times, and 216 Heat wins. He’s currently five away from tying Stevie Smith for 10th on the All-Time Win List, which would give us a new member of the top-10 for the first time since his former KKR teammate Daryn Pittman surpassed Jac Haudenschild in 2018.After building a dynasty with the same three core crew members since 2019, the mold of the Kasey Kahne Racing #49 team will look slightly different in 2023 following the departure of car chief Joe Mooney – who took over the crew chief role for Pennsylvania’s Anthony Macri.Eric Prutzman – a disciple of the legendary Ricky Warner – will remain as Sweet’s crew chief and Ohio-native Andrew Bowman is back for his sixth season as Tire Specialist, but they’ll welcome a new Car Chief in Tye Wolfgang – transitioning in-house from Kasey Kahne’s #9 team.”I think our camaraderie, you know having the same group of guys for so long, has played a large part in our success,” Sweet noted. “It will obviously be a little bit different with Joe moving on, but he’s got a really great opportunity to further his career and we’re all thrilled for him. Luckily, Tye isn’t a stranger to our operation at all coming over from Kasey’s team, so hopefully we can all get acquainted with each other and hit the ground running.”Sweet’s 10th full-time season on the World of Outlaws tour officially begins with the season-opening Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park on February 9-11. At 64 appearances, “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile” is his third third-most visited track and home to more of his wins (6) than any other on tour. He’s already one of three drivers to earn the Big Gator Championship twice, but now has aspirations of becoming the first to do so on three occasions in Barberville, FL.The Kasey Kahne Racing #49 will continue to use Cappetta Engines and Maxim Chassis, and will be supported by NAPA Auto Parts, Karavan Trailers, FuelMe, Curb Records, ASE Certifications, Kahne Screen Print, Aerodine, AL Driveline, ATL, Brown and Miller, Cometic Gaskets, C & R Racing, Debeer Paint, Durst, Donovan Engines, Engler Machine, FK Rod Ends, FK Shocks, Godfrey Engines, HMS Motorsports, Kaedings Performance, KSE Racing Products, K1, Racing Optics, RPM Chassis, Shadow Graphics, Schoenfeld Headers, Smith Titanium, Weld Wheels, Wing Dynamics, Winters Performance, and WIX Filters. To watch Sweet and the rest of the Outlaws all year, get tickets HERE or watch every race live on DIRTVision. |
SMOOTH LEARNER: Bobby Pierce Battles Learning Curve, Prepares for DIRTcar Nationals
The Oakwood, IL driver chases his first “Big Gator” trophy at Volusia Speedway Park Feb. 16-18
Barberville, FL– January 26, 2023 – Bobby Pierce has accomplished many feats throughout his career. However, 2023 will present new mountains to climb.
While navigating his first full tour with the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Models, he’ll be doing so in a new chassis – a Longhorn.
In the offseason, Pierce announced he was switching to Longhorn from his dad’s Bob Pierce Race Cars. And it didn’t take long for “The Smooth Operator” to get acquainted. He found Victory Lane in his fourth race at Vado Speedway and backed it up with a second win earlier this month.
However, when he returns to Volusia Speedway Park for Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals on Feb. 16-18, he knows his new venture is still a work in progress.
“Volusia was my first race on a really big track with the Longhorn,” Pierce said. “Two years ago, we had a lot of success, and that was kind of one of the reasons I wanted to come back. We felt like we were pretty confident out there in Vado with it, so we figured we’d come here and have the same luck and see what we could do.
“We know this year is going to be a bit of a learning curve just getting adjusted to it and figuring out what makes it fast on all different types of surfaces. So, we’re excited.”
Pierce will see those different types of surfaces soon after Volusia when the Series visits Smoky Mountain Speedway, March 3-4, and Boyd’s Speedway, March 17-18.
While those tracks aren’t his forte, he said being comfortable in the new chassis already will be a key benefit.
“I’m pretty confident that we’ll have a decent run,” Pierce said. “They really seem to be maneuverable on a lot of surfaces, and the comfortability inside the race car is probably the key. You have to be comfortable, and I feel like these cars have a good balance and a good attitude.
“It’s definitely not my cup of tea, but we’ll just give it our best shot and go from there. That’s all you can do.”
After the Series battles in Tennessee and Georgia, it’ll return to a routine stop in Pierce’s home state—Farmer City Raceway, March 31-April 1.
The last time World of Outlaws CASE Late Models raced at the Central Illinois track, he scored his first Series triumph in the Illini 100. It’s a place he’s excited to get back to, along with Mississippi Thunder Speedway, Boone Speedway, and Tri-City Speedway, where he’s also found success.
“I’ll be excited when I get to places I’m familiar with,” Pierce said. “But until we get to some of those places. It’s doing what you can. Learn what you can. Drive hard and try to do your best.”
However, before the season moves into the Spring portion of the schedule, he knows there’s another feat he wants to accomplish—a Big Gator championship trophy at DIRTcar Nationals.
Pierce narrowly missed out on winning the gator in 2021, finishing second to Devin Moran. With that experience, he knows what it’ll take to stand tall at the end of the week-long chase.
“Just like anything, you have to qualify well,” Pierce said. “But, on this really fast half-mile, I think it’s super important. If you can get that down to a science, the rest of the night goes a lot easier. But this competition, there’s a lot of competition, a lot of good guys who will be here. It’ll be tough. We just have to try to do the best we can.
“Hopefully, we can win it this time.”
Pierce and the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models return to action on February 16-18 at Volusia Speedway Park during Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals. FOR TICKETS: CLICK HERE.

This is the second consecutive year that Ferris has partnered with Dillon and marks the 10-year anniversary of the brand’s first sponsorship of the North Carolina veteran driver. The Ferris brand originally partnered with Dillon in the dirt late model series in 2013. Ferris will also be featured on Dillon’s No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Cup Series. “Ty is a great ambassador for the Ferris brand, and we enjoy a great relationship with him,” said Christin Wam, senior director of marketing, Briggs & Stratton. “We’re excited to see what he can do this season with both Spire Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing.” “I’m excited to be partnering with Ferris once again,” said Dillon. “Ferris has supported my career since 2013 when I drove dirt late models and I’m grateful for a continuing relationship. To carry and represent their brand 10 years later is an honor and I know we will accomplish great success on and off the track in 2023.” The links between Ferris and racing run deep. The company’s patented suspension system is inspired by stock-car racing. That suspension system is unlike any other in the outdoor power equipment industry and is prized by lawn contractors for its comfort, traction and mowing efficiency. |

CORVETTE RACING AT DAYTONA: Twenty-Five Years and Counting
| Celebrating the start of a landmark season at Daytona surrounded by Chevrolet vehicles DETROIT (Jan. 25, 2023) – Twenty-five years ago, no one knew what to expect when two Chevrolet Corvette C5-R racecars showed up at Daytona International Speedway for the Rolex 24 At Daytona – the first event for the then-new factory sports car program. The volumes of stories and successes that came after that first race are enough to fill up multiple books. That’s what happens when a single program with the same manufacturer, the same team and the same car wins 122 races around the world – including four at the Rolex 24 – to go along with 15 Team championships, 14 Manufacturers and Drivers titles in North American competition and more than 350,000 racing miles covered. Chevrolet and Corvette Racing leaders, current and past drivers offer their thoughts on this monumental achievement and what Corvette Racing has meant to them personally… |

| JIM CAMPBELL, CHEVROLET U.S. VICE PRESIDENT, PERFORMANCE AND MOTORSPORTS: “Twenty-five years of Corvette Racing is a remarkable achievement. I remember being part of our first race at Daytona in 1999 and the excitement around our first race. Now 25 years later, that level of anticipation and thrill remains for everyone within our team and our Corvette owners and supporters. This program is a benchmark in our company for technology and development transferring from racetrack to showroom. Engine technology, advanced aerodynamics and light-weighting materials are hallmarks of how Corvette Racing has influenced Chevrolet vehicles for 25 years. I can’t thank the team members, our Corvette owners and our Corvette fans enough for their 25 years of loyalty, and we look forward to many more.” LAURA WONTROP KLAUSER, GM SPORTS CAR RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “Corvette Racing is very special to me personally. Coming from the production side of Chevrolet, I saw first-hand the influence that our motorsports participation – Corvette Racing, in particular – had in design and development. It was nothing new as the program already had established itself as a leader in technology transfer. But seeing that in real-life was very cool, especially given the Corvette I had in my garage. Moving to competition and working close with the Corvette Racing team – the crew, the engineers and the drivers – and meeting so many of our passion Corvette owners and fans has been an absolute thrill of a lifetime. As exciting as that is, I’m even more excited for what the future holds for Corvette Racing.” ANTONIO GARCIA, CURRENT CORVETTE RACING DRIVER: “I knew when I joined Corvette Racing that my goal was to be here long-term. I’m really happy that it worked out that way. When I joined in 2009, I had the option to stay with another manufacturer, but I had discovered American racing a few years before that and my choice was to join what I thought was the best team, and I still think we are the best. I’m very thankful. It’s quite unique to see a 25-year relationship at this level. I’m happy to have driven Corvettes for 14 years and going on 15.“The first time I saw Corvette Racing was watching footage of the win at Daytona in 2001. Even though I wasn’t racing in sports cars then, I still saw a lot of the Le Mans 24 Hours. You knew those yellow cars were going around and winning races. When I moved to GT in 2006, we knew that the bigger battles would be in America with Aston Martin vs. Corvette. I was on the other side then and experienced how hard those battles were when we would race at Le Mans and Sebring. My eyes were really opened to how hard Corvette Racing competed. The relationship between the two teams was great always.“This is part of the Corvette Racing environment: My family has always been welcomed in and it is an extended family. During the week at home, I have my own family and on the weekends I have Corvette Racing. When I joined, I was 28 and was probably one of the youngest members of the team. Now it’s the complete opposite! I don’t know how many people on the team are older than me now! But I’m happy I can still provide experience and speed to the team. Consistency is big here and so is experience.” JORDAN TAYLOR, CURRENT CORVETTE RACING DRIVER: “It’s amazing. In motorsports, I don’t know how many relationships make it to 25 years. For GM, Chevrolet, Pratt Miller and Corvette Racing to be this family for so long, it comes down to success. If they weren’t successful, I don’t think this relationship would still be going on. It speaks volumes for everyone involved. For me to be part of it for all these years is a very special feeling and something I’m very proud of. The last few years as a full-time driver have been amazing with winning a couple of championships and winning races like Daytona and Sebring and all the special ones that everyone talks about is huge, and that’s what Corvette Racing is known for.“I was 10 years old at Le Mans watching my dad for the first time, and we shared hospitality with Corvette Racing. So I saw it first-hand back then seeing all the Corvette Racing guys on the biggest stage against the biggest manufacturers. It was always the goal back then to be in that position so for all of that to come full circle, it’s almost impossible to believe that it’s happened. It’s hard to picture that I was once a kid watching the team back then. It’s super special and something I’m always thankful for. I know the opportunity could have never come and I could have been doing something way different with my life. It’s always something I’m thankful for.” TOMMY MILNER, CURRENT CORVETTE RACING DRIVER: “Twenty-five years is incredible for a team and car manufacturer partnership. To last that long is unheard of. It’s a testament to how well the foundations of the program from Day One have allowed it to continue this long. Each year, the team and Chevrolet grow that relationship and partnership with closer links to racecar and production cars. In many ways, it starts with the commitment that Chevrolet has toward sports car racing – not just in the United States but around the world. “Car manufacturers oftentimes love to play for a little bit and then take a break or go somewhere else. But Chevrolet and Corvette have been consistently here for 25 years. Any car manufacturer looking at going racing needs to look at what Corvette Racing has done. The production cars have transformed from what they had been in the late 1990s when this program came about to where the eighth-generation Corvette is now. In terms of being faster, better handling and everything you want in a car, the Corvette has improved over the years. The racecars have gone hand-in-hand with those production cars as well in improving over the years. It’s a good mirror of having a great product for the road and a great product on the racetrack. I feel very fortunate to have been part of this program for as long as I have, and hopefully that continues on in the future.” RON FELLOWS, CORVETTE RACING DRIVER FROM 1999-2007: “It’s amazing. I sat down with some of the Chevy leadership in September of 1997 and they talked about taking a Corvette to Le Mans. I was dumbfounded! But they were serious about it and said they wanted me to be part of it and lead the program as a driver. I couldn’t say yes fast enough! “It’s great to see not only the success of Corvette Racing but also the development of generations of production Corvette. They both improved hand-in-hand. To see how both have evolved is awesome to look at.”We certainly learned a ton at that first Rolex 24. And we continued to get better throughout 1999 and into 2000. When you look at how long development occurred, you realize how much work went into it. In 2000, we knew we had a fast car and it was a matter of putting all the pieces together to finish it off. But the evolution of the cars and people was phenomenal. There were tough times but everyone kept digging and we were all better for it.” OLIVER GAVIN, CORVETTE RACING DRIVER FROM 2002-2020: “When I first tested for Corvette Racing in 2001, the team already was established and it was a force in the paddocks of the American Le Mans Series and at Le Mans. When you get into three or four years of a program, you think that something will change and something will happen to move on to the next thing. But it was amazing to see how Corvette Racing grew from C5-R to C6.R through the different competition we faced. The racing back then, thinking about it now, makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. It was fantastic fun and great, intense racing. “You get to 2010 and I’d been there for nine seasons. You think how this keeps building and building every year. The competition level in any form of GT racing is so high, no matter where you go. But this team has constantly been running at the front. Part of that key is building on the foundation of the road car, and you see that from generation to generation. You see the lessons that have been learned and how they are applied in production and with the race team. It shows how hard everyone works together and the overall effort of the individual groups. Everyone is pulling in the same direction and wanting to keep progressing and continuing the level and standard that Corvette Racing has established for so long.” |
Veteran Tuner Mike Guger Joins Buddy Hull Racing as Crew Chief
DALLAS, TX (January 25, 2023) — Buddy Hull announced Methanol Moonshine as his primary sponsor in December at the PRI Show and today the Dallas-based Top Fuel driver announced veteran Top Fuel tuner Mike Guger will take the reins as his full-time crew chief. Hull plans to race at least eight races in the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series. Hull’s first race this season will be the Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Motorsports Park at the end of March.
“Adding someone like Mike Guger to the team is a dream come true,” said Hull. “He has so much experience and has worked with so many great drivers, I honestly pinched myself after he said yes to working with our team. We are building a solid foundation to move forward and Mike along with David Shaff, our car chief. They will be a great one-two punch. David joined our team over a year ago and has shown great leadership from the beginning as well as a great work ethic. I can’t wait to get to Phoenix and see what we can do.”
Guger, who learned the basics of drag racing under the tutelage of Hall of Famer Dale Armstrong, was crew chief first to Larry Dixon and then to Leah Pruett when they drove Top Fuel dragsters for Bob Vandergriff Jr. in 2015 and 2016.
Mike Guger
“I am excited to get back to leading a Top Fuel team. I was really impressed with the parts Buddy has as well as his attitude and goals. I have known David for a while and he helped me with my Funny Car. He is a great worker and I am really comfortable with him. Buddy has given me free reign and I think we will work very well together. I have been trying to stay on top of the sport. I haven’t been hands on day to day but I will be honest, I make an effort every day to think about racing . I stay in touch with a lot of the current crew chiefs, and I think with Buddy’s inventory and his team we can have some fun and turn some heads.”
He began a lengthy association with Armstrong when he was just 13, eventually working his way into a position as Armstrong’s crew facilitator when he and Hall of Famer Kenny Bernstein dominated the pro tour in Funny Car and later in Top Fuel.
“What I learned from Dale was just a work ethic,” Guger said, “how to conduct yourself; how to tune the car. I have been fortunate to work with great people throughout my career. I want to especially thank Robert Mills for giving me the flexibility to work with Buddy and his team.”
In 2015, after securing his first crew chief assignment, Guger sent Dixon to the two No. 1 starts and six final round appearances. Unfortunately, the duo never could close the deal and wound up fourth in the final Top Fuel point standings.
A year later, Guger won his first race as crew chief when Pruett beat Brittany Force in the final round at Phoenix. A month-and-a-half later, though, after only four races, Vandergriff pulled the plug on his two-car team and Guger found himself once again without a full-time gig.
A resident of Austin, Texas, he has worked the past several years for Integrated Metal Products, Inc., while working to secure a license to drive a fuel Funny Car.
Additionally, long-time Buddy Hull Racing crew member Shaff has been promoted to car chief for the 2023 season and beyond. Shaff joined Buddy Hull Racing in January of 2022. Hull will continue to work with Tim Wilkerson in the transition and Wilkerson will continue to manage the machine work on Hull’s blocks and heads.
“I can’t thank Tim Wilkerson enough for all the support he has shown me since I started driving and also well before that,” said Hull. “I have known Tim all my life and his support and guidance has been so critical and helpful to me as a driver, team owner and a person. He is one of the greatest guys I know.”
Buddy Hull Racing and Methanol Moonshine will collaborate on a uniquely themed brand of merchandise available exclusively through Buddy’s website and other merchandise avenues. The team is currently talking with a variety of vendors for the 2023 season.
“Methanol Moonshine is an absolute perfect fit with our team and the look of the car is something special. I can’t wait to launch this partnership into a new gear through our racing program and hopefully make that trip ‘down under’ to race in a dragster there as well,” added Hull.

Cadillac Racing bullish on hybrid car for 24-hour debut
| Three Cadillac prototypes to take green flag for 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona in GTP class |
| DETROIT (Jan. 24, 2023) — Nine Cadillac Racing drivers, their respective team personnel and a large support group have the common goal of visiting Victory Circle in the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona. Excitement has been building for the debut of the three Cadillac hybrid prototypes in the reborn Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class with the command to start engines Saturday, Jan. 28, for the twice-around-the-clock race given by grand marshal Mark Reuss, president of General Motors. |
| The No. 01 Cadillac prototype led the three-car contingent in the 20-minute qualifying session on the 3.56-mile, 12-turn Daytona International Speedway road course by claiming a second-row spot. The No. 02 Cadillac prototype qualified fifth and the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac qualified sixth. Cadillac Racing has earned the overall victory in the Rolex 24 At Daytona – the traditional season-opening race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – four times since the 2017 debut of the DPi class. Not one has come from a pole start. “I think there’s always a big excitement coming into a new season, especially with the first event so big,” said 2021 DPi champion Pipo Derani, co-driver of the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac prototype with Alexander Sims and Jack Aitken. “After you do this for a few years, you learn how to control your emotions. Everything just falls into place. You just do what you have to do. Once you focus on that and know you have that support from the team, then you’re also more relaxed. | Commanding leadThe exciting Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing — a 10Best for ’23 by Car and Driver — is a Safety Car for the race that takes the green flag at 1:40 p.m. ET. | “There’s really nothing different to do than what you’ve already done and those things have worked because we’ve won races and championships. That also helps you calm down and focus on the important things. Come race day and come Sunday afternoon, you hope everything fell into place and you have the shot at victory in this event.” Design of the new race car began more than two years ago, with on-track development beginning in July 2022. Cadillac Racing continues to collect data and gain insights about the car, its systems and the new Michelin tires with every on-track session. And the race will be a learning opportunity for future events. GTP entries have five free practice sessions available over Thursday and Friday. “There has been a ton of work leading up to that moment here in Daytona to get ready and get the cars there,” said Sebastien Bourdais, co-driver with Renger van der Zande and Scott Dixon of the No. 01 Cadillac entry. “Every time there’s a regulation change, you show up at Daytona, the hardest race of the year, it’s a 24-hour race, and it’s in January. Nobody feels ready, but you’ve got a job ahead and you have to make the best of it. Thanks for all of the efforts the team has done whether at Cadillac or at Ganassi. Looking forward to a great season, and it starts today.” |
| The electrified Cadillac prototype features an all-new Cadillac 5.5-liter DOHC V8 engine developed by GM’s Performance and Racing propulsion team based in Pontiac, Michigan, with a seven-speed sequential gearbox. IMSA has specified the power output at 670 horsepower, including the hybrid system; weight at 1,030kg without fuel and driver; and a maximum of 8,800 RPM. Cadillac, the only LMDh manufacturer with a naturally aspirated engine in the GTP class, will seek to build on its legacy of success in the 61st Rolex 24 At Daytona with its fifth overall victory 2017. The list:* 2020 (Renger van der Zande, Ryan Briscoe, Scott Dixon, Kamui Kobayashi)* 2019 (Renger van der Zande, Fernando Alonso; Jordan Taylor, Kamui Kobayashi)* 2018 (Christian Fittipaldi, Filipe Albuquerque, Joao Barbosa)* 2017 (Jeff Gordon, Jordan Taylor, Ricky Taylor, Max Angelelli) Also, since 2017, a Cadillac prototype has recorded 27 victories in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition – the most by any manufacturer — and three Manufacturer Championships. I think it bodes well for the race. Now it’s just about executing, making no mistakes. It’s like a crash course of learning. There’s so much to absorb, so much to figure out, so much to strategize with the new car because up until not long ago we were completely in practice mode trying to get the car reliable, tire testing, this and that and the other and then all of a sudden get ready for the biggest race of the season. It’s a big adjustment, mind switch and get into the racing vibe for a 24-hour race with my two great teammates. We’ve learned a lot of the car and we’re gaining confidence.” Renger van der Zande: “I’m excited how close the field is; everybody is within a couple of tenths (of a second) and that’s an impressive effort for a new class, new regulations and for the systems that have been put in place to go racing for the future. Starting fourth is an amazing achievement and a compliment to whole team.” Scott Dixon: “I’m looking forward to the race this weekend. It’s kind of crazy when you look at the preparation from when the first car arrived to its development of it and how the technology has shifted. It’s been fun to work with it, so I think everyone is excited to finally get to the race. There’s been a lot of prep and lead time and expectations for this one. It’s one of my favorite races of the year. You get to drive the car a lot, you get to have some fantastic racing. I think this year one of the largest fields that we’ve seen in years. It’s going to be fun, but I think it will possibly a race of reliability as well. Knock on wood that we’ve done as much as we can as a group between Cadillac, GM and Chip Ganassi Racing that we can make it to the win and be fighting for the win.” No. 02 Cadillac (qualified fifth)Richard Westbrook: “We had a productive three days at the Roar. We got exactly what we were searching for, which is more miles, more knowledge about the car, more knowledge about the tire and more knowledge about the whole new formula that we’re going into. Now we’re all out there together, we can see our pace against everyone else and it just makes us all more even more determined and excited with one eye on the future.” Earl Bamber: “A good qualifying with everyone learning these cars. We can see already that it’s ultra-competitive and it’s a true credit to IMSA, the manufacturers, the teams and everyone who’s been involved to make for a great race.” Alex Lynn: “I really am enjoying driving this car and it’s giving me really good feedback. We’re improving so much with each session and it’s a really enjoyable job when you start making huge strides on improving this brand-new vehicle that we got, so I’m excited for the race.” No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac (qualified sixth)Pipo Derani: “The car is working well and the most is that it looks like we have a good car for the race. That’s our goal. We’re trying to use every session that we have, even qualifying, to learn more about our equipment. Any time we can be on track it helps us get better and improve the car. Not the fantastic final result in qualifying but lots of data has been gathered that will help us next week.” Alexander Sims: “We’re working through things in the practice sessions and there are still some things for us to learn with these new cars. We have time this week to try a few things. In the first part of the race we have to take it step by step and try to improve, even if it means making changes during the pit stops – just tweaks we can do during the race – because it’s about being fast at the end and being there at the end. It’s an incredibly tight field and Pipo (Derani) was compromised in qualifying with the red flag, not getting a reference beforehand while others did.” Jack Aitken: “We didn’t get a huge amount of mileage (during the Roar) just with red flags and weather, so this week we’ll keep building on what we’ve learned and get the car dialed in more on specifics. We’re all disappointed with the quals, but it’s probably the least important qualifying of the year for us. I’m looking forward to getting track time in practice and excited to compete for the first time in the race with this team.” |
Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports Eye Sophomore Surge on World of Outlaws Sprint Car Trail
Continued Development the Goal for 2022 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Winner
January 24, 2023 – After a standout debut season with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, Spencer Bayston is back in the CJB Motorsports, TrueTimber #5 full-time with more improvement, more wins, and more experience on his mind.
The 24-year-old native of Lebanon, IN enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2022 and hopes to further that success in 2023. His inaugural year on the road resulted in two wins (Bristol Motor Speedway and Huset’s Speedway), five podium finishes, 16 top-five efforts, 40 top-10 runs, 70 laps led, four QuickTimes, eight Heat Race wins, and 32 Dash appearances.
In the 45th season of World of Outlaws history, Bayston became the seventh driver to score multiple Feature wins in his maiden attempt with The Greatest Show on Dirt and locked up the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award with an eighth-place finish in the championship standings.
“The experience itself exceeded all of my expectations,” Bayston said looking back on 2022. “The environment at the track and being on the road for the first time was all awesome and something I had dreamed of since I was a little kid. In terms of our performance, I feel like we were there most nights and competed at the front, but I think I personally lacked a little bit and I’m excited to get the chance to work on that and continue developing as a full-time Outlaw this year.”
After leading six shows and averaging a 10.66 finish, Bayston is excited to remove the rookie stripes and feels like a “real Outlaw” entering 2023. However, being on the road isn’t the goal; being the best is, and Bayston knows that takes time.
“I feel like I’m part of the group now, but I know there’s a whole new level to reach if I want to be a top dog,” Bayston continued. “I think that is achievable with this team, but I just have to put it all together. There are several little things that kept us from more wins and we have a short list of things to clean up. The good news is we have 90 races to work on that this year.”
Along with the 62nd Knoxville Nationals at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway (Aug. 9-12), the 40th Kings Royal at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway (July 14-15), and the 61st National Open at Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway (Sept. 29-30), Bayston is excited to get back to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD for the second High Bank Nationals – offering a $250,000 payday on June 21-24.
“Huset’s was a big week for us last year with the release of TrueTimber and then winning right out of the gate,” Bayston said. “I think that might be one of my most anticipated weeks of the year. I think we left plenty on the table come showtime last year, so we’re eager for a chance at redemption this year. Plus, how can you not be excited racing for a quarter of a million dollars? I think that will be an epic week.”
Veteran crew chief Barry Jackson will return to lead the #5 Team, along with crew members Aydin Lloyd and Erik Coyle. Based out of Carlisle, PA, the CJB Motorsports camp will enjoy 14 World of Outlaws races in their home state this year – a slight advantage they hope to take capitalize on.
For Bayston, the Lebanon, IN resident will get two nights in “The Hoosier State” with World of Outlaws races at Haubstadt’s Tri-State Speedway on Saturday, April 29, and Lawrenceburg Speedway on Monday, May 29.
His second year on the World of Outlaws tour officially begins with the season-opening Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park on February 9-11. Through a short seven appearances at The World’s Fastest Half-Mile, the former NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget Series champion has admittedly struggled at the Barberville, FL 1/2-mile with a career-best of 16th – a stat he’s determined to improve in two weeks.
CJB Motorsports will again be supported by TrueTimber Camo, Signing Day Sports, Bubbly Brands, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Kistler Engines, The Dunn Group, Highlands’ Power Sports, High Performance Lubricants, FK Rod Ends, Allstar Performance, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Walker Filtration, Schoenfeld Headers, Ti22 Performance, Wilwood Disc Brakes, Fine Line Auto Body, All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads, Smith Titanium, HRP, Factory Kahne Shocks, Kinsler Fuel Injection, ATL, Winters, Fastener Specialties, KSE Racing Products, System 1 Pro Ignition, Maxim Racing, KH Suspension, RRi Designs, QuickCar Racing Products, Outerwears, Moose Blocks, Safety-Kleen.

NEXT LEVEL: Jones, Trifecta Motorsports Join Xtreme Midget Full-Time Roster
Texas-Oklahoma team begins championship chase March 10-11 indoors at Southern Illinois Center
CONCORD, NC – Jan. 23, 2023 – After a career-best run at the 2023 Chili Bowl Nationals, Kyle Jones and the No. 7U Trifecta Motorsports team are committed to chasing the 2023 Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota championship.
Jones and car owner Steve Carbone are currently in their fifth year of partnership, and already have some goals set for the 35-race slate.
“We really want to win a race,” Jones said. “We’ve been really close to winning a national Midget race, and that’s our ultimate goal for sure.
“Once you get over the hill and win the first one, I think they start coming a little bit easier. Of course, none of them are way easy. But we’ve just gotta get over that mountain, and once we do that, I feel like it’ll be a little easier for us.”
Though they did not reach Xtreme Outlaw Victory Lane last season, they came close on more than one occasion – a third-place run after starting on the pole at Davenport Speedway last August, and a fourth-place finish at Port City Raceway in October. Those two top fives and six top 10s collected throughout the season added up to a fourth-place finish in the final points standings.
Together, Jones and Trifecta are reaching new heights every season. For a team that used to compete only at the Chili Bowl, their evolution has been a long and winding road.
Jones was first introduced to the Tulsa, OK-based team when fellow Texan and former NASCAR driver David Starr mentioned Jones’ name to Trifecta management and told them to give Jones a call. Jones got that call during the 2018 season and won the first outdoor race they entered together before competing in their first Chili Bowl the following January.
Fast forward five seasons, and it’s full steam ahead on a full national Midget schedule.
“It’s so awesome to see how much it’s grown over the years,” Jones said. “It went from one race a year, to five races a year, to doing 15… now we’re running a national tour. It’s just really cool to be a part of it.”
With Jones’ Texas residency and the team’s home base in Oklahoma, travel can sometimes have a big presence on the team expense report. However, the great partners for the 2023 Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota season have paved the way for a hefty contingency program and a healthy nightly purse that will keep current teams on the road and attract newcomers to join.
“For some of the races, like the ones out in PA, it makes it a little tough on us,” Jones said. “But the fact that the Xtreme Outlaw Series gives you incentives to get out there and do that, like the tow money and helping with pit passes and stuff like that, it helps a ton. We don’t have to worry about that.”
They’ve already had a strong start to the 2023 season with a solid run at Chili Bowl. A smooth and steady line around the bottom of the Tulsa Expo Raceway in his Tuesday night prelim A-Main drove the 29-year-old Texan from 14th on the starting grid to P2 for several laps at his peak, before ultimately settling for fourth by the checkered flag. That prelim night momentum carried over to Saturday, where, after transferring into the big show from a B-Main, Jones again came from deep on a 16th-to-sixth tear through the A-Main, marking his best career finish in the event.
Taking the momentum that he built-up in Tulsa, Jones is arguably the most confident and comfortable he’s ever been in the car. It’s the jumpstart he and the team needed before the Xtreme Outlaw season opener at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin, IL, Friday-Saturday, March 10-11.
“Your whole year – people think the season starts in March or February or whenever – it starts right here for me,” Jones said. “If you come in here and have a really good run, that’s momentum throughout the whole year.”
