The Night Before the Jackson will be a complete program for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series – highlighted by a $10,000 top prize. Another complete show is on tap for Saturday night, when the 42nd Annual Jackson 100 takes center stage with a $20,000-to-win main event. The Indiana Icebreaker, which began on March 20th but was postponed during the first B-Main event of the night. The Indiana Icebreaker will resume with a complete restart of the first B-Main. Josh Richards and Brandon Sheppard are scheduled to start on the front row of the 50-lap main event paying $15,000-to-win. Kyle Bronson and Devin Moran also picked up heat race wins that night and will start in row two. In 2020, Josh Richards held off a late rally from Ricky Thornton, Jr. to win the “Night Before the Jackson”. Richards was the fourth different leader of the race and held on for the win despite Thornton’s furious charge, which saw the two drivers run side-by-side for several circuits. In the 41st Annual Jackson 100, Davenport led the first 14 laps of the 100-lap event until yielding the lead to the fourth place starting McCreadie. McCreadie survived several restarts to pick-up his second career win in the track’s most prestigious event that began in 1980. Gates will open each day at noon with on track action set to begin at 7:00 PM ET Thursday, 6:30 PM ET on both Friday and Saturday. BRITTANY FORCE AND MONSTER ENERGY LOOKING TO INCREASEPOINTS LEAD AT NHRA MIDWEST NATIONALS
| MADISON, Ill. (Sept. 22, 2021) – Brittany Force and her Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team are entering the NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway just outside of St. Louis with a 21-points lead. The 2017 world champion isn’t letting up, knowing there’s still five races left in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship, the David Grubnic and Mac Savage led crew are going after everything they can get started, like always, in qualifying. Brittany Force and the Monster Energy team are going for nine straight No. 1 qualifiers to tie Gary Beck’s Top Fuel record over the 1982 and 1983 seasons. Her eighth consecutive No. 1 at the NHRA Carolina Nationals, including a strong qualifying performance where she captured all nine bonus points, gave the team a one-point advantage heading into race day. The Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team has a total of 10 No. 1s with one win at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kan., where Brittany went onto share a historic winners circle with legendary father John Force. It was the first time in NHRA history that a parent-child duo had won together in the pro categories. The Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team has been to the finals five times in the 2021 Camping World Drag Racing Series season, most recently finishing runner-up at the Carolina Nationals where it was her semi-final victory over reigning and three-time world champion Steve Torrence that gave her the points lead. “Heading into St. Louis with a slight points lead. Our Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team plans to continue what we’ve been doing. We are looking to get as many points as we can during qualifying and on race day,” Force said. “Eight No. 1 qualifiers in a row is a huge accomplishment and we plan to add to that this weekend while also going for a St. Louis win.” With the season the Monster Energy team has had so far, they’ll enter the Midwest Nationals looking to break a dry spell at the World Wide Technology Raceway. It is the only venue where Force has no No. 1 qualifiers and no wins and one of only five tracks hosting 2021 events a which Force is not the track holder for either time or speed. Fortunately, crew chiefs Grubnic and Savage have had previous success at the facility, being runner-up in 2018 and setting the current track ET record at 3.631 seconds in 2017 with their previous team. For only the sixth time in her career, and first time since 2018, Brittany Force will enter this weekend’s NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway with the points lead. They’ll get things started with the first qualifying session on Friday evening at 6 p.m. and continue with sessions on Saturday at 1:45 and 4:25 p.m. Eliminations are slated to begin Sunday at 10:30 a.m. For television coverage, tune-in Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) for qualifying. Eliminations will air Sunday at 2 p.m. ET on FS1. |
Suicide Prevention Front and Center on the 21 at Vegas
September 22, 2021
Matt DiBenedetto and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team are headed to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, hoping to recapture the magic from 2020 when they scored runner-up finishes in both Cup races. For this weekend’s event, they’re using the No. 21 Mustang to raise awareness for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline during the entire month of September, which is #SuicidePreventionMonth.
Instead of the No. 21 Mustang carrying the usual colors of Motorcraft and Quick Lane, the paint scheme for Sunday’s South Point 400 will focus on the suicide prevention campaign.
Jon Orth, Marketing Manager for Ford Customer Service Division, recently lost a close friend to suicide and spearheaded the effort to use the car to promote suicide prevention and to publicize the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number, which is 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
Part of the weekend effort is to also support the #BeThe1To campaign, which is designed to help people know steps to take if they are concerned about someone who might be considering taking their own life.
DiBenedetto said the paint scheme and the campaign are important to him too.
“Vegas has been an awesome track for us as far as performance, so I’m looking forward to that,” he said. “But bigger than that, I’m really honored to be driving the car to raise awareness for suicide prevention.”
“I have a conviction to always want to help others, and this is a topic close to my heart as we have had people close to us either take their own lives or contemplate it.”
“It’s an honor to be driving this race car this weekend, and I hope we can make a great impact on people to let them know that being vulnerable is OK.”
There will be no practice or qualifying prior to the start of Sunday’s South Point 400, and DiBenedetto will line up 14th, the line-up being set based on results at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The race is set to get the green flag just after 4 p.m. (7 p.m. Eastern Time), with live TV coverage on NBCSN.
Stage breaks are set for Laps 80 and 160.

NASCAR CUP SERIES SOUTH POINT 400 LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY TEAM CHEVY PRESS CONF. TRANSCRIPT SEPTEMBER 22, 2021
WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 AXALTA CAMARO ZL1 1LE, Teleconference Transcript Highlights: THE FACT THAT YOU’VE HAD SOME SUCCESS AT LAS VEGAS, HOW DOES THAT HELP YOUR MINDSET GOING INTO THIS NEXT ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS?“I feel like Las Vegas has been a pretty good track for me in the past. I’ve scored a lot of Stage points in the past races. I think the aggression level is going to be really high on the restarts and that’s kind of your chance to make up ground for a lot of guys at 1.5-mile tracks with the 550 horsepower. So yeah, I think those are going to be crazy. My spotter and I have been working really hard on trying to be really good on those restarts. I think we were good at Michigan. I think we’ve been good at the last 550 horsepower tracks. I’m pretty excited for Las Vegas based on our past history and the way we’ve been running on those tracks.”
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN TAKE FROM THE PRESSURE AT THE BRISTOL RACE RUN AND APPLY IT TO THE REST OF THE PLAYOFFS?“I think for sure. I think for us, we’ve already kind of been through that pressure moment. A lot of guys maybe haven’t that we’re racing against haven’t been through that. Yeah, I feel like for us, we learned a lot about ourselves on Saturday. I feel like we learned a lot about how we can come through under pressure and how we can bring a good race car and how we can execute the race really well. So, it’s been a little while since we’ve had as strong a race as that throughout, and no mistakes. There’s always adversity in a race, but I feel like we handled the adversity that we did have really well and brought it home in third place. So, with that being said, Las Vegas is a lot different than a short track, but I do feel like the way we did perform is going to carry over.”
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WILL REMEMBER ABOUT THAT RACE? WHERE DOES IT RANK FOR YOU CAREER-WISE?“It’s pretty high up there. I was saying this after the race that I feel like I had a similar situation to make it in last year into the Playoffs in general, with my first win, so that was a big deal. But yeah, this one was pretty awesome. I think any time you can do well at Bristol, it’s been a good track for me, but I haven’t had the finishes. It was nice to be there at the end of 500 laps and have a shot to win, honestly, and be really close and see the leaders. I think that was really cool for me and kind of a new feeling. I was excited. I love that night race. Every driver really does. So, it was cool to do well.”
DO YOU BREAK DOWN THE PLAYOFFS SO DEEP THAT YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF HOW MANY POINTS YOU WANT TO SCORE IN THE ROUNDS AND HOW MANY YOU NEED TO SCORE THIS WEEKEND IN LAS VEGAS? OR DO YOU NOT GET THAT DEEP?“I think the team, for sure, does. They definitely kind of know what to expect points-wise, that can help us advance through the rounds. But honestly, the biggest thing is just having a really good race. In the first round, I think having one really good race is almost enough, but I think this race (round) you’ve got to have two or three really good races. So yeah, the Stage points create such a different playing field. If you get a lot of Stage points, you put yourself in a way better position. And you put a good finish on top of that, you’re well above a lot of guys. I think that’s the biggest thing I focus on is trying to get those Stage points and trying to put myself in a good spot for the end.”
LOOKING AHEAD TO TALLADEGA, HOW DO YOU PLAY TRYING TO JOCKEY FOR STAGE POINTS AND HOPE TO AVOID THE BIG ONE EARLIER IN THE RACE?“It’s tough. I think the wrecks and the Stages are possible, but I honestly feel like you’ve just got to go as hard as you can. I’ve tried to play the lay back getting to the front, and all that. There are times that you can chill out just because the momentum of the race isn’t maybe that important in that time, but you’ve got to try to go for those Stage points and put yourself in a good spot. For me, personally, I try to go for the points and see what can happen.”
SOME PEOPLE MIGHT SAY LAS VEGAS IS THE MOST PREDICTABLE RACE IN THIS ROUND. OTHERS SAY VEGAS IS MORE UNPREDICTABLE THAN THE ROVAL BECAUSE EVERYBODY KNOWS WHAT IS THERE. IS VEGAS A MORE PREDICTABLE RACE OR A WILDCARD RACE?“Just because it’s the first race of the round, I think it adds some unpredictability there. A lot of guys can have early mistakes and mishaps at this first race in the round. It’s very easy to kind of take yourself out of it pretty early on. As far as speed and performance goes, I think you kind of know who the big hitters are going to be at this race with the No. 5 (Kyle Larson) and hopefully us and some of the Gibbs cars, and just knowing who has run well at the 1.5 miles. But that doesn’t really tell the whole story because it can come down to restarts and then anybody can win, basically. I think you’ve just got to put yourself in a good position and then you’ve got to go do really well in those restarts. That’s probably what it’s going to come down to. It’s tough. Las Vegas isn’t as straight forward as we used to think it was. And then, I think the ROVAL is definitely tough because road courses are difficult to get through traffic and all those things. But I definitely look at Talladega as the most unpredictable. And at the other two you somewhat control what you do.”
REGARDING RESTARTS, WHAT IS THE KEY THERE? IS IT GETTING THE SHIFTS RIGHT AT THE START? IS IT CONTROLLING YOUR EMOTIONS? WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT MATTER AND WHAT DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’VE GOTTEN BETTER?“It’s just obviously aggression, but it’s just anticipation, obviously; trying to anticipate where the runs are going to come from. The more you watch tape and the more you kind of understand what’s happened in the past, the better prepared you are for what scenario is going to happen. But it honestly comes down to anticipation and having a good spotter that knows what runs are going to come and is preparing you for it. Tab (Boyd) and I have worked a lot on that over the past six months to a year. You’ve got to be up front at the 1.5-miles to have success. A lot of that comes from restarts and holding your track position and things like that. It’s important.”
HOW HAVE YOU AND RUDY FUGLE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER THIS YEAR? WHAT’S BEEN GOING GREAT AND WHAT DO YOU NEED TO IMPROVE ON?“Honestly, the thing with Rudy and me has just been experience. I think we’re trying to learn so much in a quick time. A lot of the teams and drivers we’re racing against have worked together for a couple of years now and that has hurt us a little bit with no practice. But I feel like we’ve kind of overcome that with really good communication. We have a lot of meetings throughout the week about set-up and what we want to do going to the race track. Although we really don’t have time to really practice it, I feel like we show up really strong. I think that’s been an adjustment. I feel like we’ve done really well in pressure situations and opportunities to win. He knows how to push my buttons and knows how to get the most out of me. As any crew chief, that’s the biggest thing is trying to get everything you can out of your driver. I feel like he’s done a really good job of knowing how to do that with me and he showed that at Bristol. We had good communication throughout the race and didn’t let the pressure get to us and make crazy decisions and had a really good race.”
YOU WERE TOP 5 IN POINTS IN THE REGULAR SEASON. DID THIS FIRST ROUND SURPRISE YOU AS HOW STRESSFUL IT TURNED OUT TO BE?“Yeah, it definitely got turned on its side with everything happened at Darlington. Darlington seems like years ago now that we’ve been through the last two weeks. Just thinking back to that race and how much we overcame, to have a flat tire and crash after that, was just devastating. We thought we had put ourselves in a good position to overcome all that. At Richmond, we just kind of laid an egg and wasn’t really that fast and that was a big bummer, too. But we overcame it at Bristol and had a really good run and set the tone for the rest of our year. It was a tough stretch for six or seven weeks of just not getting the finishes. But we’ve had the speed and I feel like now we’re going to get the finishes.”
AFTER BRISTOL, DO YOU AND RUDY NOW JUST TAKE A BREATH AND GET EVERYBODY TO RESET AND TAKE A BREATH? OR IS IT JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL AND DON’T NEED TO REMIND EVERYONE TO JUST REFOCUS?“A little bit of both. I think it was nice to have Sunday to kind of reflect and have that off-time. I know the guys worked on the car still. I think everyone kind of got a chance to breathe and reset. I don’t feel like we’ll have any issues about showing up at Vegas fresh and ready. We’ve got an extra this week to really recover and get prepared. I feel like we’re going to be ready when we get on the plane and go out there. I don’t think that will be an issue.”
WHAT’S THE MOOD IN THE ENTIRE HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS CAMP?“I think there’s a lot of strength in the individual teams and obviously, the whole company that brings cars that we’re capable of bringing to the race track. We had a difficult stretch there with the start of the Playoffs. I would say half of our guys ran well at Richmond. And we all ran well at Bristol and that was a really good sight to see because Bristol is a tough place, and it can really be hard on you. So yeah, I think we’re poised to do really good things and we’ve overcome some things and there will be a lot more as we go through the Playoffs.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO RACE AT A TRACK WITH THAT HOMETOWN CONNECTION, LIKE CHARLOTTE, IN THE PLAYOFFS?“Oh, it’s amazing. I love going to Charlotte every year to race. I always have a really warm welcome there and it’s a really important race track to me. We’d love to win there this year and I feel like I’ve got the opportunity to this year with the way we’ve been on road courses. I’m pretty excited for it. We just have to go there and perform well.”
Dominic Scelzi Salvages Sixth-Place Performance During World of Outlaws Show
Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2021) – Dominic Scelzi earned his best finish of the season during World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series competition last Saturday at the Tom Tarlton Classic hosted by Keller Auto Speedway.
Scelzi overcame a problem to start the night and he held on during late-race woes to score a sixth-place run, which marked his second top 10 in three starts with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ this season.

“I’m super happy with our speed, but disappointed with how everything played out,” he said. “It was frustrating having the speed we did and not being able to do what we thought we could with it.”
The night began with a mechanical problem that kept Scelzi from participating in hot laps.
“When we unloaded and started up the motor wasn’t running,” he said. “We changed motors and had the same issue again. That’s when we realized it had to be a fueling issue. We changed the tail tank, fuel pump and fuel system. We didn’t get to hot lap. We got one lap in qualifying and I wasn’t able to put a good lap down. We finally got it right for the heat race.”
Scelzi qualified 21st quickest, but a run from seventh to fourth place in a heat race moved him up nine positions in the A Main.
“We were good in the heat and made our way right to fourth,” he said. “First through fourth were nose to tail so I felt really good. That gave me confidence going into the feature.
“We worked our way to eighth right away in the feature. I got myself up to sixth and then the power steering went out on Lap 15. We had a line break and dump all the fluid out. I had to run the last 20 laps without power steering. It was extremely hard. I felt like I did fine until we had about 10 laps to go. At that point I struggled to hang on. The last couple of laps I fell back from fourth to sixth.”
The sixth-place finish was Scelzi’s 48th top 10 of the season.
“I honestly felt like we were a podium car,” he said. “We were fast and getting by guys the first half of the feature. We drove up through the field. If we got a bad restart and someone got by us, we’d get right back by them. I’d have loved to see how we could have finished with power steering, but it didn’t work out.”
Scelzi plans on returning to Keller Auto Speedway this Saturday for a King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event. He enters the race leading the championship standings.

Following three nights of racing to kick off the event, the division’s traditional “All-Features” night will now be on Thursday, Feb. 10 with split fields competing on Friday, Feb. 11, and the Gator Championship on Saturday, Feb. 12. The All Star Circuit of Champions will join the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds on Tuesday and Wednesday before the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars take the green flag on their season Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
DIRTcar Late Models power up the second week of racing on Monday, Feb. 14, along with a Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified hot lap night, followed Tuesday, Feb. 15, with DIRTcar Late Models and the Super DIRTcar Series. Then beginning Wednesday, Feb. 16, World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models and Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds drive the event to the checkered flag through Saturday, Feb. 19.
The grandstands at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile dirt track near Daytona Beach open nightly at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies and racing at 6:50 p.m.
While the best way to catch all the action is in the track’s massive grandstands, the racing will also air around the world on DIRTVision as part of the broadcast giant’s Fast Pass subscription.

GEORGIA ON MY MIND: Winger looks to defend home turf at Senoia
The Hampton, GA driver is searching for his third career World of Outlaws victory
SENOIA, GA – September 21, 2021 – A stout field of regional competitors is expected anytime the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models travel to the Southeast. But when the Series returns to Senoia Raceway on Saturday, Oct. 2, they’ll battle an unforgettable opponent. One who’s already conquered them in 2021. Ashton Winger.
The Hampton, GA driver won a thriller over Chase Junghans by 0.107 sec. during the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway last month and now has the chance to win in front of his home crowd.
Winger already found success at the Senoia, GA facility this season, scoring two victories. However, he knows his competitors, and the track, will be a challenge.
“It’s so technical to get around,” Winger said. “It gets as slick as [Magnolia Motor Speedway] or [East Bay Raceway Park] gets, but the shape of the racetrack makes it where the racetrack changes so much.
“From Lap 1 to Lap 40 or 50, I promise, I don’t care if you’re leading or running 20th; you’re going to have to move to every line at some point.”
October 2 is the Series’ third journey to Senoia, after stops in 2017 and 2018. Chris Madden and Brandon Sheppard each found Victory Lane, and Winger expects them to be contenders again.
“Madden always runs well here; he’s always a tough customer when they come,” Winger said. “[Sheppard’s] won here before. This is a Ricky Weiss-type racetrack. I expect Ryan Gustin to be really good, and Tyler Bruening’s kind of getting on a heater.
“I’ve raced with Madden ten times at this place, and every time I’ve raced him, it’s been for the lead.”
A win at Senoia would be Winger’s third career World of Outlaws win and ninth of 2021. Six of those victories came with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals.
Winger calls his World of Outlaws triumph at Cedar Lake in August a breath of fresh air after a tough start to the season in February.
“I was really glad to get my second [World of Outlaws] win to prove the first one wasn’t really a fluke,” Winger said. “I don’t want to say it’s a sigh of relief or anything like that, because in a way, that would be me saying we’re surprised that we’re running good and I’m not. We’re fast, we’ve been fast, for I feel like, three years now.”
The 21-year-old won his first World of Outlaws race last year and was on track for another full-time run with the Series in 2021 before the deal with his team fell through. Back behind the wheel of his family car this year, Winger has spent the season rebuilding. Not only his team but his confidence.
It’s shown with six wins on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Model tour and finishing second in points.
Winger hopes to keep his momentum from the summer going as he relishes another chance to conquer a Morton Buildings Feature worth $10,000.
Winger and The Most Powerful Late Models on the Planet will travel to Senoia Raceway on Saturday, Oct. 2, after making a stop at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC, on Friday, Oct. 1.
Pro Stock’s ‘intense atmosphere’ during playoffs relished by Troy Coughlin Jr.
| ST. LOUIS (Sept. 21) — The third national event of the six-race Countdown to the Championship takes place this weekend with the 10th annual NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis, and Troy Coughlin Jr., driver of the JEGS.com Elite Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro, couldn’t be more excited. “This is my first time in the Countdown and I can tell you that it’s a pretty intense atmosphere at the racetrack these days,” Coughlin said. “Pro Stock has always had the closest racing of any professional category and yet somehow it’s gotten even closer these last few events. It’s pretty insane and exciting, all at the same time. “It’s fun to be in the thick of things every race and when the competition gets this tight it takes everything up another level. You know everyone is making great horsepower so it comes down to which driver gets off the clutch pedal and through the gears the quickest. Mistakes are magnified and win lights mean 1,000 times more than normal.” |
![]() |
| So far in the playoffs, Coughlin has looked sharp, racing to the semifinals in Reading, Pa., and the quarterfinals in Charlotte. At both events his run to the finals was stopped by current points leader Greg Anderson, who nipped him by a miniscule .001 seconds in Reading and just .009 seconds in Charlotte. “We need to get on the right side of these super-close ones,” Coughlin said. “It’s the nature of Pro Stock to have races decided by thousandths of a second, which is pretty crazy if you think about how much goes into a run. To have two completely different teams and drivers produce a race where you’re literally an inch or two apart at the other end of the quarter-mile is hard to fathom, but it’s actually fairly common. “I do know I wouldn’t want to go into a playoff fight like this without my guys. Mark Ingersoll (crew chief), Kyle Bates, Kelly Murphy, Steven Hurley, and Eric Luzinski are the best of the best. Everyone at Elite, no matter which crew they’re on, is at a championship level. There’s a reason they’ve won so many titles.” |
![]() |
| Coughlin currently occupies the sixth spot in the standings, and is only one point behind fifth-place driver and teammate, Aaron Stanfield, and 11 points back of Dallas Glenn. Although Coughlin has three championships at the Sportsman level and has accumulated 18 victories overall, eight at the national level, he has never won under the arches in St. Louis. “It would be huge to win this one,” he said. “We’ll be halfway through the Countdown races after this weekend so a win would put us the best position possible to make a stretch run. We’ll be ready.” |

NHRA Nationals – St. Louis
Pre-Race Report
A trip to the finals and a close finish in a Countdown race moved Cruz Pedregon up two spots in the playoffs and set up the team for a strong showing this weekend at the NHRA Midwest Nationals.
“The team is doing a great job — top to bottom. We’re seeing solid, consistent runs from the tuning we’re doing on the Snap-on® Dodge® and we are really in the mix for the championship,” says Cruz. “JC (John Collins) is excited about running at Gateway again since he won it last year with his previous team.”
Cruz says the rounds are “really tough” with everyone “armed up” this time of year. With just five races to go, he says there’s lots of opportunity and he and the team are looking forward to going for a win in St. Louis.
Cruz’s car will be decked out in the Snap-on Tools Socket to Breast Cancer paint scheme for the next four races to support breast cancer awareness raising funds for The Pink Fund® in the U.S. and Kelly Shires Foundation in Canada. Both organizations help breast cancer patients in their time of need, including providing valuable information for Cruz’s sister Dora who is a cancer survivor. 2022 NMRA Ford Nationals Event Schedule
The NMRA Ford Nationals returns to action in 2022 with six (6) all-Ford national events through unique markets across the eastern United States. The national event series is the largest Ford motorsport show in the world hosting thousands of participants each year with championship street-car drag racing, True Street challenges, specialty shootouts, car shows, celebrity appearances, and much more. “It was refreshing to get back to normal in 2021 after we successfully navigated through the global pandemic in 2020, and we’re excited to reveal our 2022 event schedule. Next season is consistent with our traditional schedule with the addition of Rockingham Dragway as the new home of the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals. That’s the third new host track we’ve added to the schedule in as many years,” said Rollie Miller, General Manager and National Event Director of the NMRA Ford Nationals. The NMRA—like always—officially kicks off the season with the Spring Break Shootout, held at Bradenton Motorsports Park. The second tour stop is the legendary Rockingham Dragway, the new home of the NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals in April. Prestigious World Wide Technology Raceway, just outside of St. Louis, continues to host the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing extravaganza. A month later the traveling Ford motorsport show returns once again to the world-class facility known as Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio with the Ford Performance Nationals. Then it’s back to US 131 Motorsports Park for the NMRA/NMCA Power Festival in July followed by a break leading up to the biggest, baddest, and the most over-the-top Ford event of the year, the NMRA World Finals + Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival. This annual festival includes the culmination of championship drag racing, street car shootouts, True Street along with professional and amateur drifting, autocross extravaganza, off-road course open to pro’s and amateurs alike, and the biggest all-Ford car show on the circuit. Rad Dan Burkett–ROUND 6, Formula Drift [St. Louis, Missouri
| EVENT RECAP: Round 6 |
St. Louis proved to be a fun course now that our team has more data on this layout. Setup was dialed and RAD DAN was ready to bring it, he was impressing the judges in practice alone! The track temps were extremely high and running your quality parts on the race car were key. Top 32 opened up with a great battle by Dan and Taylor Hull, both Dan’s lead and chase runs carried him into Top 16 with Alec Robbins. This year, we were able to fine tune the supsension setup on the Supra, this has allowed Dan to be more aggressive in the chase position, SO much fun! We had the car gripped up a little more for Top 16, so Dan was ready to drive it slightly harder. With this adjustment, Dan found himself at a different spot on the track at the wrong time and his rear wheels found the rumble strip causing the car to over rotate… we were bummed to not advance into Great 8 since Dan was doing so well, but overall St. Louis was another successful round as the entire team continues to make progress and become more competitive! Next week, Formula Drift heads to the West Coast. We will be competing in Round 7 at the Street of Long Beach next weekend! |

The NASCAR Cup Series season continues next weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the South Point 400 on Sunday, September 26, at 7 p.m. ET. Live coverage can be found on NBCSN, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90. TEAM CHEVY POST-RACE NOTES AND QUOTES: KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 VALVOLINE CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Race Winner KYLE MAKES IT HAPPEN WITH A PASS ON KEVIN HARVICK. A BRISTOL WIN IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, BUT HOW DID YOU GET THAT DONE? “Yeah, that was an awesome race. It was so cool to be able to race there for the win. Obviously Harvick and Chase got together. Chase was upset. Kind of held him up. It got Harvick having to move around and use his tires up off the bottom.”
“I started to get some dive-ins working off of two, got a big run, decided to pull the trigger, slide him, squeeze him a little bit. Then he had me jacked up down the frontstretch. It was wild.”
“But had my hands full. Thanks to Valvoline, everybody that helps on this Hendrick Motorsports car. Beautiful paint scheme. Two wins with it. Thanks to Valvoline. Thanks, Mr. H. Wish you were here. So cool.”
HOW ABOUT WINNING ONE IN FRONT OF THE BRISTOL FANS?“I love this place. This is by far my favorite track. This is why. You guys are amazing, loud. We feel the energy while we’re out there racing. Thanks, everyone, for spending your hard-earned money to come watch us putting on a show. I look forward to the rest of the year.”
WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 AXALTA CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Finished 3rdYOU ARE INTO THE NEXT ROUND BY 2 POINTS. YOU HAD THE PERFORMANCE YOU NEEDED TODAY, BUT WOW, TALK ABOUT THOSE CLOSING LAPS.“Honestly, I don’t think I breathed for 100 laps. I was honestly just trying to go as hard as I could. I mean, I don’t know. I had the best seat in the house for the leaders getting together. I was just trying to make as much speed as I could. I felt like that was what our car had, and we were just trying to hold off the No. 12 (Ryan Blaney) and just drive it as hard as I could. It was a pretty awesome moment that we could pull through being 18 points out and come into this race and advance is pretty amazing.” WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET THROUGH THESE NEXT ROUNDS AND IMPROVE ON?“I think we’re going to some really good tracks. We won on a 1.5-mile earlier this year. The ROVAL, we’ve been really fast there and have had a number of poles on road courses, so I feel like we just had to get through this round. We had a really unfortunate start to it and we made up for it tonight. Thanks to Axalta, Chevrolet, and Mr. Hendrick, and everybody back at the shop. It’s pretty awesome.”
ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Finished 5th THE FIRST PART OF THE RACE DIDN’T LOOK THAT GOOD, BUT THE SECOND PART WAS REALLY GOOD. YOU ADVANCED PLUS 10. TALK ABOUT THE EVENING.“It was an interesting night, for sure. We were pretty awful at the start of the race. Greg (Ives, crew chief) threw everything, including a laptop at it, I think. I heard there was a laptop casualty there during the race, it was so bad (laughs).”
“I just started really out of the race track and it took a lot of adjusting on it to get it where we needed it; and it was obviously really fast there at the end. I’m just proud of everybody on this No. 48 team for not giving up. My mistake at Darlington kind of put us in this box; us and the No. 24 (William Byron). I’m really glad the No. 24 made it because if they wouldn’t have, that would have been on me, too.”
“I’m just appreciative to make it through this round. It’s Ally’s first time in the Playoffs and we want to get them as far as we can and try to go chase a championship. There are some good tracks coming up for us this round and I’ve just got to go do my job and not make any more mistakes and have a good rest of the Playoffs.”
ERIK JONES, NO. 43 US AIR FORCE TUSKEGEE AIRMEN CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Finished 8th“Solid day for the Air Force Chevy. Glad we could get them a top ten run there. We had some damage on the right side and the balance was just a bit tight to run further forward than we did. But proud of the effort and hope we can keep the good runs going.”
TYLER REDDICK, NO. 8 FOOD CITY/CHILDRESS VINEYARDS CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Finished 12thTYLER, TWO POINTS SHORT OF MAKING IT INTO THE ROUND OF 12. WHAT A FIGHT. DOWN A LAP AT ONE POINT. I CAN’T IMAGINE HOW FRUSTRATING IT MUST BE TO KNOW ALL YOU NEED ARE TWO MORE SPOTS AND YOU’RE IN. “Yeah, unfortunately we certainly gave up more than two spots over the course of this first round. Darlington, getting stuck down a lap at Richmond. Not just one key opportunity, but there was a number that was the difference.”
“One situation, the situation tonight, doesn’t really stick out as the one that makes it sting. It was just unfortunate getting to the Playoffs, we don’t really have the pace that we had to just point our way into the Playoffs leaderboard.”
“Missed it by two. Have the races we did. It kind of all adds up. For us to miss it by two and run the way we did isn’t a surprise.”
“Yeah, it stinks, but we still get to go race the last, I don’t know, six or seven races we have on the schedule. Good tracks for us. Our starting spot and pit stall won’t be as good, but everything else on the racetrack will be. We’ll make the most out of those races.”
YOU NEVER GAVE UP AND ALMOST STILL MADE IT IN. “Yeah, well, I mean, winners never quit. Hopefully one day the right break will come our way. We continue to learn and get better even though we didn’t make it through to the Round of 12.”
“We feel as a team we were able to pick up on some things that are going to help us when we come back here next year or go to another track, short track.”
“We’ll see where it goes from here. Yeah, we’re not racing for a championship anymore, but we still have a lot to race for with this team. Make the most with the rest of the races we have.”
AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 BASS PRO SHOPS/TRACKER OFF ROAD CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Finished 15th“Good job by everyone tonight on this Richard Childress Racing team. We fell behind a little in the middle of the race, but Justin Alexander came through clutch with a strategy to get us back on the lead lap, and we were able to climb back into the top-15 in the final stage. We were just too tight to really make anything happen. Everyone on this Bass Pro Shops / TRACKER Off Road Chevrolet team hung in there through all of the twists and turns tonight.”
KURT BUSCH, NO. 1 MONSTER ENERGY CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Finished 19th“Really disappointing effort today. That was not a championship-type effort. We missed it big time. We had bad luck last week and we have no shot at a championship this year. We have to race for pride, dignity and honor for the next few weeks. The team is shutting down and we’re eliminated early. That’s not the way we wanted this to go. Maybe we can crawl our way back up to a fifth to tenth-range in points. But tonight was not a night to miss the setup.”
CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 HOOTERS CAMARO ZL1 1LE – Finished 25thYOU DON’T FEEL YOU WERE RACED VERY WELL BY KEVIN HARVICK. “Well, it’s something he does all the time. He runs into your left side constantly at other tracks. Sometimes it does cut down your left side. Other times it doesn’t. He did it to me at Darlington a few weeks ago because he was tired of racing with me. Whether he did it on purpose, it doesn’t matter. At some point, you’ve got to draw the line. I don’t care who he is or how long he’s been doing it. I’m going to stand up for myself and my team and we’ll go on down the road.” THIS HAPPENED AT A LOT OF PLACES YOU SAID. THINGS LIKE THIS TYPICALLY HAPPEN AT BRISTOL.“I just ran my line. I’m super happy for Kyle (Larson, race winner). He’s had a heck of a year. He’s a good dude and a great race car driver. He deserves the accomplishments and deserves the success. I’m happy for him and happy for Team Hendrick. I wish I could have gotten our Hooters Chevrolet in Victory Lane, but we’ll try again next week.”

MONTEREY, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2021) – For the second consecutive weekend, Honda drivers and teams dominated qualifying today at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, sweeping the front row and claiming eight of the top 12 starting positions for Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey.
Honda drivers previously swept the top three positions in qualifying for last Sunday’s Grand Prix of Portland, with championship points leader Alex Palou going on to score his third NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory of the season.
In today’s qualifying action, Colton Herta claimed his second consecutive Laguna Seca pole, and the seventh of his Indy car career, with teammate Alexander Rossi completing an Andretti Autosport Honda sweep of the front row. Palou will start tomorrow’s penultimate race of the 2021 season from fourth for Chip Ganassi Racing, with Oliver Askew qualifying an impressive fifth in just his second race with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

Quotes
Colton Herta (Andretti Autosport Honda) Pole qualifier, third pole of 2021, seventh career Indy car pole “We have a great car, to be honest. It’s awesome to be powered by Honda. What an amazing track, I love this place. You have to drive right to 100% at this track, especially in the final [qualifying] round when you’re on used tires on a track that typically uses up tires quickly. Tire [wear] will also be critical here tomorrow, we need to learn how long we can make the tires last before the big ‘fall off’ in times takes place.”
Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) Championship points leader, qualified fourth: “It was an interesting session, I would say. We lacked a bit of pace in [the first round of qualifying], but we made it up in the fast 12 [second round]. We were really really strong, and I was looking forward to the fast six [final round qualifying]. But, unfortunately, we didn’t have the pace today to fight for pole position on the used ‘reds’ [soft compound Firestone tires]. Starting fourth tomorrow, the second row, is always good and we know we have a really strong race car. So, yeah, looking forward to it. Three [expected pit] stops, should be an exciting race, and hopefully we can overtake three guys!”
Oliver Askew (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda) Qualified fifth, tied his career-best Indy car starting position: “Fantastic qualifying today for the Hy-Vee #45 guys from Rahal Letterman Lanigan. I felt really good in the car, and the car complemented me as well. When you get it right around here, it feels really good. When you get it wrong, not so much—but today we got it right. It was a really enjoyable session and I’m looking forward to starting in the top five tomorrow. I know I have a really good pit crew, we had one of the best times on pit road in [his first race at] Portland and hopefully we can capitalize on that. Looking for a clean race tomorrow and hopefully we can move forward!”
Fast Facts
This is the sixth pole for Honda this season, and the second consecutive front-row lockout for the manufacturer.
Honda teams and drivers have won eight of 14 races to date this season, and currently holds a 95-point lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship (2,110-1,115) over rival Chevrolet with two races remaining. The company is seeking it’s 10th Manufacturers’ title, and fourth consecutive trophy.
In a strong all-round qualifying showing for the manufacturer, Honda drivers claimed eight of top 12 grid positions after the first round of INDYCAR “knockout” qualifying, with four Honda’s advancing to the “Fast Six” final round and then sweeping the front row for tomorrow’s 95-lap race.

Title contender Pato O’Ward spun in the Corkscrew on his flyer lap in the final stages of the Firestone Fast Six. As a result he will start sixth on Sunday. The best we did in practice was 20th just because we were all over the place. We didn’t really have the balance correctly and I’m happy with sixth. Fifth obviously, would have been better, but I was pushing just to try to get every ounce out of the car. We made it to the Fast Six, which seemed kind of like a long haul for us going into qualifying, but we accomplished it. So, I’m happy with the changes that we made. Now we need to make the race car go faster and see what we can do in the race” LOOKS LIKE YOU WILL LINE-UP BEHIND THE GUY YOU ARE CHASING FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN ALEX PALOU. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT AT THE START OF THIS RACE TOMORROW?“I’m a bit in the Ganassi group because I think Marcus (Ericsson) and Scott (Dixon) are in the row behind me. I guess we’ll have to see tomorrow.” JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 2 HITACHI TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 17TH: “Obviously, not the result we were looking for. We showed good pace yesterday and were on the right path this morning but we just missed in qualifying. Unfortunate as we’ve made things more difficult for ourselves. Regardless, we’re focused on doing everything we can to move forward and we’ll be ready to get to work tomorrow.” SÉBASTIEN BOURDAIS, NO. 14 ROKIT CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 21ST: “It started off pretty good yesterday. I thought the car was seemingly in the window, just needed a bit of grip and a bit less understeer. It seemed like there was potential from the work we did at the (simulator) deal. At least it correlated pretty well, the feel behind the wheel was very similar. Then we went back out this morning and picked up a massive amount of understeer which was really strange. Put the reds on and it didn’t really fix anything, so made very little changes for this afternoon because for us the car has gone fairly oversteer between cold and higher track temps and sure enough we got loose on entry and really never recovered the front grip that we had in the center of the corners so it became a very difficult car to drive. Unfortunately it’s nowhere near good enough, so yeah, very disappointed.”DALTON KELLETT, NO. 4 K-LINE INSULATORS CHEVROLET. QUALIFIED 27TH: “Not an easy session for us overall. It was obviously a scramble to recover from that hit in practice and the guys did a good job getting the car fixed up. Luckily it wasn’t too much damage and they were able to turn that car around quickly, so that was a good job by them. We tried to gamble and do reds-reds (tires) because we felt like without having the experience on reds from practice that would be a good move just to get some more time and see how those tires behave. The overall grip felt like it never came in and it was just kind of sliding around the whole time on the first set and then the second set, the same thing. Kind of loose in, quite a bit of understeer mid-off and kind of backed it off a bit to just put a lap together, but it just never really felt like the temps came up. Towards the end of the stint after the checkered going through (turn) 10, it felt like we were finally getting some load in the wheel, so maybe we could have gone a lap shorter on the first stint to do four on the second run probably would have been a better idea, but hindsight is 20/20. So we obviously have some work to do in the race but we’ve shown that we could have good race pace. Qualifying is still our crux, but we’ll have to make something happen in the race tomorrow.”

CHEVROLET RACING IN NATIONAL HOT ROD ASSOCIATION DEWALT NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS ZMAX DRAGWAY, CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA QUALIFYING RECAPSEPT. 18, 2021
Chevrolet again sweeps No. 1 qualifiers at zMAX Dragway • Brittany Force records eighth consecutive Top Fuel top qualifier• Funny Car points leader John Force earns 163rd No. 1 of career• Aaron Stanfield scores first career Pro Stock top spot
CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 18, 2021) – For the second time in four National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) events and fourth time this season, Chevrolet drivers in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock swept the No. 1 qualifier spots.
Team Chevy will aim to continue momentum on race day Sunday, Sept. 19, at the DeWalt NHRA Carolina Nationals – the second race in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship — at zMAX Dragway. Chevrolet also swept the professional car categories at the venue in May.
Brittany Force earned her eighth consecutive NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Top Fuel top qualifier honor in the Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster, extending her single-season record. Force, entering eliminations only four points out of first place, paced the field with a blistering 3.662-second pass at 331.85 mph.
She registered the same elapsed time in qualifying No. 1 in the spring race at zMAX Dragway.
“It’s incredible that this team has been able to carry that for eight races straight. That’s incredible,” said Force, who is one top qualifier off the Top Fuel consecutive record set by Gary Beck in the 1982-83 seasons. “It’s picking up bonus points and we’re stashing away those No. 1 qualifier hats, but again, we’re looking for race day tune, that’s our focus.”
Funny Car points leader John Force, driving the PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS, scored his second consecutive No. 1 qualifier at zMAX Dragway and 163rd of his illustrious career with a run of 3.860 seconds at 332.18 mph. Teammate Robert Hight was second for the second event in a row, posting a 3.878-second run mph in the Automobile Club of Southern California Camaro SS.
“It was a good way to start the weekend. We’re just trying to stay in the game, this PEAK Chevy team,” said Force, who will seek his second consecutive win at zMAX Dragway and fourth of the season in the drive to his 17th Funny Car title. “Daniel Hood, Tim Fabrisi and Joe Barlam, they give me a race car and we go right down the racetrack. I’m really excited about that. I’d like to at least be in the hunt and I’m in the hunt.”
Aaron Stanfield, a three-time winner this season in the Janac Brother’s Camaro SS, recorded his first Pro Stock No. 1 qualifier with a 6.575-second pass.
“Now is the time to be mistake-free and we’ll see what happens,” said Stanfield, the 2020 Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown champion in the Janac Brother’s Chevrolet COPO Camaro.
Reigning Pro Stock champion Erica Enders was second in the tightly bunched pack in the Melling Performance/Elite Motorsports Camaro SS, and Greg Anderson was third in the HendrickCars.comCamaro SS.
Anderson, the points leader, will aim to record his 98th career Pro Stock victory, which would pass Warren Johnson for most all time in the class and be second to John Force’s 154 wins.
FOX will telecast eliminations live at 2 p.m. ET Sunday, Sept. 19.
CHEVROLET FROM THE COCKPIT
TOP FUEL:BRITTANY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET DRAGSTER (No. 1 qualifier): “Right now, it’s gaining as many points as we can. That’s the way I look at the Countdown. It can get overwhelming; there’s a lot on the line. Right now, it’s focusing on one run at a time. The cool thing is my whole team is involved (in the streak). They’ve got us here. I’m very proud of all my guys. (Crew chief) David Grubnic wants to put the best number we can on the board every single time we run. We want to get the job done in these last six races.”
FUNNY CAR:JOHN FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, PEAK ANTIFREEZE & COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 1 qualifier): “Every qualifying will give you a few points. I just want to race with these kids. I want to beat everybody and I want to lose to everybody. A race car doesn’t know how old you are; the driving is the easy part.”
ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 2 qualifier): “That was a good run. We wanted more and we can see that there’s more out there. You know we picked up some extra qualifying points and we put a good number on the board. We’ll get after it. Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham, they’ll get us set up and then have us going rounds on race day.”
PRO STOCK:AARON STANFIELD, ELITE MOTORSPORTS, JANC BROTHER’S CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 1 qualifier): “We’ve made some really good runs and been pretty close (to qualifying No. 1) a couple of times, but it’s not an easy thing to accomplish. Our guys have been working really hard. They got me a really good hot rod and I’m just the lucky one to be behind the wheel. My first No. 1, it’s a cool feeling. I think we’re getting back on the right track where we were the last couple of races. Definitely have to bounce back (after early exit in Countdown opener) and go some rounds.”
ERICA ENDERS, ELITE MOTORSPORTS, MELLING PERFORMANCE CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 2 qualifier): “Today is by no indications of what we’re capable of. After the first qualifying session today we had to swing motors in the car, so we’ll get a tune-up for tomorrow and my guy continue to work really hard. I just have to do my job. It’s a little bit frustrating to not accumulate any baby points today, but we’ve been in far worse positions than we are right now. I’m ready to dig deep.”
GREG ANDERSON, KB RACING, HENDRICKCARS.COM CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 3 qualifier): “We left a few points on the table last night; we were a little too conservative and that cost us the pole. We still got the majority of the (qualifying) points. The bottom line is the conditions today were more like what we’re going to see tomorrow on race day. My car was fast on both runs today so that’s a good sign. I feel good about and we’re ready to race.”
KYLE KORETSKY, KB RACING, LUCAS OIL CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 4 qualifier): “That final run felt really good for the KB Lucas Oil Chevy Camaro. We struggled a little bit at the beginning of the weekend but I think we have it figured out. Greg (Anderson) and the guys have a tune-up on it. We’ll go first round (against Christian Cuadra) and see what we get, but the Lucas Oil Chevy Camaro is ready to run.”
RUDOLPH BREAKS THROUGH: Rudolph finally wins at Mohawk in the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series
Erick Rudolph outraced Series rivals Billy Dunn and Tim Fuller to win $4,000 at Mohawk Int’l Raceway
AKWESASNE, NY – Erick Rudolph, the three-time DIRTcar 358 Modified Series champion, finally broke through at Mohawk Int’l Raceway for his first Series win of 2021. Rudolph had to hold off the driver who won the first two Series races of the year Billy Dunn. Dunn finished second. Tim Fuller, Series points leader going into the race, fought his way up through the tough top half of the field to finish third.
Erick Rudolph, from Ransomville, NY, is an absolute ringer in the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series but he had the best of the best hounding him for 60 laps.
“Billy [Dunn] is one of the best here and is one of the best in 358s,” said Rudolph. “I’ve been coming here a lot of years. I’ve finished second and third here countless times. It’s awesome to finally get a win here.”
At the drop of the green flag, Can-Am Speedway promotor Ryan Bartlett shot out into the lead. Rudolph, who started third, was right there in his tire tracks. By lap 10 Bartlett, in the #93, caught up to the backend of the field. Just as Bartlett and Rudolph began managing lapped traffic, third-place Jackson Gil joined the battle at the front but on lap 13 the caution flew.
On the lap 16 restart, multiple cars jammed up in Turn 2 and the red flag was displayed due to the blocked racetrack. Once the race got back underway, the top three got into a rhythm and pulled away from the field.
But not from everyone.
At halfway, Billy Dunn reloaded and started making his moves to the front. At the same time, Ryan Bartlett was passed by Erick Rudolph as well as Jackson Gil who slotted in behind Rudolph.
By lap 35 Dunn had overtaken all challengers and made it to second with his eyes on the prize.
Concurrently, Tim Fuller started seventh and made smart moves to be there at the front when it mattered.
With nine laps remaining, Carey Terrance, in the #66X, suffered a mechanical failure and stopped on the backstretch. That would end up being the final restart and with six laps to go Dunn got alongside Rudolph in Turn 1. They drove hard side-by-side for the lead, but they never touched and Rudolph kept the advantage to win.
NEXT UP: The DIRTcar 358 Modified Series is set to shine at NAPA Super DIRT Week beginning Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Weedsport Speedway for the NAPA Super DIRT Week Kickoff. Then the Series heads to Brewerton Speedway for the all-new Hurricane Harvey 75. On Friday, it’s qualifying races at Oswego Speedway during Friday Night Lights. Then the Salute to the Troops 150 will be set for Saturday, Oct. 9 at Oswego Speedway for the $20,000-to-win DIRTcar 358 Modified Series spectacular.

Tyler Erb Goes Back-to-Back in Knoxville Prelims
| KNOXVILLE, IA (September 17, 2021) – For the second straight night, Tyler Erb won the 25-lap preliminary feature for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Knoxville Raceway. Erb took the lead on lap two from Brandon Sheppard and was able to hold him off in a 2-lap shootout, for his third career win at Knoxville. The 24-year-old Texas native’s 15th career win in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series means he will start on the outside of the front row alongside Tim McCreadie for tomorrow night’s $50,000-to-win Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by Brandt Professional Agriculture. Sheppard crossed the finish line in second followed by Tyler Bruening, Tim McCreadie, and Mike Marlar. “You never want to see a caution like that,” said Erb who won his sixth Lucas Oil feature of the season. “We ran good enough last night that I didn’t really want to commit myself to running the cushion tonight. I just tried to practice in the heat running the bottom. I could tell somebody was getting a good run on the outside. I figured it was Sheppy. As long as I stayed to the inside getting into three, I didn’t think anyone could ever pass me the way I could drive in and go across. I am thrilled, this is awesome. I am pumped to win here.” Sheppard started from the pole but fell back to third as both Erb and Bruening went around him on the second lap. Sheppard trailed Bruening until a lap 17 restart when Sheppard went by Bruening for the runner-up spot. Sheppard tried to track down Erb; a caution flag with two laps to go was just the chance that Sheppard was waiting on. On the green-white-checker Erb was too strong, going on for the victory. “Congratulations to Tyler and his whole team, they deserve it for sure. They have been doing a heck of a job this year. My guys did a heck of a job putting that thing back together during the heat race. It was definitely a wild night for us. I want to thank everybody who put that thing back together. It meant a lot to me to get back out there and get the heat win. It gave us a better starting spot than we would have had.” Bruening, last year’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series runner-up in the Eibach Springs Rookie-of-the-Year chase, continues his impressive 2021 season coming home in third on Friday Night. “I heard Brandon [Sheppard] say he was good for a couple of laps after those restarts. I felt the same way. I think Tyler was just a little bit better than everybody tonight. He deserved to win. I think we will have something for them in the 100-lapper tomorrow night, hopefully we are up front.” The winner’s Best Performance Motorsports, Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by M&W Transport, Roberts Bee Company, Posi Flow, First Class Septic, Bazell Race fuels, Go Lithium, Lucas Oil Products, KBC Graphics, Keyser Manufacturing, and Midwest Sheet Metal. | “Our Crosley Brands Chevrolet was extremely fast tonight at Bristol Motor Speedway. My Richard Childress Racing guys brought such a good piece to the track and I couldn’t be prouder. To finish inside the top-10 in the regular season finale is a good way to build momentum heading into the NASCAR Playoffs next week. To start the race, our Camaro was tight center off, but when we were on a long run, it had so much speed. My crew chief, Andy Street, barely had to adjust on the balance all night, which is the sign of a good handling car. Racing at Bristol is a battle and there was a lot of beating and banging out there. I wish we didn’t tear up our car after the checkered, but there was nowhere for me to go at that point. We are now looking forward to Las Vegas.” -Myatt Snider |
