Tyler Erb Earns Biggest Career Win in I-80 Nationals Domination

Greenwood, NE (July 22, 2021) – Tyler Erb remains red-hot as the 24-year-old Texas native scored the biggest win of his racing career on Thursday Night at I-80 Speedway. Leading all 53 laps, Erb picked up $30,000 in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event. Erb’s had a dominating performance in the caution-free race with a margin of victory of 5.5 seconds over Hudson O’Neal. Brandon Overton came home in third with Spencer Hughes and Ricky Thornton Jr. rounding out the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the fourth time in 2021, Erb was congratulated by his crew chief Randall Edwards and his race team. “Going caution-free helps. Once you get in the rhythm there, you just try to keep going the same speed you are going, and you can tell when you mess up. I got to racing with lapped cars and I think my lead closed a little bit. This is awesome, this is the biggest win of my career, so I am pumped.” O’Neal, who ran second to Overton on Tuesday Night came home in second. “I didn’t know how close I could get to him [Erb] as far out he was. I knew traffic was going to play a big deal. Whenever I got by Spencer [Hughes] for second I started to get a little closer and then I caught lapped traffic just like he was in. We had a great night and it’s been a great week so far; I am happy to get a couple of more nights to run for some great money.” Tuesday Night’s winner, Overton, earned a podium finish with his third place showing. “We are all on the same tires here. So, we have no excuses there. We just got better and better as the race went on. With this crowd it’s a good night for us. We still have two more days left so we are just going to keep on working on it and we’ll get them.”  The winner’s Eric and Kelly Brock Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by M&W Transport, Roberts Bee Company, First Class Septic, Posi Flow, Midwest Sheet Metal, Bazell Race Fuels, Go Lithium, Keyser Manufacturing, and KBC Graphics. Completing the top ten were Ricky Weiss, Stormy Scott, Jimmy Owens, Jonathan Davenport, and Shane Clanton.

SUMMER OF FUN: Ashton Winger learning to have fun again on ‘Hell Tour’

The young star is finding his confidence again on the Summer Nationals tour, one of the hardest things he said he’s ever done
SPRINGFIELD, MO – July 22, 2021 – After claiming the 2020 World of Outlaws Morton Building Late Model Rookie of the Year title, Ashton Winger went on a Hell tour before joining the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Model “Hell Tour.”His ride evaporated on him in December, leaving him and his family to scrape together what they could to attempt a return in 2021. In the first two months of the World of Outlaws season at Volusia Speedway Park, he lost two engines and only got to run one of four events during DIRTcar Nationals, resulting in a 27th-place finish. The poor fortunes made backing up his Rookie of the Year run unfeasible. However, a chance at a full-time run on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour – a 30-race schedule compact in a three-month period – materialized in the following months. And since joining this “Hell Tour,” Winger has collected three wins, placed himself third in overall points and, most importantly, found himself smiling again.“The main thing that I’ve learned a ton is just keep having fun,” Winger said. “This stuff is so stressful and for me, this is how I make a living. Staying having fun is hard. But I find we typically run way better and I sleep way better when I’m having fun.“It’s been fun. It’s been awesome. I didn’t get a full shot at the Outlaws (with COVID canceling a quarter of the season), so it wasn’t the full experience. But this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Whether you’re mad or whether you win, whatever, you have to forget about it. Tomorrow is a new day. And frankly, at the end of the day, no one really cares. You know what I’m saying?”There were still lessons for the World of Outlaws winner to learn at the beginning of the tour. It wasn’t until they found time to adjust the car, rather than repairing it, that he started to find himself in the top-five.“Honestly, it’s me not driving it into the fence and stuff like that,” Winger said. “There are little things happening. It’s a combination of stuff. Like at Circle City (Raceway), I felt like there was an opportunity for me to run second when Tanner (English) and Spencer (Hughes) got side by side. But I don’t know, I would’ve had to have done something pretty dumb to get to them. I felt like I could run to them, but I couldn’t really pass them. That’s when people start to do dumb stuff.“I just rode and fell back to sixth. But the body isn’t beat off this thing and we’re on to tomorrow. We’re not spending all day fixing things. We can solve the problem and keep getting better… I feel like I’ve gotten better behind the seat. But the main thing is I’ve gotten better at not tearing stuff up. I can name three or four instances in the first week when I did tear some stuff up. I probably would’ve been alright if I didn’t (make the move I did). There’s not a big difference between sixth and eighth. It just took me a minute.”Along with honing his driving skills, he admitted it took time for his team, consisting of his dad, cousin and himself, to find chemistry.“It’s finally starting to get good,” Winger said. “I’m not going to lie; it was rough in the beginning. We’ve really been playing catch-up all year. This Summer Nationals thing is the first time we’ve been prepared. And I don’t think we’re as prepared as we need to be, but we’re as prepared as we can be. So, we decided to come do this deal and you find what you need along the way. It is getting better. We’re all getting along. We’re all meshing. We’re all family.“What a lot of people take for granted is, unless something comes up, I’m probably not going home until Sept. 1. We’ve been living in this truck since June. That truck can only hold so much air. I told someone on the off days it’s good because we can all kind of get away from each other a little bit.  Anybody in racing knows what I’m talking about.”The merging of those elements has resulted in more top-five finishes, his first Summer Nationals wins at Knox County Fair Raceway – holding off currently points leader Bobby Pierce for the victory – and two straight wins at Thunderbird Raceway and Oakshade Raceway. He’s now third in points – 228 points behind Pierce – with 11 races remaining.“Probably would help a little bit if the #32 car (of Pierce) would slow down a little bit,” Winger said with a chuckle. To keep pace with Pierce and continue his winning streak, Winger said qualifying well is the key to both. Easy passes don’t exist on the Summer Nationals tour with the level of competition it produces, he added. If you don’t position yourself to start upfront, it’s likely you won’t make it there by the end of the Feature. The furthest back a winner has started this season is sixth at Fairbury for Shannon Babb. Overall, the average starting position for a winner this season in the first 19 races is second. For Winger’s three wins he started second, first and third, respectively.“Like you hear all the time, catching guys and passing them is two different things,” Winger said. “It is way different with this. You’re racing the racetrack and you’re racing the guys, air, everything. And we’re just past halfway in this deal and you don’t want to make any enemies. Everybody is so close. Like my dad always says, it’s way easier to pass in the pits than it is on the racetrack. It’s just Qualifying. It’s rare for a guy to start on the pole and run fifth. But it is more rare for a guy to start ninth and win. That’s really the main thing.”No matter how the Summer Nationals tour ends for him, he’s already accomplished what he needed to in his path to rebuilding a career with the World of Outlaws. He’s learned what it takes to run a grueling schedule. He’s learned what it takes to run for a points title against stiff competition. He’s learned how to beat that competition. But most importantly, he’s learned how to have fun again. The DIRTcar Summer Nationals Late Model tour continues for its sixth week of racing on Thursday, July 22, at Springfield Raceway, followed by Tri-City Speedway (July 23), Clarksville Speedway (July 24) and Richmond Raceway (July 25). CLICK HERE for the full schedule. If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all of the Summer Nationals action live on DIRTVision with the annual PLATINUM FAST PASS.

POINTS LEAD STILL IN SIGHT FOR JOHN FORCE AND PEAK / BLUEDEF ATHEY HEAD TO SONOMA RACEWAY

SONOMA, Calif. (July 21, 2021) – Holding steady at No. 2 in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series points standings, John Force and the PEAK / BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS team know that a win at this weekend’s NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway could push them to the top of the class.
Force and his Daniel Hood and Tim Fabrisi led PEAK / BlueDEF team’s steady climb began with a quarterfinal finish at the season opening Gatornationals. At the first four-wide event of 2021 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Force would qualify No. 2 and at the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, Force and his PEAK / BlueDEF team would make their 257th final round appearance. Force earned his 161st No. 1 qualifying position before continuing his dominance into race day at the NHRA Four Wide-Nationals at zMAX Dragway and coming out with his 152nd national event victory. Force then tallied his second win of the season, 153rd of his career at the NHRA New England Nationals. At the most recent events in Norwalk, Ohio and Denver, Force had quarterfinal finishes.
“We survived the mountain. Dodged a bullet, didn’t lose any ground in the points standings. I’ve enjoyed the season so far. My team, Danny Hood, Tim Fabrisi, Joe Barlam, they’re really working with me,” Force said. “I have to work hard to keep up, keep up with this PEAK Chevy and keep up with the competition, but I’m having a good time. Enjoying being with my team and really competing.”
A win is not out of reach for Force who is the all-time leader in race wins with eight at Sonoma Raceway, the most recent in 2016. Force also has eight No. 1 qualifiers at the facility. The last two years NHRA has contested the Sonoma Nationals, Force has made it to the semifinals and for the past seven years the 16-time Funny Car world champion has qualified within the top 10.
“We get to keep things going this weekend. The Western Swing is something special, three races in a row all on the West Coast,” Force said. “The teams stay out on the road, it can be a long three weeks but hopefully we come out of it with a couple wins and the points lead. That’s what we’re out here for.”
Qualifying at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway begins Friday, July 23 at 8:05 p.m. and continues Saturday with sessions at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Eliminations will start Sunday at 11 a.m. For television coverage of qualifying, tune into FOX Sports 1 (FS1) Saturday at 2 p.m. ET and Sunday at 2 p.m. To catch the finals on television, watch FS1 at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

ROBERT HIGHT AND AUTO CLUB LOOK TO CONTINUE SUCCESS AT SONOMA RACEWAY

SONOMA, Calif. (July 21, 2021) – For three consecutive years Robert Hight and the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS have dominated Sonoma Raceway. Heading into the NHRA Sonoma Nationals July 23-25, Hight will be looking for more of that dominating performance to give him a boost in the points standings.
With the Sonoma Nationals not being contested in 2020, Hight is the two-time and reigning event winner. He has a total of three wins at the property, 2008, 2018, 2019, as well as three No. 1 qualifiers, 2006, 2017 and 2019. In 2017, Hight earned the No. 1 qualifying position when he handled the Auto Club Camaro to a NHRA national record speed of 339.87 mph and track record elapsed time of 3.807-seconds.
“Sonoma is a home race for me. I’m from Alturas, Ca., not too far from there and have been to every national event, first as a fan, then as a crew guy and now as a driver. Sonoma Raceway is special to me in that way. It’s also special because this is where this Auto Club team set the national speed record. I’ve also had a couple No. 1 qualifiers and won the last two times we’ve raced here.”
Currently sitting sixth in points, Hight and the Auto Club team have had one win this season at the NHRA Springnationals in Houston. It was the 52nd victory of Hight’s career which ties him with Top Fuel pilot Joe Amato for 12th on the all-time win list. Hight followed up the victory with a runner-up finish to team owner John Force at the New England Nationals. The Auto Club team started the 2021 NHRA Camping World Series season without skipping a beat coming in runner-up at the Gatornationals and in Las Vegas, the first four-wide event of the season, they were quickest each of the qualifying rounds and bettered themselves with low ET of the event during the first round of eliminations. At the most recent event in Denver, Hight had an early exit thanks to a first round match-up with teammate John Force.
“I’m feeling good coming into the weekend. I really like the back-to-back races. You start to get into a rhythm, you can quickly move on from a bad weekend, you can ride out momentum and make some moves in the points,” Hight said. “Hoping we repeat history here this weekend and get this Auto Club Chevy in the winner’s circle.”
To catch the finals on television, watch FS1 at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

BRITTANY FORCE AND FLAV-R-PAC CHASE VICTORY AT NHRA SONOMA NATIONALS

SONOMA, Calif. (July 21, 2021) – Brittany Force and the Flav-R-Pac dragster team head to Sonoma Raceway for the Sonoma NHRA Nationals July 23-25 hungrier than ever for their first win of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season.
Force and the Flav-R-Pac Monster Energy team most recently set a track elapsed time record during qualifying at the Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver. The performance earned them the 21st No. 1 of Force’s career and first at Bandimere Speedway, the 18th different track she holds a track record at. All this coming off a track record and their second runner-up finish of the season, 25th of Force’s career, at the event in Norwalk, Ohio.
Led by crew chiefs David Grubnic and Mac Savage, Force and her Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team have had three No. 1 qualifying positions in the 2021 season, the first two coming at four-wide events at Charlotte and Las Vegas. Each were with John Force Racing teammates, Robert Hight in Vegas and her father, John Force, in Charlotte. At the Charlotte event, Force also set both ends of the zMAX Dragway track record and had her first runner-up finish.
“Mile-High Nationals was a tough weekend for us, close racing, great car, track record, just got beat on Sunday. That weekend is not slowing us down, though,” Force said. “We get to leave that tough weekend behind us and jump right into Sonoma. We’ll be looking for a long weekend and a winners circle for the Flav-R-Pac team.”
Sonoma Raceway is one of the tracks where Force is chasing her first win. The 2017 Top Fuel world champion earned a No. 1 qualifier in 2014 and raced to a semifinal finish in 2017. In the past four years, Force has qualified within the top eight and has captured the first-round win.
“Heading straight to Sonoma, race number two in this three-in-a-row Western Swing. I like getting back into the seat with a short turnaround time,” said Forde. “As a driver, it keeps me mentally in the game and focused. I’m feeling good about this weekend. Our car has been hitting it’s marks, David Grubnic, Mac Savage and all the Flav-R-Pac guys have worked hard, and a win is coming.”
To catch the finals on television, watch FS1 at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

FORCES REACH QUARTERFINALS AT MILE-HIGH NHRA NATIONALS

MORRISON, Colo. (July 18, 2021) – Brittany Force and the Monster Energy dragster and John Force and the PEAK / BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car each made quarterfinal appearances at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals Sunday at Bandimere Speedway. Robert Hight and the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevy had a first round exit at the hands of John Force.
After setting the track elapsed time record with their No. 1 qualifying pass on Saturday night, Brittany Force and the Monster Energy team earned a bye run in the first round of eliminations. The David Grubnic and Mac Savage led team continued their stellar performance with a 3.805-second pass at 327.74 mph on a hot racetrack. In the second round, Force lined up against Clay Millican who had also had a strong performance in the first round and earned lane choice over the Monster team. The 2017 world champion had the better reaction time on the starting line but it her dragster spun the tires down track slowing to 3.819-seconds at 311.99 mph that was narrowly beat by Millican’s 3.815 at 316.30.
“Leaving Mile-High Nationals in third and on a high note! This Monster Energy team picked up another No. 1 qualifier, a track record and six qualifying bonus points. We hit our marks, our numbers. The team did their job, I did my job, and the car did exactly what we wanted it to do, we just got beat,” Force said. “It was a great drag race for the fans. This weekend is not slowing us down. It’s only pushing us to the edge of wanting it more.”
John Force and the PEAK / BlueDEF Chevy team came into eliminations in the No. 5 qualifying position to face No. 10 qualifier Robert Hight and the Auto Club Camaro. Force would run 4.042-seconds at 321.96 mph while Hight would smoke the tires early and shut off for only 9.188-seconds at 85.71 mph.
“Little bit of a rocky weekend for the Auto Club team. We’re used to getting after it and we just missed it a couple times this weekend,” Hight said. “Luckily, we are right on to the next race, and we can turn things around. Sonoma has been good to this team in the past, hopefully that’s the case this year too.”
In the second round of eliminations, after an extended delay for oil on the track, Force would match-up with long-time competitor Ron Capps for the 107th time in their careers, the second most meetings between two drivers in NHRA history. The odds were in Capps’ favor as Force loses traction mid track and has to shut off for a 4.376-second run at 226.47 mph. Capps would go 4.039 at 312.42.
“The mountain is always a struggle for any team coming up here with the altitude. But this PEAK / BlueDEF team survived it. Only went a couple rounds but still good,” Force said. “Now we go down to Sonoma and we’ll see how that goes. I’m happy with this team, young team, to me at least. They’re really good, really coming around with Daniel Hood and Tim Fabrisi and Joe Barlam. I’m really enjoying being with these guys.”
The Western Swing continues next weekend when the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series heads to Sonoma Raceway for the Sonoma NHRA Nationals July 23-25.

BRITTANY FORCE TAKES MONSTER ENERGY TONO. 1 QUALIFYING POSITION AT MILE-HIGH NHRA NATIONALS

MORRISON, Colo. (July 17, 2021) – Brittany Force and the Monster Energy dragster team rocketed to the No. 1 qualifying position Saturday night of the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. John Force and the PEAK / BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS team landed No. 5 and Robert Hight and the Automobile Club of Southern California Camaro are No. 10.
To start the day off, Brittany Force and her Monster Energy team earned three bonus points when they ran quickest of the second qualifying session at 3.899-seconds at 320.66 mph. The solid run moved them temporarily into the No. 2 spot. Coming into the final qualifying session under the lights, Force and her David Grubnic and Mac Savage tuned dragster ran a track record 3.717-second pass at 326.00 mph to take the No. 1 position.
This is Force’s first top qualifying spot at the Mile High Nationals and the 21st of her career. Bandimere Speedway is the 18th different track at which Force has qualified No. 1 and it is the ninth track where she holds the elapsed time record. The killer run earns Force the fourth bye run of her career in the first round of eliminations.
“That run felt pretty outstanding. When it left the starting line, it felt like a rocket. I knew it was on a good run if it could hold on and it did. Grubby said he was going to push it like he always does and he definitely did. I have to say thank you to my Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac guys. John Force Racing, we had to take a step back in 2020 and every single one of the guys on my team returned. I think that says so much about their character and their loyalty to this team. I love every single one of those guys,” said Force who earned a total of six bonus points in qualifying. “The fans today were great, sticking it out through the rain. Seeing the stands packed like they were tonight, there’s nothing more motivating than that. Really appreciate the fans, excited to be here and just glad to be back in Denver.”
The PEAK / BlueDEF Camaro of John Force also made serious improvement in the second qualifying session running 4.014-seconds at 320.74 mph to jump six spots into the No. 4 spot. The PEAK BlueDEF Chevy ran into trouble in the third session and had to shut off early. Force would land in the No. 5 spot to take on Robert Hight in the first round.
“Well, we got in the show, and I think we’re ready for tomorrow. Not great that we’ll be running against Robert in the first round, but it happens. This PEAK team has worked hard, I’ve had to work hard. We’re going to keep it going,” Force said. “It was a busy day in our pits, entertaining in our hospitality again. Loved having all our sponsors out there, Baldwin Filters, PEAK, Flav-R-Pac, Gates, we had fun.”
Staying on trend, Robert Hight and the Auto Club Chevy team also improved in their second qualifying run with a 4.097-second pass at 310.70 mph. Like the PEAK Funny Car, the Auto Club Chevy also had to shut off early in the final qualifying run and had Hight ending up in the No. 10 spot.
“We wanted that run. Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham, they were going after it. Not worried about it. Tomorrow will be completely different conditions so everyone will be on even playing ground,” Hight said. “This Auto Club team does well under pressure, so we’ll see how it goes.”
This will Force and Hight’s 56th career meeting, 15th in the first round. They have split the 14 previous first-round meeting with Hight winning the two most recent. At Bandimere Speedway, they’ve opposed each other three times with Hight winning each time – first round in 2009, and final rounds in 2010 and 2014.
Eliminations at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway are set to begin Sunday at 11 a.m. Television coverage will be on FOX Sport 1 (FS1) with qualifying action continuing Sunday at 3 p.m. ET and eliminations airing at 4 p.m. ET.

JOHN FORCE RACING LOOKING FORWARD TO SATURDAY QUALIFYING AT MILE-HIGH NHRA NATIONALS

MORRISON, Colo. (July 16, 2021) – The John Force Racing teams were met with challenging conditions as they made their much-anticipated return to Bandimere Speedway for the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals. The track difficulties weren’t reserved for just the JFR hot rods, the troubles worked in Brittany Force and the Monster Energy dragster team’s favor landing in the No. 5 spot. John Force and the PEAK / BlueDEF PLATINUM Chevrolet Camaro SS coasted to the No. 11 spot while Robert Hight and the Automobile Club of Southern California Camaro will work their way up from No. 12.
Brittany Force’s Monster Energy team were looking for too much from the mountain and overpowered the track for a 5.955-second pass at 106.16 mph. Only one dragster made a full pass down Bandimere Speedway allowing Force to land as the provisional No. 5 qualifier.
“I’m glad to be here in Denver. Unfortunately, that first run was a little disappointing. We pushed the car a little too hard and it chattered and went into tire smoke,” Force said. “We have two more runs tomorrow so I’m confident in this Monster Energy / Flav-R-Pac team. We’ll figure it out and be ready for race day.”
John Force and his PEAK / BlueDEF team ran into trouble and had to shut off at the 100-foot mark to cross the finish line with a 8.131-second pass at only 86.69 mph, ending the night in the No. 11 position.
“We’ve got two more tomorrow, we’ll be fine. This PEAK Chevrolet with Danny Hood, Tim Fabrisi, I’m not worried,” Force said. “Love coming here to Bandimere Speedway. We’ve got a lot of sponsors out this weekend. Gates, Cornwell Tools, PEAK, Flav-R-Pac, really appreciate them coming out and letting us entertain them. We’ll put on a better show tomorrow.”
Back in his Auto Club livery, Robert Hight’s Chevy didn’t make it past the starting line, going up in smoke at the hit. The three-time world champion eventually crossed the finish line at 15.372-seconds and 68.07 mph.
“We just missed it. We were too aggressive and the track wasn’t there,” Hight said. “Not the type of run we want to make up here at Bandimere Speedway with all the fans waiting for header flames but luckily, we get to try again tomorrow. Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham will have this Auto Club Chevy dialed in.”
Qualifying at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway will continue Saturday at 5:15 and 8:15 p.m. Eliminations are set to begin Sunday at 11 a.m. Television coverage will be on FOX Sport 1 (FS1) with qualifying coverage Saturday at 2 p.m. ET and Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. Eliminations’ TV coverage will air Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.

Sheppard hopes to repeat at Prairie Dirt Classic

The New Berlin, IL driver won with a last lap pass in 2019FAIRBURY, IL– JULY 22, 2021 – Climbing a mountain is never easy, even if it’s a peak you’ve reached twice before in your own backyard.Three-time and defending World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series champion Brandon Sheppard will embark on that journey again, July 30-31, for his third Prairie Dirt Classic win at Fairbury Speedway – two hours from his hometown of New Berlin, IL. The highly anticipated event comes as the Rocket1 racing team starts to hit its stride with the World of Outlaws. Sheppard has won two of the last four Features and is tied for the most wins in 2021 with Chris Madden (4).

The Illinois driver is eager to return to the 1/4 mile-track that’s circled on his team’s schedule every year. “[The Prairie Dirt Classic] is always one that’s on our bucket list to win,” Sheppard said. “It’s one of my favorite tracks we go to. It’s always really racy and we always seem to run really good there.  “We’re really excited, and the team is excited. We’ve been running really good lately, so hopefully we get a little momentum built up going into it.” The 2019 Prairie Dirt Classic had an exceptional finish when Sheppard pulled a slide-job on Bobby Pierce in the final corner to win the crown jewel for the second time.
It’s a moment he remembers fondly, knowing everything had to go his way to pull off the final step in his climb to the thrilling victory.  “The race was coming to a close, and I knew I had to get up on the wheel if I was going to be able to do anything. I had to be right on them at the end,” Sheppard said. “I started sailing it in on the top and [Pierce] was starting to make a few mistakes, and we were able to get close enough to him to slide him and waited until the last second and pulled it. “I kind of figured in my head that he was going to turn underneath me and beat me back to the flag stand, but he got tight up there, and we ended up making some contact, and we ended up coming out on top of it.” The Prairie Dirt Classic has a unique format compared to other crown jewel events. Four 25-lap showdowns help set the lineups for Saturday’s 100-lap, $50,000-to-win Morton Buildings Feature.  It’s a format Sheppard stated helps his team get more knowledge on how they should fine-tune their Rocket Chassis.  “I like the format that way just so we can get a good idea of what it’s going to be like on a little bit longer run,” Sheppard said. “We can really get our car dialed in for Saturday that way.  It’s something different than everywhere else we go, and it makes it exciting.” If Sheppard repeats as Prairie Dirt Classic Champion, he’ll climb another rung on the ladder toward World of Outlaws history.  One more win will tie him with Darrell Lanigan for second all-time (74) and puts him four wins away from catching Josh Richards at the top of the list (78).  The “Rocket Shepp” has more top fives (20) and top-10s (25) than any other driver. With that, he currently leads Madden by 88 points in the standings. If the New Berlin, IL driver can win the Prairie Dirt Classic in his backyard for the third time, he’ll be the third driver to win back-to-back events, joining Billy Moyer and Bob Pierce as the only drivers to reach that peak.  If you can’t make it to the track, watch all the action live on DIRTVision with the annual Platinum FAST PASS subscription for $299/year or the monthly FAST PASS subscription for $39/month.

F4 U.S. Returns to Formula 1® United States Grand Prix

F4 U.S. reschedules double-header finale for FORMULA 1 ARAMCO UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX 2021 at Circuit of The Americas

AUSTIN, TEXAS (22 July 2021)- Parella Motorsports Holdings announced today that Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda will join Formula 1® for the FORMULA 1 ARAMCO UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX 2021 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, October 22-24.

F4 U.S. was previously scheduled to end its season in November as part of the Austin SpeedTour event at CoTA. The FORMULA 1 ARAMCO UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX 2021 will now serve as the two-round championship finale for F4 U.S. competitors.

The F4 U.S. schedule will include one practice, one qualifying session and two races.

“The addition of the F4 U.S. Championship to the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix weekend is always exciting for the F4 championship and it signifies our place as one of the primary destinations for young drivers,” said PMH CEO Tony Parella. “F4 U.S. continues to exceed expectations with large fields of deeply talented drivers. We are excited to showcase our drivers in front of the top motorsport professionals from around the world.”

Long-time championship partner Honda Performance Development will sponsor the double-header event for F4 U.S.

“Honda is proud to showcase technology across multiple levels of racing, with its Formula 1 hybrid powertrain on the same racetrack as its F4 U.S. Civic Type R derived powertrain,” said HPD President David Salters. “HPD is thrilled to power the dreams of young drivers on the same track as their F1 heroes. We embrace their challenging spirit – it is the same challenging spirit that inspires HPD engineers to work diligently on F4, FRA, Civic Touring Cars, HPD Ridgeline and the new IndyCar biofueled hybrid for 2023.”

F4 U.S. has been invited to the prestigious event since 2017, creating a major boost and excitement for the FIA supported United States’ junior open-wheel series.

Smashing the F4 worldwide single-event entry record, F4 U.S. nearly maxed out the grid in 2019 with 38 drivers lining up for the F1-style standing start in front of a sold-out crowd.  The huge showing saw the F4 event become the highest attended in history.

“After a challenging 2020, which included the loss of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, it is fantastic to see the announcement of the return of the Formula 1 Aramco United States Grand Prix with F4 U.S.,” said Ligier Automotive CEO Max Crawford. “What an opportunity in 2021 to break our previous 38-car grid record and for our teams and drivers to participate at this Formula 1 premier event.”

The full Honda-powered Ligier JS F4 field will be equipped with proven Hankook tires.

“We are very pleased to see the F4 United States Championship joining the FORMULA 1 ARAMCO UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX at Circuit of The Americas,” said President of Hankook Motorsport Danny von Dongen. “Hankook Tire has been a long-time supporter of formula racing around the globe, and we are proud to have F4 U.S. representing our brand on the world stage again this year. Hankook remains committed to supporting the next generation of racers and looks forward to partnering with F4 at CoTA again.”

The F4 U.S. championship winner will receive a scholarship to enter Formula Regional Americas Championship Powered by Honda for the 2022 season and the top seven drivers will earn Super License Points to aid in their ascension through the FIA motorsport ladder.

FR Americas will still end its season at CoTA as part of the Austin SpeedTour November 5-7.

CHEVROLET AT SONOMA

What: NHRA Sonoma NationalsWhen: Friday, July 23-Sunday, July 25Where: Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CaliforniaTV: FS1 will telecast eliminations live at 4 p.m. ET July 25                                                                                    Team Chevy powers into Sonoma Raceway for second leg of Western Swing
Robert Hight in Funny Car, Greg Anderson in Pro Stock are defending winners
DETROIT (July 22, 2021) – Two years ago in Victory Circle at Sonoma Raceway, Robert Hight and Greg Anderson congratulated each other for their respective milestone wins.
Hight, the No. 1 qualifier in the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS, swept the elimination rounds to become the third Funny Car driver in National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) history to post 50 career wins. Anderson won his second consecutive Pro Stock race of the Western Swing and 93rd of his career in the KB Racing Camaro SS.
Both drivers will aim to reach other milestones this weekend in the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at the scenic venue in Northern California. The event, which was not held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, serves as the challenging central point of the Western Swing. Pro Stock racers rejoin the schedule after a three-week break.
Anderson, a two-time winner this season, seeks to tie Warren Johnson’s 97 career victories, which stands as the most in Pro Stock and second behind John Force’s NHRA-record 153. Hight is tied with Joe Amato for 12th on the all-time NHRA list with 52 wins.
“It seems like an eternity since we’ve raced,” said Anderson, who joined KB Racing teammates in testing last week at Darlington Dragway in South Carolina. “I’m itching to get back in the car.”
Anderson, the No. 1 qualifier in six of the seven Pro Stock races in his HendrickCars.com Camaro SS, advanced to the final round in each of the past two races but “couldn’t close the deal” to tie the win record of his mentor.
“I know it’s coming, so the only pressure I have is the pressure I put on myself. I have confidence in my team, the car and even my driving,” said Anderson, a six-time winner at Sonoma. “All the arrows are pointing up.”
The smooth Sonoma Raceway surface, mild ambient temperature with low humidity and running at sea level are ingredients and inducements for record-setting runs. On July 29, 2017, Hight set the NHRA national Funny Car speed record at 339.87 mph at the track.
“I’m feeling good coming into the weekend. I really like the back-to-back races. You start to get into a rhythm, you can quickly move on from a bad weekend, you can ride out momentum and make some moves in the points. Hoping we repeat history here this weekend and get this Auto Club Chevy in the winner’s circle,” said Hight, who has won the past two Funny Car races at the facility that has seen its share of memorable moments since hosting its first NHRA national event on July 31, 1988.
In 1990, Force claimed the first of eight Funny Car wins in Sonoma (the most of any NHRA racer). Fourteen years later, Courtney Force became the winningest female driver in Funny Car history after defeating her father.John Force, who sits second in the Funny Car standings, is taking aim at his record-extending 17th NHRA championship.
“We survived the mountain. Dodged a bullet, didn’t lose any ground in the points standings,” said Force, who has two wins and a runner-up finish in eight races. “I have to work hard to keep up, keep up with this PEAK Chevy and keep up with the competition, but I’m having a good time. Enjoying being with my team and really competing.”
Brittany Force, coming off her third Top Fuel No. 1 qualifier honor of the season in the Flav-R-Pac Chevrolet dragster, is aiming for her first win at Sonoma Raceway.
FS1 will telecast eliminations live at 4 p.m. ET Sunday, July 25.
CHEVROLET FROM THE COCKPIT
TOP FUEL:
BRITTANY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, FLAV-R-PAC CHEVROLET DRAGSTER (Three-time No. 1 qualifier; runner-up in Charlotte and Norwalk; No. 1 qualifier in 2014 at track): “Heading straight to Sonoma, race number two in this three-in-a-row Western Swing. I like getting back into the seat with a short turnaround time. As a driver, it keeps me mentally in the game and focused. I’m feeling good about this weekend. Our car has been hitting it’s marks, David Grubnic, Mac Savage and all the Flav-R-Pac guys have worked hard, and a win is coming.”
FUNNY CAR:
JOHN FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, PEAK/BLUEDEF PLATINUM CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (two-time winner this season; No. 1 qualifier in Charlotte four-wide; eight-time winner at track): “We get to keep things going this weekend. The Western Swing is something special, three races in a row all on the West Coast. The teams stay out on the road, it can be a long three weeks but hopefully we come out of it with a couple wins and the points lead. That’s what we’re out here for.”
ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (runner-up in two races, winner at Houston; No. 1 qualifier in Las Vegas four-wide; three-time winner at track): “Sonoma is a home race for me. I’m from Alturas, California, not too far from there and have been to every national event, first as a fan, then as a crew guy and now as a driver. Sonoma Raceway is special to me in that way. It’s also special because this is where this Auto Club team set the national speed record. I’ve also had a couple No. 1 qualifiers and won the last two times we’ve raced here.”
PRO STOCK:
GREG ANDERSON, KB RACING, HENDRICKCARS.COM CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (two-time winner this season; No. 1 qualifier in six races; points leader; six-time winner at track): “I know (record-tying win No. 97 is) coming, so the only pressure I have is the pressure I put on myself. I have confidence in my team, the car and even my driving. I feel good about it. All the arrows are pointing up. We tested at Darlington last week, got to try out some new things and just get back in the car.”
ERICA ENDERS, ELITE MOTORSPORTS, MELLING PERFORMANCE/ELITE MOTORSPORTS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (two-time winner this season; second in points; reigning series champion):“I’ve never won at Sonoma and I’m just really hopeful that we’re able to throw up some good numbers on the board and park that Melling Performance car in the winner’s circle. The competition is stout. Every weekend our backs are going to be against the wall, but that’s what is so exciting about Pro Stock is that anybody can win any given Sunday. It’s going to be crucial to perform the best you can and position yourself the best you can for the Countdown to the Championship. I’m ready to get back on track at Sonoma.”
TROY COUGHLIN JR., ELITE MOTORSPORTS, JEGS.COM/ELITEMOTORSPORTS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (runner-up in season opener; transferred to final quad at Charlotte): “Being a part of Elite Motorsports, you know you’re always going to have the best car, power and crew. The guys in the engine shop never stop figuring out ways to make these motors sing. The chassis is constantly being tweaked. The clutch and suspensions are always fine-tuned. It’s a relentless pursuit. As such, I always try to be that precise with my driving. It’s the best way I know to say thank you to everyone that works around the clock to make us successful.”
KYLE KORETZKY, KB RACING, LUCAS OIL CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (first-year driver; semifinalist at Houston and Norwalk): “I tested with KB at Darlington (Dragway) last week and did a little bracket racing to keep me in the racing loop. Testing was huge for me. We tested a few new things, which went well, and just confidence in my driving, trying to stage better, hit the staging procedure better. All that is what you learn in testing because when you’re qualifying and racing that kind of goes out the window. In a Pro Stock car, you just can’t go to a local track and make runs. There’s a lot more to it. I’ve never been to Sonoma, so it’s a new one on my list. Going there after testing, I’m confident we can qualify in the top half of the field. I think we’ll do really well. I’m ready to back in this weekend.”
DALLAS GLENN, KB RACING, RAD TORQUE SYSTEMS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (first-year driver; winner at Charlotte four-wide): “I’ve learned a lot about patience. I’ve learned to take it back a little bit and have fun and just drive the car the way that I know how.”

NAMES OF FAME: Two Super DIRTcar stars to be inducted into Hall of Fame before Weedsport’s Hall of Fame 100

Super DIRTcar Series stars celebrate the careers of Northeast Dirt Hall of Fame 2021 inductees Brett Hearn and Pat Ward WEEDSPORT, NY – The Super DIRTcar Series returns to Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, July 25, for the Hall of Fame 100 – a $10,000-to-win NAPA Super DIRT Week XLIX Qualifier for the Billy Whittaker Cars 200. It’s an event that bears its name from another historic event that takes place three days prior. On Thursday, July 22, two of the Series’ biggest stars will be inducted in the Northeast Dirt Hall of Fame, located directly in front of the state-of-the-art speedway. They are the all-time Series champion and Feature win leader Brett “The Jett” Hearn and Series veteran Pat Ward, who has five Super DIRTcar Series win and a plethora of trophies from tracks across the Northeast.Ward, the “Genoa Giant,” was also partially responsible for building the foundation of Dirt Modified racing with his history as a chassis builder.“Pat Ward has done a lot for the modified division,” said Ward’s Gypsum Racing teammate Larry Wight. “He worked at Show Car Engineering building race cars. Then the Show Car burned down and that was the end of it but when you look back at history, the way the cars look today really stems from Pat and his car. He was one of the first ones to build a conventional body from a Gremlin-style car. There’s a lot of history with the “Genoa Giant.”A good portion of that history has been spent with the Wight family and Gypsum on the side of his car. You’ll rarely see the #42P or Ward and the #99L of Wight – who currently rides eighth in Series points with on top-five and four top-10s – far apart in the pit area.“It was really cool to have been the main sponsor for him for a couple of years,” Wight said. “Then we got into being a car owner and Pat was our driver. I think it’s been over twenty years that he’s been driving for us. We’re really happy as a family for Pat to be going into the Hall.”Their tie goes beyond the business of racing, too.“He’s taught me a lot about racing and working on the cars and even just being the best person, I could be,” Wight continued. “He was like an Uncle to me. I was always in the shop helping him and then when I got a Sportsman, he was helping me. I used to ride in the top of his stacker with the Sportsman because his hauler held three cars. We’ve always had a really good relationship.”While Wight saw Ward as a role model, Australian native Peter Britten – who is currently sixth in Series points (only 15 points out of third) – has done the same with Hearn.“Brett who?” Britten joked. “Racing against Brett Hearn for the latter part of his career and seeing what he’s been able to build and accomplish has been really inspiring. To be so successful for so long is a testament to how hard he worked and how he was able to surround himself with good people. That’s always been one of his strengths. He was able to put teams around him to survive in this deal.” Hearn was one of the first Big Block Modified drivers to sport a stacker hauler and corporate sponsorship. His persona was built through professionalism with sponsors, taking time with fans, and ferocity on the racetrack. That perfect storm of attributes shaped Hearn’s legacy not only in dirt modified racing but in American auto racing.“I look up to him as a racer but more so how he was able to build a career and a foundation for himself,” Britten continued. “I know things are different than the way it used to be but at the same time I feel like we are on an upswing as a Series. General racing fans out there know more about Big Blocks than they have in a long time. It can help bring sponsorship along too like I was with Pepsi for our Land of Legends Raceway program. There’s no one more deserving to go into the Hall of Fame than him and I wish him well on all his future endeavors.”For Weedsport Speedway track promoter and Series star Jimmy Phelps, seeing his fellow competitors get inducted into the Hall of Fame on the same weekend as one of his biggest events is a rewarding experience.“It’s a bit of a catch 22 when the guys you race against start getting inducted into the Hall of Fame,” Phelps said. “On one hand, great for them but on the other that means I’m getting a little older. Both Brett Hearn and Pat Ward are great racers who left a huge mark on our area’s racing. I am proud that we at Weedsport Speedway are a part of that whole thing. It’s well-deserving for sure.”Phelps is also eager for fans to return to the historic 3/8-mile speedway again after the lack of events in 2020.“We’ve put a lot of effort into the atmosphere and the show,” Phelps noted. “There’s going to be live music and all the entertainment we are known for pre-race. We have also been making some big gains on the racetrack. It’s getting where we know what to do prep-wise to ensure multiple lanes of racing. We’re excited to get the Series back to the track and open the gates up to fans again. That’s what it’s all about. We didn’t get to do that last year and we missed it.”Race fans can join in the Hall of Fame celebration starting on Thursday, July 22 at the Northeast Dirt Hall of Fame 2021 induction ceremony at 7 pm. Then on Sunday, July 25, be there at Weedsport Speedway for 100 laps of action for $10,000 and a guaranteed start at NAPA Super DIRT Week XLIX (Oct. 6-10). If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch all of the action live on DIRTVision with the annual Platinum FAST PASS or monthly FAST PASS subscription.PHOTO: Nick Graziano

Tyler Erb Tames Lucas Dirt Field at I-80-Wednesday Night

Greenwood, NE (July 21, 2021) – Tyler Erb flexed his muscles on Wednesday Night leading all 30 laps to win the Al Belt Custom Homes I-80 Nationals at I-80 Speedway. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regular picked up his first series win since his two early season victories at East Bay earlier this year. Ricky Weiss came home in second after starting in sixth. A hard-charging, wall running, Ricky Thornton Jr. came from the 13th starting spot to finish in third, earning another podium finish at I-80 Speedway. Monday night’s winner, Brandon Overton finished fourth with Stormy Scott completing the top five. The race was slowed by three Stop-Tech Cautions as Erb held off Weiss by 1.03 seconds for the win. Stormy Scott held the second spot until Weiss got by him just before the lap 22 caution for a slowing Scott Bloomquist.  Erb had Weiss breathing down his neck before the yellow flag came out with eight laps to go, allowing Erb to pull way in the final laps for the win. “Right before they threw the caution, I saw Randall’s stick close up. I was probably going to move up the lap before the caution and it kind of made it little easier on my mind. Honestly, after last night everyone was racing for second. We worked on our car the best we could. I want to thank Brandon Overton for coming in here and whipping up on us, it makes everyone better.” Weiss, a former Sunoco North-South 100 winner came home in second behind Erb. “We were really good on the long runs. I think he (Erb) was little bit better on the short runs. I definitely didn’t want to see that caution. I am just proud of my guys. Glad to get back up here on the podium and to be consistent again. Last night we held our heads high, and we knew we had to be better and tonight proved it. Tomorrow will be another day and hopefully we can be up here tomorrow night one spot better.”   Ricky Thornton Jr. had another impressive race at I-80 to come home in third. “That was fun. I wasn’t quite as good the middle and bottom as I wanted to be. After there was that big pile-up in three and four, we knocked the right rear off the car. I was just going to go for broke. I was going to stay around the cushion. I never felt like I was far enough ahead of Weiss that I could run my line again. To start 13th and finish third we’re definitely happy.” The winner’s Eric and Kelly Brock Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by M&W Transport, Roberts Bee Company, Posi Flow, Bazell Race Fuels, Go Lithium, Lucas Oil Products, Keyser Manufacturing, First Class Septic, and KBC Graphics Completing the top ten were Spencer Hughes, Chase Junghans, Jonathan Davenport, Tyler Bruening, and Jimmy Owens.

GLOBAL TIME ATTACK EVENT ADDED TO 2021 ACURA GRAND PRIX OF LONG BEACH

LONG BEACH, Calif. (July 21, 2021)  Global Time Attack (GTA) and Grand Prix Association of Long Beach officials announced today that the Global Time Attack Pro Championship will run at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, set for Sept. 24-26.

The GTA event will take place with competition laps on all three days. The event will feature 20 cars in three different divisions trying to set the fastest flying lap of the iconic 11-turn, 1.97-mile Long Beach race circuit. It’s the first time Global Time Attack has run at the Acura Grand Prix.

Global Time Attack, which staged its first-time attack in 2011, was founded with the goal of assembling the world’s fastest dedicated time attack cars together on a particular circuit. At Long Beach, it will feature the Unlimited, Limited and Street classes. The cars will be sent out 5-10 seconds apart so each can complete a number of flying laps of the circuit – laps with no race traffic – to see which car and team can set the fastest time. Only a team’s fastest lap over the course of the weekend will count. The cars are required to be mass-produced street cars that can be modified to GTA specifications. GTA is sanctioned by the SCCA Pro Racing.

“Words cannot explain how excited we are at Global Time Attack to join the 2021 Acura Grand Prix,” said Jason Dienhart, president of Global Time Attack. “We are honored to take part in this historic event and look forward to the GTA drivers attacking the iconic Long Beach Race Circuit.”

“This is an ideal addition to an already action-packed weekend,” said Jim Michaelian, president and CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. “The ‘rapid fire’ format and constant action should make for a lot of excitement for our fans and having them compete over the weekend brings even more entertainment to the 2021 Acura Grand Prix.”

In addition to Global Time Attack, the 2021 Acura Grand Prix will be headlined by a round of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and also feature the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, plus doubleheader action from the Super Drift Challenge, Robby Gordon’s SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks and the also new-for-2021 Historic Formula Atlantic Challenge.

Off the track, the event’s menu of family entertainment will also include the Lifestyle Expo featuring a large Family Fun Zone with racing simulators, kids’ racing cars, computer games and action sports. Add to that driver autograph sessions, special events, the popular Food Truck Experience and Sunday’s Mothers Exotic Car Paddock, it’s a weekend that will be packed full of activity with more activities to be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets are on sale now at gplb.com, or by phone at (888) 827-7333. Ticket prices range from $34 for a Friday General Admission ticket to $155 for a three-day ticket that includes Sat./Sun. reserved seating in grandstand upper levels.  Pre-paid parking is also available, along with handicapped seating, NTT INDYCAR SERIES Paddock passes, Super Photo tickets and a wide variety of hospitality packages.

East Coast Diesel Nationals 2021 Review

It is always fun to go to the Poconos in the Summer for this event. This year was filled with small pop-up storms all around us before and after the event. It didn’t keep the diehard fans away or competitors and enthusiasts saw some great competition.

However we still had plenty of very nice trucks represented at the show. On top of that mountain it was clear and sunny but hot all day long on Saturday. Perfect time to get our show in with some great racing match ups and even a few past champions tried their best at Numidia Dragway. All of the trucks chose to run 1/4 mile with speeds well over 120mph. The crowds saw some great action on the Estimated Time Class with many different diesels represented in the class.

Sled pulling got started about 30 minutes behind schedule because the track needed a little more prepping considering the rain it had received the last two days but in the end it was a very good track with plenty of traction. The Allison sled was a nice addition this year with even pulling weights and digital readout of footage. Overall classes provided plenty of entertainment with high footage pulls on a newly redone track.

Vendors were busy all day with people asking about products and services along with concessions. With it being hot for this region there was plenty of drinks and Italian Ice being purchased. Family fun on top of the mountain watching trucks, tractors and rods plus vendors all in one day. It is the only venue I know where you can watch drag racing and sled pulling going on during the same time right next to each other.

The dyno had trucks lined up all day long with much breakage among the trucks but always controlled and safe. This was a competition for the highest horsepower which was won by the four time champion from past years. This competition always draws a crowd!

Show-N-Shine was fewer trucks because many were afraid of dangerous storms with hail and high winds but we still had some diehards who provided great views of their personal builds! We hurried the track officials all day long and they moved it along quickly so we could finish early with more incoming storms. Not only did we beat the storms we had time to properly cleanup the tracks and head to the motels. No sooner than we pulled into the hotel all of our phone started to buzz with weather alerts to take shelter because a huge black storm cloud front was bearing down on us.

Regardless of the hurried day we got the event in with all activities completed and made sure everyone had some fun on top of the mountain at Numidia Dragway! What a great crew there and a big thank you to our DIESEL Motorsports crew who has done these shows so often they know how to complete our event effiiciently. . . . winners and photo link is below: Photos:https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=DIESELMotorsports.US&set=a.4518378251529704

It’s the second appearance for the World of Outlaws at the Dave Blaney-owned venue in Hartford, OH.
Last year’s venture to the speedway resulted in a battle for the ages. Sheppard, Ricky Weiss, Chase Junghans and Shane Clanton each took a turn leading the race in the final 10 laps with Sheppard getting the upper hand at the end.  PREVIOUS SHARON SPEEDWAY WINNERS2019- Brandon Sheppard The four-race weekend ends on Sunday, August 22, with a stop at Eriez Speedway in Erie, PA. It’s the Series’ sixth appearance at the Western Pennsylvania oval and the final chance to see the World of Outlaws in the Keystone State in 2021.  Last season, Dennis Erb Jr. found Victory Lane, passing Boom Briggs on the inside with 10 laps to go, and driving away for his only win of 2020.  PREVIOUS ERIEZ SPEEDWAY WINNERS2020- Dennis Erb Jr.  2018 – Chase Junghans 2017 – Brandon Sheppard 2016 – Josh Richards 2015 – Josh Richards  Fans who plan to attend these events have the chance to see Sheppard’s chase for World of Outlaws history. The New Berlin, IL driver is one win away from tying Darrell Lanigan for second on the all-time wins list (74) and five away from tying Josh Richards for the top spot (78). These events are also another step in his path to try and tie Richards for the most Series championships (4). The “Rocket Shepp” currently holds an 88 points lead over Chris Madden. Sheppard will have to fend off several drivers looking to keep him out of Victory Lane, including fellow Illinois campaigner Dennis Erb Jr. The “One Man Band” has been on a hot streak since June, racking up three wins and moving into the top five in the points standings.  The Northeast swing is also the final chance for Boom Briggs to race in front of his home-state crowd in 2021. Overton Over O’Neal in I-80 Opener Tuesday Night

GREENWOOD, NE (July 20, 2021) – Brandon Overton found himself in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory lane at I-80 Speedway for the Al Belt Custom Homes I-80 Nationals. During the 30 lap A-Main event, Overton had his hands full with several other drivers along his way to the checkers. Overton pulled away from Hudson O’Neal after a restart with five laps to go for his second series win of the year and his first ever at the Nebraska speedplant. Overton led on two different occasions during the race as O’Neal briefly led laps 15-18 until Overton forged back ahead for the final time on the 19th circuit. O’Neal finished in second followed closely by Ricky Thornton Jr., Kyle Bronson, and Frank Heckenast Jr. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the ninth time in his career, the 30-year-old Georgia native continued his two-month winning streak. “The first restart out there he (O’Neal) was ready. He snuck around me there on the outside and I just stayed calm. Our car is good, it’s really balanced. It isn’t all the way right yet, but we just have to keep working on it. All-in-all, to come out here and set fast time and win the race it’s pretty cool. This is such a cool place with a great payout. I am glad to be here to support the Kosiski’s and Lucas Oil.” O’Neal, the 2021 Show-Me 100 winner challenged Overton for several laps before coming home in second. “I don’t think I would have outrun him [Overton], but maybe I would have competed a little better than I did. I rolled that top really good on that restart. I mean, I was just running as hard as I could. I wasn’t going to sustain up there for very long until he was going to drive right back around me because I was going to get my tires really hot. It’s pretty amazing the way he’s running. I am not disappointed at all to finish second to him.”   Eibach Springs Rookie-of-the-Year candidate, Thornton Jr. came home in third. “This track kind of fits the way I drive. I am super-aggressive, but then you have to back up your exit. The track was really good tonight, hopefully it’s a really good week.” Overton’s Wells Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Allstar Concrete, Crossfit Overton, Garnto Southern, Big Dog Stump and Tree, R.W. Powell Construction, Clean Way Clearing and Grading, ATC Site Construction, Dirt Mafia, Hurst Construction, and EZ-GO. Completing the top ten were Shane Clanton, Tim McCreadie, Chase Junghans, Ricky Weiss, and Jonathan Davenport.

SWEET TASTE OF SILVER: The Big Cat Banks $25,000 at Lernerville’s Don Martin Memorial

Sye Lynch, Son of Local Hero Ed Lynch Jr., Nearly Completes Perfect Night at Home TrackSARVER, PA – July 20, 2021 – Gold is always the goal, but once a season with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy DrinkSprint Car Series, silver is sweeter. That one occasion came on Tuesday night when the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup XXX offered a $25,000 payday at Lernerville Speedway. In the end, it was Brad Sweet piecing together a dominant 40-lap performance to take the check and walk away with his 14th win of the season. The Kasey Kahne Racing, NAPA Auto Parts #49 started third, took the lead on Lap 12, and crossed the stripe with a massive margin of victory at 5.381-seconds.However, all night long, the story throughout the pits, in the nearly sold-out crowd, and on social media was Sye Lynch. The 23-year-old Apollo, PA native entered the 40-lap Feature with a perfect night under his belt. He had set Slick Woody’s QuickTime, won his Team Drydene Heat Race, and dominated the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash to put the #42 on the pole position. To the Lernerville locals, it was beginning to feel all too similar to the 2002 Silver Cup which sent Sarver into pandemonium. On that July night 19 years ago, it was Sye’s father Ed Lynch Jr. defeating the Outlaws and earning his first career victory at their home track. On this night, it was about the next generation and Sye’s golden opportunity. He commanded the opening lap of the Feature, but the crowd really came to life when Lynch fought Sweet for the top spot. The two-time and defending World of Outlaws champion tossed four different sliders at him, but Sye continued to rally back with his crossovers becoming savvier by the lap as the roars only echoed louder.Eventually, Sweet made his turn one slide job stick on the 12th circuit as Lynch was unable to find the drive off turn two to counter him. From there, The Big Cat never saw another challenge. The Grass Valley, CA native lapped his way up to 11th-place as he cruised away to a dominating victory worth $25,000. The win is Sweet’s third at Lernerville, but his first in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup. He joins his brother-in-law Kyle Larson as the only two Californians to win the Sarver, PA special event. It’s his 72nd career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series triumph, tying him with “The Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild for 11th on the All-Time Wins List. He now is only 12 wins away from reaching the top-10.”I about gave it away when I drove off the backstretch with five or so to go,” Sweet quickly said as the rain came down. “I had a really good car, we just got too free at the end. This NAPA Auto Parts car is fast right now. Excited for the rest of summer.”Donny Schatz made a late charge to put the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Ford Performance, Carquest #15 in the runner-up position.Aaron Reutzel ran second for most of the race but eventually slipped back to finish third aboard the Roth Motorsports #83. That’s nine podium results for the Clute, TX native, who is in the midst of a heated battle for The Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award. After starting on the outside pole, David Gravel brought the Big Game Motorsports #2 home with a fourth-place finish. Rounding out the top-five was Alice Springs, NT, AUS native James McFadden with a fifth-place bid for the Kasey Kahne Racing, Karavan Trailers #9.Closing out the top-1o on Tuesday night was Logan Schuchart in the Shark Racing #1S, Carson Macedo in the Jason Johnson Racing #41, Tim Shaffer in the Bryan Grove #28, Christopher Bell in the Swindell SpeedLab #39, and Sheldon Haudenschild in the Stenhouse Jr. Marshall Racing #17.Citing the wrong setup decision, Lynch’s #42 faded in the late going and ultimately ended up 15th, but his remarkable run through the beginning of the night lost no luster.UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series will travel to Central Pennsylvania for another matchup vs. the PA Posse this weekend. Dominic Scelzi Victorious On and Off the Race Track Recently

Inside Line Promotions – WATSONVILLE, Calif. (July 20, 2021) – The last couple of weeks have been fruitful for Dominic Scelzi both at the track and away from it.

Scelzi welcomed his first child – a daughter – last weekend, which helped erase the sour taste from a frustrating outing during the 11th annual Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway. on Saturday.

“I think at the end of the day it’s more of the big picture,” he said. “We’re still not going to be happy with anything but a win, but it’s one of those things you have the big picture. At the end of the day you get to go home to an amazing family and beautiful baby girl.”

Scelzi qualified 13th quickest and finished third in a heat race, which lined him up on the inside of the eighth row for the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series main event. He was then caught up in an early crash that resulted in his car getting upside down. However, his team repaired enough damage to send Scelzi back onto the track and he hustled from the rear of the field to salvage the night with an 11th -place result.

“We went out late in qualifying and didn’t qualify very good,” he said. “In the heat we were third by the flagstand. In the feature we were up to 10 th or 11th a few laps in. There was a big crash in turns one and two. We had nowhere to go and got into it. We blew the front end out of it and I sat on my side for 20 minutes and watched the oil drain out of it. My guys worked their butts off in the work area and we were able to get back out there. That was huge because every guy involved in the points battle was involved in a crash.”

The rally helped Scelzi close to within one point of the leader in the championship standings.

Scelzi posted his 13th win of the season during a weekly 360ci winged sprint car show at Ocean Speedway on July 9. He charged from eighth to garner the victory, which was his first of the season at the track.

“We qualified fifth and were really, really good,” he said. “We started third and ran third in the heat race, but were right with first and second. I felt extremely confident going into the feature. The race car was perfect and we got a little better as the race went on. The track slicked off and slowed down. I was the only guy who could make the bottom in turns one and two work. When we got into traffic and started sliding guys I started rolling the bottom and got Justin Sanders coming to the white flag. It was awesome that we were as fast as we were and could pass Justin, who is the guy to beat at Ocean.”

The next night Scelzi timed in seventh quickest, won a heat race, placed second in the dash and finished fourth in the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series A Main at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., during the Salute to Baylands Raceway Park.

“We qualified seventh and won a heat race to make the dash,” he said. “We were leading the dash and had a caution with one lap to go. The NARC officials made a mistake and went double file instead of single file for the restart. It went lights out as half the field was waving off the start. I was stuck on the outside and not able to get lane choice. We lost the restart and ran second so we had to start second in the main event. The officials acknowledged the mistake after, but we were locked into the outside front row for the feature. We went green in the feature and went with the leader, but the officials decided I jumped the start. I had to restart fourth and kind of just ran there. We ended up gaining two positions and lost two positions to guys who could maneuver better.”

Scelzi enters a pair of series shows this weekend – Friday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., for the Chris and Brian Faria Memorial and Saturday at Santa Maria Raceway in Santa Maria, Calif. – hungry to reclaim the points lead.

“We’ve won the last NARC races at both tracks,” he said. “We’re extremely confident. Tulare is one of my best tracks and we’ve been really good there. I feel we have a really good package there. We’re running the 360 and the 410 that night. And I think we’ve run at Santa Maria three or four times over the years. You never know what to expect. I’m excited to get there for the first time with Jimmy (Carr).”
