LEADER OF THE PACK:
Seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) champion and career-long Chevrolet driver, Jimmie Johnson, is the leader of the pack at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). Johnson has seven wins, 15 top-five’s and 21 top-10 finishes, more than any other driver in the series.

BACK WHERE IT ALL BEGAN:
The all-new Camaro ZL1 is the first Chevrolet racecar to have no on-track testing before making its season debut. In January, at a Goodyear Tire Test, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver, Chase Elliott took the new ZL1 out for its first laps around a racetrack at TMS. Since those laps, the Camaro ZL1 earned its first victory in the season-opening Daytona 500. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas Advance

TEAM CHEVY NOTES AND QUOTES:
ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 7th
WAS THIS THE RUN YOU GUYS WERE LOOKING FOR AFTER KIND OF A SLOW START TO THE SEASON?
“Yeah, I mean… it’s frustrating to say we are looking for a seventh, but much better than we have been the last couple of weeks and just happy for all my guys. They have worked really hard all off season and all year. We haven’t had the results we wanted, so to come here and finish stronger is definitely a step in the right direction. We’ve got a long way to go, but we are headed the right way.”

WHAT IS THE MOOD LIKE IN THE SHOP?
“Nobody has really made a big deal of anything. Obviously, you read media stuff and everybody is all fired up, but we know we are off, but everybody is just real motivated and working harder. It’s a lot of guys that have won a lot of races and they want to get back to that winning feeling. So, they are all working really hard and got the best in the business back at the shop working to get better.

THERE WERE ONLY THREE CHEVY’S IN THE TOP 10 WITH YOU. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR TEAM WAS ABLE TO FIND THIS WEEKEND?
“That is a good question. I don’t know if it was one thing. I felt like I had some good observations after second practice on somethings I wanted to change and they seemed to pay off big during the race. Or at least be the right direction during the race. Greg (Ives, crew chief) just made really good adjustments. Every stop we got better, we had solid pit stops all day, the pit crew worked really hard, just good decisions on top of the box and a good racecar.”

IS THIS THE PLACE YOU THOUGHT YOU WOULD GET YOUR FIRST TOP 10 OF THE YEAR?
“No, not at all. I mean Daytona, and then if not Daytona then Atlanta, and then if not Atlanta, Phoenix, I mean we are here to win races every week. To take this long to get a Top 10 it’s not what we wanted at all, but glad we are going the right way.”

DID THE RACE FEEL KIND OF LOW KEY FROM INSIDE THE CAR WITH ONLY FOUR CAUTIONS?
“No, I had my hands full. It wasn’t mellow for me. I’m a little worn out. That was a physical one for me at least. I changed some stuff inside the racecar that made me able to go faster, but probably wore me out a little quicker. I’m glad that I didn’t fall out of the seat there because it was pretty physical, but it was fun.”

ANY PARTICULAR CHANGES YOU ASKED GREG FOR DURING THE RACE THAT MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE?
“I think most everything we did was air pressure just because big changes take so long on pit stops now. So, just small changes. Got some different stuff in the car air pressure wise so I could play with the trackbar a little bit and it seemed to work out. So, definitely felt like the end of the run we fell off a little more than we wanted to. We were trying to go get that No. 22 (Joey Logano) and just kind of fell off too much at the end. Definitely solid changes all day.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 KROGER CLICKLIST CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 8th
GREAT DAY FOR YOU AND THE NO. 47 TEAM CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR RUN TODAY:
“Yeah, it was just a solid day. We were just missing just a little bit to go up there and run with the best of them. The last set of tires didn’t agree with the car, the car was bouncing around a lot. It’s unfortunate that our last set of tires were our worst, but that happens. We still got a top 10 out it, ran in the top 10 all day and was able to start 25th and pass a lot of cars. Solid day, what we needed at one of our better racetracks. These are the places we know that we have a better chance at and we have to take advantage of it. So, I would say I’m okay with eighth, I wish we could have got a little bit more at the end of the race there, but a solid day all around.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 9th
NOT WHAT YOU WERE LOOKING FOR OUT OF TODAY, BUT ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH A 10TH?
“No, I thought our last run was way better than what we had had before that. But, we were just way too far off there for the majority of the day to expect that you are going to catch up by the end. We have some work to do.”

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1 – Finished 20th
“The first couple of runs I thought we were decent. Fifty lap runs seemed to be kind of our money spot, we needed a lot of 50-lap runs. I think that once we got into the run we struggled a little bit and towards the end we kind of managed. We just needed a couple of more short runs to kind of be able to gain some spots, but not bad. Not what we wanted by far, but this is a fun racetrack and hopefully come back stronger in the fall.”

DARRELL ‘BUBBA’ WALLACE, JR., NO. 43 STP CAMARO ZL1 met with media and discussed his past success of racing at Martinsville, the challenges of the No. 43 team this season, drumming, celebrities coming to NASCAR races, and much more. Full Transcript:

YOU HAD A TRUCK SERIES WIN HERE IN 2014. HOW DOES WHAT YOU DID THEN TRANSLATE AT THIS LEVEL?
“It translates a lot. It brings back some memories. It’s been three and a half years since I’ve been here. We got in last night about 10:30 and it was pitch black, but I just knew my way like the back of my hand. It’s so cool to be back. I love coming to this place. Always great success. Good racing. And now that I’m here in the Cup series, you’re at the top level so you’re feeling all the nooks & crannies of what goes on with those guys go for each and every day. I remember sitting on pit road or at the time, I was driving for Kyle (Busch), so I’d sit on his hauler and just watch the Cup guys. So now, I’m actually driving the Cup car. So this is a cool moment for sure, coming back, and driving the No. 43 STP Chevrolet for the STP 500. The car looks great. It’s the most bad-ass-looking car here, for sure. I may be a little bias, but I think everybody can agree.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–Bubba Wallace

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S FOR PROS CAMARO ZL1 met with media and discussed the challenging weather this weekend at Martinsville, his approach during practice sessions, the progress of the No. 48 team thus far this year, and more. Full Transcript:

YOU’VE HAD NINE CAREER WINS HERE AT MARTINSVILLE. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET YOUR 10TH?
“I think survive the snowstorm and see what happens with the weather. I don’t know. When it’s warm here, there’s a certain amount of rubber that gets laid down on the track that we all anticipate. With the cooler temps, I think being smart and trying to understand how much the track will change, if much at all, because of the cooler temps and we’ll hopefully have some sun tomorrow. But, that’s really going to be the guessing game as to how the car will change as the race progresses and that’s really based on how much rubber goes down. So, we’ll keep a close eye on that. We’ve had a good record here at judging that stuff. We’re excited to be here at one of my best tracks and looking forward to getting out there.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–Jimmie Johnson

TALK ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS HEADING INTO THIS WEEKEND AT MARTINSVILLE:
“Our last two races here have been much improved over the first couple and we are not real sure why that has been, but it has been a better track for me. This has been one of my worst places and one of the places that I personally feel like I’ve struggled at a lot. So, to have a couple of good runs here the past two races has been nice, encouraging, had a car good enough to compete for a win here last time. We were close this race last year, but definitely better in the fall. So, we learned some things. My emotions are just excited and looking forward to the weekend and an opportunity to go and try and compete for a win.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–Chase Elliott

LEADER OF THE PACK:
Did you know that Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with 56 wins at Martinsville Speedway? Chevrolet has gone to Victory Lane more than any other brand at the oldest track on the circuit. Buck Baker took Chevrolet to Winner’s Circle for the first time in 1957 piloting the famous ‘Black Widow’ – a car based off the Chevy 150 Utility Sedan. Since then seven other iconic Chevy brands (Bel Air, Biscayne, Impala, Monte Carlo, Lumina, Impala SS and SS) have entered the hallowed ground of Winner’s Circle at Martinsville adding to the long tradition of racing. YOU ENDED UP BRINGING IT HOME SECOND BUT YOU HEARD KEVIN HARVICK SAY HE TOOK THE BLAME FOR THE INCIDENT, HOW DID THE TWO OF YOU COME TOGETHER EARLIER IN THE RACE?
“We were racing really hard and I was better than him in three and four and he was better than me in one and two. I would side draft him down the front stretch and he would side draft me down the back stretch and I don’t know if he was just coming down to side draft me or what but we made contact and it spun his car to the right. So, you never want to make contact with anybody but all in all it was a good day for our DC Solar Chevrolet team. We had a lot of weird issues like vibrations and stuff that made us have to restart in the back and we would have to go back forward. It always seemed like we would get to third or fourth and kind of stall out there. But it was still a very good day. The 78 was really good and I think the 4 was probably the best car again although he didn’t get to race a whole lot. We are right there and we just have to continue to work hard. Hats off to everybody at our race shop because they have done a great job of getting our Camaros up to speed quickly. So I am having fun, but I would like to be one spot better though.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Auto Club Speedway–Post Race

CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Valiant Effort in Chase for Four Straight
Gavin, Milner, Fässler lead team with fifth-place GTLM finish at 12 Hours

SEBRING, Fla. (March 17, 2018) – Corvette Racing put forth another strong effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on Saturday with Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler leading the team’s efforts at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts.

The trio in their No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R placed sixth in GT Le Mans (GTLM) after a trouble-free run that saw the Corvette go from ninth at the start to the lead of the race at the four-hour mark.

As was the case at the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona, the No. 4 Corvette team didn’t make any missteps, didn’t lose any time in the pitlane and kept the C7.R running all day and into the night. The pace from the rest of the front-running cars, however, proved to be more than a spotless race could overcome. I’ve seen Lefty before, but I met him a little bit two weeks ago when I was out here and we did a deal close to the track with some kids and actually got to learn how to play the guitar, which was really cool. Lefty was there. It was a great band and they’re coming as well. To be part of this and see the kids here and the 135,000 people it touches this year is really neat and unbelievable.
