DRIVER QUOTES:
JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 1 HITACHI TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, POLE WINNER:
DID YOU KNOW IT WAS THAT TIGHT BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR TEAMMATE AND HOW HARD WERE YOU PUSHING ON THAT FINAL LAP?
“Yeah, Tim (Cindric) was telling me when I came in what the lap time was. I didn’t know if that was going to be enough. It was a good lap. Actually, I like this set of tires a little bit better than the others. You almost have a favorite sometimes with the Firestones, but they held up well. I think he had a slight advantage because he didn’t have to do a hot lap on his, but I knew our car was quick. After I saw the time we did on this set of tires I knew we had a shot at it. Really proud of everybody, Hitachi being on the car with us, it’s good to get them a first pole and just everyone else. Team Chevy has done a really good job. They have really given us the good power this weekend, good drivability. We are going to need some fuel mileage tomorrow which I think we will have, but it’s going to get mixed up with the rain. So, I think the first part of this weekend is done. We just need to focus on tomorrow now and see how we are going to get through the weather.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Barber–Post Qualifying

ON THE INCIDENT WITH JAMES HINCHCLIFFE:
“I mean, I apologize to Hinch. I wasn’t looking, so when I got going, I think I got going a little too slow and I didn’t realize he was actually there. So, it’s my fault, just not looking. I will apologize to him, but yeah, I’m glad it didn’t turn out worse and we got to at least do our lap and show what this car was capable of.”

HOW IMPORTANT IS A POLE HERE?
“Yeah, it’s important. I think whenever you get the pole it’s a good day. It shows the speed of the car, it shows the work that everyone at Team Penske has put in, but when you have weather it’s even better. You want to start up front with the spray. So hopefully, that brings us a little good luck tomorrow and we will try and finish this thing off right.”

FIVE TEAM CHEVY DRIVERS QUALIFY IN TOP 12

RICHMOND, Va. (April 20, 2018) – Chase Elliott drove his No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Camaro ZL1 to a front row starting spot in today’s knockout-style qualifying session for tomorrow night’s Toyota Owners 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway. Elliott turned a lap of 136.643 mph, 26.346 seconds to capture his fourth top-10 start of the season and his second in six races at Richmond.

“A much better Friday than we have been having,” Chase Elliott said after qualifying concluded. “This has been a ridiculous stretch of races for me and the No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Camaro ZL1 team. We have just been struggling and kind of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. We have had fast cars at times, just hasn’t seemed to work out. I typically don’t qualify very good, so I’m happy we could have a good qualifying effort and hopefully, our car in race trim is one spot better.” Continue reading CHASE ELLIOTT PUTS CAMARO ZL1 ON OUTSIDE FRONT ROW AT RICHMOND FIVE TEAM CHEVY DRIVERS QUALIFY IN TOP 12

We are just trying to take those right now. A much better Friday than we have been having. This has been a ridiculous stretch of races for me and our team. Iconic Supercar Is 15th Corvette To Lead ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’

INDIANAPOLIS (April 19, 2018) – The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is the official Pace Car for the 2018 Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil and will lead drivers to the green flag Sunday, May 27 for the 102nd Running of the legendary race.

It marks the 15th time a Corvette has served as the official Pace Car, starting in 1978, and the 29th time a Chevrolet has led the field, dating back to 1948, when a 1948 Fleetmaster Six convertible paced the race.

No other vehicle has served as the Pace Car more than the Corvette. To celebrate the iconic supercar’s connection to “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” the 2019 Corvette ZR1 and the other 14 Corvettes that have paced the “500” were on display on the front straightaway today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. DETROIT (April 18, 2018) – The diverse Verizon IndyCar Series (VICS) season intersects with the long and winding road course of Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, this weekend for the third distinct challenge for Chevrolet teams and drivers in as many weeks.

Chevrolet has won the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on the 2.38-mile, 17-turn natural-terrain circuit the past three years, with Josef Newgarden recording two victories and Team Penske teammate Simon Pagenaud taking the checkered flag on his drive to the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series championship.

Newgarden’s dominant victory in 2015, in which he led more than half the 90 laps, was his first in an Indy car, and his 2017 win was the first of a series-high four during the season that led to his maiden driver title.

The race will be the first test on a road course of the Dallara chassis with the new universal aerodynamic bodywork powered by the 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V6 Chevrolet engine.

Two weeks ago, Newgarden drove the No. 1 Team Penske Chevrolet to his eighth career win on the 1.022-mile ISM Raceway oval in Avondale, Arizona. Last weekend, Will Power led the Team Chevy charge with a runner-up finish on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn Long Beach street circuit in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet.

“Barber is one of my favorite tracks we visit — not just because we’ve won there — but because it’s a cool track and it’s only a few hours away from where I grew up (in Nashville, Tennessee). That just makes it even more special when I’ve won there,” said Newgarden, who is second in the standings heading into the fourth of 17 races. “Barber is going to be interesting since it’s the first time we’re racing the new car on a road course. I think it could lead to some really exciting racing for the great fans at Barber and the fans at home. The whole No. 1 Hitachi Chevrolet team and I are ready to take the strong car we have ready for this weekend to the track and run a great race.”

Twenty-four Verizon IndyCar Series drivers had the opportunity March 20 to test on the Barber Motorsports Park course. At 1 minute, 07.9793 seconds (121.802 mph), Newgarden clicked off the quickest lap and Power was a close second.

“Long Beach was really great for the whole No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet team,” Power said. “It’s done a lot for team morale going into this weekend at Barber. Road courses are always a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to racing one with the new car.”

In 2017, Chevy Racing won four of the six races on road courses (Newgarden at Barber at Mid-Ohio, Power at Indianapolis, and Pagenaud at Sonoma) and claimed 10 of 18 podium positions.

NBCSN will telecast the race live at 3 p.m. ET Sunday.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 16, 2018) – After completing 204 circuits around the 0.526-mile Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) on Sunday, the race was suspended due to weather. The eighth Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race of the season resumed on Monday amid threatening snow, sleet and rain. Despite all those factors and an on-track spin while leading, Kyle Larson piloted his No. 42 McDonald’s Camaro ZL1 to a runner-up finish. Larson came just shy of collecting his first win at ‘The Last Great Coliseum’, but his machine became too loose in the closing laps to hold the top spot. Larson led a race-high 200 laps and it was his fifth top 10 finish in nine races at BMS and fourth top 10 finish of the 2018 season. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Bristol Post Race

“Yeah, they were definitely good early in the stint. But that was absolutely driving just as hard as I could go and I am sure he was driving has hard as he could go. I am sure he was using push to pass and the Hondas are just a little bit better out of the hairpin. On the restarts, I couldn’t get close. I think we had better top end but their drive out of the hairpins was really good. BRISTOL, Tenn. – April 15, 2018 – After completing 204 circuits around Bristol Motor Speedway, the remainder of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Food City 500 has been postponed to Monday, April 16th due to persistent rain.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver, Kyle Larson, was scored as the leader when the race was suspended. The theme thus far in the eighth race of the 2018 Cup Series season has been stop and go. The start of the Food City 500 was slightly delayed in order to get the track dry from morning rain showers. Three red flag periods, two for weather and one for an on-track multi-car accident, halted the green-flag action for a total of 51 minutes. DRIVER QUOTES:

WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 2ND:
“It was good. I felt like we had a really good car. Got to the Fast Six like we needed to, and yeah, just were not fast enough basically to be on pole, but very happy to be on the front row. You know, we’ve kind of crept up all weekend and definitely made the car better and in a good window now. Yeah, that was a lot of fun”

SIMON PAGENAU”D, NO. 22 DXC TECHNOLOGY TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 3RD:
“It is a really good result, all three of us in the Fast Six. It’s not easy these days. I have to say, I just want to pull my hat off to Team Penske for obviously understanding the street course setup. It’s been difficult just because of the success we’ve had with the previous aero kits. We’ve had to rethink a little bit, and three races we’ve been able to do it. Quite impressive I have to say. I’m quite excited to see that we could get the car in such a good place, and myself, I just have to extract a little bit more out of it, but obviously it was a fun and great qualifying. Gavin and Milner take No. 4 Corvette C7.R to Victory Lane at Long Beach – Winning Driver’s Quotes with Jim Campbell Quote

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SIRIUS XM CORVETTE C7.R, RACE WINNER: “There is something about Long Beach. Something about having magic here. I don’t know what it is. We had it today. We had it last year. Whatever it is, I want to keep it. Really tough race today. The track was really, really tough with the marbles off line. Super difficult. I almost threw it away on the last corner, last lap. Really, really tough conditions. But, Corvette was great. Michelins were great. They were super strong right to the end. Just had that little bit of magic, litle bit of luck and that’s all we needed today!”

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBILE 1/SIRIUS XM CORVETTE C7.R, RACE WINNER: NOTE-TODAY’S VICTORY IS THE 50TH FOR GAVIN DRIVING FOR CORVETTE RACING: “Amazing the way that all came around. Yes we had a little bit of luck, but Tommy had to drive brilliantly at the end there and stay out of trouble. There were a number of incidents there. Man, we could have gotten taken out. We could have gotten in the wall. Tommy just navigated. We had a great pit stop. The guys did an amazing job at the stop. We jumped a number of people and put us in position there we we could challenge for that victory. And we got it! That is our first win in season No. 20 for Corvette Racing. And it is my 50th victory with the team. That is pretty amazing. I am just thrilled.”

JIM CAMPBELL, US VICE PRESIDENT PERFORMANCE VEHICLES AND MOTORSPORTS: “This team just does not give up. While we didn’t have the ideal starting position, Olly and Tommy took advantage of every opportunity on track and the crew executed in the pits. Congratulations to the #4 Corvette team for back-to-back wins at Long Beach.”
