ED CARPENTER, NO. 20 FUZZY’S VODKA ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET:

Q. When you were growing up, what was your thought about running an Indianapolis 500 racecar?
ED CARPENTER: I don’t know. Beyond race day I think driving for Eddie in my rookie year, he did a lot to help me develop, start developing my mental approach to how you drive a car here, how you mentally prepare to drive a car here, what you should be thinking about with the car, the team. Even though it wasn’t all that successful of a month of May, working with guy that was a 500 champion, instilled in me some good habits in me that I’ve been able to expand on, make my own, refine as the years have gone on. JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 1 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET:

Q. Obviously the last couple years has been really, really thrilling, exciting racing. With the temperature the way it is and that the cars have, how is it going to change it? What are we going to see do you think?
JOSEF NEWGARDEN: It’s hard to say. I don’t think the front of the field will change drastically from years past, which is good. We’ve had great races for the last five or six years, and I think when IndyCar was developing the ’18 kit, this was a place they didn’t want to change. The front of the pack I don’t think will alter massively from last season. Deeper in the pack it is tougher. It’s tougher to get runs on people, it’s tougher to follow. There’s a little less downforce on the car in race trim, the maximum you can put on, so when it’s a hot day, it makes it a little bit tough.
I think tire dropoff might be higher compared to years past with temperatures being up. But not drastic differences. I think the front will look very similar. You’re going to see guys swapping back and forth. It’s just you get buried in the pack, it’ll probably be a little harder to work your way forward. HELIO CASTRONEVES: I see the fans, a lot of people excited to have the number four. I’ll do everything I can to make people’s wishes come true, including mine.

Q. Last year you ran really well. We all hated to see what happened when you went over to the sports car program. In some ways do you feel more refreshed coming into May?
HELIO CASTRONEVES: No question, going into a new program, you see your hard work, not only myself, I’m talking about the Acura Team Penske, the entire organization, putting a lot of effort into the program. We captured 1 and 2 in Mid-Ohio. This is phenomenal. Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Helio Castroneves

An interview with Funny Car winner COURTNEY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, ADVANCE AUTO PARTS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (third win of season; 11th win of career; surpassed 175 career round wins; stretches points lead):

TALK ABOUT THE TURNAROUND FROM NO WINS IN 2017 TO THREE IN 2018
“It’s been really insane. I’m proud to be part of this Advance Auto Parts team. To be completely honest, everyone’s talking about the fact that we had so many No. 1 qualifiers but didn’t seal the deal. To be honest, I had such a great team and pretty much the same team as I do this year. Ronnie Thompson and Dan Hood tuning my car and getting us all those No. 1 qualifiers last year, and we came close to a couple wins. This year, Brian Corradi coming on board joining with Danny and a couple guys who came on our Advance Auto Parts team and things kind of shifted and we were able to get these No. 1 qualifiers and seal it off with a win. It feels amazing. Being in the points lead, coming off of back to back wins, it’s just insane. I got on my radio and told my guys that they are just unbelievable. It’s so much fun driving this race car and it’s been a handful out here this weekend. Coming to a track where the conditions have changed drastically every single day I have to give a lot of credit to my crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Dan Hood and every single guy on my team. It was a Sunday morning race that turned into a Sunday 7 p.m. race, cooler track, we were able to get it done even with a lucky first-round win having to pedal it down there. Lost lane choice in the second round. Still were able to turn the win light on and get lane choice back and make it a little bit longer weekend. Having to run on a Monday makes for a long weekend, but it feels good to be in the winner’s circle with my team and celebrate for everyone at Chevy and all our partners.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NHRA–Heartland Park–Courtney Force

YOU ARE ON THE POLE POSITION AGAIN HERE AT INDY. WHAT IS IT ABOUT THIS PLACE? DO YOU JUST GO HOME AT NIGHT AND DREAM ABOUT THIS PLACE BECAUSE YOU HAVE GOT IT COMPLETELY WIRED
“Most nights (laughs) to be honest. But, I’ve just got to thank my team. That first lap blew my mind. I figured we could run a 229 (mph) based on last night. My run last night actually wasn’t very good. The car wasn’t near as good as we’ve been. So, I knew had more left but I wasn’t expecting a 230 (mph), but the whole ECR team, especially the guys on my No. 20 car, they’ve put so much love into this car and it means everything to me to put us in a position like this. And to be able to share the top nine in this whole thing with Spencer (Pigot), his first time in the top nine with Preferred Freezer, and Danica (Patrick) with GoDaddy, we’re super happy to be here and obviously it couldn’t be possible without Fuzzy’s Vodka. Hopefully we can keep doing this a long time.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Indianapolis Fast Nine

IT TOOK YOU A LITTLE WHILE TO GET TO THE FRONT, BUT IT LOOKED LIKE YOU WERE ABLE TO USE THE HIGH GROOVE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE:
“Yeah, it looked like the 10 car there was pretty tight. He was either loose and getting it up off the bottom and then getting tight or just tight and couldn’t hold the bottom. I felt like we were just able to carry some momentum around the outside of them, but really cool for Axalta. William Sturgill that pretty much does the day-to-day stuff on this Axalta account for us got a promotion and this is kind of his last weekend with us. So, cool to get something neat for him with Axalta on the car, but just thankful to be here.
