NEXT WEEK WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEASON WE STILL HAVE A PRETTY LONG LIST OF NOTEWORTHY DRIVERS WE HAVEN’T WON. IS THERE THAT BIG OF A SEPARATION BETWEEN THE WINNERS AND YOU GUYS WHO HAVE BEEN CLOSE?
“Some weeks, yes. I mean some weeks you know it’s been a pretty big difference. Other weeks I feel like we have been a lot closer. Unfortunately, I haven’t really found a… at some places I would think that we were a good ways off, might be another track… I will give you an example. Pocono, I thought we had a really good race at Pocono. We didn’t finish very well, but we were pretty competitive with the competition. Typically, when you run well at Pocono you go to Michigan and run well too and we ran really well at Pocono, went to Michigan and didn’t run well. I was kind of surprised by that and you know felt like I kind of had an idea of what we needed and the direction we were going was better for all those places and obviously that wasn’t the case. I can think back through a few races throughout the year where I thought we were in the ballpark, but for the most part there has been a bigger gap on those 1.5-mile to 2-mile tracks.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Chicagoland–Chase Elliott

DID YOU IMAGINE YOURSELF AS THE POINTS LEADER AT THE HALFWAY POINT OF SEASON?
“Definitely not the way it started out. All the guys who work on this car dug down deep and have pulled out a very good race car for me. I couldn’t be more proud of them. This is all them. We’ve tested and they’ve worked their butts off to get us where we’re at. I can’t be more thankful for the opportunity to race. Newgarden Puts Chevy in Victory Lane in Wisconsin

ELKHART LAKE, WISC –Josef Newgarden put on a driving clinic for the competition today at Road America today as he captured his third victory of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series (VICS) season and 10th of his career. The defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion started his No. 1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet on the pole, and went on to lead 53 of the 55-lap race around the 4.014-mile Wisconsin natural terrain road course.

Touting both the power and fuel mileage of his 2.2 liter Chevrolet twin turbocharged direct injected V6 engine, the second-year Team Penske driver was relieved to take the top spot on the podium after coming so close in 2017. Continue reading Newgarden Puts Chevy in Victory Lane in Wisconsin

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 1 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, RACE WINNER:
HOW BAD DID YOU WANT THIS ONE JOSEF?
“Really bad. I have wanted to win here since last year. I felt like we had a car that could win then, and it just didn’t happen. This Chevrolet has been a rocket all weekend, but it was not easy. Ryan (Hunter-Reay) was quick and I knew (Scott) Dixon was right behind him, so we were working for it the entire race. These Team Penske guys were the best. They gave me incredible pit stops and I think we nailed the strategy. Tim (Cindric) was coaching me through the whole thing so I kind of knew what I had to do, but it was a lot of work I will be honest with you. Ryan was really pushing me. So just hats off to the whole Team Penske team, I wish we could have all those other guys up here with us, but it’s good to get a win. Doesn’t matter which car gets one, it’s just good to get a win for Team Penske.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Post Race Quotes

It was a repeat performance for Larson, who also captured the pole at the 1.99-mile road course in 2017.

This was the sixth MENCS career pole for Larson and it also marked the third pole of the 2018 season for the Camaro ZL1 with Larson earning two of those thus far (Dover, and now Sonoma). YOU GAINED SIX TENTHS FROM ROUND 1 TO ROUND 2. WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU MADE UP THE MOST TIME?
“I think the first round, I just wanted to get a fairly smooth lap in and not make any mistakes to try to get into the Top 12. I felt like I ran a clean lap, but I felt there were areas I could make up some time. A lot in the breaking zones. And I feel like I made up most of my speed in the final round, there. So, it’s cool to get a pole at my own home track here in Sonoma; and DC Solar’s home track as well. Qualifying here is one of my favorite things of the year. So, I’m glad we could pick up a lot of time there and get the pole.” Continue reading Chevy Racign–NASCAR–Sonoma–Qualifying

I would like to race well here soon. I don’t know what it is about the race, but I always seem to struggle a little bit.
