CORVETTE RACING AT LIME ROCK: Antonio Garcia Pole-Winner Quote

LAKEVILLE, Connecticut (July 21, 2018) – Antonio Garcia captured pole position for today’s Northeast Grand Prix with the fastest lap for a GT car in the history of Lime Rock Park. Garcia lapped the 1.5-mile, seven-turn circuit in 49.754 seconds and averaged 106.652 mph in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R that he will share with Jan Magnussen.

Tommy Milner qualified fourth in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R at 50.048 (106.025 mph). He will team with Oliver Gavin.

Corvette Racing is going for its sixth Lime Rock victory in 12 starts and can capture its 100th triumph in IMSA competition with a win today.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – POLE-WINNER: “It felt really good… fast for sure. This is the first time a GT car has been under 50 seconds here. It’s pretty awesome to be able to run on low fuel and good tires; this afternoon will be completely different. This is the fun part… not taking care of the tires! But the race today will be the complete opposite.”

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT NOW TO HAVE A COMPLETELY CLEAR TRACK FOR THE FIRST SEVERAL LAPS? “We are not used to that! For the first time in awhile, we don’t have cars in front of us. This is definitely the best starting position. We will see how the strategy plays out here. Let’s see how our Corvette is here on a long stint. But we have proven that we are always good on race pace. Let’s hope this is a good sign.”

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 CREDIT ONE BANK CAMARO ZL1, met with members of the media at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and discussed his broadcast debut during the Eldora Dirt Derby, other dirt tracks that might work for Truck Series racing and beyond, his thoughts on New Hampshire Motor Speedway and many other topics. Full Transcript:

GOOD IN THE BOOTH AT ELDORA, HOW DID YOU LIKE IT AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN?
“Yeah, I had a lot of fun doing it. I was really nervous. I had never done anything like that, but once we got about halfway through qualifying I was like ‘oh this isn’t too bad it’s pretty fun’ just be relaxed and you can do a good job. It was tough too I was trying to be prepared before the race so watching races back. I have never watched a race and didn’t really pay attention to the race and try to focus on what they were saying in the booth. It was hard to study because it was something totally different than what I was used to. I found myself forgetting to pay attention to what they were saying in the booth and more just watching the race, but we did good, it was fun. I thought (Christopher) Bell did a really good job on pit road. I felt like at the time before I did it I had the tougher job than he did because we would be talking so much in the booth, but once I got in there and you hear the producers in your ear talking and Bell he had to kind of be ready to go and have something to talk about at all times. We would toss it down to him and he wouldn’t even be expecting it and he did a good job with that. It was fun though. Vince (Welch) and Michael (Waltrip) made it easy and hopefully we can do it again next year.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire–Kyle Larson

IT WAS A GOOD BATTLE WITH YOU AND ROBERT WICKENS AND HE GAVE YOU A LITTLE BUMP AT THE END. IT LOOKED LIKE JUST HARD RACING
“Yeah, hard racing and good racing. I had fun. It was really, really tough out there. The track was changing all the time. I don’t know if it’s the dust or the tires, but certainly re-starts, where I had wheel speed up to 50 on the front straightaway. It was a blast to drive. It was really difficult. But when you have a good result like this it feels very rewarding and a lot of fun. I’m really proud of the DXC team for a great effort this weekend. I think we showed that we’re back, so I’m excited.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Toronto–Post Race

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 1 HITACHI TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET – POLE WINNER
IT WAS DRY, IT WAS WET; THERE WERE A LOT OF DECISIONS TO MAKE DURING QUALIFYING
“I thought I steered us in the wrong direction for a moment. We went out a little later, which to me, I thought if we could keep the minimum amount of laps on the tires, the better. The risk is if it starts raining heavier during the session, then that’s the wrong choice because you need to be out there early getting a lap. But, fortunately it started drying up toward the end. In the middle I thought I made the wrong decision because it was raining more intensely. And then those last two laps, it just got progressively better and I knew that last lap was going to be the one to nail it. And, the car has been incredible this weekend. The Hitachi car has been fast. We haven’t had to do too much. We started a little bit slow but then found our rhythm this morning. The guys did a great job. The team has been working well together. We got all three of us (Team Penske drivers) in the ‘fast six’, so that’s all you can ask for, I think, on a day like today. And so now we go to tomorrow and focus on the race.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Toronto–Post Qualifying
